We're preparing some changes for auras as we speak. I can't give an ETA just yet, but we're hoping to have them in as soon as possible. The intent was never to significantly change the way auras appear.
Allow me to start by saying I am thrilled to hear that changes are being made and I really appreciate it. As I read this though it makes me scratch my head.
Seeing as the aura changes are mentioned in the patch notes they were obviously intentionally made. I get the part of the significant change to appearance may have been a byproduct and not the goal. However, there is no way it was not blatantly obvious to anyone even a little familiar with this game there was a significant change to appearance. I have talked to people that have a great deal of problem seeing the new auras as well as people that have no trouble whatsoever seeing the new auras. The one thing everyone of them agree on is auras significantly changed appearance.
I want to reiterate I am appreciative there is a fix coming. I'm really not trying to be snarky. It's just truly mind blowing to me. The new auras had to have been tested. I'm guessing they had to go through more than a couple stages of approval. It is simply unfathomable to me that no one along the way said "Making auras much smaller and a darker color might make it really hard for people with color vision issues, or even playing on smaller pc screens to see."

How does this have anything to do with this post though. The change in the auras has affected everyone regardless of what they play as, because they have changed for everyone, not only for the killers nor only for the survivors.
First, I was responding to a particular comment. It was a response to what they said.
Second, the fact that it affects everyone is exactly the point I was making. I was pointing out there are those that think every single change was meant to nerf their favorite side even when it's obviously not, just like with the aura changes.
Third, if you think my comment was irrelevant how is it any more relevant to take the time to question it and then turn around and make the exact same point I was making?

I've played quite some games right now, and while it's slightly less visible, I actually think its better for the game in general at this moment in time. I mean, Aura readings give a LOT of information that is essentially free in most cases, or incredibly cheap in other cases. The only aura readings I would consider "expensive" are the ones that require the exit gates to be opened, and even those arent really terrible perks. Right now, aura readings are actually something you need to focus on if you want to gather the information, rather than a leasurely mouse sweep over the screen to get all the information without actually doing anything.
Let alone that you can now see through aura's aswell. Meaning you can no longer use a generator to hide behind as a survivor to get OoO without being spotted, nor can you use a generator to cover yourself from BBQ anymore. Which has a massive impact on the game in general. They might want to brighten up the outlines a teeny tiny bit just to make it slightly easier to read aura's, but I am actually impressed with the current aura's. It takes about 4-5 games to get used to them as survivor and about 6-8 games to get used to them as killer. It has improved my overall killrates because I get more information. Encountered an OoO squad and I didnt have to sweat as much as I normally do, because they are very easy to spot if they try and hide behind gens.
All that is fine and good on one condition. You have to be able to see them. It's not about getting used to them if you have a form of color blindness that prevents you from seeing them in the first place.

@TotemsCleanser said:
Stop making it a survivors vs killers thing, I'm a survivor main and I can't see #########. I sometimes can't even spot where my teammates have been slugged or hooked, let alone totem auras with Detective's Hunch or a map.
I had been wondering all day about how this might have affected colorblind people because if I, not colorblind, have been struggling to see anything at all, the game must have become unplayable for them. I came to the forums specifically to find out it's true.
This hurts both survivors and killers. Get the us vs them nonsense outta here.
If they nerfed all killers to run at 50% speed there would be survivors claiming it was a nerf to them. If they made each generator take 10 minutes to complete there would be killers that would find some way to claim it was meant to hurt killers.

a change to auras only affects killers it seems....despite the fact that survivors have tons of aura reading perks, and the fact that pictures on this very forum show that survivors are struggling too.
The bias and conspiracy theories on here are insane
Isn't it hilarious? People can't seem to fathom that a change can be bad for both sides. Just because it's bad for one side doesn't mean it's automatically good for the other.
-
At one point I would have disagreed with you. After the aura changes today I gotta say I'm more inclined to think you are right. I simply can't understand how anyone that actually played with these aura changes actually thinking they were a good idea. The only thing that makes since is the people implementing these changes don't play the game enough to realize how ridiculous this change was.

