  • While I agree on the hitboxes, RL isn't perfect.

I only play ranked 1v1 on it and the forfeit option is being used way too often, and even before that becomes available for use they can just leave the game and get some sort of punishment. Since I don't leave games I don't know what that might be.

But in RL I encounter way more quitters than in DbD, be that forfeit option or just plain disconnecting from the game.

But the ranking system is very good, might even go as far to say it's better than anything I have seen, for example CS:GO.

The seasons (rank reset) are longer, you do not instantly gain a rank but have to play 10 games before you get a visible rank, while you are getting there you still get matched with equal rank opponents anyway and can get an idea where you might get placed after those 10 games.

Rewards are a good way to stop deranking in most cases and with longer seasons they are meaningful too, if you would get rewarded monthly it wouldn't be that great.

  • I don't know what it says on console but on PC it says "Achieve a merciless victory with The Hag using only her 3 unique perks."

  • Someone had red ping in the lobby and called me a lag switcher (profile comment) after he ragequit when he failed at looping and got downed in the first minute of the game.

I regret not checking his ping or where he was from (I sometimes check survivor/killer location via IP address using my firewall)

I got called a "useless mate" who disconnects during loading screen on a profile comment. Pick one? Can't be very useful if not loading into the game can I? This was while I was suffering from the infinite loading screen bug which is still affecting some people (but not me).

.. Guess what, I was the killer in that game and obviously I didn't disconnect, neither did he. Tried to tell him that by commenting on his profile page telling him that I was playing killer rather than survivor but he just deleted my comment and did nothing with his comment on my profile page.

Save files are not saved locally anymore, they are stored in the backend and have been for quite a while now. You cannot just swap out your save file for someone else's anymore.

You may have a copy of it in your files, but it will not do anything.

This has been the case since 7.3.2018, however..

There still is a way I have seen people with Steam accounts created in May 2018 and after having legacy clothing in-game.

No idea how that's done with save file being in the cloud server and never touching your local hard drive.

Maybe the server accepts specific requests to the save file or you can alter it on first time you launch your game if it checks for existing save files on your local hard drive.

What you're talking about has been fixed since then. If you find someone that you think had cheated, you can send us a ticket at support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us and we'll take care of it.

I have used in-game reporting for those, where I write the Steam account creation date - most frequently they have a private Steam profile but that doesn't stop me from reporting them and finding the approximate date of account creation.

    Is ticket required?

  • As an achievement hunter, no thanks.

However a simple cosmetic in-game item with text "Season 1 Rank 1" would be a cool idea.

Also, isn't this game full of private profile people anyway?
I haven't opened profiles anymore since March 2018.. (unless I had to report someone)

EDIT: How are console profile pages anyway? Does it show achievements (trophies) there?

  • @twistedmonkey said:
They removed it from killers as survivors could block them in steam and check if they were in the lobby also they could see if they played certain killers due to achievements.

I hope this is an intended feature for a test as there is no reason to see a steam profile it just breeds more toxicity, they should remove the option to see them on both sides and when you send a report it links the profile to the devs only.

Do you have a source to that reason of removal?

Anyway, I have found it handy in reporting legacy cheaters.
Usually when I see legacy clothing I check the profile page and check the profile page age (less than 10% have changed default Steam privacy setting to show game data publicly), if the age is newer than legacy cut off date -> report. Works nicely even on private Steam profiles.

I never tried it on killer tbh... Though, if you are invisible on steam (or offline), than recent games won't update itself

It used to work on both sides but for some reason it got removed from killers, on purpose.
I forgot if a reason was said or not..

Same on PC. A bit annoying. Fortunately you can go to Steam overlay -> View Players -> Recent Games to check others' profiles

For me that doesn't work. It shows only sometimes people, so I mostly see profiles I versed days/weeks ago. Any way to fix that? (and yes, sorted by date)

    That only works for survivors.

  • I have opened the ports years ago for other games using Steam and it's matchmaking, never had them closed or "default" value for Windows while played Dead by Daylight.

I have played on my own PC (ports open) and other PCs where ports are either closed or allowed through Windows firewall when prompted by new connection attempts and I haven't seen any difference for this game between the two options.

It's still at times very slow searching for lobbies and keeps changing whenever there is a matchmaking changes for this game.

