The real question is, why does GF get an alert that a survivor is exposing him? Survivors have no idea they are being stalked till it's to late. So why does GF get that knowledge?
There's 4 survivors. There's only one Ghostface.

Must have been before my time... Though I don't see how survivors abuse it when all the killer had to do its walk away!
So, killer hooks a survivor. Visually SEES a survivor run to the hook before he has a chance to walk away. He's supposed to just LET them get the unhook? Or chase them around the hook (which would be the survivors fault, not the killers) and have the progress of the hook slowed?
Are you okay? Jesus christ.

I disagree with you that 90% of the time killers are trying to slug them off an unsafe unhook to punish the other guys altruism. The vast majority of the time it happens to me they immediately rehook me. Or chase the other guy enough to get a hit or down. And then immediately rehook me.
That said, what you described is exactly what I do. For the exact reason you mentioned.
DS is a thing that exists. Killers always anticipate it, unless there's no obsession. Then it would just straight up be a bad play not to hook them again.
-
I approve of this thread.
Play to win, dude. However you see fit. Take that survivor rulebook and wipe your ass with it.

The death progress on a survivor when hooked should be slowed when a killer is in range, according to the heartbeat strength to the point where it just stops decaying when your standing there face camping.
Problem solved.
They tried that. It was easily abused by survivors. Go figure.

There is too many variables for this to be good, IMO.
For example are they going to take into account offerings and add ons used? Would it be fair to say someone is skilled with a Trapper who won using an ebony mori than one who 4k'ed without it. Or a Huntress with iri heads and infantry belt over one with no add ons etc.
It seems like a very flawed system to me.
Your first sentence says it all.
Another good analogy is like what @ScottJund said
"Are you a bad Wraith because you were put on Blood Lodge, one of the most open maps in the game?"
"Are you a good survivor because you led a killer for 3 minutes, and 3 gens, but used all the pallet on the map and left your team with zero resources?"

People think "oh you want BT to be nerfed a bit? TUNNELER!!!11111" Same with DS.
Point is that just because something is overtuned (BT, DS), doesn't mean we want to tunnel.
I mean, BT just needs to be changed so if the unhooked person takes a hit, they still don't go down, but that hit also strips the unhooker of the ability to get a safe unhook. The effect on the unhooked survivor would remain the same.
As for DS, just make it so if someone else is hooked, you unhook someone else, you fully heal, or you get on a generator, it disables. If any of those 4 things happen, you are obviously not being tunneled. I have zero issues with anti tunnel perks, as long as they don't reward just parading yourself in the killers face cause you know you are invincible.
-
@Leachy_Jr said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/174220/why-do-people-dislike-borrowed-time
Because it rewards bad hook saves.
I don't mind it, I do think the timer is a bit too long, but whatever. It as a perk needs to be in the game to counter hard camping.
This exactly. I'm more than fine with borrowed time punishing tunneling killers, but it shouldn't be rewarding hook farmers.
EDIT: I actually think a good fix for it would be that EVEN if the unhooker had borrowed time, if they farm the survivor in the killers face, borrowed time STILL works for the one who was unhooked, but if they take a hook and get put into the mending state, the unhooker no longer gets the "Safe unhook" points. For the unhooker, it would be as if borrowed time didn't exist. They would still be punished, and the freshly unhooked person wouldn't likely get tunneled, or even slugged.

Behave or not, the perk it's doing it's job which is to prevent tunneling, so what about you accept it?
Well, why instead of going back to the hook, they dont pressure gens? (and they wonder why gens pop like crazy) the perk it's doing it's J O B, dont go back to the hook or just chase the unhooker.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1468893#Comment_1468893
Uhh I have never seen that happen, can you include a vid proof from it?
It's not about "going back to the hook". They were never given the chance to LEAVE the hook. The person was unhooked in the killers face. That's what I'm talking about.
But since you think that's "tunneling", there's no rational conversation to be had with the likes of you.

