  • Technically you are right, it's often more meant to express the toxic use of something when it's phrased that way.

I try and play fair. I also play for fun, so don't care about wins or losses, or what strategies a killer or survivor uses to get there, but I do have 1 rule: if you're gonna be a cocky douche with the teabags or flashlight spam, I'll make sure you die lol.

understandable, a tractor abusing meg (it was around after a patch where I started having a hard time landing on the haystack for a while afterwards) I tunneled and camped on her last hook because she kept asking if I wanted some hot bags of tea while playing ring around the rosie on the tractor. she was in a 3 man swf I assume, since two of them were hellbent on trying to save her instead of doing generators.

Oh it's a tactic for sure, just a crappy low effort one that will be annoying to be seen rewarded much more heavily now.

A team of smart players will counteract it. A mildly skilled SWF will also probably be fine. But solo queue games made up of average level players will definitely suffer from more selfish players, since even someone with DS will now be unwilling to attempt a save unless he is very altruistic and doesnt mind possibly sacrificing himself in the end, like you mentioned. I myself don't run DS so it isn't personal- I'm just thinking ahead to how the survivor meta will be quite shaken up when it comes to the DS change.

you make it sound as if everybody will constantly have ds active the entire game by the sound of that. what you're describing won't be as common a situation as you make it out ot be unless it's a lobby full of bad survivors that I wouldn't want to unhook anyways probably let alone risk badly unhooking me. it's making a mountain out of a molehill

trying to not get killed if it was a 3 gen situation isn't "holding the game hostage" (not saying this one was but in those I would do the same thing) it's waiting for the other guy to be stupid or unlucky rather than being stupid yourself, so that you can be the one that gets the hatch.

And killer queues will increase by about 10 minutes at the same time - with tons of bad killers waiting to find a match ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't see why those wanting an edge as survivor would complain about facing more bad killers.

There is no punishment for end game camping at all. Can't slam gens if there are none left. It's an extremely unenjoyable experience to get caught for the first time at end game (perhaps due to NOED) and then get camped and left for dead by your teammates who don't want to risk anything.

Like I said, this doesn't really affect SWF. They can coordinate a save just fine most of the time, if there is at least 2 unhooked people left. But it's a big let down for solo. End game face camping is completely low effort and skill-less from the killer so it's sort of sad that they're taking away an option to combat it. I probably won't be personally affected by it since I usually play SWF anyways, I just feel bad for the solo queue players who are most likely gonna have similar situations pop up fairly often after the DS change.

end game camping is a tactic, they're trying to secure a kill, if you can't safely free them then save yourself. you know, like those life and deathd ecisions people make in movies. where not everybody makes it tot he end of the movie alive, especially the incredibly heroic ones that get themselves killed.

fewer survivors right now means faster survivor queues anyways

People don't care about traps when someone has trap. They popping gens so i have to deal with that. Pig's ambush has counterplay i don't mind it but RNG tunnelling jigsaw boxes are not acceptable imo

somebody posted the other night with an idea that fits the Saw theme on how to deal with the box rng. Their idea was a permanent debuff of some sort (to be figured out and talked through) for the rest of the match, to get the key from the first box (and I suggested onto that immunity to the traps the rest of the match afterwards for "passing the test"). They could pass and take their chances in vegas hitting all of the boxes still with no debuff once they find the right one.

If you have time to tap the gen to stop regression mid chase then you are not being tunneled as hard as you think. Fewer survivors and more killers means faster survivor queues right now, and a likelihood many willing to leave over this were some of the worst teammates anyways so no sweat off anybody's back.

    What makes Haddonfield so bad?

balanced landing some teams use with a map offering (haddon cause of all the windows in the houses all over the map), but generally it's pretty easy to lose the killer without it and to avoid being found altogether even on that map depending on who you're dealing with and the slight randomization of a few things like vault/window and hedge placement. The pallets give you a headstart to lose los in a few spots but do not dance around them or most will get you killed. If you get one around a truck you have enough space to runa round it a bit though unless the killer is a pyramidhead good with his aoe same obviously with doctor.

  • Go with darkness, friend.

