I think the killer should be able to see the survivors in the lobby to prepare. The killer IS the power role after all and information is power.
With just the information gathered from the survivors at the lobby the killer is able to:
Pick a character: Don't play Hag if they are all bringing flashlights for example.
Know how many survivors with the same character and skin will play. That could also help in guessing which perks are more likely to come into play. Laurie = DS.
Know who are friends with eachother to strategize. Friends tend to be more altruistic with eachother in my experience.
See who is streaming the match. Incidentally, the only reason why I dodge a lobby is if there are two or more streamers in it because, HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING, I would not be able to watch two streams at once while efectibly playing the match.
When you admit to stream sniping....
Not bannable, but it does make me judge you

Because the most killer perks can be countered.
lol wait wait wait.
Survivors have more really good perks than killers??? Where?
The only top tier perks survivors have are Adrenaline, Lithe/Balanced Landing (used almost interchangeably), and Borrorwed Time. D-strike just gets you tunneled and Dead Hard works maybe once if the killer is good. Every time after that, they'll wait til you use it then just hit you after so it's trash to me.

As a killer you must have Hex Ruin or otherwise survivors are doing gens within 5 minutes, im a rank 1 killer main nurse and i have hex ruin on her and i stamp most of my games, but sometimes i get tired of her and want to try in this case plague, on plague i dont have hex ruin but i do have about 30 cakes (thrid anniversary) and whenever i play a killer thats not nurse i use: Hex ruin, Brutal strenght, spirit fury and enduring, but in the end of it all there are still double pallets and there are still infinity loops in every map and survivors are trying to run to them as fast as possible and during this time they can use about 5 pallets and within those 5 pallets i have most certainly gotten a hit on them but not downed them and they are at the inifinity loop. And during all this times the others have done 4 gens and i still havent gotten a single hook (remember i dont have hex ruin this time) so im starting to stress out and i want that hook. When the inifnity loop is finally over and i get the survivor downed adrenaline kicks in and the survivor used the 14 other pallets remaining more or less in the map to finally escape, leaving me there without a single hook and with about 6k in points and the other survivors with about 15 to 20k each.
THIS IS WHY I MAIN NURSE, because its the only true way to stomp the survivors without breaking any "rule books" or being called a camper or a noob. Its the only way to win,
IT TOOK ME 200 HOURS to master NURSE, and for all of you that are struggeling with how mindgames or loops, go onto nurse while ur reading this, trust me u have time, to find lobbies takes about 10 minutes.
"there are still double pallets and infinity loops in every map"???? Please show me these magical locations you've found.
And I also play killer part time and don't use Ruin (except on Trapper) and do just fine without it

I’m torn because I would like to believe players’ better nature will win out and people will be more friendly and can organize party streamers and gateau seshs - but I know deep down there will be toxicity and backstabbing.
“Hi guys! I hope you have fun. I’m doing a challenge I’m really struggling with, if you guys can help out that would be great!”
”:)”
Scenario A: Killer is genuinely struggling and survivors purposely waste their time and deny points.
Scenario B: Kindhearted survivors try to help and get tunneled and moried for their help.
Basically this. I want to believe this would help, but then I also know how this community can be. (Bubba's who fake like they want to farm and then chainsaw the entire team down, I'm looking at you)
-
For the first paragraph, I have two things to say.
First, as tilted as I've gotten in this game, I would never condone telling someone to kill themselves.
Second (kinda has two separate but related points), survivors have been complaining more in the past year because it's been an entire year of consistent nerfs to survivors because, drumroll please.......... the killers are also screaming "NERF THIS TO THE GROUND" (and we don't have to look any further back that Mettle of Man to see that)
On to the second paragraph, that being said, I don't think the entire community is that way. My friends and I (yes we play SWF very often) are some of the least toxic people out there.
And on to the last point, SWF is not inherently a problem and I'll use my games last night as an example. I played about 10 games last night in a group. I was rank 4 for most of the games, went to rank 3. Two of my friends were rank 8. And our last friend was a rank 20, basically brand new to the game. (And I don't know if it matters, but my rank 8 friend was the one that made the lobby if that means anything in this matchmaking system)
We were getting killers rank 14-16 the entire night. Our team got STOMPED multiple matches by Trappers and Huntresses without Ruin for a couple of reasons. Like, 1 gen done or less, stomped.
- The new guy sucked, naturally. So that's dead weight on the team and basically makes it a 3 v 1.
- Because the new person sucks and has no idea where gens are or anything, the rest of us are basically playing "hero" the entire game and trying to keep him AND each other alive.
- My 2 experienced friends were also just making dumb decisions in the name of altruism (3 of them ended up in the basement one game and wasn't ######### I could do to save them)
These things were happening with ALL of us in a voice call and with a majority of the team being pretty far above the killer's rank. Not ALL SWF games are toxic swat teams. Some of us are legit trying to teach new friends how to play a game.

