As typical, people abused a good thing, now we have this. If people were not, in general, jerks.. there wouldn't be a need for a mechanic like this, to later be "abused" by more jerks. The only reason why I like things they way they are now is that now I as a survivor or a killer don't have to wait forever for a match to end.
But keep on on this Killers are bad / Surviors are bad endless argue loop.
Its entertaining.
I brought popcorn, I'm taking bets on how many posts before this one gets locked or fizzles out.
Idea: Introduce a add on to tool boxes or keys that allow you to pry the hatch back open (with a skill check!). It wont remove the timer, but will give the survivor another second chance like ability to add to their arsenal of second chance abilities.
-
Its a story between the Entity and Benedict Baker. Everyone else are pawns in their game. There is a cool Anime out there called DRIFTERS that makes me think of this game often. The battle between Easy and Murasaki make me think of how The Entity and Benedict Baker might be.
-
Maps need tweaks.
Killers need tweaks based on maps.
-
Perks = In game mechanics = cheating
Powers = In game mechanics = cheating
Logic ftw

Be really friendly. Club them over the head, invite them for tea, then hook them up for the night in your basement. Friendly killers are very misunderstood.
-
We had a thread a few days ago how Killer is unrewarding and boring to play.
-
Survivors who just rush and leave, you ain't getting points.
Killers who 4k waay too fast, ain't getting points.
To me this is a sign of young/new killers and survivors who are still treating the game as a schoolyard game of tag, rather than a strategy game. Good games are when all the survivors and killers are on the same page working to maximize the efforts of their time.
I hate wasting my "points for everyone" sacrifices on these ... people ...
I see the PIP tool as trying to remind people to relax and explore more of what the game has to offer.
I am also eager to see if the rework will promote more of this behavior.
-
Go on youtube and type in Toxic + you favorite DbD character, killer or survivor, it doesnt matter. Toxicity is considered a big part of the game. Its considered a badge of honor, its considered cool. All the top streamers do it! Its super entertaining! There is your reason why. Just embrace it and mute your messages/turn up your privacy settings. The only way to combat toxicity in this game is to get more toxic. Welcome to DBD.
-
Playing a killer you are not good at is the "legal way" to de-pip and stay in the lower ranks.
-
For some killers its not about the points, its about sending a message.
-
Im sorry you are having bad games like this. As a killer main I can tell you face campers and tunnelers just aren't used to the scoring system yet. This is a baby killer tactic. Some will argue that it is because of toxic survivors, but I don't believe that is the case. Once you break down how points are scored you get used to the idea of "messing around" and dragging out chases. You can actually pip and level without a 4K, I do it with Legion and Clown all the time. Sometimes I do it with no kills at all.
On the flipside however, I get mad at survivors who just want to 5 gen and run out. They get crap points, I get crap points. Its just no fun ESPECIALLY after I drop sacrifices so EVERYONE can get points. Thats about as boring to me as tunneling and face camping.
it pisses me off.
-
As a killer main I approve this, It will help me find you easier. I dont see it being any more annoying than flashlight clicking either.
-
The Doctor would wear scrubs, and go commando.
-
I also LOVE devour hope, and probably use it waaaay too often. Mori's seem counter productive to me as they don't really help me pip or farm blood points. I'm sitting on a nice stack of ebony moris on my main, which I only use on challenges or if I'm being harassed by a group (that is ... I have run into the same toxic jerk more than 3 times in a night.) Im sure there are people who love them, but for me personally Devour Hope and Rancor are more appealing because it feels like a Mortal Kombat fatality and I have to work to get more points. Maybe that will change if ever I have ALL killers and ALL survivors P3 .. but that is a Loooong way off.
-
Its not even aura perks that can give players away. Veteran killers will understand certain behaviors from survivors who use certain perks. This gives an idea of if they are going to be stealthy or not. Killers who are observant and have kicked the generator for the umpteenth time, will know someone is close by. Some killers like myself will tilt the camera down in chases to catch the occasional Claudette sneaking by. After a while you start to understand the way scratch marks develop to catch people who double back and try to hide in their own tracks.
Sometimes you just get outplayed, not every killer is cheating, some are actually ... dare I say it? Experienced.
-
I honestly play hexes because I think they are fun. However as with all hexes NOED included, they are a coin toss. For baby survivors it can be a death sentence, for SWF vets, those hexes are gone in seconds. IMHO Most of the people complaining about NOED are lower ranked survivors who don't know map layouts yet. Trust me, as soon as I hit rank 10 I stop using hexes so much (Including the bigger and more useful crutch perk Ruin), because more often than not they are just wasted slots.
NOED really isn't all that great of a perk, but among the hexes I would rank it number 2, under Ruin. This is coming from a Spirit main who sometimes runs a 4 Hex build (because shes one of the few who can.)

