There are plenty of good console swfs it’s not just PC…
The majority of survivors that t bag, macro spam/click their flashlight/taunt etc during the match or out the gate says a lot about how much they play killer at high MMR which is never.. A very small group of survivors that are very skilled at playing both roles will leave and loop gracefully.
I think that there is also a paradigm that arises in most SWF groups.
They easily win a few games, and come to expect it. They get cocky. Then their MMR rises to a more intermediate level and they start having rough games, but still manage to get out. They taunt and belittle the killer, because the match was stressful.
Their MMR rises some more.
Then they start running into the real monsters, and get destroyed.
But that paradigm is still active. They think that it can't be them being matched against killers with actual skill - it must be that the killer is somehow playing 'unfair'. After all - they did so well and must thus be really really good.
They become BM and cheap as their MMR falls back to the intermediates, and then they get matched against me and ruin my day.

Since SWF discord communication is "not cheating" according to devs (LMAO, selling your integrity 101)
can Solo players get a Perk that reveals the Killer aura whenever any Survivor sees the Killer?
PERK : Communication - Reveals the aura of the Killer for 8 seconds, whenever any Survivor sees the Killer on their screen.
SWF's on discord have this Perk already, it's called having a microphone.
Solo Survivors should have this perk too.
It's necessary.
No.
You assume that every SWF is a 4man with perfect instantaneous communication. This would be ridiculously overpowered.
I'm happy to throw solos a bone - give them native voicechat (opt-out, like Overwatch), pings and a more robust set of emotes.

Yo, so i was playing some basement trapper for my archive and in the end game chat, they said they would report me for body blocking and holding the game hostage, i am pretty confused as the body blocking i did seemed pretty tame, the body blocking which i remember was at basement when somebody got unhooked, i would try block the unhooker/unhookee as they come up the basement stairs for various reasons, the 2nd time was during the end game collapse, the dwight was alone and as i was going back and forth checking the exit gates, i saw a red light on the gate so i checked the surrounding area to find dwight in a corner, there wasnt much time left on the timer so i decided to block him while nodding and let him die to the end game collapse, i thought it would be a funnier way to kill him rather than the traditional hook, i could see how it can be holding the game hostage but also it seems kinda fair, + i am positive he would not be able to open the gate especially while i was there. Please tell me if im in the wrong and i could possible get banned or if im fine:)
Also! the guy who was mostly blaming me said he would throw in some trapper hacking footage just to make sure i get banned, in the case that i get banned is it possible to appeal and use evidence that i didnt do anything to get unbanned? and is saying that this is all being recorded on twitch/ youtube as a defence mechanism allowed even though i was not recording at all.
ty, hope someone can help me out!
Don't let it bother you. Sometimes I wonder if the 'report' feature is mostly a placebo anyway :)
I've had this multiple times.
- Groups threatening to report me for 'focusing on people with pride pins' (when I'm actually just tunneling someone off hook).
- Groups threatening to report me for 'hacking' (when it's usually just Retribution+Plaything working it's magic, or sometimes Discordance, and once for using the iri box addon on Cenobite).
- Groups threatening to report me for 'holding the game hostage' when I decide to go a bit easy after they had a rage DC or got a bad bounce.
- Groups threatening to report me for 'unsportsmanlike conduct' for all sorts of things, usually just standard tunneling or camping someone who BMed me.
Nothing has ever come of it.

@Voodoo101 said:
I am so sick of defending survivors when killers talk about camping and tunnelling, then seeing why they do it when I play a game.
Most the time I play survivor, I see killers that don't face camp, they play hard but fair, you meet a few campers, more then ever lately, but not every game.
Also when I play killer, I find teams that play well, if the are PC then we have ggs. If I am on a challenge or for some reason I feel in a nice mood, the team was bad, I allow them to heal up, rescue and win. When they leave they are nice at the game and then just leave.
Then I meet a team like the one I just played against, who I only needed to do a challenge, and let them just get on and leave, only to find them trying to flashlight blind me at the gate, running around me and trying to taunt me, like they had escaped on merit. I did not hook when I got them down, I even carried one to the gate, stood there while he struggled and let him open the gate, with the others stood there.
Why are there so many idiots in this game that think they are so amazing. If a killer is stood there helping you out the gate, take it and just go, don't try and act like you are big people.
People ask why camping and tunnelling is a big thing in this game, well just as survivors say they are fed up of killers camping, killers are getting fed up with survivors who feel the need to act better then they actually are.
If you want to teabag and flashlight that is down to you, it does not bother me, but don't moan if the next killer you meet hangs you on a hook and stands there.
Oh man, I feel you.
I tend to be the ultimate 'nice guy' killer - at least for my first few games of the day.
If the other side has a DC, or a potato, or a suicide-on-hook type, or if I'm just stomping them - I'll ease up. I'll let them do a few gens, get the safe unhooks and I will even deliberately let them break free of carry states. I'll often even let one or two go. Many times the escapees end up with 30k+ BP.
Then they'll teabag me or flick-macro me from the exit gates and refuse to leave until I chase them out, and say something dumb in postgame.
After a few games of this happening, I'll lose my fluff and start going in hard. Every game turns into a grudge match, and it's probably less fun for all involved.