Oh, a 3 for 3. I am assuming you are colorblind if it affects you so much. Honestly, I dont really see the issue. The aura's still light up in a way that is differential to the normal way. So I dont see how colorblindness really affects that, perhaps I havent been on a map yet where I could see that it could be an issue for certain colorblindnesses, but so far I dont see an alarming issue with it. And as I am writing this, you send me another reply to my older one, so I'll ask you to wait for me to reply to your comments first, and comment to everything as a whole, to keep the conversations down here tidy and easy to navigate.
It's ok. I'm not trying to argue with you. As for the colorblind part just read through this forum. Color blind people left and right are talking about how hard this is for them to see. There are even lots of people that aren't color blind saying this is hard for them to see. I'm nowhere close to alone in this new change making auras nearly impossible to see unless I am very close.

It kinda does tho. The old mechanic was old code and interferes with new code, creating bugs. There are a lot of bugs out of the game simply by replacing the mechanic and removing the old code.
Ofcourse the way it looks now isnt great, but it can always be improved upon.
I will grant that there is new code and there is old code. The thing is at some point both the new code and the old code existed at the same time. The new code was in some sort of testing phase while the old code was still being used for those of us playing the game. BHVR could have chosen to make the necessary improvements (bigger and brighter auras) to the new code while they were still separate. That way when they replaced the old code they weren't replacing it with something that made their game unplayable for lots of people.

I love this game, i really do, but the lagging constantly is frustrating, skillchecks are almost impossible to hit, and im running the killer and i have to press space bar 7 secs early to avoid the killer being able to hit me. I find it ridiculous everytime a new patch comes out theres like 3 or 4 bugs that comes with it and thats very frustrating. The devs shouldnt worry about the new killer or the next map that comes out. I honeslty could go a month without a new killer or a new map, I just want the lag to be fixed.
The new Aura System, ohhh boy, i literally thought i was going blind due to the fact that the killer aura was sooooooo small. With alert, object of obsession, bbq&chilli and other aura perks its almost impossible to see other players far away. I have to put a magnifying glass up to my screen in order to see. Its ridiculous to have to look so hard at the screen to find players and even the killer. Please change it back to normal.
There's other stuff wrong with the game but ima just leave this due to the fact that im lazy af and dont feel like writing anything more then this... Devs fix the game the game that YOU designed.
The other parts of the game that need to be fixed are what make this aura change thing even more infuriating. They've got a list of acknowledged problems. Rather than spend time fixing any of those they actually devoted time to changing auras, and broke them in the process.

this really is a pity and I feel very sorry for you, and trust me: I don't have any colour blindness whatsoever and still struggle a lot to see aura of far away generators. Totems? they are just invisible if you are not near them.
The fact anyone at BHVR thought this aura change was a good idea is a bit bewildering. The fact it actually made it completely through whatever process it has to go through to be put in the game is mind boggling.

The aura's needed an update tho, the old system was outdated and couldnt support much variety. While the new aura readings are a bit buggy and need some attention, they are mechanically better. Which is what matters most. I mean, people want a better game right? Better graphics too right? Then expect a lot of updates that will come with bugs because they arent viable with older code. Just bite through the bad weeks. Why do you think they showed the new graphics in the anniversary announcement, but didnt even bring it live to the PTB? Because the old code cannot handle it.
So lets all be patient, not ######### about bugs too much. Just show them game breaking bugs that are consistent enough to affect at least 1 game per day so they can create a temporary fix. And by the time they adressed all the old killers and replaced the old code with more future proof code, we'll be out of this neccesary bad place. I mean, its either a bad period with new content, or the exact same content for months. And I am fairly certain people want new characters each year.
And if you think the community could last without updates: We've had a period where there wasnt any really interesting update for a few months, and while the bugs then werent too impactful, the game got boring and a ton of people left.
As for the wait it out part..... I don't know. They've literally made it where I can not effectively play this game at the moment as I cannot see a critical aspect of it. If it's fixed fairly quickly maybe I come back. If it takes much longer they may lose a lot of people as it becomes easy to lose interest in something when you aren't doing it. Especially when you aren't doing it for a reason like this.

