The fact that you said "Counterplay keys" without using Franklins Demise, is all I needed to realize your post has no good point. Franklins Demise is the way to counterplay keys. Period. Anything else is just giving survivors an unfair advantage to win the match with an OP item that breaks the fun flow of the game.

I am glad that they asked us about horror games, it means they are thinking about experimenting with something that can improve the game. I for one would love to see Dead by Daylight have a massive overhaul in its design, make it more scary and horrific like a real horror game, but keep the concept of the gameplay the same. Imagine traversing through Ishimura from Dead Space and running away from a Necromorph killer, playing Isaac as a survivor. I am not talking about just acquiring the license to do that, I am talking about the authentic atmosphere of Dead Space rather than what we are used to seeing in Dead by Daylight. Imagine the horror tied to that! The possibilities are endless to scare the players while fixing gens, running through scary claustrophobic hallways with grotesque environmental decorations and jumpscares, all while looking out for vents from where the killer can jump.
As much as I love Silent Hills and am happy to see Pyramid Head as a playable killer, he and his map does not scream scary. His map is just a place like any other, with more stuff crammed into it but it does not raise any emotions in me simply because what I am looking at is not horror despite Silent Hill is all about horror. Do you get what I mean or am I just throwing a ball without a catcher here?
Based on the questions presented to us, I feel like the devs think that Dead by Daylight is a scary game to many when in fact it is not at all, it is just playing with a horror theme, but it is not horror. If they are just now starting to realize the potential in shifting to a more horror-based atmosphere and gameplay, I am all up for it and have been wishing this for a very long time! I think the game would attract a larger audience if they went for it.

I’m not saying to not have fun with some jeers against toxic killers, I’m saying there’s no need to BM killers who are CLEARLY less skilled than you. You know, the ones where you can guess their rank pretty accurately long before you see the match results. The ones who could have easily dodged and extended your 20-minute wait, but decided to play against you anyway despite the obvious warning signs.
I’m a 13, you’re a team of 1’s and 2’s. You stomped me. Good for you.
So why the circles and taunts and pointing and t-bagging and exit-gate-butt-scrape and clicky-clicky and constant vaulting....
There should be no doubt in your mind that my skill does not match yours. Please just open the gates, leave the match, and gg.
I think the killer role is fun, but I’m not skilled. I play it much less now because I only have a good time in maybe 1 of every 5 matches. For this reason I don’t really have the desire to BECOME skilled, because it’s not enjoyable anymore.
I play mostly survivor now, and I do so respectfully, but queue times are getting to be overbearing. Still, when I see a killer below my skill, I know it’s not their fault. Just bad matchmaking. So I play, throw them a couple easy hits, leave, and gg. Why can’t this be the way?
I know, I’m ranting. I’m just unhappy with people’s behavior in general I guess. The game just really isn’t so fun for me anymore.
They do toxic things like that to you because they can not do it against good killers, else they get the hook. They have time to be toxic and all-mighty because they know they can get away with it. You wouldn't bully a bully, now would you?
-
I can not think of any other perk as balanced as Franklins Demise. It is the only perk in the entire game able to counter toxic items like med-kits, flashlights, and keys. You take that away and then I am mad :(

I know that BHVR will change the struggle system eventually because there is no denying that it is exactly as you described it. However, when we will get to see this change is another story. BHVR is not best known for its speed of improvements. I can only hope they will prove me wrong and show us an updated struggle mechanic that does not require player action to stay alive.
And because I know BHVR is thinking about this, no, we do not want to see the struggling mechanic being replaced with Pyramid Head cage struggle system. While that would be a great improvement from what it is right now, it is not a real solution. Personally, I am fed up with having to do something to stay alive on the hook, can't I just observe my team in peace and relax for a bit?

