Lore wise, yeah, if she really refuses to kill for the Entity she won't be used by it anymore. Gameplay wise, no, she'll be in the game. Remember, you have to pull apart the story the Devs are telling and the actual game. Look at Overwatch, it's the same deal. Why is so and so fighting so and so? It's a game.

It is a game, yeah. But they don't have to write themselves into a corner by introducing her dad as a killer. That'd be a dumb move.

I still don't see how it ruins her lore. The fact that she was promised vengeance doesn't mean vengeance was ever enacted. In fact, the fact that she's still motivated by her rage implies that it wasn't. And as long as she never sees him again, she's going to keep feeling that way and allowing it to motivate her killing.

I'm astounded lol. "The fact that she was promised vengeance doesn't mean vengeance was ever enacted" ...I mean, do I have to explain what a promise means to you? how about an oath?

She is motivated by her desire for vengeance. She made an oath with the Entity to become a Killer in its trials in exchange for a promise of "blood and vengeance". If her dad becomes a Killer, her vengeance will be denied, because she will be unable to hurt him unless they introduce a Killer Vs. Killer mode.

Here are some helpful defintions for you if you still don't see where the issue arrises:

Vengeance: punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong.

Promise: a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.

  • @Fibijean said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/828136#Comment_828136

Why, though? The thing that made her a killer was rage at her father and a desire for revenge. I don't see how making him also a killer would diminish that in any way from a lore perspective. It's not like they'll ever cross paths during a trial.

...really? She was promised revenge. That means she wants to hurt him. If he was a Killer, he would be empowered, and her vengeance would be denied. "It's not like they'll ever cross paths during a trial" which ruins her lore.... i mean, come on. Why set it up if it's going to be totally disregarded/dumped on? That's the definition of bad writing, set up demands payoff.

Also let's not forget, she's a yuri, isn't she? vengeful spirit. You can't really be a vengeful spirit anymore if your vengeance is denied: She would lose her identity and will to exist.

  • @Fibijean said:

I do have something further to add, actually, and that's just to point out that Rin's lore says nothing about her dad being "passed over". All it says is that the Entity made a pact with her as she lay dying. So it's not really fair to say that introducing her dad as a killer would contradict or conflict with Rin's lore in any way. No comment on whether it's a good idea to add him to the game, but lorewise, there's no reason why the Entity shouldn't have made a pact with him at the same time.

Other than the Entity promising her blood and revenge, and her making an oath, yeah, they'd have to undo the thing that made her a killer to include her dad in-game in a way where he is NOT a survivor.

  • @Tarvesh said:

I would LOVE IT if we got Rin's dad as a killer and got a survivor version of Rin as well.

Since the Entity pulls killers and survivors from different time periods, pulling Rin from before the murders would be possible. It'd be amazing to be Rin and going against Spirit. An awesome mirror match!

I'd rather cut up the abuser, tbh... also imagine Spirit chasing Rin lmao.

  • @Mikeadatrix said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/827951#Comment_827951

The Devs have said Killers are isolated from each other for... reasons. If Rin's dad was added, she wouldn't know. Let's say she did though and lost her drive to kill, the Entity would chuck her aside. Have you seen that new animation, the Hallowed Blight one that came with the Rift? I'll assume you have. Remember all those gray corpses? Those are the empty husks of both killer and survivor who have been bled dry by the Entity. You're looking at it likes it is a rational creature you can reason and bargain with. It is not. It wants food and it wants hunters. It doesn't care if the food gets sad, mad, or even happy. It doesn't care if the hunters don't like each other. If Rin were to stop killing for the Entity, it would be lack a need for her and it would not sweat to find a replacement, just as it has, thousands of times before. It's not a matter of if the Entity is BSing her, it is a matter of how long will she let it.

So by that logic, Rin will stop trying and they'll, what, delete her from the game? I don't think so. They can either take a dump on her established lore by adding her dad as a Killer, or, you know, do literally anything else

no, what i need is rins dad as a killer, i really wanted it to be him from that teaser over a year ago, it would be so badass running around with a giant katana

lol play Rin then if your criteria for badass is "giant katana" (It's not even that big)

  • @Mikeadatrix said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/103320/rins-dad-ill-be-mad

Bold of you to assume the Entity is honest.

