Based on your questions I am 1 towards Killer.
-
I remember a while back there were thoughts on an early game version of EGC before the gens get started, but that was so long ago, and haven't heard much since.
-
In terms of disgusting in a way that makes you just feel void and dark, The Bunny Game was something else. Made it feel like a part of me died with it. The Human Centipede also made me feel a bit off.
In terms of making me feel disgusting as in sick, I think it was a movie called High Society or something like that. Just one scene, but that orgy turns into something rather ... ugh.

I'm wondering if the amount of players is too much for the system to put people in a range fast enough and it's just taking a very long time to the point that it's getting the killer's mixed up due to sheer volume of players. It would explain why some killers are getting reversed. It could also be that the number of point ratings for the MMR aren't high enough to actually sort people fast enough and it's bumbling up the overall score of the player.
Seems it could be multiple things but what I personally believe is, it's of 2 options.
1. Just too many people, not enough MMR point value to actually place people quickly and we get repeats of the same new players due to that.
2. It's rating killers in reverse, by using a previous amount collected and instead of increasing it's MMR for that character, it probably took it away. Explains why new killers are getting harder players but good killers are getting new players.
Note: I could be wrong but these are just hypothetical to help the devs fix the MMR is indeed, there is an issue.
Certainly possible! It may give some sort of explanation as to why for some it's a massive improvement and to others a massive failure. There are other factors that could influence these thoughts (both in and out of the game such as a bad day at work; a great date; your favourite team wonning or losing) alongside simply having a good or bad session gaming.
Sadly, would this mean that even if MMR was perfect, it would not be seen by a sizeable portion of the player base as so. The reason we know for fact now is thanks to some posts by mods, but were they to say the opposite would people believe them? It will never be welcomed by all, but hopefully whatever people are doing behind the scenes will ultimately improve the game for those experiencing those problems.

I randomize my perks and add-ons every game. When I've had padded traps I've been lucky enough to down the person on time, but it can be annoying on an occassion when it is escaped from.
It's more a negative perk, like Wraith's "Beast" add-on, although even with that it's got some tactics. More a perk to make you feel good about yourself after a 4k!
-
One of the posters on this forum - @AVoiceOfReason - has a discussion about this seemingly affecting Killers lesser used than regular Killers. They mentioned something about MMR perhaps working in reverse.
Despite this, for me it has honestly worked better. However, this might be due to the fact I play as the same 2-3 Killers.
As the mods/devs have mentioned that something isn't working the way they want it to, it's made even more bizaar that some experience this new system better, whilst others say it is worse. Both sides' experiences are valid, but why does this occur? Why does the MMR work better for some and worse for others. Because it's evidently clear that's happening.
-
Apart from Shelter Woods and Rotten Fields (which I find very dull to play) I actually like all of them! Once I got used to the patterns, maps like Haddonfield or Midwich are actually really decent maps to play on!
It's nice to have maps which are varied and offer different challenges to play. I'd be bored to death if every map was very similar in structure.

Hey, we are aware that there are certain things that are not working as intended, we are giving this our full attention and will hopefully have more information shortly. I'm sorry that it currently is ruining people matches right now, but it's being looked into. It's all I can tell you right now.
Thank you for the update. Look forward to hearing more in future. :)

There have been yellow ranks outplaying red ranks that I've seen. There have been green ranks that have juked better than red ranks. The Emblem system has been already slated as a poor measurement, and therefore if it's a poor measurement, then the results it produces (pips/ranks) must also be poor by association.
There are great red ranks, but there are also great and greater purple, green and even yellow that I've come across.
A final point is that everyone balances around a certain skill level they achieve - sometimes exceeding; sometimes falling below that line. But everyone developes an area of skill that can increase or decrease through time.
I hear what you're saying, and if that's how you view things from your experience then that's fine. I can only comment from my experience, which is to say the new system is vastly superior in matchmaking (not without flaws, mind), and that my experience of ranks has in no way proven that ranks show who is a better player.
-
Looks like she lost a fight with a bramble bush.
-
It's not even in my top 10 of potential killers I'd want. It's a meh from me. I am also uncertain how a killer who's main ability is jump scares would work, especially as we already have killers (Hag; Myers) and perks (Tinkerer; Trails of Torment) which already supply plenty of that.

