Dunno. If it has the same development team as the previous one I won't be touching it with a ten-foot pole. I was an avid supporter of the original game and the way the developers handled it was atrocious. Their subsequent projects have been equally ill-fated.
-
Being a Silent Hill fan, Pyramid Head is a killer I reallly want to like but I just can't (and not for a lack of trying). A few of my gripes with him are:
- Of all the killers with a medium-range attack, Pyramid Head's feels the worst to use IMO. The turning is so awkward and I just cannot seem to get the hang of it.
- His add-ons are, as you say, mostly useless. The only two addons I personally use on him are Burning Man Painting and Wax Doll. Crimson Book is usable too but that's about it. He probably has the worst addon set of the entire killer roster IMO.
- His trails are janky. Sometimes survivors get tormented from invisible specks of trails and other times they blatantly run through them and nothing happens.
-
This has been my experience with the past like four events now. Blood Moon, Masquerade, Lights Out, and now Haunted by Daylight.
95% of the killer's I play against aren't engaging with the event in any way, and just using the mode to dunk on casuals who just want to have some unserious games in the event.

Not everyone lives in the same country where the servers are. I live in Nordic country in Europe and i will get 40 ping when i connect to german servers. I have good internet but that's the lowest it goes because of the distance. Maybe on good days it can be 35 ish
What DBD needs is to add more servers since many people have high pings due to bad server placements. In europe eastern part people quite often have red ping.
Noone has a problem with you playing at 40 ping. That's perfectly reasonable. The problem is killers with ping in the hundreds or thousands like OP showed in the image.

@selflessnea said:
Why should someone be punished for not having the greatest internet. Your point of 150 being to high and that the game shouldn't even let them play is disgusting. I understand being frustrated about a high ping player, but you have to understand that not everyone can get the greatest internet or live close to a server. I'm happy you have great ping. Just don't get mad when you see the average ping range of 50-150.
Why should someone be punished for not having the greatest internet.
Because this is an online game and having a decent internet connection is a prerequisite to playing.

Friend, there are 37 killers in this game. This works differently than every other similar ability in the game, and is not something you could confirm without side by side testing from killer and survivor POV. Not everyone is going to main your favorite killer and figure out all of those ins and outs. That does not mean that their opinion is invalid.
This conversation reminds me of what happened with Skull Merchant. You have a handful of Skull Merchant mains bemoaning that no one wants to learn her power and that's why they hate her, when in reality, aspects of her power are not intuitive, and even once you know exactly how it works it doesn't get more fun to play against. Information is an issue to some extent, but the fundamental issue is bad design. In this case, I actually think this is more of an issue now that I know that the killer VFX matches the survivor perspective.
I do not have significant experience playing as her, as I have no interest in playing killers I don't find enjoyable to play against, except maybe I have a daily, rift challenge, or adept to get. I have played against her plenty, though. My criticisms are how she feels to play against, not to play as.
That does not mean that their opinion is invalid.
It kind of does. I'd agree if we were talking about anything complex, but these are the fundamentals of her power. Like the very basics of how she works.
Once again, you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't see any reason to give substantial weight to it when you fundamentally don't understand how she operates.

As I said in my other reply, I didn't realize the first person VFX matched with her passive invisibility. With other killers with similar abilities, like Freddy or Spirit, it doesn't work like that, so I assumed it was just for flavor.
The fact that you can actually tell when you're invisible makes me dislike this even more than before. It's little different than Chucky "outplaying" a survivor by being too small to see over parts of a loop and passively creating 50/50s. This adds more skill expression as Sadako than I thought, but not very much (since you're still just reacting to it rather than using it proactively, but at the expense of making it even more obnoxious to play against her than if it were random. 1.5 seconds of time at 100% speed is nothing, especially when it takes a fraction of a second to understand she's manifesting and to adjust. That is not a legitimate opportunity for counterplay. Again, you can sit at a safe pallet or window all day, but other than that, you're likely to take an easy hit. Most killer powers do not work like that.
All killer powers do not work this way. Many of the killer powers for killers released since 2020 work this way and many of the killers released since 2020 are horrendous to play against. This is not a coincidence. The survivor cannot "play it right" against Sadako on a weaker tile. They can guess. Guessing is not counterplay. It is similar to playing against Spirit when they removed her directional phasing noise.
As I said in my other reply, I didn't realize the first person VFX matched with her passive invisibility.
No offence but admitting you don't know the basics of a how a killer's power works kind of undermines any credibility your arguments about said power have.
Of course you're entitled to your opinions, but they're clearly not qualified by any significant experience playing as or against her.

