What this thread needs is some posts to devs streaming while they play killer, that way the rest of us can watch it, dissect it, and write a new rulebook, since obviously the people who designed it will know best how it's meant to be played.
Until then, this thread is just random players saying what they do and don't like. Can't really take anything away from that except that you can't make everyone happy all the time, which we already know.

I'm still having this problem as well. I'm on PS4 Pro.

I don't even see my charms when I'm in a match(as killer)I only see charms on hooks when I play survivor.
I'm still having that problem, too! It sucks. And the "Pustula Flower" charm (from the first Rift) that I use on Blight was broken even before this new bug. I made a post about that and it didn't get any traction, which sucks because it's not only quite a nice charm but it's also a Premium charm: technically people paid money for it.
-
I think it's already been mentioned, but I too will point out that the killer gets more points for a survivor DCing than they do for a survivor bleeding out.
On a related note, I had a hell of a time doing that challenge to pick two survivors up during a match. The moment I made that challenge active, I couldn't get a slugging killer to save my life. Absolutely maddening. (I did finally get it, but it took a lot of matches.)

Every charm should be usable for both killers and survivors according to me...
I agree. I really do. Dwightcrow would be pretty good on survivors. and Trap-o-Lantern belongs on Trapper's hook.
But this Mr. Puddles Stuffie charm is where I'm actually annoyed. I've gotten it, and I can't put it on The Clown's hook. I'm disappointed enough to just not continue working on the Rift, and if that happens I won't be buying the Premium Pass. I was playing solo survivor to do challenges and get Rift fragments and unlock this thing as quickly as I could, so... yeah, I'm well into the burnout phase.
It should be pretty quick and not a huge pain in the ass to make Mr. Puddles a universal charm. It deserves to be a universal charm, it's that good. Hell, I'll put it on all my killers' hooks as a show of appreciation. Please, devs? All my killers' hooks, I swear it.

If you double something 3 times that is 6x the bp. Triple is multiplying by 3.
If you multiply something by 2 then multiply it by 2 again it is impossible for it to be triple as both multiplying numbers are even.
I'm not sure if you guys are discussing mathematical terminology or DbD's Bloodpoint system, but I'm going to point out how DbD's Bloodpoint system works just in case anyone is confused by it.
If a killer burns a Survivor Pudding and runs BBQ, that's 2 100% bonuses, which becomes a 200% bonus. In other words, if the killer earns 32k in the match, the full amount of points they receive at the end is 96k, so that's triple Bloodpoints.
I just wanted to clear that up for anyone reading this thread who doesn't know that DbD uses additive math when percentages are involved (which is how Stridor counters Iron Will).
-
Ever since dedicated servers went live, I've been unable to consistently counter flashlights. I didn't have a problem before dedicated servers, but now I just always run Lightborn because otherwise avoiding blinds feels completely out of my control.
-
Some of my favorite moments as survivor are when I time it perfectly so that I'm cleansing a dull totem as the last gen pops... and a second later there's an explosion letting me know I cleansed NOED just as it lit up. I love that.

Swf breeds inflated ego's. This is what happens when a game spoon feeds someone they think they are better at it than they really are so instead of accepting that they made a mistake which got one of them hooked they'll deflect blame onto the killer to protect their ego's.
I can't see solo players crying about egc hooks, I play survivor solo and frequently see people just escaping rather than going back for the hooked person.
Yeah, I play solo, and if I go for a rescue during EGC then I accept that it's very, very risky. If the killer is not camping the hook, then I recognize that the killer let us escape. There's nothing very satisfying about those escapes, it was just the killer being nice and I'm grateful but it's not thrilling. If I try to rescue someone from a camping killer, then it's thrilling; whether it's a clutch escape or a botched attempt that gets everyone killed, that's how the EGC goes, the stakes are high.
Do I always go for the save? No, of course not. And I have messages turned off so I no longer get crap from entitled survivors who are upset that I didn't get myself killed trying to rescue them. I only ever got one thank you message for a clutch escape ("marry me" lol), but lots of hate mail. Survivors are the worst, even when you are one.