Seriously though, why would a katana be missing if he is going to become a survivor? And if he becomes a survivor, who is gonna want a play a normal salaryman who snapped and cruelly murdered his family like it was nothing? His story probably starts after Rin's "death" and as he is trying to kill himself in a traditional method, the Entity grabs him as well.

Is it bold? If the Entity is just BSing her, the Spirit would cease to exist. Spirit is literally a creature of pure rage, doing what she does only for vengeance. If her vengeance was eternally denied, the very thing that fuels her would no more, and she'd stop doing the Entity's bidding. She'd have no reason to. It would completely ruin her purpose. Vengeance is all she is, she isn't chasing Survivors she has no beef with for fun: It's all to get at her father. But if he was promoted to be her equal, she'd have no chance. And that would be really bad writing. And before you say "well he'd like torture her" she's already been through the worst pain imaginable, so terrible it inspired a hatred that persisted through death.

Also like I said, the Entity passed him over for Rin. What do you mean the Entity grabbed him as well?

  • @I_Eat_Worms said:

What is a killer supposed to do if he checks on gens and finds nobody on them, then returns to the hook and the hook timer is about to expire and notices another survivor is coming for the save? Serious question, not from a killer perspective or survivor perspective, but from a strategic perspective.

For example; I admit that looping the killer around the Ironworks of Misery is a good strategy; he will either waste a lot of time trying to catch you or leave you alone so you can return to doing gens.

However I think you won't admit that there are some broken loops in this game, but I do.

From a Strategic perspective he should go after the Survivor that was just recently unhooked, as they're 1 hit downed. Even with Borrowed Time it's still worth it so they're forced to Mend. If they're downed, they should avoid them because they may have DS, and chase the farmer. Although tbh, and this is just my opinion, I wouldn't consider that tunneling. Tunneling is when you focus on a single survivor even when it's not strategic or advantageous in anyway: Just because they're a Dwight, or they teabagged, or they looped you forever and you need to soothe your wounded ego, etc...

And btw when I say "you" I'm not saying you specifically Xerge, just some hypothetical killer we all know exists, you know?

  • I would say the difference between looping and tunneling/camping is that looping does NOT stop the Killer from playing the game. They can still chase, eventually catch up, mindgame, or switch to another survivor. Meanwhile, a Survivor being tunneled/camped has no choice but to sit on hook doing literally nothing, or worse, get carpal tunnel syndrome on that stupid button mashing phase.

Also, what else are Survivors supposed to do, stand still and let the killer hit them? of course they're going to loop, that's not "abusive", come on...

The devs have shown clear bias and the only arguments I hear are the coin flip nonsense and constant bickering from those who fall for the standing still mind game all the time

Ok, calling the argument "nonsense" isn't exactly compelling. The argument against spirit makes a lot of sense, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't true.

  • Sounds to me like they're saying random stuff because they don't know ######### they're talking about, but they want to get you thinking.

"Rin_is_my_waifu" I don't think anyone can take anything you say seriously with that name. Also maybe if you explained 1000 times without convincing anyone, maybe your argument was flawed/you were WRONG? just a thought.

  • Wait, so your counter to people "complaining" as you put it is "raising your voice", caps lock, a threat to quit the game, and a demand to stop listening to complaints? Bruh what are you doing right now??

The arguments for Spirit fixes are sound, what you just said... sorry, complete opposite.

  • @Rex_Huin said:

They seem to usually avoid anything religious so not sure if we would see the nun?

Well we arguably have a Santa Claus outfit for Clown. Maybe they got away with it because people forget Santa Claus's origins are from a 3rd century monk St. Nicholas. Also Christmas is literally called "CHRISTmas", I always overlook that.

Then of course there is Adiris of Babylon, whose story somewhat mirrors the biblical story of the tower of Babel. As the story goes, humans in their pride built a great tower to reach into heaven, not for the sake of honoring God, but only as a testament to their own greatness. In response, God created language: Nobody could communicate with eachother, construction ceased, and the plan was thwarted. Adiris in our game is afflicted with the Plague rather than language, but she also worshipped in a tower (Temple of Purgation=Tower of Babel) and was self-absorbed (Her vanity, and belief she was destined for status, belief she would be protected from sickness= Pride)

Edit: Also, Father Campbell (The Crotus Penn asylum Priest) was murdered by the Nurse, and had his own Chapel just outside the Asylum that was recreated in the Entity's realm, so the Clown could park his caravan there.

