It doesn't need to be competent with the way survivors prefer to play. It just needs to be around.
Outside of maybe a training mode, BHVR would never add bot killers/survivors, unless these games gave out like 10% BP.
Otherwise it would spell the death of the game within a few months.

LoS isn't an option in some realms. Once again RNG has an impact on how the trial will end and how quickly.
This killer needs to be reworked or forced to play on indoor maps where you can actually use LoS as counterplay. Yesterday I was grinding through Halloween tome and I've got to play against The Nurse on McMillan & Autohaven maps which heavily favor her power. Debris loops on Autohaven are useless. The whole middle was a dead zone against her. I wasted my cakes and BPS for nothing. I feel like high MMR is The Nurse show. So boring and unfun. Every single Nurse I versed had all the crutch perks!
People should stop saying she has a high learning curve and even if she did that doesn't justify the bad design. Patient people will become decent with her in 2 weeks. With that blinking power, a decent Nurse can ruin the entire trial... I don't feel motivated to play. I'm fine with every killer except The Nurse. She needs to be changed, removed or nerfed so she can be in line with other killers.
Shrug.
Either BHVR balances things at the low end without regard for killer viability at intermediate/high MMR, or they need to balance things around high MMR.
You cannot nerf killers who are too strong at low MMR but suck at high MMR and nerf killers for being too strong at high MMR despite them struggling at low MMR unless you want 5 hour survivor queue times at peak.

Yeah, and if it is about supporting the chapter then that's awesome! But I'd love to know if these things are planned to happen more frequently or not. This blood hunt just took me so far off guard that I can't abuse the double BP as much I wanted due to scheduling issues.
That said, I agree VHS isn't really a dbd killer. Heck, I doubt I'll even play the game myself because it has more elements of Evolved and voice chat in my opinion, neither of which I'm too excited about. That said, I do love me some competition and do hope it fosters some more creativity, ingenuity, and just downright better business practices in general for all competitors.
Yerp.
I was a little irritated myself, as I have a ton of things scheduled tomorrow and Friday, plus setting up Christmas decorations, helping the missus with her scholarship applications etc. Going to get as much of it done this afternoon as possible though.
I do hope that these events happen more often though because the grind in this game makes it feel like a Freemium title at times.

Will do. And also, when I get my account back, I'm going to start keeping track of how many games I played vs. number of times I get banned to show you what "a lot" is!
That would be a good idea.
At the very least, it would help a lot of people to understand how the system works.

Yeah, and maybe it is just a planned marketing strategy in an effort to reduce competition. If so, can't blame them for that, I'd do the same.
But on the off-chance this was planned for months in advance like she said, and for other reasons, I'd love to know what just so I can better prepare for them. I have group projects out the whazoo for university and the timing of this blood hunt just is not the best for me.
As someone else just said, these events are planned far in advance, and this one seems to be more about the upcoming chapter than trying to sabotage the VHS beta.
I mean...it's a beta. And VHS isn't the DbD killer people think it is. It's going to be fun, maybe force BHVR to think outside the box a little (competition is good!) but it'll probably find a happy little niche and do it's own thing. If it's good (right now it's...pretty janky).

No disrespect to Mandy but her awnser seems so official and pre planned. and before everyone get at me I understand she can't just say whatever she wants because she is a representative of bhvr.
This is why devs tend to be so loath to comment on threads like this.
They literally cannot give an answer that won't be twisted into more proof of someone's preexisting ideas.