I think a lot of people here are so far removed from being a NEW player that they forget what it's like. Either that, or they picked up the game really quickly and never played with complete "miss every skill check, run and leave scratch marks for no reason" noobs.
A new player is NOT thinking about the grind or raising their characters. They also aren't going for saves enough to benefit from WGLF.
A new player wants to stay healthy, stay hidden, find teammates, and avoid death. There's no better 2 survivors for those things than Dwight and Claudette.
Making the argument that a perk develops what YOU consider to be a "bad habit" later on is irrelevant to the discussion of what is best for a NEW player. Self care is irreplaceable for a new players. Sucks that they nerfed it, but it's still top tier for a new player. Urban evasion is amazing for new players. Hell, I have friends with over 1000 hours in the game who still hold on to that crutch.
Can't believe I'm saying this but (ugh) Sprint Burst is amazing in the low ranks. I never used it because I always used Feng and Lithe, but Sprint Burst is more dependable for those new players who walk and crouch their asses off.
Yall gotta put yourselves back in the shoes of a newbie.
-
Thank you for bringing this up because I was a part of that other discussion.
And I want to make it clear that I am in no way, advocating for survivors being to DC in a match or encouraging it.
My only comment was that I "understand" it because sometimes it's based on a decision killers get to make before the match even starts. Disconnecting in a loading screen because "Nah, I don't feel like playing against a Mori" is in my opinion the exact same as "disconnecting" from a lobby because "Nah, I don't feel like playing against a (fill in the blank)."
I would even take it like half a step further and say that people who DC within like the first minute of the game are making kind of the same decision. Like "Nah, I'm not playing against Iri heads." They made the decision to leave the game as soon as they were given the info.
AGAIN, not encouraging it. I'm just making a comparison.
Now, with that being said, I definitely don't think survivors should be able to see the killer before the match starts. That would ruin stealth killers more than anyone.
What could be done however is:
- Removing survivor names to prevent killers from being toxic to players they've played before.
- Alternatively, ADD the killer name to the lobby so survivors can check out their profile. (I once checked a killer's profile post game to find a list of things like "Will DC if Ruin is broken before 1st hook. Will face camp if you loop me for more than 30 seconds. Face camp if you have a key, etc. Had I known that before the match, I would lobby dodge them)
- This is a little wacky, but if there was a way to not show any items in the lobby, and when it gets to the offering screen, the game says "X amount of survivors brought items, would you like to equip Franklin's Demise?" and give the killer time to switch it out for another equipped perk if they choose to do so at that time.(To do that, it would have to become a base perk and not a teachable though)
-
WGLF stacks aren't promised in a match in the same way that BBQ stacks are for killers. If someone else gets the save before you, it's a wasted perk slot. Plus Dead Hard is NOT noob friendly at all. There's a delicate timing window in which Dead Hard is even effective against a killer and even pros mistime it.
Dwight and Claudette have always been the best two for new players. Dwight for his ability to find and help teammates while also helping himself (Bond, Leader, Prove Thyself)
and Claudette for her stealth, healing ability, and ability to see other injured people (Self Care, Botany Knowledge, and Empathy)
When I was new, Self Care and Empathy were irreplaceable. I didn't care how many other perks I unlocked, those two stayed on for a long time.

4 man SWF's are more altruistic than any other team though because they want to save their friends.
Trust me, I often play 4 man SWF and I will get myself killed intentionally if it means my friend gets to get away XD

i like your bullet point #3 about killers technically dc'ing because they don't want to face your toolboxes, medkits, and flashlights.. if a killer cared about that they'll bring franklins.. if they dodge your lobby it's because you look like you're gonna be a lame game, period..
it's not the items, it's the blendette powers you've activated on your characters so you can blend into the shadows and laugh when the killer is "blind" because he doesn't want to walk around checking behind every pile of crap on the map looking for you :)
some people have fun playing like that & that's fine.. that doesn't mean everyone does. still, we are given a 60 second timer in the lobby to let everyone decide if they want to load into the game or not once all players are here. It's like that for a reason. It gives all 5 players 60 seconds to decide if they want to play this particular game or not. If you wait the 60 seconds, it is the same as pressing ready.
if everyone readies up, a game agreement has taken place.. at that point, a dc becomes a dc.. it's a game mechanic, the 60 second countdown. it's not long enough for people to add & message each other and make arrangements to play a game a certain way, but it is long enough for you to decide if these are the guys you want to load into the fog with..
I run Feng with her red dress and green hair. I don't blend with anything LOL
And the lobby is just a waiting area for survivors. The survivor lobby and killer lobby are NOT the same so Idk why you just tried to do some wordplay gymnastics to make them seem like they were. The only thing a survivor gets to decide technically at that point is how much lag they're willing to deal with based on the killer ping. The killer has that choice as well as adapting their perk build and offering to counter what they're playing against. That's not the same thing at all XD
-
okay but can we talk about why you chose to put "urse", "pirit", and "illy" in parenthesis though? XD

DBD Players on Catan: "I don't care that you got to 10 Victory Points before I did, I had fun getting my Longest Road, therefore, from my perspective, I also won."
DBD Players on Poker: "You may have taken all of my chips, but who is really the winner? I mean, I'm the only one who had a Four-of-a-Kind during the whole playing session."

