Side note, I don't get the point of sour candies. It's like sugar-free chocolate, you're taking out the whole point of the concept of candy.

The way I see it, I play killer, I like to slash, hook, kill and if I'm hag.. eat their hearts out. Enjoying these virtual actions is quite disturbing as well as problematic... and who knows what that says about my own and other's psyche. *Spooky music* 😱
An LGBT character being in the game is seriously NOT problematic. Think about it people! Some of you need some self-reflection in your lives.
This is completely wrong and I'm honestly surprised they allow people like you on the forum.

That's the thing though, the term "Nazi" propaganda and luckily, since we won we've kept it up ever since, the term "nazi" in my opinion, is still one of the greatest pieces of media propaganda in my opinion, their writers did a great job in making iconic and infamous an synonymous with being terrible human beings.
Nazis did that all on their own, though. It's like saying puppy murderers are victims of media propaganda that made them synonymous with terrible people.

I just realized what you said, the nazis didn't really call themselves nazis, that was the British Empire at the time, and obviously the U.S, the nazi is a derogatory term to their movement basically meaning peasant, or a stupid & clumsy person, (both were thought to be similar at the time.
[shrug]
It's still what they're known as, because the full name is disingenuous. This goes right to what I said before, about extremists being dishonest by nature.

My god.
I'm not portraying anything. I'm telling you "ey, when those guys say that, they feel that way, and they think that thing. Maybe if you talk to them with that in mind, if you address that point and you treat them as human beings and not some kind of monsters, then you can make them change".
What you said was that "I was giving them a place to express themself". And this is the dangerous part. The part when you decide if someone can express himself or not.
There is no reason to be against LGBT inclusion that does not also apply to heterosexual inclusion or isn't something that the devs have already done, unless it's based on homophobia.
If you want to prove me wrong, then by all means, produce an argument that won't apply to something that's already in the game and/or heterosexuals.

No dude, I mean being overly stereotyped, you could still hold some stereotypes for fun, but if they hold all of them, then that's becomes their defining trait, like its kinda unrelated, but Troy in "Community" starts out as jock who makes friends with Abed (a stereotypical nerd), but as time passes and becomes clear that Abed would be getting more development than Troy, Jeff Winger literally says "Your identity as a man, is defined by your friendship, with another man." What is it with you guys always trying to dumb down everything I say, like dang I could write a paragraph and someone just responds to 1/3 of what I said.
You need to hit the Enter key more often and break up your text. Nobody likes to read walls of text.
You can't complain that people don't read what you write when you don't even make the most basic effort to convey your thoughts in a legible manner.
-
This is why I take long breaks from the game from time to time. If it's no longer fun, then I don't play it, end of story. It's not complicated.

I know social issues are ok, I said "focusing MORE" on social issues than character development, I didn't say you can't talk about them, just make sure you're actually writing the character for the character, and not an agenda by the end of it.
And I said social issues are a form of character development. Social activists exist, you know. Look at Yui.

I'm just saying this is why there's an argument, it's the same thing but reversed on both sides because it works both ways, we will never have everyone on one side
It doesn't work both ways, though, because one side already has their representation. It's only non-heterosexuals that do not have representation, and flimsy arguments like yours are being used to try to stop that representation.

Oh yea I was waiting for that. Because seeing someone as a human being and talking to them is something horrible. If they have an opinion you consider is bad they should be silence. Because instead of letting bad ideas come out to light and then pointing and them and telling them "NO YOU ARE WRONG" we should ban them from everywhere.
Instead of givingthem the chance to change their opinions and talk to us, we should ban them because we are the gods of truth.
Instead of studying and understanding those ideas, we should just ban everyone talking about it
Instead of letting bad people show up so we know who they are, we should let them lurk into an echo chamber so their ideas keep growing up, like worms in the shadows.
And, of course, everyone with a bad idea should not have the chance to express it. Because all animals are equal but some are more equal than others. And I guess that you will tell everyone else what is a bad or a good idea, and you will decide who can or can not express themself in public.
Your authoritarianism is terrifyng.
Paradox of tolerance. Your ideals assume everyone's being honest, but extremists are dishonest by nature. They use dog whistles, doublespeak, and so on, and they hide behind flimsy excuses like "it's just a joke" when they say something that shows their true colors.