I'm all for new and better graphics. New and better does not require making auras significantly smaller and changing their color to something that is practically impossible for people that have any level of color blindness to see.

I wanna say this patch has been a major let down. BVHR why cant you do it right? Server improvements still arent here. Flashlights are aimed weird.
Take a look at this post for even more bugs.
Honestly the main reason I'm making this is because why is the game so buggy. You guys cant take a chapter off to improve the game's health?
You cant keep making these half ass patches. This game is buggy you just cant. You guys do all these ptbs but dont even make changes. For Billy you tweaked a couple numbers he still feels trash.
If they spend resources changing something best believe that change is staying its evident with billy nobody wanted the cool down we had many complaints and it's still here.
You guys need to start hiring people to actually test these patches and look at the code so we stop with this buggy mess. 3 weeks and we got this laughable patch.
I wanna mention lightborn this was an excellent opportunity to tweak flashlight addons and make oddbulb actual deserve ultra rare "blind through lightborn" or something similar.
This update also killed frame rate on console it's so bad cant even get good frames on maps other than the og three it's so disgusting. All the promises of console optimization but we are left in the dark. You got games like gears 5 sustaining a did 60 fps but dbd cant even run a consistent 40.
Do you guys only care about money because right now it seems like it. I'm gonna stop now I'm rambling.
You know what the real kicker is? They couldn't be bothered to fix all the bugs they already knew about, but they had time to create a brand new one. They gave us changes to the way auras look that not only weren't needed, but are now a new bug all on their own.
-
"the appearance of auras is noticeably different" - appearance was a bad choice of word there since they barely appear at all now.

When there are already complaints of a lack of colour-blind support, I do not understand why there are changes being made to make it even HARDER to distinguish colours.
I would really like to understand the justification behind this.
Absolutely no. Just no.
I have said this on other threads about this, but I will continue to say it because this has made me angry. There are plenty of areas in this game where fixes were needed. Areas people have complained about for a long time. Things even BHVR has acknowledged need to be worked on. Instead of getting any of those fixes we get something changed that no one was complaining about. They broke something that wasn't broken instead of trying to fix the things that need to be fixed. It's just staggeringly stupid.

u know whats funny? back then 2017 or so aura was broken as hell, it was really hard to see stuff. Then they made an update which helped a lot and you could finally see gens, hex totems etc much better. And now, they go back to the old useless aura system. I really dont get it
It's just so strange. They could have devoted time to doing something like fix hitboxes, grabs, or any of a multitude of known problems people complain about frequently. Instead they change something that:
- No one asked to be changed
- No one was complaining about
- Was not broken
And added yet another broken element to their game. Everyone that had any hand in approving this change should be ashamed of themselves.
-
@Jesya said:

I agree with you. I can't believe anyone thought this was a good idea in any shape, form, or fashion. It doubly annoys me to realize there are things in this game that are legitimately broken and need to be fixed. Instead of taking time to fix things that need to be fixed they actually devoted time to changing something that wasn't broken, and broke it in the process. This is beyond clueless for any gaming company.

I played a few rounds of billy and had BBQ and Nurses calling equipped. The new aura color (or whatever it is) makes these perks useless for me now. I had nearly ZERO VALUE because I couldnt see anything. Even gens were hard to see.
So after all the asking and begging for color blind support we get new auras which makes it not also hard for those who arent color blind?
Yes! I had seen occasional posts from people talking about certain things being too hard to see. I had NEVER seen a post from anyone ever complaining about the auras being too good. There are things in this game actually broken. Instead of taking the time to fix those things they took the time to change something that wasn't broken, no one was complaining about, and didn't need to be changed. The change was a huge slap in the face to those that were already having trouble with certain visual parts of this game anyway. It's truly one of the most stupid moves I have ever seen any game company make.

