I thought I would write this after reading the threads about Tru's video and the one on Lightborn. To understate it, there appears to be a lot of differing opinions on the subject
In my opinion, a lot of the debate comes from differing opinions of 'win' and 'fun'. For me, I win if I have fun; that doesn't necessarily mean kills. A fun game where I get 6 to 8 hooks but zero kills but done in a fun, cool to play against the survivors game is a win to me. Against a bully squad whose only purpose is to annoy me a 4K or 3K with one hatch escape isn't a 'win' because, yeah, I killed the survivors but the game wasn't fun.
For me, a close match where the survivors escape and then tell me my character was terrifying is more fun than when survivors mess around with me just to try to ruin my game and I end up killing all four of them because they eventually will make a mistake and also stick around too long. In one there was player enjoyment and, in the other, there was just antagonistic sweaty tension.
How about you? How does the concept of enjoyment relate to your win condition?
I agree, fun should be the end-goal, there are many times where you "win" but you are not satisfied, or if you "lose", but had an amazing game; I always played for the fun, being that helping the team, having fun chases, doing something unique and even meme from time to time.
That also helps with frustration: if you give yourself a goal that's too high, you end up frustrated when you don't achieve it, especially if it happens multiple times, the good thing about Dbd is that you can give yourself whatever goal you want, being the 4 BBQ stacks, a certain amount of hooks, even the simple improving with a killer or as survivor can be a good achievement.

Let's keep the discussion civil and respectful, thank you.

Some Devs do read the forums, but keep in mind they do it in their free time, as this is not their job, they have their role and the feedback is gathered by the community team, being us the main interaction between the team and the playerbase.
Also as someone mentioned already, this is not the only place where we get feedback, there's multiple outlets for that.
And just to be pedantic, you do have a Dev that interacts here constantly, which is Mandy.

If seeing a player's ping is helpful to decide whether or not I want to play a match or how to play a match shouldn't we be able to see who's in a swf with who?
I don't think seeing who is in a SWF or not is comparable to see if the game is playable or not, a high ping opponent is not great to verse for either side, especially in a game like DBD with so many interactions based on ping and latency.
-
As @ChurchofPig mentioned, you will need a BHVR account, then you can link Epic and Steam to it and as long as the accounts are linked, you will keep the characters, otherwise you would need to re-purchase them on Steam.
You can find more information here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/305-f-a-q-cross-progression

I am of the opinion that all names should be hidden, at least in the lobby, while shown in the score screen.
There's always a chance that people take it personally and start attacking a specific player, Survivor or Killer, however I would like to see the players' ping in the lobby, that's something that could be pretty helpful.

for sure.
I also love the souls games.
Thanks for the clarification. unfortunately, I'm on a ps3 on death's door. I guess I could play the original Demons Souls, but the console really is barely holding on.
I may well end up getting sekiro at some point. I'm not sure, I expect that shifting from playing ds2 on controller to another souls game on M & K would be really jarring.
(to clarify, I was just saying that the discussion title was partially meant as a joke)
Demon's Souls is great too!
You can still play on PC with a controller, there are softwares to connect your PS3 controller to PC and make it work.

If you'd want to talk about weird illogical land marks then look at DS3's cathedral of the deep which ACTIVELY RUNS AWAY FROM YOU!
No seriously every single time you see it from a distance its position changes meaning you're literally chasing down a giant cathedral that's running away.
Yeah, that's true, I remember watching a video about it, don't remember if it was Illusory Wall or someone else.

yeah. It's too bad it had a flawed development. really, the title was a bit of an exaggeration, I was just trying to say that I think it could have been the best. Obviously, it isn't *cough, Shrine of Amara, cough*, but I feel it could have been.
I'll definitely give the others a try. They're available on PC, right? or, was bloodborne a ps4 exclusive?
I know your title was meant to be that, I just like discussing about this, I love those games.
Bloodborne is PS exclusive, you can play DS1 and DS3 on PC and Sekiro too, if that interests you, even if it can be very different; I'd also suggest Nioh and Nioh 2, or just Nioh 2 if you have to choose one, they are not really Soulslike games, but they have similarities and, in my opinion, one of the best combat system in the genre.

I think that overall, it's worse than the sum of its parts.
I do agree the world doesn't feel all that interconnected, and some corners were clearly cut. (reused Ornstein and the earthen peak elevator up to iron keep, for example.)
My opinion is that, if not for a troubled development, it would have been fantastic.
thus the "almost".
also, I actually haven't played bloodborne. (I've actually only played ds2, so this opinion is heavily based on reading about the other games and seeing gameplay)
I feel like they managed to create a great variety of builds, environments, armor sets and enemies, the big issue is that most of that feels out of place: the example I always bring up, and that you mentioned as well, is the infamous Earthen Peak, with an elevator on top of a tower that leads to a volcano.
But yeah, most of it was due to the troubled development, Miyazaki not being involved for most of it didn't help either, and their overall idea was probably a bit too ambitious for the technology, time and funds they had.
If you get the chance to play the other games, Bloodborne included, they are definitely worth it.
-
Regarding the pvp, maybe, however, in my opinion, design-wise it's worse than the other Soulsborne.
Of course a big part of it has to do with the troubled development it went through:
https://youtu.be/5g5EK4x20DsThat said, the level design feels inferior to DS1's interconnected world, the lore is also pretty messy, with contradictions with the first game (for example the Dragons possessing souls or Giants being different race from DS1's Giants and so on).
The massive amount of bosses also doesn't help the cause, since most of them are forgettable and barely interesting (I'm talking to you Prowling Magus and Congregation) and they used a quantity over quality amount of enemies to create a sense of difficulty that DS1 had with smart enemy placement.
Also can't be the best when Bloodborne exists.

