  • On a broad conceptual level, I think the idea isn't bad. I for one get really exasperated every time a new killer comes out without a strong anti-chase and the sheeple are like "oMG, nO CHasE poWEr? tRASh Tier!", as if chase/looping is the only thing in the game that matters.

It's lame, and I actually like that the last few killers (save Wesker) have been moving in a different direction.

That said, the follow through on the this killer's design is trash tier, and takes what was wrong with the last killer and somehow makes it worse.

Is some of the angst just due to unmet expectations (for a cyborg killer)? Sure. But the chapter is still phoned in filler.

With 2 chapters a year you get very long spans of content drought. I doubt a live-service game can handle that.

    3 might be better.

Yeah, there's a balance you have to find, for sure. That said, you could fill some of those gaps with paragraphs rather than chapters, with more emphasis on really fleshing out the bigger releases.

To me, half baked content is not much better than no content, and in many cases worse, since your rep for quality takes a hit.

That said, 3 annual chapters would be a good number, I think.

  • Oh, and the mori...not the biggest thing, but as lazy and sterile as you can get. Imitation Freddy, short, boring, incorporating nothing unique about her or her power, no thematic flourish.

Absolutely phoned in, totally emblematic of the rest of the chapter we've seen so far.

I like the killer, it seems to bring all the casual misogynists out of their hiding.

I'm usually positive about most things, but in this case I don't think you can chalk up the hate for this chapter/killer to neckbearded misogyny. At least not fully.

I am all about female killers and love how diverse DBD is (and actually love the salt from haters), but everything aside from the killer's appearance is totally phoned in. It'll actually give the misogynists more fuel, since it's legit not good.

I would say this chapter is dog water, but it's weaker than that, it's diet dog water.

  • She looks cool generally (would be nicer as a surv, but kinda underwhelming for a killer), but everything else about her is totally underwhelming. Power, perks, lore...all weak AF.

I feel like they are really trying to shift toward a new hunter/killer, hit and run type meta, and this seems geared toward that end, but the execution is godawful.

For the first time since I started playing DBD, I am seriously considering skipping a chapter, or at least just picking up the characters with shards and that's it.

  • No, leave these two alone. NTH is going to get a lot less run once the Eruption nerf hits. Both NTH and CoB were catalyzed by the emergence of Eruption, and will fade back a bit.

And on their own, neither are OP.

    1. Infrastructure would need to be overhauled, BHVR has enough on their plate
    2. Language barriers
    3. People don't want to be subjected to other people's nonsense. If I wanted to listen to a bunch of screeching toxic twits, I'd play CoD.*
    4. Much harder to moderate, would lead to a tsunami of reporting

    • you could make it optional, but then you'd have people crying about and attacking people because they weren't using it.

This is the way. It's liberating not even having to think about it. Chats and messages from non-friends are disabled for me, and it was one of the best decisions I've made.

Blissful silence, knowing all those salty people are just malding into the void

  • Funnily enough, these people are almost always the ones to accuse others of being tryhards or "taking the game too seriously"

I think we are finally entering an era of dbd where the bulk of people's skill is locked behind strong perks and items/addons.

Entering? We're long past that point. In fact, I might argue that it has been that way since nearly the beginning. DBD has never been a great (or even decent) game at expressing (or demanding of) technical gaming skill. It's only becoming more of what it has always been.

Like wydyadoit said, the core of this game is power creep. Invested time (and $$) isn't rewarded as much with skill as with a loaded toolbox. A lot people may not want to hear that, but it's true.

  • Many of the Nurses I've faced lately have been easier than before, but I've been on the wrong end of a few beatdowns, too.

Some might be dailies, but I think people who never play Nurse probably just trash those in favor of another (I know I do). I think the add-on pass threw some cold reality onto a lot of casual Nurses.

One kind of notable case the other night was my team (solo) won against a Nurse pretty easily, and I was shocked to see they were P100. And I am definitely not a god tier survivor.

  • Dead Hard is absolutely not better than it was, that's crazy talk.

