  • Legion and like Pulsar said, it's not close. They basically don't have a power.

  • 4? You mean 2, and they're working hard to make it 0.

They are trying to get Cannibal nerfed. He’s probably going to be over performing pretty soon.

His killrate was like second to only Pinhead's. He's absolutely getting kneecapped by the end of this year.

Anyone have any ideas on the buffs killers can get to offset the unlimited flow of information without breaking the game?

    Should said buffs be universal?

Tailored to each individual killer (will never happen, though)?

What about the idea someone mentioned regarding killer seeing these icons, too?

I think if the killer can see all of that, then it's too much info for the killer. But it also is unfair if the survivors just get all of it for free. I do not see how this can be implemented without either greatly unbalancing the game or requiring a lot of changes to core aspects of the game. Like a lot.

Me too. You'd hope they buff both simultaniously since simultanious changes are what everyone was asking for

The diary post to me does not read at all like killers would receive a buff at the same time. In fact they specifically state doing this is so they can "better balance killers" which implies balance around this won't come until after it is implemented. It's a horrible idea to push this idea through unless giving killers a lot in return. Queues are very long for survivor, game is losing players, killers are quitting. The smart move isn't to give survivors a massive buff that makes killer basically a joke role and then maybe in years they'll see about buffing killers. I actually think that will either kill the game or need to be completely rolled back within a week. Killers will just not play if the goal is to make solo as strong as SWF and then maybe fix killers months or years later. I am so confused by how we have serious issues with queues and how the devs borderline admitted killer to survivor ratio is really bad, but we're still going full force on doing things to exasperate the issues. The "solo buff" needs to come with a very very big killer buff in the same patch, but I'd bet money it won't.

  • @Kurri said:

At least until they nerf him into the ground because Killers adapting to playing him when they made the game unplayable.

Instead of just fixing WHY more players are playing Cannibal.

Would be a good time for the rights holders to refuse to renew, since Bubba has his own game anyway. Might as well if the devs plan to turn him into a future joke character like Myers.

  • Of course. It will be probably the single biggest buff survivors have ever recieved. But don't worry, in 4 years they'll buff killers!

  • I swear that library is nothing but trouble and could cease existing on the map and it would barely change anything. Gens don't usually spawn there, chases often don't go there, people usually don't wander there, but the section has had like 3 borderline game breaking issues with it. I remember during the RE PTB you could possibly get on top of one of the desks in there and the killer couldn't pick you up to hook you.

He was burned in a fire. I am sure his lungs aren't in good shape after all that smoke inhalation.

  • There's something almost creepy about how people have been trying to weaponize the devs by calling things they don't like "against the rules" or "exploiting." or "hostage holding" I've been noticing it a lot the past month. I don't think mass banning customers is ever a good idea for anything besides hacking or massive harassment campaigns.

As for the topic of someone actually getting banned for 3 genning. I think it's probably possible it COULD happen, but I'd think it's unlikely. I personally don't feel the devs and support team are often on the same page and that probably needs to be fixed. The support team has contradicted the devs numerous times recently. Most notably was with the Bubba shards issue that is still on going. So it seems like the devs can say one thing but no one bothers to give the support staff a memo.

  • Ranking up your grade? Survivor is far harder because you have to go out of your way to meet your requirements every game. I don't really even see it as debatable.

  • The Angry Video Game Nerd paragraph.

I mean he's already fought Freddy, Michael, Jason and Leatherface.

  • If the killer was so bad and didn't deserve any kills, then you had plenty of time to ignore gens and do totems. If the killer was putting so much pressure on you that you couldn't really do that, then he deserved his kills.

You know what else messes up kill rate data and is far far far more common than NOED? Hook suicide. Maybe that should be removed.

There was like a 500+ escape streak too

To help with queue times would some survivors be willing to play against a bot killer as an option sometimes instead of real person.

Obviously limited, maybe just 4 or 5 original characters on 3 or 4 maps.

You would have to play without a load out of perks etc but only because the bot killer would be basic too like in tutorial with no perks.

    It could still give bloodpoints.

Fyi im a killer and yes, i want a bot mode sometimes.

    Edit.

It would be opt in so players choose it, not randomly integrated

Not very fun to click at a bot and tell him he's trash. Bots don't have feelings.