Definitely yes. This is a no-brainer upgrade to the store - why WOULDN'T you want your customers to be able to browse and buy stuff while waiting for a game? As much as Bungie has milked their store and locked items behind paywalls with Destiny 2, they did the smart thing making it accessible anywhere in the game. I also discovered that if you have the store pulled up while you're at the Tower or some other location (network issues aside), you won't be disconnected. Smart design honestly...why dc someone if they're maybe gonna spend some money, right? Genius.
This is exactly what I was thinking as well. It should benefit literally everyone, the players and the devs by making the store more accessible and convenient.
-
@HellDescent said:
I think you shouldn't have to see adds for cosmetics when loading up a game. It should be kept in the store where it belongs
It is not ads for cosmetics, but the ability to browse the store while waiting for a match. No one would force you to look at the store if you do not want to. Also, this has nothing to do with loading screens.

I haven't used ruin/undying or even ruin for quite some time now simply because I know it is frustrating to play against. When it works and stays in the game for a reasonable time, it is almost a guaranteed win every time. But when it doesn't, well, it feels like the most useless perk in the game simply because you did not get any value out of it.
Having said that, I don't care about nerf, I would love ruin to be redesigned to do something completely else to slow down the gen game. It is annoying starting a gen, getting it to a good amount close to finishing, and then the killer comes and deletes all that progress by forcing a chase.
-
The very answer to your question lies within your own title. People have different roles and jobs within BHVR. The UI Team does UI, not fix bugs, they have their own group of people for that.

Thanks for the advice! I've been watching OhTofu play Billy and taking what he does into my games. I've gotten some curves but I got a long way to go
May I recommend watching "not Otzdarva". His skills in DBD are absolutely amazing and he even sometimes makes great lengthy videos explaining strategies surrounding perks, survivors, and killers from which beginners and average players can greatly benefit from. Even a red rank player such as myself has had plenty of new tips and tricks learned from him.
-
I am not a hillbilly main anymore but used to main him both pre and post buff phase (Rank 1).
It is not a matter how long you have to master him but rather how you spend your time trying to learn him. Watch Pro Hillbilly players from YouTube to learn what you could do better. Watch how they play and try to learn from that. That's the fastest way to grow with any killer. Then it is only a matter of applying what you have learned to use in your own game.
Hillbilly is all about speed. He is the fastest killer able to travel great distances in few seconds, thus perks that give you awareness of where survivors are can make a great difference for hillbilly as he is able to take advantage of that information and go to where other killers would not dare to waste their time to walk.
Also, do not try to force a chainsaw kill. More often than not it can be just as beneficial to just injure the survivor and let them go and go give pressure elsewhere while they waste time healing. Or if not, at least next time they will be easier to down.
Hope you get your Hillbilly game improved, he can be a really powerful and fun killer if you know how to play him right.

I still remember that one guy who shouted at the devs wanting to know if the new main character female lead from Gears 5 was into women instead of men... Like that has anything to do with the game or its story.
Sure, as you said, if it is required by the character's story, love interest, or something along those lines that are tied to the story, then, by all means, mention their sexuality, but if you throw it out there just to please a certain group, you are just pandering to the minorities who cry for not being properly represented in video games as if that is something that is their birthright.
This is not an attack towards anyone, I am just expressing how I see video games nowadays.

They’re finally getting what was asked for, whilst making sure it’s balanced, and you’re now asking “Was seeing Wraith from a distance ever really an issue?”
Huh?!
Those Wraith community people you mentioned do not speak for me. I have never requested such a feature because I know it would not do anything for Wraith. As I said, I am not sure if true invisibility would be the right answer, but what we are getting does not help, any red rank Wraith knows this is not nearly enough to make Wraith a better killer.

there are lots of possibilities still. but you can not always corelate FPS with Latency when this happens i'd recommend sending your information in to the devs when this happens and see what they can come up with. without being near your system it is very hard to troubleshoot computer issues.
Well that is true, these things can be impossible to figure out when not near the problem itself... Thanks for the help anyway, much appreciated!