Annoying still? Sure, but it was flat out busted before.

When I get burned by it now, 8/10 times it's just my own impatience in not waiting it out (and yes, there are quite a few auto-head harders out there, though not as many as some make out).

Nerfing it more and not allowing distance just means you follow up with another hit and down them anyway; the only thing more they could do with it now is just to remove it.

    Which isn't going to happen.

I'll take the way it is all day over survs just hitting E and yeeting themselves to a pallet or window. It was flat out a mistake eraser.

  • @squbax said:

Why play dredge when better killers are at your disposal?

By that logic, why play anyone but Nurse/Blight?

Dredge isn't my fave killer (of killers with a similar skillset, I prefer Sadako), but I find them fun enough, and not weak by any means.

I'll play at least a few matches as the Dredge every week. Plus Dredge has some great cosmetics.

  • Not a big deal, imo. They're not expensive, they're only on the web a limited time, and I'll be able to use them in future lunar events. And it's actually kind of nice because I have at least a few on just about every character, so I'll have them ready to go every year when the event starts.

The difference between those "brown and yellow add-ons you never use", is that unlike event items, those items will never go away.

BHVR has the ability to compensate every gamer with blood points for items that are no longer available to use. Perfect example, the map offerings for the stranger things lab. When that map offering became deactivated, everyone got blood points, and event items should be no different. Justifying keeping them around because "you can use it next year", isn't exactly a compelling argument.

At the end of the day, it wouldn't hurt BHVR to at least offer a congratulatory blood point code for finishing an event, because at least that way it can help to offset the thousands of blood points that were spent on items that can no longer be used.

Those brown and yellow add-ons (and the myriad of other stuff I'll never use) never going away is a double edged sword. Yeah, I'll have them forever, but not only will I never use them, I have to keep buying them year round, a 24/7/365 waste of BP. At least the envelopes have some utility.

i mean.... you kind of proved the point? playing nicely as a weak killer shouldnt make it so you lose, if anything at least a draw?

I think Demo is a good killer to use for this purpose as I don't think he's particularly strong or weak, but a solidly mid-tier killer that reflects player skill pretty well.

  • Not so much with pallets, but sketchy, BS hits on window vaults are just a constant. It wouldn't be DBD without them (and it never ceases to amaze and piss me tf off).

  • @Tsulan said:

If people would stop disconnecting and suiciding, the kill rates would be lower.

    Much lower...

Almost certainly. Then again, when I am playing killer and someone DCs immediately, the odds of me letting one or more others go rise dramatically, because I know how much it sucks to be abandoned right off the bat. So in my case, a surv DCing often spares their teammates.

Of course, playing those games out still really sucks for all of us, and the more that happens, the worse it is for the game. So maybe I should be merciless. I know from all my surv games that most killers aren't as kind hearted as I am.

My point was how wide spread is it, is it enough to effect the killers 60% kill rate? I'm just not convinced of that.

Oh, I think it very much is.

Between my surv and killer matches, I would say I see a DC at 4+ gens in 1 out of 4 games, conservatively. And any kills that follow have to be considered suspect, as you have no idea how things would have gone with a full team dividing pressure.

Not to mention that many survs who stay in the game after an early DC aren't really trying anymore. I know in many of the matches I play where a teammate bails early, I know it's a lost cause and more often than not just switch to autopilot.

It's not just the DC/suicide on hook itself skewing the numbers, but the ripple of non-quantifiable effects.

I’m pretty sure the worst part is being camped and/or tunneled. When I play survivor, I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about another player DCing, but I do care about being tunneled or camped. 🤷‍♀️

If your teammate DCs early, the outcome is probably going to be the same; you're gonna die (if the killer is any good). Unless it comes late, a DC will ruin the game, and more for the other survs than the killer. When I am playing killer, I care a lot less if a surv DCs than if it's a teammate, because that screws the other three of us over.

That's not even to mention that I have a game ruined by a disconnector like four times for every one time I get camped or tunneled.