When you get a chance, can you play with your main then your least played?
Yup! My main (Trapper) had a balanced match against equally skilled survivors, or at least it was a fun yet tough match. 3K and the survivor escaped via Exit Gates. The last killed was done during EGC.
Tried Huntress after that and bearing in mind I have not played her more than once before, so my aim was shoddy and had no add-ons or offerings. 0k :(. However, one Nea was an excellent juker. 2 gens went quick at the start. I held them a while with 2 gens remaining and hooked 3 of them at least once. Nea remained unscathed, but they felt above my skillset. My only concern is that I also played poorly, and as another killer I would probably have done much better.
-
Sounds a great idea! Maybe even have a competition for a survivor creation contest and map creation contest, take the winner ideas for all three and put them in a Chapter together!
-
The Wraith had some tough battles. Nothing ridiculous, but certain more notable than my main.
May I also applaud @AVoiceOfReason for opening a discussion that constructively looks at possible MMR failings and offers an idea as to a possible solution, rather than gets upset and just complains. Hopefully the devs will look into this.
-
Most probably he'll be known as The Architect, and will have the power of building anything he likes to chase, trap and transport the survivors.
-
Pyramid Head, and the powers of Silent Hill in general, may be why the cages are unique to The Entity. He has a granted power, that I like to believe was modified with Silent Hill's Sun Goddess, which ended up becoming more powerful than The Entity suspected (bearing in mind The Entity already struggles with a few other killers such as Michael Myers and Rin Yamaoka).
In terms of the hooks, I'm guessing that it's a method of "digestion", but whatever the reason, there must be something about them. Maybe it's the psychological and physical pain that a hook causes, heightening the emotions that The Entity feeds on so the "meal" is more nutritious for it.
-
Congratulations! May your Bachelors in Journalism be a fulfilling journey. :)
-
I would definitely be Giles from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. My humour is as dry and quick as his; I have an awkward English character similar to him; and I also have unassumed actions, history and characteristics people would not normally associate me with. I also love tea (obviously!).
-
It sounds an interesting concept, but the idea of celebrating a real murderer by including it in a game might be seen as distasteful.
If you're looking for a more fictional murderer during that time period, you could go for Spring-heeled Jack - a fanged, high-pouncing murderer.
-
I admit that I cannot recall any trophies I've earned, but having trophies is a great way to get the most out of a game, once it has been completed. It improves skills in all areas and gives a sense of accomplishment!
So they're good for personal use definitely. I don't feel intimidated or envious if people gloat (I don't mean by responding to your question, obviously! I mean waving it around when nobody asked at all). As an item to boast with, it's not that impressive.

I think I'm in Lust with you 🥴❤
If you're refering to the Lustful Lips monster in Silent Hill 2 (or Flesh Lips), please could you kindly refrain from chocking me to death with your feet before dragging me up to the ceiling. I imagine that hurts :p