"Really good" is a bit strong. And neither of them were good/decent because of the Nun.

Also did it even kill anyone on screen before the trainwreck that was The Nun? ?

Personally, seeing the Nun in Conjuring 2 was disturbing. Like, I honestly didn't like looking at it, it made me so uncomfortable. If the Nun was added to DBD, I think I could feel the same. I haven't seen the actual Nun movie, but I've heard that it was absolutely terrible...

  • Unless it was tied to something serious, I imagine this would be the lowest priority for them to fix, it's harmless and fun.

  • Your title is begging the question you know

"Why do survivors DC" would be an honest question, adding "out of rage" proves you already have your answer...

  • off-topic: Legion needs a new title... That, or a power that actually summons the other gang members to assist in some small way, even if it's only carrying survivors to the hook. They're not a gang right now.

  • @Neigeflocon said:

Of all people I've introduced to the game, I think all of them struggled with this issue. Pun intended.

It causes many premature deaths at the first second when someone starts literally mashing the button, not only that but since you have to essentially sweet spot the struggle phase, one missed beat is also your demise.

It should probably be changed somehow. Perhaps something like very easy skill checks to replace the mashing. Think the entire generator skill check bar but white and a little bit more larger. It could even have its own animations indicating the entity about to strike you as it approaches, the struggling done on its own with you having to only focus the skill checks occasionally.

In fact if this was ever implemented it could literally be possible to buff monstrous shrine with presenting harder skill checks in the struggle phase, making basements deadlier.

I would infinitely prefer consistent skillchecks on the hook over the current struggle phase: Skillchecks are actually sort of fun. For every failed skillcheck, you sacrifice faster. For every great, you restore some of the timer. I would like that.

  • @Yung_Slug said:

You don't need to mash it that fast. Sometimes that actually results in you dying because the game might not realize you're pressing the button very quickly and not just holding it down.

You could also try changing the struggle button to mouse wheel down. I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen a lot of people do it so it should be helpful.

I literally have it on Mouse Wheel down right now lol, good advice: it is better than space, but I still find it to be a terrible part of the game.

  • The "both" answer crops up a lot. Imagine a zombie who wasn't undead and didn't eat brains, would it still be a zombie? Imagine a vampire who walks around in day and doesn't drink blood: is that still a vampire? No. No to both.

The Hag is in that weird in-between too, she's called a Hag (Witch) but she looks like a Wendigo. She uses magic runes, but her lore describes her behaving as a Wendigo: She isn't either of those things, she's something new: Something... lame. They missed the mark on her and I find her unsatisfying, it's reassuring to know that others also feel she doesn't satisfy any specific horror fantasy trope, hopefully they do something to solidify her identity with Archives lore and new cosmetics.

  • @Science_Guy said:

I think you can safely call her a Wendigo. She checks all the right boxes in that department.

Witch is more difficult; she's referred to as one, yet imo, it's kind of shaky. She uses charms, curses, hexes, but 'Witch' can mean many different things. But I'll easily agree that the choice to blend them together wasn't executed all that well. Worse, it seems to limit the options for a more traditional Witch-based killer in the future.

That's very well said. It feels like in the future we'll run into problems of "well we already have a witch" or "we already have a wendigo", which would suck because Hag right now is both of those things watered down, not enough to satisfy either fantasy. So from that perspective, nobody is happy.

  • David's No Mither perks talks about how even though he knew it was a bad idea, he still assaulted that ref like an idiot. His WGLF perk states "Your few friends deserve the best protection". It's clear that David King would directly attack a Killer: He would not care (No Mither) if he was outmatched, he would still sacrifice himself to save a friend (WGLF)

So why is he forced to run away like a little b when Susie comes at him with a ruler!? They really ought to design fun new perks that allow Survivors to majorly set themselves back in exchange for protecting a friend. With how much fun Head On is, there's clearly a desire to fight back, and flashlights and pallets stuns do NOT count: How many fights have you gotten into where you dropped a pallet on someone or shined a flashlight in their eyes? That's not relatable, that's not satisfying, it's too gamey. Let us tackle the Killer, even if it downs/breaks us, to save an ally getting tunneled or carried to their final hook. I guarantee people would love that perk for the fun-factor alone, and if the setbacks were major enough, the Killer would enjoy it too because it would be like swapping survivors, or making an easy target for the rest of the match if it broke a tackler.