So yeah, I'll take the occasional facecamp over the torrent of disconnecting babies, thanks

  • The single worst part of the surv experience are disconnectors. De-pipping because of one when traying to rank up is mildly infuriating.

But yeah, the gold to iri 1 grind in solo can really put you through it because of things you can't control.

  • Sadako is my highest prestige killer, but still in the 20s, as I enjoy playing different killers too much. But if I had to commit, it would probably be her (right now). I love me the jumpscares.

On the surv side I've committed to Haddie (despite my growing indignation at her lack of cosmetics), so maybe I just like rolling with characters I am stupidly optimistic will get the attention they need at some point.

  • @Brimp said:

Funny enough unless they disabled the bonus I logged in an neither killer nor survivor has a bonus.

For me, the bonus has been on killer like 95% of the time for the last 3-4 weeks, and has been 100% on killer since the update/event started. As a result, I haven't been playing much surv, which sucks. I'm a slave to those BP, I guess.

That said, my games as killer since the update haven't been appreciably harder.

  • Pinhead. No one ever wants to solve the box.

I would say Legion, but at the end of the day Legion still sucks, just a little less in solo

  • Killer isn't too strong, it's that matchmaking sucks. If you get four survs of similar skill, solo really isn't bad (provided MMR didn't hook you up with a 10K hour killer).

The new changes coming will help, but the really boogeyman for soloq is the matchmaking, not OP killers.

Barring some major changes that probably aren't coming, this game is never going to feel fair/balanced to everyone.

But as others have said, 300 hours is just dipping your toes in the water. I'm over 3K hours combined (almost evenly split) and I have many moments when I get frustrated by imbalance and my own shortcomings.

If knowing that's it's gonna take thousands of hours to proficiency seems like too much, I might bail now as well. I'm not sure I would have stuck with it if I knew how much of my life DBD was gonna eat, tbh.

  • In terms of its basic, surface level mechanics, DbD is a pretty simple game, and the technical skill required is minimal. So on that point, it's new player friendly.

However, where it gets really unfriendly for new players is in the lack of balance, extreme inconsistency between maps (which requires learning the nuances of all the different maps), epically inconsistent matchmaking, and of course that it is a game that isn't technically pay to win, but is effectively pay to win.

I've brought this up before, but the moment when I began to realize what I got myself into when I was watching an Otz video a few years back and he said not to be hard on yourself and to expect you won't start to get good until about 1K hours (now 3K hours in, I'd agree with him).

It's kind of a crazy thing that a game that is so technically simple takes so long to master, but that's a result of the unevenness of the game.

So my answer to the question would be new players will be fine unless they want to win consistently. Or won't be thrown off by running into random buzzsaws without warning (due to poor MMR). And have a thick skin toward toxic jackasses, and patience for learning the wide variety of different codes of player conduct people seem to have.

On second thought, maybe they should just stay away.

  • @Beatricks said:

If BHVR wants people not to DC they have to fix their game. They won't do that so...

    No.

The game has issues, but if those issues are so vexing to you that you routinely DC, just don't queue up at all. Don't punish other players who are dealing with the same BS but who aren't giant diaper babies, because that's what DCing does, it punishes your teammates, not BHVR.

Two legit excuses for a DC:

    1. Obvious hackers
    2. Some kind of bug/glitch (like getting stuck in the environment, not being able to move, etc.)

That's it. If you can't help but DC on the regular, find something else to play.

    @AmpersandUnderscore said:

They can't really turn the DC penalty up too high, or else actual disconnect situations punish the player. As frustrating as rage quitting can be, BHVR has to consider this scenario too when designing penalties.

I feel like a lot of these 'first down I quit' scenarios are a symptom of tunneling being too strong.

There are a strangely high number of games where the first player is sacrificed in the first 3-4 hooks of the game. It puts a lot of pressure on the first chase going reasonably well for survivors. A fast first down sends the message that you're the weak link and key to an easy win.

