  • 1. There's no such thing has free hits.

    2. Forcing trades through gameplay mechanics is bad design and people shouldn't be asking for that.

  • The doomers have given up on other horror asymms killing DBD so now it's just any game that might be popular is going to kill DBD.

    Amazing.

I was asking if you could understand why learning a new Killer is unappealing. Sorry, should've been more clear.

Oh, in that case yeah I agree it can be a huge struggle to learn a new killer. As someone who has no aim and struggles in FPS games picking up Deathslinger was extremely painful and I spent most of my early games missing all my shots and feeling like I was no threat at all. So I def understand the struggles of learning a new killer but I don't view it as unfair just difficult.

I have a limited amount of time that I can play any games at all.

I already need to choose DBD over other games, which is becoming more and more rare. To top that off, I need to spend that time doing something that probably won't be very fun and will likely be frustrating.

Surely when it's broken down like that, you can see the issue.

    Not really.

Games can't change on a curve for an individuals time commitment. It's why competitive game communities heavily skew younger with people with less time commitments because they have more time to learn the game. This is generally pretty fair put more time in see better results, there's no way for devs to make things easier for people with less time nor should they really.

The best they can do is create a place to learn which granted DBD didn't for a long time but now you can just go into a custom game and put in bots to help you learn a killer until you feel comfortable to go into pubs. At which point you learn the killer and start doing alright or you lose until your MMR drops enough to give you balanced matches. It's about as fair as they could make it so besides that the only thing you could do is make a new account and have your MMR restart from scratch.

  • Nah tunneling has always been around and how strong it's been has varied but people have always done it. We also know what happens when you make tunneling weak and that's just as bad because survivors will absolutely abuse it.

The DS/Unbreakable meta was terrible to play with because of you tunneled you ate a 5 second stun, if you slugged they got up for free, and if you just left them alone they did gens and everyone had this so it created a scenario where if you were good enough 3/4 survivors were basically untouchable at the same time because you hooked them too rapidly. It was so bad that that actually did almost kill the game because nobody wanted to play killer because it was too frustrating I don't remember the exact numbers but it was something like 3 killers for every 100 survivors when you need 25 to maintain decent queue times. This is what lead to the giant perk and killer update right after Dredge released.

Has there been an overcorrection since then? Maybe but I don't think survivor is anywhere near as bad as killer was back then. But I don't think you could ever kill tunneling without making killer stupid strong or stupid weak. You can bring 5 second DS back and I think even that would do barely anything atp. At least for soloQ in SWF one good teammate with a flashlight legit makes tunneling a nightmare so at least there's that.

  • Most of the people complaining about it don't even understand how it works from what I've seen. So many people are acting like it triggers DMS on every gen like ??? no it doesn't? Especially if you're using pain res with it like Grim doesn't even factor into that that's just Pain Res/DMS that's been in the game for years. Adding Grim to the build gets you maybe one extra DMS trigger if that each time.

The rest of the gens being worked on are only going to be blocked for 12 seconds which is worse than Thrilling Tremors and I don't see people complaining about that perk at all.

I'm not even convinced it's the new best build rather than just a pretty decent alternative to Pop/Pain Res/Corrupt/BBQ. That alone should be proof the comparison to Eruption is ridiculous. During that time you ran Eruption/CoB because it was the best combo and it wasn't close. I don't feel I have to run Grim/DMS it's just a good option I have.

  • You shouldn't be winning when you don't know what you're doing otherwise there's no point in learning a killer.

Yes you will lose a lot that's just part of the process eventually you will start winning and it will have felt worth it.

I kinda hate this trend in gaming lately where everyone wants instant gratification and don't want to work for anything.

Genuine question, have killers ever had a combo everyone hasnt complained about?

It in the early days of DBD there was Sloppy/Nurses Calling and I don't think many people minded that?

But in the last few years? No I don't think so maybe Lethal/BBQ but calling that a combo is a stretch.

