What's the controversy over stretched resolution? Can someone explain what he's referring to?
-
All three things you have described in the original post would be great to have. The onboarding situation in this game is one of the most mismanaged things I have ever seen in a modern video game, and it would benefit greatly from more robust and player-friendly tutorials. The option to free-roam maps as a solo player would be AMAZING; I wish you could just start a custom game with only one player in the lobby, and do exactly this.

Would an electric PC duster be better than compressed air? Since it can be reused again? Also, I'll open it up later, definitely.
No clue, I've always used compressed air. I also have a bunch of case fans with filters on them, which helps. Summer is also the most annoying time of year for PC heating woes!
-
Have you dusted out your PC lately? Over time, that can lead to the sort of otherwise inexplicable heating/resource chugging that you are describing.
-
It's not the cool streamer kid Unbreakable/Decisive/Dead Hard/Adrenaline meta, but it sure performs for me consistently, up to red ranks. You all need to get on board with the AGGRESSIVE STEALTH meta. :D

No, its well within the confines of the rules of the game and has completely different requirements. You A) must be hooked. B) you must get through 1st phase without being saved. C) it awards the killer sacrifice points, which DCs do not. They are not the same. Which is why DCs come with penalties and hook suicides are completely justified.
If you're suiciding on hook, none of that matters to you. You don't care that it's giving the killer points, and you can speed through the escape phase, get to the struggle phase, and die very quickly.
It is a loophole.

Sorry to break it to you, but Blendettes are the scum of the earth (from Survivor and Killer POV). I've had too many instances of Blendettes doing absolutely jack ######### all game and letting their teammates die. I do not tolerate their existence and I take every opportunity I have to make their lives miserable.
Those are just bad players, though. They were probably gonna be bad no matter what survivor or what build they picked. It's a bad stereotype to apply to Claudette players.
I have always mained Claudette, and I am what you would label a Blendette, in that I wear the outfit I described, and I try to avoid the killer as much as is reasonably possible. I also stick to generators like glue -- even if it means going literally behind the killer's back as he moves somewhere else -- and I don't leave my teammate to hang. You can find a lot of success with this type of "aggressive stealth" as I call it (it consistently gets me to red ranks as a solo player) and play very efficiently instead of just hiding behind a rock and Self-Caring or whatever.
Not all "Blendettes" are potatoes.
-
A fifth perk for each survivor would add four perks to every match. It would be super OP.
I often find myself thinking "if I could JUST ADD A FIFTH PERK to this build, it would be perfect," which is probably exactly the right kind of trade-off I should be feeling like I have to make.

Fair enough. They're both green pieces though, and they are 250 Auric cells each (which is $5.00 total for the Blackberry Skirt and your choice of jacket). I think the P3 head would combo well with it.

Hook suicide is not against the rules. Disconnecting is. I'm pretty confident you already know this. ;)
This is the entire point I am trying to make in this thread. It's a penalty-free way of getting the same result.
-
And, if you are just looking for a good survivor to start with, David King has We're Gonna Live Forever (which helps you grind Bloodpoints faster) and Adam Francis has Deliverance (which gets you a free self-unhook as long as you aren't the first one caught and manage to unhook someone else).
I think the best survivors for new players to start out with are Dwight (to unlock Bond as a teachable perk) and Feng Min (because all three of her perks are exceptionally helpful when you are just learning the game).
-
I'm not sure if you mean Adam Francis or David King, but the answer in any case is: Ultimately, all survivors have exactly the same capabilities and options. You just have to unlock perks for the individual survivor you want to use.
The general rule of thumb, in terms of individual survivors, is that the male survivors are larger and quieter (with some exceptions cough JEFF), and the female survivors are smaller and louder. The best thing to do is just pick someone you like, and build them up. I use Claudette cuz I'm a red rank ninja, and Kate because she is naturally the quietest of all female survivors when injured.
-
Yeah, these players are just being sore winners. Best to ignore them and move on.

