I get what you mean but it was originally designed as an anti tunnelling perk and everything BHVR says isn't true
cough cough deathsligner not having to deal with looping cough cough
Well, originally it was designed as a screw-you-killer-for-winning-that-chase perk.
It took the devs years to fix that. What we've got here is a kind of compromise, but when some survivor runs in front of me and hops on a gen or makes an unsafe save and then stabs me for trying to stop them, then it should be apparent to the devs that something is wrong and the perk still needs fixing.
I'd certainly like the perk to be an anti-tunneling perk like the one Scott suggests.

Yeah actually, it was to see people's opinions on a really unlucky and unfortunate situation the survivor could not control as the map was small enough for a basement, team that unhook badly and leave you to die.
And to see how people felt about the killers choice to make their life worse aha
I mean... do you actually know what the killer was thinking? Sometimes I see someone get screwed over by their teammates, and I try to give them a break. But sometimes the match has just crashed so badly that I sigh and get it the hell over with so we can all move on to the next match rather than dragging out that death knell. Or I could be doing a challenge that requires the 4k and I've already failed it sooo many times that I can't be taking risks just to play nice.
There are a ton of variables in every match. You're seeing it just from your POV, but the killer is dealing with four different survivors and the match looks very different to them, as has been shown by comparing survivor/killer streams of the same match.
Also, you mention getting slugged but don't say what happened after. If the killer let you get picked up, he was being nice. He was giving you a chance to participate in the game while (for him) hopefully slowing down gens by getting another survivor off a gen to go pick you up. You say you were all on death hook, but that makes it sound like all four of you were still alive, in which case three of you split up could pop the last three generators while he chases Steve.
You don't know how many times he may have given other screwed-over survivors a second chance (it's not uncommon to see), or how many times he may have thrown the match for doing so.
Maybe you already thought about all this and I'm not adding anything helpful. If so, I apologize.
The best most forum members can offer are comments about basement plays. I mentioned before, as a survivor, it's often a surprise if anyone bothers to rescue me from the basement, and I certainly don't expect it. Also, the majority of the time, they screw up the save, so what's actually happened is I got myself and someone else killed.

This. Also that console players on ps4/Xbox one/switch should "buy a pc" or "upgrade to ps5/Xbox series x" instead of devs optimizing their game.
The suck thing is I actually have a PC that could handle it now, but there's no cross-progression.
(That in no way legitimizes the "get a PC" argument. Hell, I'm actually pointing out it adds salt to the wound. The devs said they'd optimize for consoles, they need to optimize for consoles.)
-
That console basically doesn't deserve optimization and we console players should be grateful it runs at all.

You might wanna stop playing for a while if you are so tired of playing against her. She’s in the next tome so you might be seeing a lot more of her.
We're about to get a flood of first-time Nurses. Match after match, survivors are going to have to stand still in one spot if they want to get some altruism points. Even then, it might take her a few tries.

@Sciffer said:
So all good points, honestly in my frustration I did forget about old days that I been told about. Still though, it is rather frustrating having to go through the whole ordeal to slug, look for last survivor, having 3rd picked up, repeat over and over till you say ######### it and look for hatch and just ignore them for a while. Finally find a hatch, find a survivor, take them down, hook and run to a hatch hopping that you get there in time. It's a ######### chore, a word that summons up playing a killer, a ######### chore.
Yeah, slugging for the 4k isn't fun, I only ever do it as killer if I'm doing some sort of challenge that requires a 4k. Otherwise, screw it.
Killer does often feel like a chore. I haven't started up the game since before the Christmas event ended. Survivor queues are too long, not enjoying playing killer, gonna play Dying Light or something else, instead.
In terms of the hatch, what actually needs to be done is 1. A killer should not be punished when he gets a 3k and the final survivor escapes through the hatch. Everyone always says "that's a win for the killer," but in terms of points the game doesn't treat it like one. 2. Survivors should not be told it's a win. It's a consolation prize at best. Their end screen is just "You escaped! Hooray!" but no, it shouldn't be. For one thing, the fewer gens completed, the fewer points the hatch should reward, that way all survivors are encouraged to work on gens and fewer play solely for the hatch. Also, the survivor should look all beat up and crawling on the ground or something on the end screen, showing that their team's ass got beat and their hatch escape is not the same as getting out through the exit gate.
-
@Sciffer said:
I do believe you but is there no better way? Like devs could not come up with something less frustrating? Like what if, just if, last survivor just idk, loses the game? To emphasize the fact that it is a team game and not "if I get out it's all cool"? Lets be real here, as I said above, 4 survivors doing 5 gens 80 sec without any assistance vs 9+ hooks where each chase can be gen long is not really in killers favor.
Fine, I get it that they been cuddled so much that they feel that they DESERVE to have a chance even if they lost. How about a door game? Basically what happens when hatch is closed? Cause let me tell you, I escape quite often by letting killer find a hatch while I open a door as soon as they close it.
Point is, it is not fun to play a killer. What is that survivors do when they don't have fun? Oh yeah DC, well killers been dcing on a whole new level, by uninstalling this ######### game.
Actually, going by horror-movie standards, rather than the fourth survivor automatically losing, the game should just be capped at 3 survivors dying and the fourth one is always the "final girl" (or guy, but you know what I mean).
-
The hatch exists so that the final remaining survivor cannot hold the killer hostage by hiding around the map. The survivor bothers to continue playing because they actually have a chance to escape, and the killer bothers to keep playing because they have a chance to stop that survivor. The game continues.
Back before the EGC, the hatch didn't spawn for the last survivor unless at least two generators were done. Let me tell you, as killer, those days sucked.

