Surely that just further cements how suspicious it was how skilled this Dwight was then... something was definitely way off about the whole group, and just how exceptionally good they were, the Dwight in particular. In fact the one red rank survivor in the match was the first to die.

No... There's nothing a player can do to make themselves ranks 17-20, only the monthly rank reset can do that.

So this Dwight got reset... that's it.

  • If you weren't 'forced to play a game you didn't want to be in' then people would be leaving games constantly, and ruining everyone's fun.

Don't start a game if you're not willing to see it through.

    You don't find hag annoying?!

She is an instant F-tier on fun as survivor against her imo.

Everything else is pretty valid though.

Was about to say this. Hag is one of the most annoying to go against.

  • You can't depip to rank 19, as you can't lose pips past rank 16.

The reason such a good player was rank 19 is due to rank reset and only rank reset. Seeing as the last one seemingly reset peoples rank at random, you can't even claim they depiped to rank 16 and then got reset to 20.

I'm not generally one to care about ranking up, the last reset took me from 7 to 17 and I'm still only at 15.

  • How would he carry and hook survivors?

According to the devs, the system is supposed to have taken in measurements before it was activated. Where do you get "MMR starts at 0" from?

    It's individual for each killer.

If you play a killer you've never played before, or very little, or not for a long time (so that your experience with it falls outside of the window the data collection covers) it's going to be a 0.

If this becomes the norm the decrease in playerbase will be better evidence.

Why would that happen when normal matchmaking is just as bad if not worse?

How many times have you seen people say "omg matchmaking has been ######### they must be secretly testing MMR"?

The fact is they only test MMR when they say they test it. This nonsense argument of "it's bad matchmaking, it must be MMR" / "it's good matching making, there's no MMR" is what has established a ridiculous superstition around MMR that's not based on reason and is what's influencing peoples perception of it.

I guarantee your normal, non-MMR matches have always been a shitshow of terrible match ups, but you just put up with it, or write it off with some excuse, or blame it on secret MMR testing. Then you get a regular miss-match during the MMR test and explode with "WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP MMR SUCKS" even though realistically there's been very little change in the result. Otherwise we're not even playing the same game. Normal matchmaking in this game is #########, and unbearable for non-god-tier killers.

It's probably a self-fulfilling prophecy. People stop playing when they hear that MMR is turned on, and don't even both testing it out because they "know" it will be broken from their deeply held belief that it must be. This drives the number of active players down. Fewer active players constrains the match-making, so you get less than optimal match ups.

If people jus gave it a ######### chance we might actually get a working MMR system that fixes this broken mess of a game and actually gets people playing killer again.

As it currently is I ONLY want to play killer during an MMR test, all other times it's a massively painful process that only feels necessary due to Rift Challenges/Rituals and the fact that a BBQ killer gets way more BP than any survivor, win or lose.

  • @catbeans said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259045#Comment_2259045

It's not fixing anything. Both sides, killer and survivor have been dog ######### games. As killer it's a steamroll or nothing. As a survivor the people you are paired with are so vastly varied in skill and experience that it's actually ######### painful to sit through and play.

The number of one hook deaths experienced as both killer and survivor is more than I have experienced in my entirety of playing this game. It can't be more clear that this is absolutely broken so why are people defending it?

No. It's been working brilliantly, and my anecdotal evidence is just as good as yours.

What you've just described is every match outside of the MMR test for me.

It does not work fine, im not going by ranks in my games I'm going by the ability of the players in my games and how fun those games were to play. The answer to both is ######### abysmal. Que times were not even quicker they took just as long.

It's been working absolutely fine for me. Every match so far as been pretty fair and even, a good balance of skill between killer and survivor that has mostly resulted in 1-3K games. As killer, I haven't faced the clicky teabag deathsquad once.

The usual state of this game is what's ######### abysmal. Expert red rank SWFs every damn game making killer an exercise in masochism. It's no wonder nobody plays killer.

We need MMR to fix that.

