  • Camping is a part of the game (even if it is boring as heck). If a killer likes to play the game by not doing anything for the duration, well that's their perrogative.

However, I would like to see killers just getting stuck in, hooking people then doing chases, gens or even just getting their bearings on a new map. Those will be the good players of the future. The others will probably jist resign themselves to the plethora of idle mobile games about, as it'll suit their style more.

  • I've done it a few times if there's one survivor left. I'm trying to get their attention if I've found the hatch and am intending on letting them go, or if we're near the gates and I can see them I'm letting them know they can open the gates and get out.

If I intend on having the survivor dead, I don't play those games. Close hatch, locate survivor, kill and move to the next match.

  • Picking just one, it would be my favourite movie of all time: Jacob's Ladder.

    Other honourable mentions go to:

    Alien

    The Exorcist

    Orphan

    It Follows

    The Mist

    The Birds

    The Thing

    Night Of The Demon

  • He's a tough killer with a lot of devastating tools to hand, but not without counterplay.

It is possible to deal with his ranged attack by just listening to him slamming the Great Knife into the ground. If you do not see or hear that, treat as a normal killer.

Bluffing vaults works with nearly all killers, but moreso with him. He has a high-reward for catching vaulters, but the cool down is high-risk.

Crouching over Rites of Judgement avoids that. Yes, if he's near it's better to take the rite, but remember if he puts you in the cage, you're miles away from him, and if survivors are there, it's a quick unhook with no risk.

Ultimately, he's meant to be difficult, and the recent slew of killers are becoming more adept at punishing survivors more. However, it's to add different types of play and counter-play to make the game less dull. And each killer has weaknesses. Spend time learning them, and you'll find the counterplay.

  • Having played this for a few days under the new MMR, it is VASTLY improved on what it was before! Victories feel satisfying and earnt; losses feel fine, as they appear to be well-balanced; team mates are generally much more adept, and games are just so much more fun!

This MMR has really been a game-changer for me. There was an absolutely epic 30-40 minutes round against a Hillbilly; a devastating Demogorgon (been wanting to face one of those for ages!); and a 4-man escape from Pyramid Head, which was only down to 4 solos working their butts off, as Pyramid hung everyone at least once, and I think I was the only one to be hung once.

It's just so much more fun! So a big thank you to the devs. :)

I had never taken that into consideration, I had always believed hatch was created by one of the survivors, but it is completely possible it was made by an outside source. The thing I'm curious about is if we'll ever get to know the name of the Entity, because no matter what it is, demon, cosmic being, eldritch truth, great one, ancient, it has a name. And knowing its name could be one step closer to killing the creature.

And I am genuinely curious for what they have planned because they have 10 slots for tomes so they are planning to take his for awhile, I just hope they answer a few key points down the line, like Vigo, Benedict, the Observer and more about the Entity in general.

I was under the impression that Vigo created the hatch, once he found out how to utilise the auric cells the world was made of. However, the gens and gates could hold on to the idea of another creature asserting itself. Is this other "thing" something of a protector?

    another question:

Why are there no survivor in the 'current' roster from before the 1950s?

That's an odd one. Also, especially since The Entity chose to create generators for the survivors, it could go further back, but even then there would be a point when survivors may not know how to use it. Why The Entity chooses light - a source that weakens it - as part of the game.

There are so many questions, should we explore deep enough!

  • @MeltingPenguins said:

If we do assume for a moment the order Killers 'appear' is chronological for the Entity's realm. Which means it only recently brought in the killers and arenas it has trouble controlling.

I think the only trouble with this idea of killers becoming harder to control chronologically in Michael Myers. He came in early on in the game's life and he kills regardless of The Entity's will. I also believe there's a Huntress perk that blocks out the red hue where she looks, hence "blinding" The Entity.

This Entity is a powerful being, but in no way is this creature currently a godlike thing. It's almost as if it's in an infantile stage, maturing as it envelopes more killers and survivors. However, as with any living thing, it makes mistakes. It struggles. I'd say, despite its strength, it's actually a weak organism in comparison to what it could be.

So, drifting off-topic slightly, if this is a youngster, where is/are its parent/parents?