If I could take one map from each game and put them in the game, here's my thoughts:
Silent Hill: Nowhere - an actual region compromising of tangled segments of every previous region. It could be disorientating, but also add a nightmarish element.
Silent Hill 2: Lakeview Hotel - the dramatic endpiece has a lot of climatic areas, and an oddly nostalgic image that makes it feel like walking through a dream.
Silent Hill 3: Church - Dark, distressing and apocalyptic in looks, this disturbing, twisted building has many areas to chase and be chased.
Silent Hill The Room: Water Prison - A multifloored Hell of concrete, cells and torture rooms. A circulation room at the top can rotate the levels.
Silent Hill Origins: Greenfield Apartments - Spacious, with both outdoor and indoor areas to explore. Especially unsettling secret tunnels and spyholes abound.
Silent Hill Homecoming: Shepherd House - This could be a mainly outdoor map, with the foggy streets. However, the house could be a centre-piece like the school at Badham, especially with the Hellish interior.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories: Cauldecotte Woods - An icy, outdoor park area with a large lake, rangers hut and a few out-houses. If Friday 13th never made it, this would be a good substitute map for Friday 13th's camp area.
Silent Hill Downpour: Devil's Pit - A unique map, being it a map that is designed like an outdoor map, and yet actually be an indoor map! A couple of buildings, rock formations, caverns and even minecart tracks.
-
The Exit Gate sounds good, although 200% seems too high. It can be slower than that, so there's still a tactic to manage the doors, but makes it a little less safe. However, if as a Killer you see a 99% door, just hit it to open. Gives you bloodpoints and takes from then. Also you can get Blood Warden to be a bit more useful that way.
What would be better would be a way of changing the start of the trial. Maybe have a switch somewhere that needs to be flicked by survivors to make the gens ready for working on. Like the exit gates, but much quicker to charge up.
I'd just want it scarier and some more tasks or variations in game to do that both offer diversity, and yet ties in as a viable objective to escaping.
-
Freddy is also human sized, and yet that still makes most killers bigger, possibly for that intimidation factor.
Whilst I wouldn't shrink existing Killers, I certainly like the idea of having more "human-sized" killers. I'd also find cool (albeit maybe not possible) of having even taller killers - ones which crouch down to get through doorways.
I wouldn't want smaller Killers though. Having a Chucky or Gremlin running about would just be too comical in my eyes.

Granny's Garden.. that witch looks so familiar to me, i think i might have either played that before myself or at the ever least watched someone play it.
Knowing that witch, you may have blocked it from memory to avoid trauma :D. That weird part where you had to find the magic tree with no guidance or clues, etc. It's basically fuel for a Creepypasta or SCP!

> Looking at the results (since ranks are obsolete) it seems you have a fair balance between wins, losses and close calls.
Even if ranks are are "obsolete", it does not mean they are meaningless. Survivor needs to do stuff to get pip, not only doing gens, but also win
chases, rescue other players and so on. When I see red rank, I expect at least more than 600 hours of playing the game. Ranks are still saying how experienced the player is.
So when I am being matches with red ranks -- there is, usually, no fair balance. I lose. Or I have to tunnel and lose. Overall, yes it is like 50/50 (miked ranks / red ranks), but today I've got a streak of red ranks in matchmaking. Yesterday -- a lot of new players.
> Are you able to give more detailed info on how it was during those matches? Besides the cheater where you dc'd, did you throw any matches? Did you notice any consistent ways of playing in terms of experience?
Yesterday I was able to do some fun stuff with perks and strategy, like using Tinkerer with its full power. Do some mind games.
Today's experience is more like playing vs like experienced players, some of them just troll you, knows perfect vault timing and can chase you over entire map. This is something close I had with "OldMatchmaking". Oh yes, those players are usually "obsolete: Red Ranks. Not super cool. If I switch killer, I'd probably get some more relaxed games, but I am planning to stick with Bubba to see to where it brings me.
No, I usually do not throw any matches except someone is hacking or when I did not notice "Object" on Midwich.
> There may be a lot of new guys, but there could also be a lot of experienced players creating new profiles to gain an edge.
> That is perhaps the only thing the ranking system has any use for now.
Yeah, I've a separate account to practice and learn some techniques in "Kill your friends" mode, so I can practice and learn some things without bothering my friends. And of course, I wanted to see how easy it would be to go against rank 20 killers/survs. I ranked up to my "real" rank (8 - 7) quite fast (like in 4 days) on a new account.
If people want to spend their money and buy the game -- I am okay with that. They cannot transfer BP or cosmetic in to their main account anyways.
There is no any big reason to do so.
Firstly, thank you for your very detailed reply. I hear what you say about ranks not being "meaningless", and I do agree that pipping up requires practice. Yet the Emblem system has already been heavily criticised for its purpose, and pipping is as much dependant on many factors other than skill (e.g.: skill of other players; a bad session; luck; limitations; etc.).
From experience, the rank system was not a reliable indicator of skill, and therefore the amount of hours put in doesn't mean that player will be better than others. People get to a skill cap in areas with limited outcomes, and tend to wobble around that mean line of skill. However, newer people would show faster, more tangible signs of improvement. That's why having 9,000 hours doesn't mean you'll always be better than someone with 50 hours every match. Too many variables in a game with a smaller, finite number of outcomes. It's not a reasonable expectation.
My experience of ranking was poor. Those with supposed "red rank" abilities were often far worse than green ranks. The ranking system back then also still meant I could face someone of identical rank in purple or red who had way more/less skill than I. On the other hand, there would be very close games between largely different ranks. Sometimes, it added up. Sometimes it didn't. Ultimately, ranking was little more than a bragging right. So yes, I stand by the fact that ranking was a) a false indicator of skill and b) obsolete.
Yet, there is one final factor: Platform. Perhaps the system works differently on separate consoles/PC/mobile systems, so my experience would also vary from yours. Nurse is a perfect example of that - very difficult on console, but reported easier on PC. Could that be a reason why both your and my experiences differ drastically?
-
I remwmber being a little kid when dad got me into video games. The first one I ever became that involved with was this actually (for its time) indepth football simulator "Football Manager"
But my forst ever foray into horror was because of this goddamn witch from a game I think was called "Granny's Garden" The game was probably made by people on very questionable herbs, but once you failed a game (even if you weren't aware) this creep arrived on screen, accompanied by the loudest, oddest music I'd come across back then!
Her eye moved weirdly, and I feel like she was the first ever "jump scare" in video games.
-
Repressed Alliance.
The heat brings flies and other pests in whilst I am cooking, and I spend half my time trying to keep them away from both my food amd the cat food! I'd love The Entity to protected my cooking whilst I'm preoccupied; not having to worry about flies getting on my produce!
Added to that, if I could have a Killer perk too, Unreleting sounds pretty good right now with mt electro bat!
-

