So, not reading one mind, but everyone's mind.
Got it.
At this point, I'm just here because watching these mental gymnastics is hilarious. You're either a comedian or the most disingenuous person I've ever seen. I'm choosing to go with the former because, again, hilarious.
At this point, just re read this conversation thread.
Lol. Dude. You're trying WAY too hard. I can't speak for one person's mind, but I can speak to the general sentiment of the community. I know… I was there.

Interesting.
Though now I feel obligated to say:
Nobody knows what was going through this guy's head. So you trying to say that you know what he was thinking is messed up.
See what I did there?
I never claimed to know what was going through this guy's head. I said that that's why so many people resorted to 3 genning

Not to mention WGLF giving everyone Endurance.

So this non sequitur is exhausting.
This was meta. I'd like to hear why you think nearly everyone who played killer adopted this strategy.
Especially since this strategy involves:
- Not committing to chase
- Not downing survivors
- Not leaving a 3 gen
- Kicking gens until an hour passes and the game awards you a win by default.
Those are the facts.
Because Circle of Healing meant that every chase was against a healthy survivor. M1 killers had their hits healed faster than they could reasonably deal them.

This isn't a random game.
The killer was a streamer who challenged them and they played a custom match.
The mentality here doesn't matter, because you don't know what anyone else is thinking either. You keep bringing this up, but it doesn't prove or disprove anything. Fixating on it is meaningless because neither of us is psychic.
(Or maybe I am psychic, and i know for a fact you can't know what I'm thinking because you aren't. You can't disprove that either)
The only thing that matters here is the action, and, as I said before, people did this relentlessly, every match for almost a year, until it was finally patched out after several attempts to get people to stop.
This isn't PVP, or chase. This was simply abusing overpowered perks and flawed game design for trivially easy wins. The fact that it was frustrating to the survivors was a huge bonus for a lot of killers as well.
Exactly! Nobody knows what was going through this guy's head. So you trying to say that you know what he was thinking is messed up.

That picture also shows a 20k drop in four days. I'm not saying DbD is dying but an artificially high player count doesn't prove anything.
Right? It's a huge license on a free weekend. Let's see what it looks like after the anniversary and people are sick of Animatronic teleporting right on top of them with no warning.

Here's a link to the infamous "chess merchant" thread.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/384292/we-need-to-talk-about-skull-merchant
This player was one of many in this meta that used this strategy.
Here's a video link showcasing that game. This is one of the best comp teams in the world being held hostage by some random, average killer player. No attempt to down, commit to chase, the only thing that matters was holding a 3 gen and then letting the match expire after an hour.
This was the "3 gen meta", where killers would just hold gens the entire match and not leave the 3 gen, not even down people, because they just won because the perks were overpowered. And this was meta.
I took a break from the game for a year because of this "strategy" of people playing "gen kick simulator". And they did it because it made the game PVE (with the extra bonus of getting to defeat actual players) and took basically zero skill.
It took several rounds of perk nerfs, a killer rework, and even then the only thing that stopped people doing it was the addition of the regression limit.
There's no defending this.
So… you have no idea what was going through this random average player's head.
What I also want to know is what "the best team in the world" was doing playing against some "random average player." Shouldn't they be off in some ridiculous MMR getting slapped by a p100 Blight?
If anything, this shows how absolutely absurd matchmaking is in this game. Average players shouldn't get matched up with comp teams. If that means that the comp team has to sit in matchmaking for an hour until Lilith Omen or a comp Nurse comes available, then so be it.

if they can be abused and overpower a sac ward if there are 4 of the same then instead of making map offerings 20% why can't they just remove the overrule feature on sac wards and make it so they can't be overruled then anyone, im sure like urself who doesn't like when people send to specific maps can put one on. I don't see why everyone is being punished for some swfs who spam send to another map.
Because I shouldn't be forced to run a sac ward every game to avoid getting sent to some crap map. I like BP, too.

