    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/333689/dc-penalty-needs-to-be-more-strict

The other day i got disconnected by the game three times in a row. Had to wait every time. Filed a ticket and they can't do anything about it 🙃

I know my experience isn't a substitute for everyone else's, but the only times I have been booted multiple times in a day I have traced it to either my internet, or on one occasion a bad ethernet cable.

And every time I have been booted more than once in a day, I just stopped playing. It did take a couple days getting booted before I traced it to the cord.

I don't think the servers boot people all that often.

  • I will continue to say the first and maybe second DC should have light penalties, but 3 and up in a single day should draw brutal penalties. People using the DC to nope out of matches when things don't go their way deserve the metaphorical hammer.

If your internet is on the fritz, one or two bootings should compel you to step away for a bit. If you know your internet is unstable and you continue to queue up, you're an inconsiderate jerk and deserve harsher penalties.

I might draw it up this way:

    1st DC in a 16hr period: 5 min

    2nd: 10 min

    3rd: 4 hours

    4th: 8 hours

    5th: 24 hours

Drawing the max penalty multiple times inside of a set period (a week? month?) would make a player (a habitual offender) eligible for long term bans.

    It’s not just you.

It will plague this game until the devs do something about it. I’m not talking about a 5 second BT that acts like a bandaid.

There is probably no good solution for tunneling than wouldn't break the game, so one is likely never coming. If a killer is determined to tunnel you out, even to the point of throwing the game, they will do so regardless of whatever changes the devs make, short of making an unhooked survivor straight up invincible until another surv is hooked.

ive been playing hillbilly which i fully believe is the worst killer in the game, at least in regards to his power.

But i have been trying to get the lightborn teachable forever and it seems it just refuses to ever spawn on the web

  • As has been said, there's no way SWF is going away, they would lose a massive chunk of their player base. And the biggest issue with SWF (the comms coordination) is usually run through other apps, so there's no way BHVR could regulate that even if they were so inclined.

Is SWF a problem? Maybe, but not a huge one, as most SWFs aren't all that good. That said, a good, coordinated four player squad is the most powerful thing in the game by a fair margin, and even a mediocre comms SWF is going to be stronger than 95% of solo squads. One of the good squads that decides to bully is just a miserable thing to deal with, and the game would be better off without them (though beating one is a great feeling).

And I personally don't feel too affected by it, as I don't run into those all that often (maybe a small handful a week), and I have post game chat disabled, but I am generally bothered by how BM-ish these squads can be. It's like "you brought a machine gun to a knife fight and won, congrats, I guess?"

Have your fun, but have a little humility and perspective.

    @Aneurysm said:

SWF can't be and shouldn't be removed. Although if solo queue were improved, fewer survivors might see it as the only option.

Solo queue should be buffed, but I would argue that anyone who sees SWF as "the only option" is:

    a) Someone who has only really ever played in SWFs and that's their baseline

    b) At low MMR

    c) Not good at the game

  • To echo other comments here, if a surv wants to hinder your pursuit of a teammate with BT bodyblocking, they've surrendered any right to complain about tunneling.

BT is there to help you get away, and if someone willfully hangs around in your face after the unhook...well they get what they get.

I mean the same could be said for P3, and that itself took way too long, just making big gains now because other people are still putting on flans, some are presumably trying to do the same thing

I don't think P3 took long at all, the only real deterrent was that the first two trips through were just sunk cost, since you lost everything. And that for me just wasn't worth it.

Time wise, P3 is pretty negligible. I don't know how much you play, but for me I think that if I were to guess how many what level my most played characters would be at if it weren't capped at 50, I'd say probably something like 600-700. That may sound like an outrageous number, but you actually burn through those levels pretty quick, especially 1-30ish.

For your most played characters, P6 is gonna happen pretty organically. I mean, there's no choice anymore, really.

If you P3 now, again it's a bunch of sunk cost for rewards you'll end up with anyway.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Are Killers now at the point that they complain about MacMillan? The MacMillan-Maps are as balanced as DBD can get. And in my opinion, players who burn MacMillan are mostly those players who want to go on a normal Map and just want to avoid an Indoor-Map or something like that.

Yeah, MacMillan is pretty innocuous among the other realms. I don't mind it at all from either side.

  • Maybe I am missing something, but unless you simply stop putting any BP into a character, you're going to get to at least P6 as a matter of course, and it probably won't take that long.

I can see absolutely no good reason to prestige right now. Unless you are a total completionist who wants the cosmetics on character you have no intention of ever using again.

By that logic I have 4kd multiple times against dead hard players, so it must be fine since it still can be done.

    Well probably, yeah.