@Vampwire said:
I've played this game for 3 years and I think I've truly exhausted myself. This isn't a post of me being pissy after losing a game, screaming "IM QUITTING!". It's about the lack of genuine content that we get. The game has played the same for ages. Everybody uses the same perks (killer and survivor, no exceptions) and the newer mechanics aren't really interesting. Boons aren't very interactive, as I'm just holding M1 again or I'm hoping I stumble across one as killer. Scourge hooks are too rng related to really be useful, and even then they're usually just something to help with gens. And during the time that we aren't getting new gameplay content, we have over priced skins thrown at us that make iri shards useless, since a majority of the good skins can only be bought with auric cells.
The game in general needs to have a complete overhaul. Solo-que survivor is misery as your teammates can't really coordinate well against stronger killers where you need coordination. On top of that many of the teammates in solo-que are usually new so you can't rely on them too much.
Many of the weaker killers can't contest against survivors who know what they're doing. And then many other killers have really dull powers that don't change the flow of the game much. Neither are exclusive. So with this we're left with very few killers who are good but are actually fun to play with/against. So you have to choose between fun or winning, and fun stops being fun after you lose a bunch. And for anyone who knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of a killer who sweats the whole match; its hard to not feel bad while doing that.
I love this game, I really do. But I can only find enjoyment out of the same scenario for so long. It's been too long since we've had a killer who changes the game in an interesting way. Or anything that changes the game really. And with some of the recent decisions of bhvr I find it hard to support them. I feel like I've run out of reasons to continue playing. All good things come to an end, though. Maybe it's just time to go.
I hear you. It's in the nature of this sort of rinse/repeat game, where after a while matches start to blend together and you feel like you are just retreading old ground with minor permutations - because you are.
It's a little better on Killer, as they all have quite different playstyles and you can mix things up further with wonky addons and perk builds. Survivor on the other hand...is mostly just the same 'character' reskinned, with the only variance coming in perks and your addon.
The survivor meta is also somewhat stale - you've got fewer 'bad' perks than killers (a lot more A and B tier) but there are a handful of perks that are just too good not to run. Dead Hard is probably the biggie.
However, if you aren't having fun - then a hiatus is probably in order. Go and enjoy some other games (I tend to revisit Path of Exile a lot, and the new Riftbreaker title is more fun than a jumping castle full of kittens) and come back when you fancy another go.

Okay this player was playing as yun lee and used
- open handed
- left behind
- self-preservation
- sole survivor
all she did was wait for the 3 survivors to die and jump in the hatch. I have never seen this before in all my dbd matches
I've seen similar things from time to time - a survivor refusing to unhook (despite me being nowhere near) with their bum poised directly over the hatch and the like. And that's...fine - it's something that you do sometimes see in horror media.
What really grinds my grapes is survivors who will throw their allies under the bus deliberately for the sake of dropping their MMR. Suiciding on the first hook, DCing on the first down, even sometimes deliberately leading me to people doing gens.
Extremely frustrating. I'd rather get stomped by a SWF than win against a griefer.

I haven't played the PTB but from what I've seen from various streamers, she does not seem close in strength to Blight or Nurse. Are they really complaining about how strong she is or is it just how fun she is to go against?
Side note: Why do I see posts about buffing Overcome and nerfing Hex: Pentimento, am I missing something?
Because, as always, people will howl about a killer being OP the first couple times they face him/her, only to realize a few games later that it just required an adjustment in playstyle.

Definitely DS.
You can do some pretty evil things with it once you get smart. Don't use it the second you can - sometimes it's better to wait until later, where a DS can be especially devastating. The amount of times a strategic DS has turned a potential 3k into a 1k against me...I still have nightmares.

@glitchboi said:
When I say "almost every", I don't mean every killer. It depends on how much skill the killer takes. For instance, killers with lower skill floors but with higher skill caps, such as Wraith and Clown, should be balanced around high B tier, no lower. Killers with higher skill floors, such as Pinhead, should be balanced around the A tier.
A tier killers are able to withstand SWF, while still being fair for solo queue, such as old Billy base-kit wise and Huntress. S tier killers, such as Blight and Spirit, also count depending on the perks and add-ons they use.
Of course, it would be a bit difficult (probably an exaggeration) to start off with the whole killer-balancing thing due to flawed map design balance-wise. Not to mention the misery of going against these killers should also be analyzed.
I agree, somewhat.
The problem is that this is a very difficult game to balance.
Pinhead wrecks low-level solo que but has a rough time against higher MMR groups. Nurse, on the other hand has abysmal kill rates because she's so incredibly hard to learn, but is considered 'S' tier.
You want to ideally make sure every killer is viable at high MMR but also not a complete monster at low MMR. In the same vein, they need to be easy enough not to be a miserable learning experience but not too easy. But that's...honestly nearly impossible.
I do wish that BHVR would come out and tell us exactly what their design mandates are and how they want this game to be balanced. Right now, there is a dissonance between 'we are nerfing Pinhead/Wraith because they are too strong at the low end' and 'we won't be buffing Nurse because she'd break high MMR gameplay'.