Ok, that's it, you reached a limit point BHVR, you lost my respect at this point, you're gonna have to work very hard to regain reputation after this:
This year was a total disaster:
-Twins chapter completely bugged at launch, with later a nerf to Twins that made them Clunky
-Trickster chapter also very full of bugs
-The scandal of NFTs, which couldn't be your fault contractually, but still it could since we know nothing as always. It took McLean to defend you, and on that I 95% believe him, it's not your fault
-RPD added as a map, completely busted for how but it is and how much it's survivor sided, considering the 2/3 strong window loops, the 2/3 god pallets and all the safe pallets
-Wraith nerfed for no good reason
-Circle of healing added, which completely NEGATES the hit and run playstyle, and the risk of taking bodyblocks. For example you can tank all Hag traps and reheal before she has the time to reset the traps lost
-The most important of all, the hackers situation:
Yesterday, I my region, within 10 matches I faced 3 hackers, actually 4 because 2 were together in a single match. One held me hostage and I had to disconnect.
And these hackers don't get banned even after a month sometimes! Up to less than 10% of the Dbd pc top% population has them! This not counting the stretched res, the audio improvements you can set from the game files, the Blight lag switch, the filters to make the game brighter without increasing the gamma, etc!
And we don't know how many of them are closet cheating, just seeing auras for example, or using a cheating stretched res where you can see over any freaking wall
-Dulcis in fundo, the DDOS BHVR response:
Since the ptb, who knows how many ips get revealed by hackers, and the Dead by Daylight page and Dbd forums took 1 WEEK to advertise us of the hacker attack and to protect ourselves!
You take 1 week to respond to/make aware of the DDos problem, but you INSTANTLY put up a bloodhunt when there's the VHS beta????
That's it Behaviour Interactive, as always you showed that money is the only thing that counts, and that the "ethical capitalism" can't exist, for the "mors tua vita mea" principle.
Mm. Let's go point by point, because I agree with...some of this.
- The NFT thing is pretty overblown and is based on a lot of hyperbole, assumptions and gossip. Hell, while I'm not going to get into such a complex topic in detail, the actual science behind 'NFTs are going to destroy the planet' fearmongering (or should I say claustrophobia-ing'?) is...shaky at best and revolves almost entirely around hypotheticals.
- RPD...I'm not sure how survivor sided it actually is. There are some stupidly strong loops, but that's true of a ton of maps. Honestly, I find the map to be just as annoying for survivors as it is for killers. It's just a bad map.
- Yes, the Wraith/Slinger/Cenobite nerfs were silly, but there's nothing new there. At least they finally made Plague fun. Now do Pig and Ghostface.
- CoH needs a nerf, sure - but it's main issue is that it stacks with other healing effects and that boon totems are both too hard to find and too easy to replace. I'm sure it'll get one, at BHVR's usual glacial pace.
- Hackers...I'm not sure what can really be done. The only big name games I can think of offhand without hackers are almost entirely server based. Even massive, full on Esports like Starcraft 2, Fortnite and CS:GO are riddled with hackers, despite extremely expensive proprietary anti-cheats. Game hacking has become so sophisticated that it's very hard to counter. $80 a month will get you a complete hacking suite for basically any game you can name. It...sucks, but I'm not sure if there is an answer.
- Big companies are like ducks. The surface looks calm, but the little legs are going like mad under the water. I'm sure they wanted to get all the info they could before they said anything.
- Why are you upset at more BP? If you want to play VHS, go play VHS. I'll personally be playing it, and I'll also be playing DbD.
- This has nothing to do with 'ethical capitalism' or 'dog-eat-dog' (a much more apropo way of putting that rather than obscure Latin terminology). This is just standard practice - when a competitor comes along, you make your product look more enticing. That's how capitalism works.
- If this thread turns into a 'capitalism versus socialism' thing, I'm going to have to bring out the mori.

First 2 matches I naturally roll RCPD.
I dont even know how that's possible, I usually always have to bring badges because it's hard to roll this map when Badham has 5 FRICKIN variants.
Seriously, who likes preschools that much? It's a little concerning.
Now that I've basically mastered the layout completely, this map gives me Spine Chills when I spawn because I know I'm in for an intense match.
I love how much of a breath of fresh air this map is.
We got hatch on the 2nd floor and a unique gameplay loop that separates it from all the other maps.
I think why this map is so great is because it's so different from DBD. Might explain why I love facing Nurse as well.
I'll admit though, this map somehow sandbags both survivor and killer. Oh look, this Mokaela has a Boon in the library and shes trying to loop the top of the library....how cheeky. I still love it anyway. Best "party game " level that's always good for a laugh.
Never really played RE, but this map makes me want to jump into the series so bad.
Sorry for the tangent, I'm just really excited after my good luck. I'm just sad that people still trash this map so hard and say only RE fans like thos map and any DBD fan should automatically despise it because it's not Coldwind 2.0 or Ormond 2.0
I haven't seen Badham in over two weeks. It's been...fun.
I really, really hate RPD, but I'll usually just sigh and get it over with. It's honestly as annoying for survivors as it is for killers - so many people have died on hook while everyone else is trying to figure out how to reach them.

Oh, you know, individual Killer MMR. Yes, I know there technically is, but it's basically meaningless.
One of the major points that they made when they announced SBMM was that Killer players wouldn't need to get stomped while playing a brand new Killer. That was a lie.
I even tested and proved it myself. There is almost zero variation in Killer MMR.
Yeah this is one of the things about SBMM that annoys me. Pegging your 'new' killer's MMR just below your 'best' killer's MMR is ridiculous. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea, but they need a few months in the office dungeon.
I remember trying to learn Demo last month and got absolutely raked for 5 or 6 matches before it stabilized.

Not what im implying. Im just pointing out that if this is the case its a bit of an underhanded move from BHVR to keep the players who have rightfully been very angry with their choices recently from playing a game they might enjoy a lot more on its own. Which is lost money for BHVR. If they want people to stay, or play both of these games, they should be making smarter choices. Not bribing us.
Yes, it wasn't aimed at you.
It just frustrates me how people insist on making everything a binary contest between two options. PC versus Console. Path of Exile versus Diablo 3. DbD versus VHS. Coke versus Pepsi.