That first player killed in that scenario gets, what, 5k BP tops, a depip, and they don't get to play the game. If they stick around they get to be a good person and teammate... which they could also do if they got to play the game. Even if they recognize that it's time to take a break after a couple tilting games in a row, they've already decided to stop playing for a while, and a 12 hour timeout isn't going to slow them down.

This is true to a degree. No one should have the hammer dropped on them because their internet dropped.

On the other hand, if someone's internet is bugging out and they keep queuing up, getting booted, and queuing up again, that's on the player. Personally, If I get kicked more than once or twice in a single play session, I stop playing, because something isn't right.

I would propose a system that escalates the length of bans dramatically after the first few (assuming the first 2-3 may be technical issues). Like a minute for the first, 2 minutes for the second, 5 minutes for the third (accompanied by a warning), then a full day time out for the fourth.

And also if you have a player who DCs multiple times every play session over the course of weeks/months, really heavy bans should be on the table. Days/weeks up to permaban. People who think it's cool to DC whenever thing aren't going their way should be marginalized, because they really ruin the experience for other people.

And yeah, some people have generally crap internet, but there's really not much you can do for that, and you can't balance the system around people playing from the moon. If someone's internet just can't handle it, they should stop trying. That sounds harsh, but reality is reality, and continually trying to pound a square peg though a round hole isn't the way, and it isn't fair to others.

But let's be real, the vast majority of disconnections are just players being babies. We all know the most common scenarios, DC after the first quick down (the king), DC right after being hooked, DC after an embarrassing misplay.

    It's soooooo tired.

I loved the Sadako Rising chapter and I've been playing her a lot recently. However, I'm sure most agree that she's a mediocre killer at best, and playing her against survivors with even modest game hours/experience/knowledge renders her 'special abilities' virtually redundant. Her 'Condemned' power poses no challenge for survivors and they will quite literally interact with a TV right in front of you. Here are a couple of my ideas for improvement:

    • Reduced cooldown on her teleportation and TV 's being off. This is arguably one of the most glaring issues with her design, as decent survivors are not afraid to build their 'condemned' status in exchange for denying her her teleportation power.
    • Better TV spawns: why do some spawn in dead zones? They need to be closer to important areas on the map (gens, main buildings, etc.).
    • Make her 'Condemned' power an actual challenge for survivors so they have to factor it into their gameplay. Just a suggestion would be that, for example: survivors are exposed for a certain amount of time after copying a tape; condemned stacks build faster than they currently do; or survivors are oblivious whilst carrying a tape. These are just rough ideas on ways in which her main power could be improved.
    • Finally... addons. I would argue she has the worst addons amongst the entire killer roster. Pretty much all of them are minor variations of TV cooldown improvements, incremental improvements of condemned stacks, or visibility during her demanifested state. Her iridescent addons are not worthy of being in that category when some of her green addons are actually much, much better. They could be so much more creative, like one I thought of would be that when a survivor rescues another from a hook, the hooked survivor condemned stacks transfer to the unhooker (or something like that).

What're your thoughts? I love what they did with her visually and she is by far one of the coolest-looking killers in the game, but she continually gets stomped on by semi-decent survivors. In her current state, she is unviable against high MMR players, and dare I say it? SWF.

    Thanks for reading!

I agree on most of this; the reduced cooldown on TVs is a must, imo.

I believe the TVs all spawn within a certain radius of a gen, but they are often facing a direction that makes it disorienting when you manifest; I might have them facing toward their corresponding gen. Freddy TPs right to each gen, so this doesn't seem like an unfair ask.

Condemned should progess faster, and I might have the carry a tape make a surv exposed. To offset this, I would nerf the slug-condemnation strat into the ground by fundamentally changing the add-ons that facilitate it.

I think the high kill rates we see for Sadako has two causes:

    1. Not that many people play her, but those who do main her. This is common among some of the killers with lower pick rates and higher kill rates, and doesn't indicate a killers general strength.
    2. Many of those Sadako mins also employ the condemnation-slug strat, which to be honest, sucks from all sides.

tl:dr, she has a high kill rate, but not because she's strong. I'd rebalance by killing the strat that props up her global kill rate, but buff her general skill set.