Most people don't hook suicide without a reason. Without knowing anything else about the match, how could I possibly tell you what their motivation is? Maybe they were blatantly AFK and didn't struggle, if two people managed to get hooked that quickly. I suspect if two active people are already hooked within 2 minutes of the game and zero gens are done, they probably aren't enjoying themselves at all and putting the probability of escaping very low. Especially if that circumstance came about because the Killer is camping and the second survivor went in for an ill-advised and unsafe off-hook without a perk to support it. One player gets tunneled. The other gets hook traded. How is that fun/fair for the original hooked survivor? Its not. They have every right to leave a match with an ######### Killer and survivor. Again, its well within their right to return to the camp fire for a match that is more enjoyable. Its completely within the rules of the game. Just like ######### camping/tunneling. Buck up, buttercup.
Why would they hook suicide instead of disconnecting?
-
I would think that Hellraiser has got to be a license that they want to pursue, it would make so much sense for this game. And obviously, yeah, there's gonna be a lot of interest in it outside of the game, so it would be a good one to go after.
-
Blackberry Skirt + either Glorious Violet Jacket or Wild Violet Jacket is a way better Blendette outfit.
-
It means they probably won't hook farm you.
Also, it's a tag that is awarded to certain helpful community members. Unless they criticize the game too much. ๐คฃ

This is what Iโve always said: the devs implement challenges that are detrimental to core gameplay.
How hard is it to make more of difficult, but skill based challenges? The one for Huntress with hitting 2 hatchets from 15+ meters away is a good, simple example.
Right! And for survivors, even stuff like (and I'm just making this up, I'm sure it's close enough to a real challenge) "safely unhook 3 survivors in a single match." I'm gonna BEELINE to downed/hooked survivors. I'm prioritizing this over things like objectives, but I am also taking actions that are directly benefiting the game and the other players.
-
Ace Attorney.
Phoenix Wright (or Miles Edgeworth) and the Blue Badger!
-
I wish Behaviour would stop introducing challenges that encourage counterintuitive play. My advice to them is: For any challenge you introduce, assume players will focus on that challenge above all else, to the detriment of all other game mechanics and objectives. Now, knowing that, what is the absolute worst situation that can arise from it?
If the answer is anything resembling the angst that this challenge is causing, you probably need to rethink the challenge.

Deathbound isn't even comparable to A Nurse's Calling. One tells you where the survivors were when they fully healed, the other shows survivors healing. Big difference.
What's effectively being asked is "Do you think Doc will suffer because a bunch of survivors will start running Calm Spirit to counter Deathbound?" To which I say no, I doubt Calm Spirit will become a widespread thing, even if Deathbound does.

Except infectious fright isnt always useful and only good on certain killers and only works in the killers TR. Deathbound works pretty much anywhere outside the killers TR. Especially on Killers that run NC already.
Do you think a bunch of strong killers are gonna stop running Discordance and STBFL for Deathbound? I agree that it DOES sound like a pretty strong combo with Nurse's Calling, but I also get the sense that survivors can plan to get chased and effectively learn t play around it.
-
I don't think Calm Spirit is gonna become meta. It wasn't a thing after Infectious Fright, and it won't be a thing now.

Nah fam. One side is playing as cheap as possible and ignoring 3/4 of their objectives. When Killers actually play to all of their objectives, this game is fun for both sides and people don't hook suicide nearly as often. And Killers can completely stop survivors from being able to do several of their objectives: unhook, heal, etc. A survivors main objective is to escape or die. When escaping is a clear improbability, they are doing what they're supposed to do by dying. :) There's no rule stating a survivor owes a Killer or their teammates multiple hooks. If their likelihood of escape is nil, they are well within their rights to die to the entity and return to the camp fire. ๐๏ธ The less Killers and survivors play like #########, the less likely people are to suicide.
How do you square what you just described with two players suiciding on hook within the first two minutes of the game, before there's even time to get anything done?
-
This thread got dumb. Here are the issues. You can argue these issues, but these are all waaaaah-take-my-ball-and-go-home arguments because I DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITH THE SCARY MECHANIC WAAAAH THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW SOME ARBITRARY RULES AND NOW I AM MAD.
- Hook suiciding -- especially at the beginning of the match -- is a penalty-free way of disconnecting. While the struggle mechanic continues to exist in this manner, these players should be penalized for doing this, because it serves the same purpose.
- By doing this, you are choosing not to play, even though you willfully queued up with full knowledge of the game mechanics that possibly awaited you at the other end of the loading screen. If you're going to play Dead by Daylight, then PLAY DEAD BY DAYLIGHT. Otherwise just don't queue up for a match?
- The struggle mechanic really should be reworked to prevent players from taking a suicide option, because it is never used for anything other than a) griefing the rest of the team and b) giving someone a cheap hatch escape.
- The "team" aspect of Dead by Daylight is tenuous, since (barring extraordinary SWF coordination) it is a "team" of four players who are working toward a common goal, but are incentivized to prioritize their own safety and victory, and they do not always win or lose together. Therefore, there should not be a mechanic present that allows them to weaponize this mercurial attitude to grief other players penalty-free.
- Behaviour (hey @Peanits why does no one respond to these kinds of threads) is POSITIVELY INSANE and super tone-deaf for introducing an even worse hook mechanic with the Silent Hill killer, requiring skill checks to not die. This is the exact opposite of what they should be doing, because it is going to lead to more angst for all of the above-stated reasons. It's like they're actively greenlighting this kind of griefing.
-
This is only a problem for people whose fashion sense is bad enough to wear those together! ๐