I’m interested to know peoples opinion on this, after posting a discussion around if DS should be basekit to try and punish tunnelling.
Someone suggested that within, say 10 or so metres, of a hooked survivor and NOT in a chase, the hook timer either freezes or is halved in its speed, thus eliminating campers.
it’s an interesting concept and I’d like to hear some opinions about it.
I would totally stand behind that idea. If he killer is not in a chase and stands next to the hook, yeah, the timer should freeze or go a lot slower.

what other programs are you running in the background? are you streaming? on comms? solo queue? IT is correct that ping which is used soooooo incorrectly in these discussions has nothing to do with FPS. it has to do with how you have the system operating, what else is going on in the background and many other factors! I wish I could just list them all. but there are many factors that are not anything to do with the internet or even dbd servers.
I am just shooting here blindly, just trying to figure out a solution. I don't stream, I have no other background programs running while I play. I do not have viruses slowing down my games and programs. I have tried reinstalling the game. Nothing seems to be working. Sometimes the game works like a charm, sometimes (more often than not) it does drop the fps to unplayable numbers whether I am in a match or not.
-
okay since people are questioning my hardware for this, I just want to make clear that I have a pretty powerful gaming PC; Geforce 1080. Intel Core i7-8700, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10. This is more than enough to run Dead by Daylight on Ultra and that is how I have been enjoying it for a very long time now until some recent patches were introduced to the game.

I couldn’t agree more with this.
I just genuinely feel bad for all the new players who have a terrible first few games as DbD has no issue with throwing you into a ranked game where your team are RELIANT on a players competence without no actual knowledge or even a basic understanding.
Like i understand the help tab exists but that isn’t mandatory and how a game like DbD with all these mechanics, perks ect has no tutorial but BHVR’s mobile client does is actually sad.
(edit spelling)
Yeah the tutorial part about Dbd is pretty pathetic when you consider that the mobile version has things better on that part. I mean, it is obvious that the game needs a mandatory tutorial to new players before throwing them to ranked matches. Otherwise those who do not care to watch youtube tutorials will remain in rank 15-20 forever.

Blight.
I really liked his pinball bouncy concept, but I overtime began to hate his steering when attacking with the cane. Without the addon, the killer feels so frustrating to control. It's in a whole different level when compared to killers like Hillbilly and Oni who also rely on steering.

a lot of people don't want him and only what like 25% of the people want him and that's not enough because if we want springtrap then the whole community will be doing it but i don't see that happening anytime soon.
Do you have any statistics you can throw at my way about your 25% claim? Some pyramid or pie chart analyzes perhaps? For all I have been here on the forum, the most I see is Five Nights At Freddy's suggests thrown at BHVR. That and Chucky from child's play. Heck, now that they made the Twins with the tiny infant character, Chucky doesn't sound too far fetched of a killer anymore.
Anyway, my point is, I don't believe that it's only 25% of the community who wishes to see FNAF. It is quite a big IP today, everyone knows it and it is very popular among big YouTubers and Streamers. It also fits in DBD concept perfectly. I would not mind seeing it despite not being a huge fan of the game, after all, I myself have suggested it in the past, so my apologizes if I come out as bias.

I'm not sure what the story is, but every time I've seen this suggested I've heard they had it in a PTB a long, long time ago and it was abused to hell and back by Survivors. Again, I'm not sure how, I wasn't around in the game back then. If I had to guess... What stops a Survivor from looping a killer in the range of the hook, and thus it activates Camaraderie? The killer isn't camping, but still punished. Even though I said that, I think with adjustments this should definitely be in the game.
I don't see a problem there. If a survivor is skilled enough to loop a killer near the hook area, they deserve that extra earned time from the perk. In order to loop someone, one must have pallets or windows nearby, both which can be exhausted and denied . If a killer is not skilled enough to exhaust those survivor resources before comaradire kicks in or goes on overtime, that's their problem, they simply need to work on their chasing skill. Such is the nature of the game.

It's a meme perk. Also, you can make builds around it that are pretty hilarious. On top of that, a few other Perks do actually benefit from running No Mither. I remember watching a guy that just kept getting back up in the Killers face. The Killer stopped everything just to down him and watch him get back up like 8 times insanely fast. Everyone was having fun with it.
I don't think it needs any kind of buff to make it meta. If anything, meta perks need a nerf, or mechanics need to be adjusted to make them less meta-worthy. I mean, there are borderline useless perks on either side that give BP at the cost of a perk slot. Maybe give No Mither a BP bonus to solidify it's meme status.
Meme perks do not belong in dbd as a mechanic. People can make any perk into a meme, but arguing that it should not be touched in order to protect its meme potential is just ridiculous.