If they don't care about MMR but they care about winning then just change the win condition to something like 7 hooks. Fixed.
And about tea-baggin, you can't solve it. Just like killers humping. These people are inherently toxic and nothing could stop them from being that way. It's their character. You can stop them from doing it… by killing them. If you 4k, you don't get bagged at the gates.

Incentivize hooks over kills and base the MMR system on hook numbers.
A "hook penalty" for hooking the same person twice in a row with no one else hooked yet could work. Add a repair progress speed bonus for other survivors for example.
I also strongly believe that gen time should be dependent on killers. Nurse = faster gens, Trapper = longer gens. This would probably help too, to a certain extent.Nobody cares about MMR. It's an invisible number. Tying MMR to hooks won't change anything. People care about winning. They care about earning BP. And they care about not getting bagged at the gates. That's what they care about.

No, we're talking about the period of time where 3-gens were so ironclad that a guy with zero skill managed to lock one of the best survivor teams in the world into a match lasting 49 minutes. This specific tactic's goal was not to buy time for a chance to win the game, it was specifically to run out the clock and get the win for hitting the 60 minute mark.
BS. I've ran that same tactic, and the goal was always to down survivors and clinch the W.

But that wouldn't change the underlying problem, it's still a battle against the clock. If I want to gain an advantage or recover from an unfavorable start, I resort to tunneling.
Nowdays I clearly enjoy the most those matches against 4 trolls who try to laugh at the killer but don't repair. I deal a lot of hits, they have some laughs trying to pull their stuff and everyone is happy whoever wins.
See, I hate those matches. Different strokes, I guess.

Sure, you're supposed to be the victim. But both roles make things happen to the other side. That's why people are complaining about bully SWFs. But a player shouldn't be able to force you into spectate mode for most of the game just because it's the "easier way to win".
If you go back a bit on this thread, you'll see that I'm a Legion main with +70% KR…Then what is your solution?

Honestly, this.
I think I've finally hit a breakthrough where I've finally learned some game sense. It also helps that I swapped from C tier killers to A tier ones, put on some shaders, and fixed my audio.

@CLHL said:
Even with nerfs to the repair speed, as long as the objective is a battle against the clock, the situation will not change.
It's about time to start thinking about removing generators from the game, they are not fun and never were. Performing skillchecks is a pitiful gameplay and totally lacking in interaction. I don't know what other objective could be introduced, but the current one has clearly lasted longer than it should.
I think that making generators be fueled as well as repaired would go a long way. Make it take 60 charges of repair and 30 charges of fuel to finish a gen. Put the "fuel pump" right smack dab in the middle of the map. It would force survivors to be more interactive with the killer, as well, by making a high value area right in the middle of the map. It would also slow down generators without adding in a bunch of "hold m1" time.

@DevLinky said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948857#Comment_3948857
No, survivors are complaining because some get tunneled and spend MOST of the game on hook, which is just uninteractive. Dbd's already full of "watching bars getting filled" hence why a lot of survs ignore gens. But if you tunnel someone? They get to experience even less gameplay.
So no, people do not complain that they get hooked. They complain that they get targeted and spend MOST of their game in spectate mode. Nuance.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948858#Comment_3948858
Please, define a "fair" way to play survivor. Because I really can not grasp this concept. If you mean not tea-bagging, not spamming Head-On/flashbangs and blablabla, then sure, survivors should not get into a game with the sole intention of bullying the killer. But realistically, these are a tiny portion of games played, and most of the time, they're free wins because the survs aren't even touching gens.
Whereas a not so nice way to play killer doesn't give a free win to survs. Quite the opposite. That's part of it, though. Like I said, survivor is the role that things "happen to," instead of the role that "makes things happen." Again, if you want a proactive role where you're always acting, then try out killer. It's a lot of fun.

going for hard tunnel just to have a guaranteed win is a stupid move. Why play the game if you are scared of the challenge?
IK RNG sometimes can be harsh, sometimes survivours play so cocky that u want to uninstall the game. But Hard tunneling like that feels like cheating. yes u get 4k but its so… cheap?
I honestly prefer to get 8 hooks with 4 escapes rather than killing all because of first minute of the match, but thats just preferanceYou know what you get for playing "fair" and 8 hooking while 'playing well?' Tbags at the gate. It doesn't matter how nicely you play, or how stringently you follow the survivor rulebook. If you lose, it will absolutely be rubbed in your face every single time.

