I don't know but with all the damn apps out there these days you'd think they could have done this by now. 😆

I mean come on people spend money on cosmetics in a game! They would probably be ok with a small charge for a app for the forum or even... GASP ... dare I say it?? A companion app!!!

Why is a simple bookmark not good enough? It works exactly the same way an app would, except it doesn't take up as much space on your device.

I think the contrary, it is a big deal. Killer adjusting his perks has a huge impact on the game. Either let both sides be able to switch / adjust but add a timer limit, like for example after you switch once you cant swap items for another 5 seconds and let it increase with each swap, similar to matchmake penalty, or lock both sides out.

Killers already get advantages. Make it fair for both sides and equal.

Killers and survivors aren't equal, though. There are four survivors and one killer. That's why killers get powers, time to adjust their loadout, and so on, while survivors don't get to know who the killer is.

Victims don't stalk their killer. Start to think of this in slasher terms and you'll understand why survivors and killers get different benefits.

Lockout should include both items and perks. You set up your build pre-queue, then once you are in the lobby, regardless if survivor or killer, you play with that build.

Then you'll just see more killers dodging because nobody's going to equip a perk like Franklin's Demise unless they know survivors are going to bring in items.

Survivors just need to be locked before the 5-second mark. Giving the killer 30 seconds or so to prepare is more than enough and isn't a big deal.

  • @Grimzy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2443442#Comment_2443442

Yes but for both sides, killer and survivor then it would be fair.

Killers don't have items to equip. The killer equivalent is their power, which they already can't switch in the lobby (or even while searching for a trial).

I don't think they know what Perks are in general.

I mean, they're shaming others for perk selection, of all things. You're expecting too much.

Ummmm sorry. I think you got things mixed up.

    (1) Just because people play competitively, it doesn't make the game competitive.

I can competitively milk cows, but that doesn't make cow milking a competitive field of work.

    (2) And also, when have you ever seen a fair competitive game that allowed people to bring pre-purchased items that boosts their performance? I mean, talk about bringing a gun into a knife fight, how can you see that mechanic and still argue that DBD is a competitive game?

Here's the list of the most popular competitive games in 2021:

    - Fortnite

    - PUBG

    - League of Legends

    - Overwatch

    - Street Fighter

You see what DBD does that those games DON'T do?

I'll let you figure that one out.

I can competitively milk cows, but that doesn't make cow milking a competitive field of work.

Now you're just equivocating. Your example would be like saying that video gaming as a whole is not competitive. PvP games are inherently competitive because you have players competing against players in a zero-sum game. That's just a fact of life.

And also, when have you ever seen a fair competitive game that allowed people to bring pre-purchased items that boosts their performance?

Yes, actually, like card games. Not DbD, though. Paid killers aren't better than free killers. Hell, the best killer in the game (Nurse) is 100% free, you don't even need to spend shards to get her. If you're referring to perks, there's always the Shrine - it's not perfect, but it works.

You see what DBD does that those games DON'T do?

I'll let you figure that one out.

As soon as you address why newbies should be matched against players with hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours, I'll think about it. And don't say they'd be matched according to play time, because that's just another type of matchmaking using hours as ranks.

The most offensive part of it to me is that it's so painfully obvious that some of these killers could've had some of the most interesting ideas, and somehow BHVR manages to not even come close. Hell, in Nemesis's cinematic, it shows him picking up and throwing Meg with his tentacle. And you're telling me they best they could come up with is a lite PH attack, with some differing properties? And then slap on "go to object to heal status effect". Cool. Really feels like I'm playing Nemesis.

Demo had the entire concept of the Upside down to use for his kit, and in the end it's just a portal? Seriously? And you slapped on a charge attack too?

Pyramid Head really did it for me. I would've loved if they did something really creative and polarizing. Really flip the rules of the game upside down on it's head. He had such potential to defy every trend DBD killer's have followed up till this point. But nope. 115 killer with a ranged attack. You should be making powers for these characters that could only ever apply to this one character. Otherwise, what's the point. To build "hype!", and get people to buy the cash grab.

