That calls for better optimization, not a DS buff lmao
And what should players do during those five years while we wait for optimization to happen? Just... not play? Actually, I'd like that; I've been avoiding playing, so it'd be a warm fuzzy feeling if other people joined me.
But asking for DS to be usable isn't quite the same thing as asking for a buff. The skill check is not the purpose of the perk. It made sense when DS was just a "haha, screw you for downing me, killer!" perk but now it only works after an unhook and only for 60 seconds and only if the survivor doesn't do any one of a myriad of things to progress the game. The tiny skill check prevents new players and anyone experiencing any performance issues from using DS. That's just unnecessarily blocking a large group of players from being able to get any use out of the perk. Altering the skill check doesn't affect the amount of time during which DS is active, it doesn't affect the crapton of requirements surrounding DS's activation, and it doesn't lengthen the stun. Some of us just want to be able to use DS at all.
-
I like that this issue suddenly keeps coming up. I'm curious why people are just now noticing that DS's skill check is a broken gatekeeper in a game riddled with performance issues. I'd even be happy with the devs just making the skill check bigger so that the performance issues impact it less. When the skill check is so small, the slightest blip means you're screwed. On console, slight blips are a good day.
I'm disappointed that so far there's been no statement to let people know whether or not this is being looked into.

Them insulting you in chat isn't okay. It's a video game, it doesn't matter how you played, they're in the wrong.
If you're not having fun in a match, you're not required to play it out. You tried a couple different tactics and you didn't enjoy any of it; however, you didn't disconnect but instead let them do gens and escape. You didn't abuse any mechanics. If what they care about is BP, they can search chests, cleanse/boon totems, possibly break hooks, and maybe try to apologize and get you to farm with them (it happens, I've had survivors offer their items as an apology). I think, if they're just outright raging, then they're probably mad that their 4 BPS failed to trick you into letting yourself be tormented. It's a psychological tactic to dangle an incentive and then punish your opponent for any attempts to take advantage of it, so good on you for not falling for it.
Your biggest mistake was thinking that burning BPS is a kindness on their part. It's not. BPS are a curse. I stopped burning those things myself because BPS always lead to the worst matches. My friend's game strangely crashes in the loading screen when anyone burns a BPS, because he just doesn't want to deal with it, and I can't fault him for it.

Good good, just super busy with work (understaffed 😢) and trying to play some games I've neglected. Trying to get through horizon forbidden west! I'm making so little progress xD damn it!
You still running something like bbq, lightborn, beast of prey and distressing?
Ohh love windows of opportunity, even before it's buff. Especially empathy... kinda the underloved brother of bond ha
Sorry to hear about the understaffed thing, that's rough. How's Horizon Forbidden West?
Yup, that's my exact killer build. Sometimes I trade Distressing for Starstruck if I see a lot of body blockers, but that doesn't happen too often.
I prefer Empathy to Bond since it's map wide, it lets me help teammates in need or gives me an idea of where the killer is. If I don't have Empathy I'll use Bond, but then mostly I'm just learning how useless my nearby teammates are... Bond is a depressing perk.
Are you playing the XP event or not bothering since it's not BP? (I'm not bothering.)

Ayo I've been away for a bit between work and burn out/MMR stuff.
Wish it was a double bp event rather than xp....sadge
How you doing? You still running mostly bp builds and playing nemmy? Or did you tweak your builds and change killers.
In terms of survivors, I think I'm gonna run something like prove thyself, wglf, CoH, and FTP..ya know total slave to the bps lmao
I'm good, you? I've been playing Elden Ring instead of DbD since ER released. However, when I return to DbD (because I always do), I'll be playing Nemmy with a BP build when I run as killer. The zombies are fun and I enjoy the tentacle whip; it's the one ranged attack I feel I have decent control with on console (thanks to being able to correct via strafing).
As survivor, I always go with Empathy, WOO, Borrowed Time, and WGLF. More BP is always good.
-
I've enjoyed Overcome when I've used it. I can never manage Sprint Burst, if I try using it I always forget I'm running it because I never run Exhaustion perks, and then it's just a wasted slot.
Realistically speaking, I imagine Sprint Burst would replace DH if DH were nerfed. Overcome has Exhaustion and it requires being healthy, whereas SB only has Exhaustion.
-
Drawbacks as a means of balancing isn't surprising. With add-ons, I think it's often meant to encourage the player to change playstyles.
What I really hate are clunky controls used as a means of balancing. Those really suck the fun out of a killer. There are a lot of killers I just can't enjoy playing (which means I don't play them, doesn't matter how strong they are) because the controls feel so crappy.

