  • At this point I've all been given up on the MMR. BHVR has been touting this for years with nothing to show for it. Every once in a blue moon they'll turn it on only to turn it right back off for months. At this point I don't think there's any way to properly balance a 4v1 game. Either the Killer is going to get wrecked, or the survivors are. I don't see there being a fair middle ground.

There was supposed to be an offline bot mode, but for some reason that never happened. I think that would be a better way to allow newer players to practice because matchmaking in its current state doesn't help in any way.

  • I don't partake in most rifts nowadays considering that they are so crammed full of useless charms. The way I see it my $10 can be better spent elsewhere.

  • Unfortunately dead by daylight is not known for its stellar matchmaking. There was supposed to be an offline bot mode that came with the mid-chapter update, but for some reason it didn't happen and BHVR hasn't responded one way or another as to why. It certainly would go a long way to helping new players such as yourself, and all players in general to help them practice the mechanics of all killers.

Sadly there's no fair balancing in this game, you just have to accept it for what it is. Like you I don't like getting wrecked over and over either, but the sooner you can accept it, the better. Sad to say you just have to grin and bear it.

  • This is inherently one of the biggest frustrations with dead by daylight as I too find myself in the same boat as you. Trying to tackle the mechanics of a new killer at the rank that I'm at proves to be very frustrating since not only will survivors be very high rank, but I'll have minimal perks at my disposal to use for hours on end until I get more unlocked.

The developer update mentioned that an offline bot mode was supposed to come with the mid chapter update, but for some reason it never happened. All I can suggest is watch tip videos from streamers like Otz or Dowsey, as they can offer very helpful tips on how to tackle games in high ranks.

Laughing at misfortunes, including my own. The funniest are when they’re completely out of anyone’s control.

I also love making sure my characters are well-dressed, and/or aesthetically pleasing before the trial. Something about showing off cool outfits are fun to me.

Lastly, I stopped taking this game seriously for.. serious reasons, lol. When there’s too many gameplay errors, bugs, and frame-rate issues going on for so long, you’d eventually just stop taking DBD seriously.

This is very true. When you play a game that is well known to have game breaking bugs and poor matchmaking, you have to stop getting pissed (especially with yourself) and accept the fact that you're playing a broken game.

  • @meatisadelicacy said:

Lately, honestly, I don't have fun playing this game. I've taken months long breaks before but at this point I'm wondering why I bother to come back to the game at all.

Its funny too that you're running Small Game because I used to always run it and they nerfed it so I stopped.

That's why I run Counterforce. It shows exactly where the next totem is, and thanks to Small Game I can find it easily without spending a ridiculous amount of time looking for it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/270888/how-do-you-have-fun-in-dbd

I play how I want and ignore how others want me to play. I use what ever perks I wish even the bad ones and enjoy myself lmao.

Good for you! Yeah for some reason there's an unwritten rule book to this game that drives people off the wall when you don't adhere to it. I try to have fun, but admittedly it's hard when generators fly or more experienced killers wipe the floor with you.

  • @Kyxlect said:

I usually have the most fun being as toxic as possible to the Killer. His life as a Killer is already a living hell, so for me to teabag him at every waking moment, be it at every pallet, during his BBQ after he hooks a different Survivor or just doing it right out in the open it usually ends with them tunneling the ever loving crap out of me and even if they manage to kill me it tends to be way too late to do anything. So they'll probably de-pip and leave much more frustrated while I just sit there with a smug grin because I had nothing but fun. Welp, time for another lobby!

Dude that's horrible! LOL Playing killer is hard and sweaty enough!

  • @Heartbound said:

I just mess around. I had a really great game today against a Demogorgon where all four of us survived and opened the exit gates and just messed around until the end game collapse timer killed us all.

Another we just had people messing around on Ormond but I was trying to do rift junk so I just played normally.

If it's a sweat game or I can't find a generator I just get into a chase. I'll either die and move on to the next game or my shenanigans will occupy the killer until the gens get done.