No, when on hook, you do "spectate" the game.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948850#Comment_3948850
Yes, it is. And I would like you to point to the comment where I said it was only important for one side. People lack what we call "NUANCE" and think things are either black or white. Guess what? I play both roles! I'll defend what needs to be defended on either side.
Wait, are survivors complaining about being on hook now? Are we not even allowed to hook anymore?
That's just… part of the game. Survivor has long periods of down time, whether that means working a gen, getting slugged for pressure, or getting hooked. That's part and parcel. If you want to always be doing something and have the ability to always see a match out to its conclusion, then there's a role that will let you do that.
-
@DevLinky said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948718#Comment_3948718
The fact that one side has to SPECTATE (a kinda complicated word, I know) the game is the big difference that you would realise if you played both sides, my friend. But no, instead you only stick to one role and think you know everything.
You only have to spectate if you're running a swf. If that's the case, then that is literally the cost of running a swf. You get basically every info perk in the game for free, but sometimes you have to sit and watch your buddies finish out a match.

Theres alot more to it than that. What if they don't know if they have no choice or not but to tunnel? Cus thats how I think. Atp killers are scared of gen speeds and have no idea what survivors will run to end the game asap. If gen rushing gets nerfed, then tunneling can go, but otherwise killers need to tunnel against any competent team of opponents if they want a chance to win
I don't know about that. In the last few days alone, I have a 90% win rate with an 85% kill rate. My only losses were against a good group that got gens done quickly while I was playing a memey Obsession build, and a group that had at least one "subtle" hacker (which I don't really count.)
Then again, I'm using Spirit. Would probably be a lot worse if I was playing, say… Knight.

That is a different thing though, I go extremely out of my way to not tunnel as killer and if you get unhooked in front of me I will go out of my way to let you get away. However if you force me to eat the BT hit (endgame is a bit different) then I assume you would like me to tunnel you and I have no problem with killers doing so in that case. But we all know this scenario is not what people are complaining about
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948187#Comment_3948187
Yes, of course they will complain about hard tunnelling and understandably so, I already implied that. Survivors have always complained about it but it does seem to be getting worse and if the majority of the player base/paying customers (survivors) is having their experience ruined consistently by hard tunnelling killers, they will complain and it will force the devs hands.
You can get bad at me but I am just the messenger here; killers/streamers/content creators encouraging and promoting constant tunnelling will force extreme anti tunnel base kit mechanics into the game. Simple as that.
But survivors call everything tunneling. I was just accused of tunneling in my last match. The first survivor died on hook 6, and I hooked people in between all of his hooks. However, gens started getting done, and I had the chance to take him out of the game and I took it instead of going after the Meg that was trying to get my attention. "Tunneling."
Not only that, but if I've downed and hooked someone else since I've hooked you, you're fair game. I don't care if you only just got off hook because your buddies took their sweet time to unhook you.

Only difference is you can use medkit now to get 1/2 heals faster. You can also use street wise and built to last for even more
but sounds like a lot of resources to use, where outcome is not really better what you can do already with different builds.
Is it strong? Yes
Is it broken level strong? Not in my opinionI agree. I don't have a problem with the Botany buff. I prefer running Self Care + Botany because it's so consistent and lets me bring a medkit with max heal speed to heal teammates instead of myself.