There is a report option for farming if I remember correctly.
Farming is bannable in certain situations:
@Mandy said:
Farming is a grey area, it's obviously not something we approve of, but it's not something that's normally reportable. The only time it becomes an issue is if a player is being forced into a farming situation.
@Mandy said:
I'm going to clear up a few misconceptions on this thread.
Technically we don't ban for farming but it's a very grey area - if you are forcing players to farm with you, then yes that's most definitely reportable.
In the instance that the OP reported above, there was nothing that happened in that match that was reportable - it seems like the survivors were happy to farm with the killer, the killer then chose to kill the survivors, nothing wrong with that at all, it's basically the risk you take if you choose to play a farming game.
I personally don't farm in games, if the killer is just wanting to farm I will do the gens and get out because I find it incredibly boring and just want to get onto the next game and I've also never farmed as a killer - if I want to get achievements etc, I play the game normally to get them, even if it's harder...that for me is part of the challenge of playing.
@Mandy said:
This is commonly called "farming" and is a grey area. It's naturally not something that we approve of because we want people to actually play the game. It becomes a bannable offence if you're forcing people to farm with and not allowing players to play the game. Also, if you're working with some of the survivors and killing the others but letting the ones you work with live.
So there's no straight yes/no answer to your question as each report is dealt with on a case-by-case basis, if survivors are feeling forced to farm or you've worked with some survivors against the detriment of the other survivors, yes you can receive punishment.
My advice? Just play the game normally, as a killer you can earn 32k BP in a normal match anyway.
Going by what MandyTalk has said, it really only becomes an issue when the killer forces survivors to farm or punishes survivors for not farming. Then it's reportable under the category of "griefing."

Really? As survivor I see almost nobody DC. I dont think i've seen anyone dc in the past couple of days. Killer is a different story, but I understand that because I play ruthlessly sometimes. And, I am on West Coast.
That's so weird. For me, survivors disconnecting isn't uncommon, but it's really rare to see a killer disconnect. Which statistically speaking makes sense, since there are 4x as many survivors per match.
I'm not sure if I'm on the east coast or west coast server, but either way I'm surprised our experiences are so dissimilar. With the disconnect thing it may be MMR (low MMR is worse on survivors, high MMR is worse on killers), but I'm surprised you see so many farmers and I don't.

Really the only time I see people dc as survivor is mainly the killer dcing. Maybe I am getting lucky with teammates? I would imagine getting people who DC frequently is pretty annoying especially if its cause they got downed first or something.
From my personal experience, yeah, you get super lucky with teammates. Solo queue is always hell for me. Like I said, the disconnect problem isn't as bad as it was before the penalties were implemented (dear lord it was so bad back then, the game was nearly unplayable), but it's never completely gone away. Not in my matches, anyway.

Lucky. My MMR is pretty high, I tend to get very good killers, yet almost a couple farmers every day. Its BHVR's very weird mmr system giving me bipolar matchmaking. Honestly, dont mind pigs doing stuff like that too much either unless theyre sitting in front of a box. Pigs are pretty cute when they do stuff like that, but again its not nearly as consistent as farming so I dont mind much because its funny. Farming is straight up boring. I would get tired of pigs messing around like that if it happened a lot, but it doesnt.
Yeah, matchmaking is borked. My MMR has to be really low, yet I don't see many AFK or farming killers.