Closing this here since OP is just insulting and attacking everyone who shares a different opinion.

Happy times to you too!

It's one unlock per match, if you have the sparkles around your screen you get the cosmetic. Are you sure you didn't get anything?
Keep in mind the unlock pops up in the tally screen and you might have skipped it.
This is the list of the items you can get:

Thank you for taking the time to explain some things.
I know it is a continuous fight and I honestly did not know that is how hackers worked.
It saddens me that these people have to ruin the fun for many, and that even after reports were made they have the audacity to go in the comments only two days ago and gloat about how much “fun” they are having cheating.
It's sad, it's the curse of multiplayer games, sadly, some people enjoy ruining other people's games, pretty much that.

I didn't mean it as an interrogation of you personally. It's more of an open-ended question kind of deal. And even more than that, an expression of my own frustrations with the cheater problem.
I just wish the DC penalty was disabled (or at least, more relaxed in some way, to reduce the impact on normal matches) or the game had a proper end condition outside of "all survivors have died/escaped" that can't be abused by cheaters to hold people hostage. At least, until the problem gets more permanent solutions.
The systems we have in place essentially lock normal players in a room with rabid dogs, then asks them to record themselves being eaten alive and punishes them for doing so. It's the worst possible culmination of factors one could ask for.
Oh, I understand the frustration, don't get me wrong, I'm a player too and I do encounter situations like this in Dbd and other games too, it's something that happens everywhere, so there's a grade of acceptance that you might end up encountering people like that.
Hell, I remember playing DS2 back in the days and getting invaded by hackers who machinegun-spammed tons of corrosive urns on you to just destroy your entire equipment.
-
@[Deleted User] said:

While that's true and it's a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why cheaters keep getting in (even if they're being banned or marked to be a part of a larger ban wave in record numbers behind the scenes), it doesn't explain why BHVR refuses to provide failsafes for the player in the event that the match they're in is held hostage by a cheater, and instead forces everything from going through the long external process of reporting the cheater to eating a DC penalty to being harassed by other players in the match (because they didn't see the cheater) onto the victim. BHVR has simply done nothing to provide its users with protections from these people, even though it has the power to do so, even if a few of those options have obvious downsides.
I understand that BHVR likes to work on more long-term solutions for things in their game but this is something that needs a short term solution as well. Because I fear that once BHVR goes on holiday break that things are going to get really bad and the game is going to be practically unplayable.
Trust me, I'd love for the game to have a replay system and a better in-game report process, it would save a lot of time for us too, but that's not something I can help you with, I'm just trying to explain how things work.

Banning people quite often while you can buy account fully loaded for 2 dollars or giving the game for free on epic store aint much a help to it imo.
And lets be real, same hacks has been going on for years now. Without a serious investment, it will never decrease the amount of cheaters
What you see at "the same hack" might just be a new iteration of the same program, because that's pretty much how it works, new hacks don't really do nothing newer than old hacks, they just bypass the latest versions of the anti-cheat.
-
I want to spend a couple of words on this topic.
The battle between hackers and anti-cheats is never ending, as much as people think we do not ban people, bans happen quite often, the anti-cheat gets updated constantly, but it's simple to understand that you can't block hacks that haven't been found yet.
To put it simple: hackers create hack, EAC updates to block it, so hackers create new hack, then EAC updates to block this one too, and so on and so forth.
It's a continuous fight.
-
I'm closing this here because apparently people can't be civil and discuss something, without feeling attacked or attacking others.

I've been having a ball with the snowmen, both as survivor and killer. I can't help but bust out laughing when I see a survivor in one waving their arms frantically and slowly approaching me.
I tend to let the ones who've embraced the snowman meme to live. I had a Nea last night who jumped in one right after the last gen had popped, but both of the gates were on the opposite side of the map. I escorted her to safety, hoping she'd have enough time to escape (and laughed even harder when her teammate dropped a pallet in front of her to troll her).

The snowmen have been a fun addition. As someone who plays a lot of killer, I understand the frustrations with the mechanics of it, but I play to have fun (even as I'm sitting at Rank 1, where fun normally goes to die, lol) -- anything that's a change from "5 gens done in 5 minutes" speedruns in a welcome difference, IMO.
Thank you for sharing this, that was great! I love that they turned around just before leaving!

My question is do we have to do the snowman tasks more then once to get the other charms or cosmetics?
Of course, you get one unlock every time you either hit a survivor who is hiding in a snowman, escape as a snowman or get hit while hiding in one.
There's a total of 10 cosmetics to unlock, you don't get all of them the first time you complete the task.

