It's been a few weeks since I played a killer match so I thought I would give it a whirl. This is what I encountered literally 20 minutes ago. Needless to say this is why I don't play killer much anymore.
-
I feel you man. A couple of weeks ago I played a match as a killer. I'm a level 13 killer but I was put into a match where the survivors were ranks 4, 3, and two 2's. #########?!
Hell last night I played a survivor match and had just as a frustrating experience. I'm a rank 8 survivor and every other survivor in the match were single ranks as well, but the killer was ranked 17. We had no business being teamed up against one another. It was no fun for us, and it was definitely no fun for him/her. This is why no one sticks around to play killer anymore.

Unfortunately it's teachables. Don't be like me and level a character you like to play first. I no longer play either of them because their perks are such hot garbage it's not fun. Perks make too much difference to focus on a character you like.
Actually I already have the teachable barbecue and chili unlocked and I managed to purchase discordance from the shrine of secrets. I also have all the teachables from the doctor and the wraith unlocked. I know Pop goes the weasel is a great park for Freddy, but I could easily see BBQ, discordance, sloppy butcher, and maybe Bloodhound or M&A since I don't have nurses calling yet as a great setup for Freddy.
Edit: Or maybe instead of Bloodhound or monitor and abuse I could always go with fired up.
-
I would go with Myers over Ghostface. Ghostface's power can be completely undone if a survivor is simply looking at him. Worse yet it can come from a hooked survivor or a downed survivor. This is why there are so many camping Ghostface killers.

Spend some on on both. If you like playing as freddy then you're going to benefit more from him having as many perks, addons and offerings as possible since he will be your pimrary bread winner for more blood points. Get nurse up a good couple of levels.
If you spend a good chunk on your main you get way more benefits.
1: More addons that you can use, may increase BP and rare.
2: More offerings for more blood points and moris.
3: You may not get the teachable perks you want but you will get other perks which will stop them repeating in the blood web after you max them. Meaning when you do get your teachable it will surely appear next time or at least have a much greater chance of doing so.
4: Prestige for that blood cosmetic...I mean...I don't prestige...the cosmetic isn't good enough to make me give up literally a library of perks and addons. I did it like twice nad probably never do it again. Prestige needs way more to it. Although I understand why people do it. It can be fun to start over in a sense.
If you drop them all on nurse you lost almost all your BP on a killer you don't play for a teachable that may not show up for multiple cycles.
That's a great way to look at it. If I dumped all these blood points for a single teachable perk on a killer that I don't play, then I'm left with playing with killers that I don't really have all that fun playing with just to get back to where I'm at right now. I think I'll level of Freddy. I may have to go without nurses calling for a little while longer, but if I'm enjoying playing the game and having fun then the grind won't be that difficult.
-
I think the perks that the new Silent Hill survivor (Cheryl?) has are pretty bad. I can't remember the name of it, but one perk has you calling upon the entity to lock down a generator that you've been working on for 60 seconds or more. It prevents any hex totems from affecting it or the killer from kicking it which is nice, but it also prevents any other members of your team from working on it. So if the killer sees you and you engage in a chase, other members of your team can't run up to the gen and finish it.
Her blood pact perk also seems kind of useless since it allows you to see the obsession when they're hurt. But if you want to see people that are injured you might as well just run empathy which seems far better.
I haven't played her yet so I can't really pass judgment, but from a strictly first impression point of view it doesn't seem all that great.