Then it wouldn't be a feature. They would remove it. DCing is actually justified in a lot more situations than you explained.
Just to name a few:
Literally any of the ways people like to ruin a normal dbd match. Boom. Thats like 10 reasons in one right there.
Also, bad teammates (because mmr) in a game you are obviously going to lose. 5 gens. everyone is dead on hook, except you who hasnt been hooked once. No chance you live, no reason to draw out a game thats over.
Cheaters
Not all of these apply to survivors either. Killers can also have reasons to dc as well.
I get way more farmers than I do people who dc. Like, way way more farmers.
I get way more farmers than I do people who dc. Like, way way more farmers.
Really? I definitely see disconnects more often than farmers. Even though the DC penalty has drastically lowered the number of disconnects, I still see people ragequit on their first down a few times a week, at least. On the bad nights I'll see a disconnect almost every match.
What region are you?
-
Is this a regional thing or something? I rarely see farmers. I mean, I can go for weeks without seeing a single farming killer.
The only time killers not playing aggressively bothers me is if it prevents me from doing a Tome challenge, but that's a minor thing.
Anyway, "playing correctly" might be overrated. I constantly see people talking about how miserable they are playing killer on these forums. Meanwhile, I've watched my friend have a lot of fun as Piggy, match after match of just pretending to be a survivor working on gens. He especially enjoys roaring constantly. Maybe it's the rest of us who are playing DbD wrong.

Yeah, even though it's only $10, I always feel pressure to play more than I otherwise would so I don't "waste" any of the rift, even if I don't really need to.
One thing I would like to see is banking rift fragments. I mean if you're going to pay for the next rift regardless, is BHVR losing anything by letting us keep those fragments and apply them to the next one? If you don't buy the next one, they also lose nothing, you only earn those rewards if you pay at some point.
And let's be honest, the free rift rewards suck.
I just hate that by finishing up the Tome (you don't even have to max it to have a surplus of fragments) in a timely fashion, you earn a ton of fragments that just disappear.
While banking Rift Fragments would be nice, I can't see them ever allowing it. After all, players can pay to unlock Rift tiers, and that benefits BHVR a lot more than the measly $10 the Rift costs, especially since you can cycle the same $10 through every Rift. (I only paid for the first Rift. After that, I just keep cycling the same Auric Cells because I always get to tier 70. I would not purchase the Rift otherwise.)
This is also why I don't think they'd ever permanently extend the amount of time for which the Rift is open. It greatly benefits them if a lot of people can't complete the Rift and instead pay to unlock tiers.

I would say this is a problem with the game being on platforms which can be so different.
Because on PC, it was really annoying to verse a Legion who failed to hit you 5 times, just to have the 6th hit landing without any penalty at all. It is probably impossible to find a middle ground for that.
Legion went from having no missed-hit cooldown in a Frenzy to being taken out of Frenzy altogether from a missed hit. I don't know why BHVR went immediately from one extreme to the other instead of just having him suffer from a missed-hit cooldown like normal. Since Feral Frenzy has a limited timespan, a cooldown would be plenty punishing.
@SweetTerror said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2915455#Comment_2915455
As much as I like legion, playing on consoles made chaining together frenzy hits really frustrating. It's so much easier to miss a hit on a controller than it is a mouse.
I would really love to see the change made, but I don't think it has.
Yeah, exactly. I whiff once, then I spend the rest of the match trying to make sure I line up the hit perfectly, wasting a lot of time during Frenzy doing so, and it's still possible to whiff because no matter how much time you spend positioning yourself just right the survivor can damn well dodge the poor controller sensitivity. Moving fast is nice and all but the low fps means the killer doesn't get enough information to properly react to a survivor's movements. That's not even taking into account getting screwed by aim dressing; boy oh boy, those trees must've really done me harm in a previous life for how much revenge I get on them now.
-
Does Legion whiffing still take him out of Feral Frenzy? That's always been the thing that made them unplayable for me and a lot of others on console.
I'm glad hemorrhage doesn't affect recovery, though. That would've sucked.