DMS is every hook, GE is guaranteed value on every gen in the game. It also takes a 4.4 killer less than 4 seconds to walk 16m, so, ironically, you're looking at roughly 26 seconds of blocking.

So this is exactly like Eruption in the sense that you're confusing a '26 second block' with a '26 second block on every gen in the game'. So 3 survivors getting kicked off of gens is about 78 seconds of slowdown on your first hook (26 x 3 survivors). So before the survivors even know it's in play, making this essentially guaranteed value.

You also have the same issue as Eruption that you aren't able to predict exactly when it's going to trigger, even if you had perfect comms.

And, as someone else put it in another thread, I can't stress this enough:

When your options are 'do nothing for a while' or 'do nothing for a while to avoid doing nothing for longer' then you have an awful game mechanic that should not exist. Which is exactly the lesson they didn't learn with Eruption and incapacitation.

That sure would be bad...if that's how that actually worked and you weren't making things up.

It's not a 26 second block on every gen in the game. It's a 12 second block on every gen and 26 seconds on every gen that was being worked on at the time of the grim trigger.

Also the combo is incredibly easy to play around, after the hook if it's the person's first hook just wait a few seconds after the hook and if no Grim trigger you're fine and if grim trigger just wait the 12 seconds and it's done and then no DMS trigger. It's not like Eruption because you could never know when a person was going to go down with Eruption. This it's very simply just wait 5 seconds after someone's first hook. You know exactly when it could happen and how long to wait, you had neither of that with Eruption.

  • When we're comparing a single perk that could save a minute plus on a single down to a perk combo that realistically stalls for a minute after THREE UNIQUE DOWNS I know complaints on here truly do not mean anything.

I personally don't think it's that crazy but am open to seeing more and reevaluating but when we're comparing it to the single most broken killer perk to ever exist we're just using hyperbole for the sake of it.

  • It's honestly not that bad, by the time you activate grim embrace a few seconds have already passed and then the perk takes up 12 seconds so in reality the gens are only blocked for 20 seconds and it can only happen 4 times but more realistically 2-3.

Comparing it to Eruption which easily bought an entire minute each time is a complete joke.

  • Been testing it out and it's not bad but nowhere near as strong as I thought it was going to be. Certainly not anything resembling old eruption. I'm curious if you also have to commit to the thrilling tremors or Deadlock as well to really see value.

  • So far it only happens with Nemesis and Dredge that I've seen. I'm kinda expecting the iron maiden Dredge skin to be huge now.

  • They're a bad concept is what they are. It's generally not a good idea to group up because it's shrinking the map for the killer, this is why many altruistic "bully" squads actually fail is because they can't actually go that far from each other so the killer only has to worry about a small section of the map.

Teamwork perks don't offer enough of a bonus for the benefit you're giving the killer especially the prevalence of legion it's a terrible idea to bring them.

  • Play for hatch, start opening those chests and hope you find a key.

  • The ones you'd expect but also surprisingly don't see that much Huntress. I know she's still popular and I'm assuming I'm somehow matrix dodging all of them. Nemmy is also pretty rare for me.

  • I remembered Alan Wake was coming soon and my thought was "the teasers for the next chapter can't come soon enough".

  • Well at least behavior is consistent. FtP and Buckle up is stupid combo and they're "watching it" and so is Grim and DMS and they're "watching it".

How about watching all the casual players leave your game because you're making it too frustrating to play on both sides.

Like unironically you're forcing longer games which people hate by making chases not end while making gens unable to be repaired so nobody is going to be able to do anything objectivewise the first few minutes of the game lmao.

  • Jurassic Park.

It actually doesn't have to be Jurassic Park I just want a prehistoric chapter. I feel like having a caveman/woman survivor would be good memes. They might struggle with cosmetics for that though.

  • I feel like SM is one of those few killers that despite people saying how boring the gameplay loop has begun are so trained on it they don't know how to use their brain to try and play differently when the situation calls for it. A few other killers like Hag and Twins also do this and are similarly hated which is pretty interesting.

