It's kind of enjoyable on Nemesis because it turns into the pallet smasher 5000 tour.

Yup. Although for some people it's hard to comprehend not everybody has 8 or more hours to do nothing but sit and play dbd all day everyday.
Why was the percentage drop for this time in 2020 a 10% and not a 30%, and why was the 2019 season of the same time a net gain and not loss? Your "It's because of the season!" idea doesn't hold water because anyone can browse steamcharts and see the numbers. DBD lost 30% between August 2021 to Dec 2021. In Aug 2020 to Dec 2020 it was 10%. That a massive increase. And in 2019 the population went UP during that time frame. So, no, it isn't because of the season or months. If it was, you could see the same amount every year, and you don't. And as previously mentioned, if it was because of the time of year, you could look at other games and see the same number drops. But you don't. Dota 2 and CSGO have gained players in that time frame. A lot of games have.
It's a DBD issue. Not some mythical issue caused by the weather patterns

Didn't get any either and I'm not going to go make some support ticket because there's no reason I should be forced to go through support for compensation for something you removed from me, that didn't actually have to be removed, and I don't really need shards for anything. I'll just accept that I got my cosmetics taken and got nothing for it. Sucks since I actually grinded for them years back, rather than the "just play Bubba once ever" requirement they gave. Maybe don't take the cosmetics away if you can't do it right.
I didn't care about the masks, but if you can't do it right then just don't remove them.

I have -0- sympathy for killers who admit to tunneling a player from the start of match. You get everything you deserve IMO, because honestly, as the Survivor who has been tunneled like that before, it's the most unfun, stressful, terrible experience anywhere in video games.
"Why are you tunneling me man, I didn't do anything the match just started"
etc.. it is absolutely horrible to feel this way and knowing you just wasted 15 minutes in queue + your offerings just to be tunneled out of game quickly by a face camping tunnel killer.
I can safely assume you have never played a battle royale game

Playing for hooks is more fun and lowers your MMR so you're also playing with people that play for fun.
Personally I see it as an absolute win.
Sounds like a very defeatist mind set, to be honest.

Well deserved trashtalk tbh, especially when you intentionally tried to abuse that place with offering.
I don't see any trash talk. Also imagine defending such things because someone played in a way you dislike. Even if a survivor was being a tbagging snot, telling someone to kill themselves is not okay in any capacity. Hell, people have gone to prison for it.

I'll give them credit they changed the add ons that made 5 boxes and not enough time to search them. If a crouching pig follows me one more time I'm just gonna sit on her.
In the same patch they gave her probably the most trolly killer add on in the entire game. Kind of funny. You can't head pop people with timer+crate anymore but you can equip vhs tape, rule set number 2, and just crouch infront of a box.
Which is apparently very skillful if it nets you kills.

DMS seems fine to me. Maybe it isn't, but I haven't seen any real evidence of it being extremely abusable. And even if the killer uses it, he's still using it with the intent to win the game. The problem with boil over is that people aren't using it to help them win the match. They are using it solely to troll the killer and make him miserable. The problem with the perk is that the buff did nothing to make the perk more viable as an actual effective perk, and only made it more effective as a troll tool. DMS is effective as an actual perk to win with now. It's not being used to hold the game hostage or force bleed outs or anything. It's the intent that is the issue with boil over. People are using it with intent to make the game awful for the other side, not to actually win the match. DMS seems to also only be an issue on a killer you barely see as is, where as every single survivor can use boil over to be obnoxious. Really only artist can be an issue with DMS (other killers are strong with it but not as good as artist)
You're going to come up against boil over far more than DMS Artist just because every survivor can use boil over to be obnoxious, and there's 4 survivors per game. Meanwhile I can play 30 matches in a row and not see an artist. Boil over is seeing more complaint because people are going up against it near every game. No one is facing an army of DMS Artists.

Yeah, I think the last time I looked they were almost as popular, if not more, than grand theft auto online.
DBD's most populous day on steam is lower than the daily high of GTAV players on January 27th 2022