@DBD78 said:
Do both. In the end you want all good perks, and level up all/most killers. Nurses is a must have perk. Take your BPs and level up Freddy, than get BPs again playing Freddy to get Nurses in days/weeks/months or whenever you will get there.
That's true, I could just level up Freddy and then play him until I get enough blood points again. I just wish this game wasn't so damn grindy. In-between work and parenting I only have a few hours a day to play this game so I wish there were faster ways to accrue bloodpoints. I have the doctor maxed out with BBQ and Chili which helps, but this matchmaking system can sometimes pit me against survivors that are far out of my league meaning I don't end the match with as many bloodpoints as I normally would. I don't care about winning just about hooking survivors which is where BBQ comes into play. But when you're playing against a red rank swf team, getting hooks can be incredibly hard to do.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
Get Nurses Calling. It is a really good Perk which you can use on basically every Killer.
You can level up Freddy afterwards.
OR: If you can wait for Nurses Calling, you can level up Freddy and hope for Nurses Calling in the Shrine. However, this can take a while since there are only 2 Killer Perks per Week in the Shrine and there are quite a lot of Killer Perks.
Yeah I was thinking about waiting until it appeared in the shrine of secrets but I think it appeared a few months ago so it could take quite some time before it appears again.

@EvilJoshy said:
The devs wonder why killers dont stick around. The whole purpose of DLC is to get new meat in the grinder so the survivor mains can have a game.
When you go up against a swf group it basically acts as an additional perk that the killer doesn't have access to. Because even when you die you can still feed information to your team.
I've only been playing this game for a few months now and I've gone against survivors that clearly know how to take advantage of each Killers' weakness. Not to mention they know how to take advantage of the limited field of view that Killers have. Between work and being a parent I only have a few hours a day to play this game, and in the beginning I would get a fair balance of matches that were both fun and challenging, but I've never gotten worked over like I do right now. And I got to admit that I don't see myself sticking with Killer anymore if this continues.

For fuk's sake. I said i wasnt claiming it was the best build, just what i run with. I said to each their own, whatever fits your playstyle. and here you are, trying to lecture. I play to kill. I dont care about pips or points. Dont try to give me math lessons. I wasnt the one on here asking for tips, because I dont need any.
Wow. Either you're the most sensitive person alive, or you're incapable of discerning what constitutes a "lecture".

There is a YouTuber called Not Otzdarva that made a video on builds to use on every killer, doc included, that only include their teachables and base perks. I recommend that you watch that. I'll try to find the video and what perks he suggested.
EDIT: I just looked at the video and it was before the doctor was reworked so the video might be outdated for you. The four perks he recommended were Sloppy Butcher, Distressing, Thrill of the Hunt and No One Escapes Death. I would recommend the first two as they are great perks that play into his strengths of game slow down and info gathering by using static blast. The latter two I'm iffy about. Thrill makes cleansing totems take longer so that helps out with NOED in the late game. I know that some people dislike using NOED, myself included, so you can decide if you want to use these perks.
Although it's a good perk, I wouldn't recommend Monitor and Abuse on doctor personally. Doctor wants a big terror radius to find survivors with his static blast. Monitor reduces your terror radius outside of a chase but increases it in a chase. Usually you would want to use your blast when your looking for someone, but monitor would hinder that by decreasing the range of the blast. There are some builds on doc that monitor is good for but for a general build I would get something else.
Another perk I wouldn't use would be Knock Out. If a survivor is in tier 3 and on the ground, they still scream and give away their position, which makes Knock Out useless.
Yeah I kinda figured that M&A wouldn't necessarily be a good perk since the doctor is stronger with a bigger terror radius. Personally I'm finding that using sloppy butcher with Bloodhound is a great combo! But I easily see myself replacing Bloodhound for Nurse's calling once that's unlocked.