As for SM themselves they're fine I actually think they're more boring on the killer side than survivor side cuz you don't have much to do other than deploy drones and be fast. Like you do need to use her kit effectively but I feel like you should always be able to do something cuz if they're playing normally they'll run into traps like lemmings and hinder themselves. If they're playing stealthy they'll still trip up eventually set off a drone and you'll know where to go like she has everything you could ever want in a killer power.

The only time you're ever really in trouble is against smart survivors which are rare. They'll disable your drones, stick to high wall loops, crouch against your drones in and out of chase and that can be a real nightmare to play against but again rarely ever happens.

  • As terrible as keys were there are some things I miss about them, mainly when keys were good plunder builds were actually viable. You could play like normal and if the match went badly start plundering and have a decent chance of finding a key and start looking for hatch, it truly felt like an alternative objective and it was fun.

What we have now but part of me still wonders if some middle ground isn't possible and hatch can spawn at two survivors closed and open at one survivor left. Although you'd probably have to get rid of blueprints in that scenario and they'd never do that.

  • Because regardless of what survivor players say they in fact do not want any secondary objectives. Everytime a hex has been meta it gets nerfed because survivors complain they don't have time to do bones and gens despite the fact there are multiple perks to help you find them.

  • Breakout/Sabotage, whenever I pick up on the fact they're running them I get relieved knowing the team is going to follow me around instead of actually doing gens.

Similarly backpack builds from killers stuff like starstruck/awakened awareness/agitation because it's not gen regression and they're easy to spot and play around.

  • The entity feeds off emotions mainly the negative ones, if survivors become more bored than scared it probably doesn't love that. It's the same reason that the entity doesn't love it when say Myers just instakills a survivor without hooking them, they die too fast for it to really feed off them.

I suppose the entity doesn't love longer trials but only when it still results in hooks that's probably why the entity shuts the trial down after 60 minutes, it holds them to feed and if it's not being fed it'll just scrap it and move on to the next so it can be fed sooner.

  • For survivor: Cassie Hack or Juliet Starling

For Killer: Elesh Norn or Pumpkinhead

  • With the healing nerfs you should probably be able to self-care with it again at 50% speed and it's fine.

  • It's a decent QoL buff. You can use it in a full hex build and it's decent but I feel like the meta is about to be about delay and not regression. Corrupt/Grim Embrace/DMS/Thrilling gonna be nasty.

  • imagine thinking the game was in a good spot when every survivor was running DH + DS when DS was 5 seconds and didn't go away when you worked on gens and DH was the biggest get out jail free card there was and you didn't even have to do all the gens you could just wait for someone to die and then get hatch with a gen left and get a 3 man out while meanwhile killer had things like iri huntress with purple belt for 3 instadowns and Spirit in general had little to no counterplay.

Those are some extremely rose tinted glasses.

  • I was so excited for a new boon but then I read it lol.

    CoH: Was self-care on a totem now it's empathy/botany on a totem

    Shadowstep: Distortion on a totem

    Exponential: Unbreakable on a totem

Dark Theory: Nerfed MfT on a totem (makes it sound so much better than it actually is lol)

Illumination: Visionary on a totem...wait what?

And don't get me started on the 2nd effect that doesn't matter cuz you can only have one boon and I think it only takes away 1.4 seconds lmao.

You can tell BHVR is so scared to put good effects on boons now. When you're actually worse than Dark Theory that's a scary place to be.

  • Nemesis was the the first and only time this game got to 100k concurrent players on steam I'd argue he's number 2 behind Myers in terms of impact.

Alien is a tier below it's a massive license for sure but let's be honest I don't think Alien means anything to zoomers so it simply came too late to have the impact it could have.

  • So I have no idea what Alan Wake is and in light of research of it and not seeing anything saying whether the survivor is original or licensed, it could very much be Alan Wake which sure I guess, not that interested in the character but maybe the perks will be good at least.

  • -Madcap: Whenever you scream it is replaced with laughter and you gain a 3% haste effect for 30 seconds.

