It is...difficult to be happy for you.
I am...glad that you have found something boring enough to help you win?

No

Patience.
I did it like four years ago and it was not pleasant.

Uh.
I'd be here for a week. Half of mindgames are just intuitive knowledge that you pick up. The other half are reads.
Unless you want to know about check spots.

- One of them was streaming and had a "Skull Merchant Rage DC counter" on display and when I asked them what it was for they said something along the lines of, "For the ragequitting Survivor mains who throw a tantrum whenever a Killer is winning"
And this is the result of the devs just accepting the stupid notion that the killer must be "the power role" and have a 70% win rate. People get power trips like this.
It would be oh so sweet if people doing this got placed to face high level, highly coordinated SWFs and had a huge loss streak to deflate them. But no, the game just puts them against whichever random is available and keeps them riding their power high because God forbid people have to wait in queue more than 30 seconds to have a properly balanced match.
Yeah, I actually went against them again tonight.
I'm still in the match as I'm typing it out. They aren't leaving the 3-gen, so I'm free to type lmao. They've picked up and dropped multiple people so that they don't bleed out rather than hook them.

I think it'll lose players, but it'll probably still be alive and kicking even if the NEXT anniversary is a flop.

How on earth could it be possible that a game what lives in a total different genre will cause an effect on the number of players which play DBD? Almost every couple of month there is a kind of hyped game which is on the way. What does Diablo 4 offer what other games were not able to and why that has any impact on DBD?
I don't think they are comparable, but DBD took a hit when Elden Ring came out.

If 3gen lasts for 10min already just break it or die?
Good matches for maxing out bp and then giving up if you ask me. But sure play them out even for 2 hours if you enjoy it that much
Because I don't want to have to DC or throw because a Killer has decided to hold the game hostage.

Why required? You can totally get out in EGC without it, just due to body blocking.
According to Nightlight, BT dropped from 36% before perk overhauls to 3.6% now. Just bc. of base BT effect. Disabling only base BT in end game but not the perk, would give some incentive to run it more again. It would still be far away from the former 36%. And since BT perk doubles the duration of endurance, an increase in BT pick rates might actually have a small effect against tunneling, simply because waiting out the base BT timer would fail more often.
You really can't.
You just end up trading.

Of course everyone want escape. But this kind of people .... Please ... That is not normal.
Obviously it doesn't excuse a bad attitude and being mean to people.
It's important to remember we all have different ideas of fun. Some people have fun going for flashlight saves, some have fun doing gens, some have fun winning.
-
As pathetic as it is, I struggle to have fun when I'm not winning.
I can learn from it, sure, but I won't have fun unless I win. Been like that since I was like 2 lol

But you know, there was a time before basekit BT where the survivors still escaped. They woul have to use NORMAL BT then.
So I'm thinking, how about disabling base BT in endgame, but not BT perk? So if you really want that extra bit of protection in end game, you have to bring good'ol BT perk in your loadout.
So the perk is now back to being required?
Not a good solution.
The EGC is fine as is. If anything, it shouldn't be so Killer-sided, but I'm not in much of a mood to change it

Endgame is supposed to be killer sided, and should be. Survivors don't deserve a free escape
Once again, it is not a free escape.
EGC is not supposed to be Killer-sided, it's supposed to end the match.
Killers don't deserve a free Kill, which is EXACTLY what no basekit BT would give them.
-
This has been around for years.
It's kinda fun and it's not a big deal
-
It's not a free escape lol
If you take it away, EGC becomes even more Killer-sided.

I think her ability to lock down 3 gens is a bit undersold, to be honest. She can render gens unrepairable in multi-floor buildings because of Exposed+Undetectable. That effectively turns a 3 gen into a 2 gen unless the survivors are just dumb/don't know any better or have tight comms+Balanced Landing. And people tend to forget about the delay each drone causes on top of taking players with claw traps out of gen repairs. There's a whole lot of steps survivors have to take just to start a gen against her.
Those pre-requisites aren't there for other killers who can play around a 3 gen. You can take the infection and W early against Plague, but she has no natural stall like SM. Hag can be turned into a meme if everyone W's up the map walls away from the 3 gen, and again, no natural delay. Oni is on a timer, and you can jump in a locker to force him out of his power if you get caught out and want to prevent a snowball.
SM is much better at locking down gens because she has natural delay and a combination of stealth+lethality to make certain gens too risky.
You basically said exactly what I was trying to say, just better.