@Onionthing I think his goal is to one hit down the person trying to body block you to get to the survivor just unhooked. This kind of perk wouldn't be allowed though most likely.
If that is the case, I double down the no. I'm a killer main and body blocking is NOT really an issue. Besides, how would you program for somethings so situational? The coding for something like this would be a nightmare (and I'm not talking Freddy.) "Make your choice" is one of my favorite perks, it makes survivors very cautious about hooks. "No one escapes death" has the potential to wreck SWF (that is why there is so much b--ching about it.) Those who perks keeps body blocking down to a minimum. I dont think we need another perk for countering something that takes a lot of practice (not to mention, courage to do.) I just dont see body blocking as all that bad, i see it as suicidal lol.
Anyway thanks for the explanation Atrushan, it was really confusing for me.

Honestly at that point I just shootback with some smart ass remark to get them to shut up, most people dont like going back and forth and arent prepared for someone to defend themselves from their toxic behaviour
my favorite retort until i discovered my privacy settings was: "Yes! I too, do enjoy the taste of fingers!"
few people responded back.

I'd like a "Mori-ed" or "Hooked" option. Maybe a "Flashlight" or "Decisive."
"Sacrificed!" Yeaah sacrificing a comment or a thread would be fun.
-
Non SWF:
The guy taken off the hook gets slugged. I let him have time to crawl away (I want dem points) .. The guy who unhooked I chase down and hopefully by the time Im done hooking them, the guy who got slugged should be up if he has some decent team mates. If not I shrug and hook em anyway.
SWF:
I slug them both, hook one, stalk the other .. maybe ill keep swinging at their slugged body if i feel like it .. maybe hook that guy if there is one near by. I have no mercy for SWF. I wont dodge you or DC (I still want dem points) but i will make your life a living hell.
SWF who are nice:
Rare that a SWF is actually playing a respectful match. But if it happens, I treat it as a non SWF. I'm there for points, I like spreading the love as much as possible, maximizing my score. Sometimes every one dies, sometimes everyone gets away. I dont really care when Im playing with nice people. This rarely happens tho.
-
If a survivor protection hits another survivor the survivor hit is automatically downed
Your perk idea is a bit unclear to me. Maybe a better explanation is in order?
@ReikoMori said:
If you're proposing a new a perk and that is its effect then that will never see the light of day. It's extremely rare for killers to get perks that produce exposed status. Noed is the only general perk that does it and the other is Devour Hope which is from the hag. Both are conditional as hell and hex perks.
Actually: there are more perks that give exposed status ... You already probably knew this butttt:
There otherways to activate it too ... but we are just talkin perks here.
I only rule out the above idea because I have no idea what its supposed to do? Stop body blocking? Counter "protection perks" like Borrowed Time? The descriptions is too vague.

Could you imagine a Supernatural cross over?! :)

Spirit Main here
I change mine up all the time so that games don't get (too) repetitive. I have had 3-4k success with these. Feel free to try:
The Grudge -
BBQ and Chili, Make your Choice, A Nurse's Calling, Hex: Ruin
The Ring -
Hex: Devour Hope, Rancor, Hex: Haunted Ground, Thanatophobia
Ghost in the Machine -
Hex: Ruin, Overcharge, Pop Goes the Weasel, Discordance
Poltergeist -
Franklin's Demise, Sloppy Butcher, A Nurses Calling, Whispers
City of Bones -
Hex: Devour Hope, Hex: Ruin, Hex: Haunted Grounds, No One Escapes Death
Hexposed -
Make your Choice, No One Escapes Death, Hex: Haunted ground, Hex: Devour Hope
and sometimes i just play without perks .. :)
-
You aren't trash.
Use whatever perks you want.
Re-check your privacy settings, I play on PS4 make sure all of your settings are on Friends Only, not friends of friends or public. This will reduce your spam and hate mail by 99% .. If people are circumventing your privacy settings report them to PSN. That's a bannable offense. Just make sure all your privacy settings are where they need to be first, and send them a screenshot of your settings and the offending messages.
Lastly don't party, or accept invites from people you don't know while playing this game.
This drastically increased my fun and lowered my stress levels when playing the game as both a killer and a survivor.