This all leads to another question:

if we do assume that killers can interact after trials, how would the entity get around anyone (legion e.g.) who sees the actual survivors spilling the beans?

I suppose a quick answer to that would be each killer is being dealt with in different ways. Those who are tortured would fear being tortured more for saying anything. Those who just enjoy it such as Legion or Jed Olsen wouldn't want to spoil their cushy role. Adiris sees The Entity as a God, so fear would work with her and Leatherface.

Even those who are so powerful they can break The Entities rules such as Michael or Pyramid Head probably don't speak anyway! Michael just kills, and Pyramid Head's ties to Silent Hill probably means it could leave any time it wants to.

I just feel that having the killers able to converse is a troublesome situation regardless. However, if this is indeed a thing The Entity I'd imagine uses multiple tactics tailored for each Killer.

  • If The Entity feeds off any emotion, it perhaps has the ability to know what tactic will draw the most emotion out of the killers. With Philip, Max, Rin and Caleb, the powerful emotions they feel at the injustices they've been witness to has a greater strength than if they were to be tortured. Maybe The Entity realises this through experimenting with different ways for different killers!

  • Make sure you're always doing something productive. Gens, totems, healing, distracting, chests, being chased - as a survivor keep busy. If you just stay hidden doing nothing, it's only a matter of time for the killer to end an otherwise dull game.

As survivor, also remember running everywhere is not a good tactic unless you're sure the killer is nowhere to be seen. Walking to keep yourself safe, so long as you're heading or looking for an objective, is clever play.

As killer, do not get distracted by the clicky-clicky or teabagging brigade. Ignore them and go for another. 2 reasons: 1) Those may be the best players. Find a weaker one and hook them - use the weaker player as bait to get the stronger ones. 2) Ignoring them can annoy them. Annoyed people let the emotions get the better of their skill. Emotions = mistakes.

    Hope those help!

  • Now I know my way around it, I fully appreciate it. Whilst it's not my favourite map, it adds a new style and once you know the layout there are so many more plays and options available from both sides.

Also, it's a unique and probably the only one I see as true to the survival horror genre.

Basically, I wouldn't want it gone. It's a great map for those who put the time into actually exploring it and being creative. It's also diversity in the map types. However, I'd also like maps of other areas. Can fully understand if that's not the case though.

  • Just a thought: MMR may or may not work. Who knows! However, when some people - after having played it a bit - start saying it won't work, is that because of the MMR, or is it because of the player not being as good / being much better than they thought they were? How much of the thoughts on MMR are based on individual perceptions of their own ability?

Does that mean that, even if MMR becomes the perfect system, people will disagree with it because of their lack of knowledge in their own abilities? Just interested to know how that would factor in.

I would have to agree if Evil Within was getting a chapter I would VASTLY be in favor of getting The Keeper, dunno about the idea you suggested specifically, but he would be a cool and imposing killer to see in the game.

I admit my idea feels a bit "meh" because what he would bring into the game has already been brought in in terms of traps and teleportation. He'd need something more stand out.

  • Turning the game into a Sandbox game, away from the main objectives, can become rather fun when needing to take a break from the more competitive rounds. Here's a couple of examples of what I mean:

    1. Not In My House!

If you get a place like Mother's Dwelling, set up shop in the house and defend it from survivors. Any who break in knock down, then either put them on a hook outside, or pick the body up and dump it outside. No entry without a permit!

    2. Pub Lock-in

The opposite to above. Drag all survivors into a house whenever possible. Also, keep banging your head as you do so. Get into the spirit! Not literally. Thay has dire consequences for survivors.

    3. The Slave Driver

Basically work with them, but if they do something like miss a skill check or mess about, hit them. Get them to do their God-damn job!

There are other ways of making it light-hearted, but sometimes playing a silly or meme round does take away the stress. And if the survivors notice it too, you'll probably have a lot of fun!

  • Survivor: Deja Vu. That perk has helped games play out strategically and more often than not it's impacted heavily on the Killer. Special mention also goes to Lightweight for it's ability to get away and hide quickly. Combine that with Lithe and Quick & Quiet, and you have a killer combo!

Killer: Lightborn. It's saved me more times than I care to mention. With the change coming up, it'll be even more protective. Special mention for Predator, especially when looking for survivors at a distance. It's a good perk to take on those sprinting around the map.