You cant add a casual mode, this splits the community even more. The community is already split to killer/survivor so adding a casual mode will split that into 4 groups. Also anyone can easily jump into a casual mode even the best player and alot of people would.
Iv known this for awhile it's just really bugging me as I'm seeing it pop up alot about real game issues but they dismiss it and act like they arent deranking when they admit it in other comments...
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2913995#Comment_2913995
Playing for hooks isnt deranking. I'll put it in the example you used with true. Let's say true goes for hooks, that's great! Props for him that's the best and hardest playstyle but just because he is doing that doesnt mean he is deranking... however if true suddenly stopped killing people then he is. People are actively making sure they dont get a kill.
It's not about going for hooks, it's about avoid kills at all costs. You dont see true go "oh yes been hooked twice, I wont hook him again or I'll get a kill"
this splits the community even more. The community is already split to killer/survivor so adding a casual mode will split that into 4 groups.
Fair enough, but it means balance discussions will always be imbalanced for this exact reason. Everyone wants changes that suit their playstyle.
Also anyone can easily jump into a casual mode even the best player and alot of people would.
Casual mode would have to go beyond name only and actually enforce a different ruleset that removes the ability to play efficiently and kind of disables the standard version of winning so it wouldn't appeal to those who actually want to play to win. It would be nice to have, but it would be a lot of work for BHVR, and will never happen, so it's not really worth going into. But a true and desirable casual mode would not simply disable BP gains, which (going by the most recent survey) is what BHVR seems to be considering. If that's what they do, even I wouldn't play it, as it would be the exact same if not worse than normal mode just without the BP reward.
it's just really bugging me as I'm seeing it pop up alot about real game issues but they dismiss it and act like they arent deranking when they admit it in other comments...
Some people may be outright lying, but for others it may be a semantics issue. Some people actually don't enjoy taking other people permanently out of the game, which is what killing does. Though avoiding killing means their MMR stays low, they don't play for the specific purpose of deranking: it's just a side effect. (Not trying to make an argument of this or anything. It's just an observation that some people are not intentionally attempting to deceive. Anyone deceiving on purpose is not cool.)
Also, some people go back and forth, sometimes playing casually at a low MMR and sometimes playing hardcore at a high MMR, so when they're discussing balance issues they're probably talking about when they're playing to win at high MMR, but if you don't know that for sure then it muddies the issue. No one knows what their MMR actually is, nor the MMR of their opponents, which only makes balance discussions more difficult.
-
Is it even possible to casually play this game?
I mean... eh. Kinda sorta sometimes. Like everything else, it's RNG. If the players you're up against are also playing casually (or are unskilled), then yes. If they players you're going up against are really good and focused on winning, then no, not really, not unless they notice you're playing casually and adjust their playstyle to match.

I dont believe they have any opinion, if youre a skillful player you should verse skillful people. If you're skillful and verse weaker people your opinion is going to be very misleading as you're against people you shouldn't be.
Not to mention the people on the other hand who are versing someone who has deranked, they are obviously gonna get the wrong impressions as well because they're versing someone they shouldn't
It just ruins the whole system and twists feedback.
Don't take this the wrong way but... how are you only just now noticing this?
The forums have always been this way. Someone who says they only ever play survivor plays 5 games of killer and says it's sooooo easy, why do killers always complain? Someone who only plays as a 4-stack says all the people complaining about survivor are just plain wrong... even though they never play solo. (I remember some people rudely saying that the 3-man lobby glitch didn't exist... while also stating they never played outside a 4-man SWF. ####ing hell, people.)
Everyone's biased. Nothing on these forums can be taken at face value. People's opinions are just that: opinions.
It just ruins the whole system and twists feedback.
You make this sound like this is the fault of the players. It's not. Players have been asking for a casual mode since time immemorial. There's only one mode, meaning all different playstyles have to play together. That's the only option BHVR has given them. So people who want to play competitively are put with people who want to play casually are put with people who want to meme around and practically play a different game altogether. People who play to win are put with people who play for BP are put with people who are doing a Daily/Tome challenge. People who are trying out something new are put with people who are playing at their best.
Sucks for all of us. And it's why people are so often saying, "BHVR doesn't listen to us!" Well, BHVR does listen, they just don't necessarily act on it because player feedback is inherently flawed.