Wouldn't having a gay/trans killer be considered phobic?
Wouldn't killing gay/trans survivors be considered hate?
I'm down for all the fan fiction and art that comes out about this, and I think it should stay within the realm of the fanart/fiction community personally. The lore is already vague enough to facilitate this. David is headcanon gay in my eyes and Susie is headcanon Bi.
However this is just going to paint a big target on this game from the more sensitive folks who wield their blogs and twitter smear campaigns with out a care for context.
My two bits.
-
I dont target cosmetics. I tunnel Claudettes.
-
Games that give content/level skips tend to have short lifespans and bleed dedicated regular players for that sweet-quick-causal-cash. It all depends on how long the devs want to support and work on the game. When they are tired of it I'm sure everything with get posted for free, the challenge wont be there and people, like whenever this happens in other games will just move on to a different game. Casual Killswitch ... everytime, works like a charm.

1) Survivor: You be nice!
2) Killer: You be nice first!
3) Survivor: NO YOU BE NICE FIRST!
4) Killer: Why I have to be nice when you aren't nice?!

Typical. Always assuming that killer mains are right. I was a neutral player but now I'm a killer main (solo survivor is so boring) but I don't agree with you thinking killer mains have the moral high ground. They don't there are lots of survivor mains who have common sense too.And that's the beauty of it all. I can make jokes and you don't have to agree or find them very funny. If believing what you believe helps you feel cozy at night. more power to ya.

Legion's creation makes me smile:
Survivors: Can we have a killer that doesn't tunnel?
Killers: What? This is a awful idea ...
Survivors: Can we have a killer that doesn't instant down you?
Killers: Okay but we will need some outplay mechanics or...
Survivors: Can we have a killer that doesn't have traps/invisibility or other mind game gimmicks?
Killers: Wait.. what? How are we supposed to...
Survivors: Can we have a killer that doesn't get much use out of the most common "broken" perks out there like NOED?
Killers: Devs you can't seriously be listening to this garbage right? Cause..
Devs: Here we go friends, a non tunnel, non insta-down, just gotta run fast, time wasting troll as ordered
Survivors: This isn't very fun

Killers: /facepalm
-
this is legit, ignore them, this is more reliant on strike distance and can be done other places as well. They can report until they are blue in the face.
-
Last Year: Survivors can kill the killer, with flame throwers, shotguns and the like. Why run? Why be scared? This goes from Slasher flick to buddy hunter/ghostbusters. No thnx.
Identity V: What even am I looking at? Nooooo this looks baaaaadddd....

It's my opinion; players that purposely derank to avoid players of their skill level and instead go for lower skilled players are egoists. Simple. My pride would never allow such a pathetic thing but I guess this is where the community seperates. If you don't want to pip, you can just let them escape / never hook them and you WILL NOT pip. If you still want to 4k even in lower ranks, you're no better than those elite squads that bully low rank killers.Well at least you said "It's my opinion." I can respect that is is your opinion.
However ...
Let me rephrase. Just because you are rank 1 does not mean you are actually a rank 1 player. You may have had a string of bad players that pushed you to the top. You may have have played Legion a few too many hours. This is part of the reason why the ranking system is garbage. It is not an accurate measure of ones skill, nor is there any incentive or advantage that it gives.
I dont feel I am a rank 1 player, I dont see how this is "egotistical" ... "humble" maybe, "realistic" definitely. I dont belong in rank 1, so I dont strive for rank 1. That's just my opinion however. Obviously people see it another way.

but barely there bandages where she is practically naked is okay... a schoolgirl outfit is where you draw the line... whaaaaat?

Generally I just fart around and don’t try to 4k all the time, most of my 4k happen when I deal with SWFs who are being jerks.
I have 3 killers I am very comfortable with: Hag, Spirit, Susie. I feel that being comfortable with your killer is key to relaxing.
My goal is to maximize my BP as much as possible so I chase, I hunt, I play peekaboo yadda-yadda. Im thankful for pallets because it’s more points. I kick gens. Anything that awars points I try to do a lot of those before I even consider sacrificing people. To me Sacrificing is really only 1/4th of killer gameplay so I treat it as such.
More often than not I will slug people before I hook them, and let them get saved for more bleed points.
I give myself other objectives. Like trying to get grabs from pallets, gens and windows. Or I try to see if I can get 1 or more survivors to trust me to get close and follow them around for a bit. Watching them duck walking around you is funny to me.I generally play slower, honestly, sometimes I move at a survivors pace, swing at nothing, look at the scenery … Every now and then survivor gets curious and comes looking for me instead.
Also I rarely hit -> chase -> hit. I will Chase -> Hit -> Run away. I throws people off for one, and again gets you more points.
I spam my powers whenever I can.
Also sometimes I turn the game music down and play some other music instead to change the context of the game. Funny music, classical music… that kind of stuff.
Lastly I'm not afraid to lose, when you get over the fear of defeat, you are free to do anything you want.