-Boon: Survivalist: Press and hold the Active Ability button on a Dull or Hex Totem to bless it and create a Boon Totem.

Soft chimes ring out in a radius of 24 meters.

All Survivors benefit from the following effects when inside the Boon Totem's radius: After staying in the boons radius for a continuous 40 seconds replenish all charges of your item.

Increases item efficacy by 15% while in the radius.

-Bird Watching: Whenever a Crow is disturbed see the killer's aura for 5 seconds. The perk then goes on cooldown for 25 seconds.

  • I know it's just a teaser but that doesn't look terribly interesting. We have a flashlight, some slightly bloody papers and what I think is either handcuffs or a magnifying glass behind the flashlight so it seems like we're getting some sort of cop or detective character which like why? We already have 10,000 licensed ones lol.

  • I have never played even one second of Wesker.

On survivor I've never played Rebecca, Ada, Thalita or Renato. EDIT: I completely forgot about Nick I never played them either.

Yeah Project W is probably my least favorite chapter lol.

  • Singularity, Twins, Artist should be in the highest tier.

Singularity you basically have to micromanage pods and keep survivors burning through EMPs while still playing regular killer and you have to learn how to do this on every map which is different.

Twins is playing two killers at once and Victor can get hits from places nobody expects but it takes forever to learn them all.

Artist can down from anywhere in the map but you have to understand survivor movement and travel time it's extremely hard but feels great when you can pull it off.

Wesker, Nurse, Spirit, Wraith should be dropped.

Wesker should be in the same tier as Demo they're basically the same.

Nurse once you know how to predict movement every map is basically the same.

Spirit is more about having good hearing than skill I find her incredibly easy tbh.

Wraith should be bottom tier, body blocking is the most advanced thing he does and it's not hard to figure out.

I'm thinking about it and Myers should maybe go a tier up, they're not very complicated it's true but you do need to learn good stalking locations and how to manage each survivors stalk.

  • Hatch should just be replaced with an alternate objective when there's 2 survivors left so I'm not just walking around waiting for the slug to die. Like spawn a tunnel or something like a Demo portal the survivor has to find it work on or maybe a white glyph mechanic where you have to go find the key to the hatch and then find the hatch and open it.

  • The way in which Franklin's on Hag makes survivors lose their mind even if they escape is crazy.

  • I just want a native American survivor, I feel like native american characters are so few a far between and something BHVR should do in the future.

I don't think that's what we're getting but we should eventually.

    For Singularity

Demo, Xeno, Dredge are all the bloodborne soundtrack since they're all eldritch abominations.

  • The time of shadowborn has ended and the time of lightborn has begun.

  • He's already the 4th or 5th best killer in the game the idea of buffing him in any way is insane. If anything they need nerfs but it's fine if they don't.

  • Yeah the cheaters are really bad lately, I suppose they figure they can get away with it while BHVR is on Holiday and they're probably right.

My greatest fear for DBD isn't that it dies from lack of interest or balance like all the doomers keep saying but rather it becomes a Titanfall 2 situation and it just becomes an unplayable mess from constant hacking and DDoSers, we're not there yet but it feels like a very real possibility.

  • I think it was supposed to be but current gaming culture dictates everything must be competitive so it slowly went in that direction except comp DBD is a joke and not that many people are interested in it.

I have no idea what DBD is supposed to be at this point and I think the reason it's lasted so long despite that nobody can agree what it actually is it's a good game to stream that's almost more fun to watch than play and it's easy to keep a community around a game like that.

  • I feel like I don't even see it that much honestly because killers are too busy trying to run 4 slowdowns and/or NOED lol.

  • NOED, Ruin, Plaything, Pentimento are the only "good ones" then you have others like Undying and Haunted Ground which are only good if you're using other Hexes.

I wanna take a moment to talk about Ruin because no it wasn't a typo and no I don't mean Devour. Devour low key is kinda trash it'll win you a game and then do absolutely nothing the next 4 -5 games. Like don't expect moris with it at best it'll maybe be NOED you get a little bit earlier that gets cleansed the moment survivors know about it. It's really only free kills in low MMR where survivors don't know bone spawns yet.