The point is that the killer is the one responsible for creating the stalemate in the first place. They opted for this particular strategy with the full and express intent to make it a 60 minute stalemate. You can't then accuse the survivors of sharing the blame when all they can do is react to that decision.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948809#Comment_3948809
The stalemate happened specifically because it was the killer's express intent to make it happen. Blaming the survivors is basically telling them that they should've just taken the loss instead, when the killer had other options.
So you're saying that if the killer had the chance to down the survivors and get a 4k, they wouldn't have taken it? I don't believe you. Their strategy was slowing down the game in order to give her time to win the game, not hit the time limit.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3948782#Comment_3948782
No, because the killer has a chance, the survivors did not. Even if they did commit to the generators, they'd just be pulled off of them and they'd instantly lose.
The killer was playing overly cautious, the survivors were taking their only possible option.
Hard disagree. If either side had committed, it was a guaranteed loss for them. Why should the killer be the one to fall on their sword? Both sides were waiting for the other to make a mistake. The survivors won in the end, anyways.

The QoL changes of this patch were targeting survivors, they were designed to stop people going next. But you're forgetting that soon there will be new, anti-tunnel, anti-camp and anti-slug changes coming. Its a year long initiative of QoL changes, this one was targeted at survivors, soon enough killers will be in your exact spot. This is just you falling into tribalism, plain and simple.
I kind of agree. If the anti-tunnel/camp/slug changes are as big as the anti-quit, then it'll be an interesting year for DBD.

Because on Killers that only M1, Mangled/Haemorrhage can produce consistent value when you hit & run, which a lot of M1 Killers do anyway, whether they have a Power that lends itself to that playstyle like Wraith/Sadako/Hag/any stealth Killer or they need to drop chases sometimes like Trapper.
I will say that they are far from universally useless, but if they do help it's rare that you realize it unless you are going full into the hit & run, and it really depends on Killer selection. If we don't get universal Mangled back I hope they at least vary the durations more in future so addons that need it can get a duration buff.
I guess I'm biased because I've been playing a lot of Spirit and it's absolutely amazing on her.

im not sure what makes u think I like garden of joy and eyrie but you do you, it makes map offerings worthless after millions of bps going on them. just bc some bully squads abused them and killers abused them to fit their play styles doesn't mean they should be nerfed to the point where they're unusable. also my fav map is dead dawg (which is good on both killer and survivor fyi) but I don't ever get that map anymore.
The problem is that they CAN be abused. As a killer, pretty much every match had a map offering, and most of them were to the most survivor sided maps in the game.

I'm torn. Asymmetrical horror games as a genre are always doomed to fail because they just don't work. DBD has avoided that fate for nearly a decade because it adopted the same formula Fortnite uses, which is to get as many IPs under its belt as possible. However, BHVR's track record is far from glowing. They've proven time and time again that they don't know how to balance or maintain live service games and DBD is no exception. But any time they've tanked, all they've had to do is pull a big license.
Eh. DBD has a very devoted fanbase, especially amongst survivors. A lot of survivor players ONLY play survivor, and ONLY play DBD. Until/unless there is actual competition from a competent dev team that can recreate DBD with better mechanics and licenses, DBD will never truly die.

This patch may kill this game for some survivors. Many matches I see survs running to the new killer just to get out of the match faster. Almost unplayable for anyone who actually tries when teammates opt out at the earliest opportunity. I'll still give it a try against our mechanical bunny friend but the fun factor is non existent when almost every match is against him. Interesting character though.
I agree. It doesn't help that he's not really fun to play against. His entire playstyle is silently going through the doors, getting a free hatchet hit, then going for the grab.

Because if you were really concerned with playing fair for both sides, then why aren't you also announcing that you play survivors in a way that is "fair" for killers? Why are you only concerned with announcing that you play fair for survivors?
For the fake internet points. That's all this thread is. It's virtue signaling so that they can get head pats from the mostly survivor playerbase on the forums.