Although I'm not just embarrased about how many hours I have put into it, but also how my devotion level would suggest I should be quite a lot better than I am.
Exactly! I'm terrible for the Devotion level I'm at. I'm so glad the people I play against can't see it. lol
-
Yeah, of course they do this when there's no Rift.
I don't think they've ever done double XP before. I'm already embarrassed about my Devotion level, I don't want to inflate it with a 2x event if there's not even a Rift to work on.
-
I hate going through the trouble of trying to pip up. When I was bothering to reach iri 1, I was only doing it for the BP reward and I wasn't having fun. The moment I reached it, I went back to playing as normal (which means screwing around, I really don't care beyond getting a BBQ 4-stack and sometimes I'm too lazy even for that).
After a couple months of reaching iri 1, though, I realized the BP reward isn't worth the hassle. Being able to de-pip stressed me out too much, it took away any enjoyment I could have during the process because pipping didn't feel rewarding, it just felt like a momentary relief.
-
The survivors body blocking you can get in the way of dropping a survivor. Environmental objects can also block you from dropping.
It sucks. Survivors can stand over a downed survivor to revive them, so I don't understand why the killer is prevented from dropping the survivor on the ground below them. It's frustrating. If survivors have shown that they're in the mood to body block, it's best to try to bait them out as much as possible by pretending like you're going to pick someone up. Or pick someone up, watch for the survivors to start bum rushing you, then drop the survivor before the others can get into position and go after them. Trying to drop someone once others are already body blocking is pain.

Imagine thinking 99 gates is fair, it only benefits survivors and make all endgame perks useless. You say survivor can’t open a 99 gate if their injured or killer chasing you. Killer have so many slow and robot like animations that you can just spin and juke the killer or dead hard and still have enough time to instant open the 99 gate and leave while the killer is on stupid cooldown just staring at their weapon.
99 gates are not fun and it is survivor sided. Should only be 1 gate tbh. It’s so easy winning as solo survivor, you just slap on spinechill iron will and hide near the gate all game, 99 the gate, watch the killer look around because the red light is flashing, he can’t find you because you in a dark corner crouching. He leaves and you escape ez gg killer just bad and 99 gates take skill
I hate when my teammates 99% the exit gate. It gets me killed almost every damn time because they rescue me, don't have BT, don't stay at the door... solo queue is hell. You'd think killers would love that survivors are their own worst enemies and practically kill each other.

These days I always take a screenshot to keep track of my Rift completion. I do it so I have proof in case BHVR loses my progress or something. Even if they had a way for you to look at your past Rift completion, I wouldn't trust it. According to posts on the forums, people have lost auric cell purchases and event rewards and BHVR told them they had no records of the person having ever owned those things. Take your own screenshots or videos for peace of mind.
-
Yes, yes, we all hate each other. No one is happy. Survivors have a rulebook for killers. Killers have a rulebook for survivors. And survivors have a rulebook for other survivors.
In a lobby full of randoms, no matter who you're playing as, the other four people in the match think you're doing it wrong.

Back before DC penalties, it was really common to see players disconnect. Like, really. Survivors would disconnect and then message me, taunting that they dc'd before I could hook them. As survivor, it was super fun that one disconnect often led to a second disconnect. That nonsense constantly ruined matches. Sometimes DbD felt literally unplayable due to how rampant the disconnects were. The number of people who suicide or throw, now, does not equal out to the number who disconnected before the penalties.
I've never been one to disconnect from matches, not even before the penalties.
-
DbD is the only multiplayer game I play. I think I like the idea of the killer powers more than I like the actual gameplay, but I stick around because... I dunno, really.
Other games I play are Elden Ring, Dying Light, and DOAXVV. Games I completed not too long ago are OMORI, The Evil Within, and Catherine. Played Animal Crossing: New Horizons a crapton, too. I recently bought Bloodborne and look forward to playing that soon. I used to play Battlefront II, which was the only other multiplayer game I've played since Phantasy Star Online (on Dreamcast), but I specifically only liked Extraction mode and that never got new maps and then it was practically removed from the game. I still miss Extraction mode; it was awesome.

I'd like to think they're still cooking something up for facecamping.
I believe the devs when they say they're working on it.
However, from my perspective, nothing is a certainty in this game until it actually goes live, and even then there's no guarantee of permanence.
Damn I'd love some real changes over band-aid fixes, though. Perks never should have been their way of dealing with core issues.