Borrow time - 50/50 the killer can get you before you unhook a survivor

Kindred - Just shows the surviors and the killer if its close to you, that doesnt do anything to stop camping

Decisive Strike - Bruh thats to get off the killer, does nothing while on the hook

Deliverance - Good job you got yourself off the hook, now the killer can chase you and tunnel you, NICE

Camaraderie - if survivors dont go for the unhook its useless

You mean you actually have to try to play well to win in this game? jfc what a liberty!

  • One of them escaped, two others got decent scores. So what's the issue with matchmaking here exactly? seems to be working fine.

    "But the ranks"

MMR is being tested specifically because ranks don't accurately gauge skill.

You obviously don't play Myers much, you admitted in post game chat that you're just levelling him up and never going to play him again. You're a newbie Myers and apparently played as such, so it paired you with survivors of a comparable skill level, and it seems to have worked.

The alternative without MMR, you would have gone against an all red sweatfest, 0K, <15k BP. And if it was "broken MMR" like everyone likes to claim it would have been a 4K 32k BP in under 5 minutes.

This is MMR working as it should be, and apparently quite well. The only problem here is the survivors are dicks and apparently also don't understand that ranks don't match skill and are supposed to be ignored for MMR.

Yeah the amount of people I've seen complaining they're going to have eternal queue times and nothing but sweat squads and nurse and spirit...I guess 95% of the community is in the top 5% of players

You mean the tiny fraction of the playerbase who actually use the forums? The loud minority?

And even if it weren't, might I add, I'm not asking to be paired with literal new players. I'm just asking not to be paired with people who treat winning the game like it's their life's work.

I won't get that with MMR.

That's exactly what you get with MMR. Unless you're saying you treat winning the game like it's your life's work and don't want to face opponents of the same mindset.

I swear all of this MMR doomsaying is people who are under the delusion that they're a god-tier player just because they're a red rank, when the whole point is that rank isn't a measure of skill and you're actually not the god-tier player you think you are. If you were, you wouldn't have anything to worry about, you could handle anything.

I had a survivor match earlier, it was a rainbow of ranks, I was rank 15 (down from 7 in the last reset), and I had a rank 2 survivor, a rank 1 killer and two other green/purple survivors. Yet it was the fairest, most balanced game I've ever played. 12 hooks, 1K, and 1 got the hatch. Genuinely never had such a satisfying game, that didn't cause me to 100% sweat, or feel completely hopeless, or steamroll the killer.

You all keep regurgitating Tru3T4lent and ScottJund with their "you'll only ever face Stridor Spirit and 6000 hour Nurses" as if you are the 6000 hour expert streamer yourself. 95% of players are not those players. MMR will work brilliantly for 95% of players, as it has been for me.

  • Because I want a fair game where I DONT have to tryhard and sweat.

I'm a purple rank killer, I definitely shouldn't be, but it's way too easy to rank up, and even when I lose, I black pip.

I am constantly going against sweaty red rank survivors, who 360, crouch dodge, perfectly hug loops and dead hard the instant I swing, etc. and I'm on console, so I'm already at a disadvantage. That's via the current rank based matchmaking. It's an absolute mess and it makes playing killer incredibly frustrating.

So far, the MMR tests have been a massive improvement, putting me against survivors closer to my skill level, and the games have never felt fairer. There's still been some challenge, but it hasn't felt hopeless, or that I'm getting "bullied" as the killer.

Even better, each killer gets their own MMR rating, so if you drop your 1000 hour Spirit to play a Bubba for the first time, you'll start off against other newbies so you can get to grips with his power in a more relaxed setting.

This is a massive improvement all-round for killers, and will get more people playing killer which this game desperately needs.

  • As a killer, the current matchmaking system is an absolute shitshow. I'm in purple ranks, because it's far too easy to rank up, constantly being paired with sweaty red rank survivors. When I lose, I still black pip, so I can't get back down to where I should be.

The last MMR test and this one so far have both been a massive improvement, putting me against survivors of my skill level, and the games have never felt more fair. It's been less sweaty, less frustrating, and more fulfilling all-round.

So if this is what a 'perfect MMR system' looks like, yes please, anything would be an improvement over the current rank based matchmaking that is putting me off playing killer, and likely many others. Making killer a more enjoyable experience will get more people playing killer, and reduce queue times.