And when we can't figure out what that something more is, it can be unsettling.

Maybe I'm just wired differently, then, because not being able to figure something out is frustrating/annoying to me, not unsettling.

When something genuinely unexplainable happens, even as a skeptic of the paranormal, it's spooky. When you hear a freaky sound in the middle of the night, and can't figure out what it is because of the darkness; That's the unknown.

That doesn't scare me, it irritates me. If I hear a spooky noise when I'm trying to sleep, because I already know there's no such thing as the supernatural, I'm just annoyed that a noise is keeping me from falling asleep.

They're really not that old. If anything the older graphics add to the atmosphere.

Silent Hill 4 (which I'm guessing is the most recent one you mentioned) is from 2004. That's old as hell. Older graphics don't really add anything, IMO, unless they were actually being stylistic and not going for realism. And if it's not going for realism, then it can't scare me. It can surprise me, like a game I played recently, but that's not the same thing.

And sometimes, like in Silent Hill 3, it looks even better and more stylized than all these generic Unreal Engine "photorealism" games we have now.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. It's a matter of personal taste, after all.

And you're just missing out on great games, and some of the best horror games made to this day most importantly.

I need a minimum of graphics to be able to immerse myself in an action game. MGS3 had better graphics than SH4 and was released in the same year.

Are you not gonna play Mario 64, because it's old too?

Yes, actually. Putting aside the fact that better games have been made since then, how would I even get around to that? I don't own a Nintendo 64. Or a PS2, for that matter (regarding Silent Hill games).

Him being pure evil is vague enough to where there's still discussion to this day on what could be behind Myer's. Carpenter knew people would ask the question, so rather than giving a real explanation, he answered it in the most intentionally mysterious way possible.

And I wouldn't recommend Shattered Memories personally. It dropped the ball, especially if you were expecting adapting enemies, because outside of visuals, its still the same one enemy. If you want to see the best of Silent Hill, try 1-4.

There will always be questions, no matter what. It's why kids can ask "why" all the time, because there's always something more. However, being pure evil is at least an attempt at an explanation, however poor it might be. If he wanted to be intentionally mysterious, he should've just left the question completely unanswered.

I was only expecting adapting visuals, not behavior. However, those games are far too old now. I've been spoiled by modern graphics.

Michael Myers is a genius example of horror at it's finest. Looking at the first movie, why is Michael killing all these people? Why is he stalking and going after Laurie? Why does he creepily stare at Bob's corpse? Because according to Loomis, behind his eyes is only pure, irrational, unreasonable, evil. There is no explaining it. It's chilling. The moment they try to go into detail and explain Myer's (The horror), it falls apart. Having him be a relative to Laurie, having some connection to a cult, having him have a connection with the cult that has some weird ritual every Halloween; It just tarnishes it.

DBD's backstories were supposed to be urban legends about said character. Urban legends, revolving entirely around mystery. Now, they're written like some kind of elaborate omnipotent novel with a 5th graders purple prose. And the unknown isn't scary huh? Try playing a Silent Hill game.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2445114#Comment_2445114

Quality over quantity. F13 and DBD are not the same games at all, and I'd rather slowly have 5 perfect killers than quickly get 20 meh killers.

You literally just gave an explanation, though. It's a poor explanation, bordering on a tautology ("Michael Myers does evil things because he's evil"), but an explanation nonetheless. I'll take that over no explanation.

And the unknown isn't scary huh? Try playing a Silent Hill game.

I have. I tried playing Shattered Memories because, IMO, it was the pinnacle of horror games: a game that adapts its creatures to what frightens you the most. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish it due to problems unrelated to the game. What I saw, though, wasn't scary. It was disconcerting and occasionally surprising, but scary? No.

