As the Red Herring was in reply to this.

...I also may not be able to handle the idea that all the letters thus far were meaningless.

So MAYBE the res herring is indeed meaningless.

Yeah, I said it in another comment but, I'm super confused now. Are we still on the right path and they're just trying to make us second guess ourselves, are we just a bit off with one of the clues or just downright, coldheartedly wrong? I don't know but, I'm enjoying it for the most part. :)

It's really interesting because I never ingage in teasers because I find it pointless. But now I got to deep in this to just leave it aside.

Oh... I thought the S looked like the one from the welcome sign of Silent Hill. We got two clowns emoji. The A into a DBD graphics... Like, they're teasing different things to make us confused.

There is an horror character known to confuse people?

Probably, but generaly speaking a lot of horror movies make you think the killer is someone else

It does take a while to move files, but it should be worth it

OMG IT ACTUALLY STARTED DOWNLOADING SOMETHING and the blue bar is filled with an aproximation of 30-60 seconds left... So maybe not 4 hours, maybe just one or 2.

It does take a while to move files, but it should be worth it

Now the only issue is that I have to wait for the game to update, and as it currently goes, it won't finish in less than 4 hours. Update started at 0.0 MB/ 312.2 MB and it now reached 17.4 GB/ 17.712 GB, after continuously growing to 5 GB 10 GB, 15 GB...

  • @madamretto said:

It also takes quite a lot of time for me to update DBD. And what annoys me even more is that when you think the download is finished, steam says that files are corrupted or something. And in order not to get this error 4 by EAC when you launch into the game, you have to verify your files which takes time too 😡

For me EAC causes no issues. However, after any update, my game will crash or disconnect me for a day or 2.

Did you check in disk management to see if your new drive was there to be formatted they won't show up in bios or in file manager without being formatted so unless you formatted it with a windows cd you would need to check disk management first, load it up there then format it to start using it, if it has enough space you can even put windows on it then use it as your main disk and make your computer boot faster / start up faster but putting dbd on it will definitely see an improvement in updates and maybe even in game performance since it seems to heavily rely on hard drive

I did manage to make it appear and told steam to move DBD. A few steam folders and files have popped up in there but nothing within them. I guess all that's left is me waiting forever.

Touched a nerve, sorry to set you off.

First, this is an open discussion forum so people can pop in and say what they want. I could come in and say 'ooga booga boo' and that would be that. Whether you want to engage with me is your choice.

I use to have those long dl times when I was on my ps4 so I understand your pain. It took at least an hour if not more for the dl to finish. This was true for both overwatch and DBD (the main online games I play). I then got a ps5 and problem gone. Everything dl super fast, even if I missed a couple updates and my system is catching up. Its great and it makes me happy ^^

So maybe my point is you need an upgrade or some part does? I am not computer person but I would think a good pc can outperform a ps easily.

And I'm sorry to react like that. I'm a really impulsive person.

I think the issue is indeed the HDD, so I am planning to move DBD to my SSD. Although I'm not sure this will fix it, considering someone just said they have the same issue on an SSD.

  • @PsychoTron said:

    SSD>HDD

looked at my task manager after it was done downloading files and my SSD where DBD is installed was reading at 350MB/sec.

So after all these comments regarding SSD, I have finally found a way to make my SSD show up (after almost 2 years of having it). I will move DBD to the SSD after this update and hopefully future updates won't take this long.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

I rarely install games on my Steam, because I dont play many Games. However, every DBD-Update takes way longer than needed.

I dont know how big this Patch was today, but it took me a few seconds to download it and then around 30 minutes to install it. It was 100% downloaded, but the updating of the game took a little bit over 30 minutes.

The last two games I downloaded were 18GB and 36GB and if I remember correctly, both were faster done or at least not much longer (in regards to the 36GB-game).

And those two were installed on my HDD while DBD is on my SSD.

Exactly my issue! Here am I standing in front of my PC for 1 hour and a half with files yet to be downloaded, while any other 40GB+ game would have already been installed.

  • @bjorksnas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2417095#Comment_2417095

Other games have less complicated updates, download 1 gb of update ready and write 1 gb of update, dbd has lower total download sizes but massive amounts of information to read and write

So I still have my question about why after already 1 hour and a half no files were downloaded, but the update size increased to 5.3 GB with 5GB installed.

  • @FancyMrB said:

Took me 2 min but I have a ps5 and very good internet ^^

Takes me 2 hours but I have i7 8th gen and sadly an HDD, topped with a very good internet ^^.

Once more I have to mention that my internet is good and my pc is also very good. Once more I have to mention that any other game will update in 2 mins for me too.