DBD Players on Rock, Paper, and Scissors: "Ok, you may have beaten my Scissors with your Rock, but given how we both had fun, doesn't that make us both winners in the end?"

-
I'll just bullet point this to make it easier to read:
- Legion NEEDED a nerf and it wasn't solely because of DC's, it's because they were a toxic and broken killer.
- Your entire X = DC argument existed before Legion and continues to persist after his nerf. I played against a killer the other day who DC'd as soon as the match started and then said "I don't play Haddonfield"
- For those complaining about survivors disconnecting in the loading screen when they see a Mori, killers DC even before then. The survivor doesn't want to play the game against a Mori. And many killers don't want to play against a team of toolboxes, medkits, and flashlights. Lobby dodge = DC imo
-
I was confused when you said you went AGAINST them but you were a survivor lol
Anyway, I see that less as salt and more as trolling. Like, they literally can't be salty if they left their own friend so I feel like they were just throwing fake salt at you because you weren't in their group
-
There's the literal definition that some people are arguing about and then there's my personal definition, which I think is what this thread is about despite the people arguing that "fun isn't winning" (yall must be real fun at parties)
Like many people have said, I consider it a win if I have fun. As killer, I could hook everyone twice and then let them all escape and still count that as a win because of all the bloodpoints (especially if BBQ is equipped)
As a survivor, me and my entire team can die but if the killer didn't camp or tunnel anyone and gave everyone a chance to play the game, again I'd consider it a win.

Sounds like a plan.
Honestly I had a game as Doctor where I found someone running Calm Spirit. I hooked him and left the first time, but the second time I caught him took forever because that perk hard counters Doctor and I proxy camped his ass because I didn't feel like searching again XD

Well I'm rank 4, 2 of my friends are rank 8, and the other one is a 13 currently (our rank 10 went to dinner).
So our killers have been all between ranks 7-15 because "what even is matchmaking" and "pretty good job so far".
-
Short version:
As survivor: Try to do everything. A good mix of gens, hook saves, and one or two decent chases will allow you to pip (depending on your rank). Most of the time when you don't pip as a survivor, it's because you were only doing gens, or only saving people, or you never got chased and hid the whole match.
As killer: Honestly just don't play like a dick? If you don't tunnel and camp and you actually hook everyone a couple of times, try to keep gens from popping, and hit people, you'll pip. Most of the time when killers don't pip, it's because they camped and tunneled people, killed people too fast, and on occasion let gens pop too quickly (it's usually the camping/tunneling tho)

I'm biased because I said the top players aren't the only ones that mattered?
Or I'm biased for pointing out an accepted fact that Legion was broken since his release (double blade with infinite mending, moonwalking exploit) He was literally the ONLY killer who didn't have a counter. All he had to do was Frenzy, look at the ground and follow your scratch marks until you bled out or stopped to mend.

Lol low skill players find freddy and clown OP and the game shouldn't be based on top players. I wonder what the game is badly balanced and unfun these days.
Legion was broken but they simply destroyed him, high ranks told many feedback to make him great and not broken but here we are.
And high rank players have also suggested making Ruin basekit which funnily enough hurts newer players more than it hurts experienced players anyway, so many everything high ranked players have to say isn't valid.

Most insta-downs in the game are not comparable to an insta-heal that you can use at any point you are injured.
And yes, I would.
If you think those should be nerfed as well, then I'd also be willing to lose insta-heals. One question though.
Which insta-downs would you consider not comparable out of curiosity? Insta-heal is gone the second you use it.
Iri heads (which most huntresses will also use with a belt to have 3 hatchets) can be used throughout the entire match they're brought in.
Same as the Clown bottle (afterpiece tonic I think it's called)
Of course there's the 2 chainsaw killers which isn't even an add on and is in their basekit as something they can do every match.
Myers and Ghostface both have to stalk for theirs but it's easy to get at least twice a match
All of those are easily more powerful than a one time use insta-heal.
-
@xllxENIGMAxllx said:
A pain to balance of course he will be hard if they don't listen their top players. Legion was the typical exemple in the 2.7.0 PTB.
- Screw the top players. The top players are not representative of the entire player base. This is NOT an e-sport. It's not Overwatch with millions on the line between two equal teams. The entire player base matters, new and old.
- Legion was a broken, toxic, ######### killer when he was released, full of exploits and bs. He deserved the entire rework.