It is a luck-based mindgaming tool that you have infinite attempts at. It will eventually gain you distance, and likely much faster than holding W.
0.7s is enough to cause a 5-6m discrepancy between where the survivor thought you would be and where you actually are. 5-6m would require 20-24 seconds of holding W to make up, and even longer around a loop, so that is huge. You would need to be lucky to get that max effect, but even a fraction of that is still useful.
While playing as her you might just assume you won a mind game or that the survivor wasn't able to see you over the loop, when what actually happened was you changed direction at an opportune time and gained a ton of distance. The opposite is also true for a survivor who decides to leave a loop just as you mind game while invisible; it looks like counterplay, but it's luck. It is impossible to provide gameplay of this from the killer perspective because there is no way to know when you're invisible. You can only really see it from the survivor perspective.
At a safe pallet or safe window, the survivor is fine regardless. You can either vault the window as she's manifesting or throw the pallet down as she's manifesting. If you continue to run the loop, you risk her gaining distance by luck. She can even manifest at the pallet, change directions a couple of times, and likely still get easy distance and a hit in those first four seconds. It is very similar to Wraith, as you say, except you know where Wraith is when you have line of sight, which makes him more consistent to counter.
Okay so I don't mean this rudely but you seem to lack understanding about how the Onryo's intermittent visibility operates. Earlier in the thread you were saying that you weren't aware that Demanifested intermittent visibility and post-Manifestation intermittent visibility operate differently (which anyone familiar with even her addons should be aware of) and now you're claiming there's no way to tell when you're invisible as killer, which is untrue.
The visibility of the Onryo's hands from the killer's perspective lets you know whether you're currently visible or invisible, and if you know how long each period of the intermittent visibility lasts you can use it to time your mindgames accordingly. Just walking back and forth hoping your movements happen to coincide with your very brief invisible period is a woefully inefficient way to play her. Will you sometimes get lucky and make a hit? Sure. But relying on that as your sole chase ability would be slow and unreliable.

It is passive when you are demanifasted. It happens without you doing something.
Yes but it doesn’t really passively give you value. The invisibility period is very short and she cannot hit while Demanifested so if you want to catch a survivor off guard with it then you have to time it accordingly.

You still need to manifest to attack, so it requires specific timing and attention on the killer's side to use it effectively to get a hit - unlike Spirit who can just M1 while passively phasing.
Right? I’m kind of confused about the whole “it’s passive” thing. I’ve never heard anyone say that before, even back when the invisibility duration was 1 second.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3820877#Comment_3820877
It is passive in that it automatically applies in the demanifested state. You don't press a"Sadako is now invisible" button. You just walk around and passively benefit from this while demanifested and you continue to benefit for a bit after manifesting. It's very similar to Spirit's passive phasing, but stronger over a shorter duration.
A survivor can't react to something they cannot see or hear. It would be better if it only applied when she was demanifested, but it lasts for four seconds after manifesting, which can and will give her free hits after manifesting with minimal effort; she can do a simple mindgame at a fortunate time and appear like 6 meters away from where you expect her to be.
I understand the devs intended to buff this and nerfed it instead. That's not good, but the correct decision would have been not to buff this in the first place, and instead to buff parts of her kit that require skill to get value. So, all's well that ends well, I suppose.
but it lasts for four seconds after manifesting
Post-Manifestation intermittent visibility operates with different values. The invisibility period is 0.75 s here and this value is not what was buffed in 7.5.0, nor are we asking it to be.
-
Literally WHAT are they doing? Who asked for this?

Ah, this is a bug that I would consider a feature. Seems a strange thing to want to buff in the first place, as it is hard to play against while being fully passive to use.
It’s neither hard to play against nor passive to use, but that’s neither here nor there. The point remains that they said they were increasing the value from 1s to 1.2 s, back in 7.5.0 but instead they broke it and left it at 0.8 s.
-
Queues have been quick for me but incentive has generally been low or absent.

The riff pass keep holding me back.

Same situation as me. I use to have a group of 10 friends to SWF with, nowadays only 3 of them still play…

i´m sure that skull merchant had an average pick rate, and the ´´super 3 gen merchants´´ were kinda rare to see, it was really annoying when it happened but it´s not like she made the game unplayable (thank god she´s gone since 2023 at least)
I mean maybe I was unlucky but survivor was absolutely unplayable when SM was at her prime. The 3 gen nonsense was every other game.
Vividly remember playing as part of a 3-man and both of my teammates decided to give up playing for the day because we got held hostage three games in a row.

hope you bring this same energy
I didn't bring any energy at all. I just said she's always had fundamental issues and that her current iteration is no exception, just for the opposite side now. I literally stated that from an objective standpoint, her rework is bad — like what is the problem here?
-
The state she was in before was horrid, as was her original state.
She's never been well designed, the only thing that's flipped is the side that has to suffer when she's in a match. Not excusing it —objectively her rework is bad and unfair to those that like her — but I don't think this sets any sort of precedent. Skull Merchant is an exceptional case.

SM is the exception. Legion didn't do anything SM did when she was released. Not even close.

Right? I don't get how people even think they are comparable.