@Exxodus21 said:

It can be balanced by buffing Survivors in a way that allows them to communicate more, this way you buff solo's and it wont really have an impact on SWF. Being able to see Survivors aura's at all times would probably one of the best things you could do to bridge the gap, and a ping system.
Also lets talk about mastery shall we? Sure, Survivor may be a bit easier to master than killer, its not like killer is that hard to master either. Hell the hardest killer to learn is Nurse and even that doesn't take that long if you dedicate a bit of time to it. But imagine that you're the best Survivor in the world. Wanna know what that means? Nothing, because no matter how good you are your skill can't influence the mindset of your teammates. You yourself can be a good teammate and play perfectly every game but all it takes is for one of your teammates to mess it up and it all means nothing.
That is exactly why I don't play solo q outside of challenges. The time I spent learning a role where my skill doesn't mean a damn thing is more unrewarding than anything else in this game.
I disagree.
Even the best killer players in the world struggle to consistently do well as Nurse.
The first example that comes to mind it's Otz's recent '50 wins on Nurse' streak. It was as difficult as his pre-rework Trapper streak. He had an easier time on Doctor.
Nurse is only ultra-strong in potentia. In actual games, she relies heavily on survivors making mistakes - which is not a guarantee at high levels of play. Otherwise, she'll crush in one game and be 3/4-outed in the next. Not to mention the likely never to be fixed issues with her teleports simply glitching out on certain walls and doodads.

Which Killer do you absolutely stand no chance against for no apparent reason? for me its Nemesis, as soon as I know I am up against him I know I am getting yeeted straight out of the game with a max of 12,000bp.
I don't know why but Nemesis always seems to target me, not even in a camping/tunnelling way, I'm just always the first out of the game and I can't understand why as I don't think he is considered one of the better killers.
Anyone else have any Killer induced PTSD from some of the lower ranked characters?
Now this isn't a "xxxxx is OP" or "xxxxx needs to be nerfed" or anything like that, it is more towards the lower tiered characters that you struggle against that everyone else seems to have no problems with
When I play survivor? Usually it's a Pig (who constantly wards me off boxes and I eventually just explode) or Huntress.

The basics of learning Survivor are much easier to pick up than Blight is yes
To master? Survivor is miles harder, since unless you have a group of people you consistently play with, your skill doesn't even matter half the time because solo q is hell
I started this game off maining Survivor, that was my first 1.2k hours. After a while it just started getting frustrating even back in 2018 when Survivor had even more bs than they had now, it led me to play killer and now I have all killers P3 50 with all perks and Im reaching 4.4k hours
So yeah, I guess you could say I tried it
This game cannot be balanced around solo and SWF.
SWF is the 'optimal' way to play the game, and thus is where balance and these discussions should be focused.
I'd be all for making some lesser version of Kindred baseline if the match is entirely solos, or better yet including more options for solos to communicate with each other. Possibly Overwatch style opt-out VOIP or something.
That said - survivor is by far the easier role to master (up to a certain level). You have fewer things to worry about and all the map resources exist specifically for you to disrupt the killer, not to mention incredibly forgiving survivor maps like Badham (which still has some spots where if you crawl there, it can be almost impossible to hook you in time), Haddonfield with it's incredibly safe 'freebie' gens and RPD which hard-counters certain killers simply by existing.

Well to be fair I don't actually know how people would take it, I'm honestly curious about it because (To me at least) It would've shown that BHVR's not looking to create the 'Mary-Sue' esque stuff that you mentioned in your post
Take Yun-Jin, she's the 'K-POP' survivor right? Made to appeal to that audience, yet she's a flawed and interesting character. That's what i like to see!
It's a bit hard for me to talk about the projecting subject though because, I don't project myself onto any character in this game or most games really. I play characters I think look cool/have cool backstories or are from games I already like. It's not the same for everyone ofc!
Yes, Yun is an example of a 'diverse' (man, that word has become so passé) story well told. Although in all fairness it could also be framed as BHVR attempting to capitalize on the K-Pop craze in the West right now :)
Tapp from Saw is another great character (a very underrated game too).
The thing is - these characters were organic. Their 'special' identity characteristics are tangential or even irrelevant to that story. Because they aren't the most/only interesting thing about them, and they have believable flaws.
I'm also one of those people that doesn't really project - probably because I grew up in an era where I'd probably be playing an 8-bit plumber, a blue hedgehog or an anthropomorphic, space-ship piloting fox. I actually tend to go for female avatars, as I find them more aesthetically pleasing.
If BHVR wanted to add a canonically LGBT+ survivor or killer, that identity would likely be secondary to the story being told, as with the CIA agent. Making that identity the core of their story is where problems arise, as then you have to tread very carefully as that character could easily become token, or even cause a TLOU2-esque backlash.