  • No one is going to bring all of the anti-totem perks, and even if they did, they wouldn't really benefit from it over having just one.

They're there for variety. So they can add as many as they like, providing no single one of them is completely unbalanced.

  • "Power role" is a term that long predates asymmetrical games like DBD, so this notion of "there's a numbers role and a power role" is something completely different.

"Power role" is the role that has the most control over the flow of the game.

With going against solos who aren't working together, that generally goes to the killer, as they can work to head off survivors, herd them into unsafe loops, set up a 3-gen, etc.

Against a 4-man SWF who are working efficiently, the survivors are the power role. The killer has limited choices, and they NEED to get their hooks and kills to turn the game back in their favour. SWF knows this, and can herd the killer through teamwork, baiting chases, wasting killers time while convenient gens are repaired, setting up for flashlight blinds, head-on stuns, etc. It's easier for a SWF team to predict the actions of one single killer, than it is for a killer to predict the actions of 4 separate people, and if you can predict your opponent better than they can predict you, you have the upper hand.

  • "Why is this allowed to go on?"

So after Spirit and Wraith we're cancelling Nurse now?

K, just want to stay up to date with the survivor mains agenda.

  • You're the one suggesting the conspiracy dude.

Bombardier do a lot of things, including snowmobiles and private jets, and financial services. Notice they've also partnered LaCapitale.

They probably just took out some kind of corporate loan and Bombardier just happens to be the bank that provided it.

  • It's the nature of an asymmetrical pvp game. One side feels outnumbered and ganged up on, the other side feels underpowered and cheated out of tools.

An individual survivor doesn't stand a chance against a killer, while four survivors against one killer can feel oppressive, if the player skill is lopsided. Both scenarios can occur in any given game, leading to a snowball effect one way or the other.

  • Here we go.

Spirit is not longer the OP killer. Now Wraith also "takes 0 skill".

  • People need to stop even considering actual, numerical buffs or nerfs to SWF/solo. They're not going to change your gen speeds, or movement speed, or perks or anything like that based on who you play with.

All of these "nerf SWF" and "buff solo" arguments just triggers the killer/survivor partisans.

What solo needs, isn't a tangible buff, it's needs quality of life improvements. Things like:

    1. Allowing survivors to view each others perks and items in the lobby.
    2. Pre-game survivor chat for console players.
    3. Giving preset, map-wide communication options like "killer is near" "coast is clear" "help!" "I'm good" give it a 30s or 60s cooldown, maybe a directional ping.

This provides solo players an information advantage that doesn't benefit SWFs in any way, bringing them closer to SWF level, closing the gap between SWF and solo.

Once SWF and solo are more comparable, you can then judge if survivors in general need a nerf, or killers need a buff, in response.

  • I can understand it for perks that apply when you HIT a survivor with your basic attack. But Downing a survivor, it should apply whether it's basic or not. Demo's own perk Surge literally stops you using his own power.

  • Spirit has a low skill floor, she's 'pick up and play'. Many new killers 'main' her first because it doesn't take too much to learn her. It's easy to recover when you mess up with her, and she's fast paced, in a game that's essentially a race against the clock being fast is much more forgiving, and fun.

  • The RNG from the zombies is really hard to judge.

On his own, he's definitely on the weaker side, which makes sense given he has two additional killers to back him up. But there's a risk that at high levels of play those zombies are going to be inconsequential because survivors can easily avoid them, kinda like how survivors can easily avoid PH's torment and therefore deny PH half of his powers.

Then again, those zombies have the ability to apply some very effective pressure on gens, on safe loops, etc. which could turn the tide of a game in an instant.

It all comes down to how half of his power is AI controlled. I can't help thinking that what he needs is a secondary power, maybe one that only activates in T3, that allows you some control over the zombies. Perhaps you hold the secondary power button to call zombies to you, so you can slowly herd them where you want them to go, to cut off survivors.

  • To be fair, I do think survivors on the hook should get some kind of 'distraction bonus' when other survivors complete gens.

Something like 500 BP whenever a generator is repaired while you are hooked.

