Because these days when people play games, watch TV and read comics they are always for some reason thinking about identity politics when we all know any form of media that gets woke goes broke. I mean Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Marvel & DC are all examples of things that put identity politics before making their movies, shows or comics actually good. I suppose it's fear of being cancelled but let's be honest people that are a part of cancel culture on twitter are extremely sad, lonely & bored individuals who have nothing better to do other than attack people thinking they are doing a justice when they aren't. I mean in reality cancel culture does nothing but make people sit there and laugh at the people cancelling others. Rick And Morty, Chris Pratt, Dominos, Attack on Titan are all examples of things that were cancelled for no reason and afterwards after the sane individuals had sat and laughed everything went back to normal.

None of those things were cancelled, the MCU made billions of USD, Doctor Who is still going strong, DC was already in decline, Ghostbusters was a failure from the start, which is unrelated to the cast.

"Get woke, go broke" is not real. Wonder Woman, Black Panther, and more, all prove it's fake.

I'm not making a thread about it, I don't care nearly enough and neither should you if you want to live with decent values

I don't care about it, no. I'm just saying that those people are always obsessing over identity politics.

  • So it'd be a Frankenstein scenario? I doubt it, they could just literally include Frankenstein, I'm pretty sure Shelley's work is in the public domain.

Look it's a character is a game which people only play because of there perks and ability to camouflage. Let's stop bringing race into it because in reality it doesn't matter it's a video game not a political movement.

How do you avoid race when your characters are human beings? And why is a character being black or not "political"?

  • Yes. Not in DbD, obviously, but when LGBT characters started being introduced, they were almost exclusively villains.

i think thats what most people are hoping i have faith in bhvr not to make this character a token

Some bad faith actors will definitely claim the character is a token no matter what, though. They did the same with Claudette back when she was the only black character. The only way they won't claim this character is a token is if there are more LGBT characters, the same way nobody claims Claudette is the "token black character" any more.

  • I hope not, because that's way overdone.

The classic never ending cycle you'll see it everywhere. All shapes and sizes. Even in this game though obviously nowhere near as significant as the one you mention. The whole toxic survivors creates toxic killers creates toxic survivors etc. Homophobes and racists, cause more vocal about sexuality and race creates more homophobes and racists etc.

This is not a chicken and egg situation. If you study history, you can see which came first. Why do you think we went from Romans and Greeks, who were accepting of all orientations, and some older cultures that even had a third gender, to now? Because I assure you, nobody made a big deal out of these things back then.

  • I also find it ironically amusing because homophobes, racists, etc., are what drive people to be more vocal about sexuality, race, etc., which they supposedly hate.

  • @GravyRobbers85 said:

How about we just quit promoting cultural Marxism? Be happy with what you have. You want equality, but you only want it when it's convenient for you.

Just leave race religion and sexuality out of gaming. Nobody wins nobody loses, if you don't like it, uninstall.

That's impossible if your characters are humanoid and also restricts a lot of artistic freedom.

And those ignorant people are the ones you must distance yourself from if possible. As the old saying goes "sticks and stones may break my bones...blah, blah, blah" never let other people break you with their words. For they only have as much power as you enable them to have. There are people out there who care not for the sexual attractions you have but the qualities that truly matter like empathy, kindness, politeness etc. Those are the people you must find. And keep close to you. They will bring the true person out in people.

"if possible". In some countries, or some regions of some countries, it's not possible. That's just the way homophobes are, they can't live and let live.

  • @GrimmReaper said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1978120#Comment_1978120

Glad to hear that is the case. There are many qualities that define us and who we are attracted to is not as significant as the rest of what makes us, us. In my opinion that is.

Depends on where you live, I suppose, since other people also shape us to some extent. If you're LGBT in a heavily homophobic country, your orientation is going to be the main thing other people will focus on, which in turn will be the main thing you will focus on. If homophobes stopped making such a big deal out of who other people like or what they do in their bedroom, we'd see fewer people like the ones you referred to.