I hate DH, and it's not balanced or fair, but it doesn't break the game or guarantee the outcome of a chase or game. It just makes my job as a killer harder, sometimes leads to losses that should have been wins, but it doesn't guarantee that surv is going to get away from me. when I played well enough to escape. Thems the breaks sometimes. But I don't stop playing when NOED procs (no do I stop running when I am exposed because that down is now "guaranteed").

What neither of those things are is guaranteed losses. There are no "free" kills or escapes, but there are varying degrees of difficulty and advantage/disadvantage. That's what I was arguing, not whether it was fair. I suppose this whole argument is just semantic nitpicking.

FTR, again, I think NOED is annoying af and I don't think it's good for game health; BHVR could delete it from the game today and it wouldn't affect me in the least.

But the reality is that there isn't a whole lot in DBD that is totally fair, though.

EDIT - there is one thing in the game that I feel will result in a near guaranteed kill, and it's the topic of this thread.

  • @Shaped said:

I am asking because I was thinking of getting her but might get pinhead instead.

I am already used to m1 killers and like playing them, except freddy that is.

So what should I do? Maybe get both I guess and then I am only missing demo when it comes to licensed. For now.

Pinhead is definitely the stronger killer of the two, but Sadako is not the weakest killer in the game, or even close, imo. Personally I would still rank her above Freddy, Clown, Ghostface, Myers, and probably Legion.

And at low-mid MMR, she is completely viable, and very fun. After scratched mirror Myers, she's probably the best at getting jumpscares/stealth hits, if that's your thing.

But you will run into a wall if/when you climb to higher levels, as really good teams will make life miserable for Sadako by denying her map control. The real pain point with Sadako is in looping, because her current kit is nearly barebones M1. And she depends a lot on her add-ons.

To maximize her, you'll need to embrace hit and run. If the 1v1 is what you enjoy, steer away.

Pinhead is stronger, and will remain viable for longer, but also requires slightly more technical skill, as much of his potential is tied to his chain use. And that takes a while to get a feel for.

  • Like Dead Hard, I think NOED is a crutch perk (at the very least like training wheels for baby killers) and haven't run it a single time since I had under 100 hours in game.

But that said, it does not guarantee anything. A speed boost does not guarantee a hit, exposed survs do not guarantee a down, and end game downs do not guarantee kills. Just like DH doesn't guarantee you're gonna escape that chase.

A killer still has to potentially find the survs, hit/down them, hook them, and then defend that hook. Are those things easier with NOED? Of course; much, much easier. But kills are not going to just happen because you're running it.

I'm pretty sure everyone who has played much survivor has been part of at least one 4 man escape after NOED has activated. Good survivors will most often beat bad killers regardless of the perks.

The NOED nerf isn't going to be transformative, but it will make a difference, because it will rarely stay up longer than 30-40 seconds, which means fewer survs will nope the hell out when NOED procs, and NOED killers will get fewer late game kills.

What I often see is teammates getting cocky in the late game against an obviously inexperienced killer, and getting bit by NOED, but that's as much bad surv play as a NOED bailout.

  • As killer:

Surv DC; it's the ultimate submission. Bonus points if they were acting cocky (which DCers usually are).

Knowing you've just scared the ever-loving feces out of a player with a stealth hit or gen grab. Sadako is actually the best for this, imo.

When the Blood Warden wall goes up in front of the teabagging surv.

    Long range snipes

    As surv:

The late game save and escape, huge bonus if the killer was face camping. Usually a team effort, but so gratifying.

I personally love power struggle plays, especially immediately preceding an escape.

When the killer drops chase because they just can't catch you (I'm not the world's greatest looper, so this is a nice treat when it happens).

  • Robert Englund Freddy with voice lines.

  • I have 4-5 killers below her on my rankings, but it gets rough as you move up mmr. She can be vastly improved with only a few tweaks to her TP and condemnation, imo. The trick is going to be improving her looping, but I think making her completely undetectable/invisible while demanifested would be a good start.

I still think she is fun as heck, and if I keep myself at mid-low mmr with her I get lots of kills.

  • The value is there, but it's not like BBQ and WGLF were being run all the time by everyone.

If I recall the usage stats correctly, BBQ is run about 45% of the time (which is a lot), and WGLF about 10% of the time (not so much).

Personally, I ran both of these essentially every match, so I am going to miss those extra BP. But I think most people are just mad they'll no longer have the option.

Another thing that I don't get is that they buffed the other effects of the lesser run perk (WGLF) to compensate, but only took from the more popular perk (BBQ).

    @ShyPirate said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3049685#Comment_3049685

This is simply not mathematically possible unless you:

    1) never claimed a daily ritual

    2) never claimed a tome challenge

    3) never used a bloodpoint offering

    4) never played a game in which another player used an offering like BPS, Anniversary Cakes, etc.