I must admit, I wonder how people would've felt if the newest survivor (The CIA agent who was involved in war crimes or something like that) was also one of the LGBT characters BHVR had planned to create.
Wouldn't bother me personally but would it bother others, I wonder?
It's the standard 'Mary-Sue' problem.
When you create media not because you think it's a good story (Candyman is a good example of media that is representative but organic) but because you are trying to be 'representative' or to create a character for a specific part of your audience to project onto, it creates problems. People want the character to be perfect - and everyone has a different idea of what 'perfect' means.
The character must be perfectly moral and good, depending on the subjective morality of the individual. They must have the 'right' beliefs. They must have had the 'right' experiences. Any deviations or flaws will be taken personally, and a flawless character is unbelievable and uninteresting.
You can get away with this with a silent protagonist surrounded by a rich world (Gordon Freeman) but it's amazingly difficult to do.
There are plenty of interesting narratives that could be told from a 'diverse' standpoint - Candyman, Us, Devotion, Higurashi - but people are so polarized in their views right now that it's a colossal risk.
I think the CIA agent storyline would be fascinating, but you correctly point out that people would take their immoral actions personally - which is understandable. If they are projecting themselves onto the character, then the immoral actions are part of that and turn into an indictment of whatever beliefs this projection entails.

i dont agree with you on this point , as i said Sexuality or religion dont need any representation on any game , it's not healthy for anyone and there will be always someone who is not happy with the game AS IT and you just proved it.
I have no problem adding...well, anyone to a game as long as it's organic. A good story is a good story.
I do understand however why developers and writers would approach this with a lot of hesitancy - as it can go badly wrong and we've seen it backfire time and time again.
A good example of this would be the popular manga 'My Hero Academia'. Manga/anime has a long history of including gay/bi/trans individuals, but is often criticized for the way they are portrayed - often as an 'Okama' - a stereotypical, effeminate (and usually obvious) male dressed in female clothing.
In a late issue of MHA, a character called Mineta expressed his love for the main character - revealing him as canonically gay/bi. This provoked an overwhelmingly negative reaction. Mineta is the typical manga comic relief - perpetually pervy to the point of being a pest. The author got an enormous amount of backlash for including an LGBT+ character, but making it the wrong character.
It's a minefield.

You acquitted yourself well in that discussion, which is why I'm surprised that you resorted to this sort of tactic here.
I'm happy to debate this issue with you, as these are very complex, very nuanced and very important topics, but maybe DMs are a better venue as the mods don't seem to want this sort of exchange on these boards.

Either way - posting an out of context sentence fragment to give the false impression that I'm some sort of raging bigot is grossly unfair, especially when it's from a deleted discussion that I can't go back and post the actual, full quote from to defend myself.

If you had, you'd see that I was saying that a world where we could all engage in banter with each other freely, without offense, would be the sort of world I'd want to live in. I gave the example of my mixed family, where my brothers-in-law and I make fun of each other.
I stand by what I said. Equality will have to mean that we all get to make fun of each other without any worries about causing offense.
That said, the mods have made it clear that they don't want that discussion starting up again so let's drop it. K?

Pig - there's an annoying RNG element to her traps. On some maps, you can die by simple bad luck. She needs serious love though.
Blight - He often jumpscares me by coming out of nowhere, and it makes me edgy for the rest of the match.

I've just gone through Trickster's bloodweb, who I barely play, and I see this gem of an add-on:
Killing Part Chords: Increases movement speed while throwing Blades by 1%.
Is this a joke? Why are the numbers so safe? Brown add-ons can do more than barely anything, you know. I've seen a lot of bad browns but this one really gets to me. Is it really supposed to make that much of a difference? To me, it's insulting.
Imagine if there was a toolbox add-on for survivors that said "You repair 2% faster", and they were expected to use it. Survivors would be outraged, calling the game super killer sided.
Add-ons are add-ons. They're supposed to be impactful, to where you can actually tell that there's a difference. I don't see it with this add-on. There's no excuse to make such pathetically mediocre add-ons, and have them take up add-on slots, when you could do so much with add-ons to make the killer's power stronger or more interesting.
It's a brown addon.
They are not supposed to be particularly impactful. In some cases, they are a straight up hinderance.
Honestly, a much bigger problem is killers who have purples/iris that amount to a direct nerf when equipped and are significantly worse than an empty slot.
-
Here's mine.
I don't get why people complain about Hag. Figure out her 'zone' and keep an eye on your feet.
Pig annoys me because sometimes her traps feel like they kill people via pure RNG. Blight constantly jumpscares me.

and you could argue that explicitly excluding LGBTQ+ but at the same time including multiple heterosexual relationships is also political. So we are already past that point.