If I'm playing as killer unless I'm trying to do something very specific I generally play with my food and try my best to get 12 hooks and 12 chases. If you die that's usually your own fault. I'm just messing around.

Sometimes it can be hard not to sweat, especially when you're getting wrecked in a match! But I try to let it go and just enjoy the match, which immediately can sometimes be easier said than done.

  • Nemesis's reach with his fist is crazy strong! It's almost like that was intentional because BHVR knew how frustrating his power can sometimes be.

  • @stikyard said:

Making a great save play for a teammate always feels good!

When the stars align and Breakout / Sabotage pays off!

Nice! I never thought about that combo before!

  • Personally I can't get past the controls for mobile, but I love everything that the mobile devs do for their game. Not only are the events and rewards far more satisfying, but they actually have a mode with bots. We were supposed to get one with the mid chapter update, but not only did that not come to fruition, but BHVR hasn't said a single word as to why.

  • Yeah so many of my games go by without ever getting to maximum mutation rate, even with the add-ons. Nemesis desperately needs a buff. The fact that survivors get a speed boost with mutation which causes no damage is a tad ridiculous, and the fact that it takes so long to get to his maximum power is also nuts.

  • @glitchboi said:

Yeah it's over sadly, I only got to participate for the first day and the night before it ended since I was on vacation, so that's a shame, but meh.

To be honest, I did so much grinding during the event and the blood hunt that I could go for a nice long break. Personally I was pissed that the offline bot matches never materialized, but I wager that the player base is going to drop considerably now that everything is over.

  • Well damn that sucks. Thanks for telling me. They really need to deactivate the shimmer because that's confusing as all hell. 😕

  • I wouldn't hold your breath for information anytime soon. BHVR isn't known for being open with their community. They've been talking about the MMR for years with nothing to show for it, and just recently they never mentioned why the offline bot matches that were supposed to come with the mid chapter update never happened.

  • @Pulsar said:

He's not even that good tho

I'll admit that sometimes the zombies come in clutch since they don't have a light or a terror radius of their own, but those moments have been few and far between. Other than that Nemesis is a strictly m1 killer. The fact that survivors can take three hits from his power just to get downed is ridiculous. I've seen some very smart survivors take advantage of the fact that infection provides them immunity from being injured INCLUDING a speed boost, and will use that as a means to get away from Nemesis or take the heat off of their teammate.

  • @Troman said:

I guess I'm one of the few who loves Coldwind, it's the most atmospheric realm and I have no problems with cornfield as a killer, only when I used to be a total newb, I'd lose survivors in it quite often.

Like I said I don't hate the map one bit, but the variation last night was not happening. With the RPD map now being reactivated, you would think the odds of getting that would have been increased.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I just hate not being able to see. The tiles themselves are fine. The updated corn is so annoying. Who thought it would be fun for killers to not be able to see 5 meters in front of them?

God I hate the corn! 😄 Finding totems on those maps is almost impossible without a tracking perk.

  • @GannTM said:

Which Coldwind? I hate Rotten Fields and Cowshed the most but the others are fine.

ALL OF THEM!!! LOL I don't hate the map, but it's all I'm seeing as of late. I played 10 survivor matches tonight, and HALF of them were on different variations of Coldwind. I don't know if BHVR has increased the odds of getting that map, but something's going on.

  • The matchmaking is what makes this game so incredibly difficult. Playing Killer is inherently one of the most sweatiest, most toxic experiences in a game that I have ever had, and playing solo survivor isn't much better.

There is no "casual" mode, and there never will be. Sadly there was supposed to be an offline bot mode with the mid chapter update, but it never happened and there's been no word as to why. At the very least that could gone a long way into helping cleanse the pallet after a sweaty, toxic match.

  • This is precisely why I avoid playing killer when my rank gets higher. I play this game for entertainment purposes only, not to sweat my ass off. There was supposed to be an offline bot mode with the mid chapter update, but it never surfaced, and none of the devs or the mods will say why. Personally I would have preferred to play that mode because not only would it give me a great chance to practice with Killers I don't normally play with, but what better way to detox from a toxic sweaty match then abusing some poor bots? LOL

  • Definitely looping. Not getting a chance to properly practice without going up against far more experienced Killers who shut me down in less than 10 seconds frustrates the hell out of me.