The worst part about it for me is not only did I get robbed of the hit, but then my camera is pulled in a direction I was not intending to aim and I get so lost in the recovery of the "assisted" swing lol.
The problem is, that change in direction and pull of the camera is not meant to help you. According to BHVR, that "aim dressing" is for the explicit purpose of improving the way the animation looks. It's there so that, when the killer does hit a survivor, the animation matches said hit.
Aim "assist" makes it sound like the system will help you get hits you shouldn't. It won't. This nonsense will only ever rob killers of hits they should have gotten. And we can't turn it off because it's not for our benefit: it's so that, when a survivor does get hit, it looks somewhat like a proper hit on their side. (And yet we still see so many videos of "that shouldn't have hit!" from survivors. Why the hell is this still a thing?)
I'm curious to know if this affects M+KB as much as controller. I've punished many trees while playing, and whenever there's more than one survivor it always strikes the one I didn't carefully adjust my aim to hit, so I'd like to know if we're all suffering equally.

Consoles need optimization, yes, but that doesn't mean removing the DS Skill-Check because the devs are too lazy to fix consoles
The devs seem unable to fix it for consoles. Even if consoles get optimization, it's probably mostly going towards PS and Xbox. Switch is run at a different graphics setting, so it's framerate is probably never going to improve or get smoother.
It is taking them a very, very long time to optimize for consoles. Meanwhile, it would be easy to increase the size of the DS skill check to not be so ridiculously small. The skill check being small is a relic of original DS, when it activated for the simple act of losing a chase. Then it was changed to only proc after being unhooked, and the skill check became a bit less necessary. Now, this one-time-use perk has so many restrictions on proc'ing that the difficult skill check is just excessive, and it prevents a lot of the console playerbase from being able to use it.
-
@ThatOneDemoPlayer said:
We've reached a point where we can't even hit a Skill-Check. Wow
The fps/input latency on Switch has more variance than the size of the skill check. In other words, there is no way to consistently hit the DS skill check. No amount of skill can help when the timing changes and the success area lasts for one, maybe two frames. Skill is not involved; it's RNG.

the QTE of DS, which is easy to fail due to network decision or similar reasons.
I agree, the skill check is way too small. I've been posting about that for a long time. It's especially bad on console, with the low fps, input latency, and frame drops/freezes.

1 - You act like you cannot practice hitting greats on gens for some reason, very weird argument.
2- Then you change the conversation to game optimization (which sucks balls, yes) but has nothing to do with DS mechanic. If your game is freezing and stuttering as much as you say, having a "free ds" won't help much anyway.
The thing about practicing was mostly sarcasm, because people keep saying it's a skill issue. (Well, I would have fun going into matches as a 4-man and then we all demand to be hooked for matches that last about 10 seconds each time, but that's because I have a weird sense of humor.) But see, the thing is, on console it's a combination of input latency and fps, made more difficult by the random frame drops. There's no amount of skill that will help when the Switch is running at an inconsistent 15 fps. Input latency is tied to fps, and the fps is inconsistent, so there's nothing the player can do, each time they get the DS skill check the timing isn't the same.
A larger skill check at least would help. Right now, there's about one, maybe two frames during which that skill check can be hit, and that's an issue when the framerate isn't consistent and there's input latency. BHVR ported the game to console without actually making sure all the elements transferred over properly.

Yup, my friend played one survivor match today (I dunno why the hell he did that to himself, but whatever) and the first person downed disconnected. They all died, and my friend didn't bother to play another match after.

people are not enjoying playing Killer or are trying to lower their MMR?
If people are trying to lower their MMR, then they're probably not having fun playing killer, so it's pretty much the same problem either way. If they play for a few minutes and then go AFK, they've probably had a lot of bad matches in a row and whatever the straw was that broke the camel's back could be very minor, like the killer had a few frames drop, lost track of the survivor in the chase, and said, "Screw it, I can't take it anymore."

Retire Nurse.
Not because I hate her as a survivor. I actually have fun during a lot of Nurse matches, she's different to play against. It's because she sucks ass to play as on console, and I'm bitter about it.