    At the moment with 2.4.0, all required ports open, current matchmaking settings at BHVR end;
survivor finding lobbies time ~1-40 seconds
killer finding survivors time ~1-15 minutes
..and lobbies getting stuck for ~5-50 minutes if someone leaves the lobby

I don't think I have seen a non-Valve game where opening the required Steam ports make any difference really.

    Side note
All games using matchmaking system seems to ignore my country (Finland) and rather tend to match me with people from the East with slightly higher ping than people from the West. Even Discord defaults voice server to Russia rather than EU West if I initiate a voice call with someone else who is living inside Finland.

And comparing with my friends from Sweden, Netherlands and me using VPN to those or other EU countries such as Germany is 1-4 times faster on all games using matchmaking system, either their own or Steams.

Tested the matchmaking using 3 different ISPs and they all have that issue. With 10 to 250 MBps download and 5 to 100 MBps upload speeds and required ports opened.

  • I am no controller user so I can't help (mainly because Steam Controller does not work for some reason for this game).

But I am Windows user so I can suggest how to be productive while waiting for lobbies however..
You can quickly alt+tab between game and other active Windows windows or use Steam overlay web browser but without Steam big picture if possible because that version of the web browser is not so good.

  • You left me negative comment on my Steam profile but I will help you either way, you are welcome..

  • Where do you check for ban status?

Temporary in-game bans do not show up on Steam community profile pages.

Only permanent bans either by EAC or manually by game developers show up on Steam profile pages for this game.

Other game developers might use game ban system to display temporary bans on profile pages who do not have their own in-game ban system in place.

  • You don't have any game bans listed on your Steam account. To confirm this yourself open Steam -> Settings -> Account
This is for permanent bans only. Temporary bans appear when you launch the game and indicate how long they last for.

    What issue are you having?

The funny thing is I reported a couple players once on PS4 because they were working together as killer and survivor. I recorded the game, uploaded it to YouTube and emailed support. They responded and asked me follow up questions as if they were actually going to do something about it. Then they tell us on the dev stream that they have no tools to punish anyone on console.

So was it literally someone's job at one point to pretend that they were going to do something about cheaters on consoles?

Do you have a link or know which video they stated that they "have no tools to punish anyone on console"?

I can second that statement. It was many streams ago.

Dev stream #99 if I remember correctly.

  • That folder hasn't been used since 6th of March 2018 after they moved all save data to their servers.

So if you started playing after that date there will be nothing there.

As of now you can't backup your own save file as it's no longer saved locally to your machine.

  • There is a bug where if the killer hits M1 while you hit the skillcheck you wont get dropped but the timing is very tricky.

Never seen anyone complaining about disconnect ban on any of the forums (this or Steam), never seen any screenshots of disconnect bans either. But I guess they are punishing them.

I still see lots of people disconnecting on first time being downed or hooked - or just before last hook.

  • You cannot see if you lag as a killer because you are the game server yourself, only way is to ask survivors or see if they are streaming live.

  • Leveling up gives you shards as a reward depending on your level.

  • If you play killer you can see your ping to survivors by hovering over their names in lobby, it's the number between name and ms. ms means milliseconds between you and the survivor machine.

It also has a color scale, green, yellow and red.

If you play survivor you will see the ping between the killers machine and yours at bottom of the chat box.

How many users does your workplace have? Heavy load can increase the latency.

This game uses EAC not VAC.
EAC does not automatically ban you for lagging, if anything it needs to be a manual ban applied by the game developer - but that is very hard to prove if it's on purpose or not etc.. Very unlikely you will get banned for that.

Only way to make it better is to use wired connection if possible.
Also some workplaces can use VPN connections which increase the latency depending on how far away the VPN end point is from your geographical location.

As a killer your ping will always be 0-10 ("hardware lag") to the "game server" because you are acting as one, but if you play as a survivor your ping will be whatever it is between your machine and the killers machine in milliseconds. And ping isn't everything always, the killers PC may lag causing jerkiness even with low ping, where it fails to report back to clients (survivors) in time which is reasonable to the compared milliseconds (ping).

  • When did they tell us not to use the website?

I haven't watched dev streams lately but I remember them telling not to use the Google form, which was deleted and to use in-game instead.

However I have sent my proofs for reports via support.deadbydaylight.com website, even if you have sent any emails you will see those emails sent on the website and can add additional messages to your existing tickets there.

EDIT: Did not see the post above this because it was posted nearly at same time.
That is not holding the game as a hostage, that is the killer doing their objective - bleeding out is OK and isn't forbidden. There are no rules where you must hook someone you downed.