Underrated Survivor Perks:
Kindred - Most people don't use this to its full potential. But it's low-key the best perk in the game. Unless you're playing SWF on comms, there's no reason NOT to run this.
Spine Chill - Yes, you can become too reliant on this perk. But that heads up and the counter to stealth killers is all the advance warning you'll ever need.
Fixated - Faster walking speed can make it much harder for the killer to find you when you stop running. Plus you know when your scratchmarks lead the killer your way
Detective's Hunch - This makes Deja Vu useless. You see ALL the generators, so you can know if you're three-gening yourself. Hex totem? You can find it with this! NoED? You guessed it! Need a med-kit? You can use this to find a treasure chest. This perk is basically Deja Vu on steroids.
Breakout - That extra wiggle speed can mean someone doesn't go into the basement. Pair it with Empathy
Empathy - If you aren't running Kindred, this one's a good one to run. As soon as your teammate gets injured, you'll know approximately where the killer is.
Quick and Quiet - Silent fast vault is underrated, and you can use this to time how much time has passed in a chase. Paired with Lithe and Dance with me, and it can be crazy.
Underrated Killer Perks:
Surveillance - In a 3 gen situation, this gets crazy value. Obvioulsy it's great paired with Ruin, but even without Ruin if you're going to kick Gens, take this perk.
Whispers - A lot of people love this perk, but it's so useful that it might be one of the best Killer perks period. It lets you know where to start looking for survivors, and it lets you know when a survivor has lost you.
Franklin's Demise - Survivors will waste time going back to get their dropped item. Sometimes mid-chase if they're particularly greedy. The best part about this perk is, you'll know if it'll get much value before you enter the match. See a team with no items? Don't bring this perk, obviously. See one flashlight? Probably not. See 4 toolboxes? BRING IT. Plus it counters Sabo with toolboxes.
Agitation - Nearly ensures you get to a hook. But not just that, it saves you time too.
I like how you start this off with THE TWO BEST PERKS IN THE GAME (although you forgot Bond, which is the other best perk!).

Then survivors will just afk when they don't want to play out the match just like how killers afk if they give up.
You can't stop people from refusing to play out a match.
You can penalize them and hand out bans for reusing to play the game that they decided to play.

I like how when Killers want to employ unsavory game play that is within the confines of the rules of this game to get survivors out of the match as quickly as possible it is A-Ok - totally "strategy". When survivors employ unsavory game play that is within the confines of the rules of this game to get themselves out of the match as quickly as possible this is unfair and game breaking. ๐ Gimme a break.
One side is playing the game, they are engaging with the game mechanics that are presented in order to fulfill their objectives. The other side is using a loophole to disconnect and not play the game.
-
I posted about this in another thread, but man, Myers is really overrated. First match I saw with him was on Haddonfield, and he only got a 3K because the survivors were all potatoes. They were:
- A girl who got stuck trying to vault through a window.
- A guy who kept making constant loud noise pings.
- A girl who blew a gen and then just stood there taunting him while he got full tier 3 from her.
- Really lucky Laurie player who managed to Decisive Strike him from an attempted locker grab, then escaped and got her adept achievement, and never shut up about it for 40 years.
-
Working from home WAS an underrated perk, but now that everybody is starting to understand how to take advantage of it, it's looking pretty OP.

What if my finger accidendently slips from the struggle button and I get sacrificed while trying to kobe beforehand, should I be banned due to a poor gameplay mechanic who asks you to smack your keyboard to death to remain in this exhausting and horrible trial where everyone is on last hook and 4 gens need to be done ?
I really want to know, might not be banned because people can be clumsy sometimes.
This is why they need to redesign the struggle mechanic so that you don't have the option of giving up.