Because it’s not meant to prevent it, because that would be busted. Tunneling is a strategy with pros and cons that can be punished via smart play from the survivors. DS is a perk meant to discourage reckless tunneling by giving a large time window with which good survivors can make a ton of progress.
DS is a perk meant to discourage reckless tunneling by giving a large time window with which good survivors can make a ton of progress
DS only lasts for 60 seconds, and the survivor who got unhooked only has DS as long as they don't touch a gen, totem, or heal/unhook action. The moment that survivor does anything to progress the match, they become hookable. If a survivor gets to use DS, either they were being tunneled off the hook with no chance to get away, or the survivor hung out on the map doing #### all for 50+ seconds waiting for a chance to use their perk and doing nothing to progress the match or help their team.
I can't remember the last time I saw a killer slug someone to wait out DS, either. After all the changes made to DS, most killers realized that a 5-second stun means very little. Either the survivor isn't skilled enough to use their second chance to make it to a safe loop, or the survivor is now free to be tunneled out next time they're out of zone.
DS is useful for when your ####### teammates farm you off the hook instead of taking aggro, making a safe hook save, or at least bringing BT. So, for me, like 99% of my games DS would be really nice if I could actually use it. Maybe I'd make it to a safe zone, maybe I wouldn't, but damn I'm sick of being at the mercy of teammates who just want an extra 1k BP before hiding in a bush again. DS certainly isn't good enough to justify such a tiny skill check, though. It's once per match, and making any progress whatsoever deactivates it. Which is good, that's how it should be, survivors shouldn't be invincible while working on a gen or making an unhook (god I hated those days), but since DS is no longer the perk it was originally released as, it doesn't need the tiny skill check that prevents new players and a large percentage of the console playerbase from using it.
When I play survivor, I actually see very few people running DS, because most of my random teammates happen to also be console. Which is sad, because killers will absolutely tunnel the crap out of a survivor they realize is a console player. (It's not about the globe icons or anything. I've been told that PC killers can tell the difference due to the way a survivor moves during a chase.) As a Switch player I can tell if I'm against a Switch killer because they will go through hell and high water to attempt to tunnel me out. They often fail, though, because killer is that bad on Switch, but they do still try.

Camping, tunnels, quick repairs.
These three situations are things that destroy the game experience and the environment.
The only human skill that can prevent camping and tunnels, Decisive_Strike, can only be used to prevent camping and tunnels, but it has a high chance of failure.
Are you serious.
These three problems must be properly resolved immediately.
If this game wants people to play.
DS doesn't help with camping. Kinship helps with camping, and Borrowed Time to an extent. DS gives survivors a second chance if they're being tunneled and/or their teammates are useless.
Technically, there's nothing in the game that "prevents" camping or tunneling, as those are considered legitimate tactics by the developers.
Unfortunately, the developers have also designed the game in such a way that killers are required to run generator perks to slow down gen repair. The game is balanced around it.

Is DH a good perk? I've used it as a Survivor and played as a Killer against teams using it but I've never seen the benefit to it. The speed burst and hit immunity only gets you one miss before you get exhausted and the killer swings again. Basically, the perk grants you a two step lead from the killer before they close the gap and drop you immediately after. Unless DH means something other than Dead Hard. Personally, I think Balanced Landing is a much better perk as you receive a 3-second speed burst that at least puts some distance from the killer.
DH used to simply dodge a hit is bad. DH used for distance, to reach a pallet or vault, is a huge pain in the ass for the killer. There's no counter to it, and it can greatly extend the chase.

All the perks giving second chances yes.
Why do you need DS ? Don't want to be hooked again after the unhook, ask your teammate to help.
Teammates? Help?
hahahahahahahaha
The match where I don't end up with three teammates crouching around doing nothing but hiding in bushes is the match I talk reverentially about for the rest of the week.

Rework and declutter.
-
When I play survivor, I want the option to have bots as teammates.