I played against two yesterday and no one DCd or let go in either of them. In my general experience it's a minority, even as hated as SM is.
Played against four since her rework and there was one give up on hook total. Which doesn't feel any higher than the rate people give up against any killer. Granted four isn't a lot of matches, but I'm yet to see the "survivors still giving up in swathes against nerfed SM" people keep talking about.

But if that was truly the case, then people would still DC against Legion. On their release, Legion was way worse than Skull Merchant ever was.
No, at this point there are no more excuses for DCing against Skull Merchant.
On their release, Legion was way worse than Skull Merchant ever was
This take is baffling to me. Yeah Legion's original design was bad, but I never got held hostage in one-hour matches by Legions for weeks on end after they released. In fact, I barely saw Legion when they released because noone liked them. Skull Merchant made the game completely unplayable for weeks. Every other survivor match lasted ~40 minutes.
Of course there was that brief stint where Legion's mending add-ons were bugged, leading to ridiculously long mending, but I played against that maybe twice back in the day.
Design-wise they were both absurdly offensive, but SM had a much greater impact on the game's playability IMO.

I second this.

Not a fan anymore.

Penti starts up? Run for that totem. If it's not penti, wait for the killer to light it and jump on it. As long as you can deny 5 of them the rest can be hunted down.
Just do a totem yourself, even a dull.
So we should start every match cleansing a dull totem on the offchance that if Pentimento is in play we've given the killer a free stack but at least we know where it is?
What kind of counterplay is this? 😂

I don't think the right design for Freddy lie with any of his previous iterations honestly. Frankly speaking, they all had a varying number of complex issues that made them utterly hated when they encompasses his skillset, for good reason in my opinion.
Although aspects of them could be brought back for the new rework, my biggest wish would be that the devs treat this more like designing a modern killer power from the ground up than reworking an old killer.
If there's any member of the classic cast deserving of having 3-4 abilities like Drac and Vecna, it'd be Freddy. Here's to hoping he's early on the map for 2025
I feel like his original incarnation never really got a fair chance though. He was gutted almost as soon as he arrived on the scene.

I kind wish they would revert the buff so we have the old values again and then they should revert the nerf to reikos watch (+50%), so we can get 1.5s again
Honestly if reverting the buff is what fixes it I’m down for it because the current 0.7 seconds is useless.
-
It’s completely unacceptable that after 10 months we still have no information on if or when this will be fixed.
VERY disappointed.
-
The invisibility duration in game still does not match the stated value of 1.2 seconds as of patch 8.3.0.

My biggest problem with this map is the pallet to vault ratio. It has far too many pallets and too few windows. They need to replace some of the pallets with vaults and then I’d dislike it less.

So maybe? you just really get hit ,really don't land the stun or maybe you have a bad ping either?
Your memory is right but your understanding is wrong.
The game is no longer P2P, but having a high ping as killer still provides an advantage. The other players won't lag due to the killer having a bad connection, but interactions between the killer and survivor are still affected. Hits, picking up survivors, etc. all jank out when the killer has a bad connection. This isn't my clip, but this is the kind of thing I'm talking about: https://www.tiktok.com/@obeseunicorn33/video/7355990532272721194

BHVR’s insistence on bandaid fixes instead of addressing the underlying issues irks me to no end.
What they should’ve done is made it so AFK players lose collision, but instead they’ve buffed an already strong building without even fixing the problem.

When they first introduced the Deep Rift, I was certain each Rift would have a unique colour palette for the Deep variants.

How about you let the devs speak for themselves and if you aren't interested in what they have to say, move on to a different post.
The developers have already spoken though, in the form of the game's official rules. Which makes it pretty clear that silly stuff like this isn't a banable offense (so long it doesn't become repeated targetting across multiple matches).

Some of you never been through the days of OG HALO, and it shows. 😝Hey, remember open racism, sexism, and homophobia? I remember. Not sure why that should make you want to prevent things from improving.
Killer can't tbag the same way as Survivor. But it's the same essence. But as Survivor say "take your humps and move on".Three things:
1: Many survivors thinks tbagging is stupid, dumb, and offensive. Your lumping everyone together is incorrect.
2: The killer can push survivors out of the gate. Still not cool on the part of the survivors, but the killer has easier recourse.
3: The ability to address it would be much more difficult. Crouching is part of the game, and crouching up and down is also used by the survivors to communicate. There are numerous solutions to bleeding out the survivor, if anyone can think of a practical way to actually stop tbagging without impacting other game elements I'm sure it would get lots of support.
Hey, remember open racism, sexism, and homophobia? I remember.
I remember as well, and it certainly isn't even remotely comparable to someone walking back and forth in a video game. I understand you're making an allegory, but these words have been absolutely RAN through. People bring these up so often, particularly in situations where they aren't appropriate, to the point where they're losing all meaning y'all.
Like people do not take me seriously when I talk about actual homophobia, because the word has been thrown around ad nauseum online.