You do have a point. A lot of people are saying it's because of the time of year, as most people play during the Halloween events.
It could be a mixture of both to be honest, moreso people leaving due to queue times and game balance.
I went and looked at various other popular games and while some did lose a lot of players Between August to September (GTA lost a lot, for instance) it gained everything back within a month or two where as DBD's last gain was half a percent in September. Every month besides that has been a decline since August.
-
@FellowKillerMain said:
Look back on their numbers for October-January of last year, you will see a fluctuation of similar proportions. You can actually see this year over year, and to be frank, their numbers are almost always going up.
However, if any other killer mains feel the way I do, I no longer play the game (haven't since September) and don't think I can ever come back. In regards to that, there are some tired problems in this game that aren't given enough attention. Also, given some of the interviews I've seen in the past 6 months, it doesn't look like those issues will ever be addressed.
Percentage lost between August 2020 and December 2020: Like 9%. August 2021 to December 2021: 30%+. That's a 3 times increase. August 2019 to Dec 2019 it went UP, not down.
-
People are saying jobs/school is causing it, but, then...shouldn't every game be down? If it's because of the time of year, every game should have a similar decline in players, right? But...I can find lots of games that haven't lost players or that have gained players in that time. So jobs/school doesn't seem the issue. CS GO and DOTA 2 have had gains since August. Some games did lose a lot of people right around August but have since gained almost all of that back, or more so. DBD has not. It's not a school/work thing.
-
I mean I know you asked for don't say buff killers or nerf survivors, but that's the issue. Genuinely that simple. Anything else I suggest or say is just going to be beating around the bush of the actual issue. Maybe remove half the dev team and replace it with people who actually play both sides and are willing to listen to people with more experience than them would be my other suggestion. A lot of people feel the devs just do not care AT ALL about what the players think (the fact some of the changes in the last patch went live despite mass community concerns is more evidence of that)
I can't give any other fix because those are the fixes. Much of the games issue (such as MMR being terrible as a system and inaccurate, and super long queues) are caused by a lack of killers which is caused by killers being weak and the devs constantly giving the optics that they don't care about killer players. If you want to keep the MMR system and have it function, you need more killers, and buffing them or making the role less miserable is the way you do that. If you want queues to not be 10+ minutes, you need more killers, and buffing the role is a way to get more of them back. The only other solution I can give you is to straight up FORCE players to play the role, having the game lock the survivor role out until they play killer, or locking the role out if too many survivor players are playing (which would be always) but those are terrible solutions.
The MMR system is basically hated by everyone. Almost no one seems to like it and the devs admitted it basically can't function due to no killers. People are 100% quitting because of that system and no one ever asked for it. Remove it and I promise you population would go up, even if the games didn't actually change, because the mere perception of the MMR system causes people to not play at all. A new game mode, like, didn't the devs say they are not doing a new game mode? So, why even humor it when they said no? The last mechanic they put in was boons and they're another part of the reason killers quit. So, no, I'd rather not have another new mechanic. I have to just suggest "fix balance" because I 100% think that's why the playerbase is declining. Not because people are bored they don't have a 2v8 mode or something.
The game playerbase is declining because the game is unfun due to bad balance on both sides. The only actual fix is to fix the balance. Adding a new mode or mechanic is a temporary band aid fix, at best.

Also, Also Developers: What? Killers are unhappy Survivors can get 31% of the wriggle bar for minimal effort? This is a surprise!
The devs wouldn't be asking that last part because they don't care.

A desperate survivor "facecamping" a gen doesn't stop the killer from playing the game. Why are you bothered by a survivor trying to have fun by getting to the next game. Suiciding on hook and running up to the killer is as much in the game as facecamping.
Do you get mad at everyone else in fortnite when you end up being one of the first few eliminated at the start of the game? You played. It isn't the killers fault if you're bad, got downed 5 seconds in, and then died. That's the game design. Try a different game.
-
"The killer is a bad person for trying to win the game instead of giving me a pity escape, but I am not bad for doing everything possible to escape" the ultimate survivor main take.
-
Yes. People will constantly tell you 1 second doesn't matter. But then why was it even put in there if it didn't matter? It's also really easy to hit all the greats since it's just a rhythm.
It matters. I have multiple games every survivor session where I would have gotten free if I had an extra second.
-
The match making basically doesn't exist because the ratio of survivors to killers is so skewed in one direction. The match making prioritizes speed over accuracy, so it will widen its parameters wider and wider until it is basically accepting anyone it can possibly find. This is because there's very very few killers in the queue. They don't want players waiting 8 hours for a match so the system will put together a match it knows is unbalanced solely so it can get a match started. The only way to fix that is to inject more killer players into the system. And that isn't happening any time in the near future.
-
You answered your own question "What the problem is now?" when you said "It's boring." That's the issue. And no, I don't think it's boring for the survivors because they intentionally went in to do it. They enjoy it. People don't generally go out of their way to bore themselves.
The answer is simply that it's unfun and boring to go against. It turns the match into a total slog that takes forever, can be abused very easily, and it still has almost no practical application EXCEPT to troll people. That seems like a really bad game design, to me. And this game has nerfed plenty of things before due to them being unfun and boring to face. Also a lot of people work jobs, so their time isn't worthless to them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new Boil Over is heavily contributing to the killer shortage right now. I know that my matchmaking has been complete kafka since yesterday, and for the first time in a long while it's everything I hated about ranks. A hardcore TTVer and his chums that finish all the gens in about 3 minutes - with me on Hag no less (my absolute strongest killer) using my best build and addons, and the next time I play Hag I kill everyone at 4 gens remaining.
Ugh. Honestly, Boil Over needs to be turned off until it can be adjusted. It's the worst sort of perk - not very powerful, but annoying and opens the door to all sorts of shenanigans.
My queues were a minute to two minutes longer than usual last night. But I attributed that to the event, and not boil over. A lot of people who play killer these days are incentivized by the higher BP gain of killers, but the event basically removes that and a dead survivor can gain more BP than a killer who puts up with boil over for an entire game. So there is no actual incentive to play the role unless you for some reason still enjoy it. I actually cannot think of any reason to play killer outside of finding it fun still, and I think people who still find killer fun are few and far between.
I am sure boil over is not helping at all, though.