"No, because then it wouldn't be an insta-heal."
Isn't that the point?
"Yes, because they're too powerful and game breaking (sigh)."
But this is true, no?
The point of an inta-heal is to be instant. There's nothing wrong with the insta-heal as long as killers have insta-downs (both as add ons and as basekit for multiple killers)
Clearly you didn't follow the flow chart well. If you feel insta-heals are too powerful, would you also be in favor of nerfing insta-downs, ebony moris, iri heads, and other things that are more common and much more broken
-
No Mither (take off the injured music and give double bp)
Left Behind (literally useless with egc)
Diversion (not a top priority but just drop the timer to 30 seconds instead of 45. The perk is already a meme, make it more usable)
-

Oh and if killers get an extra perk slot for hex's, survivors should get an extra perk slot for Anti-tunneling like Borrorwed time or something. Since Hex's are basically some of the strongest killer perks (Ruin, NOED, Haunted Grounds, Devour Hope, Third Seal isn't bad either if you're playing against solos)
-
Fact 1: The longer a match drags out, the more likely the killer is to benefit
Fact 2: Survival rates are already below 50% overall which leads to
Fact 3: Increasing the time it takes to finish a match while cleansing 2 EXTRA totems to avoid NOED which would be made stronger by having 7 totems (that take longer to cleanse with your suggestion) would just make the game hell for survivors with little chance of escaping
-
@NoShinyPony said:
You are playing together with survivors and killers who start to learn how the game works. New survivors are super careful and too scared to do gens and killers camp the survivor once they downed them. You should be fine in green ranks.

You aren't hearing me. Say I hook a survivor in the basement and facecamp them. Even if the Surviviors abandon their hooked friend to die, they have 2 options here. And both are a losing situation for them if the killer runs Noed.
1. Genrush. Hard. But this would require 3 toolboxes, no ruin, and doing literally nothing except generators. No healing. No cleansing. No sabotaging. No hiding. No poking in to see if a save is possible. No nothing. Fall on the gens and pray to God the guy holds on, don't doing nothing, while we hopefully get gens done.
2. Don't rush gens to stop Noed, and the. The guy on the hook dies for nothing
THANK YOU!
All these people saying "weLl jUst do Gens and ToTeMS."
That is the grossest over-simplification of camping.
- I have to go assess the situation and FIND OUT that the killer is hard camping and not just breaking pallets, kicking gens, or patrolling the area.
- Once you find out the killer is still near hook, you have to try to coordinate with ANOTHER teammate for one person to distract and pull the killer away while the other person gets the save.
- THEN when you find out the killer won't follow anyone, you have to rush gens.
If I'm being GENEROUS, that takes a full minute (assuming a 4 man SWF with comms because none of the above is even possible with less than that) which is half of the hooked person's lifespan.
BUT for the sake of argument, let's say the person gets hook, there's 4 gens left and the survivors already know the killer is camping. It's still literally impossible to do 4 gens and 5 totems in 2 minutes.
This is why people consider camping toxic to the game. Hell I've tested it myself and I ended up with 3ks and 4ks every time I camped someone. "Just do gens and totems" is a statement not based in the reality of what actually has to occur in the match
-
I wish I could easily create a flow chart, but let me try anyway and see how this works
Should Insta-heals be changed to heal over time?
No, because then it wouldn't be an insta-heal. ✔️
Yes, because they're too powerful and game breaking (sigh) ❌
Since you think they're too powerful and game breaking, would you also be in favor of changing OTHER game breaking things like Ebony Moris, Iri Heads, Omega blinks, one shot clown bottles, etc?
No, those things are perfectly fine. (sigh) ❌
Yes, I would be willing to discuss nerfing or tweaking those as well. ✔️(here's someone you can have a rational conversation with)
Why do you feel those things are perfectly fine but an insta-heal is not.
The killer should be the power role ❌ (Abort, abort. leave that conversation immediately because this person is power tripping and thinks the game should be unbalanced for their side)

LOL Are you really trying to save MoM is better than an insta-heal.
Please tell me when is the last time you've seen ANYONE in any rank use MoM? I'll wait but I won't hold my breath. That perk got nerfed into the ground. I'd bring Dark Sense into a match before I ran MoM

ive seen ppl say that survival rate at high ranks ends up being of like 70% or something, i honestly dont quite fully believe it but if thats how it is , thats how it is
I think the Devs said that the survivor rate for rank 1 POST match was high because survivors that died in rank one often de-pipped to rank 2 after the match and therefore wasn't counted in rank 1, whereas most of the people who survived the match stayed in rank 1 so the data looks skewed to say that high rank survivors almost always live