Oh God, I haven't seen how Kindred functions now, that was my bread and butter survivor perk before this. If it's as bad as you say, then yes, killer and survivor are both completely screwed for me. That is about as bad as I could have feared.
I can't say how it will be for you. For me, I look towards a hook with a survivor and I simply can't tell if I'm seeing the killer or not. Literally thought I was looking at the killers aura at one point earlier only to find I was wrong when the killer came up behind me.

Agreed, completely. It's been four years and there's no options to change the red of gens/scratchmarks/traps/hooked survivors/downed survivors. I can accept their reasoning on it being unfair to change blood, but these new auras just make it genuinely impossible to see things correctly. I was starting to burn out a little anyway, but with this...holy hell is it going to be impossible to play well. Which is a shame since I really wanted that premium track Wraith skin...oh well, I can live without it and the frustration the new auras cause.
I am a survivor main. I run a combination of dark sense and poised. Finish a gen, see where the killer is, and I've got 10 seconds to run in the opposite direction without a single scratch mark. I've got it down to a science. As of today that second part no longer exists. I suppose the aura still shows. I just can't see it. I can still run without leaving a scratch mark but I may be running directly towards the killer since I can no longer see them.
It isn't a matter of just that though. I now can't even get the basic information of seeing a downed survivor. I can barely see a survivor on a hook. Kindred is now useless to me. I can't begin to fathom how in the world a company doesn't bother to make an actual effort to check something like this out before implementing a change. It seriously feels like they just gave me the middle finger and told me to find something else to play.
-
It's game breaking for me. I have some color blindness. Was able to see auras before this without problem. Today I have played a few matches and can't see the majority of auras, and it's a struggle to see the ones I have seen. BHVR just broke their own game for me.
-
I posted this as a reply in a thread in general discussion, but wanted to post it here too:
Here's my question. Why did the update not include a disclaimer that said:
"If you have even the slightest bit of color blindness we here at BHVR hate you. We don't want you playing our game. We would rather you play anything else. For that reason we have decided to make auras almost completely indistinguishable to those with any degree of color blindness. We realize the ability to see an aura is a critical part of this game. But if you're color blind you don't deserve to play anyway."
Up until this point I had refrained from buying RE resistance because I was still having fun with this game. This is literally game breaking. I have played a few games since the update and have had an extremely hard time seeing auras at all. At times I've literally not been able to see them. I suppose I will check here on this forum ever so often to see if they have changed it back. Until then I want the devs, mods and everyone else associate with BHVR here to know 3 things.
1) I have loved this game for a long time. I have played through changes I loved and changes I hated. Through it all the game remained one of my favorite ever.
2) Today BHVR just broke the game for me. Not with some nerf or buff to a killer or survivor. But with a change that basically made a critical aspect of the game invisible to me. Thanks for all the fun I've had until now. I still wish the game and all it's player (at the least the ones that can actually see everything) continued fun and success.
3) While I really do wish you success I want to express my complete disappointment that no one at BHVR thought it would be a bad idea to change something that makes your game nearly impossible for those with any sort of color blindness.