I'm not as down on her add-ons as you are, and she certainly doesn't have the weakest set in the game (Pyramid Head takes that title, easily). All her add-ons the buff the stealth I think are good. The Iri tape is really good.

One other change I would make would be to nix her "lullaby", as it makes no sense on a steath killer. At least make it really, really subtle. Also make Bloody Fingernails basekit, and reduce the manifestation time shorter to give it utility at tall loops.

      • where is the ping indicator in the lobby?
    • skill checks that appear when you let of the gen and make the gen explode
    • erruption
    • matchmaking
      • how is it possible, that a player with 23h playtime gets into a lobby with all p100 players?! (killer included)
    • no reputation system
      • show how many disconnects a user made the last X games
      • how ofter a player got afk crows last X games
      • there are players with several hundred pages of -rep for dbd on steam and still they are allowed to play this game. can you imagine how many players are lost because of these people?
    • depip when someone disconnects
    • chat
      • why is it not possible to talk to crossplayers on a different system?
      • ridiculous "censorship" of the endgame chat
    • map rng
      • the hook spawn is still a problem. sometime so close, you can shake hands on hooks
      • there are absolute dead zones without anything except some lonely slim trees and a generator
    • console gamers
      • survivor and killer seems to have performance issues because they always have 3x the ping of everyone else
    • no incentives to play good
      • unhook = 1000 BP, save unhook bonus is only 500 BP. why not reversed?
    • bot killer
      • if its not a hitter you have a hard time not to depip in red ranks
      • killer gets no punishment for being afk unless you go thru a report progress that takes longer then the actual match.
    • report system
      • it's just ridiculous the way it's currently being handled. there aren't even text based logs of the match!
      • you should at least watch the videos in the report. reporting a hacker and the video has 0 views after you got an answer to your report is just a slap in the face
    • spending bloodpoints
    • so many junk items you accumulate over time
    • killer that are on a power trip and constantly slapping the hook or nodding without any provocation
    • bleedout on purpose
    • prestige levels in the pre match lobby
    • Yes, getting camped sucks
    • Sure, but high ping survs also suck. That knife cuts both ways
    • Yes, skill checks as you let go of the gen are infuriating
    • Yes, Eruption needs attention
    • Matchmaking is a hot mess, but unlikely to be substantively improved
    • Some kind of rep system would be nice, if someone is habitually toxic or a chronic disconnector, it would be nice to avoid them. But rep should not be based on player feedback, but on some sort of metric (like game:DC ratio, or number of bans).
    • If there is an early DC in a match, no one should de-pip.
    • Don't use chat, don't personally care. I have it (well, messaging) diabled.
    • Map RNG is crap, but the bigger issue is overall map design inconsistency. This and matchmaking are problems 1a and 1b in DBD, imo.
    • Console having different ping isn't really a thing. I play on PS5, any my ping is almost always under 40ms. I have not noticed other console players having disproportionately high ping either. Seems like another case of seeing a problem where you want to see one, usually scapegoating console players
    • Incentivizing smart play would be nice, yes
    • Report system is a joke, agreed. Especially on console.
    • Spending BP is far too tedious, for sure
    • Yes, TONS of utterly useless items on the web, vestiges of old versions of the game that have no place anymore. Hate wasting BP on them.
    • Toxic players on all sides, tale as old as time
    • intentional bleedouts suck, players should have option to self-bleedout after like 2 min, or to just get back up
    • Can't win or lose on rank/grade in lobby; leave it in, people cry. Remove it, people cry

I believe the person truly just wants to know why? And a simple "because it bothers some people" won't help at all when more people are complaining much more about other important issues.

If they really wanted to know why, reading just a bit of one of those other threads would take care of that, so no, I don't think that was the actual purpose of this thread.

And if a person can't be bothered to actually open and read another thread to see what it is about and instead just starts a new one to ask why the other ones exist...well, not sure I have anything polite to say about that.

But really, I'm pretty sure the point of this thread was to minimize the other ones. What is "important" is totally a subjective matter.

