Old ruin was effective at the point of the match where the killer has the least amount of pressure. New ruin is effective at the point of the match where the killer has the most amount of pressure. Yes, on paper, obviously new ruin is better, but in practice it isn't. If ruin wasn't a hex totem, you could argue that new ruin is effectively stronger, but as the match goes on, the chance of ruin being cleansed increases, so while new ruin is stronger towards late game, it has less of a chance achieving full effectiveness. Making the argument that new ruin is stronger is just wrong because that does not reflect the current usage of it nor does it reflect the intentions of the devs when they changed it. They changed it specifically to be weaker. This is the same reason why NOED is such a weak perk. Late game builds are not strong because of the unbalanced nature of the game, usually the game is decided way before late game. This is also why corrupt intervention is such a strong perk and widely used, as it is essentially the exact opposite of new ruin or NOED. You sacrifice a perk slot to get 120 seconds of better map pressure at the start of the game, this two minutes of increased pressure is enough to significantly increase win rates / killer effectiveness.
If you want to understand why early game pressure is so strong for killer, just play a lot of oni or billy. The faster you locate and down your first survivor, the faster you can locate the second survivor while the first is on hook and reduce gen progression by 300%. New ruin requires survivors not to be on gens in order for them to regress. Notice how after ruin was changed, it is now normal for 2 gens to be done before the first hook and devs had to change how emblems work to make up for how fast gens get done now.
Your explanation just doesn't stand up to the evidence we have.
Nope, in practice new ruin is still better. Again old ruin was only effective at low- mid ranks as good survivors and red rank swfs can hit skill checks pretty reliably so gens were still popping quickly. Old ruin was only effective against low ranks who would miss every skillcheck, gen tap, or run around the map for 10 mins looking for the totem. So again ruin didn’t give you much early game pressure against decent survivors... just run corrupt intervention it’s way better. Also again new ruin synergizes with other perks much better than old ruin would have. It rewards killers for playing smart and creating interesting builds and is overall much healthier for the game than old ruin was. So yes In practice it’s better, I’ve had much more luck playing with it than old ruin and it’s more fun to use and face.

No, ruin isn't stronger. The fact that old ruin was in effect at the very start of the game made it much stronger. The fact that killers have to physically chase survivors off gens in order to get ruin value makes it much weaker.
If you're looking at a spreadsheet and looking directly at values and effects, old ruin was weaker. If you actually play the game and understand the pacing of the game, old ruin was much stronger. Old ruin had an indirect effect of allowing the killer to find survivors a little quicker by encouraging them to try for great skill checks, this alone makes it much stronger.
It's probably best if you don't listen to the devs when they talk about the strength of things in this game. These are the same people that said clown was a very strong killer and that the playerbase just didn't understand his strength.
Nope you’re wrong. New ruin is stronger especially with high mobility killers. Old ruin couldn’t completely regress a gen that was at 95%... new ruin can. Old ruin wasn’t even an issue for good survivors because they could reliably hit great skillchecks. New ruin does it’s job as long as the killer is doing theirs. Pair new ruin with tinkerer or undying or surveillance and it becomes crazy strong. You get pressure through the entirety of the match rather than just a little bit at the beginning. New ruin is only “bad” if your playing a trap based killer that requires set up time, or if you just can’t end chases quickly. Old ruin was just a worse corrupt intervention, new ruin can be extremely deadly.

I mean... they made ruin stronger sooooo

Yes especially when survivors exploit the hook bug
Let’s be real, everyone abuses bugs when it works in their favor. I’ve seen plenty of killers “exploiting” the DS bug

Totem counter should have been added ages ago. I’ve made at least 2-3 discussion topics explaining why it’s a good idea

No because she already has to reload her power, it wouldn’t make sense.

Clickbait title that has nothing to do with the actual post...