  • I miss when the word exploit had a meaning besides "thing I dislike." If the devs could not forsee the add on being used this way then they legit didn't test it at all nor even really discussed it with each other outside of designing it and putting it in game. It's so obvious and people knew it within a day, but somehow a team of well paid developers were so caught off guard by this that it's an exploit because it was unforeseeable to them (like boil over abuse was lol). It seems the best way I have seen people try to call this an exploit is by asserting the pigs are all afk, even though I have actually never seen an "afk pig." I've seen ones blocking boxes, but that's not afk and they often do things like spam roar if you get close or move to look at people who come by, showing they again, are not afk. And rather than destroying Pig because of an add on put in as a replacement for gutting her other add ons due to some personalities disliking them, perhaps you should just change the way searching boxes work. Just make it so survivors can search a box from the sides. That simple. Of course, it won't stop pigs from camping a box and just attacking you if you try to solve it, like they always could. So I am sure it's not sufficient for some.

Or maybe it's time to give Pig a Freddy redesign since it's clear her design does not function in a way the devs like and most likely never will.

I think you've got some of your ideas about how to successfully play Mikey wrong.

T3 is mostly an afterthought for people who main Myers. It can be useful to get someone in one hit, but removing that doesn't feel like any loss to the character. Even before Vanity Mirror became a staple in my Michael builds after its buff, I sometimes forgot T3 existed. His main draw was his lack of terror radius (including at full speed when M&A and DR are used). And while he's always extremely perk and addon dependent, you can completely break the ######### game with the right combos.

Aura reading isn't what makes that build powerful. It's aura reading plus no terror radius plus regular speed that makes him borderline unstoppable. There's so much you can do with it, and your first hit is always free. Camping also guarantees an extra down, and you can mindgame and end chases like nobody else in the entire game since you can see through the goddamn walls. On a map like Lery's, you might as well be a Nurse main with 5,000 hours. There's just nothing they can do.

My wider point, though, is that I 3-4K 90% of my matches with VM/DR/M&A, but I'm much closer to 2K on average when I try a TP build.

I've played a few games with Tombstone Piece since this thread started, just because I don't usually bother with it, and while I can consistently get at least one kill and usually two with the addon, I'd probably be doing just as well to play with a generic Hair Bow build. For all the extra stalking you have to do, you could get kills almost as quickly by hooking people normally, and everyone spends the entire game hiding once they realize you have it (or denying it by hiding in lockers if you time it wrong). It's not OP, especially from the killer's perspective. Vanity Mirror is much more abusable.

Side note: I think having multiple playstyles was always the point of Myers' design in DBD. That's exactly what they want.

He's objectively among the bottom 5. You can do well with him but you can do well with a 0 perk blight, too, if you get bad survivors. Myers is bad, and I don't believe anyone who mains him really has much more authority than the 500+ streamers with tens of thousands of hours who feel he also sucks.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2794384#Comment_2794384

And all of that equates to Judith's being completely useless in any actual competitive game.

Tombstone Piece isn't a common addon, and at least it actually does something.

There's also a general consensus that Michael is one of the "worst" killers in the game, so I don't see why it matters if he has one addon that's actually powerful. It also essentially requires you to equip another addon to increase stalk speed in order for it to be any more usable than Judith's, so it takes up two addon slots, plus at least a perk slot or two for slowdown.

And how often do you see it, after all? I'm a Michael main, and I have fifty-something unused Tombstone Pieces lying around; it's not a staple in any of my builds or in any of the major Myers builds that I know of. It's a fun thing to play around with, but running it is a gamble considering that you need a good bit of stalk to use it to gain a competitive edge, and it precludes running any other addons and costs at least a perk slot or two on top of that.

Your only hope in using Tombstone Piece to gain a competitive advantage is to run something like Lethal Pursuer and try to get a kill in before more than one gen pops (and even then, you have to fully stalk one survivor and then go find another one to stalk), and then you can only get two kills out of it, max.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2794480#Comment_2794480

Tombstone Piece is fine as is, and using lockers to evade it should be removed.

Judith's Tombstone is useless and needs a buff.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2794528#Comment_2794528

On the contrary, Michael got a huge buff recently, albeit not one that many people talk about. Vanity Mirror used to be a completely useless addon, but now it's even more busted than Tombstone Piece if you combine it with Dead Rabbit and M&A. No terror radius, plus X-ray vision without the speed penalty of using Cracked Mirror.

This was one of the most brilliant things they could have done to turn Michael into a competitive killer, and nobody seems to have even noticed.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2794387#Comment_2794387

Yep. This is what Tombstone Piece is really useful for. 99% it and grab one of the T-baggers at the exit gates. There is no better feeling in this world.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2794706#Comment_2794706

It's not any more broken than Dead Hard, CoH, or the baskits of killers like Nurse and Blight.