I've seen BT be used when not against camping killers more times than not. It's usually used to dive bomb and insta save off hooks as soon as the killer begins to walk away. If you really want it to be anti-camp, perhaps making it so BT doesn't become usable until 10 seconds after hooking would be a good solution.

The only problem I have with that is when the person who makes the save is someone I already hooked recently, they got saved as I downed this other person and they still have DS. I'm screwed no matter who I choose to go after. One has DS. The other has BT and can also have DS. I can slug but they could have unbreakable. There is no right choice.
Another good point.

It is doing it's job, DONT tunnel the unhooked survivor, go for the unhooked. And if they unhook in your face it is basically a hook trade, so why do you complain?
You know, if you get tunneled that often, it's probably something you're doing. If it's anything like how you behave here, I don't blame killers for tunneling you.
In all honestly - most times when a killer goes after a survivor that was just unhooked, it's because they were unhooked in the killers face, and they usually, 90% of the time, just slug them, in order to cuck the unhooker of their altruism as a punishment for farming. Not sure what your backwards definition of tunneling is, but this isn't tunneling.

I’d be annoyed if they nerfed her again after they caved in to pressure and reverted the Billy balance patch.
All they really need to do is add a slightly different animation to when she goes into phasing. Possibly add directional footsteps sounds so she actually makes a noteably noise when she's phasing. Maybe even add that if she phases through grass, the grass moves. It wouldn't gut her, but it would give her counterplay IMO.

Against a good Billy you could do equally few. Had enough games where survivors were downed every 30 seconds until the 4k with 5 gens left. And it was not necessarily potato survivors, just Billy knowing about their timing and curving.
It is just sad that killers get either powered up by less counterplay or get gutted in both power and fun to play.
This will sound mean - but even if that was against a good Billy, the survivors sucked hard for that to happen.

I mean what you're saying about licensing and all, there's no debating that, but look at H1 compared to H2. The mask in H2 doesn't look anything like H1 and it's the same exact mask as the original, just stretched out because Dick Warlock's head was bigger than Nick Castle's (for anyone that didn't know that lol). Just saying, I agree with OP, you can make the mask look 10x better without actually replicating it identically.
And if they're not gonna change it, they should add another costume and make an H4/H6 style masks or even something like H20, even though that mask isn't nearly as scary as the rest imo.
Also, wth is up with the size of killers hands? Michael and Freddy look like their hands were stung by a hundred bees.
I mean, possibly.
But I also think the new lighting will do the mask absolute wonders.
Actually, most of the character models in DBD are quite amazing, it's just that they are toned down in game due to the graphics engine. If you want to see Myers, for example, with excellent lighting and extremely high quality rendering...you tell me the lighting here doesn't make it look infinitely better.

Well damn :/, well the mask looks decent anyways, It's more of a personal thing for me since im a huge slasher fan and the original Halloween is my favourite slasher. Well, have a good day.
Put it this way - remember back in like 2008 (not sure how old you are) when Apple sued Samsung because Samsung's tablet kind of looked like Apples tablet from across the room with the lights off? And they won like...2 billion or something? Yeah, that's how broad patent/infringement laws are.

Yeah i know but can then make it at least somewhat more faithful to the movie? (Not completely copy it, we don't wan't a lawsuit like F13)
I mean, it's about as close as they can get right now. Infringement laws are a pretty broad range, so I doubt they could get any closer.
-
They can't make the Myers mask look exactly like it does in the movies for license reasons. The mask used in the movies was actually a Star Trek/William Shatner mask painted white. Literally. So that's a separate license all together. All they can do is be semi faithful to the original look like they are now.

It IS the entire point of her power. To use your ears. Since it's the only reliable source of information she has (if you say scratch marks are in any way reliable, you need to concede, immediately). Directional audio is ALREADY balanced. Your solution of removing it and gutting her chase potential is just awful.
The answer isn't to nerf something, but add to the survivors ability to counterplay her. Period.
-
Calm spirit is already a good perk. I use it almost every game. Comes in clutch against Clown, Doc, Infectious, Iron Maiden etc.