I do play on console, ps4 actually, I mainly get stuck with pc killers when I'm playing as survivor
Haven't been able to play survivor much lately because the queues are too long, so I dunno what kind of killers I'd get. But I know that playing killer on PS4 I'm fighting not just the survivors but also the low fps, the frame drops, and the poor controller sensitivity, and there's the pop-in that has me thinking that bush over there was moving when in fact it just didn't exist until a moment ago. Killers like Blight, Oni, and Nurse, who are touted as being so great on PC, are apparently a lot, lot less fun on console. And I don't know if the sound is worse on console or if it really is this bad for everyone, but yeah, the audio has gotten worse and worse the past couple years.
You did say "Make it harder for us to win.... I need more challenge." So, if you're already playing killer on PS4, then I guess a Nintendo Switch is what you're looking for.

Wait, the sound is this horrible for EVERYONE and they haven't done anything to fix it? Here I am thinking it is my deafness in one ear, but everyone is getting spammed with tribal drums drowning out any possible tracking/enjoyment of other sounds in the game.
Indeed. It's not just you, we are all royally [BAD WORD]ed by the audio mixing, and it often somehow gets worse every update.
-
They wanted to have decreased item rarity in chests, but it bugged out. They discovered that their current code just couldn't support it. Supposedly, the way Hoarder is now isn't the final version and it will get an upgrade of some sort, but I doubt the devs have any idea of what they can do or when it'll be ready.
-
They changed The Legion Julie Day of the Dead outfit so that it no longer glows (well, all the Day of the Dead ones, but I only own hers), and now it's just so... boring. I'm really, really disappointed in how it looks, now.
-
... I don't agree with OP or anything, but to be perfectly fair they mention his chainsaw, facecamping, NOED, and follow it up with "and still can’t get the job done." OP is talking about using those things and still failing.
When I started out playing DbD, I mained Bubba just for BBQ. I rarely used his chainsaw and never facecamped, but I did use NOED (not to get kills, when I first started playing killer I wasn't going for kills, just those Blighted hooks). New inexperienced killers aren't gonna be good just because they pick a certain killer/perks, it still takes experience to not suck ass.

"the plague can use throw up to down someone even if the survivor is 20 feet away"
Hmmm, I take it you don't play on console? I guess if you want a challenge as killer, that's what you should do: get a PS4, Xbox One, or if you want to go for the serious hardcore killer challenge get a Switch.

The devs have said the purpose of the loud chase music is to give injured survivors a chance to escape, but... ugh, the loud chase music, the loud screams, some of the loud killer sound effects, but the itty bitty barely audible noise of grass rustling, it's like the devs want us to mute the [BAD WORD]ing game.