"Do you know any other killer who can be denied by survivor item?"
Nurse can't blink when a flashlight is on her (though you're brave to try), Hag gets her traps destroyed, and both Trapper and Hag can both have their traps revealed by maps.
"Remaining hidden can often be quite hard considering many maps are wide open fields with very little obstacles to deny vision when working on gens as survivors. I often find myself unable to come from an unseen angle."
I agree with you here. Wraith is harder to see but not really invisible on certain maps. I think he should be completely invisible at a distance, similar to Freddy to awake survivors.
"Another problem with Wraith is that If the survivors spread wide and work on different gens, Wraith has no power to create map pressure but is left chasing one survivor at a time."
Kinda-sorta. Wraith is a hit and run killer, meant to come at unexpected angles without warning but not meant for long chases (similar to Ghost Face). The problem is that this can easily be countered by decent med kits, destroying his pressure instantly since he's meant to juggle survivors similar to Legion (who is the one killer you never heal against).
"Wraith also does not have any power in end-game collapse when trying to defend a hook"
He can cloak and camp... no TR means no BT. This isn't fun nor is it something I encourage, but thought it was worth mentioning.
All around, I agree in that Wraith is weak, too reliant on his add-ons, and needs tweaks. I just wanted to respond to a few statements made.
you made some really good points there, lovely. However, by denying with an item, I actually meant direct deny. Sure, you can flashlight hag traps and find bear traps, etc, but actually stunning the killer with an item that leaves them crippled which basically grants you a free escape.

It takes 10 seconds and match start to run up to the shack and see if the steps are there. You should be avoiding or looping near the shack dependant on that.
I can assure you, there are plenty of reasons to run to the area of the basement despite knowing of its location. Now, I bet your next argument is "well, that's your problem then, you know the risk" but that only leads us back to the root of the problem.
-
As above so below: (Survivor perk)
If the killer is above you in X amount of radius, you can see the killer's aura. Likewise, if the killer is below you, the same effect takes place, except the killer can see your aura instead. However, in this particular case, gain a momentary sprint burst to exit the aura radius before the killer can reach you.
-
the problem with the current version of the basement is that there are killers that can insta-down players who enter the basement to rescue their teammate. Bubba for instance is someone nobody wants to deal with so they rather leave their teammate to die than risk a rescue.
Now if there was a second entrance/exit, people would be more willing to go for the rescue. A hidden door perhaps that needs to be activated before the second entrance/exit becomes available for the players to take advantage of. Similar to totems, the switch could be hidden randomly in the map and activating the switch would take time similar to cleansing.

-
Key does not guarantee an escape, but mori guarantees you only have 1 hook for the entire game before you get pushed out of the match prematurely.
-
It all depends on the situation and your/survivors' awareness at a given time. If you are about to start a chase against a full health survivor who is alone on a gen and that gen has healthy amount of progress already or about to finish, it is very good idea to kick the gen first before chasing after. However, if anyone else knows about that gen's location and can easily just come finish it while you chase the other survivor, there's no point wasting time kicking it and creating big gap between you and the survivor who ran away.
In another scenario, if the survivor is injured, it is always vital to go chase after them immediately, because more often than not, you are probably able to down them pretty quickly when caught off guard but if you stop to kick the gen, well, you just made your chase a lot longer.
Since there is SWF possibility, they can easily communicate someone to come to finish their gen while you chase them, which is a bit of a down side to this whole strategy. Here's hoping you don't get matched against SWF because that throws many strategies out of the window but that's part of the game.