That is the struggle of a console killer, and will continue to be until we get some optimization options.

If you don't care, don't read the threads, and spend time posting about those other issues instead of gatekeeping what others should care about.

  • Nope.

Only time I'll ever dodge a lobby is when there's 3-4 TTVs. And even then, only sometimes. 2+ of any item isn't a guarantee they'll be able to use them effectively.

3-4 TTVs is a near guarantee they have some shenanigans planned.

  • @StarLost said:

In about 900 odd hours of killer, I've had 3 survivors give me a kill on a blowout game, including my last game.

Curious if other killers have seen similar?

It is interesting that the game's etiquette is for the killer to give the last survivor an out, but the opposite doesn't hold.

In my memory, I've been given one clear mercy kill in all my years in DBD. It was a legit 4 stack TTV SWF who absolutely dumpstered me, and one of them gave themselves up. It actually turned into a standoff because I didn't want to take it, but once it was clear they wouldn't leave, I hooked them.

    Honestly, I hated it.

Now it's possible that when you're new you can get a "disguised" mercy kill where the killer tries to make it seem like they're still trying so it doesn't seem so condescending (something I've done), but I'm not sure how common that is.

As a killer I spare tons of survs who clearly don't belong in the match in such a way that it isn't totally obvious that I am taking pity on them.

Yeah, I've seen tons of facecamping Bubbas, but not in such a context. This was the prefect distillation of the "I'm gonna get you, the rest of the game be damned" attitude some killers have.

I don't know that I'd seen a killer get so thoroughly owned by a single player in years, and the the surv ended up dead. Such domination usually ends in a DC.

And the absolute chutzpah to smack them on hook afterward. Amazing.

The time people play will be a factor I’m sure.

Tru3 plays on UK/EU servers and streams during the day when most people are at school or work, and gets very sweaty games until late afternoon when people are getting home and putting the game on, and there is a noticeable difference in skill of players he is matched with.

But he still gets potatoes sprinkled in. Not a ton, but they are there.

Which is the point. Him going on about how they're all demigods doesn't change it.

BHVR has decided to end the seasonal sales. It's not the end of the damn world, and it's not a scam or 'greedy' or 'scummy'. Stop with the mental acrobatics to justify being angry at a tiny problem no one sane cares about.

You're absolutely right about it not being a big deal, and a "first world problem".

But by that logic, nothing about this game, including its existing at all, is important, so let's just shut the forum down.

And comparing BHVR's digital to a physical store is apples/oranges. They operate under completely different constraints and considerations.

Not just making these sales seasonal, but pulling in items that had for years been available year round (which is what I find most distasteful) is nothing but a pure FOMO move. Simple as. There is no shelf or floor space to clear, no inventory to manage. It's just a scummy business tactic designed to make people feel pressure to buy.

If you're fine with it, then you're fine with it. That's your prerogative, no one is saying you have to be outraged by it.

Just don't waste your time trying to dress it up like something else, or tell other people how they should feel.

This is pretty much a cosmetic pallet, whats the freakin point? Even if its a hell of a experienced survivor faking the drop and making the right reads, the killer can fake one billion times and will eventually get the survivor, theres no point.

Also, things are getting really messy when you look down with clown 🙃

It still has a tiny fraction of value, but might be the weakest pallet in the game. Top 5, at least. If you stop at it, you're going down quick unless the killer is a twice baked potato.

Exactly, and that's why Patrick, during one of the dev streams, also talked about how, if matches were to be completely fair, people would be waiting for hours for matches so the system prioritizes speed over even skill levels. Dowsey, as my example again, is definitely in the top MMR but, after the skill cap was reduced, switched from hour long waits to a few minutes. Lowering the MMR cap did not magically create a bunch of more skilled players; it just increased the range of players he can match with.

Otherwise, who's going to wait an hour for a match? Nobody.

I like to pick on Tru3 because he's such a donkey, but if he (and others) were in the tiny pool they claim to be, they might get 2-4 matches in a 6-8 hour stream.