  • Freedom of speech is not freedom of consequence. That's not what "freedom of speech" means; it means to be free of governmental censorship. You will still be judged by society, like everyone else, and private entities do not have to give you a platform for your speech, nor do they have to keep you in their employ if they feel you are a detriment to the company because of your "opinions".

yeah, and while we are at this red/Ginger hair people make up less than 1 % of people.

so Meg and Sally should be deleted from the game, there is really no reason for them to be in DbD!

also the Entity doesn’t pick randomly but he picks people that fit into what he wants, they need to be strong willed, hopeful, caring for other (if it’s survivor), emotional, having gone through struggles in life etc. LGBT people often do fit those criteria very well.

This, so much. Believing that DbD's survivors are random samples of society just shows one simple fact: he doesn't read the lore. And if he doesn't read the lore, then having an LGBT character won't affect him.

Not what I am saying at all.

Why is the team that deals with making the game ya know work... getting less support.

It's not. Look up survival bias and what happens when QA finds a bug in any normal development team. It doesn't work like you seem to believe.

More effort needs to be put towards the balance and bug fixes.

Yes, they do. I have one on my friends list and I can guarantee you she has more hours than any DbD player in the world can even hope to achieve.

The LGB population make up 7% of the world. The T less than 1%. 7%/1% of the population don't need to be in 100% of media.

That's an unfair comparison and you know it. Each TV show, movie, book, etc., isn't comprised of a single character. In the few that do have LGBT characters, it's usually one character out of hundreds, perhaps thousands of others. That's not proportional in the slightest.

Other groups of people don't comprise 100% of the population either, but they are virtually omnipresent in media, yet it's only LGBT that you have a problem with. Why is that?

  • @DBD78 said:

I don't like that you are forced to accept every "modern" political thing in our society, or you will not be accepted. We should all have our right to freedom of speech and people should respect different opinions.

And do understand that I don't say I'm positive or negative to anything, just saying if everyone have their right to their religion, sexuality etc you should have a right to any political view also.

You should look up "paradox of tolerance". Also, you are free not to accept things, just as people are free to exclude you for not accepting them. A gay person doesn't have to passively accept that someone else is homophobic and pretend like that's not an issue.

Felix was not mentioned to me previously please expand on that.

Legion is a whole different animal as we're talking about 4 different people in 1 role, and in my mind they are in a crazy pansexual relationship with each other anyways.

As for David i established my skepticism based on 1 old relationship, I've known lesbians who had relationships with men and gays who have had relationships with women. So i dont believe that pins him in the straight catagory, although you do which i find intriguing.

Legion is a whole different animal as we're talking about 4 different people in 1 role, and in my mind they are in a crazy pansexual relationship with each other anyways.

You should read the lore before speaking about the lore. There's a whole tome dedicated to Frank and Julie's relationship.

Like I said before, we're all adults here, so let's be frank with each other. You don't believe that someone is anything but heterosexual if you see them dating someone of the opposite sex unless you already know them. In fact, nobody does. So no, it's not "intriguing" that anyone would assume that Frank dating Julie means they're heterosexual, it's just what everyone does.

My views on this post are neutral, I don't care what they add to this game or what the other players do in their lives or anything like that is not my business. Like I say I got urge to post so I did it's hard to resist when think of something then just act on it without thought of any repercussion. Like I say is like repeating a word multiple times because thought of it or opening closet multiple times, I'm not fully in control of this.

I think you should do some introspection, because nobody says "I'm not the one with the problem" (paraphrasing) without meaning to imply that the other person is the one with the problem. You should also try to get some help for impulse control, before it becomes a problem. Just my two cents. Good luck.

Ok as far as i know we agreed that sally is the only definitive hetero relationship in the gameso i dont know where that came from

We did not agree on that, no. I already quoted David's heterosexual relationship, for example. In fact, every explicit relationship in the lore has been heterosexual. So why do you suppose people might want a non-heterosexual relationship, for once?