Combine the fact I don't have perfect vision with the fact I do have some color blindness and this is game braking for me. The patch notes may as well have started with the phrase "If you have any sort of color blindness we don't want you playing our game. Find something else to play because we hate color blind people"
-
I would be for removing the hatch as long as there are changes made to the way gates are placed and/or operate. Exit gates are often close enough together that not only can a killer get between them in an extremely short amount of time, but they can many times stand between the gates and see both of them. Take a match I was in yesterday for example: 2 survivors left and we needed to get a gate open. They are extremely close together. Huntress standing between the 2. Considering opening the gate requires you to not be able to move for several seconds there was no way to open either gate. We tried running up and tapping the gates and backing off. Just didn't have time.
I'd be all for a system that does one of a few things:
- Make a minimum distance between gates that at least makes it a challenge for a killer to prevent you from opening a gate.
- Ensure when you have a killer like a huntress they can't stand between the two gates and just pick off anyone trying to open either gate with a hatchet
- Have the mechanism that opens the gate not be right there with the gate. Even add skill checks to it
- Make the process for opening a gate be something that doesn't require you to stand still for several seconds
Again. I'm not saying anything should be implemented that prevents a killer from being able to pressure both gates. I'm saying as things are now there are often times where zero effort is required to pressure both gates. If they can implement something that changes that I'm all for removing the hatch. Until then sometimes the hatch is the only real opportunity you have to escape due to gate placement.
Just for the record I also think there are still times that gates are too far apart for the killer to be able to apply adequate pressure. That doesn't happen as often as the ones where they are extremely close together, but both should change in my opinion.

9 times out of 10, unless my challenge is to kill X number of people i'll make it a game i don't just sit there the whole match kicking a gen, but i'll give chases, make it real but let people go and i get crapped on for doing it. but it's not one in a million, it's more than you realize that people will just take advantage of a situation. in the issue where i burned 10 bps' (all i had on the legion) normally people see that and see that i've only tried to deep wounds them they let it happen. one time i had all 4 at the exit gate just standing there, the moment i went into frenzy they left. just is a bit of a crap shoot on what kind of people you get in the game because some people are soooooo superior to you (sarcasm) that they will toy with you and not even help but this is why it's hard for some to be nice as killer because they get taken advantage of many times.
I'm sorry it's that way. People suck
-
As a survivor main I am going to give an opinion that a lot of other survivor mains won't like. But I totally agree with what you are saying.
Do I like being slugged? No. I don't like it whether it is at 5 gens or 1 gen. I hate it even more when my whole team is getting slugged. However, more often than not when a killer is slugging multiple survivors it is because they are practically asking the killer to do it. It's like they willingly offer him a gift and then get upset when he takes it. I definitely get upset in those situations. I'm just not upset with the killer for taking advantage of opportunities survivors foolishly lay at their feet.

I needed the locker grab one done, and basically downed a Jeff, stood near him hitting the locker. Picked him up, swiveled until he struggled off, hitting locker, he got in locker, I grabbed him and dropped him and let him get picked up as a thank you.
It happens.
I've done things like that plenty of times as a survivor main. Most of the time the killer will let you get away for helping them. It may be game on after that, but they show appreciation for the help at that moment.

@DrDeepwound that's been my experience as well. They typically catch on if I haven't messaged them directly. I feel bad for Freki. They seem to have the worst luck with this.
Yeah. That's one of those one in a million type of luck things. Until today the only time I've ever refused to help when asked is the situation I mentioned where I've only got time for one game and don't want to spend it farming. Even then I just back out of the lobby and let the killer find someone that will farm and I find a lobby where I get a non-farming match.

I've found that's a good way to gain good will from survivors who are a bit wary of trusting a killer asking for help.
Without a doubt. I don't even like farming, but I still would have been willing to help if it had been a request instead of a demand. I might have even just considered leaving the lobby had it not included an ultimatum

Here is what you are going to do;
1: You will cease posting comment replies on this thread anymore.
2: You will delete any comments currently posted on this thread, with the exception of this one.
3: You will upload any and all pictures of shirtless Myers you can find on the internet.
4: You shall then contact Peanits and inform him that this skin WILL be added into the game, or else.
5: You shall continue to do so until I say otherwise.
Should you for any reason NOT comply I will be forced to do nothing about it and simply move on to another whom shall be chosen in place of you.
I guess you will have to find another chosen one. For I do not deem myself worthy of the immense responsibility that would place on me.

