Idk, I really like this game a lot, I play it constantly except these days, I took a week off the game since if I play survivor I get tunneled or facecamped to death and I refuse to use DS.
When I play killer I usually read survivors like a text book since there aren't that many good survivors.
I'm a pvp gamer and the disadvantage of being in a 1v4 is the reason why I keep playing.
Plus over the years this game has improved a lot except bug wise.

except bug wise AND optimization wise

Well, consider me lucky but i rarely get tunneled so it's not worth the perk slot in my case

oh, so then why do they have to work on the animations for the higher camera pov? just move it to his head and the hands will move accordingly, no?
Nope, just raising the pov isn't enough.
They have to rework his first person animations too or else it would look really weird and awkward.

I dunno..
If survivors can take away Hex perks & counter stuff like BBQ, shouldn't killers be able to have a chance at doing the same with exhaustion perks?
Well,in order to counter BBQ you waste a LOT of time not doing gens AND risk forcing the killer to proxy camp (because he might not see anyone with BBQ).
And Hex perks take a while to get found and destroyed (Well,as long as the totem spawn isn't too bad).
The survivors usually have to go out of their way to counter your perks while a killer with exhaustion addons doesn't have to in order to counter exhaustion perks
-
While it is nice to have exhaustion addons to deal with perks like dead heard,i also realize that 1 addon being able to counter 1 of 4 perks from survivors is too good.
Getting a decent anti-exhaustion perk would be more fair imo.
-
I thought that the game would get much much better after BHVR was able to get away from Starbreeze :(

Never.Why would i?
Most of the time the teachables don't even synergize with each other or are just plain bad

You guys have no idea how it worked back a while ago, when killers dodged, the whole lobby was sent back to the queue screen. Has nothing to do with the post but it reminded me of those times.
This thing was THE worst.
You sometimes had to wait like 20-30 minutes if you wanted to play with friends and then boom, killer dodges the lobby because we are a SWF and then you would have to wait for a new lobby again

Yea, both of these changes don't make any sense, why was PTB Gearhead nerfed? Why was PTB Coup de Grâce nerfed? Nobody will ever know.
At this point i'm convinced that the devs are using this thing to make balance decisions
-
I think it was around 2018 and 2019 when i managed to get all my killers on full perks (and prestige 3).Can't exactly remember which chapter it was.
About 3-4 weeks i think until i get all new perks on my killers and the new one on p3 full perks. Can be slower obviously if i'm not in the mood to play DbD (like right now).
I think anything more than 6 killers could be too much

In the Descend Beyond PTB Summoning Stone blocked Pallets within 16 metres from your location when hitting a Survivor with Lethal Rush for 12 seconds.
But for some reason it got nerfed and currently blocks Pallets within 12 metres from your location when hitting a Survivor with Lethal Rush for 6 seconds, which is literally useless, because hitting a Survivor with Lethal Rush gives you a Fatigue that lasts for 3 seconds, and picking up a Survivor takes 3 seconds, so in that time the add-on already expired and did nothing.
Please revert it to the PTB version.
You ask the same people that also nerfed PTB Gearhead and PTB Coup De Grace :]

Or your 7-8 year old console hardware is hard to develop for simultaneously with a PC game thats still receiving updates in 2021
I've seen quite a few PC players that also had performance issues with DbD even though their PCs handled other much more demanding games just fine.
Truth is,this game is a poorly optimized mess

Knowing I've lost a game because of something triggering an FPS drops to screw me over is so frustrating. Think the fact there's a post (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/187573/console-optimization/p1) that has console players listing the many triggers on both sides shows how bad optimization is for console. That weekend they removed bloodlust was so nice to not deal with that fps drop trigger.
Thanks to the lack of optimization it has made more ps4 players turn off crossplay so wait times with crossplay off are pretty nice.
Yeah, absolutely agree. There's nothing more frustrating than losing games because of those FPS drops >:(
They even knew the triggers since at least March 2020 https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/138799/fps-horrible-on-ps4#latest
It's embarassing and pathetic at this point.Optimization is still such a HUGE issue in this game but BHVR just chooses to do nothing whatsoever and doesn't even tell us why.
I guess being forced to pay 500€ for a next gen console is good enough for them :>

Not to split hairs here but @OniWantsYourMacaroni
Aiming to do something isnt the same as promising. That being said I dont own a Playstation 4 nor Xbox One.
Sure, but the problem is that there's pretty much no progress on optimization. The FPS are still extremely unstable.
And FPS drops (e.g getting bloodlust 1,getting hit with sloppy butcher/noed/freddy,someone using an exaustion perk, someone looting a chest etc.) is still a HUGE issue, that constantly affects gameplay in the worst possible way.
Here is just one example:

Now that's just wrong. I'd ask for a fix but... uhh... I think we all know that outcome of that one.
Thing is,the devs already promised us stable 60 FPS for december 2019...
After all this time they couldn't even fix these FPS drops and we get to hear absolutely nothing about the state of optimization.
It's infuriating to say the least

I don't play on console so I don't know what killers are like. I only know what I've heard. Are they bad?
Playing killer on console (PS4,Switch,Xbox One) can be extremely annoying because of FPS drops (often times when somebody uses an exhaustion perk, someone loots a chest, getting bloodlust 1 etc.)
Can't tell you how many hits or even games i lost because the FPS drop had to happen at the worst possible moment.
-
I absolutely love your post and it's 100% true.
One of the biggest problems with BHVR is the lack of communication and transparency.
We never really know if our feedback is ever really important. Most of the time it just seems like the devs just force their changes no matter the feedback (as you already explained).Naturally this leads to a lot of built up anger and frustration towards BHVR.
If they truly want to make this game the best then they have to realize that it does not only need the company for it but the community as well. Both need to work together hand in hand.