  • I'm a Feng main, and I prefer the rework. I think she looks a lot cleaner. The original design looked muddy, especially when you equipped her original hair. I think her rework looks especially good when you equip the blight outfit.

  • I find myself playing survivor far more than I do killer simply because at the rank that I'm at, I'll get sweaty matches with Killers that I'm not used to playing with. There's nothing I would love more than to practice with Killers I'm not used to, but I don't want to get steamrolled for hours on end. It's a shame we didn't get the offline bot mode that BHVR said we were going to get with the mid chapter update.

It also sucks when you have no other choice but to run the usual meta perks for Killers otherwise you run the risk of the game being over in minutes. I would love to tackle different builds, but I don't have thousands of hours devoted to this game. I don't know each map like the back of my hand, so I have to do what I can if I want to have any fun at all, and that usually involves using the same old tried and true tactics and methods which admittedly does get boring.

  • They can be the one to DC. It shouldn't fall on you to right their wrong.

  • Yeah I agree that the attention to detail is amazing, but the reason why the RPD map was huge in Resident Evil 2 is so that it gave you plenty of room to run away from Mr. X. Copying and pasting the same map for a multiplayer game however is a terrible idea. The sheer amount of distance you have to cross is not only incredibly expansive, but you have to do it across multiple floors.

Probably good to do it at LEAST on the last week of every month or on the first week of a rank reset as well as the first week of a new chapter because many people who aren't streamers might want to test the new killer/survivors out.

Like seriously having a long game and only gaining 50k bloodpoints from it is so stupid. At least if the grind was halfed I'd understand having a bloodpoint cap.

Yeah I've never understood having a blood point cap. Blood points are just going to continue to be accrued and spent repeatedly, so why have a cap?

  • @PyramidFootLicker said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2395257#Comment_2395257

That does make sense, probably the only way to practice killers you haven't tried yet is in custom games since bot games are still not a thing yet.

What's frustrating is that offline bot matches were supposed to come with the mid chapter update per the developer update, but as everyone now knows, it didn't, and there's been no word as to why.

  • Since they're most likely not going to do anything to reduce the grind, they need to be having blood hunts far more often than they do. At least that would be something to help alleviate the massive time investment.

  • I agree that our input has zero impact. Nothing we say is going to change anything. BHVR is going to continue doing what they want to do.

Perfect example, for years the community has been asking for a practice mode like what is in the mobile version, and per the developer update we were supposed to get an offline bot mode with the mid chapter update, but it never happened, and they're being completely silent on the matter as to why. No doubt it's going to get swept under the rug like everything else they said would happen in the past, like console optimization, etc.

  • Had we gotten the offline bot matches that we were supposed to get with the mid chapter update, you could have used that as an opportunity to practice Trickster instead of trying to do so in online sweaty matches. It's the reason why I haven't bought him yet. I don't want to get steamrolled for hours until I get used to his play style.

  • @Deferlo said:

Just played it, unless i missed something, it is still the trapper only tutorial, so maybe they delayed it?

But on a more positive note the first tutorial for killer and survivor is even better now, in both design and information.

I will admit that the redesigned tutorial is nice, but the fact that there is nothing to be found offline in any way is really disappointing. And since BHVR is being quiet on the matter, means that they're probably hoping that everyone will forget about this like how they mentioned console optimization without actually doing anything about it.

  • A cooldown on crouching? Look, I hate toxicity as much as the next person, but if you're going to let repeated crouching get to you, then I would move on from dead by daylight. Either that, or next time bring in Blood Warden.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

The tutorial bot matches are so useless and meaningless, as well as cringey

Bots custom matches would have been such an appreciated feature

It definitely would have been appreciated. There are killers that I have never tried because of the rank that I'm at. I'm going to experience nothing but sweaty matches, and I don't want to get steamrolled for hours on end while I practice.