This guy was an idiot. Most survivors are willing to help with a daily or just farm if you ask. When I needed to finish some Tome challenges I never had people refuse to help. Demanding is just begging for them to refuse.
As a side note did the killer burn any BP offerings?
Someone played one. All things considered I would assume it was the killer.
You're right. Most will help if asked. I don't like to farm, but I will in almost every instance if I am asked instead of told. If I sit down to play and I know I've only got time for one match at that point I may back out from a lobby if a killer wants to farm. The only reason at that point is if I only have time for one match I don't want it to be farming. But I at least give them the opportunity to find someone that has time to go along.

Mind posting their Ultimatum? I for one would like to read it. 😬
Killer here. I'm farming. You're all helping. Meet in the middle of the map. After I've hung each of you twice you can leave. If a gen pops before you've all been hung twice I will kill all of you.

When the killer gives an ultimatum for farming, I bounce, though it's usually on the loading screen for the match. I get it can be fun and good points, but increasingly this is what I'm running into and it has been making things not fun- not the game I sign in to play.
This is the only time I've had an ultimatum. If I was pressed for time I would have just left the lobby on this one. Since I had some time to kill though I thought it would be fun to see if he could keep that promise to kill us if we didn't comply

The amount of bloodpoints awarded for survivor actions provides an incentive to play selfishly and ignore objectives.

People put too much emphasis on individual pallets. I see a lot of people, especially killer main streamers, they constantly say "they wasted the pallet."
If they got away or didn't get hit, they didn't "waste" the pallet. That's the entire reason the pallets are there. Yes, that includes shack pallet.
Yes! I occasionally get a message after a match from another survivor about "wasting" a pallet. I always interpret it to mean "Don't you know I called dibs on that pallet for later in the match?"

Much love for doc! The only complaint I have from a survivor side is his tunnel potential. Being in a chase against him for any amount of time at T3 is a headache. I ran a doc for a minute a few matches ago and I had to just give up from all the doubles, static on screen, and unending chase music. Playing as him is great though, especially when you give him a map wide TR and short blast cooldown
I completely agree with you about the on screen static and chase music. As a stealthy survivor main doc is probably my least favorite to play against, but I always look at it as a challenge. Having said that if it was my choice the static would be gone and the music would either be gone or change. I suppose removing the static could be looked at as a nerf so I get if peoplel are opposed to it. However, changing that awful music would simply be a community service.

I think most people on both sides tend to overestimate their own abilities as well as their own play style. If someone doesn't play like they play or like they think they should they are a bad player.
If your personal style of play has you being chased by the killer more frequently than others so be it. But it is your choice to play that way. Criticizing the person that is knocking out objectives while you are being chased is nonsensical. Someone has to knock out the objectives or no one is escaping.
If your personal style of play is to be that stealthy survivor that is doing objectives while the killer chases others that's fine too. Again, it's your choice. If you are going to complain that the survivor who kept the killer busy in chases didn't help with gens is just as nonsensical. Those people being chased kept the killer off your back and allowed you to get the objectives done.
Differing styles of play are actually complimentary to each other. That's why I always find it so baffling when people presume their personal style of play to be the DBD moral high ground and condemn those that don't play like them. Telling other people they are not good players because they aren't good at the things you are good at is like the goalie on a hockey team telling his teammates they all suck as hockey players because they aren't good goalies.