You do have to work hard for it, and it's not something you can use all game or run without risk. It's not something you see in every Myers game for a reason.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/309115/why-people-think-mm-instakill-add-ons-are-fair

You can read my main points above, but Myers doesn't need a nerf of any kind. Half of his addons are complete ass, and the other half are so insane that they can actually make him useful.

I take issue with people calling him the weakest killer in the game because of Vanity Mirror, Dead Rabbit, and (to a lesser degree) Tombstone Piece, but nerf any at all and people like Otz might actually have a point.

It's too bad vanity mirror doesn't really make him any better as you are now literally an M1 only killer with an aura read. Imagine if the next killer was that. No ability besides aura reading. They wouldn't be considered good. The change was also muted by Shadowstep releasing in the same patch. Couldn't even use vanity mirror for weeks because you would get multiple shadowsteps and be turned into a M1 killer with literally no power.

People also want a buff to his kit, not a singular add on that massively changes how he plays, pretty much transforming him into a different killer. When the devs feel like fixing Myers, we can consider nerfing him. At this point he's so bad and so much of a joke that I wouldn't even want to renew the license if I was the license holder of Halloween. Borderline harmful to the characters image.

"Why is a multi-billion dollar company with a huge amount of servers able to do a lot more than a company that's a fraction the money and size? It makes no sense."

TF2 was made like 15 years ago so not really great to compare modern Valve to 07 Valve. And doesn't Behavior have like 500+ employees? I know games with THREE people on the team that are more polished and better programmed than DBD.

  • Would be extremely lack luster for a 6th anniversary, introducing the least known of all licensed characters.

  • I just don't think nerfing one of if not the worst killer in the game is healthy for the game at all. And unfortunately the devs have no plans to buff Michael, so the add ons should remain until they do.

  • Why would you make it so more people have their games ruined than currently? There are more people who would DC over nothing than there are hackers. Removing the penalty just makes the game unplayable for everyone else. I generally don't believe the people who ask for the penalty to be removed have any intent besides "I want to DC because I got downed early and I don't want a penalty." even if they try to bring up some other excuse.

  • @Weasdat said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2794129#Comment_2794129

It's no more an exploit than survivors healing downed team mates at the exit gate to prevent the killer from picking them up.

That's a survivor side exploit though. So, it's "tech"

  • I think it's weird we still use a pip system that takes into accounts things besides kills, when the MMR system only cares about kills. If I play Myers and tombstone everyone at 5 gens, I will depip. But for MMR I'll go up. Why do these two systems severely contradict each other? Why ios the entity displeased if killing=skillful? Why do we have a grade system that takes into account things like hooks, when the MMR does not?

  • @smartemarte said:

i hope this is a joke 🤣 the urban evader did nothing for most of the game hiding, hardly touched a gen. I looped the killer for the length of time for the other 2 survivors to do gens which is contributing. If you honestly think that it makes them a better player because they hid the entire game and escaped while i took the chase then i'm lost for words.

The issue is that person is joking but the devs aren't when they say the same thing he did.

  • ESRB ratings are guide lines and nothing else. They have no legal authority and are just a private group. The devs would be silly in a business sense to not accept any customer willing to give them money as long as nothing prohibits it.

  • I find it funny how survivor mains always attach weird emotions, intentions, etc to the killer. Often comes across as projecting. "HE JUST WANTS TO BE MEAN AND TOXIC!" "HE'S DOING IT TO GET BACK AT US!" "HE'S JUST A BAD PERSON!" "HE'S MAD!" "HE MUST HAVE HAD A BAD DAY!" "HE'S DOING THIS TO MAKE ME MISERABLE!!!" Rather than the most simple and logical answer: The Killer is attempting to win the game, just like you.

  • It's more fun than you tbagging and clicky clicking at the exit gates.

  • Killer won't be getting anything in return for survivors getting a free meta perk and you know it lol

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2790455#Comment_2790455

A survivors goal if they have an active trap on their head is to get it off, a killer, who has chosen a box at random from the start of the game prevents that being removed, ever.

Also, can we stop with the pedantics of "They're not actually AFK if they're at their desk" this is such a petty excuse to try and skirt the rules, if you're at your desk, and you're not playing the game you are "afk".

Your goal is to do gens and escape. Nothing else. You can add little extra caveats but those are just your own and aren't supported by the devs. Doing this is not against the rules. It's really that simple.

  • Gotta get them altruism points for that important pip

That's a totally understandable suggestion, I don't know how it would work in practice but It'd help for sure.