If they use it for BP they dont need aura reading abillity with it, or i am wrong lol?
BBQ is the only freaking farming perk that's useful.
I run Distressing, Beast of Prey, and BBQ on my killers. Distressing is usually harmful if anything, and unless I'm memeing Beast of Prey shouldn't even proc. BBQ is the only perk that has any real chance of giving value during a match, and even then I often don't see any auras with it because there are so many counters. But I'd really like to not be running zero perks that give any gameplay value just so I can earn BP.
The fourth farming perk is Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, which I don't run because it's useless. Absolutely useless. The survivor who cleanses it makes more BP than it gives me for running it.
If we're gonna mess with BBQ, then first the devs need to add other useful BP perks, because it sucks to run two useless perks and one sometimes-I-see-auras-with-it-if-the-survivors-are-super-lazy perk.
-
It's because it's an asymmetrical game, 1v4. It's like public speaking. You're putting your skills (or lack thereof, in my case) on display in front of multiple people. There's no one to help you, no one to back you up. It can feel like a lot of pressure, even stressful.
When I play for real, I start to feel anxious. That's why I so often meme around.
-
You play against The Twins? I never see The Twins. I've probably faced them fewer than ten times since they were released.
-
You lost the chase. Unless your teammates help you or the killer screws up, you are supposed to go on a hook. That's the killer's objective, to put survivors on hooks: if the devs make that more difficult for killers in ways that killers can't even counter (like fewer hooks or survivors wiggling off too fast), either all matches will be slug-fests or survivors will wait in hour-long queues because no one will play killer.
-
I think the new killer is a lot of wasted potential.
The Joker thing is way overdone and frankly boring at this point. They should've saved the k-pop idol background for a female killer, and this killer should be a mafia/gang enforcer. He'd keep the flashy fashion, but his design could be more along the lines of Masao Kakihara. Still has the insanity and crazy smile like the Joker while being... more sinister.
It also sucks that this chapter is coming out while they're not making new maps, because the aesthetics for this killer are great and we should totally be getting a dance club map or something.

"The devs designed the game this way on purpose so killers can play nice or they can tunnel and camp, both are viable options"
Laughs in losing BP due to camp.
So being honest, the game is not designed in that way, you're forced to play in certain way to earn more BP or pips... so no, if you want to play optimally, you need to have certain knowledge of what thing gives you the most BP and to avoid those who take BP from you...
Sidenote, a surivor doesn't have ways to "lose BP's", you can say that an unsafe rescue will make you depip but still you'll earn the points for rescuing another survivor whereas a killer indeed has a penalty on BP earnings when camping.
You don't lose BP for camping. You lose emblem points which go towards pipping. But players never lose Bloodpoints for anything. There are no negative Bloodpoint events.
Anyway, I'm just repeating what the devs have said on their livestream. They responded to community questions, including one about getting rid of tunneling/camping: they said they don't want to remove the players' options.
-
If we're going to go with Japanese, I'd rather see a member of the Yakuza over a ninja. Though, we already have two Japanese killers, so I'd go with a mobster enforcer of some sort in general over another Japanese killer. The devs could've even kept the same style of cosmetics, let the killer be flashy (but please, not like Joker, it's been done so much it really is boring at this point), and saved the k-pop idol backstory for a female who can get all the fun k-pop idol cosmetics.
This chapter is extremely disappointing because they squandered a lot of potential.

I love it. Good idea. One obviously cannot expect people to play fair if unfair and selfish playstyles are rewarded by the game. Might be difficult for some cases, but I like the idea behind it.
But the devs don't want to take those options away from people. They've said it adds unpredictability to the game to allow the things that you're referring to as "unfair."
The devs designed the game this way on purpose so killers can play nice or they can tunnel and camp, both are viable options. And they designed the survivor role so that players can choose to play as a team or play selfishly. On the DbD Steam page it's listed as one of the game's features: "Survive Together… Or Not - Survivors can either cooperate with the others or be selfish."
-
EGC is the most fun time in the match. Hell, sometimes it's the only fun bit of the match. The stakes are high, there's a timer. And when killers play like this, survivors can't even complain the killer didn't let them participate and get gens done. I've noticed survivors get really annoyed when I stop them from doing gens.
Everyone should be happy in matches like the ones you're describing. Do you not like doing gens or something? 'Cause if so, you seem to be in the minority.
-
I would've preferred a female k-pop idol. Think of the fashion! The killers can have waaaay awesomer outfits than survivors, so getting a fun flashy k-pop idol killer that's male is just a huge letdown to me.
I also don't like that it's another killer with a long-range attack, especially since it takes a whole bunch of hits to down a survivor. And I really don't like how much he reminds me of the Joker, because I am so. damn. tired. of everyone trying to be Joker (including Jared Leto... okay, maybe especially Jared Leto).
If we were gonna get a male character like this, the devs should've skipped past the current overdone Joker-type character and gone more Masao Kakihara, instead. They could've used a mobster background or something for the male, saving the k-pop idol theme for a female.
Edit: Wanted to also mention how much it sucks that we get a new chapter with such awesome aesthetics during a time when they're not designing new maps. We should have an amazing dance club map with this chapter, but we don't. Absolutely. Disappointing.