If I can play a game i absolutely love and am obsessed with 97% of the time, know that it will most likely work then I'm sorry but I'm not going to give it up over that 3% chance of failure. Would you give up a relationship where 3% of the time you fought?
As far as most people understanding I guess we won't know an answer unless we take a poll on that one. I feel like if a player disconnects after a down, obvious purposeful disconnect. Out of nowhere? Its there internet.
And once again, how can it be my internet when I have the best in my internet and literally every other game and streaming service works fine?
Sigh. Okay. Lets go point by point here.
- It's not '3% of the time'. If you are sitting at a DC penalty that significant, you'd have to be DCing in a significant number of games. If you were playing games from start to finish, the penalty would have declined rapidly. People DC a lot in this game without anything longer than a 5-15 minute penalty.
- Your relationship analogy doesn't work at all.
- Again, the issue isn't when you DC here. It's the frequency.
- I have no idea what the issue is, and there is no way for me to know. You are going to have to diagnose it. I know that when I was living in Japan, playing World of Warcraft on my old server made it impossible for me to raid with my friends. I would never have expected them to bring me along to our progression raids and just carry me through 500ms lag and constant DCs.
- Maybe try a VPN? Windscribe and Nord all have free options that will allow you to test it.

My dude. Have you considered just... not playing? Like instead of rage quit DCing just like, stop touching buttons. Minimize the game, go to the bathroom, get water. ######### on the hook. The only times I DC from rage quitting are like moments when I've been playing a long time, realize I'm tilting and want to be spiteful to a basement bubba. Then I realize I'm taking it too seriously and do other things. That maybe happens once a month? If that? There are non punished options to exit a game early you know?
Honestly, the only time I'll DC is when a group of survivors decides to play hide and seek for an hour at 1gen because they are sulking that I didn't 2 hook everyone before killing. I won't give them the satisfaction of suffering through that again.
Usually, if I'm having a miserable game or am facing a bully-squad, I'm more likely to just face a wall and go grab a cigar and scotch. And that's something that hasn't happened in my last 100 games (I'm slowly reaching the point where I can at least give them a run for their money if I dial it up to 11).

They made a whole bunch of promises about SBMM and then totally abandoned them.
Such as?
Plus, there is a massive difference between 'my MMR is obviously way too high so I'm going to play chill for a while and let it drop to get people more at my level'.
This is 'I basically AFKed a ridiculous amount of games so that I can 'practice' against complete newbies'.
MMR manipulation and smurfs absolutely kill games. SC2 had a big problem with this and it completely bottlenecked the game, in that new players were constantly facing Diamond+ players who smurfed their Unranked rating down to get some easy wins after playing Ranked.

Its not 3-4 times in one week and thats it. Its weekly. As in multiple times. As in yes this has been an on going problem. As in yes the very first ban I got was 2 or 3 minutes. But I've been playing for a total of 29 days and 13 hours, and thats how high my bans have got, without disconnecting purposely and without disconnecting more than 5 times weekly.
I am not purposely ruining matches for dozens of other players and its not fair to say that. It is just a game, most people who realize the situation understand what happened.
I think you're misunderstanding me.
I'm not trying to be harsh - but I am being honest.
'Purposefully' doesn't really come into it.
By playing a game like this where 4 other people (3 survivors, 1 killer) are depending on you to remain connected and try your best knowing that you have an unstable connection, you are being incredibly inconsiderate. Whether or not you are DCing intentionally or unintentionally is somewhat immaterial - if you are DCing that much you are ruining game after game after game.
And that has to stop.
Fix your internet. If you can't, then I'm sorry to say that you may have to play something else.
And no - I don't think they 'understand what happened'. To them, it's probably incredibly frustrating.

As with everything - context is key. It can sometimes feel condescending to be GG'd by someone who absolutely slaughtered you.
That said, 99% of the time, anyone who takes offense at a simple 'GG' is just being a sore loser.
'GG EZ' though is generally regarded as incredibly BM.

It's an automatic disconnect. I'm not purposefully doing it, or I wouldn't be in here complaining.
People don't understand the ban system. They think "A LOT," when "A LOT" is 3-4 times consecutively.
You are not getting a 24 hour ban for 3-4 disconnects in isolation.
Either you are quitting matches, or your internet has been acting up for a long time.
I've actually never even heard of a ban that long.
Either way - yeah. The reality of the situation is that, if it's really your internet, you are going to have to fix that problem before playing online games. It's simply not fair to the dozens of other players you are ruining matches for.

