Maybe but they shouldnt be trying to make them the same as swf is already considered a massive balance issue..plus..any info gain will help them as well so it's a tough issue to fix..hence why I would prefer it to require a perk instead of being base so at least itll be at least at a cost
Well I believe, and many others do too, is that the best way to balance this game is to bring solos up to the level of swf, and then buff killers accordingly. And while I can think of a ton of changes that could be made to help achieve this, I feel adding a totem counter is just one small little thing that could help solos out a little. But this is why I also think it should be baseline and not be added to small game. Why should solos have to bring a perk that swf already get for free? Why do people think punishing solos is the best way to balance survivors?

Except your not taking into account that all totems will almost always be cleansed so devour hope at least would be dead..huntess' lullaby shouldnt reveal it's in play anyway..totems need improvements not hard nerfs by giving survivors massive information..I get what your saying but itll affect totem perks both past and future negatively
Well I actually did take that into account if you read what I wrote for devour hope. And I agree that totems could use buffs in certain areas, mainly being more well hidden; the new badham maps being a great example of this. And again I’ve explained why a totem counter isn’t “‘massive information” for survivors but rather a healthy change for the game all around. The biggest reason being that it would help bridge the knowledge gap between swf and solos, which should be a huge priority for this game.

In fact it does because with a totem counter totems would always get found and would never work..throwing away some of the best perks killers have entirely because half their power comes from not knowing they exist..why do you think huntress' lullaby is barely used despite it actually being a decent perk on paper..? Because survivors know it exists as soon as they get a skill check and usually go hunting for it immediately ,
How does having a totem counter help survivors find totems? That’s what small game is for. And you kind of proved my point with huntress lullaby. Most survivors already know a hex is in play even without a totem counter, so adding one would have no impact on them anyways. Also even hex perks that don’t reveal themselves right away e.g. devour hope, you still nessacarily wouldn’t know it’s in play with just a totem counter. I mean let’s go one by one and see what impact a totem counter will have.
Hex Ruin: zero impact because survivors will know at the start of a match if it’s in play.
Hex Huntress Lullaby: Zero impact because survivors will know at the start of a match if it’s in play.
Hex The Third Seal: Zero impact because survivors will know as soon as they are hit that it is in play. And if they never get hit then it doesn’t even matter if they cleanse it or not.
Hex Thrill of the Hunt: Zero impact because survivors will know it is in play as soon as they try to cleanse a totem. Also not really a big deal if it doesn’t get cleansed.
Hex Haunted Grounds: Zero impact considering this is one killers want to get cleansed anyways, plus there’s two of them so it usually gets found early in the match.
Hex Devour Hope: Virtually Zero impact. Even if you see there are remaining totems there is no way of knowing that devour hope is in play, unless you see the hex for yourself, meaning it would get cleansed anyways.
Hex Noed: Now this is the controversial one, but here’s why I think it’s still fair. NOED’s job is to slow down the game by punishing survivors who don’t do their secondary objective. It’s not supposed to be a guaranteed way to get insta downs at endgame. Killers constantly say just do totems if you don’t want to deal with NOED and I agree, but let’s not act like it’s laziness that causes totems to remain. It’s the survivors inability to know whether any remain or not unless you are Swf. This problem of course would be solved with a totem counter. If survivors cleanse all five totems then NOED is doing it’s job by slowing the game down by survivors doing their secondary objective. If they don’t cleanse all five totems (which is still very very likely even with a totem counter) then you get to punish the survivors with insta downs. It’s a win-win.

Yes let's throw all totem perks down the drain by adding information to survivors that even the killer doesnt get without a perk-_- can you at least try to be non partisan?
A totem counter does not “throw away” every hex perk. In fact it actually has zero effect on every hex perk except for NOED. And if a totem counter does get implemented, obviously killers would get that information too.

Why is everyone in this thread so serious? Anyways OP I really like those ideas and personally would love to see mori animations become a new cosmetic addition to the store.
-
Honestly this tactic is super easy to counter anyways. As soon as you see the killer slash onto the hay bale just jump back through the window before they can slash towards you, then jump out other window and escape. Killer ends up wasting more time in my experience than if they were to just follow me directly.
-
Oooh these sound interesting. I wonder if undetectable will trump spine chill? Sorta like EW1 Myers? Also Oblivious sounds like a good way to counter BT.

You said killers are usually only toxic toward survivors. I asked who else would they be toxic toward if not survivors. There's literally nobody else playing the game.
Re-read what I said. I said killers are usually only toxic towards TOXIC survivors, meaning if survivors aren’t being toxic, the killer won’t be either. Usually anyways.

Who is there to be toxic toward when you play killer? You have no teammates.
Huh?