Lgbt+ existence isn't political.
Sure, but their deliberate inclusion in media is political. Much as Uhura's inclusion in the original Star Trek was political or having the main character of Night of the Living Dead be a black man. In that era, that choice was intensely political.
The thing is - 'political' does not mean 'bad'.
People need to be less scared of 'political'.
It's where we get to thrash this stuff out and horror has always been a surprisingly effective venue for contentious topics, whether it be Barker dissecting his sexuality and identity or Candyman's normalization of interracial relationships as a sympathetic villain.

I dont care about that discussion. Also you only see killer side, since you dont reconsider that survivors need to learn to play against every killer too? For example.
I just want a better BP system. For everyone.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2636155#Comment_2636155
Never said survivors should get the same amount as killers.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2636178#Comment_2636178
Of course not. But some scenarios dont let you even do both. Getting camped or tunneled, you just dont get much BP.
Also you only get good items out of a match, if you have perks for better quality, you dont even get addons.
Most of my games i get a gray toolbox or keys. Meh. I dont think its justified to get less BP overall.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2636253#Comment_2636253
Well would be an improvement for things like this.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2636372#Comment_2636372
Dont think its about that.
Also again, i dont talking about getting the same amount. As it is right now, its not justified to be possible only 3k BP out of a game.
Here's a solution. Put all the BP earned by survivors into a pool and divide that up evenly between survivors at the end. That definitely won't cause problems.
Seriously though, I'd be fine with the first survivor to die getting a bonus or something - but that would lead to even more survivors just suiciding.
In active matches, I regularly see survivors get around 30k BP, which is around what I get as killer.
This is an issue of playstyle, not mechanics.

So then why does Blight with Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer give a lot?
Ruin/Undying isn't even easymode anymore. It's incredibly streaky as builds go. It'll work well one game, and in the next two your totems get cleansed before the first gen pops. Survivors know the maps now and know where to look - when it doesn't spawn right out in the open next to the first gen.

Ps. What killer have you not seen in a while
As others have said, Pinhead is the epitome of 'high risk, low reward'. He's very difficult to play while at the same time not being all that powerful - aside from 1 specific addon which oddly enough was not the focus of the nerfs. And that's before we get into the various dramas around NFTs and his voicing.
As survivor, I see a lot of Huntress, Bubba, Spirit and Nemesis. I'm seeing a few Tricksters now too thanks to the season.
I've only ever seen 1 Hag and 1 Myers. I've never seen a Pig or the Twins.

yeah no i dont wanna premade for a game that shouldnt have a competitive scene lol. it should just be a fun game that nobody min maxes or tries to be big brain about. its a hilarious game concept in the first place.
Then keep playing - eventually your MMR will stabilize at a region where hopefully you'll get matched with/against people of a similar mindset.
However, keep in mind that this will take a dozen or more games, and that matchmaking has some very strange quirks (and seems to be disabled periodically). A good rule of thumb - if you have an instant queue, dodge that lobby. Someone else dodged and it threw you in there, it may be way above (or below) your skill level.
If you have multiple instant queues in a row, the matchmaking might have been disabled for a few hours. Take a break and come back later.

should this have been a poll?
Probably, but it's a more nuanced question than you'd think.
In solos - gen speeds are fine.
In SWF - gen speeds are sometimes not fine, depending on map and killer. It's too easy to rotate people onto and off gens that you are trying to pressure and there isn't much possible counterplay. (the perks that would serve this purpose are just ridiculously weak).
With toolboxes and perks (BNP+PTS is the big offender here) - gen speeds can definitely not be fine. It should not be mechanically possible for a team to pop 1 gen in 14 seconds, 2 gens in under a minute, the third gen just as the killer begins their first chase and the fourth as they hook. That's silly.

Honestly I don't recall. I haven't watched the movies in aaaggges.
Just did a rewatch of them (at least the first 5, the ones that are at least semi-good). Chatterer is only in the first two, and does literally nothing (as the costume made the actor completely deaf and blind).
It's revealed in the second film, after the Gash (the 4 primary Cenobites) are killed by the Leviathan/Charnard tentacle puppet - yes that was fun to write - that the Chatterer is actually a very young boy.
I'd like to think that they wouldn't sexualize someone that age, so it's probably 'expanded universe' canon (which, oddly enough my wife has been brushing up on for her DnD campaign as one player wants to play a Cenobite!) or something retconned in the terrible later sequels.