I’m hoping it gets implemented soon because this is one of my most anticipated features... I’m tired of killers with bad ping getting free wins because they can hit you from across a football field
-
Mutated version of Vigo
-
I already saw this coming when the cosmetics were leaked... sets being arbitrarily linked for no good reason. For example the Jane skin; it makes sense why the dress (torso & legs) are linked together, but why can’t we buy the headpiece separately? It just feels very anti consumer to me... like we are paying the same price but getting way less value now.
-
Yeah it’s been extremely terrible (especially on Lerys and Ormond). It almost makes the game unplayable because I struggle to get a stable 15 FPS even on PS4 pro.
-
Because you’re playing selfish.....?? It should be pretty self explanatory why people would dislike this in a team based game.
-
@Peanits can we please start banning people who come to a thread just to say “bait” because they disagree with the OP? It adds nothing of value to a discussion and just continues to promote a hive mind mentality.

are you rly trying to compare apples with bananas ? That makes no sense
Please explain how I’m comparing apples vs bananas. The op is complaining about genrushing..... and that’s what my comment was about.
-
Oof sis you about to get so much hate. I wouldn’t mind it personally.
-
Is this thread seriously saying genrushing is just as bad as it was in 2016.............. is that seriously what you wrote??? 2016 Dbd.... where BNP fully completed a gen in one click, meaning 4 gens could be completed in less than 10 seconds..... I swear the vast majority of killer mains on this forum lack brain cells.

I think we need to be careful about how much information we hand over to survivors for free. A big part of the game is using what information you have to intelligently manage your time.
I totally agree solos need some love, but free info can really tip the balance.
It’s info swf already has. Solo q desperately needs some help and bringing them up to swf levels makes it easier to balance the game.

I have the same thoughts about it for the most part, although there are some very valid points out there. Namely:
- It's way harder to deal with solo where you can't ask the other people how many totems they did.
- The 'counter' to camping is to do gens and leave, but if you do that, you aren't cleansing totems and you risk a second person dying to NOED.
Granted neither of those are really unsolvable issues, the latter being fairly rare in my experience, but they are very fair points and I don't think they should be completely ignored just because you're alright with the way it works.
If you guys added a baseline totem counter, point 1 would be solved.

“Hi unbiased killer main here to say survivor OP and need nerfs, killers too weak and need buffs so I can 4K in my sleep.” ⬆️ 176 Vote Up
-
Its because sprint burst is boring, dead hard is fun to use as it requires good timing to pull off correctly and just feels more interactive.
-
A lot of the killers still fall for the whole -blind at the pallet and then run past them- tactic. I’ve noticed that it works a majority of the time, even without IW.
-
Playing killer is the easiest it’s ever been and I honestly wish that everyone was forced to play a match of 2016-2017 killer just to see what real suffering was like.

Hook struggle change

i don’t care that you broke your elbow
-
Why is DH for distance considered OP, but using SB for distance (which has even less counters) isn’t?
-
Ok so it’s pretty much confirmed that they are changing the struggle mechanic. Thank god finally it only took 4 years lmao

I'm not seeing this on the contraband website. Where was that stated? :o
Here are the screenshots:
Quick disclaimer: Pyramid Head hasn’t been confirmed to be a set but it’s extremely likely considering all the other Silent Hill cosmetics are sets.
-
If David’s new skin is a “set” I will actually cry.
-
Smaller plus cuter cosmetics. That’s it really.
-
Agreed. I bought bunny legion because those made sense to be sets but I’m not going to buy arbitrarily made set cosmetics that could easily be 3 separate pieces. It’s just so greedy.

Where did you find those
They are hidden in the background of the new redeem code screenshot that was posted in the developer update. All you need to do is raise the exposure and you can see them.
-
Might as well post this screenshot here as well for those who don’t know yet, but the upcoming Jane and Clown skins will also be sets.