Glad you having good time, however, I didnt even see any yellow or purple. Last night, for hours upon hours I was the only red rank in games full of rank 15-rank 20 and it was terrible. Hoping its better tonight. The game is matching up people like me with 1000s of hours with people with less than 50 hours. There is never going to be a reason to pair people with 9000+ hours with people who have 42, 42 hours.... 42.. ??
That is broken.
So, is that to do with the platform you're on? I'm on Xbox, and I'm guessing by the details you gave me, you are on PC?
Is it plausable that those 47 hour profiles were newly-made profiles by experienced players who go on a crushing spree, or maybe new people who had some successful matches, resulting in their MMR score being too high, hence throwing them in with you?
Also, what was their skills actually like? I ask that because before I started this game I had watched quite a few videos and having learned certain skills and experimenting, I was beating some purple ranks with less than 24 hours. Either that was me being a fast learner, or the purple ranks played trash. So sometimes time doesn't make someone better or worse. Even those Youtubers who play this for a living make heavy mistakes.
You also do bring in a decent point with MMR and early ranks: Should MMR have some ability to match those who have fewer hours with each other? If it doesn't, ought it take this into account?
-
MMR has vastly improved my experience. It also helps further an earlier point that the ranking system was not a good measure of talent. There are yellow rankers far better than some purple or red rankers, amd this is starting to show now.
Personally, BHVR have made a genuinely good improvement to the game.
-
With th exception of HybridPanda videos and Ohmwrecker I don't watch DBD videos. The experience of playing is much better, and I can have my own viewbof mini stories that evolve within each trial.
I've heard of other streamers such as Otzdava who are also chilled and enjoyable to watch on the couple of videos I've seen, but I don't get a sense of storytelling from them (from what I've seen his videos appeal more to those who want a greater understanding of the ways to play and tactics). Plus, some others I watched just grated on me too much.
-
MMR appears absolutely fine to me. The killers and survivors are the same skillset as me, matches are more challenging and yet fair, the results are balanced and whether I escape, 4k, die early or whatever I feel it's justifiably fair.
Possible reasons it may not be accurate in some cases could be due to newer players, the quality those others have been up against, those who mess about on purpose, those who are not as good as they think they are, etc.
However, my experience has been vastly positive, and as it calculates further matches should become more on the skill level.
-
I've genuinely wondered about how time space works in the realm, and what survivors might be like if they caved in to killing. Here's a rough idea for Dwight Fairfield:
Killer: The Disappeared
Weapon: A blackened, single-handed sword that materialises out of the fog when swung, and dissipates afterwards.
Power: A stealth ability that turns Dwight into a greyish mist for a short period. Works like a time-limited Wraith power, with the downside of short usage, but upside of being able to pass through solid objects.
Perks:
Unbonded: A successful hit severally reduces any aura-reading ability, including regular hooks. Does not cancel out the ability alltogether, and a survivor becoming hooked causes the "failed skill check" explosion that can be seen by survivors, so the hook isn't completely visible, thereby rendering the perk not so overpowered.
Better Alone: Survivors have a minor increase in solo gen speed, but drastically reduced efficiency when working with other survivors on gens
You're Not Here: An obsession gains a minor speed boost to any action other than gens, but if within a survivor falls within a certain radius of the obsession, their actions can be heavily slowed, with exception to gens.
These are rough, on-the-spot ideas, but likewise alternative forms of survivors could be a lot of fun!
-
Kate Denson, because she seems like the ultimate Entity challenge. She's depicted as full of hope and grit, and even the song is thought to be from her (albeit under Entity influence).
Basically, she has the most The Entity can feed on, yet at the same time she's the one most determined and likely to last longest and escape.
An honorable second would go to Cheryl, as she actually already has some control over The Entity, and having survived beating a "God" in Silent Hill, I wouldn't be surprised if she became stronger and more of a match, especially if she met someone like the observer.
-
The codes are purely random, I'm affraid. No clue within them, with the exception to "England"
However, were there to be one in some fictional parallel universe, my money is on Alien because of the following (extremely tedious) quote:
Private Frost: It's as hot as Hell in here.
Private Hudson: Yeah man ((Yemen)), but it's a dry heat.
I'll see myself out.