I use distressing, overcharge, unnerving presence and either huntress lullaby or NOED. Im not saying its the best, but its what i like to run with. To each their own, whatever fits your playstyle. Its one of the few killers I dont use whispers on. He doesnt need it. They are screaming constantly. And they pop alot of gens from overcharge. I dont use BBQ because Im already getting 100% bonus from distressing. I usually get 3 or 4 kills with that build. Youre pretty new so if you didnt already know , Shock them right before they get to pallet and they cant drop it. Same with flashlight and unhooking.
Distressing only gives you 100% more bonus points in one category whereas BBQ gives you up to 100% more blood points based on your final score. So for example if you finished with 25,000 blood points and you managed to hook everyone at least once, you'll get a total of 50,000 blood points, assuming of course you have BBQ at level three.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/154864/doc-build
There are problems with that build. Monitor is actually bad with Doctor since you want to use your static blast while not in a chase. This means with Monitor your static blast will have smaller radius which is anti synergy. Overwhelming presence is a pretty useless perk in my opinion. Overcharge only works against new players as later on survivors wont struggle with skill checks. Distressing is fine for now.
A META Doctor build looks something like this:
Discordance
BBQ
STBFL
Pop goes the weasel.
You can move some perks in and out but this would be overall META.
A beginner Doctor build can look like this:
Whispers
Sloppy Butcher
Bittur Murmur
Distressing
Whispers and Murmur give out information. Youβll never miss your static blasts with whispers. Sloppy butcher helps by slowing down the game a bit. Distressing has synergy with static blast which is pretty solid.
I agree that M&A is actually pretty bad for the Doctor. It's awesome for stealth killers as it lowers your terror radius when you're not in a chase, but stealthy the Doctor is not! I mean the guy is like 10ft tall!π
As I said earlier, until you get better perks that regress gens, you can't go wrong with Whispers, Bloodhound, and Sloppy Butcher. Blood shows up like orange juice with Bloodhound, and Sloppy Butcher ensures that a survivor is constantly leaving a bright trail for you to follow, even if they're not leaving scratch marks.
-
I'll never understand why a killer facecamps. Personally I think the devs have done all they can to ensure that such a playstyle isn't rewarded. You get a pitiful amount of bloodpoints for doing next to nothing, and you're guaranteed to depip. Other than that I don't know what else could be done.
-
Thank you all for the advice! Until I have better teachables unlocked, I'm currently running Whispers, BBQ, Sloppy Butcher, and Distressing/Bloodhound. That Bloodhound and Butcher combo can be so good, and combined with Whispers can make it very hard to get away from the Doctor!
-
Most of the best perks for Doctor are tied to other characters (unnerving, nurse's calling, etc), but since I don't have those unlocked right now I like running Whispers to know when it's best to fire off shock therapy, sloppy butcher and bloodhound to ensure a survivor can't escape, and BBQ for the bloodpoints and location.

The BP bonuses off BBQ far outweigh those of distressing. My current doc build is distressing, BBQ, haunted grounds and STBFL. Shock therapy is an anti-loop mechanic that can force pallets down early so no need for brutal strength or any loop perks. If you get someone at a pallet loop just keep blasting them with shock therapy, even if you don't force the pallet down you'll at least pacify them into snapping out of it before they can do anything constructive (repairing, healing, cleansing and the big one, flashlighting!).
Yeah this is one of the reasons why I wanted to start playing with the doctor. Since I'm new to the game I don't know the layout of all the maps yet, and having a killer that I can farm bloodpoints from but is also good at breaking up loops is something that can benefit a new player like myself.

No, you're not mistaken but the larger terror radius benefits your static blast more so that's why the calm add-ons do the work of distressing but only when you need it. I recommend running BBQ for both the bloodpoints and aura readings. Hook someone and if you don't see all remaining auras, fire off a static blast to find the missing survivor (s).
Ok, that makes sense. I know distressing also gives you more blood points, but I'm assuming if you have barbecue and chili it probably doesn't make much of a difference, huh? Like I said I'm stuck using either the doctors perks or random perks outside of barbecue.
-
@RaSavage42 said:
Doc does like to have a big TR but not Distressing... use Calm series of addons
Whispers is awesome with Doc... Overcharge isn't great by any means but if you don't have anything else it's fine
Any Gen information perk is good on doc so you know where to go to get whispers active
Oh and shock is more about accuracy then spam... timing is also needed to get full value from shock and static blast attacks
Thanks! But I thought distressing was a good perk to have for the doctor. I thought that having a bigger terror radius meant that his shock attack would also have a bigger radius. Was I mistaken?
-
As a new player to this game it can be tough going up against people far above my level, but it's even worse when I get Killers that face camp. Ghostface killers are particularly prone to do this. Why? I don't know. It is sad but I agree with others that when you see a killer face camping, you just need to team up together and gen rush as many generators as you can. Face camping is incredibly dumb and serves no purpose. The Killers wind up with a pitiful amount of blood points, and they get a low overall score that can make them depip.