Are you sure the Jane one is? I thought it was a Spirit and Clown outfit that were sets but the rest weren't?
Sorry I shouldn’t say confirmed, but it looks highly probable from this screenshot. While I would understand the dress (torso/legs) being linked, there’s no good reason why the head shouldn’t be able to separate.
-
Its already confirmed that the Jane and Clown cosmetics from the midchapter patch are sets. There’s probably gonna be more as well. Sets are going to become super commonplace unfortunately and will still cost $10 even though you are getting way less value from it.

I think most of us understand that. We just dont want it to be a common thing. I'd still prefer like 80% of cosmetics be split up. And maybe about 20% as Sets. I dont want to see a lot of sets personally.
And even then, there's still going to be disappointment when there's a new set and we like the head, or bottoms, but can't use it with our other cosmetics. Just seems like a lose lose situation everytime.
That’s gonna be the biggest problem, they are definitely going to oversaturate the amount of sets vs mix/match, calling it now. Sets should remain a super rare occurrence.

@PrincessPoop Don't get me wrong, I understand they need revenue. I just don't know that the bets way to generate it is by removing player choice, a key feature in a game designed around ever changing builds and metas. If any devs want to hear from me on alternative roots, I, like many other die-hard fans, would be delighted to take a crack at it. This is a wonderfully dedicated community and we all want to see the game flourish. Trust me, I plan on playing another few years AT LEAST. But I'd like to see these kinds of changes built on community feedback, rather than unilaterally decided with only revenue and content generation as factors in play. Extra skins sounds fun, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather wait a little longer and have the ability to choose, as a consumer, how I spend and on what. I love this new Nea skin, and BHVR would have gotten 800 cells from me, but I simply cannot justify the purchase with them
A) being locked together
B) spending on pants I don't care for.
Oh yeah don’t get me wrong I absolutely hate what they are doing. I was someone who defended the addition of a battlepass (and still do) but it just seems like they continue to add more and more ways to make the player spend more and get less.
-
BHVR says it’s so they can create more unique skins but I think they underestimate how much people like the whole customization part. But the real reason they are doing it is because set cosmetics are less effort to create since they don’t have to worry about clipping and they make more money since people are forced to buy the entire outfit instead of being able to choose a single piece.
-
I think giving survivors their own unique items that only they can use would be a cool way of making survivors different.
For example David could get a rugby ball and if thrown from a certain distance it would stun the killer.
idk about other survivors but I think new items would freshen up the game a ton
-
Yeah I’m really bummed that It seems sets are gonna be common place. Mix and matching is the best part of cosmetics and I don’t think playing $10 for a cosmetic you can’t even customize is a fair price.
-
@CronaWins said:
Creating sets has nothing to do with making unique skins as they claim, and is all about making more money. It's literally designed to force you to pay full price for the full 3 piece set that isn't custimisable, instead of letting you choose certain parts for a lower price.
Oh, and there is nothing 'unique' about that set. It looks average.
Yeah that was my issue with Neas cosmetic. It looks cool but it definitely looks like it could be split up with minor adjustments. So it really does feel like they only made it a set to force people to buy the full outfit.
-
They should be eventually yes
-
I really really hope they don’t go overboard with these sets.... I know that for me personally I will be MUCH less inclined to buying set cosmetics so they would really have to wow me in order for me to consider it.
-
David is honestly such an interesting character. He has this super aggressive nature and a dark past that makes him very intimidating to others, but underneath that all he’s still a person who wants friends and companions and is willing to do his best to help them. He’s someone that would be hard to like at first, if at all, but once you get close to him he would be a super loyal friend and someone who would always have your back.
-
There’s no official release date for the new tome and mid chapter patch yet. The current tome ends in 5 days.
-
There were a lot of really funny and endearing ones, but I gotta go with Nikkis Kingfield quote. Its nice knowing one of the devs likes your fav ship 😊
Also funny enough I’m pretty sure she fulfilled her mission since someone made an entire archive of every single piece of kingfield art and sent it to her lmao