You need to hit every single skill check perfectly to get off the Killer's shoulder 6.25% faster. That is negligible.
No, it is not. A second matters. I have had tons upon tons of situations where 1 second would free me. More than I can count. And if it's so negligible, why is it there? Why not remove it? Why sneak the buff in AT ALL?
And since the skill checks aren't like real skill checks, they never move and it's a simple rhythm. If you can play guitar hero on the easiest mode, you can hit these skills checks in the great section 100% of the time, especially if you play a lot. If they were like real skill checks where the great section is near the edge, then it would be different. But they intentionally made it easier.
I am again cool with the skill checks and like those but there was no reason to put the buff in and it would have been easier to NOT put it in then it would be to argue with everyone that it's not that big of a deal. I just don't get why it was put in.

People dislike the wiggle change because it was an unneeded buff and making it so it was faster was not needed. No one has an issue with the idea of wiggle skill checks. People take issue with how they made it so wiggle skill checks are faster than old wiggling. It was not necessary to sneak a buff into a QoL change like that. If the wiggle change didn't shave a second off of wiggle time, I doubt anyone would have voiced any issue against it. Instead, it gives you a faster wiggle for...no real reason.
I'm cool with the skillchecks but making it a stealth buff isn't cool.
-
What's funny is you can't do anything to retaliate, So you straight up have to just DC. Because the devs gave them a legalized way to hostage hold the game. Meanwhile if you bodyblocked them in the corner of that library for basically hostage holding you, you'd get banned. Slugging works in some of the situations but in others it really doesn't.
100% it won't be kill switched or changed any time soon.

I believe Boil Over is bugged, I downed someone at the top of the asylum on Crotus Penn and taking all flights of stairs I wasnt able to hook the person even doing it several times, Im 100% SURE I didnt drop from any distance and used the stairs always but the Survivor wiggled out rather fast like he had 2 instances of the perk activating, also the person using Boil Over burned a Crotus Penn offering, he knew what he was doing.
My guess is there is some bug with fall detection that makes the perk activate at normal stairs.
I don't think that's really a bug, at least not a new one or one that is ever going to be fixed. That's how it's worked for BL as long as I can remember. You can activate Balanced landing from falling 2 feet off a rock on a hill, or falling half a foot off the side of a tractor. It will often count even the smallest fall as "great height" but it's super inconsistent. Which is why adding it to this perk was terrible because the killer cannot even know if where he's going to drop from will trigger the buffed effect, because the effect is so incredibly inconsistent. So you have to play as if any height, no matter how small, will trigger it. I knew that would be an issue because it happens with BL all the time.
This is assuming it does work just like triggering balanced landing, which it seems to. And if people are burning offerings solely to trap you in a game where they can grief you, and you are fairly certain that's what they're going to do when you see that burned offering, you should just DC in loading. You shouldn't feel obligated to get bullied and maybe people will reconsider burning such offerings to troll when it results in them just getting kicked back to the main menu every time.

Boil over is far far worse than dms. You won’t see boil over in a 1 week, but dms could be meta
The only killer DMS is even a remote problem on is Artist, and she's really not popular. No one is saying Boil over is an OP strong perk that's going to net you 4 Escapes. The issue is the perk is garbage for solo and for winning, still, and the ONLY thing the change did was make it so it's a weapon for bully squads. No, you won't see anyone in a week trying to use boil over to win, and you won't see it now, either. You absolutely will see bully squads a week from now using it, just as you'll see bully squads bringing 4 flash lights or 4 head ons. Some people don't care about winning, they care about trying to ruin the other sides fun, and the problem with this perks design is that it gives such people a wonderful new tool while also doing nothing for solo queue because the buff isn't good for actually using the perk to win.
Unless the devs intent was to make it easier to bully killers, the buff and design is a total fail and it isn't healthy for the game.
-
You play the game to win. You don't just play it to play it. Why would the killer not attempt to get a 4k if that is an option?
-
@FruityCocktail said:
How did they manage to get ALL 5 gens done when you tunneled one player out of the game at 5 gens?
Also, Nemesis needs reworked along with Deathslinger and Pym Head.
You can't make anti-loop Killers when Survivors only have looping to survive. And looping SHOULD BE THE ONLY thing that lets survivors "rank up." Swan diving the hooked survivors and only doing gens isn't useful as being able to loop a Killer who refuses to concede the chase.
You act like the design was some mistake or something that the devs didn't intend?
Looping is less efficient than Shift+W by the way. I also don't get how any of that is relevant to an animation bug, which seems to be what the video is showing. The tentacle seems to be working but the animation is not properly playing.