Fallout is a game that I've wanted to try for a while, although have never touched. Definitely need to try it soon.
I've never played SH and I doubt I ever will to be honest.
As for Rimworld, I've never heard of it, although it must be great if you've played it that much.
Rimworld's replayability is helped a lot by the 1,000s of mods, and the complete randomness of events (dependant on which "storyteller" you choose). Most of all, it's the stories which happen; the characters that stand out. It's one of the most indepth colony sims I've ever played. So good!

• The Click: To me, the standout YouTuber of Reddit and more.
• IGP: Some very decent snapshot videos of games, with a great way of bringing the viewer to "live" in these gaming worlds. His videos with IcyCaress are also fun.
• Ohmwrecker: He does play DBD, but he plays a number of other games. His positive commentary really needs to be spread.
• GrayStillPlays: Basically, a cross between a father, a mad scientist and outright sadist of video games.
• Gab Smolders: The Queen of the Survival Horror walkthroughs.

I guess the MMR works better the more the game is played by that individual, as more trials gives a greater accuracy to that person's particular skillset. So it could be that you're facing people at an early stage, where they maybe trashed earlier opponents.
We're not sure how the numbers work in terms of MMR. I can only speak from my own experience that the MMR has been a much, much needed improvement on the previous system, and I've been very happy with it.
It would be good to see how the MMR calculates, so as to get a better understanding. However, I also believe there are people who would exploit the system, once they understand how. This would then throw matchmaking under another bus. If that's the case I empathise with the developers.
In the meantime, just smash out some easy victories and see whether the quality improves or not.

It's more about being creative than skill, but it's certainly not a game which requires zero skill. Techniques need to be learnt, and there are constant changes in play required, depending on the Killer and how skilled the player is.
Basically, if it requires no skill, there would not be the disparity between skill levels of playersbto such a degree as witnessed.
-
They're harder to spot, almost so that if a survivor is down it's very easy to overlook and not know where. This could be problematic for people who have issues with various sight ailments.
When using Bond or Empathy, I find them easy to spot, as before.
They need some adjustments to make them clearer when red in colour. Whether this change is a precursor for the graphical updates or not I'm uncertain. Maybe they'll suit better once other changes have gone through. However, currently they don't work as well.