Alright here's an example, having the person be a drag queen and fit and all/most gay stereotypes with a poorly written character description that focuses on more addressing social issues rather than character development, consider Adrian in "The mist", he's a bi boy with the least amount of character development compared to the other main characters and yet he's the sexualized one sexually assaulting a boy that bullied him and ######### his girl best friend at found in the end, he felt really sexualized, it felt wrong. Now consider Robin from Stranger things, or the teacher from the one Kevin Hart movie about him getting a GED, both are gay, both have some character development, both are funny, and both help advance the plot of the story, and being gay isn't their defining traits, it's just their orientation, which is fine by me, as long as the character development is there.
So now let's wait and see which the devs go with before judging, alright?
Also, social issues can be a part of character development. People get involved with social issues all the time. It just sounds like you don't like social issues to be mentioned at all.

I mean, it's just an obnoxious storyline tbh, heterosexual or not. I'm not a big fan of their relationship, but I'm more into it for the origin of the legion as a group.
If it had been the exact same but with a homosexual relatuinship, my opinion would probably be the same.
And yet, nobody complained about that tome shoving their heterosexuality down our throats.

Because it's political if it's forced down, same applies if some guy made a game about glorifying national socialism or stalinism, it's not just forced gays I'm against, but also many right-wing ideas, i guess I just hate politics as a whole when talking about extremes.
Define, precisely and explicitly, a way in which an LGBT character could be added that you wouldn't feel was "forced".
PS: You can say Nazism, there's no need to use the full red herring name they gave themselves.

Appart from the nurse, and maybe legion, which tome exactly is "shoving" heterosexuality down your throat?
Out of all the characters, I'm pretty sure there's like 5 or 6 confirmed or very probable straight characters.
Nurse, Felix and Oni are confirmed, as they all married someone or/and had a son.
Ace's cosmetics make a lot of references to "The ladies", so yeah...
Then there's... Julie and Frank?
There, that's it. No one else appart from that, since licensed characters don't really count here.
Legion's tome is just the relationship of Frank and Julie. Read it, and then imagine it's about two same-sex characters. How is that not shoving it down our throats?

Just because it's a free country doesn't mean I have to agree with you, and you're missing the point, trump is a man who actively threatens trans people's rights, while Biden is actively advocating for their empowerment with one of his secretaries and sports policies, the problem, is none of you want to admit it, and you're missing the point. You said that being LGBTQ isn't political, but it is, otherwise people wouldn't worry about being cancelled for saying something homophobic, but ya'll won't ever see that, and that's why even as a supporter of Biden, I could never fully understand you.
You said that being LGBTQ isn't political, but it is, otherwise people wouldn't worry about being cancelled for saying something homophobic
Being LGBT is no different from having a certain skin tone. You can't wake up one day and decide not to be white or black or whatever any more than you can decide to have a different orientation. It is not political for people to exist just because they have certain characteristics that certain groups dislike.
As for being "cancelled", that's called capitalism. If a company decides you are a detriment to it, they can terminate your employment to protect their bottom line.

Because it was an easy plot to write? Husband lumberjack. Wife housewife. Husband dies. Wife has to get a job. Wife goes mad. The end. Try to write a plot this simple for lgbt.
Replace "husband" with "wife" (or vice-versa, if you think women can't be lumberjacks). Done.

Then yes, I agree with you, a gay character should be added, I think folks like me were just concerned they were gonna add a drag queen as the representative of all gay folks, when most gays I know look normal (i.e little to no makeup), and the reason? Being gay isn't their defining trait, and the devs accidentally doing that is what some people like me are thinking might happen, but if they can pull a Yui and just HEAVILY imply their gay, then that's fine, more power to gays, and hopefully some bomb perks while they're at it.
Why would BHVR have to imply they're gay when heterosexuals get explicit confirmation, though? Let's treat people equally, shall we?
-
@[Deleted User] said:
If it's not BHVR should get ahead of the game and tell people it's not.
Because people are so sure it is they are going to be fairly disappointed if they are told it's not last second/only when revealed.
They only have themselves to blame. BHVR never said this chapter would include LGBT characters.
-
BHVR had already announced they were going to be less exclusive, since they had had heterosexual lore in the game for years. Why would you respect them for going back on their word?
-
@Jed said:
Wait so a person cant like something or be apart of something unless it represents them? Ok so why are any of the people complaining about lack of representation playing the game at all? Why did they even start playing the game in the first place if it lacks this representation thats now so important and must be added to the game or else? If this representation isnt added in enough (or good enough) then that means BE is discriminating? I dont know I just thought this was a game about iconic killers and survivors in a deadly game of hide seek.
Who said any of these things? It just feels forced not to have LGBT relationships when heterosexual relationships are already in the game.