The amount of abuse I’ve received lately from other survivors all because I haven’t acted in a way they expect me to during a game is ridiculous.
Not sure why everyone is so deeply invested in whether they survive a match or not, it’s meant to be fun!
I would agree games are meant to be fun. The reason some people take it way more seriously than others is because their personal criteria for a match to be fun is more stringent than others. Did they pip? Did they get a certain amount of bloodpoints? Did they escape? Did they get a 4k? There are lot of people that play this game (and any other) with a strict guide as to what they consider fun, and if it doesn't happen they aren't having fun.
I've got a friend that is a killer main. He has decided a fun game is a 12 hook 4k. If he doesn't get it he's upset. I won't play this game with him or even talk about it with him. He's stressed himself completely when it comes to this game because fun for him is just way too sweaty for my tastes.
-
It's all about the individual player and their reason for playing. This is not a game for anyone that wants a low stress experience. If you start playing this game because you are looking for a cartoony Mario type of horror experience this isn't it, and you are going to be disappointed. As a survivor main I can only speak to playing survivor so I will use that to form my examples.
- There are 134 perks in this game between the two sides that make things behave differently from game to game. Throw in items, add-ons, and killer abilities besides perks and you have a steep learning curve to play this game effectively. If you don't want to commit to understand how they all work, interact, and change things up it can be extremely frustrating. What you did last match may get a different result the next match. If you aren't willing to figure out why that is the case much of this game can make zero sense.
- Getting camped or tunneled isn't going to be something a person that is looking for a simple fun game is going to enjoy.
- Being slugged and left to crawl around is not part of a fun experience for someone that is just wants simple and easy.
- The people you are playing against are more than likely not in this for simple and easy. It gets sweaty. I mean we had a post on this forum just the other day where a killer was bothered at how hard they had to work to get a 4k every single match.
In other words if you enjoy a game that requires a lot of effort and strategy to play well DBD has got that going strong. If you want a game that doesn't require those things you aren't going to stick with this one. It simply isn't designed that way.

Only in dbd you dont get rewarded for doing the main objective. x)
You are so correct. This is the only game I have every played where the points system is far more rewarding for those that don't do objectives. You get close to the same amount of points for doing a generator, cleansing a totem, and unhooking. Only one of those is an objective and it takes considerably longer to do than either of the others.
-
The first thing I would say is just because someone plays both sides equally in no way means they have an unbiased opinion, or even a less biased opinion. 2 examples:
1) Someone plays both sides equally. They enjoy both sides, but they are naturally good at one side and naturally suck at the other. Their opinions will be biased based on their experience, and even their skill level.
2) Another person plays both sides equally. They hate one side and only play it because it helps them be better at the side they actually enjoy. Again, this person is going to have a biased opinion based on the fact they don't actually enjoy one side.
The bias in both situations may be completely unintentional. Neither person may realize their opinions are biased, but we all have biases in this no matter how hard we try not to have them.
Having said all that..... the first and foremost thing they are going to listen to is the business side of the whole thing. While I think they try to be fair with changes and such the bottom line is this is a business. The top 2 things for any business are:
- Attract new customers
- Retain current customers
Conversely anything that does the opposite of one or both those things is what they are going to hear regardless of who any of us think. They could implement the most fair change ever in this game, and if it caused a steep drop in the amount of people playing and/or being attracted to play that change is not going to last.
To be fair, that is how they have to do it. DBD is a product, and the way to make the most money of any product is to make it appeal to as many people as you possibly can.

I don't know if it is by intent or not, but the bloodpoint system for survivors is designed in such a way that it provides incentive to ignore objectives and to play selfishly.
One example is the one you just provided. If no one else is attempting to do the most important thing required to escape why should the survivor that is doing it be capped and penalized? A cap on total amount of points in a match is one thing, but penalizing someone for doing objectives is ridiculous. Why continue to do gens if you aren't going to get points for it anymore?
Another example is the amount of bloodpoints awarded for specific actions. I'll use unhooking, cleansing a totem, and repairing 1 gen as my illustrations. There isn't a lot of difference between the amount of points you get for each of these actions. However, it takes considerably longer to do a gen than a totem, and the amount of time it takes to unhook someone is nothing compared to doing a gen.
I do understand unhooking someone is generally more risky than working on a gen. But the fact you can get such a large amount of points for doing so in such a short amount of time provides a huge incentive to not only take that risk, but it provides incentive to do so in a selfish manner. An unsafe hook removal still nets you a quick easy 1000 bloodpoints. It may throw someone else under the bus, but BHVR has decided to provide that incentive.
As long as the bloodpoints system is going to reward survivors that ignore objectives and play selfishly there will be an abundance of survivors doing exactly those things.