Don't give me flack for this, I'm mostly going by experience and anecdotal evidence, here...
You want a girl to be interested, act disinterested. Not rude, just... oh, it's hard to explain. Put two guys next to a girl, one who's into her and one who's not fawning over her, and she's very likely to put effort into trying to get that second guy to want her. Everyone wants what they can't have. Simple truth of life. (Does this always work? Is this some foolproof thing? No.)
Confidence is also important. Don't let anyone walk all over you. If she's asking a ton of favors of you but not offering to do any for you in return, that's a bad sign. There are friends girls have because they're romantically interested, and there are friends girls have because they're useful. If the girl is doing the latter, taking advantage of guys who like her, that's a bad sign in general. I had friends who knowingly did that and... I would never recommend any guy date them. Just, no.
Now, if we're talking about after you're with her... well, that's different for everyone, but yes, being friends is important. Being there for each other is important.
Also, have your own life, don't be needy. It's important to do stuff for yourself.
I should reiterate about confidence, confidence is sooo important. It really, really is.

The shadow killer could be based off of the Boogeyman, and have the power to teleport through (and/or hide inside of) lockers.
Maybe they could have a sort of "shadow dash" where they become a shadow, lowering their PoV to the ground but moving at 130% speed.
Sounds fun, I'd be down for trying out something like that.

I had been playing Battlefront II (Extraction mode, to be specific), but DICE didn't want to support that mode, never made any new maps, and even though it was hella fun, it just... it can't last forever on two maps. Now, the mode doesn't even exist, anymore. 😢

There's no "kinda sorta" option, so I chose yes, but I just want one thing:
Make Mikey immune to Spine Chill when he's in EW tier 1. He used to be, back before the Undetectable status became a thing, and he's crippled enough in tier 1 that Spine Chill detecting him is just an extra gut punch. He's slow and has practically no lunge, he's still a long way off from having an insta-down ability, stealth is the only thing he has going for him and Spine Chill completely takes that away. Plus, he has that loud breathing at all times to audibly warn survivors.
Poor slow Mikey gives a survivor with Spine Chill a speed boost just by looking at them. C'mon! #########.
Half the fun of Mikey is the unsuspecting survivor working on a gen, slowly panning their camera, and having the ever-loving [BAD WORD] scared out of them when they spot that face watching them from behind a tree.
-
Thinking of categories of types of killers/monsters...
Banshee, siren, or other sound-based killer
Weeping Angel, Michiko (IDV), SCP-173 type killer where looking at them affects them
Femme fatale, black widow, seductress type killer
Also a killer that uses shadows/darkness to travel and/or hide, because I like stealth killers and I also like the kind of killer who can surprise you even though you're hiding in the corner with your back against the wall.
We also don't have a killer that utilizes lockers, making them truly unsafe/dangerous.

What would make survivors happy? A realistic way to physically fight back (and don't you dare say that's what DS is, because it's not). It's completely ridiculous and unrealistic that the only thing a grown adult can do while being carried off to their doom is wave their arms like a petulant toddler being carted off to bed.
If people acted like [smart] adults, horror movies would end about two minutes in. None of it's meant to be realistic.
Anyway, the pallet mechanic is already ridiculous enough. It's like DbD doesn't know if it wants to be horror or slapstick comedy.

It is the holding the game hostage think about it . Your teammates are wasting time trying to save you while being camped sk they cant do their own task because they wNt to try tk flank and save you
Being held "hostage" in this game has a specific definition and is a bannable offense, so people are going to argue about the use of the word. Using it incorrectly confuses others and suddenly everyone thinks they can report killers for camping the hook (just to clarify for anyone else reading this, no, a killer camping the hook is not reportable).
People are constantly getting confused because there are two types of body blocking: the kind that's a legitimate part of gameplay and the kind that's a reportable offense. But that's nearly unavoidable, while using the word "hostage" properly is not.
So no, the game was not being held hostage.
-
What it should be is a chance for people who enjoy survival-horror to play a game that doesn't get stale after repeated playthroughs because the NPC's AI is predictable while also allowing people to play an awesome terror-inducing killer as seen in movies and other video games: get your stalk on, your shocks and scares, and some bloody mayhem with virtual torture and gore.
What we got is DbD.
-
If we're including jump scares, it's getting pallet slammed by the survivor I didn't know was there.
-
As killer, I'll often pull back and play much less aggressively if I can tell the survivors are low rank. I feel bad when one of them dies accidentally because no one rescued them.
As survivor, I feel bad to find out the killer was some brand new rank 20. If I never see them all match, I can't judge their skill, but if they chase me and I manage to elude them for more than 20 seconds then I know they're extremely new and I'll often let myself die in the end.
I don't BM, so at least I never have to feel guilty about that, but even just winning against unskilled players doesn't feel like an accomplishment at all. It feels more like matchmaking turned me into a way to punish others for playing the game.
-

^ This. Dying Light, the absolute tunnel-them-out-fast-fast-fast perk was also released in the same chapter. And later the devs released Mettle of Man in its absolutely broken state.
The devs changed DS into what it is now because they were looking for a compromise, but it took a long time for them to finally stop punishing killers for winning chases.