  • just annoying, but you may tend to see the people really good with using her playing as her more often than you might see the ones really good with ghostface using ghostface so it might make her seem more powerful. The traps when they instantly activate, that's when I truly find her annoying otherwise when you're down to the last gen you can start working on the trap to avoid it triggering when your're running out the gate. I still see people once in a while doing that and sometimes I cringe and other times I laugh cause it's like "you almost made it, but you played yourself"

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/224316/ds-nerf-makes-basement-a-deathtrap

<laughs> If the Killer has two people hooked in the basement at the same time NOW it is already a deathtrap. Borrowed Time should already be the "go to" for safe rescues in a desperate situation like that. Decisive Strike was never going to be awesome in the situation you describe because Killers that know even the most basic things about the game are going to slug the one unhooked (it will take them forever to crawl out of the basement anyway) and down the would-be rescuer who will not yet have DS active. Most Killers simply slug someone they suspect of having DS anyway. If you are in a basement, they have the luxury of waiting to see if you pop back up on your own using Unbreakable, or until another would-be Survivor comes down the stairs.

In short, your argument holds no water. DS was never an ideal anti-basement Perk in the first place. The best way to avoid getting everyone killed in the basement is not to get hooked there in the first place, and if you must rescue someone there make sure it is a SAFE rescue. A trick that I've used many times is:

    1. Take Borrowed Time.
    2. Take the Add-on: Styptic Agent
    3. If making a basement run (or a rescue against a Face Camper) be sure you are injured so you can use your MedKit. Hit yourself with the Styptic Agent right before running to the hook. Both you and the person you rescue will have the effects of BT and can likely get a running start. It is remarkably effective and tends to confuse the crud out of the Killer.

lol I just hook suicide and so does the other guy often when I'm hooked in the basement with somebody already up there, that's a couple minutes that could have been into another queue instead ofa likely lost cause lol

  • @CheyeneKL said:

All I want is for them to change the unhook deactivation, tbh. I don't care about it deactivating upon productivity, just dislike how new DS heavily discourages altruism and promotes inefficiency overall now. That's fine and dandy for SWF because you can just find another teammate to do something for you, but it definitely cucks solo queue players. Keep the healing deactivation, sure (even though that also leads to anti-altruism), but I do hope to see it altered to allow for unhooking again, perhaps.

Either way, devs will get to see data and find out how much DS changes effect kill rates/survival rates, and I'm sure they'll adjust parts of the game accordingly.

na unhooking somebody shouldn't be free, it should be a risky move for both you and them, and if the killer camps punish them slamming generators together

  • You know what i really want to read about here tonight?

  • I dunno if survivor queues lose about 10 minutes it'll only be good for the rest especially if most were the bad mates that left

  • lol right now if the game loses survivors it'll justs peed up the queues for the rest of the survivors so don't let the door hit you otw out. one less bad teammate. You can gladly give your one minute to me in a rebate in the queue.

You aren't being tunneled if you have the time start doing any kind of action.

and going to work on a gen that isn't in earshot or in the killer's face you would eventually run the timer off or it would run out during the next chase anyways, so not much different when not intentionally abused considering a locker can still help if you had a bad unhook from a teammate without a close enough pallet. It shouldn't be felt much by people using it properly. It should be mostly trolls or people that weren't playing more carefully having the most problem with the change.

  • @Sonzaishinai said:

I just hope survivors actually use this information. Too many times survivors sit at a safe distance to shake their fist at the killer instead of actually doing something.

Bodyblocks + taking aggro makes it really hard to tunnel someone. Hell i would bodyblock while injured if I haven't been hooked yet and someone on deathhook is getting tunneled

not gonna lie, I'll take a protection hit mostly if I still need a wglf stack, or we're running through the hall or just outside of the exit gate and I know they don't have noed (meaning already hit somebody and they didn't go from fullt o down or the totem was destroyed already for it or I visually confirmed all bones are down on the map already during the game). I haven't played as much in recent months and every time I come back my teammates make me wanna be the second killer in some games.

  • if you run for three gens, or even a full gen, you're chasing too long. when you realize somebody is too good for you to catch you should ignore them and only chase the easiest ones to catch until you get them out of the game. yes, that means tunnel one out if necessary since it slows down gen progression and lets you then focus on the others who then need to be more careful especially if you can drive them into a '3 gen'. If you do, don't chase anyone outside of the gen-eral area of them, no matter how easy they are to catch since you'll be in control as long as you make sure they can't finish them. As long as they don't find a key in a chest anyways

Or, hear me out, it’s the simpler solution. All of this complaining is unnecessary. Killer is significantly easier than solo survivor. like I said above, the game is easier for me than other people (it seems). I’m not saying other people haven’t worked hard for their rank, but this complaining is insane. Rank is not hard to get. It shouldn’t be the metric.