Let's be real here.. the only reason why "color blind" mode was being forced to their priority is because of the negative press they started to receive. They state "this is not how we wanted to reveal this" because it was never actually their priority; hence why it won't be ready for 4.5.0. Because of Steven Spohn, Polygon.com picked up the news story regarding our outcry and made an entire article on it.

Like I said, as a player I totally agree. But the last time they were transparent about their intentions regarding optimisation, it caused one of the biggest "devs are liars" blowups in the game's history because they were unable to turn their hopes into reality within the projected timeframe - and, to my knowledge, still haven't succeeded in that particular instance.
So I guess what I'm saying is I can see both sides. Particularly when it comes to things like accessibility options, I totally agree it would have been nice to hear something about it sooner - if not an explicit "we're working on it", then at least some more concrete assurance that they were taking it seriously and doing everything they could to find ways to make it happen. If they had done that, perhaps this whole incident with Almo could have been avoided, who knows. I've never been a Community Manager, and I've heard it's a lot harder than it looks, so I personally feel it would be presumptuous for me to tell them how to do their job. But at the same time, I can understand how situations like the one I mentioned above would make them hesitant to be transparent in their communication on any changes, just to be really safe. Not saying I think that's the right decision, just that I have some sympathy for it because I can see what led them to that conclusion.
Regarding optimization:
They handled it the worst possible way.
They promised us 60 FPS towards the end of 2019.
And nothing improved since then.We still have to deal with unstable FPS and those horrible FPS drops (getting hit with noed/sloppy butcher/freddy,getting bloodlust etc.)That is an extremely important issue that heavily impacts gameplay experience for console/lower end pc players.
And we don't even get any kind of info from them.
The last thing we heard from optimization was when i was asking them in the last Q&A if they could ever fix the FPS drops. And their response was very lackluster (33:33)
https://youtu.be/AEV42WUJpoU(BTW the FPS drop when looting a chest wasn't fixed)
Dealing with this is not fun:
https://youtu.be/W1TlMcbNT4sLike,it's been over a year since they promised us 60 and absolutely nothing got done.
They shouldn't have raised expectations so high and then just drop it.It's their fault and it's one of the reasons why i completely lost any respect for BHVR.

-
@Fibijean said:
As a player, obviously I wish we knew more about what goes on behind the scenes.
But I've witnessed them do exactly that in the past, and I've seen the fallout. If they announce that they're working on something before they're ready to release it (even if they don't announce a release date and/or are very clear about the fact that it might not happen or might be delayed), one of two things happens: it turns out they can't do the thing, or the thing is going to take longer than expected, and they get accused of breaking promises and lying to their players.
Or, second possibility, they can do the thing, and they do, but it's not in the next patch because nothing is ever released six weeks after they start working on it (which, as I understand from close friends and family who are software engineers, is not that unreasonable, but simply how pipelines work in large companies). Players who don't understand that get upset and, at best, start heckling the devs for being too slow, and at worst, assume they're lying or breaking promises as above.
So do I wish they were less secretive? Sure, that would be nice for me. But when I think about past PR disasters that have come about as a result of them being more transparent, I don't feel like I can really blame them for choosing to just keep their heads down and communicate only when they're 100% sure about something. I would probably do the same in their position.
I would agree it's better to be a bit more hesitant when talking about certain things.
However, there are other topic that need more and clear communication.Topics like accessibility options and optimization comes to my mind.

Shouldn't they announce things like that somewhere?
Seems quite important to me
That's a perfect example of poor communication from BHVR
-
Oh my,never seen you opening a thread O.O
@Topic you and i both know that one of BHVRs biggest problems is proper communication.
Another thing is that it seems like BHVR doesn't care about feedback most of the time.
And even the whole colorblind response felt more like damage control kind of thing. It could have been avoided but BHVR chose not to do so.

Im glad you guys are introducing it! My problem was how almo handled it personally, and it caused a lot of backlash which got some pretty big people in on the drama. I personally have a bunch of friends who are glad they finally can get into the game without being at a massive disadvantage. I wouldnt call it bullied more though than kinda damage controlling since the dbd twitter said pretty much "we didn't wanna announce it but here you go". Doesnt excuse what he said but at least people get what they wanted.
Yeah i agree,
it's awesome that colorblind peopke will finally be able play this game without major disadvantages.
But this whole thing really did feel like it was rather more of a damage control kind response than a genuine effort to support colorblind people.
And i don't understand either why they didn't said that they had technical difficulties implementing colorblind modes.
I don't know, this whole scenario could have been easily avoided if BHVR would be more communicative and transparent towards the community

Its hard to say what they can/cannot work on considering we don’t have any idea of what goes on behind the scenes.
I would rather be surprised than let down because they “promised” something and didn’t deliver. Having played other games where developers also seemed secretive about what they worked on, I am just assuming that is the reason for not sharing what is deemed as not ready to be shared.
Hmm,i guess that's just preference at this point.
But i think it would help the devs if they would be a bit more transparent about things like colorblind modes.
That way the community would feel acknowledged and be more understandable even if they fail to implement it as long as they explain why.
-
@Johnny_XMan said:
From my experience many developers specifically choose not to share certain things in regards to changes to the game, mostly because many times those changes are in very early stages in the works.
Imagine if they had announced that color blind feature was coming soon, only to later find out they weren’t able to make it possible.
I’d rather find out when they are ready to announce.
Imagine if they had announced that color blind feature was coming soon, only to later find out they weren’t able to make it possible.
I would be extremely surprised if they wouldn't be able to implement colorblind mode.
Also,it's much better to hear they are trying to work on it than getting absolutely 0 info.