  • My bad, you didn't explicitly say it, but you did heavily imply it, since you kept insisting that you weren't the one with the problem (despite nobody saying you had a problem). And then there's this comment:

  • @kingcarl2012 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977141#Comment_1977141

I will just jump straight to my end point here.

As it stands character sexuality and gender identity is vague and not definitive, which i think is a good thing it lets anyone create their own identity for any character. I can say that Nea is trans, Dwight is gay, or Kate is a lesbian and i cant be proven wrong because it is my belief and there is no actual definitive evidence to prove that assessment wrong. We can disagree and have a discussion but in the end each person decides their interpretation of each character. This is actually a very inclusive way of doing things.

If they now change pace (and im not saying they cant), they are going to be creating a character that some people will feel alienated from because they lose that ability to craft that character identity that they have been able to with other characters.

Basically i would say that a policy of vague inclusivity is better than certain alienation.

That ship has sailed long ago, yet nobody complained when it was about heterosexual relationships. It's only become a "problem" now that it might not be about heterosexual relationships.

because i go by what history has shown. And history show the vast majority of companies do it poorly.

"The squeaky wheel gets the grease", have you heard that expression before? There are good examples of LGBT representation, but those don't generate the same clickbait-y headlines and articles we're all used to seeing being spread around by people with questionable motives. I could use those to extrapolate how DbD will be if and when BHVR adds the first explicitly non-heterosexual character, but I'm not, because BHVR is not the same company that created those other characters.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977159#Comment_1977159

Not exactly, those other games i mention do what DBD does now for straight people, but when they get their gay character, they do the things i said. History has show that many companies do that and pander and create the "token" character. I'm not saying that is what BHVR is going to do, but since we don't have evidence of it, i can only go off of history, and other companies that seem to handle straight relationships well, don't handle other ones well.

You could go off of this game's history, though. Instead, you're choosing to extrapolate from the worst examples. Why is that?

  • @Raja said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977141#Comment_1977141

Hmm? No I don't understand. Like I say I am not thinking on any character in any type of caring way. There is difference between being invested in story and how it play out vs spending time wondering about non existent things a made up character is doing, I don't sit and ponder what type of dog the shape digests or anything like that.

So you don't care about characters. Again, that's your personal preference. Other people want to know the characters' backstories and find them interesting, like Harry Potter.

After a casual look I'll give you Sally although, after her husband died is there any mention of her taking another man, if not thats slightly presumptuous but fair.

Listen, I'm not gonna pretend that heterosexual people are a minority, so I would appreciate it if you (and everyone else) would also not pretend that you actually think a character who was in an opposite-sex relationship (or one with no explicit relationships) might not be heterosexual. We're all adults here, presumably, so let's act like it.

I couldnt find any reference on the main wiki page that indicates Ace or David though.

Ace is obviously a stereotypical "ladies man" (funny how that stereotype doesn't cause this many complaints, whereas even the possibility of a stereotypical LGBT character is apparently too big a risk to even include LGBT characters, but I digress). However, I will concede that there's no explicit mention of him being with a woman. I've already quoted where David's ex is mentioned, though.

    @Raja said:

Well I play all kinds of games, if you named a story based semi open /open world game I have likely played. Dbd story to me is like someone found a book but upon opening it the pages are in random order. The tome memories are like dragon age books boring and lifeless and the stories what are they??

If they made the memories voiced still images like in yakuza 0 it would have been better but even then from the tome I did do all it tells me is about David King beating random men up and wasting his money and next tome they don't continue david story.

So you do understand why people would care about "the sexual orientation of pixels". Why were you saying you didn't?

    @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977086#Comment_1977086

@Orion This is generally what i mean. No characters really explicitly call it out, and those that do, it isn't really central to their character. Sure Sally had a husband, but is her "straightness" a main part of her character? No. But my point is, when they make someone NOT straight, it's going to be some huge part of their character, rather than just being another fact about them.