@PassarinoT said:

Her power doesn't have an "entire point", it has multiple uses. Directional audio isn't an official part of her lore or anything, she's just a spirit. I'm not even saying this needs to be implemented. A PTB to see how much it requires skill over headphones is all I want to see.
And I have even suggested that if this change was added, her base speed could be buffed to balance it out.
Why does "directional" (aka, realistic hearing) audio have to be a part of a killers lore? Does resetting traps on the ground have to be a part of trappers lore? Cause it's not. That is such a weak point, lol
Again, you're wrong. Taking away her directional audio would render her chase potential worthless. She's already a 110 killer. My suggestions are flat out better. They keep her powerful, but give her counterplay. Which SHOULD BE, ALWAYS, the goal over an outright nerf like you're suggesting.
-
I mean, Discordance and Whispers are two situational perks that are meant for 2 completely different situations. The only thing they have in common is that they are tracking perks, but they are each a different KIND of tracking.
Discordance can be useful, but generally you know where gens are and which ones people are working on anyway. Whispers helps locate super immersed survivors, and also comes in clutch when you close the hatch and the gates are on opposite sides of the map.

Legit though - in most cases it doesn't matter who you play or how you play, you'll get salty survivors. Fair point, but it's still ruining the game for the person being farmed. Wouldn't that make it toxic?
No.
A person not having fun/liking something that's happening does not make that thing toxic.
Toxicity is an attitude/state of mind. An intention.
You could argue that the players FARMING that person are being toxic, but there's absolutely nothing toxic about the killer taking advantage of survivors screw ups.

@PassarinoT said:

No, people don't realize how powerful I am saying she can be. I don't want her audio gone, I want it changed.
Currently, she can hone in on three things:
- Visual queues, minus the survivors
- Sounds: Direction
- Sounds: Volume
I am only saying to take away the directional aspect. That still leaves her with visual queues and volume. When phasing, it would become a game of hot and cold. You can't tell right away what direction the survivors are, you have to play quick trial and error with the volume. When you are going the wrong way, you'll know from decrease in volume and vise versa. She will remain powerful, just this time players will have to, drumroll please, think.
The entire point of her power is to use directional sound. Again, if you take something AWAY from her, she becomes worthless.
Survivors complain that it's a guessing game when going against a spirit, so taking away directional audio only makes it so it's a guessing game with her. Which completely invalidates her need to use her phasing. It's an awful idea, straight up. She just needs tells. A different animation on her husk when she is phasing, and directional footsteps while she is phasing that the survivors can hear and react to, also, as I said, she should effect things like grass when she phases through it.
The answer isn't always to nerf something.
-
@DragonMasterDarren said:
i define toxicity as "disrespectful behaviour intended on annoying or otherwise provoking the other side"
this includes, Teabagging, Flashlight clicking, Facecamping (before EGC) and tunneling (also before EGC)
Tunneling and camping aren't always intended to annoy. There's times where you'll be playing a map like Cowshed, or Haddonfield, and 3 gens pop in the first 2 minutes. At this point, either you play by the survivor rule book, or you tunnel someone out of the game. A lot of the time, if you don't do that, you just lose.
Still though - in reality, nothing in the game is toxic unless it goes against the rules set by the devs. Players don't determine toxic. The people who write the rules do.
-
I don't think taking away the information she has is the answer. If you do that, she becomes basically useless. Going from A tier all the way down to nearly C tier.
I honestly think that if she had a visual tell whenever she started her phase, it would make a world of difference. Also bring back the thing where the grass moves where she phases and give her footstep sounds.