Seriously people, refrain from replying if you don't bring something constructive to the thread. As it seems, a lot of people agree that DBD particularly takes much longer to update than other games, so flexing your impressive specs won't help anyone. As I saw from other threads that I've read, people with amazing specs also have this issue (and I personaly don't consider my pc and internet bad. Outside of the disgusting 8 GB RAM, everything is just super good. And those 8 GB come from the fact that laptops with more than that also come with more expensive and, from my point of view not necessary considering my current setup will pull at least 120 fps out of multiplayer games with insane graphics)

  • Oh hey, I came back to my PC and now I notice that the update is 5.3 GB big and I have installed 5.0GB. I am really confused at this point.

  • @unluckycombo said:

Hi! I used to have a similar issue.

The problem for me came down to having an SSD versus an HDD. I have great internet, yet many games (Including DBD) used to take many hours to update. (DBD used to just be the biggest offender since their updates are usually huge.)

Nowadays my updates take about 20 minutes tops since I swapped over to an SSD. Might help you out.

My laptop has both an hdd and an ssd. However, ever since I first installed windows, I never saw the SSD in my listed available drivers. I honestly don't know why.

  • @bjorksnas said:

Its because of the read and write speed of your hard drive, I have a 5k read and write ssd and the updates are usually done within 2 minutes for a bug fix and 3~5 minutes for a chapter or mid chapter depending on the size of the patch

before I had a hard drive with 200mb read and write and it took 20-30 minutes

But then I don't understand why any other game updates in 2 mins.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

It takes about 2 minutes for me, but then, my internet is really fast 😁

I hate how long it takes for a match to load.

And I can't consider my internet to be bad. I use an ethernet connection and I usually cap at 50-60 MB/s download speed on steam.

Oh didn't I mention in the thread a few times that any other game updates in 2 mins for me too, except DBD.

    Yeah.

It shows that the devs have a sense of humor like most human beings.

There are moments where you mustn't be funny. Such moments are when you are an official of a company while its main product is in a horrible state. In such a case you must be serious, not hilarious.

we made some compelling arguments for candyman, exorcist, hannibal lecter and ring

    Ring is pretty possible because...

S was the first letter, the 19th letter of the alphabet.

Then we had i, the 9th letter.

Then we had 8 As. That means 8 (A=1, 8A=8)

The ring was launched in 1998.

    Her name was Sadako.

First letter was S. Then we had caged Ace. Sadace.

Oh god where can my mind be taken to...

  • Any other game, steam updates in max 5 mins. Dbd for me always updates for I think 3-4 hours.

Probably because half of the time it doesn't even download stuff or have disk usage.

it's on a screenshot... has anyone checked if it's like that ingame?

It isn't like that in game.

  • The fact that this is in the patch notes while the community is fuming regarding console optimization and the amount of buggers shows some things.

  • We're gonna get some cheap attempt at thrilling us.

I bought your game with my money. Your game crashes, I get penalized..your game freezes, I get penalized. Player update error, I get penalized....now I'm up to 30 minutes. And it's not even my fault yet. So, why can't we quit when we want, they said so, huh??? I wonder if some half ass gamer has ever thought of actually reading the conditions and defying them. The devs don't care if their game crashes and you get the shaft. So, who do we get 2 give them the dk penality. If everyone quit buying items from the game, they'd fix it.

You... Dare... Say something about the OBVIOUS bad console optimization...

IT IS YOUR FAULT YOU DCer IT IS ONLY YOUR CONSOLE'S FAULT YOU RUINED THE GAME FOR OTHERS DEFINETLY YOU AND NOT THE POOR OPTIMIZATION

    (/s)

Don't expect people to agree that this is an issue. They don't optimize the game and punish you for it, don't dare to speak up.

  • Due to unforseen circumstances (PH booty was 2 smol), the console performance fox has been postponed.

  • I agree, because purple offerings are more common than a green BPS.

And if someone doesn't understand, there are 3 purple offerings you may get, and a whooping 24 green ones, if I counted well.

That means the chance for a specific green offering to appear is 24 times smaller than the chance of a green one to appear. And I'm pretty sure that if you divide the chance for purple by 3 you get more than dividing green by 24.

  • I haven't played dbd for 2 months so my survivor rank was 20.