sweaty 4swf is annoying, 1v3v1 as a solo survivor is annoying. It’s all a part of the game

my third game back last year around when pyramidhead came out, after not playing since late 2016 as the time I'd been able to recollect, was one of the most annoying deliberately trolly swf groups I'd had to put up with before or since then and it was 3 red ranks with ahigh teens smurf abusing the smurf to get matched against me. But on average, if I played 3 to 4 matches at least a night on killer I came across at least one extremely sweaty group most nights and often a super trolly one out to waste my time and frustrate me. Like say I played 10 matches, 1 or 2 of those were almost certain to be super sweaty. sometimes add another 1 or 2 on top of that, but not all the time. But while that sounds like a low number (there were more swf, I was checking the public profiles) for the extremely annoying sorts those make the biggest impact to have to put up with. Eventually I would play until I came across that and then call it a night and only play the survivor the rest of the night. So I wouldn't get in more than 4 or 5 before it was all survivor again afterward.

I won't put up with that behavior, apparently enough others also won't that it hurt the queues again for a while without them even doing it in a coordinated effort, people just got burned out enough to decide to stop playing it on their own. Which says something about the state of the game in my opinion. Complaints are sometimes necessary in order to make a grievance clear and bring issues to light, sure it tends to be done in excess and not always when necessary in this game among some other games, but there are times when it does become necessary to bring attention to somehting or show just how many people are having issues.

The real problem always comes back with people that accuse or complain too much to a story I read as a very little kid called The Boy That Cried Wolf. The boy basically got himself killed the one time he was telling the truth because the village had gotten sick of him lying all the time and they ignored him when he cried for legitimate help. Chronic complaining turns out the same way, it gets shrugged off even once it's legitimate since it's a common thing in online games these days mainly done excessively in pvp games but understandable to a degree when it's competitive.

I thought I recognized it since I remember I once took that particular image off of google to use on a forum myself. My own current discord pic is the one of Patrick Bateman with the smug angled grin, one of the more common pics that tend to show up googling for images of him.

  • @Jamlpr said:

I started playing this game after last rank reset. I have both killer and survivor in red ranks. Killer is easier, hands down, than survivor. No idea what people complain about when it comes to killer. Sweaty SWF groups are so rare it’s insane. Usually it’s uncoordinated solos who get absolutely dumpstered on.

the real 1v4 is when you play solo survivor haha

that's because most survivors are either bad or average,a mixture of good and bad decisions and average mechanical skill and you were filling a void during the shortage. as well as many of those survivors effectively experiencing boosting from some of the bad matchups which had been worse than usual for a while now if not most of the time since you started playing. It's also possible you were playing against a lot of newer players too. older players might have known to take a break until queues got better while waiting to see which patch would be worth coming back to.

So survivors are being given a separated hook widget to let them know when to take hits to prevent someone on death hook going down or to prevent them wasting time running to unhook if someone's on death hook.

But killers are being denied the same information with the excuse that it "would encourage tunneling" despite actual tunneling wouldn't be effected because a killer is going to tunnel they'll still do exactly what they do now and go back to the hook as soon as the survivor is unhooked and only chase them.

in that same conversation they state they don't see tunneling as an issue, they see it as a valid tactic.

this really begs the question why should a killer have to remember each survivors hook state but the survivors be given that information freely?

swf already had this information, all this does is bring solo more up to speed. solo already had some available if they paid attention enough anyways. you just have to think less about it with that it sounds like. Hopefully the killer gets some neat trackers too, since they have tot hink about so much and keep track of survivor perks even lol. I used to use RTSS overlay displaying the system time to track ds lol. onc onsole I suppose hitting the browser/xmb could do the same thing but that takes time away from you doing that on there. It's quicker doing it on ps5 with a quick tap and a cpu that can handle it qithout lags but on ps4 pro I had to hold the ps button in to get the sidebar up and see spotify or the time or to close games. That reminds me it's time to check out nioh remastered.

A killer should be aware of who's onw hat hook btw, they put em there. You only have 4 people, and only need to remember 2 previous hooks for each. I could have done that in preschool. The steam users using the same alias with the same costumes, trinkets, and maybe items like al toolboxes would still have been a problem anyways widgey or not. In those situations look at the injured status and which names they're under to keep track between them.

I shouldn’t have to play a certain way because the killer doesn’t like it. Keep DS the game and just fix maps

maybe you were playing pretty badly before, or just trying to mess with the killer or rub blanket immunity in their face? ds hasn't changed much for anybody bringing it to have a slight protection from being tunneled. making bad decisions (doing a gen right next to the hook you came off of or in their face as examples of bad decisions right after being unhooked) or wanting to rub blanket immunity in the killers' faces is just what you'll have to reconsider now is all. I expect queue times to be shortened by even up around 5 minutes or so shaved off for survivors now thanks to these needed adjustments and the restored willingness of some to play killer more often. So if your matches come much faster you should be thankful.