I don't get a chance to play this game everyday and when I do it's only for a few hours, so yeah I would highly appreciate an offline bot mode like what they said was going to be there.

  • @The_Ghost_Face_13 said:

This is literally the only thing I want in the game at this point. I’m kind of over being told to kill myself after every match. Granted, I’ve disabled the chat feature now, but some of the stuff I’ve heard over the years just sticks with you.

I sympathize with you as I've had my fair share of toxic comments as well. It's easy to tell someone to just ignore it, but when you're inundated with it time and time again, it grows on you, and makes you regret ever playing the game.

  • @Aneurysm said:

@DeathByGiggles I think you were the one who wrote or published the dev diary where they were mentioned, could you clarify?

    More silence. What a shock.

  • I don't even bother with the rifts anymore. They're full of so many useless charms that my $10 can be better used elsewhere.

  • @fcb said:

since they already have a bot match mode, it shouldn't take that much time or resources. let us choose killer/map/perks. I don't know why they don't do it.

I'll never understand how the free mobile game can have a bot mode, but not the main game that costs money. DBD mobile had a practice mode up and running within a few months, whereas DBD proper hasn't had one in over 5 years.

  • @Pennywise said:

I can't see any option for bot games, it looks like the feature was delayed.

I hope it was just delayed too, but BHVR is so poor at communicating with their community, that we're left grasping at straws here.

  • @SadLegion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2389089#Comment_2389089

I dont believe its impossible to make an option to disable this logic. Or create a workaround like they always do, and spawn a bot somewhere in a map.

That's precisely what I thought would happen at some point too. Dead by Daylight Mobile already does this, so why can't the main game too?

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2389086#Comment_2389086

Probably because the game is built on the foundation that if only one person is on the map, the trial ends immediately, and changing that could cause problems (like trials not ending when only one person remains).

And I can understand that if you're playing on the servers, but this was supposed to be offline bot matches which wouldn't affect anything. Either they straight up lied about having offline bot matches, or it was delayed / canceled and they don't care to say anything.

  • @Maxthewicked100 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2388111#Comment_2388111

Its one of the reasons I stopped playing this game on top of always being the first to die in survivor matches because every single killer and their mom love to tunnel me to death (I only try to do gens, heal teammates and unhook when necessary. Hell, I even tried to switch characters to see if that'd help but nope) so the idea of having a bot match that may actually give rewards for playing was more than enough reason to come back but once again, these dumbass devs would rather stay competitive like every game company ever when a bot mode with progression would be scoring them not only more players but also revenue because there would be incentive to complete the rifts and their challenges in the bot mode.

I'd be fine if there weren't any progression at all, and just a custom mode, but with bots. I also found it highly ridiculous that during the anniversary stream, they asked for the veteran players to be welcoming of all the new players coming into the game thanks to Resident Evil, because they knew that their matchmaking algorithm would be pairing them up with one another (which should never happen). Expecting veterans to take it easy on newer players because newer players have no way to practice outside of sweaty matches is a tall order.

But considering how poorly everything was optimized, and the fact that you couldn't play the new map for over a month, no doubt already left a bad taste in those players mouths. First impressions are everything, and Resident Evil left one to keep any new player away.

  • @Hex_Llama said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2387263#Comment_2387263

Now that we see that the bot matches haven't arrived, I can re-read that paragraph and see how someone could have written it as an awkward, poorly-contextualized way of saying, "Related to the upcoming changes we're talking about, we're also really happy to tell you that, as of our previous update, new players can now play a bot match to practice what they learned in the tutorial before loading into a real game."

    It's still a bummer, though.

There's no way to misconstrue what was said in the developer update. The developer update literally mentioned "offline" bot matches for the mid chapter update. It referred to the live bot matches in the game currently, and what that refers to is what can be found with Trapper and Dwight. Currently there is nothing to be had offline in any way shape or form.