Sure, i get it. It would be sweet to be allowed a honeymoon phase and learn the finer details at a snails pace but with a 3 year old, asymmetrical yada yada everyone knows the meta by now just by watching youtube. So thats not possible anymore.
Just take it as a rite of passage, an initiation/hazing into the brotherhood. Or if youre a realist, a true representation of what's to come since good survivors on a team will always hand your ass to you unless youre sweating hard or using an A tier killer.
But the flaw with that logic is that games like Dead by Daylight live and die by their player base. Live services like this need new players in order to keep turning a profit, and "initiation through hazing" is the wrong way to go about that.

I haven't been playing for too long, and I've mostly played survivor. I recently tried playing killer so I can complete the killer challenges in the Tome. So, I'm a rank 18 killer, and in every match I'm up against at least one red rank survivor. I try to see these matches as learning experiences, but it does get pretty frustrating after a while. I've heard that this has been a problem since release... Really?
These experiences are what make the "git gud" comments so deflating. In order to get better at any game, you need a fair and balanced experience. And that can't happen when you're being paired up against survivors that have clearly been playing this game for years. It's like throwing someone into a pool that's never been swimming before and expecting them to compete alongside Olympic athletes.

a lot of people complain about the match making that seems to be a broken system, i maybe wrong but i was wondering (as you said you was an ok player) if the match making system is based off how well you are doing. i seem to get level 1 killers when im around level 7-4 and doing well but if im getting hooked killed or just a poor performance i tend to find the killers become lower rank for a short time, as seems to happen in other PVP games. as i said i maybe wrong its just a thought.
A matching system based on skill is what the devs have been teasing for awhile now. It hasn't been implemented yet, but hopefully we'll see a big improvement when it goes live.

See the broken matchmaking works for me because I'm only a sometimes killer player so by the time I get to killer I've been deranked to the high teens. I by no means think I'm good enough to play against red ranks, but I'm a red rank survivor so I understand the strats that they try to pull which certainly helps. Last night I had 4ks against red rank survivors and lower with the doctor, the wraith and Legion. Maybe find a killer that works better for you. I'm seeing someone post Pig and Shape matches...they're not the best unless you've been making them for years.
But therein lies the problem. It's hard to find a killer that works for you if you're not really being given a fair chance to play the game. As you could see my level 10 Freddy only have 3 perk slots unlocked, two of which are level 1 perks, yet I'm being matched against survivors that were more than 10 levels under mine. If I was naturally a red ranked player then I could understand that, but I'm not. But my level doesn't even come close to those other levels.

Sorry but if the killer gets 25k points for camping, that's the survivors fault. Do gens and leave instead of feeding the killer points.
If you happen to be a new player it's really hard to get better at the game if you're never allowed to get back into it upon being hooked. And only looking out for yourself is a really bad way to play as a team.

That wouldn't work at all survivors can abuse that I'm every match. They could be looping the killer around you on hook or they could be hiding around your hook area and the killer knows that either because of hearing, whispers, or like barbecue and the killer is gonna look around for that said person.
There needs to be something in place though. There's nothing more frustrating than knowing that you ended a match with a meager 5000 blood points or less because the killer never left your side, whereas the killer still walked away with 25,000 bloodpoints.

