I can only speak as a survivor since that is what I play, but I have never understood when other survivors do this. Unless I am winning a cash prize that is contingent upon me escaping I'm gonna do my best to knock out those gens in that situation even though I know it's likely gonna get me killed. By the time you wait even a few extra minutes you could have already been killed, started another match and start earning points you can't earn by doing hiding and doing nothing.
Don't get me wrong. I want to win, and consider escaping to be a win, but it isn't worth doing nothing and getting rewarded with nothing.
-
For me the combination of Dark Sense and Poised is underrated. Every time a gen is completed anywhere on the map you not only get to see where the killer is, but you get 10 seconds to run without leaving a scratch mark to put as much distance between you as possible.
-
As a stealth gen jockey I love poised. It's insanely good when paired with dark sense. Pop a generator, see where the killer is located, and run 10 seconds in the other direction without leaving a scratch mark. Not just a quick getaway, but an unseen one that puts lots of distance between me and the killer.

There's nothing more you can do and making a post on the forums probably won't change anyone's mind. You're not wrong at all, but your attempt to change how people act is just like yelling into the void. Sorry bud.
I won't be holding my breath it will. Just a bit of a vent.

I agree. It's a particular pet peeve of mine too. I seriously think our culture is becoming people living in their own echo chambers. It' so counterproductive.

Did I claim it didn't? I said I don't care about the being reported. I never attempted to say it didn't bother me that this person acted like an arrogant jerk and then blocked me before I could respond. I expect someone that is brave enough to send me snarky messages to be brave enough to wait for a response. Yes. It bothers me because I don't like cowards that can dish it out but can't take it. I think there is are far too many people that want to be able to shout at everyone else, but prefer to wrap themselves up in a cocoon rather than hear what anyone else says.

Crows - first choice and not even close. Hate the noise.
Any and all aura reading perks - from both sides
Toolboxes - If I open a chest and get a toolbox I've wasted time. The time I save using that toolbox is pretty much negated by the time it took me to stop at the chest, rummage through the chest, and then pick up the toolbox. Every toolbox or toolbox add-on in my bloodwebs is a complete waste of a spot and bloodpoints. For the amount of bloodpoints there are items far more valuable than the benefits of anything toolbox related. I agree they were too strong before being nerfed, but if the current state of toolboxes is the answer I would vote they just get rid of them completely. They are a waste. Having them in the game now is just a joke.

On the one hand I love the idea because I would love to not see either Freddy or Ghostface for awhile. I see one of the 2 of them in nearly half of my matches. On the other hand I have to realize the fact I see them so much means if I banned them my lobby times would go through the roof because I would have eliminated 50% of the people that play killer.

As a survivor main there is really only one situation where NOED makes me angry.
If I have cleansed 3 or 4 totems myself and I'm the only survivor that ends up paying the price when NOED activates. It's super frustrating to know the other 3 survivors couldn't be bothered to do 1 or 2 totems combined yet they all escaped.

Trying a general response to most of the comments here:
10 seconds was definitely a guess. It was quick. Could have been more. Could have been less. Don't think it was as long as 30, but who knows. It was on PS4 so I wasn't looking at it as a cheating thing.
I was legit wondering if some noob had figured out a trick or gimmick hardly anyone else knew about, or maybe caught a glitch somehow that allowed him to have unlimited exposed for that particular match.
-
Since the day they introduced dedicated servers on PS4 I have had constant issues with lag, and even an occasional disconnect for no reason whatsoever. These are issues I never had before the dedicated servers, and ones I still don't have with anything other than DBD.
Regardless, as a survivor main I figure one of two things are gonna happen when hit detection gets relegated to the awful dedicated servers.
1) If I'm anywhere in the killers terror radius and the killer takes a swing I'm gonna take a hit
2) They better make a superman/supergirl cosmetic now because I'm gonna be invincible.
-
Love Nea's new gas mask. Can not describe my disdain for the rest of the outfit. I'm that way with most of the cosmetics. There are parts of outfits I like, and parts I don't. If they are going to force me to not only buy whole outfits, but also not give me the option to only use the parts I want they have seen the last of my spending on cosmetics.