That's kind of the problem, though. For all killers, barring maybe a few exceptions, finding a 3-gen and defending it is the surest way to victory, and unlike camping and tunnelling there's not much survivors can really do against it. Skull Merchant is in no way unique in this regard, it's just that something about her kit made certain players want to 3-gen for whatever reason. Maybe to annoy the opposition or something?
It's not even that she's weak, Sadako is weak and she doesn't have a reputation for holding 3-gens for 40 minutes. It's not that there's no other way to use her power because there absolutely is. I genuinely cannot grasp why SM has become the poster child for this issue...
Regardless, I would personally say that if SM is complained about this much, and we understand that she's really no different from almost any other killer in this regard, it should stand to reason that the game does need to move away from 3-gens as a viable option. There's no way to avoid it otherwise- make SM somehow incapable of doing it and those who want to will just move to the next best thing, since she's not actually that much better at it than the alternatives. Again, unless there's something I'm missing, I'm always open to the idea that there may be.
She IS different.
The time it takes to remove a Drone is critical. It let's her use perks like CoB, Overcharge and other similar perks.
If you don't disable the Drone, she's fast, you're Exposed and she knows where you are. She can also have addons to make doing gens harder.
If you disable the Drone, she's fast and she knows where you are. There's nothing stopping her from just putting up another Drone and kicking the gen again.
There's CLEARLY something wrong with her since she's the only Killer that holds games hostage via 3-gen. Sure, other Killers CAN hold a 3-gen. Nobody does it like Dull Merchant, nobody can time out games like she can.

@RoastedGarlic said:

she isn't dull, however most of the people that use her don't know how to use her properly. When used right she is absolutely a blast to chase survivors with.
again she isn't the problem, 3 genning is. A lot of killers can do it, she just happens to be the best. To solve the problem you don't change every killer than can 3 gen. You change 3 genning. Work smarter not harder.
She's not.
Even if you don't use the 3-gen or Totem Defender strat, you're just gonna be an anti-loop Killer. Place Drone at loop, Survivors must leave loop and eat an M1, hold W, repeat.
You could just play Knight. That's a significant portion of his gameplay.
-
@RoastedGarlic said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3425347#Comment_3425347
Ive already said they need to fix 3 genning. Make it so gens are further apart and when 3 gens are completed 1-2 breakdown and can be repaired again. Doing this when you're at 1 gen left instead of 3 gens being able to be repaired there are now 4-5 gens available and now 3 gen strats are completely annihilated for all killers. Not just SM but the Knight aswell.
but everyone just ignores that is the real problem here. Like you have done in your post. I absolutely want 3 gens gone. Because yes i hate facing skull merchants because of the default 3 gen mode.
And yet, I've not been held in 30 minute matches by any other Killer.

I do not understand how one can stay for longer than 20 minutes not to mention 50. I would start taking risks which would either work (in a good team) or would result in me being sacrificed (with team mates having fun extending the match for eternity).
I'm in Europe (Central, GMT+1). I barely see any SMs but Weskers (the tunneling / camping kind) are aplenty. I would gladly switch with you.
Because I'm trying to win, not throw the game.
Just so happens that SM 3-gens are nearly impossible to break in a 4-man, let alone Solo Q.

3 minutes for the first one. 2 people DC'd as soon as they saw Drones on gens.
35 minutes on the second game. Everyone just started giving up eventually.
Around 50 minutes on the last one.