Opting out only for specific consoles won't be possible, I'm ready to bet real money on that.
The difficulties and technical costrains that would derive from that option are NOT solvable without creating massive inconsistencies.
Picture this:
You are a PS4 player, and you want to play only with PS4 and XBOX players for whatever reason
I am also a PS4 player, but I'm fine with playing with everyone because I want to have shorter queue times
Jake is a PS4 player that wants to play only with PS4 players
Since we are all on PS4, we get matched all in the same lobby, but we are missing 2 other players to start the match, and those players could only be from PS4, since Jake doesn't want to play with anyone else.
Result: Jake (who is fine with longer queue time) gets what he wants, me and you have to wait more to start a match because of him.
Inb4: ceating different pools of players for each combination of the matchmaking would split even more the playerbase, creating longer queue times for everyone.
It is easier (for the devs) and better (for the community) to have only a YES/NO option for crossplay altogether, like what we have now for Steam / Windows store
People who want this level of granularity seem to think there's some kind of magic bullet solution that will make all these different fantasyland queues OK for everyone. If it were that easy, we wouldn't be talking about this in the first place.

There is nothing wrong with BBQ, it motivates the killer to not camp, and pop is pretty much required on 80% of the killer cast. Everyone running these perks indicates a problem with the grind of this game as well as gen speed, not the perks themselves.
I am the literal last person on this forum who needs to be educated about the grind, believe me. ๐
Saying a perk is pretty much required on 80% of the killer cast supports my point, which I suppose I should broaden to say "this indicates a bigger problem with the game than just a single killer, be it the perk itself or some other game mechanic."

It is also a mechanic for attempting to unhook yourself. Have you agreed to it?
I'm talking about the "choosing to not struggle on the hook" bit. I mean, I think the whole struggle mechanic needs to be redesigned so as not to give the player any agency in dying or not, but until then, it's incumbent on the player to not be a jerk.
-
@SpoopyGirl This is a hilarious response to those kinds of stupid messages.
-
I would also advise your friend not to play on Wi-Fi. You should always game on a hardwired connection, if possible. It's a night-and-day difference. Pick up some reasonably priced powerline adapters if your console or PC isn't near your router.
-
I'd think you would have to purchase the individual DLC chapters on a per-platform basis, but once you owned them, your account progress with content from those chapters (survivors, killers, etc.) would remain intact. This would be the sensible way of doing it.
I guess we'll find out!
-
Your friend should figure out his Internet so he isn't screwing the game up for everybody. The disconnect penalty is working as intended.
Also, same for you disconnecting in your killer matches. I know matchmaking sucks, and we all hate it and will continue to complain about it on this forum, but your solution is not going to help anyone.

A company shouldn't punish for someone refusing to play in an unfun unfair and unwinnable match.
When you decide to queue up for a match, you are agreeing to the terms of it, which is any combination of the mechanics that are available to players. There are sometimes going to be mechanics in play that you don't like. This is part of the game that you have decided you want to play. You know this going in. If you decide you don't want to play it, then close the client and don't play, instead of queuing up and then leaving everyone else in a 3v1.
The match that prompted me to make this thread was entirely benign, too. Legion caught a guy immediately, someone else got downed trying to save him, and they both suicided at the same time. It's so dumb.

Some people would prefer long queues to what they perceive as unfair matches. Personally, I'm not convinced that the game is so much easier on PC that console players would be at a dramatic disadvantage, but I think that's the idea behind it for those who do want to opt out.
Agreed, it's not as dramatic as a lot of players are implying.

If killr is camping one survivor then jump on gens and make them pay for that by escaping. Also if a survivor is struggling with a camper killer, make their sacrifice count by finishing gens and showing the killr it's not a winning strategy. If you suicide, you reward the killer. Its a 4v1. It's a we vs me mentality. Sometimes you benefit from this selflessness, sometimes your the dude on the hook.
This argues my point (and @Huff's earlier point) really well. Because DBD's survivors are sort of a "tenuous team" at best, the guy who suicides on the hook is acting selfishly, because they have no obligation to their team and no reason to care what their forced hook death does to the match. Which is why it's stupid to give them that option in any way, without penalty.

Well, I couldn't tell you, I don't actually remember which word was used. The only thing I do know is it will be optional.
I don't know where/if they have specified anything in detail about the forthcoming cross-play, but the Steam/Windows Store option is opt-out, which means everyone has it enabled by default, unless they take steps to disable the option. For cross-play to have any sort of meaningful impact, it would have to be opt-out.
I don't understand the people who are wanting to opt out of this, though. The majority of the other players on your platform will not pay close attention, and just be happy for the better matchmaking and queues. If you opt out of it on, say, Xbox, you would be stuck queuing only with other Xbox players who have opted out. This would make your queues take forever. Why would you want this?
-
@Fibijean said:
Yes, I've heard it will be an opt-in feature. I'm not sure if you'll be able to disable crossplay with specific platforms, though, or just in general. The latter seems more likely.
Opt-out feature. Very different.