The point of his post was to try and tell survivors not to waste his time, I don't care how he put it or what phrases he used, that's the entire point of him posting. Everyone gets that if you don't hide he can kill you faster. And pretty much everyone says screw that.
If you say so. I didn't get that from his post at all, it seemed more of a "don't complain when you do this to yourself" post.
Though, he wasn't talking about survivors hiding.
He specifically mentioned a survivor who ran to a dead area on a map where there were no hooks available. The survivor wasn't hiding. Personally, if a survivor goes down too far away from a hook and the only thing I can do is stand and stare at them while they bleed out, I really don't care about time spent waiting around. That's their choice. But since it is their choice, I'd find it really pathetic if the survivor then complained about bleeding out.
edit: I actually somewhat recently had that happen, but the survivor didn't do it on purpose. They actually crawled to a hook for me when they realized the problem.

How is this so hard for you people? The op wants the slugged third dead person to not make it hard to be found after they've wasted who knows how long hunting for the 4th person. I said screw that if you slug me to sweat for the 4k I'm going to make it hard to find me, waste your time like you wasted mine, and hopefully cost you some bps. Can I explain it in any more simple terms?
@chadbeastofprey said:
i quite like hiding when i'm the last slugged and wasting the killers time
The OP is not telling survivors not to crawl away.
What OP said is "If you want to get hooked to get it over faster, don't go to a corner of the map were there are no hooks available. It's fine if you don't want to but then don't complain at end game that you got slugged to death, of course the killer won't let you wiggle off."
Breaking that down, he's saying that if you want the game to end quickly, then don't go to a corner. If you don't want to end the game quickly, he doesn't care, but don't complain you got slugged to death after.
OP does not care if survivors crawl into a corner. He is not saying "stop wasting my time." What he is saying is, "If you crawl to a corner, don't complain about bleeding out." The post is about survivors doing something to themselves but blaming the killer for it.

Please do it.
I play as tier 1 Mikey, so I love when survivors bring OoO. It's glorious in chases.
-
What a waste of energy, getting "revenge" on random killers.
I don't know what's justice about trying to get revenge on a killer who does nothing but take turns chasing survivors, maybe hooking one but for the most part not even bothering to swing their weapon, but okay, whatever. If ya'll are gonna wait around in the exit gate, though, could at some point three of you leave while the fourth remains so I get a chance to close the hatch? You guys made plenty of BP while poor ol' tier 1 Mikey made like none, you guys are usually so far ahead of me I don't even earn anything for chase.

You can learn from them though. Youll never get better by only playing against low ranked people who have no idea what theyre doing. I understand the frustration, but try to see the positive side of it.
At level 31, he's got very little time in this game. He's still learning the basics and trying to unlock perks. Matches should challenge players by putting similar skill levels against each other, letting players learn at their own pace as their skill level increases. A match like the one he had is just frustrating, and being frustrated hinders learning; some people learn by being thrown in the deep end, but a lot don't, especially if they have a lot of stuff they don't understand being thrown at them at once so that they don't even know what it is they don't know, which means mis-matched matches are demoralizing for a lot of players and chase them away from the game entirely. The frustration in this game is a lot worse than most because of the asymmetrical aspect.
There are also people like me, who just plateau; no matter what ranks I go against, no matter what I theoretically learn from videos and what not, in practice I seem to have stopped improving. Hopefully one day skill-based MMR will go live, but until then inexperienced and low-skill players are getting a lot of miserable matches, and the only thing they learn from them is "play a different game."
-
In the olden days this was possible (though still a bad idea), but with the new matchmaking system it's actually impossible. Killers can't even change who they want to play as once they queue up, now. In the (near? near-ish?) future, MMR will be killer-specific, which means the survivors in the lobby are chosen to go against that specific killer (not chosen to go against that player in general, but that player as that killer).
I guess BHVR could implement a system where you choose a killer you don't want to play against before it starts looking for a lobby for you, but I can pretty much guarantee they won't. First off, enjoy longer queue times. Second, I wouldn't be surprised if BHVR had to ask the license holders for permission before allowing such a thing, and I doubt any of them are going to be like, "Sure, let players boycott Freddy/Myers/Pyramid Head." Especially not Pyramid Head.
-
People shouldn't DC unless they absolutely have to (in other words, the match can't end). AFK is always better. As both survivor and killer, I've gotten some dumb tome challenges done because another player went AFK.
-
BBQ isn't strong enough to justify it being a hex perk. Look at Devour Hope, that lets the killer one-hit down and mori survivors; seeing an aura for a few seconds is nowhere near that strong.
Anyway, when I'm the survivor on the hook, I want the killer to have BBQ so they go the hell away and let me get rescued.
-
No. The survivor stats should return to being horizontal along the bottom of the screen. The information has the best readability in that form.
I would also prefer the character art from the adept achievements to the current character portraits—it would fit the aesthetic much better—but that's just a personal preference and doesn't affect the usefulness of the HUD, unlike the survivor stats layout.