It's okay for trying to win. that's why I never blame killers who tunnel when they realize they got like 2-3 hooks and there are 2 gens left already. I play killer myself a lot and if I go to tunnel if I see the game is almost finished. tunneling normally at 5 gens would be equal and normal for me if you go against 4 man swf with 4 brand new parts every match. Until that day of this scenario to happen, I can't see how tunneling at 5 gens isn't a toxic way to play this game.

Trying to win is trying to win, it hardly matter if they're trying to win at 5 gens, 4 gens, or when the gates are open. However, most people who play to win favor the aggressive approach, constantly pressuring their opponents, and that means going all out from the start. You don't let your opponent walk all over you and then try to win just to enforce some personal definition of "fairness".

You're right. I'm actually pretty dumb cause I didn't notice the names, BUT, even tho I'm dumb. you're still claiming to be a survivor main and saying that it's okay that he tunnels on 5 gens cause he wants to win. I find it weird.

Why? I don't find it weird that I can understand different perspectives and come to the conclusion that what's best isn't necessarily what I like. I don't have to be a killer main or even a competitive player to understand that people trying to win isn't a problem in PvP games. Hell, people trying to win is why I don't usually play PvP games, because I'm more of a casual player.

I feel the opposite. I love the sweet and simple backstories. Horror and mystery are supposed to leave things to the imagination. Him snapping and killing his boss, and ripping out his skull and spinal cord is crazy. And from there, no one knows what happened. But we know the vengeful Wraith wanders throughout Autohaven Wreckers to this day. It's like a good urban legend, and the entire idea of coming into the fog realm, is that you went missing. New backstories and archive lore don't understand any of this.

I disagree. I hate it when horror and mystery stories "leave things to the imagination". That's just lazy writing, when you expect your reader to fill in the gaps with something exciting because you couldn't come up with anything. It's like never showing monsters/ghosts in monster/ghost movies. The unknown isn't scary, it's annoying. How am I supposed to be afraid of something I know nothing about?

    You have wrote:

"I tunnel at 5 gens because if I don't, then gens go down even quicker."

Yet a sentence before that you've wrote:

"The few occasions when gens are getting done rather slowly, I tend to be able to sit back for a game. I don't need to worry about pressuring gens perfectly ect,"

Now let me ask you good sir who acuses me of not reading well or going into conclusions, don't you think these 2 statements contradicts?

If you tunnel at 5 gens.. how can you relax and see that they're not gen rushing? you're already taking one guy out of the game while, if you downed them at 5 gens, means you're actually leading cause you got a quick down.

Now let me ask you good sir who acuses me of not reading well

I didn't accuse you of anything, but the shoe does fit. You're literally quoting someone else. Look at my name - hell, look at my profile picture - then scroll up a bit and look at who said that.

  • Are you going to make a feedback thread and/or bug report with as much information as possible later so the devs can try to fix these issues?

  • @Wedeguy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2445064#Comment_2445064

If they play to ruin one survivor's expierience every time on 5 gens because they're afraid of losing, while the survivors didn't show they gen rush or they're about to win yet, yeah i'll gatekeep. tunneling shouldn't be complained about if the killer feels he's going to lose but from the start of the game? nah that's just a really disgusting behavior.

They play to win, just like the vast majority of players. The survivor is irrelevant.

This is why we need SBMM, to separate people who play casually from people who play to win. The former will naturally have a lower MMR and the latter can "sweat" all they want.

  • I don't want a newbie with 10 hours going up against someone who reached rank 1, no matter how often you say "rank doesn't matter" and "DbD isn't a competitive game".

DbD is a competitive game. People compete against each other and most of them try to win by any means necessary.

As for rank, it's not the perfect indicator of skill, but someone who reaches rank 1 is probably a little more skilled than someone who just started playing. For the sake of player retention, it's important to separate newbies from more experienced players.