Ah sorry. Just woke up, didn't mean to come off as aggressive. Just see this kind of thread all the time, ya know?
As for the announcements, they were made in the Dev streams, so nothing to read. We don't know when or how they'll be reworked, we just know they are. I can't remember the exact streams, but I know they mentioned Myers in the most recent Q&A stream. It'll probably take them awhile, since they're focusing on new chapters and map updates.
Well if I can take your word for it, I find comfort in this news. I want nothing more than these utterly broken add-ons and mori out of the game or changed.
-

For the last time. Keys and Mori's are currently being reworked, and both Myers and Huntress are confirmed to get a add-on pass eventually, probably after Clown.
As for "insta-downs" M1's, they'll never be removed from the game. Only a few killers have it base kit, Myers and Ghostface, and they have nothing in chase or map-pressure. Perks that give this are usually things that you have to work for, Devour and MYC, or last only a bit, like Haunted Grounds. Exposed is by no means OP. The only perk that doesn't follow this is NOED, but that's ah endgame perk, useless until all the gens are finished.
Where can I read about the announcement/news of keys and mori being reworked?
No, I am not against insta-down abilities like mayers and ghostface, I am against insta-down add-ons. Noed and haunted grounds is fine by me too. Exposed is not op, I never argued against it, you need to read my text more careful.

I dunno. Way back when I first got DBD I bought all of it, all DLC (up to Clown, Spirit wasn't out yet) downloaded it and played. Within the week it was discounted. All of it. So I called and got a refund to make up the difference. Granted though, that refund was in the form of codes to add funds to the PS Store. But I already spent that money on the store so it was fine. So maybe you can't really call it a refund, but I consider it as much.
Giving store credit instead of money back is not a good refund policy, it ensures the seller that they get to keep your money no matter what, so of course they are more than happy to "compensate" for your loss because in the end, that money is spent and they get to keep it, does not matter what you end up buying with it. However, if you are okay with that, then sure, no one loses in the end because you were going to spend that money on their products anyway.

Actually if you bought a game within a week of a sale you can call Sony to receive a refund. They are usually pretty good about it.
Sony is known to be notoriously anti-consumer when it comes to refunds. Yeah, they got the basic covered unlike Nintendo, but I haven't come across something like this. If you purchase a game from their store, download it and play, yeah, you can kiss your refund goodbye. Now, if you just purchase but don't download it, they do refund, but that's not really a fair comparison to this situation.

That's a developer who really put their players in first place, huh?
As much as that sucks, that's pretty normal business practice everywhere around the globe, not just in games. You don't really get prompted when a certain sale is about to hit consumers, well, not always at least. Look at Sony Playstation store for example. You might buy a game full price right now but within a week that game might be in sale for 50% off. Do you contact sony support and ask for a refund? That's just the nature of the business. If you are afraid of losing on good sales, just save up your shards, don't spend them unless there's a sale going on.
-
Plot twist, none of these characters actually watch any movies but claim they are well known actors and no one believes each other.
-
I love seeing springtrap in the game but his power is off-putting to say the least. I never want to see a killer in DBD that has a power which draws survivors towards it by force.
Rather, I love the idea of psychological lure like shapeshifter who can turn into a random survivor from the match and make players think he's just ally before they get too close and the killer reveals their true color.
-
I have purchased 1 rift pass in my entire history of playing dbd and that pass was the last one I ever bought. It's just not worth it really. Let alone locking Halloween skins behind pay wall, it doesn't make me want to purchase the rift pass, it makes me want to not support BHVR.
I would love buying skins regularly from the shop to different characters, but due to the insane price they are sold each, I rather stick with the free ones that can be gained via playing the game (as should be the case when considering the game is not free to play and BHVR gets continued revenue by selling Licensed killer DLCs).
One skin costs 10€. That's insane. If they were half as much, I could consider buying them but there is no way I spend 10€ for a single skin, they are not really that epic-looking in the first place. Great, yes, but not 10€ epic. Take some inspiration from league of legends how to sell skins.

Is there an "official" hooked survivor code? If I do short little frantic movements I'm trying to tell players stay away the killer is close or camping. If I just hang there it means "I'm chilling finish the gen you are on." If I reach up and over and over again grab the hook in my back I'm saying, "window of opportunity, save me now!" Does anyone else do this?
The problem with the hook code is that it's not reliable. A guy swinging on hook can be just impatience and wants out of the hook no matter the situation. A chilling hook survivor can just be afk or does not care and is alt tabbing, etc. I wish there was communication between survivors on these kind of things.