I will keep repeating this until I die, or until it gets added. Totem counter should be baseline and in HUD. Small game doesn’t need a buff, it will indirectly get buffed when totems become more hidden. The new badham maps are a perfect example of this, because finding the totems on that map can be actually very difficult.
-
It’s not just you, they are generally more toxic and there’s four of them so it multiplies. Killers can be toxic too, but usually they are only toxic to toxic survivors.... usually.
-
Totem counter should be baseline and in the HUD. Also I haven’t heard the devs say much about a totem counter other than they are considering it, but unsure wether to make it baseline or put it on small game. It was one of the questions they answered in the reddit AMA. I don’t think they specifically have said they don’t want to add it to the HUD.
-
BHVR are really really really bad when it comes to adding accessibility features to their game. Virtually no effort has been made to any of the things people have been constantly asking for. They should really take notes from Naughty Dog who are one of the best developers when it comes to accessibility in their games.
-
I’ve always hated legions power because it’s boring and feels like wasted potential considering their backstory, and ya know... them being a LEGION. Let’s give a group of killers the power to... run really fast? And only play one at a time? Lame.
-
David King 👑 and The Spirit.
-
It’s funny because calm spirit has actually been bugged for awhile now and people shouldn’t even run it lmao
-
Sorry that you actually have to try in order to win.
-
Get rid of collision so you don’t get stuck on the killer when you use it. That’s the only buff head on needs imo.
-
Because nurse/her addons are over powered even on console. With that said people shouldn’t DC, but I understand people who suicide on hook when your team is already getting destroyed. It’s not fun, you barely get any bloodpoints, and you’ll most likely derank anyways. Best just to move on to the next match.
-
I know it’s never ever ever ever gonna happen but I would love something silent hill related.
-
Ways I would change totems:
-Make totems more hidden. The new badham maps are a great example of this. Please just no more totems in the middle of fields. This will also make small game more relevant.
-Add a baseline totem counter. This will help bridge the knowledge gap between solos and swf and will encourage more people to actually do totem. That’s good for both sides in the long run.
-Make bloodpoints earned from totems count towards something other than boldness. Boldness is the easiest survivor category to max out so I wish I could get points in a less easy category. Maybe survival?
-
Because they usually sound like this: https://youtu.be/tt4DFExVsi4
-
Only on these forums would you actually see a post advocating for removing SWF option from the game.
-
I wanna do this so I can learn all the new badham maps. I get really lost on the new variations.

Putting a totem counter in the game would make all Hex perks worthless.
A totem counter would literally have zero effect on every hex perk except for NOED. And that would be arguably a healthy change.

During the AMA they said they want to add devotion rewards at some point but knowing how slow BHVR is, we probably won’t see anything for at least a year or so.
-
I completely disagree, but I agree 100%.
-
Oh wow I forgot about the crane lol. It was actually a pretty fun tile.
-
The sooner they buff solos to swf level, the sooner they can start looking at buffing killers. It’s a win-win.
-
i just wish they went back to weekly Q&As because I had a question I really wanted to ask but I was at work when the AMA was live...
:(
-
Agreed, especially since it’s only a 3 second stun, and you spend 2 of those seconds just trying to get around the killer.
-
Totem counter should be baseline, not added to small game. Small game will see more use when totem spawns become more hidden. Just look at the new badham maps; finding the totems on them is actually pretty difficult without it.
-
Killer gameplay is definitely much more engaging. Playing as survivor is literally mind numbing if you’re not interacting with the killer.
-
David just needs a rugby cosmetic and my life will be complete.
-
Remember when they used to release skins that weren’t all very rare skins? What happened to that? What’s the point of event having different rarity tiers anymore?
-
As a solo survivor getting all 5 totems is actually really tough when you have no way of knowing how many remain, unless you either cleanse all 5 by yourself or run around the map looking for destroyed totems, which obviously consumes a lot of time. On the other hand, swf groups will always know how many totems remain which means they have no right to complain about NOED. This is why I hope a totem counter becomes baseline as it would help bridge the gap between solos and swf and makes NOED less frustrating while still serving it’s purpose.
-
They most likely have decisive strike. Hoping into a locker forces the killer to grab meaning the survivor can hit their skillcheck without fear of being slugged.
-
Maybe they will implement this when the archive come. One can hope at least.

Survivors utterly defeated us killers, legion is now boring and with no personality. It's rework, even if fair, made legion into something pointless, I would have liked something fair and still fun.
Nurse is next, then you'll go after spirit.
What else do you want?
You guys managed to get the only real threat nerfed and you also expect us to shut up and say nothing?
You won, once again. Now let us express our sadness
Yes we have won this battle, but the war is not over. We will not stop until every killer is nerfed into the ground, including new Freddy! We will make you killers rue the day you ever decided to enter the fog. We will get payback for every survivor who’s ever been facecamped, tunneled, slugged, hooked, killed, sacrificed, hit with NOED or even looked at wrong. Just you wait the worst is yet to come, SURVIVORS RISE UP!

@ASpazNamedSteve said:
You really need to stop looking at things as if survivors and killers are 2 opposing sides in a war.
This is the best way to summarize some people’s mindset on these forums. It’s shocking honestly how biased some people are on here.
-
Yeah I was really sad to hear that, because closing the gap between solo/swf should be a top priority imo. Hopefully they have other ideas in mind.
-
I would want gestures that help with communication. So a “stay here” or “stop” or “shhhhh” gesture would be nice.
-
Or we could buff solo survivors to swf level, and then buff killers accordingly. This used to be a super popular idea I don’t know why it stopped getting suggested.

I think that should be part of small game rather than base survivor kit
But swf already have a totem counter for free. Having it be baseline would literally only help solos.
-
Adding a totem counter would be the perfect way to balance NOED imo.
-
You would only get one use out of it against survivors running distortion.... so I’m gonna have to say no. Besides bbq is one of the most balanced killer perks imo
-
Accessibility isn’t really BHVR’s strong suit.
-
My favorite is when people spell “queue” as “que”

Not going to go into it, but a totem counter would have a profound effect on "search times" and benefit survivors more than they obviously realize. This thread uses the "randomness of totems" as a gamble to justify its value, by having survivors know if all totems are done etc would technically speed up the game in their favor, but I dont expect people who only play one side to even understand how it would. In fact, the only thing good about ruin is it makes people run around to find it, hence its value in search time gained
hence Peanits saying in a thread about this, that if they would need to they would adjust totem times to balance it because, guess what, I am correct.
I don’t only play one side. Also I never even said I would be against adding this for killers, just that this would a bigger buff than if survs got a totem counter.