I think the exact opposite. I actually find them really easy to hit, it's like casting a nurse blink. As long as you're on top of the survivor it's not really possible for them to dodge. As for Fang, I'd say this can give way to many easy hits, which can be a real game changer. It's like if huntress could hit you through anything. I would prefer if there was some kind of range requirement to get a hit with the chains, rather than a free first hit without any drawbacks.
It depends on the map and the survivors in question. People that just hold W in the middle of the Serengeti - yeah. Easy chains.
Indoor maps or in maps with lots of jungle-gyms? Chains break almost instantly and they are off.
Survivors that know how to juke chains (very much like juking Nurse, actually) - oh man can this be difficult to deal with. Sometimes you can fool them by faking it though and gain distance.
He's a really cool killer, he just needs help somewhere in his kit to offset the nerfs.

But why are we nerfing him. Seriously. This feels like the EXACT same thing that happened with Deathslinger, where BHVR nerfs a "problem" area and then forgets to buff any other part of their kit.
Yerp.
The weirdest thing - Fang wasn't even nerfed all that hard. It escaped mildly singed.
The 'faster hunts' and 'longer solve' addons were incinerated and the iri Box nerf...why?
The answer seems to be that BHVR are going off gross kill rates, meaning that it's about him being troublesome for newer players without any regards for high MMR viability.
By which logic - Nurse needs one hell of a buff.

Or is this bloodhunt for the players that willingly risk getting their personal info getting leaked/can afford a VPN?
In the meantime, we encourage you to stay safe ***and follow best practices for online safety.***

Honestly this feels like the product of years of anti-loop killers biting back. When they first started releasing the anti-loop no mobility killers, survivors complained and were told to just adapt. Then when more were released, survivors complained and were told to just adapt, again.
So they finally adapted and everyone can see how boring it is to play this way, but it's the most effective style of playing so a lot of people will do it, especially because a lot of powers right now seem to follow the philosophy that looping = bad and is then counterbalanced by an inability to actually pressure generators without stacking slowdown on top of slowdown.
It's incredibly frustrating but I can't say I'm shocked. Survivors just finally adapted.
There is also a problem in regards to maps - some have ridiculously strong loops/layouts that neccesitate playing a killer with enormous mobility or the ability to bypass these loops, especially at higher MMR where survivors will know how to 'play' these loops and turn them into incredibly safe pseudo-infinites.
The notorious 'House of Pain' loops, the wonderfully named 'POGlog' on swamp maps etc.
What's going to have to happen is a rework of these maps. Right now were in an arms-race between killer mobility and anti-loop, and survivors chaining together strong vaults and pallets. Something is going to have to give.
@M1MASTER said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2643034#Comment_2643034
But again, if you know your team is rushing gens, pre dropping pallets works regardless of the killer.
The real problem isn't that the killers have changed, the problem is that survivors are getting better as the years pass in a game that's not evolving past running in circles and holding a button on static objects while staring at a progress bar.
This.
The meta has shifted from trying to mindgame pallets/vaults to running larger, stronger loops where it's very difficult to catch up.
I'm not sure if there's an easy solution to this.
@coolmacc said:
No point in even trying to loop some killers nemesis, legion ,slinger, trickster. Doesn’t matter if you mind game them when you have to drop the pallet they’ll still get a hit on you
I recently saw a video where a single survivor looped an excellent killer player for around 5 minutes on the Haddonfield HOP. He was playing Nemesis.
Legion is vulnerable to predrops. Trickster and Slinger both fall apart when survivors know how to LOS.

Why does everybody ignoring the archives quests somewhat connected with repairing gens, for example:
repair 8 gens, finish repairing gens, open gates, escape, do x during egc, etc.
every single one of this challenge makes you repair gens to complete it, and this thing affects games of all levels of skill. every single time new tome/rift with quests like these is released, my matches are becoming even shorter, this is a part of the genrush problem, maybe survivors don't want to genrush, but these quests just make them to do it, and for some reason nobody is talking about this
I'm not sure what 'genrush' even refers to anymore. It's like 'tunneling' - it seems to encapsulate such a wide variety of playstyles that it's sort of meaningless.
Survivors are supposed to do gens as fast and as efficiently as possible. Killers are supposed to prevent them from doing this.
Now, there are some balancing issues here and there - absolutely. Some maps are too big, too complex, too dense or have too many strong loops/pallets (or even the occasional pseudo-infinite) and these need reworking. Some survivor addons (BNP) and perks (PTS) exacerbate the problem where sometimes you'll see multiple gens pop before you get your first hook. Some killers are far too weak and lack the mobility/anti-loop/chase power to really counter this, and that needs to be fixed.
However, there are a lot of killer challenges that encourage camping and the like. That's just the nature of the beast.