  • @GoshJosh said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2445010#Comment_2445010

No exploitations going on here, just utilizing something that’s been in the game since release. Again, DbD mobile has both sides locked with no chance of editing anything once a lobby is formed. It’s basically queue and play in five seconds once matchmaking is complete. That’s all the killer and survivors get, five seconds to see the items equipped. No changing anything on either side.

If it’s such a core mechanic of DbD’s gameplay, why was it totally removed from the mobile version? I know it’s different devs, but that is a drastic difference that I think is noteworthy.

This game allows - and I would dare to say, encourages - “toxic” gameplay, for both sides. This isn’t a survivor thing only.

DbD mobile is a different game, with different mechanics, a different dev team, and so on. What they do is not relevant to the DbD we're talking about.

This game allows - and I would dare to say, encourages - “toxic” gameplay, for both sides. This isn’t a survivor thing only.

Look, right on cue, just like I said:

Now cue people using whataboutism to distract from the point.

Yes, I know killers can be toxic too, but I'm talking about survivors, not killers, and DbD, not DbD mobile. Let's stay on-topic.

  • SBMM gave me trials with people who play casually (or are at my level when I play casually) because I play casually as well. If you're constantly getting trials with people who play competitively, it's only because you play competitively.

As for how you define "skill", I find it curious that this argument only shows up en masse now that SBMM is becoming a reality, when the past 5 years have been people telling other people that they're "not skilled" based on their gameplay.

  • To survivors who do this and/or defend this behavior:

Just stop. Play the game normally, stop trying to exploit everything to your advantage.

This is why survivors are seen as toxic and why we can't have nice things. We can't have a way to punish killers for camping because survivors abused it. We can't have trials where killers aren't automatically pissed off because of last-second switching, teabagging, and so on (and some people even trying to justify/excuse it). Soon, I'd wager we won't be able to change items in the lobby because of this last-second switching BS. How much more do you want to shoot yourselves in the foot, to the detriment of all survivors?

Now cue people using whataboutism to distract from the point.

  • I hope you recorded this and reported them. We don't need people who refuse to play the game, but still queue up just to ruin everyone else's trials.

  • Yes.

    No.

    No.

    No.

I would like to see a COMPROMISE to this system. Either by a RANKED system that factors in this, or a Non Competitive mode implemented. So if we are streaming DBD, random connection losses don't put a stand-still for us, and players that are Hard-core don't have to lose their games due to folks with bad connections.

As much as we have solid infrastructure in big cities across the United States. The majority of Networks in midwestern united States are running on OLD equipment that Telcom companies REFUSE to properly maintain or run Fiber to homes. Infact there are still homes in my area WITHOUT phone lines and the phone companies REFUSE to run 300' of a phone line to a house! (cant say names here).

Players in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Eastern Colorado, Oklahoma, Northern Texas, Iowa, Utah and Parts of Arizona and New Mexico have these types of issues. And we are STILL waiting for the telcom companies to COMPLY with the new rules we have on the books that each home is to have Phone, Internet or even Fiber to it. 😕

And median income in my country is vastly lower than in the USA, along with higher prices for electronic goods than in most other countries in the world. Doesn't mean I have the right to demand that every single game run on my computer, regardless of minimum and required specs.

This is not an issue pertaining to DbD, or any game. There's a minimum required to play DbD. That minimum is a combination of hardware, software, and internet connection. If your system does not meet the minimum and you try to force the issue anyway, the resulting problems are yours and yours alone to deal with. Since poor internet connection affects everyone who plays with you, however, the vast majority of multiplayer games have DC penalties.

I don't own a VR set (too expensive and experimental). That doesn't mean I have the right to buy Half-Life: Alyx and then demand Valve create a version that accommodates my below-minimum-specs system. It's on me to solve the issue by either getting a VR set, or not buying the game. Likewise, if your connection does not allow you to play online multiplayer games, it's on you to find a solution - either don't, or get a better connection (if you can).