I think BHVR should identify the killers who have the problem powers and make tweaks to them so that camping is either less appealing or not impossible to counter. Both sides should have things they can do in the moment so neither side feels completely powerless (no pun intended)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2790016#Comment_2790016

The only counterplay to this playstyle, is if 3 people get their party hats off - they leave and hope the last person gets the hatch

That's not really healthy for the game. Funny though.

I mean it isn't healthy and IMO it's one of the few things killers can do that I genuinely consider extremely toxic. But I am just responding to it being bannable or hostage holding. Hostage holding has a very specific definition in this game and afk pig doesn't fit it because it's possible to end the game. Just not in a very desirable way. But it still can end, so it isn't bannable even if it's not nice.

  • Still haven't seen an artist in ages, but keep telling me how DMS Artist is an epidemic we must nerf now.

  • @lagosta said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2789690#Comment_2789690

It's hilarious but is a bannable offense. This is no different than body blocking someone before ECG, which was confirmed by devs in this forums to be worthy of a ban. Survivors cannot progress the game or the traps will activate and cannot remove them either.

No, it is not a bannable offense and yes it is different from body blocking someone because the game can end. Survivors refusing to do gens because they don't want to activate the traps and die is their own problem.

  • Winning tends to generally be fun for people. Far more fun than letting one go so he can tbag click click at the gate or hatch.

  • All this fiasco taught me is that perks based on escaping from the killers grasp are a terrible idea and we probably shouldn't mess with that aspect of the game. I'd personally just say delete the perk and replace it with an entirely new perk named Boil Over. Just like what happened to Tinkerer. It just feels like a design failure of a perk. If it's strong, then it's too strong. If it isn't strong enough, it's useless. I don't see a happy medium with such a perk.

What did I do wrong? Do you expect me to know when you edit your post?

also they still had a valid reason to remove the masks and they didn’t even need to provide a ‚compensation‘ at all.

And customers have a valid reason to be angry. Don't try to hand wave the devs failure. You act like this to your customers, expect to keep losing more players. Goin for -40% next month.

Good thing they haven’t done such a thing then.

Next time please do it right or don't do it at all.

  • I don't expect to ever get them. Would be nice to just not remove items next time if they can't do the compensation roll out right. And things have also been confusing due to mixed answers between devs/mods and the support team

  • The perk is blatantly unhealthy and at this point I don't even get why people try to defend it.

  • If I don't care about competition then I'd play a single player or co-op game. Playing a competitive game and saying "I hate competition!" is just weird. No one is stopping you from playing House flipper instead.

Corrupt Intervention shouldn't be base kit.

Pop Goes The Weasel shouldn't be base kit.

Not even less devastating perks like Kindred or BBQ should be base kit.

I'm so, so glad Patrick swatted this idea down when it came up during the QnA. I think there is an altruistic group of people who ask for things like this because they want the system to encourage a more fun way of playing or something that helps weaker players, but I also think there's a group of people who want to have their cakes and eat it too so that they can run their funny meme build while also having meta perks systemically added to their builds so they're not at a disadvantage for using meta perks.

I do not think that either group, however, recognizes that when you make a huge sweeping systemic change, it doesn't just help the less strong group of players, it helps even stronger players immensely. Imagine if, say, DS was basekit. Now you can run BT/Unbreakable/COH/Adrenaline and have the basekit DS to keep you safe just in case. Imagine what the bully squads would get creative with when they have base kit DS. Or, on the Killer side of things, if ######### like Pop was basekit. Do you think Solo Qs who have grinded their way to the top would enjoy dealing with Ruin/Undying/Pain Resonance/Dead Man's Switch on top of a basekit Pop so that the Killer can effectively spread out which gens they're utterly shredding? I'm sure the horde of Blights at top MMR would appreciate it.

There's nothing wrong with suggesting that base system mechanics be buffed i.e. kicking a gen without any gen slowdown perks or, as is coming in future patches, being able to know what your other teammates are doing in the moment. But the way to fix those things isn't making strong perks or even above average perks a part of the base kit and I'll reiterate how happy I am that Patrick also agrees that it's a terrible idea.

Huh? They literally confirmed BT basekit in the future is a possibility. Because they seem to really want to remove the last few killer players.

  • I think making BT base kit while not at the exact same time giving killers something equally as strong will probably kill the game or at least add another 5 minutes to queues. It's hilarious that in a time where killer players are dropping like flies, the devs and others are still suggesting doing more to cause the last few to quit. Is the end goal bots?