Somewhere around 3,000 to 3,500 total. About 1/6th of that time is on my killers
Interesting.
A few thoughts:
- Survivor is tricky. I'm okay with measuring killer skill in terms of kills, but it's much more difficult to quantify survivor skill. The guy that ran me for 3 minutes while his comrades popped all the gens but then died during collapse should get more credit than the guy who suicided on hook at 5gens. Survivor SBMM should be more nuanced. But yeah - that's very difficult to do accurately.
- It's entirely possible that, due to the long survivor queues at certain times of day/MMR, that you'll have a scenario where 2 excellent survivors and two potatoes will get placed together to reach an average MMR of a decently skilled killer. I'm not sure that's fixeable.
- There is also an element of luck here. At equal-ish skill levels, you may go on streaks of losses and/or wins still. As long as the matches are reasonably close skill-wise, I'm okay with that. A coin can always land 'heads' or 'tails' a dozen times in a row. You'll only get an accurate picture at a much larger sample size.

I've actually seen a lot fewer DCs as of late - and it's been amazing.
I wonder if they tweaked something to make the penalties more aggressive?

I don't think so, those game was probably more fun than current games.
Thing is before, I had option to start friendly and I could get serious during game if needed, so when I saw they are not that good, I often let them recover, so that game doesn't end on 4-5 gens -> that's not fun. I almost always gave a hatch and sometimes multiple survivors, when it was really fun game.
Have you ever seen survivors do it and not just escape when killer has 3 hooks total? I myself never done it, because this is way harder to do as a survivor than a killer. I did give him free kill tho, but that doesn't really help imo.
That is just not an option anymore. It's kinda in hands of survivors now, where problem is: it's kinda impossible to let killer recover as a survivor, only way to do it is always go for totems, so game is longer....
I find my games have always worked the opposite. I have to start serious and then ease up - because I'm not sure if I'm up against a potentially hard game. Especially on specific maps.
The problem with your scenario is that you may be nice, but I'm willing to wager that most killer players aren't that charitable. Hence the endless pre-MMR 'streak' videos, which were mostly just complete stomps.
This game has always been somewhat in the hands of survivors, assuming equal-ish skill levels in the match. The killer has always played a reactive game, as the survivors win by default. And I've...made my peace with that.
I still think that more games having similar skill levels is more healthy, which is what MMR at least aims to accomplish.

Survive while 2 others escape the trial as Yun-Jin Lee. We desperately need to stop with the challenges that forces you to play in a 4 man. I know from a business standpoint I can understand why they do this but it is like having a restaurant and saying "Only come if you are a big family and eat a lot", otherwise there is no cake for you.
I have tried for days and I may let this challenge go because I don't really play much in a tryhard or clicky SWF. I came close to getting this one time but a killer tunneled someone and only one was able to escape while I remained in the trial.

We need to have challenges that are obtainable as solo. You are lucky if one person escapes.
Shrug.
There are plenty of annoying challenges for both survivor and killer. Some of these are things that will take many games to occur. Keep at it and it'll come!

MMR was only implemented in September tho.
Was it? If I understand correctly, it was gradually implemented starting in early-mid 2021.
If we are taking September as the start date, then the drop off seems pretty minor. It's not atypical from the standard wax and wane you see throughout DbD's history.
What we'll have to look at is trends over the next good while. If it continues to drop, then yeah - there's probably a problem. If it doesn't (and I predict that it won't) - then MMR is probably fine, barring a few tweaks (making it more nuanced on the survivor end of things especially).

You prioritize winning over not sweating, and honestly, that's cool. Some people are more competitive than others. However, no one is forcing you to be that way. Just like no one is "forced" to camp/tunnel/gen rush/bring meta perks. People should just own up to their own motivations and stop shifting blame.
"The game needs better balance" - a valid criticism.
"We are forced to do X" - Nah.
I play both to win, and to have fun.
My definition of winning is a little different though - I'm generally not aiming for a 4k. What I try to do is provide the other side with a fun, tense game and to establish control. If they get a 2 or 3 out, it doesn't bother me too much as long as I got a ton of BP and they didn't stomp me.
If I get BMed though - no mercy. My mission is now to wipe you out.

I don't know. I just love this game and am not ready to give it up. I just needed a little rant to get that off my chest. I don't want to get into even more trouble for ban evasion but I'm practically addicted at this point and am not sure what to do without it. Guess you'll be seeing a lot more of me. Lucky you.
This may sound harsh - but the problem isn't the penalty.
The problem (and what you'll have to figure out) is what's causing your DCs.
If it's you quitting, then you need to stop.
If it's an internet issue then you need to fix it.
If it's a DDOS or someone else using your account, then that's an issue you'll need to get to the bottom of first.
To my knowledge, the only way to shrink your DC penalty is to play a lot of games without DCing.