Its baffling how you guys are missing the friggen point here. I never claimed Wraith is S tier. I never claimed I am a god level player. I never claimed most wraith's are not B tier.
I claimed Wraith CAN be played at a HIGH and COMPETETIVE level where he can be AS GOOD as certain HIGHER tier killers when put in the right hands. And rather than prove that with my own logic, stats or even screenshots as everyone here is clearly so goddamn closed minded.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX9_4qUFjj8
That's all I have to say. Its so dumb how this community puts killers in a box and tries to make these claims that because their Tier assesses that typically they would be played at a certain level of competitiveness, that no one in their right minds can ever play them well enough to raise that tier TO THAT PLAYER and in THOSE GAMES.
And no, I'm not saying that I am the #1 Wraith player, I'm saying I have it on good authority that most Wraith mains tunnel and slug to win, I DON'T, I don't cause I don't have to.
Tunneling is literally not a merit of skill, it's a goddamn crutch that bad players use on bad killers to play better, and that average players use on GOOD killers to play even better. If you are gonna boast about someone's skill and they tunnel all the time, I don't care if they are nurse or blight or wesker, you ain't impressing me.
But to make these brainless claims that killers should be placed in some tier box that no one can ever pull them out of.
I only have one last question than.
I want please, no jokes, or toxicity here, I'm genuinely curious. Why do you all even play this game? Do you really just pick 1 killer that you deem "good" and try to master them. If you play this game and believe that killers are what the stats or what the "tiers" say they are, and that simply by seeing a match is against a "low-tier" killer, that you believe that means you are going to win and win easily.
Like why do you play this game, a game that stringently unbalanced and pigeon-holed sounds like the most boring game imaginable.
I don't honestly care if people think Wraith or I am Bad, but I honestly, for real, just want to know what does everyone enjoy about this game?
I enjoy this game because no matter the killer you choose, you can find perk and addon combinations that can make them more effective than they might typically be based on the community's judgement of them. I like playing as ######### m1 killers like Myers, Ghostface, Freddy and coming up with builds that make them strong and annoying to play against.
It honestly seems like most of the community want this game to be one where as long as you understand the "meta" than any killer you play against, is as predictable and "rated" as you and the community deem them to be.
Again, this whole post was just to show the Wraith's "potential" not the Wraith's "standard" like good lord.
If anyone has a genuine answer to my question I really want to know, cause to be honest. Alot of this community treats other players like if they aren't AS GOOD as them, than they aren't even good at all, they are #########, and anytime people try to claim skill they have, it's the community's goal to like correct people, to put them in their place that, they aren't playing the "meta" the "high tier" killer that the community agrees upon, therefore there is no discussion that any other killer can even be good.
Nobody really disagreed with you. Everyone said, yeah, he's not strong but he isn't weak. He's decent, but he relies on his addons to much.
Then you started ranting and screeching. Chill out dude. It's not that deep. People don't have to mindlessly agree with your every word.

@BloodBird said:
So everyone pretty much said what I was expecting, nay, hoping people would say, so this is my only response.
Wraith is without a doubt a B-Tier killer, and saying he is anything lower is a delusion on your own assessment of the game.
However, any killer can be higher than their own tier in the right hands. One screenshot proves nothing you are correct, but ME personally, I win just about 90% of my games, I am at a high MMR threshold, and I almost never tunnel, slug or camp in order to win, I even usually give final survivor a chance at hatch.
The addons are certainly helpful for Wraith, but I can still win games without them. That being said, the build you're looking at, is not one you can judge until you have played against it, not unless you actually understand why those perks are there.
This build is pretty much useless on any killer other than Wraith. The screenshot was simply an example of how strong a Wraith CAN be, when utilized the right way.
Fun fact, before Eruption got nerfed, I personally was able to win games without a single gen popping, and I could do this consistently.
You can make your instant judgement's all you want. But I do want to leave this thread with one thought when it comes to assessing killer and/or player skill.
Wesker is an A tier killer and everyone seems to agree with this. Everyone would also not argue that just about 90% of Wesker's are tunnelers, I have a friend who literally is keeping his own stats showing Wesker's tunnel three times more than any other killer.
Are people honestly going to make the argument, that in Dead By Daylight, when it comes to assessing killer/player skill/power, it is more impressive for a Wesker to win consistently, by relying almost solely on tunneling, than for a Warith, a "#########" killer, to win consistently and rarely ever tunnel.
I sometimes feel in this game and with it's community, people can't fathom that anything other than their already existing pre-conceived notions of what is or isn't good in this game could be questioned.
Anyway, I'm not posting this response cause I care too much if people think Wraith's are bad, just wanted to see what engagement it would get.
I actually love knowing that when I get into a match people must laugh when they see I'm a wraith, much like what happened in this chat, until I 4k them that is.
🙂
Anyone who unironically uses the line "I'm high-mmr" instantly loses argument points.

He's alright. He's pretty addon reliant, but his addons are all actually good.