The "free" Items, are mostly only effective in the match.
Since keys are useless now, the only good items are rainbow map, medkits and repair kits.
Also you need to survive to get them "free".
Oh and dont forget that you loose your items after the trial if you die.
Killer are the more challenging role, but need to focus less on little things. As a survivor you have skillchecks, for perks you need to activate them right and look out for the killer etc.
Survivor are expteced to live longer than 2 - 4 minutes. But this doesnt happen everytime. D:
Also a survivor who does his objective, shouldnt get less than someone who loops the killer. Also someone who loops the killer should aswell get more. But the categories dont helpt with that.
Yes, 3 of 5 possible items are good. Man, if only most killers could say that...
You can find them in chests, use them in the match and/or take them out with you. They are indeed free.
Killers have to focus on tons of little things. They are not the same things as the survivors, but while you get a lovely clear terror radius we have to listen for soft footsteps and Nea farts over the sound of Demogorgon eating bubble gum.
Of course it doesn't. You still have the potential for free addons, and with the desired survivor rate being 2 per match, over time that averages out as one free addon per match.
If the killer 'does the objective' (kills all survivors asap) they don't get much BP either.
To earn a good amount of BP as a killer, you need to play around with survivors and at least give them something of a game.
This applies to survivors too. If you hide all game and slam out gens, you won't get anywhere near as much BP as if you actually interacted with the killer.

killers like scream, michael myers, the big guy with the club that looks like thanos, you cannot get away from them. theres 0 point in doing generators when they can cross the map in 5 seconds and check every generator. what me and my friends do is just wait for him to kill 3 of us and then 1 person escapes and we count it as a win. and then half of the time when its one of them, they think they are good at this game that should be fun but people take it seriously for some reason, and they have some ego about playing a broken killer, so they be friendly and waste like 10 mins of your time
Firstly - welcome!
As a new player, a few things to keep in mind.
- DbD is not an 'easy to learn, hard to master' game. It's quite old now, and the community, even at an intermediate level, is rather sophisticated. You'll get hammered for a while before you get the hang of it.
- That said, after a certain skill point, DbD is commonly considered survivor favored.
- Your best bet is to watch some videos and get a feel for the game. You'd also want to pick a handful of perks (Otz does a good series on this) to unlock as a priority.
- You may also have some luck finding people to SWF (form a premade with). They'll be able to walk you through things.
Good luck and stick with it. It's a really fun although interminably frustrating game.

The Chatterer is a canonically queer character.
Interesting. I'll have to check that out tomorrow (off to bed shortly). I wonder if that's 'movie' canon or 'expanded universe' canon though.

Slight disappointment: I wish his addons were better and more creative. I feel like he needs an addon pass for sure, and he hasn't even been out that long! I also wish the camera was a little less restricted when aiming his M2, since it's easier to dodge than most ranged attacks.
Ji-Swoon:
Enjoyment: Awesome chase music, fun-to-use power and I love him laughing all the time! I honestly feel strong whenever I play as him, and that's coming from a former Nurse main, haha.
Slight disappointment: Being 4.4m/s is a little rough. Not complaining for it to be CHANGED of course, but it does make me appreciate 4.6m/s a lot more...
Sadly looking at the Freddy rework and the Pinhead nerfs, it feels like PH's addons are about the level that BHVR wants for addons.
Sigh.

what this game needs is BHVR adding a system to record matches from all perspectives, SO EVERYONE without needing exra software AND at the same time being able to see what the others did during the match will give us the exact info we need to know if others were cheating, of course sutile hacking is getting real but with this even sutile hacking will get noticed by experienced players... this for example exists in Rocket Leage, this is exactly what we need and should get. easily we will be able to notice hackers and make them lose their hacked accounts regularly and potentially they will stop doing it (At least lots of them would, i dont think is profitable losing 50dls every week + the account game)
this shouldnt be expensive and shouldnt require much work, if BHVR is not adding this is just lazyness, OH well sorry its bhvr, they are lazy always been, but the shop its always working tho, in fact this lazy thing of them having to watch many videos could be the reason why they dont do it (the worst part is that are we the ones doing all the work as always and always will but still they cant do the bare minimum) we get what we deserve.
You mean like replays on the killer end of things to make reporting easier? That's a good idea.
I'm not sure if it being on BHVR's end of things would be viable though. You'd be talking reviewing thousands of hours of footage on a daily basis.