During the time the hatch is still UNDER the kick you should be able because the hatch is still open and just add back hatch grabbing but make it so you have to stand behind the survivor or atleast sideways because then you are forced to either close the hatch and if the survivor is 1 meter away behind a pillar there should be enough time to escape if the killer closes it.
Lastly the gamer thing. Why is everyone so [BAD WORD] bloodpoints horny i mean if you get outplayed i understand that youa re mad after getting looped ofr about 5 min but when i play killer i give the hatch if i feel bad or if they deserve it and looping 5 min without a hit should be a well deserved hatch :) he was rank 16 and i was 3 but still he had all perks tier 3
"he was rank 16 and i was 3 but still he had all perks tier 3"
Not sure why you mention the perk tiers, they really don't matter. You can have a bunch of tier 3 perks and be terrible at the game. You can't de-pip past rank 16, so if someone's put time into the game and still massively struggles with it then that's where they're going to sit. All I see here is a killer who got royally screwed by matchmaking, going up against a rank 3 survivor the game had no business putting in his lobby, and you're upset he tried his hardest and didn't just give up.
Unless your post is satire. Really can't tell on these forums anymore, though.

People complain if the maps are dark and people complain if the maps are bright. Poor Devs lmao
This game doesn't have a built-in brightness slider, does it? A lot of games that rely on the lighting for atmosphere and/or gameplay elements have one of those sliders with an "adjust the slider until you just barely see this symbol" UI. Every monitor and TV screen is different. Having something that lets players calibrate the brightness in-game would be great, that way the devs can help players see the game the way it's meant to be seen.
A lot of the maps are too dark to me. I play on PS4, and goddamn do I hate Autohaven right now.
I personally think that in a horror game the maps should look darker when playing survivor and brighter when playing killer, because what menacing killer stumbles around in the dark banging their shins on buckets unable to see their victims?
-
Don't reward camping. And don't force the killer to camp. You'd be amazed how often it's the survivors' fault the killer doesn't leave the hook.
I had a match today where, as I was doing gens, I watched two survivors immediately swarm the hook. The killer ended up with three slugs pretty quickly. Yay team. Would the killer have left the hook if the survivors hadn't done that? I'll never know.
The way to punish camping is by not rewarding it. Stay away from the hook and do gens. If you want to trade places with the hooked survivor by using Borrowed Time, then wait until they get near the end of whatever state they're in (do not rescue someone immediately after they enter second state, that's infuriating to everyone). There's no reason to trade places on the hook if the person has plenty of time left in their current state: you're shortening the amount of time the killer ignores gens and stares at the hook if you save too early. Spend as much time as you're able doing gens.
I've seen camping killers get zero kills because the survivors traded places on the hook, did gens, and took hits for injured survivors. If the team doesn't work together intelligently, then yeah, you're screwed, but that's the game.
-
I'm on PS4 and the map is sooooo dark. I think the overblown green tint (seriously, I wanted Autohaven to keep its greenness, but this is just too much) makes it worse because it kills contrast.
-
I got it by making a lot of noise near a locker and then jumping into it directly after the killer came over to me and initiated chase. I'm sure it looked dumb as hell, they pulled me right out, but it completed the challenge.