Don't get me wrong I'm not by any stretch a great player lol but I get 4k's here and there, usually at least 2 and I'm OK with that as I know I'm getting better and understanding the maps more. That is how the ranking system works, actually. You can get a 4k and depip, losing a rank. You can get a 0k, and rank up. Like, how many hooks did you get? The amount of bps you got indicates that you were able to pressure them. They may have escaped, but my guess is that you made them work for it.
Pressuring survivors is a sound tactic that I try to incorporate in every game. Sadly though it's all I can do when I don't have the proper perks that would make a world of difference (BBQ & chili, Nurse's calling, etc) for the killers that I like to use. And if you fail to kill many survivors let alone hook them, then you get a paltry amount of bloodpoints which makes obtaining higher level perks a pain to get.
-
@PBsamichShoe said:
I've had those matches too, I'm in noobie ranks and getting matched with red ranks.
I've had good luck with trapper running distressing paired with unnerving presence. If I ever unlock infectious fright that would go well with those two perks also.
You need to focus on perk combos that boost or complement each other. Same strategy with add ons and try to use ones that will slow the match down. I like running the add ons for trapper that add mangled or hemorage effects. It slows down the match forcing survivors to self heal unless they want to die.
To be good at trapper you need to play a lot of survivor to understand where the best spots to place traps are on each map. Myers is next to impossible for me, I just can't deal with how slow he moves at low levels so I haven't bothered to level him up.
I always try to focus on patrolling gens as priority number one, then chases etc. This usually gets me at least 1-2 kills and plenty of BP.
Which isn't to say the MM isn't absolute garbage. Because it is. I still end up getting matches where everyone escapes and teabags the whole time, but just trying to offer constructive advice.
I do appreciate those of you who have tried to help and haven't been dicks about it. But it drives me nuts when I hear people tell me that I just need to learn to do things differently. It's hard to learn and adjust to what perks you have when you're not being given a fair opportunity to practice with those said perks. This isn't a FPS where the mechanics are easy to understand and fairly straight-forward.
For example, if you're playing as a survivor and the killer is clearly more experienced than you, it gets real hard to learn the basics of the game (let alone the perks) if you can barely survive for more than 2 minutes. And that's not a fault on the more experienced player, that's a fault on the matchmaking system.

I feel your pain. I like the game to much to quit, but damn it's frustrating when 75% of your matches are like this. Ignore what killer and perks I used, and just focus on the ranks people. I'm hopeful that they fix match making some how, and make it so that matches are challenging, but somewhat fair for both sides as far as skill level is concerned.
I KNOW!!! The game can be so much fun to play but it can also be a kick in the nuts!!!π And I personally don't care for that over and over again! LOL

Um...ok? Dude you got second place. Sacrificing survivors may technically be your primary objective, but that's still only a quarter of the game. Although, being a Legion main might be affecting what I consider to be fun...
You get bloodpoints based on the items you use and your actions. Just because I managed to check off a lot of things that gave me blood points doesn't mean I came in "second place". This isn't call of duty. The ranking system isn't built like that. You either killed survivors or they escaped.
-
@Tactless_Ninja said:
How are they supposed to fix mm? If it pulls out the closest players to your rank and puts them in your game, logically you're not going to always get rank 18 all the time. Especially if it's to be expected that these same players will be ranking up as they play.
You guys just want bots.
Which is why the game shouldn't be matching you with season levels, but instead player levels. I just started playing the game last week, and there's no way that another player with a season level of 1-10 happens to be on the same player level as me.
And yes bots may make the game easy, but it's a better option for newer players instead of being thrown into a game that you don't know how to play. The devs did that for Friday the 13th, so I see no reason why the same couldn't be possible for DBD.
-
@NoShinyPony said:
This game is unbalanced & the matchmaking is bad. I won't encourage anyone to play killer. If you can't find fun in playing survivor, then it is how it is.
The downside about all of this is that there is fun to be had, but swf and exploits like body blocking make this game a nightmare for new players.
-
@survivorsunite said:
Don't give up. Just because they're at a 1 or a 4, and you're at a 17 or whatever, don't mean they're better. I was a 13 yesterday, and got matched up with a rank 1 survivor, and like a rank 9 killer, and made it out alive, while the rank 1 survivor died, and I'm now at rank 12. (:
I'd have to disagree. In order to remain at a lower level you have to be consistent at playing well. Plus when you're a new player like me, there are exploits that more experienced gamers are familiar with that turn the fun factor way down for newer players like myself. Perfect example: body blocking. It's hard enough when you are the killer in a SWF match, but it's even worse when those very survivors are throwing themselves in front of you to prevent you from being able to hook someone.
-
Yeah I don't know if the devs are testing out a new MM system, but last night I was being paired with players that were easily 10 levels or more lower than my level. And being a new player they proceeded to walk all over me.
I wish the game had bots. It might make the game easy, but it's better than being destroyed every match.