I personally think the biggest reason you see so much tunneling and camping is because of the way BHVR set up the bloodpoints system for survivors.
It takes all of a second or two to unhook someone and you basically get close to the same amount of points as it takes to spend a much longer time cleansing a totem, or doing a generator. In other words BHVR has the points system for survivor set up in a way that encourages actively avoiding objectives. That means many survivors are more than willing to make tunneling and camping lucrative strategies for killers because the reward for doing so is worth it.
I've played matches where I did 3 generators from start to finish by myself, cleansed a couple of totems only to have a survivor that did literally nothing but unhook and heal get way more points than me. It's ridiculous that someone can not even attempt a single objective during a match and still end up with more points than someone that completed multiple objectives.
The TLDR synopsis: The bloodpoints system rewards both survivors and killers for games that consist of camping and tunneling. For that reason you will continue to see a lot of camping and tunneling.
-
While killers definitely get more points than survivors I won't attempt to say that's fair or unfair since I play as a survivor main. I don't have a basis for comparison. On the other hand I think the way survivor points are awarded is beyond ridiculous. Just finished a match a few minutes ago where in which I did 3 generators, 2 totems, healed one person, and opened an exit gate. The other 3 survivors basically took turns removing each other from hooks. They didn't finish 1 single generator between them. They might have done a totem. Who knows?
They all 3 scored more points than I did. These 3 contributed very little, if anything at all, towards the objectives yet all 3 scored more points than I did doing 3 generators and opening a gate. Survivors that are doing nothing other than taking turns getting hung should never be able to have more points than someone that completes multiple objectives.
-
Since escaping is technically the objective it is a win. I wouldn't say it's a win to brag about though.

They are looking to troll. Not to play the game.
How exactly is the camped survivor willingly making this an 'optimal' strat when most of them get 2 kills at best?
I'll say it again. Not everyone who face camps is looking to PLAY the game. They are looking to troll. You are giving your opinion on the ones who are probably new and don't know how to play optimally. Not the ones who KNOW this isn't how you're suppose to play the game but it's more important for them to troll.
"But asking for consequences in this situation is basically asking BHVR to punish killers because survivors play without any discernible strategy."
No. I am asking for the devs to have a hard look at how easy it is to camp and abuse this built in mechanic and adjust it as they did window vaulting.
Nobody said the camped survivor is willingly doing it. I have a feeling you know that though. I know there are some killers that do it to troll. However, utilizing the principle of occams razor what is the simplest answer? Is it that the majority of campers are doing it to be trolls, or that camping is a way to win quickly and easily with a lot of points.
I will let it go there though. Obviously we don't agree, and that's ok.

No one is arguing that it is a bad strat for a killer. Most people who facecamp aren't looking for "what is the most optimal way of playing the game?".
The problem lies in that, THAT camped survivor should also be able to play the game. Currently there aren't any built-in mechanics that either create a consequence for the killer camping excessively, nor that give the survivor camped options once on the hook. Not to mention in DBD those people hardly get points, let alone touch a gen if at all.
Just because 3 people can get out of a match where the filler face-camped shouldn't give a killer license to abuse a mechanic simply because they feel like it that day. In some cases it can be considered the right move, but that isn't what is being discussed here.
They are looking for exactly what is the most optimal way of playing the game. What is more optimal than being able to stand around and have the other side literally hand you an easy win?
I don't dispute that the camped survivor deserves a chance to play the game. However, the reason so many people are being camped and not able to play is because survivors willingly make camping an optimal strategy for a killer to get 3 or 4 kills almost every match. The consequence a killer needs to face for camping is that they don't get that optimal easy 3 or 4 kill match nearly every time they camp. The way to make that happen is for survivors to play smart.
I guarantee you if killers that camp started getting 1 kill per match, or occasionally 2 you would see a lot more survivors not be in that predicament because camping wouldn't happen nearly as often.
But asking for consequences in this situation is basically asking BHVR to punish killers because survivors play without any discernible strategy.
-
Two matches today involving camping:
1 - First survivor to get hooked gets camped. Kindred makes this obvious. Despite this 2 survivors run to unhook as fast as possible. The killer gets a free hit on the survivor that gets there first, plus he immediately hits the hooked survivor as soon as they are on the ground and hooks them again. He also camps again. If you found yourself thinking those other 2 survivors realized giving the killer free hits and hooks wasn't smart you would be wrong. They both immediately ran back to unhook again. This cycle repeats until all 3 of them are sacrificed. During that time I was able to complete 2 generators. That's it. No missed skill checks. The odds were pretty good at that point the killer was getting a 4k, and he did.
2 - First survivor to get hooked gets camped. Kindred makes this obvious. The other 3 survivors all work on generators. By the time the hooked survivor reached struggle phase 2 generators have been done and a 3rd is nearly done. One survivor swoops in and unhooks just before struggle phase starts. The survivor that unhooked was running borrowed time. Borrowed time meant the killer didn't get to immediately get a second take down and hook of the first survivor. Within moments the 3rd generator finishes. By the time the killer gets his second hook the 4th generator is done. While the killer is camping this time the 5th generator gets finished. The borrowed time survivor once again comes running in and unhooks. 3 survivors escaped. The 4th just barely missed escaping.
If someone camps as a killer and has lots of games like #1 what incentive do they have to do anything different? Survivors literally hand them easy wins. On the other hand if someone camps as a killer and has lots of games like #2 how long do you think it will take before they try a new strategy? Care to guess which type of games are way more common? If you guessed #1 you are correct. #2 is a rarity.
So..... coming from a survivor main..... I have a problem with camping, but it isn't with killers that camp. It's with survivors that don't realize camping would be a losing strategy if they would just play like they have a brain.
-
I consider DS to be nothing more than a perk to piss off a killer and be guaranteed to be tunneled after successfully using it. That's been my experience at least.
-
When a killer camps survivors have 2 choices:
1) Do gens. If 2 or 3 gens get popped while a killer is camping it becomes a much less productive use of their time.
2) Run up and unhook the survivor. If you do this you are willingly handing the killer at least another hit, if not another take down and hook.
If survivors would start doing #1 a lot of camping killers would either have to find a new strategy or they would end up having lots of bad games. There are enough survivors that do #2 though that camping is a viable strategy.
If you keep loaning your neighbor tools and he refuses to return them it may technically qualify as stealing, but at what point do you realize he couldn't keep stealing them if you didn't keep willingly handing them to him? Same thing applies here. Camping is only a winning strategy so long as survivors continue to literally place easy wins in the killer hands.