That way you're not entirely cheated out of objective points if you spend the whole match engaging the killer in a chase.

  • @NoOneKnowsNova said:

If they explicitly keep on hitting the charm could it be a bannable offence...?

Probably not. Could always claim "I didn't even see the charm" which isn't unrealistic anyway, hence why I suggested teasing out a confession in chat.

  • If you're on PC, ask them why they camped you in chat.

People like that can't help themselves and will admit it in order to gloat. Then you can report them.

Hell you can do it on console via the system chat too, and report them to Sony/Microsoft.

  • Everything new and different looks bad at first.

I don't meet loads of good killers, at least not many who adjust the pressure level if the team is doing poorly. I have, however, encountered a lot of killers who are good enough to give the last survivor the escape.

It's easy to go into every game in high gear because you never know if you'll be going against a highly skilled SWF who will require all the pressure you can put on them. But it takes a good killer to A. accurately gauge the capabilities of the survivors they're going against, and B. know when they have room to ease off without throwing the game entirely. Sometime it takes the whole game to do that, so giving the final survivor the escape is the fairest and most realistic gesture when you've completely demolished them.

  • Mooks is right, I'm not lashing out at you or the TC specifically. There's been a lot of "concern" over a charm the past two days...

I can understand the concern about the "auto ban" feature they mentioned, but the charm changes nothing. There was always the possibility of racism if you're playing Claudette/Adam/Tapp/Elodie, or even Feng/Jake/Yui/Yun-Jin/Jane/Zarina. This is no different, but a lot of people seem to think it's a special case and that LGBTQ+ players are a particular threat to their ability to play this game.

If they wanted to, they could also just all play Claudette, Adam, Tapp and Elodie and Play the racist card. I don’t get how the charm is problematic. There is enough pointless LGBTQ+ discussions currently here in the forums.

you can for example determine it by the end game chat. People that target others because of stuff like that want those people to know it - otherwise there isn’t even a reason to targeting in the first place. Or if it can be proven over MULTIPLE games with video evidence that the killer only ever targets people with the charm. Or people of color. Or people with specific references in their usernames.

Yes but what if this new minority inclusion negatively affects me in some way? What if an unusual and unlikely hypothetical scenario my imagination dreamed up actually turns out to be the unfounded nightmare I've imagined? What if I get validation for my discomfort around LGBTQ+ issues?

So what was that 10 minute chase that allowed the other survivors to complete the objective? Is that not the game too?

Do you just want to hide in a bush until the exit opens and claim you won by playing stealthy?

It doesn't matter if I loop the killer for 5 gens, I will still de-pip. Killers don't have someone constantly holding them back from playing the game and almost always will safety pip every game even if all 4 survivors escape. There's a difference.

And I do agree on gen speeds being wack. I hate playing killer because of it.

You loop the killer for 5 gens and you will definitely safety pip.

You're looping the killer for 5 gens and you're thinking... the killer is... stopping you from playing the game?

So you think this is a hold R1/M1 simulator?

No offense but an 18 minute match is hardly a "win by default" to me. Call me back when you get a match where the killer gets a 4K in less than five. :)

I mean, I managed a 4k in about 2 minutes before, but that was entirely down to the survivors failing, and nothing to do with my skill as a killer.

Having learned since then, a good killer would give survivors a chance to unhook if they were going down that quickly.

  • @gatsby said:

the killer won simply because of the early kill. nothing else. the outcome of the match became pre-determined. thus the killer won by default

    ...no.

I've escaped from matches where a survivor has DC'd early in the game.

I've also managed to 4k matches where 3 gens have popped in 2 minutes.

The only time it's 'winning by default' would be remaining survivors escaping through a hatch, or a proxy camping Nurse with Devour, Starstruck and NOED, who sits on a hill with a permanently charged blink, right next to two hooked survivors and a Hex.

  • So... the killer "won by default" by... winning the game?

Sony have a no tolerance policy for racism, sexism and homophobia, so it was likely an automatic ban once the report was submitted.

You should be able to appeal it though.

I think the Pride stuff is pretty good tbh. There's the charity stream, and support of LGBT+ streamers and content creators. They've gone about this the right way by actually supporting the LGBT+ community, rather than cashing in on content just to promote the game itself. It feels more authentic, and less corporate.

