Hi!
Just wanted to address one common concern I've seen from the community. "They nerfed Ruin so it wouldn't be hard for new Survivors."
That's not quite what the intention was. This is subtle, but bear with me.
New Ruin is in fact really brutal for new Survivors... because it is insidious. They have no idea what's happening, and they struggle to get gens done at all. That little zap effect when you take your hands off a gen? Barely noticable to a new player who's panicing because of the L3 Terror Radius they are hearing. It's not even noticable that the gen is regressing twice as fast as if the Killer had damaged it.
What we wanted to do was not "make it easy for new players" but "make it less frustrating for new players". In playtests with newer Survivor players, it was 4k with 4 or 5 gens up almost every time. But they didn't hate their time in the game as much because those red skill checks weren't in their faces.
I'm looking forward to playing on the PTB with some of you tomorrow; see you in the Fog!
yes but you did nothing to address gen speed, the reason behind that 80% usage and the outrage. Do you guys care about high rank killer? Like at all?
-
Honestly you can’t even argue they don’t anymore. Their recent changes and today’s designer notes are stone cold proof that the survivor experience is their 1st priority without regard for the killers most of the time.

So we really not going to address/comment on gen speed at ALL? We really not going to look into why ruin had a 80%(80!) pick rate? You guys are one of the most incompetent, out of touch development teams I have ever seen in a video game.

We expected outrage when doing a fundamental change to a perk used in such a large percentage of games. However, after playing with the new version, we're much happier with how it functions in the game as part of the whole system.

-
BHVR has no idea what they’re doing. They nerfed ruin bc it required “little effort” from the killer to be so effective yet Decisive, insta heals, keys, etc. all exist. That right there tells you all you need to know lol.
-
Exactly. If this change goes through the killer might as well go sit in a corner once the exit gates are open because they aren’t going to be to down anyone.RotBb said:
No, the problem isn’t camping, the problem is how strong it makes survivors. It’s a minor buff, but has tremendous consequences. The end game will be even more survivor sided than ever. If my first suggestion isn’t good, how about this one:Might_Oakk said:I don't see the problem with the BT change? Are you guys camping that hard? It's really rare I have BT go off and it's usually because a survivor just auto unhooks in front of me.
Intsadowns and the exposed effect will break the endurance state (it will negate it). -

Camping is a legit strategy and totally within the rights of the killer but it is quite unfun for the hooked survivor. The Killer should have his aura revealed to the other survivors if he stays with x meters of the hook for x seconds and not in a chase. It would be like a built in Kindred but maybe give Kindred another bonus to retain a purpose.
-
Yes, but it relies on the hooked survivor having the perk. I think it should be built in and possibly give kindred another bonus.inkedsoulz said:@SuperiorityComplex said:

If you use DS, you’re not a good survivor.Radiant said:if DS is a problem, you're not a good killer.

Devs know themselves DS is busted and is why they’re reworking the perk. Why are we still arguing about it?
-
They would need to fix her buggy hit boxes for it to be a remotely viable thing to add. I think it would be cool idea for an add on though.
-
1. It’s to not waste time. Everyone would just rather just get on to earning BPs in a new game and there’s no chance of escape so you’re automatically sacrificed.jl01102jl said:I'm new, and certain this has already been brought up, but I have a few issues that I would like to hear about.
- Why is the player punished for being the last alive? If never hooked, player is not afforded any attempt to hook escape, or allowed to fight for 800+ struggle points.
- Why does the killer not have a weight/speed penalty for carrying survivors? God knows there are enough hooks.
- Why is there no fall penalty for killers? This is exploited in nearly every game with killers shortcut dropping into basements instead of walking down stairs.
Again, I apologize if this has already been addressed.
2. Because they suffer from wiggling stagger of the survivor. Being staggered and moving slower hardly feels rewarding after successfully catching your prey. Also body blocking.
3. You can’t exploit an intended mechanic. -
If it comes to surviving in a video game, or sparing my self real life pain you can bet I’ll do the latter. The other survivors will get over it.MhhBurgers said:Struggling is not a choice unless you want to [BAD WORD] over the 4 other people.
-
Yes, but struggling/wiggling is a choice and you can stop if need be. The killer really has no choice on whether or not they’re blinded a flashlight, and the flash was too much especially when playing in a dark room.MhhBurgers said:@Bhazgrim said:
It shouldn't actually hurt to look at in real life on screen. That brightness was basically headache inducing. The flashlight still does what it's supposed to in game, but no one should have to endure a painful flash to their eyes playing a simple game.I get cramps sometimes during hook2 phase sometimes because my keyboard is ######### and actually needs to be hit hard, I remembers devs saying that it's supposed to be a crappy experience or else it wouldn't be a struggle.
-
Killers host only because it makes sense, if the killers leaves the game it can not continue thus the game lobby should just automatically close.
Killers get nasty looking hits due to the survivor being in the this “cone” in front of the killer. The devs have stated they are thinking about making the cone smaller and making lunges longer to help reduce it. -
I’d agree for a cool down reduction, and for it only to apply in a chase. I’m not saying it’s going to ruin a killers match but it’s going to make looping even easier, and allow for less mind games. A change which I think is bad in the current gen rush meta of the game.Jack11803 said:@SuperiorityComplex said:

Do you realise that the biggest nerf to self-care survivors is the healing time increase? It takes around 120 seconds to heal yourself completely if the killer is equipped with the anti-heal build. And it's awesome. Stop making a non-issue into an issue. Learn to adapt and play more, instead of making whiny threads.
Right because you can just adapt to aura reading? Lol. The perk needs to only proc outside of a chase or have a cool down, right now it doesn’t really have any counter play. I say the same stuff to people who say nerf BBQ and Chili.
BBQ is no where near same as Alert. Please tell me how a killer is supposed to counter having his aura read several times during a chase?
How do you counter spirits fury, enduring, or brutal strength? You don’t. It’s a perk that’s a weak substitute for voice comms. You may think it’s strong, but you’ll barely see any change in opposition. It’s only benefit that you’ll be effected by will still just be easier chase jukes... and that’s ok. After all a perk is supposed to give you a solid benefit.
My only problem is that it eliminates the possibility of more mind games which I think is a bad idea. Mind games are some of the only things that separate a mediocre players from great players and as more perks like Alert are being added to the game, the skill ceiling is being made even smaller. The perk needs to have a cool down in a chase much the same way as WoO does, and I really don’t think looping needs to be made easier for survivors right now.
Except it already did that. And it was incredibly #########. People are complaining how it’s info will ruin a killers match, even though it’ll just make the 25% matches against solo only players slightly more difficult, they’re super easy to kill now, it won’t make it that much harder.
-
Where’s a mod when you need one?

“Main” is just an overused trope added by the community to further divide ourselves by taking sides. It’s dumb.

Survivors mains coming in hard. Suprises me how many stay ignorant to how toxic some of the swf can be.

Nurse only seems too strong because of the looping meta in DBD right now. If stealth and stealth perks were more popular, nurse wouldn’t be nearly as powerful. Survivors are just mad they can’t click a flashlight and heal each other in her face and not get punished for it.

Maybe learn to get better instead of trying to nerf the only killers that are a threat to survivors? All of them have counter play and it’s on you to learn how. It just amazes me how many people would just rather nerf those killers instead of asking how to properly counter them.

Looping isn’t fun, but we deal with it. Slugging is apart of the game, and while I agree it isn’t fun, it’s something you just have to deal with.

I have no idea what AFK gen rushing is. How can you play the game while being away from your keyboard. Im not a noob and have over 3k hrs in the game and still dont know what this term/phrase is?It is more or less the same thing when you accuse killers to be a tunneler or camper.
When survivors focus on repairing gens aka doing their objective, killers use this term to insult survivors in a way which doesn't make sense. You can ######### about how fast the games are but blaming survivors is just dumb.
It is not just killers though. Survivors have their fair amount of nonsense to spit. My favorite is the term 'sweaty' which literally means that the killer tries to win the game. Apparently, it is not a good thing to do because for some reason killers need to provide entertainment for the survivors.
Edit spelling mistake

stop with the fake nonsense and give the OP facts
Ruin= “sweaty” BBQ= “sweaty” Nurse= “sweaty”
Basically using any good killers/perks. -
Not to mention all the people saying “killers just want easy games” is moot because playing in SWF is as easy as a game as it gets
-
I’m not going to respond to all the comments individually, but I say that maybe this thread was made of out a little salt but most of it remains true. I can tell you for a fact the tbagging, d strike, and looping is almost every game and it’s so not fun sometimes, and I feel bad for killers trying out new characters as I can’t imagine trying to learn nurse or billy, in the current climate of the game.
-
It’s not bait, if you take a step back and look instead of closing your eyes and saying “loop = garbage”, you’ll see that with the current balance of the game, looping is almost encouraged by the developers rather than playing stealthy and hiding. You get more points and emblems for looping, some killers and perks delete the stealth option entirely from the game and there are maps were you simply cant hide well at all, not the mention the ludicrous amount of perfectly loopable pallets everywhere. Stealth is not rewarded at all in this game as it should be, and that’s why looping is the defacto survivor tatic. Maybe if you would read the thread instead of being salty you would see that.Runiver said:@SuperiorityComplex said:

You’re right it is possible, but it’s no where near as rewarding as just looping, it buys way more time for your team and gets you way more blood points. This game doesn’t reward stealth play enough for it to ever be alone worth it. The example you gave for Freddy, and Doctor is extremely situational as I find most of time it’s imposible to hide from someone you can’t see or while screaming, and having auras say “ I AM HERE.” every couple of seconds.Doom_Punk said:@SuperiorityComplex said:

Looping is the only effective method survivors have to waste a killers time.
Key word : “Good”. A Killer that is good at tracking their prey should be rewarded for being good. All looping does is negate a good Killers skill at finding and tracking. It turns the Survivors fail state of being found and chased into a win state.
Survivor : Don’t get found, win. Get found, but loop the Killer for just long enough, still win.
Killer : Don’t find anyone, you lose. Find everyone easy, but get looped, you still lose.
Its literally punishing the Killer for doing exactly what he/she is supposed to do, find and chase Survivors. It’s a win/win for Survivors, lose/lose for Killers. Why would you not complain about being punished for doing exactly what you’re supposed to do?
Okay but you completely disregard that certain killers have a way to completely negate stealth anyway. (Doctor, Freddy, Etc.) Not to mention all the buffs to the auras reading perks coming off the PTB and things like the need for altruism that force you to be risky and expose yourself to pip.
Coming from a Jake main with 2200 hours, you can still stealth completely and pip.
Doctor and Freddy are not complete stealth ruiners. I sometimes get games where I never scream and are never seen, games where I never fall asleep. Games where I am found out once but never again. Games where I fall asleep but trick him with aura reading like he has BBQ.
Aura reading perks can be played around too.
The key to being good at stealth is not giving up the first chance you get. You've gotta believe in your ability to be sneaky and not lose hope just because it's Doctor. That's the way you get yourself killed in stealth. Persistence is huge, and even if you mess up, it'll teach you to stealth better the next time.
-
Yet you seem to neglect the fact that there are certain killers and perks that completey render playing stealthy useless and that there is a whole score category dedicated to dealing directly with the killer and putting yourself at risk to help teammates. This game does not reward stealth enough to make it a viable play option most of the time and is the reason why so many people disregard stealth all together and go with the looping option.azazer said:

I agree. The devs need to encourage stealth play, reward survivors for doing it, and build maps that promote it. With the current balance of this game I have a hard time seeing looping as a crummy method of survivor when there is no other rewarding way to play.Delfador said:Pallets and windows should be an opportunity for survivors to juke the killers and hide from them, not a tool for survivors to get to another pallet and window and loop the killer for eternity. However, map designs are not good enough for this. The only map that sort of fits this idea is lery's memorial institute.
The problem is that the devs intentionally want us to loop the killers and long chases. Just take a look at the 2 T walls with 2 windows in the coldwind farms and autoheaven. There are no good spots to hide but if you try to loop the killer around those 2 T walls, you will steal at least 30 to 40 seconds. Naturally, survivors will always choose the best option that fits themselves.
Devs should try to rank up and see the real problems in this game. There must be a hide and seek part of the game but at this current state, hiding is not a good strategy for a survivor so most people will not try to use it.

Except that if a killer decides to bring an exhaustion debuff addon things like dead hard, lithe, etc. will be rendered completely useless and sprint burst will still remain the OP king.RemoveSWF said:Survivor mains missing the point - you still get your exhaustion perk in the chase.
Sprint Burst will still trigger at the start of the chase, Lithe will still trigger when you jump over something, Balanced Landing will still trigger when you drop off something.
The only change is that after 40 seconds, you won't get a second chance with it. Logic is sound - if a chase goes that long, you're probably looping or doing some other nefarious exploit that's ruining the game.
Chases shouldn't routinely be going several minutes. If one person can loop for several minutes, the generators will be mostly done by the time the killer catches them. The killer has FOUR people to catch. Chases NEED to be shorter for balance.