I cant say i main one killer for a long time, i switch them from time to time.
Trapper:
I like to set up traps and its a good feeling when i catch some one in them. But he is too weak, and good survivors never step into traps outside of the chase.
Deathslinger:
I liked to use jumpscare builds, and hitting long range shots. Was my favourite until he got destroyed by the nerfs, never will touch him again in his current state.
Pyramid Head:
He can be fun to use, his power is constant mindgaming. But i hate how Dead Hard is a free dodge over his power, and we know how every survivor today runs DH. Also many people just hold W the moment they hear you use M2 at the loop, it can become tedious very fast. And even though i read that they gonna run away from a loop, and hit them, holding W and rushing gens is enough to make sure that PH will lose, cuz he is too slow.
Trickster:
The only killer who lets me feel like im a power-role in this game, although that is still depends on map RNG. In deadzones and low-loops he is deadly, can make unhooks very risky for survivors. Dont give a ######### about Dead Hard(unbelievable!). Also his ricochet addon is just too fun to use.
Bubba:
Cute killer who can make sure that someone will die in his match.
Trickster? Interesting. I must say, I've never enjoyed him (aside from hybrids like PH/Nemesis, I'm not a fan of ranged killers). I also don't enjoy him aesthetically - he feels like he wandered in from a different genre of game entirely.
PH...yeah. DH can be frustrating. You have to bait it out and sometimes it just seems to work anyway. It'll honestly have to get nerfed at some point - it was meta before the fix and now it has the added bonus of constantly giving 'fake hits' to the killer, which can be very disorienting and also futzes with killer powers sometimes.
Trapper...oof. Maybe one day, when I'm really confident about my skills, I'll try to learn him again. He just feels like a much, much worse Hag.

I mean, I don't think anyone would say anything to call you discriminatory unless you said something first. like, if a bubba camped someone to death, that survivor's main salt would likely be about camping. if that bubba then said something horrid in the endgame chat about that player's digital avatar, that would be cause for calling out.
I'd say the only people who'd be jerks about that would likely be feigning anger.
I've had people threaten to report me multiple times for 'camping' or 'tunneling' them because they had a pride charm or played Claudette. As people feared after that Twitter turdstorm, some survivors literally seem to think that a pride charm should work like an everything-proof shield :|.
The only times I'll facecamp someone is if they BM me. I'll tunnel sometimes, sure - but it's simply a matter of who I downed first.

Some people already tunnel/camp people who rock Pride Flag charms.
But are they tunneling them because they rock pride charms, or is that just coincidental?
From what I remember, there has been only one case of this - allegedly a killer would constantly focus down Claudettes and yakked about it in postgame.

I'm not stating that because a character's creator is queer, automatically means they are. What I did state though is that it's heavily hinted/implied in the movies/comics that Pinhead/Chatterer's past life before becoming Cenobites; they were gay. Scream obviously wasn't, or at the very least no evidence was given to support whether or not they were bi/gay.
Uhm.
Chatterer was a kid, if I recall. A very...young kid, probably pre-sexual. That was sort of the punchline to the character (kids would tend to design a monstrosity like that).
Pinhead...yeah, I could see that. I haven't read any of the comics though (was Barker even involved in those?).

Technically, Pinhead/Chatterer are gay. Or at the very least, were created by a gay Director. Ghostface (Scream) was also created by a gay Director. And if we ever get Chucky or Candyman, that's even more representaiton from Horror Icons created by the LGBT.
Yeah, Clive Barker was gay. A lot of his books and especially his filmography (Nightbreed...oh boy) were him working out his sexuality and identity. Genuinely fascinating chap. Another good openly gay author is David Feintuch, creator of the best science fiction series ever written (the Hope series).
And...I've always had certain questions about the Cenobites' choice of outfit...
@Desh said:

What's the difference? We're taking work that became huge horror icons, specifically created from the LGBT community, and displaying it proudly. If people really want to have their sexuality represented in a murderer, idk how to respond that. It used to be a big deal (negatively), and still is, when the only gay representation in movies/games is when they're evil in some shape or form.
Honestly, I find the main draw of this game to be the killers.
Also - this stereotype mostly went out with the 80s horror wave, only really remaining in deliberately exploitative 'shock' cinema like the Tromaverse. The 90s saw the trope of the 'immortal, all knowing gay best friend' and now you have incredibly prestigious horror media with gay protagonists (IT, HOHH season 2 etc.).
This is one thing I find quite odd about modern media though. It may be that I'm old, and grew up on games where your avatar was barely recognizable as human (and was more likely to be a blue hedgehog, a gorilla or a deformed plumber) - but I've never identified particularly strongly with my avatars. In fact, I tend to gravitate towards more conventionally attractive female avatars than male avatars in most things. Which I've been told is 'deeply problematic'...somehow.

It's one of the things that I really like about the wider horror community. Until quite recently, it was (along with sci-fi) very much the territory of societal outsiders - nerds, the LGBT crowd, minorities etc. which is why it often dealt with themes of alienation and otherness and got to push boundaries that the mainstream may not have been entirely comfortable with - which is something that only horror can really get away with.
People who didn't have a place to call their own could usually carve out a niche within the horror community and produced some genuinely fascinating media. While The Thing will always be my favorite, my others are The Haunting (if I'm not mistaken, one of the first major films to even hint at lesbianism), Hellraiser (dealing with sexual awakenings, BDSM, fixation and power within relationships) and Candyman (just...too much to even start to unpack).
Dammit but being a horror fan is awesome.