  • Well, it's possibly one of two things:

    1. Something reported on your friend's profile from a while back. Complaints that lead to bans do not happen so quickly. If it's this, that SWF team would have nothing to do with this.

    2. It could be some sort of hack. I've heard of YouTubers who have been banned for 24 - 48 hours almost instantly, and this was found as a hack. If this is the case, that SWF are very likely to be prime suspects.

Send a ticket to BHVR and ask them to look into it. If it's a hack, they should be able to sort this. If it's not, it's a discretion from another session that your friend may be responsible for, or at least reported by someone who believed your friend played unfairly.

  • I'm happy to say despite the dc ban not on, I have seen probably as many since as I saw when the ban was on, which I take to mean that those who were weak and whiny had left, leaving those who actually played the game.

Just because someone doesn't like a killer or a map, it doesn't give them the right to ruin the game for those who do want to play it. I'll be happy when the ban returns, and any crybabies who were taking advantage of it crawl back into their cots.

  • Mine was after a 4K as Trapper:

Survivor: "That was the best Trapper I've faced! You played fair and those setups were amazing! So hope to face you again!"

It's when someone who loses a trial can be so gracious afterwards which earns my respect so much more than any decent play.

  • It's most fun when you get a game which goes right down to the wire, with both sides playing well and non-toxic.

This morning, I had an absolutely epic encounter versus The Executioner. All members of the team worked hard against a vicious Pyramid Head, who used his cages of attonement to maximum effect, and that stealth perk when he stomps a generator nearly gave me a heart attack as he just pounced around the corner! It came down to 1 gen to go, but then ultimately ended in him vs me, and after some tight plays around the shed I was lucky enough to run into the hatch.

But my God, it's matches like those which really stand out. That and every match is different, and whilst there will be matches like yesterday when I was faced-camped by a Doctor which can sullen the mood, most of the time each round has something memorable, whether it's by a star player on either side, a specific play, comedy, story-telling. It's what you make of it.

  • I've played all via Book of Memories, and for me Silent Hill 4: The Room has always been the most terrifying! That's the only game I've played - including all those "cursed video games" - that feels like there is something disturbingly wrong with it, even now!

The nearest any game has come to that terror for me since were Outlast and P.T., but The Room is a really unnerving experience.

Then it shows the Spirit in the backstage interview seat picking splinters out of her face.

"Yeah, I KNOW I'm a ghost and shouldnt be affected -RAWR!!!- by physical objects like pallets, but... Nea's a twat. Also its a tick -RAWR!!!- I cant help it so please stop drawing attention to it."

Queue the spin-off show "Rin: Afterliving with Tourette's" :D.

Just to add, I have Tourette's, so no insult meant.

  • In an Identity V tournament I was matching they could veto characters, so it may work. But then again it may get to a point some maps are never used at all.

Perhaps make an additional offering that works as the opposite to the map spawn ones already in place, so the offering would block a realm instead. That way it won't be overused.

  • I'd be all for a dl c based on The Evil Within! I do wonder if The Keeper would be a more iconic killer. Although again his powers would not be much new.

He could throw safes about the map which he can teleport to; he has rather modified traps which would just be like Trapper. Nothing majorly special.

Perhaps an unlikely killer to use could be Stefano Valentini! His ability to use his camera to freeze opponents could be made to slow them down, or the fact his images relive moments, maybe he can take a shot, which allows him to rewind both the survivor and himself, so as to a) confuse the survivor and b) learn from a mistake he did then.

I just imagined that nea would be teagging in the background.

And afterwards Gary Liniker is in the studio: "So I apologise to all our viewers for that. I can assure you that Nea has been confronted for this action, and is currently against a rank 1 Spirit match, and we have some news? Okay, Chris Kamara has more"

Chris Kamara - "It's a bloody massacre Gary!"

Trapper loads into the match to see an OoO user

"Its ok Evan...you got this...This is gonna be a GREAT match"

Narrorator- But it was NOT a great match...

I read the Evan bit as if he was rocking in a corner after many, many trials of teabagging, flashlights and "ggez baby killer" comments!