  • You are so biased and condescending, what makes you think anyone is going to take you seriously?

    What exactly is your complaint?

    You haven’t been clear.

I’m just presuming your complaining about the same thing everyone complains about in regard to windows/vaults: why a hit occurs through an open window. Let me say that one more time. Open. Window. A killers outstretched arm with a weapon probably gives them a reach of 3 to 4 feet.

Oh that makes more sense. Yes to be clear I am complaining about hits that I feel should not have landed through an open window.

You can say "3-4 feet reach" but that argument has no merit because the animations of their swings does not reflect that, leading to frustration over seemingly unfair hits, while at the same time exposing a vital area of the game that lacks polish.

If they really do have that reach, their animations need to be updated to reflect that. If they're not supposed to (which I believe is more likely, as the frequency of these complaints skyrocketed with dedicated servers being enabled) they need to be fixed.

I love it, it makes it a fun mindgame. I may be a minority here but I prefer NOT getting all my information for free and having to figure things out.

lmao that's not what "mindgame" means. I guess you enjoy guessing games, in which case go flip a coin and guess heads or tails all day lol, because that's basically what Survivors must do Vs. the Spirit.

Imo, have her put her hands on the window, and stick her head through and growl, then she suddenly blinks right through it. That would be just as cool as what we have now (She's an ethereal ghost, it preserves that) but it shows Survivors that she is indeed vaulting.

  • Or if for whatever reason it NEEDS to be mashed to trick people into thinking they're having a fun interactive game experience while they're stuck on a hook, can you make the mash requirements less frequent? Like instead of 100 times/second or you die, let me press it once per second?

  • Dwight: Bullied all his life. Upset with his circumstances. Failure at everything he attempted. Is called a nerd and a geek but isn't even smart. His coworkers lure him out to the woods, drug him, and abandon him (Seriously, that's just horrible)

Honorable mention to Jeff, because when he disappeared his neighbour stopped looking after his dog, and it became a stray (C'mon people, adopt older/senior dogs, it doesn't have to be a puppy especially if you can't stay home too often)

  • Yeah, I'd love to see what they can come up with to justify the Wraith, seeing as how literally not a single aspect of him makes sense right now.

Backstory: Nigerian immigrant who was hired to work in a scrapyard. Realizes he's working with shady people, but minds his business. Later discovers he's been used to murder people, and goes crazy and pulls his boss's head+spine out Mortal Kombat style and disappears.

In game:He has a scarecrow theme going on, but also mixed with... a tree? Lost his pants and now uses bandages to cover his legs. Despite apparently feeling guilty over hurting people unknowingly, he now chases and murders innocent survivors. Oh, and he has a magic bell that turns him invisible. Basically, he's the worst character ever. No motivation for anything he does or has.

Also, his addons. Do they realize that immigrants from Nigeria are not bushmen? His addons all talk about tribal symbols... He's a modern immigrant. Those cars are not that old.

  • " I LITERALLY CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THIS [BAD WORD] NERF. WHAT ABOUT MY FUN? THE MOST FUN BUILD TO PLAY IN THE GAME AND I CAN'T EVEN [BAD WORD] PLAY IT ANYMORE??? ALL BECAUSE A SURVIVOR CAN COUNTER ME NOW BY RUNNING AWAY FROM THE SLOWEST KILLER (With Add-ons) JUST BECAUSE I LOOKED AT THEM? "

Lmao are you serious right now? This is a tantrum. You're throwing a tantrum right now.

  • Where's the "I think it's a bad idea" option? "It's too strong" doesn't really capture my opinion. Your options are Good/Good/OP/Good.

Experienced survivors are easily able to hit difficult skillchecks, so this won't affect them even if everyone is fully injured. Removing the Great Zone is just plain not fun: Survivors don't have a lot to do, let's not remove the 1 thing they can strive for while holding M1.