No LGBT lore has been added to the game, so your argument is moot because it boils down to "it could be anything, so it will be bad". My argument is based on what the devs have written previously, which you yourself so perfectly demonstrated is quite effective at keeping the readers focused on things besides exes and loved ones.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977042#Comment_1977042

Ok perfect, let's take a look at David's main lore (not the tome) first. For reference, i'm using the wiki: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/David_King

The single child of a wealthy family, David King seemed destined for greatness. While growing up in Manchester, he demonstrated serious potential in both sports and academics, and with his family connections, all doors were open to him. He could have succeeded at anything, if it weren't for his combative nature. David lived for the adrenaline rush of a good fight and would go out of his way to get into one.

His robustness and athletic abilities led him to rugby, where he could cut loose and really cause a ruckus. King excelled and gained a reputation as a promising, if somewhat reckless, rookie. His meteoric rise came to an abrupt end when he lost his temper and assaulted a referee, earning himself a lifetime ban from the league and cutting short what most people assumed was going to be a long, successful career. King was unconcerned; money was no issue, so he took it as an early retirement and focused on other fun things to do.

Free from the constraints of a career and enabled by the wealth of his family, David King spent most of his time at the pub, drinking, watching games, and getting into fights. Some might say he was wasting his life away. Not many people knew that he was an occasional "debt collector" or that he fought in clandestine bare-knuckle fight clubs.

When David King stopped showing up at the pub, the few friends he still had were not surprised. They figured he had finally picked a fight with someone stronger than he was. In a way, they were right.

Nothing here indicates that he is straight, it comes from the tomes here: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Tome_II_-_Reckoning#David_King:_Manchester_Mash-Up

Now, looking at the short bit of lore above, what do we know about David?:

    • He doesn't have any brothers or sisters
    • He comes from a wealthy family.
    • He is from Manchester.
    • He is very athletic and also smart.
    • He is aggressive and has an anger problem.
    • He is an adrenaline junkie.
    • He played rugby.
    • He once assaulted a ref during a game and because of that ended his career
    • Afterwards he started getting into fights on the street and in clubs.

now, unless i'm missing it, i don't see anything that indicates that he is straight, either here, or in the tome.

His ex has moved on and she doesn't want to see his face.

From Memory 341. The fact that you completely glossed over it proves that the devs know how to keep the focus on the more important tidbits, which is what I've been saying all along.

  • Please, produce evidence of this supposed harassment. Last I heard, one developer had a conversation with one person who made some good points. However, I have been gone a while, so maybe some evidence of harassment came to light.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977035#Comment_1977035

Let me put it this way. I don't actually know because i don't follow the lore closely enough so i'm asking so we can start a discussion, not as like a "gotcha"

Can you name one character that has lore that specifically calls out that they are heterosexual?

Off the top of my head? Sally, David, Ace.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977028#Comment_1977028

Like, if the character they make says anything in their lore other than (He had a Husband named James) or something, then it's going to be the sole focal point of their personality, rather than just being part of it. Which to me, is worse than not calling it out specifically.

How is a casual mention of a same-sex relationship (y'know, like how they do it for opposite-sex relationships) that focuses on the more important aspects of a character's backstory worse?

  • @Raja said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977004#Comment_1977004

People are welcome to their beliefs. I find strange, does not mean I have "problem" or are mocking on others beliefs. I believe the characters are like blank canvas, the individual players paint their story, my ghostface is just video game pixels, your ghostface can be pixels with sexuality, favorite food or whatever.

So you prefer headcanon to real canon. That's fine, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

    @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1977028#Comment_1977028

That's not what a certain type of person might say.

But the point i'm making is they don't really "handle" heterosexual relationships, because they aren't really part of the game in any way.