Yeah which now leads me to my next mystery. If they know that it's bad why not fix it?
Right now it's just selling people stuff and keep it survivor biased as hell.
I've been wondering it for a while. Most people give answers like "well there's 4 survivors so it's because survivors are the main customer" but that falls apart because the game is asymmetrical and requires that 1 for the game to function. Survivors straight up cannot play the game if that 1 is not available. And we are now seeing the consequences of taking this sort of "business strategy." one side basically has to wait for ages to play now, and the other has largely just left. And eventually the side that has to wait is also going to get fed up and just leave as well.
I do not see any outcome from the long term application of this "strategy" besides the game dying. The only way this strategy even makes sense is if you only care about short term profits and don't care if your business even exists in two years. This stuff has been confusing to me because it just seems clear to me that the current path of the game is death if it doesn't change course, and the devs seem to adamantly be pushing on the accelerator instead of the breaks. I mean this last patch had survivor mechanic buffs and a nerf to clown of all killers. The Q&A basically stated they don't care to fix killer. They've also now admitted to a double standard where they won't nerf survivors based on high MMR performance, but will nerf the least picked killer because 2 people who play them at high MMR are good. They have repeatedly implied no changes are coming to killer any time in the near future.

We have tons of video evidence of queues that last up to 10+ minutes but then we always have these mysterious survivors who come around to inform us they are in a magical realm where their queues are instantaneous while everyone elses are 10+ minutes. Some explanation to this is needed.
Time of day isn't a great excuse anymore. My survivor queues are noticably longer regardless of time. They may be shorter at certain times, but still longer than they were at that same time 6 months ago. The vast vast vast majority seem to be facing these 10+ minute queues and not the magical 30 second ones we hear of from certain survivor mains.

Every game that has chat has people being jerks in it. It's not a Behaviour thing, it's not a DBD, it's a societal thing. Killers need to grow some thicker skin. DBD is still balanced in favour of killers. Instead of worrying about what they think after a game that you enjoyed, move on to the next game and figure out what you can do to get better. When I see a group of survivors dicking around and trying to play with me, I know it's going to be an easy 4k. Learn what to do when a team is trying to toy with you and you'll find you don't get toyed with anymore.
There are games that will ban you if you receive too many reports, or will put you in low priority queue. Why can't DBD do that?

Not sure how. The question the person gave him was about feeling burnt out, stressed, and unrespected as a killer- just because it ended with externalising that to effectively ask "what are YOU going to do about how I feel right now", doesn't change what the actual answer to the bulk of the question is- that if you're burnt out and stressed, take a break and do something else.
What else do you want him to have said? "You're right, killer is unplayable, we're going to buff them to the moon"? That would've both encouraged this whiny ass victim mentality, and been a completely wrong response.
He asked "What are you going to do to make the role less stressful." How is telling someone to play something else an answer to that? It's a dodge. He never answered what they were going to do. He just said "play something else."
I would have liked him to address how he was going to make killer better. Or just not pick that question at all if he had no good answer besides being cocky.

-
@Crowman said:
Of all the ways this event could be survivor sided, I would say this is a non-issue.
The event toolboxes are reskinned toolboxes that already exist, there's not an innate benefit to the toolbox besides the fireworks on hitting great skill checks.
The fireworks are one time use blinds that aren't the easiest things to use.
The extra BP has no effect on gameplay. If anything survivors are spending extra time at the start of the match doing envelopes instead of gens which is a slight benefit to the killer.
Far better than snowmen from the last event.
How is incentivizing people to play survivor more, during a time where queues are double digits, a non issue?

During one QnA stream (or some kind of stream it may not have specifically been a QnA), they got a question from a player who was, frankly, complaining and whining a lot about feeling burnt out and not respected as killer. The response was to say "if you're burnt out, try playing survivor for a bit- or play something else for a while, I hear Civ is pretty good".
People meme on it because they don't like accepting that it's just the correct answer, though to be fair it was not a great idea to answer that question honestly from a business perspective lol
People memed on it because it's absurdly cocky and unprofessional and he also completely refused to answer the question the person gave him. Cote should stay away from Q&A's.