As someone who played more survivor than killer, I can say their is no improvement on my killer end. I consistently get matched against a team equivalent of seal team 6 that makes me feel as if I lost before the match even started. As survivor the system doesn't work because if the matches are supposed to be fair why are my idiot teammates getting matched with the sweatiest killers like I am when they obviously weren't ready for that level of play?
If you're out of your depth, then either there are just too many good people and not enough low MMR people on at that time (morning games are always a grudge match for me) or you'll eventually hit the sweet spot.
MMR has a weird 'calibration' game every so often where it throws me up against some very strong people.
How many hours have you played, if you don't mind me asking?

One small thing to add here.
If a killer is slugging for a 4K, there was never any chance of an escape, because the hatch doesn't count as an escape, it's neutral.
So I wouldn't say the killer is securing a 4K, they already had it. If it's got to that point, it's already snowballed to a 4K scenario.
A true 3K would be 2 survivors left when the exit gates are powered, killer kills one before they pass the threshold, which would sound like it should be a 2K match.
So really, killer can almost always secure 1K more than the outcone of a game would suggest they should get.
So we could even go as far as to adjust all scores down by 1K. A 1K is actually a 0K, a 4K is actually a 3 K, etc.
Sure. But that's not always the case.
I have plenty games where I'll try to camp the last guy out (when I've secured zero kills) and I get outplayed, they had Unbreakable etc. I don't think the killer can always secure a 1k.
But I do see your point.

You also specified since MMR released.
Yes. I stand by that.
35k-50k is a substantial gain within the range I specified.
Naturally, this could also be an attribution fallacy on my end - but my point is that MMR hasn't obviously damaged the game popularity wise, despite the grumbling.
Now, I'll be keeping an eye on things over the next 6 months. If the game implodes, then I'd be happy to concede the point. But I think we'll be at 50-60k average over Christmas and will stabilize at around 55k by Spring.

Lately I've been trying to mess around with my builds but most killer perks are so bad or have little impact that it doesn't even matter if you run them or not.
- Brutal strenght: 2.6s to break a pallet to 2.08. Unnoticeable in most chases as they can get to another tile in most maps (The Game map has so many pallets that it won't make any difference).
- Unnerving Presence: Only works with newer players, I don't remember missing a single UP skill check since years ago.
- Stridor: It was nerfed considering that IW is meta (and probably the strongest survivor perk), now that the Spirit has been nerfed, it should affect IW again.
- Territorial Imperative: Why is this even a perk? Better yet, why does it even has a cooldown?
- Fire Up: The idea is good on theory but in practice is useless, by the time you get its full effect you probably already destroyed most, if not all, pallets and walls. And the game never lasts long enough after all gens are repaired to actually get to use the perk.
- Hangman's Trick: A really cool but specific perk that helped counter sabo, now it's been nerfed. It won't help you, ever.
- Cruel Limits: Only usable 5 times, and in most maps you won't get value in any of those procs.
- Dead Man's Switch: This perk is just straight up bad. It blocks gens that people stop repairing after hooking the obsession, it has a 45s activation window but if someone gets off a gen after 30 seconds of the perk activated, it will only block the gen for 15s.
- Hoarder: It would be ok... maybe... if only didn't spawn more chests and it affected the entire map.
- Oppression: The cooldown makes this perk not being worth picked over other gen regression perks.
- Eruption: 6% of regression when you down someone, that's 4 seconds of gen progress. Go figure.
- Hex Pentimento: A cool perk in theory but only works with broken totems. This has to be the worst possible time to release this perk, who breaks totems now that boons are meta? #########?
- Monstrous Shrine: monstrous shrine.
There are many more perks that are garbage, these are just a few. But it's really sad cause at higher mmr you're forced to pick the same perks over and over unless you want to be genrushed. Maybe if devs actually buffed some of these jokes they call "perks" people would start using them more, making the game more fun and less stale for both killer and survivor. And keep in mind that some of these ######### perks are get only after you spend money on a character, so not only they're bad but you get them while paying for a character.
It seems like the devs are scared to release perks that are strong, but remember that this game is a 4v1, 16 perks against 4. Those 4 perks should be equal on power to the 16. Survivor perks are SO strong nowadays that they can win you games. Dead Hard can get you enough distance to loop for who knows how many seconds, forcing to drop chase in most cases. Decisive Strike can straight up make you lose a game if a survivor uses it (even if you weren't tunneling). Boon totems are a lose-lose for the killer, remember when devs said hexes were supposed to be high risk high reward? seems like they forgot to add the "high risk" part to the boons and only added the high reward. And there are so many second chance perks to the survivor side that sometimes you have to go against the equivalent of 8 survivors.
I'm not saying that survivors don't have bad perks, its just that you have less variety on the killer side and its really unfun, while on the survivor side you're able to run whatever build you like and if your teammates are running the meta, you will still win.
Yes, there are too many useless killer perks. A lot could be fixed by just lowering the cooldown or tweaking a few numbers.
But it could be worse. You could be playing survivor, where you have a ton of good perks - but they are mostly really boring and uninteractive :D.