It's not a language, it's more like a crude code. It's just taking the first letter/s of a word, moving them to the end and adding 'ay'. Used to be a sort of code kids used to have conversations without teachers understanding (without realizing that it's a tradition going back...generations). Often used when talking about something that someone else doesn't want you to talk about - prefaced with Icksnay (Nicks). You'll see a lot of it in older comedies (Three Stooges era).
Basically: Nicks about killer crows (ie: don't spill the beans).

I'm...not sure if a bunch of rotting kid meat trapped inside an animatronic qualifies as a 'furry'. I'd prefer a wolfman if they want to go that route :).

True about Plaything, though SWF comms counter a lot of stuff. Personally I don't really plan for them.
The Third Seal combo is very fun, especially on indoor maps. Note, however, that it's not really a BP getter or pipping build, since lots of survs die early since they can't see anything. XD
Jolt certainly has flaws. On The Game and Midwich, I love to have it. On Ormond, not so much. Still, fun non meta option for killers that down with M1. And while I may say jolt with my lips, my heart will forever whisper Surge.
Will try Third Seal once I start learning Plague again. Just burning through my relevant Cenobite addons before the nerf comes down and throwing my BP into Plague to unlock the perks I want.
-
@nikodemo said:
Plaything. Oh man I run this on so many killers. Information is very strong in DbD. Taking that away from survs can have a great effect to cause chaos, have them make mistakes, and cause slowdown by making them do something else.
Brutal combo when paired with Third Seal, since then they can't see the auras of their totem. These two perks will give the survs the real horror movie experience.
Fearmonger is another go to perk for me on killers that have a hard time giving chase with the W strat.
Jolt is another favorite of mine. Let's me keep moving and chasing without having to stop all the time and kick gens.
In general I tend to avoid meta perks simply because I get bored running the same things all the time. I want to try new perks and new combos.
The biggest problem with Plaything is that it's basically hard-countered by SWF coms. It's wonderful against solos though, or when paired with Retribution. Going to run both with the new Artist perk.
I...never thought of pairing it with Third Seal. I might try that.
Jolt/Surge is incredible on instadown killers, but I struggle to make it work against the new 'just lead killer into a corner of the map so that it takes months to hook you' strat. The cooldown can also be a little punishing.

That is neither here nor there. Have 4k as an option as with a lot of console games on the new gens. 'Performance' and 'quality'.
PC can already play this game fine and there's no reason not to throw in a 4k texture pack for PC gamers.

When did you play?
A few hours ago, matchups were wonky (they have been since last night). I was getting thrown up against very experienced survivor groups and getting thrashed, or complete newbies and stomping.
As of my last few games, it feels like it's back to normal.
A good sign of something being squiffy is multiple instant queues in a row. One usually means there was a lobby that someone dodged, two or three usually means either take a break or put on my best addons and get ready for the sweat.

Hex’s were always cleansed early by good survivors anyway but now with Boons, it’s even worse what with survivors hungrier than ever to find those totems
I just played a killer game with a full hex build
- Ruin
- Undying
- Thrill of the Hunt
- Haunted Grounds
literally all gone within 1-2 minutes
by the time I downed the first survivor (who’d just finished blessing the first totem) which was pretty quick to be fair, it was a really short chase. By the time I hooked him 2 more boons were up, followed by another one shortly after and that was it…1 gen done, one hook and I’d already lost all of my perks for the entire game
I feel at this point it’s just a waste of a perk slot using hex’s, especially with everyone and their mother bringing maps and boons into every game
I just wish the devs would revert the Thrill of the Hunt nerf so you actually get notified again when someone is working on a Hex totem, killers could at least try and defend them then
The problem was the Undying nerf.
This was specifically targeted at the Ruin+Undying combo, but rather than doing the intuitively correct thing (adjusting Ruin - which honestly wasn't even that much of a threat in high level play - people just powered through it) they nerfed Undying, and by extension all hex play.
The only hexes I use now are Plaything+Retribution. Devour Hope if I'm feeling lucky, sometimes NOED if I'm feeling cheesy. The latter two are rare now, and yes - between survivors knowing where all the totems live now and the Undying nerf, hexplay sucks.
@jesterkind said:
I genuinely don't think hexes are in a worse spot right now than they were before boons were added. They already got broken within a minute of the game starting for the most part, it's hard to get worse than that with new mechanics.
There's definitely no point to running a full hex build, and there hasn't been for a while unless you want to try for some goofy gimmick build. One or two hexes can still kind of work out if you're lucky, though.
There is definitely a direct incentive now to check all the totem spots even on teams that might not always have done so.