It's entirely possible the speed vaulter was waiting for EGC. I've done that before- I don't know how your match went, but if I feel the Killer had a bad one or was harassed, I'll run up to the them once gates are open and offer myself as sacrifice.
And if I can't find them, I just let the EGC take me 🤷♀️
Killers put up with a lot of poo-poo sometimes, and they deserve love too. *Hugs*
This is true. I've had plenty of matches where I let myself die to the EGC. A lot of times I'll go into the basement and locker-spam a few times so the killer can come see me die if they want.

Maybe 1.5x would be good.
@NoOneKnowsNova said:
Although I think triple your usual bp is a bit much, I'd be up for a bp reward for playing the side with less players.
I (and a lot of others) didn't bother to start up the game for the recent 1.5x BP event. If long queues don't get a player to switch sides, 1.5x BP definitely won't. And there are killers who don't even run BBQ. Crazy, I know.
Anything less than 2x BP won't convince anyone, and even during the last double BP event I don't think queue times went super survivor-sided the way they used to. Shards would probably be a better guarantee for getting players to switch sides, but that'll never happen.
It seems like the people willing to switch back and forth between sides already do that just for better queue times. The ones who really don't wanna play the other side are the ones who need bribing, and from the way some people talk on these forums they'll need a lot of bribing.
-
I only play solo survivor and killer, whichever role has the shorter queue time. It probably balances out to half and half overall.
I have played SWF (could probably count the number of times on my fingers), but I dunno, I'm an introvert, most of the people playing are much younger, and I'd rather just chat with the people I live with while I play. And you can't switch between roles while playing SWF, and I feel obligated to play past the time I'd like to go do something else. It just feels awkward to me.
-
The benefit of hooking in the basement is that killers can more easily guard their hooked survivor(s), preventing an unhook or punishing a save. The basement is meant to be dangerous for any survivors in it. If I'm hooked in the basement I just assume I'm going to die, someone rescuing me at all is a nice surprise.
-
Killers have long queue times? My queue times at night are instant because everyone's playing survivor during peak hours.
And why are so many people playing survivor rather than killer? Probably SWF. It's evening, people and their friends are at home, they want to relax and chat while they play a game. That's most SWF. Yeah, the kind that make killers' lives hell are a thing, too, but let's be fair most people are tired from work or lazy or drunk, they're not out to become gods at one of the buggiest games ever created. I play solo survivor, and while I'm doing it I'm usually chatting with the other people in the room with me, bitching or laughing about whatever's going on in the game or talking about something completely unrelated, because who cares, it's a freaking game, and as survivor I spend a lot of time holding down R1 while on the generator, it's not exactly stimulating gameplay.
I doubt we'll ever get multiple game modes. Like I said, DbD is super buggy and the balance is all over the place, if they can't even get one game mode polished I don't think we can expect a second, not to mention the unpredictable way it'll affect queue times.
Buff solos survivors to have the same info that SWF get just by being on comms, then adjust killers to compensate. And fix matchmaking. Those changes would go a long way to improving the health of the game.
-
This is common. The auras BBQ shows are a nice bonus, they keep a BP perk from being completely useless, but yeah, there are so many counters that survivors with a modicum of experience can avoid ever being seen with it. I've had enough matches where I never saw a single aura that I often forget to look around after hooking.
When I see auras with it, it's great, sometimes it's invaluable, showing me what gen the last survivor is on. Other times I don't get a single use out of it an entire match. There are much better tracking perks, BBQ really is mostly for the BP.
If you want, you can think of BBQ as being a bit of a slowdown perk, forcing survivors to stop repairing gens for a moment and hide. However, you might get that benefit without actually running BBQ since it's not like most of them will know for sure if you're running it. Just turn in a circle after hooking someone to keep up the illusion.
-
Oh, sure. Survivors dying because they didn't just leave when they could've is one of the most amusing things in the game. I run Bloodwarden sometimes just to take advantage of those situations.
During one of the previous Tomes I was playing Spirit running NOED to do some sacrifice-during-the-EGC challenge. Got the survivors on death hook before the last gen popped so that whoever I caught had no chance of being rescued. A Claudette with a flashlight stood in the exit gate next to safety clicking her flashlight at me... so I walked away. Turn around. Yeah, she's the exact kind of survivor I expected, because she inched farther and farther away from safety to make sure I saw her gloating until finally she's running in circles all the way at the front of the exit gate. I just stand still and watch her up until the moment I phase on top of her ass and down her. Ah, yes, that was a satisfying sacrifice.
Some survivors just aren't prepared for patience or strategy. Or NOED.