Ok if you say so. But something that's been making them millions for the last 70 years, why would they all of a sudden stop selling 2 identical dolls to only selling 1, knowing their profit will most like take a hit lol
Will it, though? That's the same logic Sony uses (used?) to deny their players crossplay on their platform. They think that if their platform is more restrictive, people will buy it so that they can all play together.
The way I see it, this will increase their profits because people will now buy one "main" doll, but at the same time they'll get a lot more accessories, since they can now be used regardless of whether you got Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head.

Why are people debating about in game characters, that doesn't effect the real world we live in. Kinda sad. People need to stop being snowflakes. I heard a story today about Mr potato head having Mr removed from his name so it can be gender neutral, like really. And people wonder why there is so many people around the world with so much anger built up. The fact is hate will never be rid off, as the media is making sure of that.
You heard fake news. It was a change to the product (not the character) so that it became more customizable. Parents will no longer have to buy two virtually identical toys, they can just get the one and kids add whatever they want to it.

That's the thing though, that's not what a lot of people are asking for, they want a character that is explicitly LGBTQ, the difference is with the some the characters you mentioned like David and Ace, is that it's implied; not confirmed nor denied, which is why both of them still have gay fandom for gays that are into that. A lot of characters might have silly outifts, but that is because they are OUTFITS, not defaults, I mean the closest modern political character I can think of in Dbd is Yui because she fought against what her father wanted her to do, ultimately did what she wanted, which is more important in the end. She wears pink as the color of her women's empowerment group (the colour of feminism), beats up a deadly stalker (another real women's issue), and if even painted as brave and determined even without a partner (she's a strong, independent woman). Also remember, Yui is Japanese and up until recently, Japan was easily a conservative country; like all around, so in real time it was likely that a lot of people wouldn't like her because she goes against the norms. But with her story is portrayed, it doesn't really feel forced, hers is like an artist splotching circles to make a custom picture, what people here SEEM to want though, is the devs going out to the store to buy a picture themselves because they don't want a custom picture.
That is what people are asking for. This claim that "oh, maybe they're not actually straight" is absurd and you know it. Nobody assumes those characters are not heterosexual if they have had explicitly heterosexual relationships.
-
@Knobhead420 said:

Then fine, start specifying that David is more than likely straight since he'd more than likely beat people or chastize them for being gay, or just because Yui is a feminist then doesn't mean she's gay, I mean, as a straight person I always see how holes like that in fanfic, but that's why it's fanfic no one cares, your just allowed to believe in whatever you want and everyone can be happy without having a "truth" shoved down your throat because it's "canon".
That ship has sailed long ago.

I don't give a #########. Most people don't give a #########. Leave it up to your imagination instead of rubbing it in everyone's face. Dbd does not explicitly say that all the characters are straight. So why do you assume they are? Why do you want a character to have a whole ass bio talking about how gay they are? I don't care and idk why this is such a big issue
We're all adults here, so let's talk like adults. You don't assume a character is anything but straight unless explicitly stated otherwise. In fact, nobody does, because the vast majority of characters in fiction are straight (and disproportionately so).
There were no complaints about the Legion's tome, which could just as easily be called "The romance of Frank and Julie and also some other Legion members are here", and that tome was just constantly shoving their heterosexuality down our throats. The only difference is that, now, we might be getting an explicitly LGBT character.
There is no argument that can be used against this that doesn't also apply to non-LGBT characters or is rendered moot by the fact that the devs have already done it for non-LGBT characters. Seriously, try to come up with one.