I recall when BHVR was testing their different SBMM configs, and you could tell when they made it too accurate, because if you weren't dead in the middle of the MMR curve, the queue times got painful.

  • @Brimp said:

I see no reason now that they added an icon to show the killer has a bad connection to the server.

Yeah, kind of a pointless ask since now everyone in a match can see who has a bad connection. There's no secrets on that front.

Yeah, the video is fine. It's just the premise of the OP, that MMR effectively works properly and pairs only players of a similar skill level to other skill levels, that is faulty. That's the premise I'm criticizing. 1600 doesn't involve only 5% of the player base; it involves a large enough amount of the playerbase, especially considering it can go down to 1400 MMR, that 'high MMR' doesn't effectively exist. That's why Dowsey now gets a match in a few minutes instead of waiting hours.

Yeah, the queue time is the real red flag here when it comes to the accuracy of MMR; if it was as rigidly accurate as the "TOP MMR/TOP LEVEL/TOP PERCENTAGE" crowd wants to be believe, their queue times would be nearly eternal. I get it, they put thousands of hours in and want to believe their dedication has set them apart, but it just isn't so.

You just can't have it be that narrow and keep the queue times from alienating people.

There is no subsection of the player base who aren't subject to the birdshot level inaccuracy of the MMR system. Watch just about any streamer and you can see it, if you're willing to. And sadly, it kind of has to be that way to keep the game playable.

  • No, the Knight is fundamentally flawed. The only thing for it would be complete, back to the drawing board rework.

But as we have seen, BHVR isn't likely to do so.

So probably gonna end up in the killer trash heap.

The Guards should only be downing you in two scenario's.

One, the Knight player is working with them. In a lot of loops, you just have to take a hit if the Knight kites correctly.

Two, if it's the Assassin and the Knight has Dried Horsemeat. He'll chase for a long time and he's much faster than the other Guards.

Those are the only two times the Guards should be hitting you.

Yeah, I'm not sure I've ever taken a hit from a guard in a situation where the knight wasn't also in pursuit. Escaping a guard is as easy as picking a direction to hold W in and not cornering yourself.

Of course, I don't think I've faced a knight in a week or two.

  • I haven't seen a blatant cheater in ages, but there are quite a few auto DH'ers out there. Most of the time it's just really suspicious (like when a player who otherwise sucks somehow times multiple dead hards perfectly, even when baited), but I have caught a few dead to rights by swinging from the other side of a pallet or window, which will trigger it.

I've also had instances where survs were close together and I was clearly trying to hit one, but another close by DH's.

This just sounds like grasping at straws. Eruption has nothing to do with tunneling.

Yeah, it actually kinda works against tunneling it in that it incentivizes killers to drop chase to kick gens. That's one of the things about the gen kick meta, you actually see killers break off chase to kick gens way more often than during the passive regression meta.

Eruption is problematic for a couple of reasons, but none of those are related to tunneling. Unless one were to define tunneling as the killer hitting them once and then trying to down them, but that would be absurd.

  • @kaneyboy said:

And they wonder why killer queue times are getting longer… all my friends have stopped playing now too.

Queue times across the board are the best I've ever seen right now. Slightly (I'd count the variance in seconds) worse on the killer side, miles better on the surv side. I love it.

    Almost

Chasing is the most excitting thing in DbD, not looping

Looping in it's purest form of run around a obstacle x amount of times and then dropping the pallet is one of the most mindnumbing things in this game

Add something like pyramid heads power or weskers power and you are requered to stay active and pay attention again which in turn makes things more excitting again.

I agree they don't always do anti loop correct but when they do it enhances chases rather then dull them

Looping in it's purest form of run around a obstacle x amount of times and then dropping the pallet is one of the most mindnumbing things in this game

Absolutely. And funnily enough, the better people get at it, the more boring it becomes. Now chaining tiles can be fun, but that is very dependent on RNG, and can vary from basic/bland to fun to infuriating/busted depending on the map generation.

But running your basic tile optimally is about as far from fun as you can get. It's like a skipping record.