You cant hold W against a killer you cant see coming and last time I checked, the W key doesn't prevent the Reverse-Bear-Trap from exploding.

Oh, and the charge attack is faster than sprint burst.

Let's also ignore Wraith's 150% movement speed, Billy's 230% speed power, Nurse and Blight in their entirety, Freddy and Demo's teleport powers, Deathslinger's ability to reel you in, Clown's slowing ability that also reduces vault speed, Oni's 195% speed power, Huntress' bus sized ability to gain a ranged hit from across the map.

Plague just needs to infect you at any amount and then she can move onto a new target if you're truly too far away

You also have Trapper and Hag which are supposed to be area control, as well as Doctor but his is done differently and is high range. The spider doesn't need to leave its web.

If you want i'll even throw in Victor's 150% move speed.

That leaves Michael, Ghostface, and Bubba. They one-shot, so you have one chance to live, and two of them have Undetectable.

You can call Legion and Trickster weak if you want to, but Pyramid Head is all you.

If you think "spider doesn't need to leave it's web" is an analogy that applies to Trapper or Doctor, then you have never played either of them.

  • I'm not sure but we definitely needed another topic about this.

  • His ranged attack cannot injure a healthy survivor. You can only be injured by the tentacle if you're contaminated. So it is essentially a third health state unless he's close enough for a punch.

  • Nothing makes me actually cringe more than people who type "cringe" in response to other people doing something they enjoy.

  • I had that as Doctor on Rotten Fields not too long ago.

Survivors would all be working together, and as soon as my TR touched them, they'd scatter in all directions. If I committed to one of them, I could maybe get one hit on them after a 60s chase, at which point they get another sprint burst and repeat, while one or even 2 gens popped. There was no chance.

"Just use my power?" Yeah, I could, I even managed to T3 a lot of them. So I pretty much always knew where most of them were at any given time, but there was no way I was catching up with any of them long enough to get a hook without also giving away 2 gens at the same time.

There's nothing that can be done about it of course. It's entirely valid play. Survivors are allowed to run away if they get scared, that's the game. But in this case, you know it's because they're a red rank SWF who have the game mechanics all worked out and know they have an unstoppable strategy.

    It's tunnelling for survivors, basically.

  • The only problem for having 3 or 4 zombies, is the possibility of all of them congregating, and trapping survivors.

2 makes this relatively unlikely, and any point where just one zombie could trap you is ultimately your own fault. But if you have 2 or 3 zombies on a loop, or jungle gym, you could be downed through no fault of your own.

  • @Junylar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2221616#Comment_2221616

The same argument goes for zombies. If the number of zombies depends on the size of the map, while the total number of gens stays the same, large maps will be disastrous for survivors, since most of the area would be empty of gens but full of zombies. Survivors will have to spend tons of time to find ANY gen, while still being in danger of zombies.

Large maps are already disastrous for low-mobility killers, of which Nemesis is one.

I dread getting Mothers Dwelling as Doctor. Survivors can just start running as soon as they hear your terror radius and you never catch anyone.

  • @miketheratguy said:

I'd like to say that whatever system they come out with next probably can't be any worse, but then I didn't play the MMR test which, to my recollection, a LOT of people didn't like. Their complaints didn't sound any different though: Matched against people of seemingly random or way too different skill.

All most players want is to play with people who are roughly equivalent, I'm sure that the developers could figure out an algorithm that knows what stats determine such things. Hope so, at least.

There was a massive bonus for less-experienced killers in MMR, in that you have a unique rank with each killer. So even if you've been catapulted to purple ranks playing Spirit, you can move over to like Trapper and you won't be automatically paired with red ranks, it will think you're a 'new Trapper' and pair you with lower 'ranks'.

I think MMR will be great for non-expert killers, and will in turn lead to more people playing killer.

  • I think it's pretty obvious it's only if they admit it in chat.

There's no way they're going to act on a "I got tunnelled for wearing a charm" report unless there's some evidence for it.

1 … 145 146 147 148 149 … 171