    5) never claimed a bloodpoint code

    6) never got a login reward

    7) never received a rank reset bonus

There may be more I am missing but every one of these things decreases the percentage of total bloodpoints earned from BBQ and WGLF, which at absolute maximum can be 50%

Yeah, like I said I ran these perks almost every single game, but they accounted for like a third of my overall BP earnings, if I had to estimate.

  • I generally agree, but I think that if a surv team goes into the match and their priority is to clown on and frustrate the killer with repeated and coordinated blinds and stuns, and primary objectives and escape are an afterthought, that is toxic behavior.

Of course, it's only really annoying if the team is actually good at it, because most times they aren't and the end result is a 4K.

    But still, intent matters.

    1. Identify 360'ers
    2. Get close and fast hit (no lunges)
    3. Don't turn, step back so he won't disappear completely from sight.

Problem is that killers have huge blindspot right in front of them for some reason.

Good advice, especially #3. I play killer mostly on console, and I figured this out after a lot of frustration. Plus, lots of survs will glue themselves to you to screw with your FOV, and then you get screwed by aim assist a good portion of the time as well.

Backing up a bit helps a lot with these types, and with half decent timing many times the surv will end up 360ing right into your swing.

  • Being boring doesn't make Freddy bad, being bad makes Freddy bad.

  • My take is that games aren't consistently bad, how we view these games has a lot to do with perspective, and the majority of the time, you'll be grouped with comparably skilled players. And yes, I play solo queue, pretty much exclusively (like 99%) and have about 1K hours in survivor. Sometimes I'm the strongest link, sometimes I'm the weakest, but on average it's pretty fair.

Solo isn't that bad, people just only see their version of events, and it's human nature to deflect and project.

Everyone will get the occasional awful matchmaking fiasco, if you truly are playing most of your games in a bag of potatoes, it's a virtual certainty that you're a potato too.

A hard truth for all the "my teammates are always so baaad" crowd.

  • @Krazzik said:

Some survivors kill themselves on hook if they aren't saved in 5 seconds though.

This. Hooked survs have to remember there is some time to play with, and running straight to the hook as soon as they are put on is not the smartest play. As both a surv and killer, I've seen so many games thrown because the whole squad feels like they have to get that unhook right just now (also unjustified cries of "camping", but that's another discussion).

And yeah, if the gen I am on is like 80-90% done when they are hooked, I am finishing it first.

It's frustrating when teammates send themselves to second stage when they aren't unhooked in less than 10 seconds.

  • Hatch is such a non-issue at this point.

Also, a hatch escape doesn't feel like a win as a surv, and doesn't feel like a loss as a killer. It's almost always a matter of luck/rng.

  • Gates should regress for sure, or at the very least, the killer should be able to hit and regress them if they are 99'd.

It doesn't feel fair to able to 99 a gate, have the whole team coordinate and execute and end game save, and then just tap the door on the way out. It's only a 20 second task.

  • @Shaped said:

This is the best policy. I have my messaging disabled, people can mald into the void, I won't hear it.

When I see what some people say post game, it makes me glad I'm tuned out.

  • It's a legit perk, but also one that can still be used to play like a dbag.

You will still run into players who don't try to do objectives in favor of trying to lure you into upstairs corners. It's not busted like it was, but it can still be used to harass and frustrate.

And the stank of the exploit is still on it for right or wrong. When I pick someone up and they have BO, my first thought is...unkind. And if I can I will down them when they are near a hook, tunnel or no, ngl.

I don't think there's anything wrong with running it, but survs who do shouldn't surprised if they get slugged.

  • @Beatricks said:

If you are super desperate, and can change your displayed username, it might be worth a shot to put the challenge name in your name so that if you run into a killer who still has empathy for some bizarre reason will help you with it. I've given a poor David the 4 pallet stuns on Badham one time and he was super happy about it, telling me how he has been trying to do that challenge for weeks but just isn't that good at the game.

This is probably the most viable way to go about this. I pretty much filed all of the hatch opening challenges in the "pain in the butt, not even gonna try" column since the hatch changes took effect.

By that logic we can all be in the same groups? Can white people be included in groups for POC? Can able bodied people be included in groups for the disabled?

I'm sorry but groups exist for a reason and accepting people who don't belong to it defeats the purpose of them.

Groups do exist and identity matters, but (and I am not necessarily accusing you of this) strict gatekeeping and infighting amongst subdivisions of generally oppressed/marginalized demographics only serves to harm the whole and benefit the oppressor(s).

Distilling groups down to their exact compositions and deciding who belongs in what box is a secondary concern to the larger issue.