Until something is actually live and implemented in the game, then I consider the chance of it happening to be zero.
That is what I have learned from BHVR over the years. Expect nothing, not even things that are promised with a specific date. So, even if BHVR tomorrow said "Grind changes before the end of the year!" I wouldn't get my hopes up, not until it went live.
-
I go back and forth between sides, so it probably evens out to about 50/50.
I play on console, so I don't know the exact number of hours. I'm Devotion 22 on PS4 and I think I'm Devotion 4 on Switch.

When I go into a match with the name "DSPractice" I expect all you guys to actually let me practice the damn skill check since that is what so many are saying I need to do. I'll stand under the hook and just wait to be hooked repeatedly so I can practice. Sucks I can only practice once per match at most, but thankfully as a survivor I can die quickly and move on to the next practice match.
Anyone else need to practice? We could create a 4-man group, and all 4 of us will go up to a hook and just point at it. That would actually be awesome. Just know that I don't have comms.
Honestly, I don't know how practicing will suddenly stop the game from freezing up whenever anything happens, but according to half this thread apparently console performance problems are a "skill issue," so I can only assume that if I practice enough on the Switch then the game will stop freezing and dropping frames. Hey, will practice making the performance issues better as survivor transfer over to killer, too? Killer is literally unplayable on Switch. I can get to iri 1 in a week as killer on PS4 but I can't get out of ash in a month on Switch.

No, the skill check is to have some gameplay in what should be a survivor hooking and the most integral part of killer gameplay. Just like Boilover and the wiggle meter requires skill checks so too does Decisive Strike.
There is no entitlement to a free, easy, or safe escape from the hook. It doesn't matter whether you are camped or tunneled. If you were entitled to that you would simply respawn somewhere randomly on the map after being hooked nor would there be a sacrifice timer.
A culture in DBD developed that demands the first hook to be without threat from an assumption that because you can be hooked 3 times before sacrifice means you have an entitlement to three hooks. You do not have that entitlement.
The devs could keep the skill check but just make it bigger so that 1. new players have a better chance of hitting it, and 2. input lag, low fps, and frame drops don't have such a perk-nullifying impact for the console playerbase.

Good to know re DLC. I remember there was an announcement that Switch cross progression was originally on the cards but then it was updated that it was delayed and there's no ETA. I can't remember if it was dev confirmed or just speculation sorry, but people were saying the licensing was causing the issue. Again, not sure how true that was. It'd be great to have my DLC transfer should cross progression be back on the cards
The official statement (taken from https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/305-f-a-q-cross-progression) is:
Due to technical aspects beyond our control, transferring DLC between all platforms has not been possible, significantly impacting that experience. As a result, while we remain dedicated to doing everything we can to resolve the issue, we can no longer provide a clear ETA on when cross-progression will be available on Switch
Whether that refers to licensing or something else is unknown, as "technical issues" could be vague-PR-speak for nearly anything. As far as I know, no dev has said anything beyond that.

I'm in the same boat. I don't have hours available to me to play, and I started on the Switch, so the thought of putting all that time and grind into another console is hard. If the grind wasnt so rough then i'd probably consider it but it is what it is. I have a PS5 that I'd love to play dbd on but I'm patiently waiting and hoping for cross progression. If it's because of Nintendo pushing back, well I can honestly say I wouldn't abandon the Switch because having handheld available is still convenient even if the graphics are poor. Plus I have the ST chapter on Switch, and I imagine licenses wouldn't be part of cross progression.
I'll quit the game before I start a fresh account on PC. I have too much progress and DLC on the Switch.
It has been said in the past that all DLC is supposed to transfer with cross-progression. There's even a thread where someone specifically contacted BHVR about the Stranger Things chapter: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/275028/crossprog-and-stranger-things-question
Unfortunately, as much as I'd love for it to happen, I'm not holding my breath for Switch cross-progression.

Bad scourge hook placement can mean a killer never even gets use out of a scourge hook perk. Scourge hooks encourage killers to go farther to get to the hook they want, and that gives the survivors more chances at wiggling free or getting a save. You can also let go of the gen before the killer hooks the person to counter some of the effects.

I prefer the log-in rewards. BHVR gets their boosted player numbers, I get rewards, and I don't actually have to play DbD. I'm quite happy not playing DbD right now.