- Nurse - Can completely deny loops. Traverses maps real well.
- Spirit - Fast. Survivors can't see her during her power. People dc all the ######### time against her.
- Billy - Insane map pressure. One hit downs and quick pallet disposal.
- Freddy - Teleports/anti-loops/*stealth*
Bingo! You are absolutely correct. The lack of strategy most survivors exhibit is every killers best friend.
-
I hate Doc. He is my least favorite killer to go against. The reason for that is my strength is stealth and he pretty much negates it. Yes, I do realize I could run calm spirit. However, considering I don't play against doc all that much I just run perks that benefit me every other match and realize a match against doc is gonna suck.
-
@Kobeskillz said:
Wasting a perk slot on Calm Spirit. Which I hate.
i'm no expert or pro but i'm ok. I have lost the doctor during a chase before but then he uses his power to cheaply spot me again and another chase commence. The doctor is just not fun to play against. It's god awful.
I know this perk isn't considered top tier but if i can laugh at the doc player cause his cheap trick isn't giving him my location instead of being a smart killer then it's worth it.
Unfortunately escaping chances are low cause all day long during a match i just hear my teammates screaming and blowing up generators since not only does your location get revealed but skill checks are a pain. Especially on the Switch at a rough frame rate and skill checks that stutter have of the time.
I completely understand. My strength as a survivor is stealth. I don't mean just hiding. I'm still doing objectives and all the other stuff, but I'm good at not being seen by the killer. Doc makes my stealth useless. I could play Calm Spirit for those occasional matches where I face Doc, but I don't need it against others. I've just had to realize when I play against doc I will adapt as best as I can and I'm probably not going to have a great game.

Looks fantastic. Still hate it. I have been using map offerings every match just to avoid it.

I don't know if it was the new DLC or what but I kept getting matched with people that were completely useless or were just screwing the team over. I was SWF with my brother for a bit (I'm red and he's purple) and we kept getting on teams where they weren't working gens or helping with saves and would circle around us working on gens when being chased by the killer. It was wicked annoying. There were a few we left on hooks because we were able to get more done without them running the killer to every gen we tried to work on.
It has been the strangest thing since the new DLC yesterday. Previously I constantly saw people performing unsafe hook removals. Since the new DLC came out it's like no one wants to pull anyone else off the hook at all. I have been left on the hook to die several times in the last few days when the killer is on the other side of the map. I was slugged in a match while another survivor was hung and watched the remaining 2 never attempt to help either of us. It's like there has been some sort of weird shift.
Don't get me wrong. I would rather just die on the hook that to have someone perform an unsafe hook removal on me that just ends up in immediately being hooked again. It's just weird that the last 2 days it's like no one even tries to go for hook removals in the games I've played
-
I agree. I've saved up a bunch of map offerings that I'm gonna be using over the next week or two.

I will be playing map offerings every single match for the next week or so. I save them for this scenario exactly.

I haven't liked a single indoor map yet, and this one is definitely not an exception. Looks like I'll be playing offerings for other maps for a week or so.

How does it take you 6 months to get back to rank 9?
It's incredibly easy to pip at yellow, green, purple ranks. Plus the players at that level aren't very good.
For example I got reset to rank 17 as killer, I still got back to rank 1 in the same season.
Yeah, but how many matches would you have to play to do that?..... As I said, I was playing at most 3 or 4 hours per week. Some weeks it was less than that. Some weeks I didn't get to play at all. I was probably averaging 20 matches in a whole month. Seeing as there are 32 pips between 16 and 9 I would have had to average 1.6 pips per match to get from 16 to 9 in a months time. Considering I wasn't averaging 1.6 pips per match that didn't happen. I did pip most matches, but 20 matches in a month doesn't get you very far. I would actually drop 3 or 4 ranks in the very limited matches I played and then lose 3 or so to rank reset each month. That's a net gain of 1 rank per month.