Yes, if you got 12 hours and the next day you dc again it can get higher. I'm not sure how exactly their penalty stacks, it is better to ask BHVR themselves, though not sure they respond.
Option take a break for a week or two and penalty should shorten. Probably.
Unless they shorten by you playing series of games without DC.
Check router, check cable, call your provider and talk to them about connection to the servers. It's not always great.
AFAIK, you have to play games without DCing to get your penalty to decrease. That's how it works in most other games.
If you continue to DC, the penalty will keep climbing - because those are all 'ruined' games.
If this is a DDOS situation, that's unfortunate and you're going to have to get a VPN or a different IP. But I'm not sure if that's the case here.

We've actually been bleeding players since MMR was announced to be a permanent fixture in August 2021 and that's surprising considering the game was F2P on Steam in October.
Every year has one big drop off, sometime in the Autumn.
I'm not sure you can attribute the August falloff to MMR. Back to school, maybe? Or perhaps there was another game that released around that time? Or maybe people were a bit burned out on the BP grind after the anni event?
June+July were an enormous gain, and the numbers are still pretty healthy. It seems stable at 50k-ish (up from 35k-ish last year) and I think you'll see another gain in December thanks to Artist being released.
Stats are fun :).

To my experience, its around 3-4 DC that multiplies penalty. 5/15/30. Next would be an hour, probably. And its reduced by keeping connection to games stable for 2days+. If you pause a day, the penalty isn't reduced and keeps on growing if you dc around that period
Yes. If you hard DC multiple times in a row, it's going to keep climbing. As it should.
Still - there is no way you got a 24/48 hour ban off 3 DCs. Not unless you DC'ed a ton last week and have zero games where you don't DC.

They really should stop balancing around low rank solo players.
I agree.
Honestly, there is so much that could be done to dramatically improve the balance of the game.
- Rework a ton of maps to remove infinites or absurdly powerful loops.
- Give solo survivors a more robust system of emotes to allow them to communicate better.
- Stop nerfing killers because they are tough to deal with for complete newbies without any regard for their performance at high MMR and buff killers that are nearly unplayable at high MMR. This is the core reason why people complain about only seeing Huntress, Blight, Nurse and Spirit.
Thing is - there are probably a lot more low rank solo players than high MMR monsters. From a business standpoint, DbD has exploded in popularity since MMR (something like a 30-40% gain over this summer alone!).
We will have to see what the midpatch looks like.

I don't think its internet problem. I bet he DCs way less when plays survivor. Its a hack that survs use to keep their winning strike, they ddos killer and make them lose their game by "quitting"
Again, I don't think that you'll get a DC penalty that long for 3 DCs in a week.
I know that I've had periods where I'll DC around that number (inclement weather generally) and I've never seen a penalty longer than 5 minutes.

After not playing for an entire day because of a 24-hour ban, the first disconnect I get coming back is a 48-hour ban? And you all still think these bans are not too strict? This is a rant. And I am done with the rant.
Yes.
Because DCs are an absolute plague in this game. A game where someone DCs, especially early on, is completely ruined.
It is unfortunate that you are having internet issues, but playing with internet issues that mean you DC enough (see: a LOT) to get a penalty that high isn't fair on the other 4 people you are paired with. They deserve games without someone DCing.
Fix your internet then come on back.

I've NEVER ragequit and that's what I don't get. The ban was put in place to protect against rage quitters and I'm the one getting punished for it because I get disconnected 3 times a week. 3 times, to me, is NOT a lot. Yet, because it happens on consecutive days or closely together the penalties add up fast and now i'm looking at 48 hours.
I'm pretty sure that you aren't getting a DC penalty that long for DCing 3 times in a week, unless they literally just tweaked the system to be far more aggressive or you have a lot of DCs in previous weeks.
Could it be that someone else is using your account?

I'm 95% sure that the MMR system will toss you into 10 games where you get 4K'd and 10 where you 4 man escape because that's a 50% Kill Rate and is perfectly balanced to the devs.
I'm not sure if 'perfectly balanced' and 'Dead by Daylight' should even be used in the same sentence :).
However...yeah. That is how MMR works. Otherwise someone is getting a lot of extra 4ks at the expense of someone else getting a lot of extra crushing defeats.