I've seen complaints about censoring words "you", "tea", "facecamp" etc. countless times on the forums. I think there will be a full dictionary of "ridiculously censored words" out there. If that is not enough of feedback - I don't know what is.

Btw, there is a report button in the game which can allegedly counter racism and homophoby in chat. I guess by introducing this filter having no equals in ridiculousness they just confirmed that button does absolutely nothing.

I've seen the complaints as well. Here, in General Discussions, which is not the place for feedback.

I'm assuming they implemented the filter to take some pressure off the mods, who have to deal with thousands of reports per day.

So you are fine with the word "you" being censored? Seriously? Interesting.

Well, if people were to give the devs feedback on words that are being censored, but shouldn't, they could actually improve the filter. Instead, they open threads on General Discussions to complain to each other that the devs don't do anything.

Still, I'll take the occasional odd censoring over racists, homophobes, and others of their ilk spewing their garbage in the chat.

I hardly think one person dc'ing ruins it for everyone else. The killer gets a BP bonus, and the survivors get an interesting challenge. What, you tell me a 3-survivor-team can't win a game?

I think the game should have a system which detects the reason you DC'd: 1. Your internet cut out, or 2. You left the match on purpose.

If the case is 1, there is no penalty. If it's 2, then you get the timeout because it's YOUR fault.

I don't know why you guys blame him for his connection.

I think it's more that people are blaming him for playing despite his connection. My BF's connection is occasionally on the fritz as well. We don't play multiplayer games with other people when that's the case, because we know it ruins everyone else's game. We also don't play games that have requirements our systems don't meet.

I hardly think one person dc'ing ruins it for everyone else. The killer gets a BP bonus, and the survivors get an interesting challenge. What, you tell me a 3-survivor-team can't win a game?

You're free to play as many 3v1 trials in KYF as you want. In a normal trial, people are counting on a 4v1.

I think the game should have a system which detects the reason you DC'd: 1. Your internet cut out, or 2. You left the match on purpose.

If the case is 1, there is no penalty. If it's 2, then you get the timeout because it's YOUR fault.

So then people who want to DC just pull their ethernet cable and get free DCs. No. The way it works now is fine, if people whose systems don't meet the requirements for playing online multiplayer games don't try to force it and then blame the game for enacting completely normal penalties.

You say that, but you are in the dbd forums XD like the posts of nerf/remove survivor perk/killer that are their everyday. Noed yesterday, same as DH posts and spirit posts. There is so many repeated posts.

You can not like fnaf, that's fine, but don't throw things at it that either have no standing or are just factually wrong. If there's any other points I'll respond asap, but otherwise have a good day.

Use the search feature. The FNAF spam is on another level. I found out that in the last week, it actually had more comments than NOED in the last month. It's not comparable to anything and genuinely just feels like an invasive ad campaign.

I still don't think its ok to hate a game franchise and all of its fans just because of a vocal minority, a lot of which were trolls.

That's beside the point. People got angry because of the spam and that fandom's conduct. Right now, constantly bringing it up, even if just to say "let's treat each other nicer when this happens", is just rubbing salt on the wounds, especially when you just try to deflect blame away from the fandom ("vocal minority", "trolls").

Give people a break from the subject, get that fandom to conduct itself like everyone else, and I assure you far fewer people are going to have a problem with it.

  • I've never been flamed for wanting Candyman. In fact, the vast majority of people haven't been flamed for wanting this or that character. It's only a specific fandom that spammed the forum with threads, purposefully denied the evidence in their faces "out of spite", and generally made a nuisance of themselves, which made any normal dialogue impossible. That's why people were upset.

  • Right, I should mention that tagging devs who weren't involved in the thread was recently added to the "don't" part of the rules.

Except, we already KNOW the game is completely unfair at high levels.

Of course, but what does "high level" really mean, when even someone considered the best of the best isn't it? That's my point - the ranking system needs to more accurately reflect skill before changes can be made at "high level". Without a proper ranking system, "high level" is a meaningless term.