That move pretty much cost everyone the game as the two survivors with me went down and they was on death hook.
There was no excuse for the “teammate” to bring him to us. He had a clear LOS on us so knew we was there.
The only time I’d consider it acceptable is when the survivor has been pretty much tunnelled all game, which then I’ll happily try to take the heat of him or bodyblock.
I can understand you running in to help someone out in that situation. Sill don't know if I would forgive them running the killer to someone else.

If you jump off the hook(with Deliverance) when i'm right there with borrowed time and willing to take a hit to stay injured for the next 60-90 seconds or run away to self heal when i'm willing to heal you, I will not get me off a gen to come get you on your 2nd hook.
I also do not look fondly on my fellow survivors who bait killers to down them again just to use ds. Getting unhooked just to run to the killer to down them just to use ds and get downed again within 30s wasted my time. You won't get a 2nd rescue.
I completely understand that. Although I usually go help those people again they don't deserve it.

I've had others run the killer onto me though very deliberately, multiple times in a single match and at that point I say screw it and I stick to their side like a bad penny. You want me to take the heat? Fine but you're coming with me.
As a killer though if someone tries to ditch me onto another I usually ignore it and keep chasing. I haven't got the time or patience to stop mid dash, turn 180 to face someone else, and restart the chase. Just no; I have zero hecks to give.
I mistakenly run people into killers sometimes too. It sucks, and I feel bad about it, That's why try I will give the benefit of the doubt when it happens to me and it's even close to incidental, but as you said, sometimes it is obviously deliberate.
-
A few months after I first started playing rank reset took me from rank 9 to 16. I didn't get to play very often back then. If I got to play 3 hours during the weekend it was a lot. It had taken me several months to get to 9. I would gain 3 or 4 ranks every month and lose 2 or 3 to rank reset. It was really frustrating. Took me almost 6 months to get back to a 9 after that. Never knew why I got pushed back so far on that one.

Sometimes the correct move is to complete the objectives first. Healing someone with sloppy butcher active is time a genny could be completed.
Then we can heal you up.
But survivors must keep the pressure on the killer as well. If you keep getting hit, running away, find someone to heal you, then heal. That is exactly what the killer wants.
Objectives first. I only heal when it is an emergency situation or when 3 survivors are together to make it go fast.
I've always been more of the mindset that the time it takes to heal someone is worth it because a survivor that can take two hits generally lasts much longer than a survivor that can be downed in one. Having said that I can't fault your way of looking at it. Of course there is still the part where the guy intentionally tried to run the killer to me.
-
I got up to get a drink while I was waiting on a match the other day. The doorbell rang and I ended up being a few minutes talking to my neighbor. Completely forgot I had been waiting on a match. Walked back a few minutes later to find there was one other survivor other than myself still alive I was standing near a gate and the final generator had just popped. I opened the gate, and we both escaped.
I actually got a message after the match from the killer telling me that was the best fake out he'd ever had in the game. I didn't tell him it wasn't intentional.

I completely agree. I believe everyone has the right to play as selfishly or as altruistically as they want to play. I'm just curious to see if someone that plays in such a selfish manner can come up with a cogent argument as to why they deserve to be helped when they attempt to throw the rest of their team under the bus.

I have done the same, and I give people the benefit of the doubt. This was no way this was inadvertent though. This person literally ran back to a corner where I was crouched behind a tree. One single small tree was not going to help him loop the killer. As a matter of fact there was a nice shack with doors and windows closer than my little tree.

Sometimes the killer will go for me when that happens but usually they end up sparring me and go for the bad teammate. As a killer main myself I always look for bad teammates.Sometimes I feel empathy for a solo survivor and let them escape. As a survivor sometimes I get bad teammates and the killer kills me anyway even when I wasn’t toxic.Other times the killer let’s me escape not often does it happen with me but it’s nice every now and then.I think some users get in over their heads and think every game should be I deserve my 4K and you don’t deserve to live.I’m perfectly ok if I die as a killer I’m also perfectly ok If I lose. Some people just need to realize that winning isn’t everything.
A lot of killers will go after the survivor that made the selfish move. I always respect that. That's what happened in this situation. I'm just curious to see if a survivor that actually does this wants to justify thinking that not only do they deserve to be helped in such a situation, but that they deserve to actually complain about it if they aren't helped.