Heh. Im not even contesting that matchmaking just isnt accurate.

But check the forums and notice the usage of "solo" instead of "bad". And that kinda people then turn around and treat nurse like the average nurse skill level is "marth"

Oh for sure, there are lots of very good solo players. In the past, I've had very good runs of having very competent solo teammates.

And as I alluded to, quite often the teammates people are complaining about are better than they are. It's kind of like people whinging about console players, regardless of how good those players actually are.

Generally speaking, when trying to deflect blame they'll pick the most obvious differentiator, which in DBD is either that they're in solo, or on another platform. It's just convenient when trying to make someone else responsible for your own failure.

As far as Nurse goes, I do feel like once a Nurse player hits that tipping point from "baby nurse" to having a good feel for her mechanics, they have a distinct advantage over all other killers. She has a high skill floor, but once you reach it, you're a real problem for survs. A Nurse doesn't have to be Supaalf to be an issue.

Most of what you said can be applied to digital CCGs like Hearthstone. Card draw RNG and not knowing what your opponent's deck is can make any given match play out in a multitude of different ways. Unwinnable matchups, per se, are almost nonexistent; even if your opponent's deck counters yours perfectly on paper and they play 100% optimally, they can draw all the wrong cards at all the wrong times and still lose.

And many of those matches might turn out to not be fun at all for one or both players involved. One player may feel cheated because they had their opponent on the ropes, until the random numbers broke in their direction long enough to turn the tide. Another may feel robbed because they queued into the one deck that absolutely annihilates theirs, and there's nothing they can do.

So... what exactly about DbD is so unique that a Concede button is justified in those games but not Dead by Daylight? People use the Concede button regularly when they feel like the match is decided or they'd rather not keep going just on the off chance they'll somehow pull victory from the jaws of defeat, and most notably, nobody cares. It's just a normal part of the game, because admitting defeat is as much a part of games as anything else.

In DbD there is no one, clearly defined win condition. Some people want that escape or 4K, some people want to get their daily or complete that tome challenge, and everyone should be afforded the chance to do it, and not have the game artificially cut short because one of the five wasn't "having fun".

People will cite games where they are being trolled or bullied, but those are outliers, really. No one is entitled to the game being fun all the time in a game like this, but they should be entitled to a full game each time they queue up.

Now things have been suggested that seem to make good sense (like boosting the quitter/abandoned bonus), but that would likely increase the rate of DCs, and creates more issues than it solves. And yes, the killer DCing is in many ways less of a slight to other other players than survs DCing, but it's not harmless.

But again, at the end of the day DbD is what it is, and there are defensible reasons to keep it that way. If you want to play games like the ones you keep citing, play one of them.

  • Having used both Eruption and the Hyperfocus/Stakeout to devastating effect, I will say that Eruption is much more busted.

That's because you're going to get value out of Eruption much more consistently. Hyperfocus/Stakeout depends on one major condition: Being able to maintain Stakeout stacks.

Easy in some cases, hard in others, and against stealth killers, practically impossible. If you're not actively repairing within the terror radius, you'll need to consistently hit great skill checks, which is challenging for even great players.

I've had games where I used Stakeout/Hyperfocus to chew through generators solo at astonishing speed, but more often, it was two wasted perks slots.

Eruption isn't guaranteed value, but damned near.

  • DbD is asymmetrical, fundamentally and inherently unbalanced and uneven. What each player goes into a match looking to accomplish may vary wildly, and with only a few exceptions, none are any more valid than another.

Rather than debate all these particulars, let's just distill it down:

The rules are what they are, and by queueing up for a match you are tacitly accepting that the game may play out in a multitude of different ways, and under a multitude of potential configurations. Many of those might turn out to not be all that fun for any one of the players involved. It is what it is. If you're not willing to accept that and play the matches out, play something else.

If the game makes you miserable often enough that being punished for DCing feels like a burden, do you even want to play DbD, really? Or do you just want it to be something it isn't?

    Just don't DC, simple as.