Causes being undermined by infighting is a tale as old as history, and you see it play out anywhere people are oppressed.

Out of the every single 100+ times I've seen someone dc, I can't remember a single time it didn't happen right after a down/hook.

On rare occasion I've seen a surv DC at a really odd time and assumed they got booted, and I my self have been booted (once I recall right as I was hooked, which no doubt made it look bad) on occasion.

But yeah, 99.9% of the time it's just the player babying out.

That said, I think there should be benefit of the doubt on the first one.

But if they keep doing it? Make the penalty so long their grandkids will be watching them wait it out.

I would support the following escalation (within an 8 hour period):

    1st DC = 5 min

    2nd DC - 60 min

    3rd DC - 24 hours

  • Dredge is good, but not oppressive.

  • Leave the first one short incase someone just got booted or his having internet issues, but for multiple DCs in a short period, yeah, absolutely drop the hammer on them.

  • I don't know, but I sure hope so. Adding the Englund likeness and one (Nancy) or more of the OG survs would really revitalize Freddy, and would make him super popular almost instantly.

And it they could get some Englund voice lines? *chef's kiss*

So the main arguments are that my +3000 hs in DBD are worthless as a testimony, that PSN users can pay $10 to change their nicknames and that high-ranked users come from multi-accounts in the same console.

    Ok guys 😂

Correct, one person's experience, regardless of how extensive it is, doesn't constitute immutable fact. Not worthless, just a drop in the informational bucket, and not nearly enough to justify a sweeping generalization. Other people saying they haven't noticed that in their thousands of hours of gameplay means just as much.

And obviously PC players can more easily change their names and are much more likely to have DBD-centric names; I only mentioned the ability to change username because you said it was only available to PC users, which was just factually incorrect.

The sounds and animations always make me wanna play her again. They were just done so well!

Yeah, her visual/audio design as both killer and from the surv perspective is probably the best in the game. It's too bad she is becoming so infrequently played.

  • She is just a blast to play as, she needs to be buffed to make her effective at higher levels.

For me it's the stealth hit and run/misdirection, and clearly knowing when you've just made a surv player soil their drawers.

  • I don't think it's cheating, but I don't think it's in the spirit of the game, it does confer some advantage, and looks like crap. I like the dark atmosphere, personally.

But I often find that people get weirdly defensive about stuff like this when they feel like they are gaining an unfair advantage.

And probably they (or their mods) just silence the discussion as soon as it starts, to avoid even acknowledging it.

Isn't it just the party in asymmetrical game that should have a distinct advantage in the 1vs1 while the other party has teammates to gain the advantage in the "many vs 1"?

I think it's different types of "power". The killer should be the aggressor/offensive role, and if playing optimally, dictate the flow of the match. It's just more in the spirit of horror, imo.

But by responding/reacting to the killer's tactics smartly, the surv team can use that aggression/power against them and win. But if the survs try to assert themselves aggressively, and skill is equal, they should come out on the wrong end of that.

And I think that is actually the way things do work currently, but the key variable that can turn everything on its ear here is the matchmaking (edit: and maps).

At the end of the day, it's all about how you perceive what power is, though.

  • I don't think you'd ever see Freddy cosmetics unless BHVR got the rights to use the Craven/Englund version.

You can do it once in PSN and nobody will change their username name to "ClownKillerisyourDaddy" for just one game.

PC players can play with their nicknames on a daily basis, so you are comparing a paper boat with the Titanic.

I didn't say that it was common, just possible. And you can do it any number of times in PSN, so long as you are willing to pay $10 a pop.

To the point of the topic, everyone and their damned cousin DCs, and I hate it, but I don't see this coming from any one sector more than others.

Unless it has changed, PC players are the only user that can edit their nicknames for DBD.

Nicknames like "Hook_on_you", "DBD_Master" and thousand others are pretty obvious.

You can change your PSN username (though you have to pay for it after the first change, so it's less likely you'll see it as much), and XBox gamertag, and that is reflected in your DBD name, so it is possible on other platforms.

  • Thematically, killer seems like the obvious choice.

  • Apparently it's othering anyone with a globe icon day.

I mean it always kinda is, but people are really on their BS today.

  • X-Files; Mulder and Scully (obvs), the gestated alien hybrid (seen in the first movie and a few eps) as the killer.

There are a couple other creature feature monsters from the show that would make good killers, but an alien seems like the iconic choice.

Semi-related, I've also always imagined that the Twins were at least in part inspired by an episode of the X-Files (2.20, for anyone curious).

  • This has not been my experience; in over 2K hours of gameplay I have not noticed any platform disproportion in where toxicity is coming from.

    Seems universal to me.