haha probably. I'm sure there are some people who experience all 7 stages in quick succession on a daily basis, too. DbD is just that kinda game. I bounce back and forth between stages 6 and 7. Sometimes I'm about one button-press away from uninstalling, and others I'm just laughing at the bugs, running some I'm-gonna-lose-but-I'll-have-fun-doing-so meme build, and looking at the game like one big psychology experiment.
-
I think the devs have stated specifically that they want survivors to just be skins. They're worried certain survivors would be chosen over others for whatever their uniqueness is, and they don't want that to be the case. And from my point of view would definitely be hell because I can't even keep track of two survivors playing the same character.

Freddy: You love scaring people, and watching bad luck rise around them, you are sometimes greedy and love mischievious acts. In your world, no one truly understands you, you are smarter than most, and you are certainly...one of the scariest.
Feng: A lot of people like Feng as their main. You love attention and popularity (maybe) you are a black sheep in your family tree for your different opinions and hobbies. Not only do you have a dope style of shirts, but you have an excellent sense of humor and ways to make your audience want a popcorn refill!
hmmm... I main neither, but I'll say, I like Freddy's description. Words like "mischievous" and "scariest," those I can get behind. And Feng, well, I am the black sheep for liking horror.

They make him different. Not that I see those add-ons used very often. It takes a looong time for Mikey to reach tier 3 if he's using the Infinite tier 3 add-on, as well. If the team works on gens and doesn't let him get too much of his stalk on, they can power the gates before he'll be able to kill anyone.

The Nurses I go against are always pretty inexperienced. They may get the drop on me and get a hit, but after that I run in a straight line and they just never catch up to me... if I go down, it's usually because no one would heal me so I was forced to work on a gen injured. Feels kinda cheap to keep a Nurse busy for a few gens by running around the edge of the map.
I suppose once the new Tome drops the game will be flooded with inexperienced Nurses.
-
If you want to get buffs for being injured, there are perks for that.
Being injured may be a flawed mechanic, sure, but buffing survivors is the wrong way to go.
"No fair, I was injured and the killer chased me instead of the healthy one!" Well, pretty much the only result of a survivor being injured is that they are easier to find/chase, encouraging the killer to target them. C'mon, the survivor's not dripping blood and making extra noise so the killer won't chase them. The whole thing makes tunneling an injured survivor basically a requirement.
Hooking and/or injuring should put a debuff on the survivor, that way they are less of a threat to the killer and the killer is better off going after someone else to spread out that debuff.

"But what I really want is a killer based around grabs instead of chases."
That's why I play tier 1 Mikey. Now, if the devs would fix grabs and put it back so that he's immune to Spine Chill in tier 1, it'd be perfect.
I like stealth killers. If I could materialize out of the shadows and grab the survivor crouching in the corner trying to hide, that'd be a great killer power.

Nurse has a lunge? I often feel like I've hit a brick wall after blinking, she's the most miserable [BAD WORD]ing thing in the game, even worse than playing solo survivor.
Maybe if blinking weren't so disorienting and I could see anything rather than having it drop so many frames survivors just disappear... using her power I sometimes feel as blind as Spirit, except I have no chance of hearing survivors over Nurse's smoker's wheeze.
-
Teabagging is a strategy survivors use... they do it to provoke the killer into tunneling them, giving their teammates time to slam out gens. If the killer tunnels and facecamps them, the survivor wins.
I ignore survivors who teabag. I'll cut off chase with someone who teabags. They [BAD WORD]ing hate it, and I have seen them do very stupid things, putting themselves out of position and giving me an easy down, to get my attention. I've also had teabagging survivors disconnect when they realize I don't care about them.