  • It could turn into a comedy, like a more brutal version of Takeshi's Castle or Total Wipeout.

Having Richard Hammond commentate on a match would be amusing, and having those backstage segments @LordGlint mentioned, it gives me vibes along the lines of Match Of The Day!

Interviewer - "So, Evan. That was a disappointing performance out there, and you must have felt gutted by the result"

Trapper - "Yeah, well, you know, it was a tough match, and certainly that's not the way I expected it to go. I understand the fans will be upset by this, but basically, you know, we need to learn from this and come out stronger the other end"

Interviewer - "Do you have anything to say about that Nea play? Did you think that was a foul"

Trapper - "Yeah, well, you know I do think the governing body should do something about that drop onto the top of the car where I couldn't get her, and I'm surprised that was not picked up on but, you know, at the end of the day you gotta just move on"

Interviewer - "Thank you for your time"

    Trappet - "Yeah".

  • I just treat them as any other player, really. They play as they do; I play as I do, and whatever the result it is time to move to the next game. Unless they're a decent person in the comments, there wouldn't be a reason to rewatch their stream anyway.

  • There are a few. A couple that quite rightly shouldn't be done, but make me giggle, and a couple which could be good but maybe they're not so well known:

Chapter: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

    Survivor: Sam Smith

    Killer: Tomato

    Map: The Stadium

    Attack-of-the-Killer-Tomatoes.gif

    Chapter: Little Shop of Horrors

    Survivor: Seymour Krelborn

    Killer: Audrey II

    Map: Skid Row

Chapter: Eternal Darkness - Sanity's Requiem

    Survivor: Alexandra Roivas

    Killer: Pious Augustus

    Map: Rhode Island Mansion

    EternalDarknessHelloPious-672x372.png

    Chapter: The Cat Lady

    Survivor: Susan Ashworth

    Killer: Doctor X

    Map: The Hospital

  • I couldn't agree more! Lightborn being in place when 4 survivors are armed with torches is one of those moments that make me grin evily and prepare for "Operation: Shattered-Dreams"! When it dawns on those survivors they've picked the wrong fight, you can see in their actions how the tide has turned.

  • I use 70% for killer and 75% for survivor. The killer's speed I find counters 360s and such well enough, and for survivors the quickness to execute a 360 and scan for killers quickly requires a higher sensitivity level.

  • I'm still stuck in those dang cornfields most of the time! A map such as Hawkins or Midwich is actually a much-welcomed change for me!

  • I'll clarify my nerf:

It's actually nothing to do with the stealth part; moreover the small percentage boost to some actions. I'd just get rid of that, but keep the detection as is.

I'd then move that percentage boost over to Premonition, so you gain a certain amount of time with that boost. This adds something over the cooldown it suffers.

So basically, just a shifty around. But the detection feels fine to me.

  • Maple and brown sugar oatmeal.

  • I'm not even 100% sure The Entity has a consciousness we can relate to, let alone a gender!

How I mean is it may be something that acts like an amoeba or virus of sorts - it does a lot of complex stuff, but is it simply instinctual or thought out?

In terms of gender I have no idea, but it may not adhere to gender that we identify things by.

  • Depression Simulator is probably what those red ranks are feeling right now!

  • The Bunny Game. What the @%$& was the idea to do something like that??

The Human Centipede (first movie) takes something from you after watching it, but The Bunny Game is ... no.

  • That's an interesting theory, because if that were the case then The Entity is interested in killers even at a cellular level. It does make a lot of sense since Adiris was a good and much-loved individual, whilst the plague was killing indiscriminantly.

I like this theory as an explanation for the somewhat unusual choice for The Entity!

  • The SCP is full of potential, but there are so many to choose from. This website gives a decent run-down:

    www.scp-wiki.net

I would also like to give a mention to the rather brilliant Trevor Henderson:

    Gallery

  • Resident Evil: Resistance is probably my top choice.

  • Yeah, a response at least confirming a response (whatever the outcome) would be welcomed.

To have notifications of anyone who gave a thumbs-up to me would also be nice. This may actually promote a more positive space for the game!

  • The Nurse's cool-down change.