Also, how does this combo with Unnerving Presence? How small can those skillchecks be? Have you considered how anti-fun this will be on Doctor with Unnerving, Lullaby, Ruin, and Madness?

Overall, bad idea. Much worse than the current ruin, both in terms of power and design. This is just my opinion hopefully it doesn't come off as too harsh sorry!!

Iirc killers are SUPPOSED to be able to shut it as survivors are in the escape animation. But that doesn't work...

What are you talking about, yes it does

  • They've drastically improved the game for me, keep them on, thanks.

  • @Rezblaze said:

Have you seen half these killers? They're twice his size!

That's not to mention that, no sane person in reality would throw themselves at someone with a lethal weapon.

When you're in a life threatening situation, believe me, its harder than it appears to 'just run up to someone and tackle them' if they have a weapon. You're essentially putting your life at risk just to one up the guy who has the advantage; most people will run away, even if they appear strong.

Surprising a killer into a stun is far different than bum-rushing them.

David would totally do that though, let's be honest. The quote for No MIther is telling a story of when he really shouldn't have assaulted that ref because he knew he'd regret it, but he did it anyway: couldn't be mithered with the consequences. He knows the Entity's games suck, he probably doesn't care if he gets killed, he just wants to fight with a Killer, especially if it saves his friend.

Honestly, they should rework No Mither completely. Some kind of aggressive dive at the Killer, and THEN you're permanently broken, with no additional benefits.

  • They look absolutely hilarious. Not sure if that's what they were going for, but there it is lol.

  • I have a problem with the fact that Legion isn't a legion: There's just one of them. Rework to make them an actual gang please?

  • That would be inconsistent with previously established rules of normal gameplay and plague's unique mechanics... contradicting what survivors have come to expect (You don't need to cleanse gens before working on them, why do you need to cleanse the hatch?) would be super confusing/annoying. I would oppose this suggestion for those reasons.

The hatch is used instantly, so there's no point in vomiting on it. Any survivor who interacts with it escapes the trial.

  • I wouldn't mind some band-aid buffs to Legion. Something to make him less terrible in the meantime, because he does need a total rework (How can he be called Legion when you only face one in a trial!? Where's the gang?)

    * Missed attacks in Feral Frenzy no longer put in on CD.

    * Survivors revealed by Killer Instinct will be outlined in orange when visible.

    * Basic attacks no longer drain the Feral Frenzy power.

    * Vault speeds in Feral Frenzy are slightly faster.

Any of all of those would be so nice. But I don't mind waiting for a full rework, assuming they make them an actual legion with the rework.

  • The Archives are all about fleshing out character's backstories to make them more interesting. Sexual orientations are just one facet of any character... If David is gay, that could explain why he's constantly getting into fights (overcompensating for his insecurity, worried someone with think he's not manly) or something like that. There's a lot of opportunity for quality storytelling.

  • For me, the best part of playing Legion is going on a stabbing spree with Feral Frenzy. It sucks when they know this is coming and sprint away, and you awkwardly chase them until Feral Frenzy runs out without tagging them.

I would like if they removed the Terror Radius and Red Glow from Feral Frenzy, and reworked it so Killer Instinct reveals in a radius = to the TR (even if it's currently silent).

I think this would reduce the likelihood of survivors knowing exactly how to split up to counter FF, while still preserving enough counterplay (They see Deep Wound being applied ofc, they know a spree is on) that they can react. Due to the long stun and loud shout as it ends, Legion can't sneak up on you after it expires.

Additionally, I'd also like to see the orange outline on survivors located by Killer Instinct, and remove the power drain on regular M1 hits. Why is that even a thing?

  • While I didn't have any terrible issues last time (apart from questionable hits through windows) I've got to say it's worse this time. I NEED to connect to a Server, I'll wait longer if I have to, if I can't connect it's an infinite load screen as Killer. Dedicated Servers are my only chance to play Killer, I really don't want to use Peer-to-Peer.

Edit: It's been getting better. The first test was still better, but I'd have no I think Dedicated Servers (based off my own experiences) are "good enough" right now to be released, so long as they make continual improvements to them in the future to address the issues some people claim they're running into.