Depiping is often done to avoid certain types of toxic gameplay, or gameplay killers deem as out of thier league. I used to play 5-1 for a while and then stopped because I didnt like playing with those people. I keep myself in the 11-7 because that offers me the best results for the gameplay I like. I dont like "stomping noobs" and I dont like playing with "GG-EZ" gen rushing sweaty elites either. While rank means nothing, most people still use it to gauge difficulty levels. You're still indirectly ruining the fun for actual Rank 7-11 players. You might not realize it but as a former Rank 1 player you have significantly more experience than someone that has never reached this rank, leading to an uneven playground for those newer players.
It's egoistic. If you get upset because a gen rush elite squad beats you, that's fair but ultimately that's exactly where the Rank 1 balance currently lies. High skilled Killers should be able to compete with high skilled Survivors. If they can't, that's a possible result of imbalance and needs to be addressed but avoiding it by purposely deranking won't solve this issue. In fact, it will just shift the imbalance towards Rank 7-11 players and create an even bigger mess regarding matchmaking & balance.
Im egotistical? really? So let me get this straight, I'm a bad person because I want to play causally...
Because I don't want to be harassed, bullied and kicked around. I should just take it up the "you know what" because Legion is a pipping machine who doesn't have to win a damn match to rank up? Then I should just sit around and do nothing once lobbies slow down? I should sacrifice my fun because I fall under a blanket statement of "bad killers" and "bad gamers" just so a bunch of people can feel like they are vindicated from a boogeyman concept that may or may not exist.
I want to have fun .. otherwise Im going someplace else. Some of us are not trying to maliciously ruin everyone's experience, we are just trying to get the most out of our game, before it sucks so much that we want we drop it.
But hey, I could just go play Civ 5
-
write their names down and lobby doge them, then have them complain they cant find any games. its a hoot!
In all seriousness, its just the nature of the beast. Sometimes they still have adrenaline in thier system they can deal with so they have to vomit trash talk all over the screen. To me, if I get trash talked after I lost, I figure because it wasnt an GG-EZ win despite what they say. Ignore chat, and keep working on your skills. You learn to use that salt as seasoning for better gameplay.

Why would you smurf in DbD? You can just purposely depip for the same effect without having to buy another copy & DLCs.... That's why "depip on purpose" is (in my opinion) a real problem. I used to play 5-1 for a while and then stopped because I didnt like playing with those people. I keep myself in the 11-7 because that offers me the best results for the gameplay I like. Riggggghhhhttt ---- like somehow this was gonna work.
Thanks for trying tho, but this IS part (not all) of the community. No game is void of whining and complaining, some are just louder than others. No forum is without demanding, tactless posts, some people were not raised to be polite. The best you can do is set and example, because people luuuuuuuuvvvvvv being told what they can and cannot do. Strive to keep things civil, stay on subject and offer advice. If that doesnt work, maybe you can make a few people laugh. Its hard yo be sad/angry when someone is making you laugh. Anyway... I wish you luck. -
4 versus 1 ... Imagine it as D&D, the experience points get "divided" up (not literally) amoungst the party.
The killer is the Big Bad Evil Guy, he doesn't have to share his.Controversial Statement -> The game-play favors survivor, the BP favors killer.
-
Oh look at this! Survivors crying because they cant find matches, but they will go to great lengths to throw toxicity at Killers, then wonder why said killers avoid them. Every action has an equal or opposite reaction. It was only a matter of time. As if a killer is just going to host you because you want a GG-EZ. Phhhfffttt... If ya'll would play a bit more respectfully you wouldn't get ducked. (Dont worry, I wont duck you. I'll just bring my Legion to your SWF and watch ya'll rage quit one by one. Legion was made for this.)
-
Hangman's Trick is what you want my friend, I believe it is a Pig perk however, if you dont have her leveled/bought yet.
-
Some people just can't decide if Legion is good or sucks. Some want them buffed, others want them nerfed, that's why Legion is probably never going to get touched one way or the other because the community can't come to a general consensus.
Lastly latency could be your issue on hatches. What you see as a clean get away, the killer may see yer butt sticking out ... Grabs are always in favor of what the killer sees (to clarify, you are not gone, until the killer sees you are gone, otherwise hatches are a bish, I never get hatch grabs.) This is just my experience, not really to be taken as fact. I have watched hatch-grabs on youtube and this is what makes sense to me. Anyway, I'm sorry you are having a rough time, maybe take a break and play something else for a couple of days? ... It works wonders for me.
-
Tought you guys hated killers anyway
now you dont have to deal with toxic killers! Try 4 man-ing without a killer, ya know? Do gens, no killer, no risk.. very fun! Oh wait .... -