@Tsulan said:
The MMR isn´t the problem. The balance issues that became more visible with the MMR is the Problem. Turning the MMR off without changing the balancing issues is like closing your eyes and claim that everything is fine now.
This is exactly the issue.
MMR is...mostly fine, although it could be a lot more nuanced for survivors.
High MMR is where little imbalances become big imbalances, and big imbalances become enormous.
Every game at high MMR turns into min/maxing and less choice - because that's where the meta is usually set in stone.
Take Starcraft 2 for example. At Bronze-Platinum, you'll see a ton of different wacky builds. At Grandmaster, it's usually the same builds and whichever race is even slightly ahead will make up around 50% of GM.
That's definitely annoying if you are a GM player, but pairing GM players against Gold players, while it'll certainly be fun for the GM and allow for more builds, would be unfair to the Gold.
DbD has iffy balance at the best of times.

Having random games, you could get away with no slow down builds and just play most games for fun and get sweaty only when needed.
It's just bad when you have to be sweaty every game.
Killers just want to play for fun too.
Playing killers got way more stressful for me since SBMM, because I know that even just one mistake can cost me a game.
Only way to enjoy the game for me was just lose on purpose. With that mind set, I didn't care if they escaped, because I would let them leave anyway.
But I have actually stopped playing for some time. SBMM didn't help, but for me it was undeserved nerfs and CoH.
Sure.
But the reason you could do this was that you were being matched up against people a lot less experienced/skilled than you and could still win pretty handily.
This was a lot less fun for them.
I totally hear you regarding CoH and the silly nerfs to Slinger, Wraith and Cenobite which...I honestly can't think of anyone credible who doesn't think they were bogus.

Yes, high MMR is going to be sweaty now - because you aren't constantly getting matched against people far less experienced than you are.
Those '50 streak with a meme build' videos are fun and all, but come at the expense of a lot of less skilled players getting stomped into the dirt.

It's not just Nemesis.
Basically every killer who wants to win will attempt to remove one survivor ASAP.
I don't facecamp, I only engage in very tactical, incidental slugging but if it's between going for the guy with 0 hooks and the guy with 2 hooks, unless there are still 4 gens up I'm probably going for the 2.
Once I've established some control over the game, I may ease up and 2 hook everyone else. I'll also tunnel anyone who is BM, selfish, sandbaggy etc.

Killer: I currently main Pig/Freddy, if they were removed I'd probably play more Demo or Trickster.
Survivor: I main Quentin and if he were to be removed I'd main Leon or Jeff.
Right now, I oscillate between Doctor, Hag, Cenobite (RIP), Plague, Demo and very occasionally Pig. I also plan on playing a ton of Artist on release and intend to eventually learn Pyramid Head and Ghostface.

Yes, it did.
High MMR is basically your first paragraph. Except, you can't improve anymore. Sure, there might be tiny things you can correct, but at a certain point, your own skill no longer matters. You can only win if the other team messes up. You will almost exclusively see 4-man's, because anything less will get slaughtered. You will see the same 7 perks every match. Your build will look the same.
Sure, the novelty of it might keep you satiated for a while, but eventually, you'll release high MMR gameplay is dreadfully one-sided, boring and unfun. Not because of winning or losing, but because your ability to play the game is limited by the imbalance of it.
For example, here's a match I recently played. I was running PGTW, No Way Out, NOED and BBQ. I'm on Mother's Dwelling and it takes me about 20 seconds to find a Survivor. They start running and it takes another 15 for me to hit them. They run to a loop, I mindgame them, they DH to the pallet and I break it. I manage to catch up to and down them in 35 seconds. Takes me 10 seconds to get to a hook. 2 gens pop. I look around on BBQ and see someone else on a gen. I make my way to them. Halfway there, that gen pops.
The issue with high MMR is that, well, the most fun part of the game will lose you the game.
Sure. I'll agree with this.
But I will say three things.
- This is true of every game I've played that is remotely competitive at high MMR. In Starcraft 2, most people at high MMR will be using the same builds and strats, and often whichever race is even slightly 'on-top' in the meta will be 50% of Grandmaster. I don't think this is even possible to fix. To be at the top is to min/max or lose - and that always restricts choice.
- The higher MMR you are, the more small imbalances become big imbalances - because when nobody is making many mistakes, things are decided by those imbalances. And DbD is a game with very, very shaky balance. Even at my level, I'll have a much easier time on some maps than others, against some perks than others, using certain builds, addons and killers.
- Hilarious '50 wins with a meme build' streaks inevitably come at the expense of the weaker players you're paired up against. It's fun for you - but probably not for them.
MMR has definitely made the imbalances of the game, especially at high MMR, more apparent. But that's an issue with balance, not MMR.
That said - my point wasn't really about MMR to start, it was about the OP telling pork pies. Otz never said anything of the sort.