Yeah this was my latest match. I'm done. Goodbye DBD. You were fun, but seriously, f*** your matchmaking system.
-
If they're going based on how you play, then I can certainly guarantee I don't play on the same level as a rank 1!
-
Thanks all! I was laying off the charge attack because I thought it didn't apply.
Being a new player I wish DBD gave you a more extensive trial without having to be thrown straight into an online game. It's like learning how to swim by being thrown into the deep end of the pool.
-
I would like to think that it would be a balance of your season level and your overall level, but most likely it's tied to season only which makes it incredibly frustrating for new players.
I'm a new player, and I played a killer match recently where I got paired up with level 5 survivors which is nuts for a level 17 killer. I got lucky and managed to get a 4k, but 9/10 that doesn't happen for me when going up against far higher levels than myself
-
One of the survivors quit while the game was loading so nothing took place, but admittedly I'm kinda glad because the matchmaking for this round was nuts! The levels are so scattered that it gives the impression that there is no matchmaking system.

I would rather go for performance in game. If you are in a chase, how long does the chase last? Killer are better the shorter the chase, for survivors the opposite is true.
How many saves do you make (pallet, flashlight, protection hits, hook sabotage, head on), how many skillchecks do you fail, how many time do you spend overall on doing any task (gens, totems, healing)?(with a different weight if you are doing them in close range to the killer, no matter the terror radius).
As killer how easy do you find survivors, how long are your chases, how often is a survivor rescued from your grip, how long does it take to hook someone, hmm, as survivors i find way more idicators. Killer is mostly chases and finding...maybe a metric for map pressure, but i dont know what you could take for that.
I think that's a perfectly reasonable expectation to have of a matchmaking system. The only downside is that I don't think the developers would be willing to invest in that intricate of a matchmaking system this late into the game. I could see this working for a possible sequel, but dead by daylight has been around for four years now, and I don't see the devs investing in something that complex.

But thats actually what i expect. They should come up with a fair metric to measure skill (and i know that is not an easy task), because otherwise, the new matchmaking system will not be much better.
No doubt a matchmaking process that looks into your overall level and your season level maybe? I know they don't want increase the long queue times that people are facing, but at the same time newer players are facing experienced players far too often which causes newer players to stop playing all-to-gether. And the only way this game is a able to continue thriving is to be able to recruit newer players, and that can't be done so long as the current matchmaking process exists.

Problem is, playing red rank survivor for 2 years (and thus a decent devotion level) donΒ΄t turn you into a good killer magically when you change your role. They should employ some metrics of performance in game, instead of just time played (which is devotion, basicly)
It would be great if they could measure performance although I wager that would be very difficult.

it would be the best idea, giving devotion a reason to exist.
probably they're afraid of increasing queue times, but by adding devotion tiers (similar to soul memory in dark souls 2) the problem would easily be bypassed.
Yeah it's just a little jarring when you're competing against a killer or a survivor that is level 18-20 yet have level three perks and ultra rare add-ons.