@MiniPixels said:
I really hate it, but I have to admit it's better then the first design. They are one step away from recreating the old HUD, all they have to do is rotate the survivor portraits horizontally and put it under the power and we're good. I don't know why they are being so stubborn in keeping it vertical, I've heard some rumors saying that it's to support longer names in other countries, but I don't see why a name being cut off was ever big enough of a problem to warrant ruining a HUD. If they insist on keeping the vertical portraits then at least give us an option that makes it the old HUD again it wouldn't be that hard.
If it's true about the long names, then there's still a problem with that: really long names will stick out ridiculously into the FOV.
It's better to put the survivor stats back to horizontal and switch the placement of the bleed-out bar and player name. If the player name is below the bar, then a long name can be split up into multiple lines.
Either that or the devs can just accept that no one really cares about player names that much. If they absolutely can't just split up or cut off the long names, they could give each survivor a short alias during the match and then show who's actually who on the end screen. Seriously, player names are the least important info and should have no influence on the HUD's design. The easy readability of the gameplay-affecting elements should take priority.
-
Survivors don't want to interact with the killer at all right now. I've had survivors who don't bother to run away after I hit them, they just stand there and point at the gen.
Why does the killer even exist?
-
I can't stand trying to play as Nurse, she feels awful on PS4. She was a difficult but fun challenge before her rework, but after she's nothing but a frustrating miserable chore to attempt. A 4k and max BP every single match forever still wouldn't feel rewarding enough to justify the headache that playing Nurse is.
She is not fun.
-
Am I the only one who finds it kinda nifty to come across the red glyphs randomly during matches, so I'm just not going to complete the challenge so I can keep it as an option forever?
I did the same thing with one of the pustula plant challenges. I wish those would show up in killer matches like the red glyph does.
-
If more than one person is playing a character, I'll dodge. I don't wanna tunnel, and my memory isn't good enough to keep track of multiple people playing the same character ("I hooked Meg... wait, there are two Megs? Which did I hook, the blond or the redhead? Fuuuuudge. Whatever, you guys finish those last four gens, I'm gonna go get a drink.").
Yeah, if I think I might bother to hook anyone, I'll dodge if there are multiples of the same character. I know myself too well, if I get confused about who I've hooked I'll just get frustrated with my poor memory and go afk, anyway, so it's better to dodge.
-
"adds a new element that the female character's chest shakes"
This isn't a new element. It's been in the game since Kate/Clown, it got broken for a time with graphics updates, and now the devs have fixed it. It's not new.
And there's absolutely nothing problematic about body physics in games. Fat on a belly jiggles, bags of fat on someone's chest jiggle, fat jiggles. If you don't like it, have words with mother nature.

the only reason it's not horizontal is because long names get cut off which i think is fine you don't need to see the whole name to identify that survivor just use the end game screen.
also like....who cares if you can't see the whole name? i don't think i have seen a single complaint about that. there really is no good reason to not keep it horizontal.
I agree with this, I don't think anyone cares about seeing the whole name. But if it really is that big of an issue to the devs...
If they put the bleed-out bar above the name instead of below it, then the name can be split up into multiple lines if it gets too long. The bleed-out bar (/hook state bar/deep wound timer) is always the same size, it's easy enough to leave a space for it between the survivor portrait and the survivor's name.
Having the survivor stats vertical is awful; horizontal is best both for compactness and for how quick and easy it is to read.
-
Can other players see the glyph when you're interacting with it, or do they just see the weird motion you're making?
-
The thing that really needs to happen is they need to put the survivor stats back in the bottom left corner, horizontal. If the reason they're using this vertical layout is because they don't want long player names to get cut off, then they need to switch the locations of the bleed-out bar and the player names. That's all. Have the survivor portrait, under that have the space where the bleed-out bar goes, and under that have the player name (which can now be split up into multiple lines if need be).
It's not just bad that the player names are sticking out into the FOV (but that is bad), it's also that the vertical layout hurts readability. It is slower to read the survivor stats in a vertical format than in a horizontal one. And the bleed-out bar not being centered with the survivor info hurts readability as well.
-

Unfortunately they're not going to do the survivor icons any other way. Apparently horizontal at the bottom it's too easy for the names to be cut off, which they can't have.
I'd rather have the names turned off completely than have them sticking out from the side. They're the least important part of the HUD, they do not matter for gameplay whatsoever.
What they should do is have the survivor stats be horizontal. Have the survivor portrait above an empty space where the bleed out timer / hook state progress bar can go. Then, under that, have the player's name, which now, since it's under the bar, can be painlessly broken up into multiple lines if need be.
Boom, fixed.
-
Please, please return the survivor info to being horizontal. Them being vertical is bad both for readability and for the amount of space taken up. Having those player names jutting out is definitely a negative. Having the player names along the bottom of the screen was best because it kept them out of the way.
When I say better for readability, I mean both when the player needs to see info at a quick glance and also for interpreting the data they see. For instance, the bleed out and hook progress bars are much much more difficult to read now that they're not centered under the player's icon and name. There's no point of reference for where the center is. The bars are too small, and they don't flash when someone's being carried by the killer.
I'd also like to see the adept portraits used in place of the color portraits being used now, but that's a personal preference and has nothing to do with readability and ease of use.
-
Yeah, the spawn rate for event items is terrible. It's true for every event, and it absolutely sucks.
-
Well, the devs already admitted the only actual events they're going to do are Halloween and their Anniversary. Otherwise, it's just little celebrations with BP, cosmetics, and items. If they really do put the extra time and effort into making the Halloween event something special, I'll be happy.