I don't like grinding and the actual ranking system is just a grind. I currently have almost no black pip or lose pip matches (camping and tunneling are so frequent that I have a lot of matches that last 2 minutes out of which 1 and a half is just chasing). Yet, with those matches that I've been playing in the past 3-4 days I'm only rank 15. Guess what, rank reset comes soon and regardless of it I don't have the time and patience to grind for red ranks. I'm not sure but I think you need 85 pips for rank 1. With my current 1 pip per match situation, I need a total of 85 matches to go from rank 20 to rank 1. If a match, with q times added, takes 10 minutes, I need around 14 hours to rank up. However, I also like playing killer so I won't spend all my time playing survivor.

Now, I don't consider myself a rank 20 survivor. That's probably because when my teammates aren't genphobic I have no issue saving my teammates, looping for long periods of time etc. AND escaping. I can also do those things with genphobic teammates, the only issue is that even if I loop for 3 mins straight, the gen counter still sit at 5.

Everytime I've played with SBMM on, I had no issues escaping. I found my teammates being competent and close to my skill level. And same with the killer. Not a swinger baby, not a tunneling camper, not a sweaty god.

EDIT: as a proof to the fact that I don't play this game crazily, with my 1200 hours gained since 2016, I only am level 85 devotion 1. That probably means that in the last 3 years I've barely played the game so I never play enough to reach red ranks.

  • Not an addon pass. Change vanity mirror and tombstone piece and he is just fine.

Trust me, outside of these two addons that are respectively trash and godly, Myers has some of the most interesting and fun to use addons. He literally has soooo many playstyles just because of them. If he would get an addon pass, expect half of them to be "When leveling Evil Within, you send a firecracker into the sky and recieve 50 bloodpoints".

I'm not sure if you're mixing up your perks or not. Just in case Shadowborn is wider FOV, while Lightborn is immunity to blinds.

I was replying to someone else.

  • @DuneT said:

At least it is a situationally useful perk. Unlike its poor useless brother Shadowborn.

Although I wonder if it might not actually make it easier to become flashlighted, as it supposedly extends your field of vision?

I'm prettt sure blinds aren't based on what the killer sees (if that was the case I woudn't lose my eyesight ENTIRELY for a few seconds due to a 15 lumen flashlight pointing at my ear for 2 seconds).

Shadowborn is cool when you like big FOVs like me. I need it to play Nurse as an example. It gives me a far better sense of space.

But that’s the thing, the first person who DCd felt entitled to leave because the match didn’t go their way. Then everyone else felt entitled to leave because they didn’t even want to give it a try just because they thought it would be too difficult.

Myers camping you may not be fun(I agree), especially at five gens, isn’t really the problem. Your chicken teammates who are allergic to the gens are. If they’d power through them and give the killer their 1or 2 kills tops, the killer would be less likely to camp. The reason killers camp at 5 gens is because survivors feed into it. They know that the teammates will usually feel sorry for the hooked person and try for the rescue, which can often lead to 3 or 4k.

It sucks, but it is what it is. There will always be an unfun aspect to a game such as this because it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to balance 4 vs 1 while not making either side too strong.

However it is possible to make camping and tunneling far less rewarding. These are strategies that ruin the other side's fun and shouldn't exist.

As you said, it is hard to balance an asymetrical game, but it is even more so when you don't even try.

Try to explain Monstruous Shrine as an example.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

Nah, the biggest problem in this game is the sense of entitlement that people have and not being able to accept the fact that they’re not always going to win.

I'm fine with losing as long as I have fun. Just had a match in which our Yui suicided after getting caught first, Leon suicided too and Bill died soon after. I was left on a Billy 1v1. He chased me for 5 minutes while I was desperate for the hatch. He eventually got me when the map was left without pallets. I died, but I still left the trial with a smile on my face because that 5 min chase sure was fun. Lose or win, I still had fun.

Can't say the same about a game in which a Myers grabs me off the gen at 5 gens and I get facecamped while my team mates play Genphobia Locker Simulator 2021.

  • @JacksonWise said:

The biggest issue the game has is optimization, especially for console. None of the above matters if you can't even play the game to begin with.

That's not an issue I have so I can't relate, however I 100% agree it should be fixed. That is however still linked to my post, regarding the fact that devs don't adress fundamental issues of the game.

  • @Junylar said:

The main issue of the game is SWF. Basically nothing surpasses SWF in sense of being problematic for the game's balance. You can fight camping, counter slugging, play around tunneling, but you can't counter SWF sweatsquads on comms. Having one part of survivor pool playing in soloQ and another one playing with legal cheats in the same game makes it impossible to balance at all. Make survivors stronger - killers will suffer from SWF, make survivors weaker - solo survivors will suffer from killers. They just can't exist by the same rules in the same game and be balanced in any way.