I want to know what you guys think about comms, about people playing while communicating with each other.
Were comms intented in the game ? Are they fair ?
If they're not intented why make some perks only worth running if you're coordinated (so on comms) ? I can list for example Soul guard, BT, Unbreakable. Why am i saying that they are worth running only when you're coordinated ? Well soul guard grants you invincibility for 8 seconds, if you're playing solo, you will almost never will get use of it, but if you are playing with someone, you can coordinate a good timed save while also bodyblocking the killer from hitting your friend.
BT, same, don't worth running in solo, because there're always some dumb players to farm the hooked person without BT. When playing with friends, everybody know who will go to the save, the survivor with BT.
Unbreakable will do more harm than good if you're in solo Q, nonody knows you can get yourself up, so they will waste time running around the map the heal you.
Comms solve this aspect of the game, making it more enjoyable, but they also give another advantage, it gives you free perks like bond, kindred, empathy, alert, aftercare, and many others.
Comms were never intended for DBD (SWF wasn't even in the first release of the game, they just added it cause people would constantly dodge lobbies until they finally matched with their friends anyway). That being said, there's not a lot that can be done about them, and honestly, while they do have the potential to be unfair, 90% of SWFs are just shooting the ######### with their friends. They aren't super tryhard and the most hardcore info they tend to give out is "hex totem is over at this location!", but hex totems are usually found quick anyway.

Reason not to tunnel? Here i'll give you one:
- TO WIN THE MATCH
That depends on the situation. If you're Clown, going up against a team you know is a 4-stack SWF, and nobody is an obsession, it makes a lot of sense to tunnel someone out early. Especially on a map like Cowshed or Torment Creek.
-
I mean, the stuff they said is never really okay, but you did go in as one of the most powerful killers in the game that many times has zero counters, and you even admit to BMing them. With no word on if they did the same to you.

This is obviously for early game dcs.
How do you determine whether it's late or early game? How do you determine the state of generators independant of late/earlyness of the game? Do you deserve a safety pip if its only 2 minutes in, theres 2 gens done but the other 3 are basically 99'd? What if the game has been going for 15 minutes but your team was too pepega to do any gens and you're still at 5 gens with ruin up?
The only way I'd be okay with this is if it also counted as a full-on sacrifice for the killer.
Why are pips so important to you? They literally don't matter. Devs own words. They are a participation trophy.
Also, DC penalties not being a thing is temporary.
-
That would have to depend on how early/late the game is.
If someone DC's when there's 1 gen left, do you honestly think you should get a safety pip?

Freddy can lock down loops so fast you don't have any interaction and patrol gens like none other. Absolute most boring of all.
Spirit is fun if you have spine chill if not then its guessing games. No fun.
Legion forces very thrilling gen rush. It's that or heal forever and most likely die of sheer boredom and desperation.
Doc has his moments I have no complaints aside from the tier 3 slug heal block.
I'd like to add that ghost face is boring because you're damned if you look at him and you're damned if you don't. Not much to do then but run spine chill (again) and be a wallflower.
Freddy can only do that against a survivor who doesn't know how to loop a Freddy. This goes back to "sometimes simply running in circles isn't the answer". Legion is annoying, as I said, but has counters. Doc is a non issue. As for Ghostface, I have never had an issue revealing him. So I can't speak on that. I do it pretty much 100% of the time. Spine chill also has more uses than just being a warning perk. It's also key to the vault build, which I love using, by the way.
As for Spirit, I'll give you spirit. She needs some sort of tell when she goes into her power.

Did you also know that repressed alliance has a very long cooldown? It's not the perfect counter by any means.
You are not entitled to every kill in every situation, so if the gates are opened you might want to down someone else or is tunneling your preference?
It does have a very long cooldown, which should be manageable unless your team is getting hooked every 10 seconds, then Pop wouldn't matter anyway. I never said killers were entitled to anything. You're making an argument that has nothing to do with the thread. If the gates are opened, the CORRECT PLAY is to go after the injured person. However, if that person has DS, there is literally no counter to it. I mean, this is a thread based on whining about counters. So it's a valid standpoint.