Where in your menu does the cocoa dip charm appear?
I've got hit in like 20 snowmen and in my charm list I only see 2 of them in the event section unless for some reason it appears somewhere else?
I think that's the Survivor only charm.

On the Steam forums there is a player insisting that it's random who gets a cosmetic... That while you have to do the things in game to qualify, its' still random if you get a reward or not. So me having gotten all 10 rewards in 11 games played is me being well loved by RNGesus and not the average player's experience.
Is this true, or if you get the glowy aura, you'll get one of the cosmetics?
As long as you get the sparkles you got the unlock for that match.
-
@Potatotro said:
I've been having problems getting the rewards for the event on both killer and survivor. I've done all the required things in order to get the rewards for the event, I can tell because I'd get the blue glow effect that you receive for either hitting a survivor out of a snowman, or being hit out of a snowman myself. Is there a period of time for getting the affect that will allow you to get the reward. However, after almost all of my games I have gotten nothing. Is there something to the event that I'm missing? Perhaps someone could enlighten me on what I'm doing wrong.
The pop-up of what you got is shown in the tally screen at the end of the match, you may have skipped through it.
If you got the sparkles, you got the unlock, maybe check the characters if you got any of these cosmetics:
Please keep in mind there's a survivor only charm and a killer only charm if you don't find them.

I'm really hoping this is a trend we can expect to see in the future. It's super healthy event design. I was pretty stressed solo queueing during the anniversary event and a lot of the crowns came from friendly killers - participation that takes some interaction with an event mechanic but doesn't require you to 'win' is a great idea.
I hope so too, it feels fair both sides, also the randomness of the unlocks also gives that surprise effect when you get the cosmetic, it's definitely a good change and hopefully the template for future events.

Oh, ok. lol. misunderstanding then.
My point then I was attempting to push was they're now extra random terrain that didn't exist before that you can interact with. Survivors can either hop into them and use them as a get out of jail free card against some killers, and heavily frustrate others.
Like, it completely undermines T3 Myers, Ghostieboy, and Twins. It also causes headaches for Nurse. It's just frustrating that I'm already seeing survivors use them to push playing the game in not chill ways.
For what I've seen so far, people goof around most of the time (not saying there may be some people who specifically sweat to get the perfect snowman to tank a hit and keep going), and a lot of survivors get hit while entering the snowman, injuring or downing them, since the animation is pretty slow.

Never mind snowmen shutting down Twins and removing save the best for last stacks, just git gud! It's supposed to be a very fun event!!! Don't try so hard killer mains!!!!
STBFL removes the stacks if you hit the obsession just like it gives stacks if you hit someone who is not the obsession.
Please don't make it a Us VS Them discussion, no one here is bashing this or that side, I'm just pointing out that this specific clip doesn't prove the issue.

I wasn't attempting to bash the huntress, sorry. That wasn't the direction I wanted to go. It's just a direct example of how the snowmen can be used in a clearly not intended way that also does put killers at a disadvantage.
Oh, I didn't mean you were bashing them, I didn't want to bash them myself.
I'm very bad at Huntress myself so I feel them for missing open shots, I just didn't want to keep using them as an example, because that clip doesn't really show the issues you are describing, but just a player who is not too versed in playing Huntress.
-
@SonicOffline said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2689989#Comment_2689989
I agree it's worse than using a structure, but it's still kind of cheese to randomly put these on the map that can be used as terrain, as well as get out of jail free cards. Let's imagine that the Steve in that video just used them like corners/trees instead of hopping into them. Can we really fault the Huntress at that point for missing all her shots? Or did Steve outplay her at that point by using the snowmen? Because if survivors play that way instead of hopping into them, it's just an RNG shield that the devs added and called an event. It's just shaped like a snowman and can be used as a free hit state.
And frankly isn't fun to deal with as killer.
I'm sorry and I don't want to turn this thread into a "bash on random huntress player" but I really wouldn't use this specific example to prove your point, the player missed very open shots even before Steve reached any snowmen.
I understand you don't like the mechanic, and it's fair, it's basically impossible to please everyone, but at this point it seems like you are reaching to find issues with the snowmen.
-
@SonicOffline said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2689974#Comment_2689974
So it would protect Steve if he just used it as a hatchet block? That's actually worse than hopping into it, because now it'll respawn.
It will respawn randomly on the map, of course, but it's worse than using a tree or any structure to avoid a hit.
-

Actual question btw. Does the hatchet still get eaten even if she throws it at an empty snowman? Or if Steve hides behind it instead of inside it, will he still get hit if she throws through it?
Yes, the hatchet will break the snowman, empty or not.

They only respawn if you hit them while they are empty, and if you encountered a bug, please use the Bug Report section.
-
This video has been posted already multiple times, it's 5 gens, the survivor basically used all the snowmen in the map (keep in mind they do not respawn if you get hit while inside them) and the real issue there is the Huntress missing most shots, Steve would've reached the loops no matter the snowmen.