The one way to balance this is by making solo Q as close as possible to SWF's power level, and buff killers alongside.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2409986#Comment_2409986

No, I didn't. I described a survivor in brown ranks trying to make it out of their asap. I am still able to do gens, cleanse totems and rescue off hook. Heck, I'd even take hits and get aggro if my teammates were semi competent. But If they keep going down in 3 seconds, what other options are there but to play like this?

Yeah I will definetly try what you said out. If I look at my builds, they usually contain perks that are based on my hope of a good team. But clearly I won't have one so selfish playstyles are the best ones.

  • @Bwsted said:

For as bad as soloq is, the rank 20 experience is the bottomest range of it. So, not really representative.

Regarding pipping, the requirements at that rank are really low. You will be able to move up, especially if you can loop.

The only issue is that my matches are either too short or I simply don't have anything to do in them for pips, since 5 gens and only 2 survivors isn't exactly a fortunate situation.

In these 5 matches I did manage to get a pip in 3 of them, namely the 2nd, the 3rd and the 5th. However those were very hardly gained pips considering the experience I had in them. Only me trying to shadow repair rises up a bit of the team's overall performance...

  • @xEa said:

I could say it gets better when you reach red ranks, but i dont wanna lie to you.

Exactly why I prefer killer. At least in this case I know it is only my skill that counts, so no wonder I have no issues.

  • @Tryandstopme said:

There are many other fun games out there that you can play instead of suffering thorough solo survivor.

Such as the Deathslinger game. Wonderfully fun 😀

  • @Clevite said:

Selfish q is a nightmare. I still enjoy it for the challenge. But depipping to AFK killers, tunneling, campers, or Dcing teammates, gen phobic tmates is a ######### joke.

But those few games where you get good teammates are still fun.

Yeah I had one a few months ago in the evening, my entire team was god and to be honest that really bumps up my self-esteem and skill. Whenever I know I have a good team, I do well myself too. Sadly those are such rare occurrences it's not worth the pain going through solo q.

  • @ciara1999 said:

Brown rank matches are always terrible, bring a selfish build to rank up, you gotta remember they're most likely new players that just hide in gens and stand in basement.

A selfish build have I brought in the last 3 matches. Still no good came from it.

Well I would say that the 1 frame tap of a gen without really losing any distance on the killer during a chase is bs in itself.

Sometimes there isn't even any animation to indicate the tap. The survivor simply runs by a regressing gen and the sparks magically stop.

That's a separate issue that I agree exists. However, as long as that is a thing، you can't deny people are able to do that in a chase.

  • @Junylar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2406399#Comment_2406399

You gain progress, that's how. The whole point of the perk is to protect against tunneling. If you have the luxury to stand still and heal yourself, or tap gens, you are probably out of chase already and free to go, that is, the "tunneling" is over. It was never intended to be used to gain advantage in any other scenario.

Because no one ever healed in a chase or tapped a gen in a chase I guess.

  • You are the type of person that will look at the price of a mansion, see $1,999,999.99 for it price, and happily buy it because it is just 1 million dolars. Screw the fact that it is only 0.01 dolars away from 2 mil.

With that aside, quit DCing like that. The penalties stack throughout longer time periods, they don't refresh every day.

  • I've been here since day -14 (I think, game wasn't on steam yet) and played since day 194. All the youtubers I watched taught me that arm waving means "come save me ffs". So that's what I learnt.

I later found out this was wrong. I only do arm waving when I see someone hesitate coming to save me and I just try to signal exactly the "come save me ffs".

  • @LordGlint said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2374962#Comment_2374962

Vanity mirror is garbage. He gives up being able to ever use T3 while also moving slower the whole match. That 16 meters is handy for mindgaming a loop, but the slower speed tends to mean less hits where you'd normally get them if you were your normal speed.

Yeah, exactly what I said lol.

  • Not OP if your team mates know what they are doing (not healing 4 mins after he got t3 as an example).

Myers doesn't need an addon pass, unlike what most people think. All he needs is Tobstone Piece (truly overpowered and unfair) and Vanity Mirror (m1 killer that can activate a 16m wall hack, after having to spend precious time to get it) changed and he's alright addon-wise.

  • The killer is now able to damage exit gates, causing them to regress at a speed of 2.5% a second.

This is how I would fix this thing if it were to be fixed.

  • Why does everyone ALWAYS do the same thing:

•OP: x thing is too strong (and it is a fair statement)

•Everyone else: your side has this y thing too strong, so no, don't complain about our strong thing.

Seriously, if something isn't balanced, it doesn't mean it should be left so because the other side has something as unbalanced.

Lightborn is the equivalent of "the killer no longer has addons if you bring this perk".