So onto Ruin which people like to call a dead perk. It isn't a dead perk instead it's a supporting perk which is certainly a downgrade from being the best killer perks in the game but let's be honest the game was kinda obnoxious when it was the best. So ruin basically says for every 4 seconds you keep a survivor off a gen you're regressing the gen 1 second.

This by itself isn't impressive but keep in mind it can combo with other perks. If you bring something like Ruin/Haunted Grounds/Undying Pentimento you're keeping survivors off gens looking for bones allowing ruin to work and once you get Pentimento up the regression becomes more valuable because you're getting slower gens on top of they have to do that when the gen regresses they have to do it over again at the slower speed. Now I'm not going to sugar coat it it's not that impressive by the numbers, with Pentimento up with Ruin is means every 20 seconds you keep a gen from being worked on you get an additional second in addition to the 5 seconds that would usually buy you so 60 seconds goes from 15% regression goes to 18% regression. But keep in mind this is while the entire gen is slower and they have to go find bones and unhook and be in chase. In my experience it makes getting those first 2-3 gens done absolute pain for survivors.

Then we have that while Ruin can't be used with gen kick perks there are perks it does work with. Pain Res and Surge still work so maybe that 25% becomes 27% or the Surge gets you 10% instead of 8%. You also have perks like Deadlock and Merciless Storm that can kick survivors off a gen and if you go harass them the gen won't regress with the entity around it but once it goes away it's regressing and you didn't have to kick it and the survivor is no longer around working on it so then Deadlock will have bought you even more time.

So Ruin is not an amazing top tier perk but it's this support player in the background that's always working and making good perks just a little bit better and I do think it deserves a little more use than what it's seeing currently when it all the perks it synergizes with are already good, throw it in as a 4th perk and see if your games aren't a bit longer on average.

More like Pyramid Head is a baby Nurse, with the exception pyramid head says "HEY IM USING MY POWER!"

I could see it yeah if you're using double range. I've made topics about it before but it's crazy to me how rare PH is in relation to how strong they are but then again so are a lot of killers.

Even on Clown and Skull I'd still take STBFL. Rapid is only really good on Singu because he's the single best M1 killer at negating the on-hit boost which is Rapid's actual counter.

I'm not trying to suggest Rapid is better than STBFL just that it's very good in it's own way and there's more than just Singularity that can use it well. I will say Rapid probably has a higher floor than STBFL in terms of giving you results consistently but STBFL's ceiling is much higher. There's also some scenarios where the obsession is the weak link of the team which makes STBFL very annoying to use which is not a problem Rapid has but that only happens every 4th or 5th game or so.

  • You know Executioner can hit you through walls and objects right? If anything it's the other way around and PH is Xeno of steroids.

Maybe hot take but the STBFL + Rapid combo is extremely overrated. STBFL is still doing most of the heavy lifting and is by far the better perk (and is a little too strong).

Rapid Brutality is only good on Singularity and maybe Spirit.

Nah I've run a lot of Rapid Brutality and it's amazing on Singularity but also Skull Merchant since you have basekit bloodlust, Clown for obvious reasons and Slinger to get you in range of another shot more quickly. I did the math and it's roughly 3 stacks of STBFL you get right away and doesn't care about the obsession and actually gets better when used with STBFL because you get to use more of the haste.

It generally ranges to being very average to a bit disgusting on killers it fits well with. STBFL is the stronger perk overall for sure but I've run Rapid by itself and it does not feel bad by any means.

  • My guess is they might think it's a bit much with Rapid Brutality so it's gonna get hit from 8 stacks to 6 stacks. Alternatively they could keep it at 8 stacks and nerf the boost from 5% to 4% which would probably be overall worse so hopefully it's the first thing I mentioned. I'd be very sad if it was anything more dramatic than this.

1 … 6 7 8 9 10 … 38