  • @Aneurysm said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2387483#Comment_2387483

That's what I mean, they suggested there should be something there.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2387760#Comment_2387760

There's been no response to anyone mentioning it over the course of this month or since the patch even if you tag the associated people while they're around so I think it's going to go the way of console optimisation/disconnection husks/early game mechanic and probably soon enough boon totems whatever those would've been.

Just silence, no excuses, no explanations, just........

    .......

    ....

Ever since the developer update I've been discussing in these forums how excited I was for the offline bot matches. I figured that no mods or developers stepped in to say anything because it wasn't warranted since it was happening. Little did I know that the reason why nothing was said was because most likely the bot matches got delayed, or worse scrapped, and they didn't want to continue pissing people off (which is something they're rather good at).

Resident Evil was one of the worst bug-filled chapters that BHVR has ever released. I mean, the new map was literally unplayable for over a month (and that's not including the poor performance affecting consoles), and now they either straight up lied about the bot matches, or it's been delayed/canceled and they don't care to say anything. I can only speak for myself, but I am so tired of supporting this game. I feel like I keep stepping back into an abusive relationship because I'm trying to convince myself that one day "they'll be better". LOL

  • Sure enough, I finally loaded up the game and discovered for myself that there are no offline bot matches, and what a shock that those we've reached out to aren't saying a word. They either don't care, or they've been told not to say anything.

The developer update literally stated in regards to offline bot matches, and I quote:

"This will let you try out everything you’ve learned in a real-world scenario without the stress of other people watching."

How am I supposed to try out everything I've learned in a "real world scenario" with just Trapper or Dwight, especially without perks?

For years gamers like myself have been begging for a way to practice in DBD. I and many others don't have a plethora of friends that play this game, so it's impossible to get a custom match going. And trying to practice while engaging in sweaty matches doesn't make for a great learning tool.

This was a big letdown in my book BHVR. You're known for your reluctance to be open with your community, so why am I not surprised that once again something that you said was going to happen, didn't happen. And the fact that nothing is being officially addressed in the forums after an all day discussion speaks volumes.

  • @goofydexter said:

Exactly. Why would they mention that "Bot matches are already available in the live version of the game", and not be talking about actual offline bot matches to practice any killer on? It has to be what they meant and yeah, for it not to be on this update is kinda misleading on their part.

    Source: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/262994/developer-update-july-2021

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LHNSEPFKV65N/dbd-png.png

Precisely. The bot matches with Trapper and Dwight is what is in the live version, so what exactly is supposed to be in the offline version?

  • @Boss said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2386524#Comment_2386524

But we still can't pick Perks and Killers and stuff, right?

Cause that's too bad, since the Developer update does mention "try out everything you've learned", which isn't true if i for example just learned i can Lightburn a Wraith with a Flashbang and want to try that out some more.

Exactly! How does playing with just Trapper prepare me for a real live match with other killers? The developer update talked about something completely different for the mid chapter update, so we really need an explanation here.

  • @Hex_Llama said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2386761#Comment_2386761

I'm also wondering about this. The impression I got was that we were going to have bot matches where we could practice with other characters, which sounded pretty cool.

Yeah I was expecting to have access to what we already have in custom matches, but with bots. How does practicing with just Trapper or just Dwight reflect a real live match if you can't use perks or other killers?

  • @Aneurysm said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2386524#Comment_2386524

Good to see you around @Peanits , this phrasing* from I think the anniversary event was a bit ambiguously worded but as the trapper bot match was already in we all took it as being able to have bot matches with other killers. Is this still something that's happening?

    * "Now, a tutorial is great and all, but it doesn’t quite compare to hands on experience. Before you jump into an online match, you can now practice in offline bot matches. This will let you try out everything you’ve learned in a real-world scenario without the stress of other people watching. Bot matches are already available on the live version of the game (click the Getting Started button on the main menu to check them out). "

Yeah no one understands this either. The bot match with Trapper and Dwight was already there with the chapter 20 release. The developer update talked about something completely different for the mid chapter update. So did this get delayed, or were they just talking about what was already there to begin with?