    Rotten Fields

    Toxic behaviour

  • They are fine and have counters. Especially fun if adrenaline kicks in on a dying survivor who's slow to react and instantly downed! Adrenaline feels like the survivor equivalent of NOED to me. So I am fine with those perks. The game should be challenging on both sides. The only way to get better is to be challenged.

  • Rotten Fields for me. It's just the most boring map to play on with no discerning features or character. It simply "exists". That was probably a day The Entity couldn't be bothered to do much with the time it had on its hands.

  • Some suggested changes:

Oni - Everytime he absorbs blood he gets a 5% chance of catching any blood-transmitted disease carried by that survivor.

Wraith - Everytime he rings his bell there is a 3% chance class of school kids will appear, mistaking this for the dinner bell.

Huntress - Has a 10% chance at the start to replace Ariana Grande in her "Dangerous Woman" music video. Survivors get a free ggez round.

Trapper - after a generator lights up he gets the "inferiority" status, knowing he'll always be a poor man's Jason.

Clown - His weight-loss plan is making him hungry. Every 3 minutes he does not get a mori, he cuts off one of his own fingers to snack on.

Spirit - Has a 5% chance of getting "the laws of physics" status effect and tumbles into a pile of body parts on the floor.

Hillbilly - Has an increased percentage as the trial goes on of getting into a rage over now having cooldown on his chainsaw and leaving the trial to give feedback to the forum.

Legion - hex: adulthood. Suddenly hits the realisation he/she isn't actually cool. Starts think about mortgages and life insurance for his/her children.

Ghost Face - If he teabags too much, he'll pull a muscle and get a 60% drop in speed.

Demogorgon/Nurse/Pyramid Head/Doctor - No longer kill in trials, and instead have gone on to form an Akira Yamaoka tribute band in honour of both the brilliant Silent Hill franchise. They certainly have the look. Perhaps the next Slipknot/Ghost band in terms of scare factor.

  • People get upset when they lose. Even if you did not have a "crutch" perk they'd find something else to justify the damage their ego took.

It's better for some to just shift their failings onto others, even though thwy'd come away learning nothing of value and will make the same mistakes again and again, but reassured they have created a reason why they failed.

If those people instead sought to see what else they could have done better then they are more empowered, knowing that they can improve and get better, rather than sit in the dark, empty abyss of ignorance and failure to see their errors.

  • It sounds like a fun alternative! Like a last man standing game. Sure, put me down!

That looks like siren-head's gal pal. Now there would be an interesting one.

She's more disturbing than Soren Head. For a start, at least Siren Head doesn't make sexual noises when roaming! That tripod abomination is messed up in many ways!

  • It's possible they don't ignore all comments. Indeed, changes were made based on feedback (adjustments to The Executioner's perks as one recent example).

However, there may be others they do ignore. Primarily, this may be due to the simple lack of politeness those particular posts exhibit. If somebody were to rudely criticize something you did, you're less likely to give a crap about them than someone who offers a reasoned, unemotional and respectful argument. Indeed, those rude posters are perhaps the very ones they consider toxic and actually want to get rid of!

Some posts - and I'd like to think they're the minority - are from people with a lack of social skills and illogically blunt arguments, or those who just are so blindly entitled they really think the game should revolve around them alone. That toxicity is the type of crap that they could do without.

  • Sometimes the smack-talk can actually sour it for them, if played right.

One time, one person was gloating as The Hag, as I was the last survivor downed, saying "You won't escape this round". I reasoned with them that ultimately I would bleed out, so their aim of making sure I won't escape would ultimately prove fruitless. Even when they tried to understand the logic, they made it so that their aim was for me not to escape, but as I pointed to them this was not possible they became more irritated, calling me r******d & even though I was hooked I claimed victory based on their terms. They weren't happy :D

Another time, another survivor in a SWF decided it was important for me to know they were teabagging at the exit gates when opened (I 1k'd, which was alright by me considering). I started to use my psychology training, turning it around and asking them why it was so important for them to let me know and trying to understand what they were compensating for. They became annoyed, eventually calling me "freak" and leaving.

Basically, if anyone is needlessly bitter or salty, if you take your emotions out of it and focus on tactical or clever-dick responses, what they originally believed would be rubbing salt into the wound ultimately sours their victory.