You are not sharing any facts with us here, but rather your personal opinions seasoned with exaggerations and false information. You are free to share your dissatisfaction with Skull Merchant and DBD in general in what feels like every thread in this forum, so that every DBD Forum user knows your opinion. But please stop calling your dislikes for certain characters "facts".
Fact: Her lore is bad. I've not seen a single person defend it and it's been meme'd to death.
Imagine that just because you don't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I for one like her lore, and apparently I'm not the only one.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3423988#Comment_3423988
And you make rude jokes about it.
This leaves her with two "viable" styles of play. Totem defender and 3-gens
No. If you know how, you can also play her chase-oriented. Few killers in DBD have more than two effective ways to play. Why does this make a killer bad? Good killer strategies are usually a combination of chase, 3gen, strategic camping, tunneling and slugging. Blindly committing to a strategy doesn't work with good survivors. You always have to adapt to your opponents and to the RNG and remain flexible in terms of your strategy.
Her power allows her to use Overcharge, Call of Brine and other gen kicking perks to their fullest potential, meaning she can effectively hold games hostage.
Since Overbrine was nerfed, this problem no longer exists.
Fact: Her optimal playstyle (3-genning) is only able to be beaten by coordinated teams willing to waste half an hour of their lives
It's not rocket science to beat a 3 gen. There are killers like Nurse or Wraith where it is much more difficult to defeat a 3 gen. Strangely, my SM matches last between 10 and 20 minutes. And I pretty much only play Solo Q. If my mates fail at SM, they'll fail at any other killer as well. So it's not a Skull Merchant problem.
I enjoy playing Legion, but that doesn't mean that I don't recognize that they are also poorly designed
You think Legion is poorly designed, but you still enjoy playing them? That does not make sense.
So before you presume to describe a killer as objectively poorly designed, you should at least formulate criteria to support your assessment. But you didn't do that. Therefore, it ultimately remains your personal subjective opinion and nothing more.
I don't think you are looking at this objectively at all.
You've presented several blatantly false statements.
Honestly though, I'm just not interested anymore. This is a boring conversation, I've made my points, you've made yours and neither of us are going to budge, so I'm out

I would like to point out that those facts only prove that SM is a badly designed killer if the person you are talking to agrees with the opinion that a killer who heavily specializes in territory control is bad for the game.
One could in fact argue her design is very good since she's arguably the best territory control killer we've ever gotten. Our other two main ones are Trapper and Hag who aren't exactly amazing.
Do you not agree that SM and her ability to hold games hostage is bad design?

Then I am curious, what exactly are the facts that make her objectively bad? Because if she is objectively bad, you must have facts to prove such a point.
I appear to have not gotten the notification that you replied, apologies.
Fact: Her lore is bad. I've not seen a single person defend it and it's been meme'd to death. Even her Tome isn't looking good. I could've wrote something better for free.
Fact: Her power is only good at holding down specific areas of the map. This leaves her with two "viable" styles of play. Totem defender and 3-gens.
Fact: Her power allows her to use Overcharge, Call of Brine and other gen kicking perks to their fullest potential, meaning she can effectively hold games hostage.
Fact: Her power cannot be buffed without it buffing her aforementioned playstyles, I call this, Legion-syndrome.
Fact: Her optimal playstyle (3-genning) is only able to be beaten by coordinated teams willing to waste half an hour of their lives.
Fact: Without her 3-gens or totem defending, she's almost useless. She has a tiny amount of stealth and some of her add-ons make her function like Knight. Place Drone at loop, leave loop, repeat.
Fact: Her chase music is a 1 second loop.
She's the worst designed Killer overall. If you enjoy playing her, that's completely fine. I enjoy playing Legion, but that doesn't mean that I don't recognize that they are also poorly designed

I was bullied horribly too. Not much brings that feeling back more than a group of toxic Survivors. Before you say it is a me issue, people constantly say Killer is far more anxiety provoking than Survivor. Killer anxiety is not an uncommon topic discussed. I suspect this is why.
It makes total sense too. It’s not one team making fun of another, it is 4 people laughing at one person. If you have ever seen streamers or YouTubers play SWF they are often having a grand old time making the Killer miserable. Check out Aryun’s SWF Head On Squad video if you want to see an example.
If it upsets you that much, stop playing.