But the point i'm making is they don't really "handle" heterosexual relationships, because they aren't really part of the game in any way.

They're a part of the lore, just like non-heterosexual relationships will be. Seem to me they're handling everything just fine.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/230556/the-lgbtiq-thing

For me, its that i don't think they will do it well based on how people are asking for it.

The reality of the situation, is that this is a game where the lore is about an evil entity (godlike being) kidnapping people and torturing them over and over again. Sexual orientation doesn't really play into that. And other than a handful of characters that are explicitly stated to be so where it talks about a man having a wife or vice versa, we don't actually know the status of most of the other characters in the game. The fact of the matter is, we might already have an LGBT character but just not know it because the lore doesn't explicitly call it out.

The fact that everyone just ASSUMES that we don't have an LGBT character because it isn't explicitly called out is literally problematic. You are ASSUMING the default status of everyone unless otherwise stated is straight. My worry is that when they finally do "make" an LGBT character that the "progressive" people are going to want, it is going to be some ridiculous hyperbolic version of that character where for no reason other than pandering they have to broadcast like a beacon their sexual orientation. Rather than it just being one part of the character, it is going to become the ONLY part of the character.

People are a not a singular thing, they are a large cross section of many different things all combined together to create a unique individual that is not like anyone else in the world.

For me, its that i don't think they will do it well based on how people are asking for it.

They're asking for LGBT characters to be treated like non-LGBT characters. Why is that an issue?

The fact that everyone just ASSUMES that we don't have an LGBT character because it isn't explicitly called out is literally problematic. You are ASSUMING the default status of everyone unless otherwise stated is straight.

It's not problematic to assume something based on statistics. The vast majority of fictional characters are heterosexual. As for your "worry", don't worry. If the devs can handle heterosexual relationships, they can handle non-heterosexual relationships. That won't stop bad faith actors from pretending that the non-heterosexual relationships are "the defining feature" of the characters, but then again, nothing stops them from complaining.

Yes of course if I find it strange for someone to care about the non existent things video game characters get up to it means I have "problem"

It's no different from people caring about, say, Harry Potter. Maybe fiction and stories are just not your thing. Some people prefer games that are "all action" and no lore.

It was not meant to get an answer. I find it peculiar people are this invested in characters with depth of puddle like gta online character.

You already said you don't read the lore, so it's no wonder you think the characters aren't deep. Unless you mean that their personalities aren't expressed during gameplay (which is still somewhat wrong, due to their teachables, but whatever).

Like this reply, yours didn't actually add anything to the conversation besides literally repeating what the one poster said but wording it differently to go with your agenda rofl.

It's a horror game, you don't got time to be thinking about who your next hookup is, it's run or die time baby!

    What agenda?

So instead of increasing gen time, they decreased the SKILL part.

Yes, because they have to take low-skill survivors into account as well. This change didn't affect them, but it affected high-skill survivors. It was a great change, perfectly tailored to the problem.

I think we´ll see a lot more threads like this one in the next weeks. From survivors that simply can´t believe that the system works but has it´s limitations.

Same goes for servers. Even they can lag spike.

I'd expect PCs to lag before servers.

All in all, this is what I've learned.

Great skill checks = not worth the effort.

2 people on gens reduces the total time by 33 great skill checks.

Only run meta perks, or get rushed every match.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my point is still valid, skill checks should determine gen speed over the amount of survivors.

So, playing survivor relies less on skill and more on teamwork.

Many high-ranked survivors can consistently hit Great Skill Checks. When they provided more progress, gen rushing was even worse than it is now.

literially the opposite, the killer didnt managed to hit me because he was the one lagging, he was seeing me some secs behind

the system did actually managed to identify that he was the one lagging, so it cancelled some of his hits

But, the system did fail to identify that hit at the end

Sorry, no. Either the system worked and he should've missed every time, or it didn't and he should've hit every time. The system can't suddenly stop working from one moment to another.