So you find it impossible to enjoy the game outside of Eyrie of Crows or Garden of Joy?
Map offerings were nerfed because survivors abused them. Every game, the killer would be sent to the same three miserable maps over and over again. Not only did it make the game stale, but it sucked to be sent to Badham… again. And again. And again.

Im not saying there is not cheaters, because there are and i hate them, but what you describe is absolutely doable with no cheats, it takes 90 secs to solo a gen, this is with out toolboxes, perks or great skill checks, - this leaves 30 seconds to find a gen (if we look at the 2 mins (120 secs) mark. now with great skill checks, and perks the gens is done faster and if the have sprint burst they might also get to the gens even faster.
Yeah, but I also pushed them off gens during that first chase. And injured another person who got healed. I'm telling you, there's no way for them to have done the gens that fast, especially not on Solo Q.

If that scenario happens then you can down the survivor and his ds has the 30s timer, meaning that you can still slug. The main point of that is to encourage people to not give up while being tunneled but save time for the team for the price of being out soon.
So… the survivor gets to use their basekit BT/DS as an offensive weapon that stops you from chasing someone else, and the only punishment they get is getting slugged? And you somehow think this is fair and balanced?
What's the killer supposed to do? 30 seconds is too long to just stand there and wait it out, but if you leave, he's getting picked back up and healed. So the killer was unable to chase the survivor he wanted to chase, and is unable to get any real pressure off of the survivor that used his basekit anti-tunnel offensively. And you think that sounds fair and balanced?
-
Old Eruption. I know it's going to be an unpopular choice, but knocking a survivor off a gen for 20 seconds was often game clutching.

Killswitch the latest released killer?! What do you want? You want them to prioritize people who already own the game instead of potential customers? How dare you!
On a more serious note, this would really hurt the company. Really bad. Especially knowing that this chapter allowed them to break their player count record. All these newly acquired players would probably just stop playing the game if the character they bought the game for was unavailable. The vast majority of new players aren't sticking around anyways. The amount of hours and money that you need to spend to unlock all the perks alone is staggering. Some of them will stick around until they hit the MMR wall and start getting decent/good survivors.

Yes, you can always blame the killer for tunneling. That's not even an argument. It's a video game, made for enjoyment and having fun. One person no matter how bad being singled out of a game immediately removes any semblance of fun for that person, there is 20% of the enjoyment for that match being removed from it nearly instantly. 90% of games you can easily figure out exactly how a killer is going to be as well, see someone being a little too hesitant to walk across the map? You're likely getting tunneled and killed immediately, might as well go next, not like you will be playing much anyway.
So… let me get this straight.
In a PvP game, you want one player to throw the match and ignore the only enemy they can see in favor of… blindly wandering around and trying to find someone else?

just make it so killer takes priority over chest. like, come on BHVR, its not a hard fix. just do whatever you need to do to fix this.

I agree, he really invites toxic gameplay like camping and tunneling. I've played the last few days 8/10 games against him and more and more springtraps are camping the hooks with that door. They hook someone, go in the door and wait for someone to unhook to exit the door and start tunneling. It's so frustrating and results only in players not go to save someone from hook.
Also the fact that these doors are often placed right next to a gen is horrible too. He comes out invisible and grabs someone from the gen. Sorry but what are you supposed to do against that, especially when audio is bugged and sometimes the doors are facing a different direction to the gen. You can't tell until it's too late. I wonder why they don't deactivate him until he is fixed. Houndmaster was not playable for several days when they found a bug.
All in all he definitely needs a nerf regarding the doors or they do something about anti tunneling and anti camping asap because it's no fun to play right now. :(
They had a bug where Knight could summon multiple guards at once, but could only be done at specific window vaults, and it didn't help the killer in any way… and they killswitched him for two months over it. Meanwhile, Springtrap breaks survivor audio for the rest of the match if you use the doors, literally has an invisibility bug that occurs EVERY time he uses his power, and has multiple bugs around the axe that make it more oppressive than it should be.
Nothing. No killswitch. Deal with it until we try to fix it in a week or two.