  • @IhateDBDsoMuch said:

I think ds should kill the killer or at least knock him out for 1 minute. And object of obsession should blind the killer indefinitely.

sounds fair considering the killer already has the advantage in numbers. yes this is a serious statement, one killer is worth 5 survivors because he's op.

  • If you already hooked me and I'm not the last guy alive and you hook me again it's tunneling. They should bake the glossary and rulebook into the game's tutorial area.

  • It forms a feedback loop of bad mmr and teammates doing that ironically. How are the survivor queue lengths tonight btw? I would have to install the game to check them myself.

  • @landromat said:

Tunneling is desire to remove certain survivor from the game as soon as possible.

If killer chases you because he can't find unhooker or for whatever reason and slugs you - you are not getting tunneled

Some people are so dumb they don't know simplest things

why would he be looking for anhooker when he should be out hooking himself before those generators go off in his face

  • @dezzmont said:

Nope. If you unhook right in front of the killer, and the killer hits the person who was unhooked, it doesn't mean the killer was toxic.

It means you are bad, and farmed your teammate. The pip system punishes YOU and REWARDS the killer right now, and that is a good design. The killer should be rewarded for high skill plays, and punishing survivor mistakes is a high skill play.

The devs experimented with a few more anti-camp/tunnel penalties before, and found that it just results in the game breaking, which makes sense: Any further punishment to killers defending the hook other than what they already got would mean making hooking actively bad for killer, and removing any skill from survivor rescue plays.

If you wanna unhook in the killer's face, run borrowed time and eat the hit for your buddy so that all together the killer needs to land 3 attacks to down the hooked victim. If you don't want to do that, count to 30 and rescue then so the killer isn't right next to the hook. Insta-rescues, aka hook farming, is a very low skill survivor play that FORCES the killer to tunnel to maintain pressure.

if you're ona gen halfway over, or close to halfway if at least one other person is on it with you (one runs off closer to finishing it to rescue before the next hook stage) then finish the gen to use the time more efficiently. Unless it's double bp and you are using bp offerings or there's streamers and you want as many points as possible, but even then, wait until the killer is far enough away and take protection hits to build wglf stacks off the guy. Don't let him go down until it at least says it was a safe unhook lol.

  • a way to be dead is coming out with some interesting mechanics, so they are probably trying to get dbd ready to be competitive between that and the evil dead game coming later in the year, competition is already making dbd a better experience and those other games aren't even out yet. showing how healthy competition is.

lol yeah if you check enough chests you get one every few games at least often enough with plunderer. how are the queue lengths tonight after the ds change for survivor queue length compared to previously? Might be your DNS but I did notice the other day a lot of comments from certain people disappeared randomly. Granted I'd not heard of BHVR shadowbanning usually they just blatantly ban people.

But yeah a lot of people just double down with the new penalty system and I feel that's why we shouldn't pursue this system further for punishing killers for taking advantage of the options they have.

It was odd swapping back and forth, but it finally started working again without the vpn after a few minutes so idk what happened. I did make sarcastic joke posts sometimes that some softer sorts would view maybe as edgy so I wouldn't be surprised if a couple certain posts disappeared just to avoid the reactions possible to them. I mean I would understand why a couple of them specifically would disappear if they have, even thought hey weren't something ban worthy (which would be why I'm not banned for them). They were jokes but some people take some things too seriously these days and could have overreacted to them probably if they needed some exlax.

  • no, first of all the more complexity there is the more chances for bugs there are, and secondly being down is the punishment for taking the hit. they can lay there slugged for a minute, they can use unbreakable, or they might get to use their perk up and have it gone afterward. it's fine as it is, no need to add unnecessary complexity know the bugs it could lead to.

I used no mither with ds, dead hard and deliverance one night and it took a few games but finally got one where I totally got to use every single one of the perks for some good laughs. gates were powered, first hook finally had deliverance up, ds was a deterrent right at the exit gate when I had it to 99 before I had the trapper down me and leave me there (probably deterred by ds and the obsession) while the killer was far enough away looking for the other guy (who also used deliverance after the gates were powered lmfao) I finished reviving myself with no mither once I crawled a little from the trap to avoid a buggy snap into it, disarmed it, tapped the gate, waited inside byt he exit to teabag and let him pointlessly hit me so I could fall into an escape. all for great justice. The other guy got out too so I'm sure we all had a great time. Except those two that died.
