Devs said that they aren`t planning to put killers like that into the game.

Too bad, IMO. I would like seeing The Slenderman or any other monstrous killer. But alien definetely isn`t in that list. He does not fit the game lore at all and, as @LCGaster said above, he would not fit other maps and other killers would not fit Nostromo.

Sure that makes sense. But does a mentally challenged WWI era Russian woman who hunts people for sport, and an ancient Mesopotamian undead priestess fit any better in a 1990s Canadian ski resort or 1970s American suburbia?

We already have significant tonal differences between killers. A scfi killer wouldn't be a big of an issue as people make it out to be.

  • They can add crossplay once the Switch version arrives. The only issue is Sony. So far only 4 games have or will have crossplay on PlayStation 4. Three of which are published or owned by Epic while the other one is COD.

But maybe they will add PC-Xbox-Switch-Mobile crossplay and say screw it regarding Sony?

  • Considering how close they are with Lionsgate, they seem the most likely candidate for making a DbD movie. With that said I'd prefer Blumehouse, A24, or Netflix to be the one to make the movie. Those three have been responsible for the majority of good horror films that have released in this decade of "horror renaissance."

  • Even as someone who thinks SWF is OP, I have no problem with what is essentially a QOL update. The game allows you to form a lobby with your friends, so doing so should be convenient as possible and without quirks.

  • Twitch chat is worthless garbage most of the time. That's if you can even read it because most of the time it goes by too fast to do that.

I just think it looks too gimmicky and not practical. The traps would have to be extreme to counter looping effectively.

I also dislike that his invisibility is basically gone. He's only really getting it from far away which is pretty irrelevant. If he had the stuttering in and out at close range now that might be a loooping counter, but alas it doesn't.

It's not like his invisibility helped him against anyone but rank 20 survivors.

  • Freddy 2.0 is amazing. He's now a threat in the dream world.

  • @Blueberry said:

First impression he looks quite weak. We already know how effective a slowing trap will look from Clown.

That gen teleport will be great against gen rush though.

  • They are getting rid of longer 'safe' loops and replacing them with more mindgameable smaller loops.

So maps will end up having more loops by the end of next year. Not exatcly a survivor nerf. It's just they will all be mindgameable now.

This is a good thing. Especially for the low tier and non-chase killers who struggle with loops.

  • I'm most excited for the stuff they said hasn't leaked. So the map changes, year 4 roadmap, and Freddy 2.0 excite me the most. Here's hoping we get new cosmetics, and voice lines with the new Freddy.

Imagine this game actually being scary again...

I don't think I could handle dealing with a Squadette in VR. Too terrifying. 😫

But in all seriousness, a first-person VR mode for survivors would be interesting.

  • Nurse, Billy, are Spirit are good even without add-ons.

Hag, Myers, and Huntress are 'viable' without add-ons but will still struggle against good survivors.

All the other killers are in a bad spot with Leatherface, Freddy, and Trapper being in trash tier.

Many solo players will not use voice chat even if it is in the game by default.

I certainly wouldn't. I am not interested in talking to random people on the net.

I play Overwatch a lot. it has built-in voice chat. Ask me how many times I have used Overwatch voice chat.

This is not a solution. Killers need to accept that in an online game, there will always be people better than you and who will play better than you. And that in an asymmetric game, there is no real thing as balance. Some people will play to their strengths better than you will, and sometimes that strength will directly counter yours.

Live with it, deal with it, move on and play your next game.

Killers like to act like they are such victims and how every game is a 4-man Squadette that is out to bully them. We all know this is not true, both from playing as Killer and from BHVR's own official stats.

Overwatch, like most other online games were balanced around both teams having voice chat. DbD was balanced around 4 survivors unable to talk with each other. When the devs added SWF, and 3rd party voice chat with it, they made the survivors the power role and not the killer.

The game becomes easy peezy with voice chat.

Now I don't want to spill any beans, but I would highly recommend watching the stream this Friday for the map rework bit.

I hope we're getting more maps per realm. Sucks how unique realms like Gideon Meat Plant and Mount Ormond Resort only have one map to them while Coldwind Farm has 5 maps.

  • Trailer was cool. Too bad about no Scream content. I wonder if the devs will talk about why Lantern Entertainment said no on the livestream? Seems weird they didn't want to be involved. It would have been free advertisement for the Scream brand.

  • There will be no Scream content sadly. For whatever reason, the devs could not get agreement from Lantern Entertainment, the owners of the Scream IP, to do so.

Funworld owns the mask and the Ghostface name, not Lantern Entertainment, which is why they can still use him.

  • @twistedmonkey Solos and killers were instalocked out of what they bought when SWF was forced into the main and only gamemode without taking balance into account. What about them?

  • @Shad03 said:

As a person who plays mostly killer, I would suggest you hold off saying how easy survivor is when you are in rank 20. Trust me it gets harder.

Funny enough the official stats disagree with this. The higher you go up in rank the higher the survival rate.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Leatherface is what's really broken. He can instadown people on command and he can control his chainsaw easily unlike Hillbilly (who takes tremendous amount of skill) who has to time his chainsaw correctly and has a much harder time controlling it. There's no reason to m1 with LF when you can instadown survivors with m2. Can't believe they left him this broken for so long.

I'm aware of that. Since when did 'chapter and 'paragraph' become interchangeable ?

When the devs decided that. It's their game they can do whatever they want. Logic and previous naming rules be damned.

I am disappointed the live stream schedule seems to confirm no Scream involvement as was speculated. Only Fun World is on board.

I wonder why Lantern Entertainment said no? They have the upcoming season 3 of the TV show (which secured the rights for Ghostface from Fun World) later this year. Having Scream IP in DbD would've been great marketing.

Hopefully the positive reaction to Ghosface in DbD will convince them to give the devs the black robe from the films, Sydney Presscot, and maybe the masks from the TV show and Scary Movie at a later date.

  • Pinhead most of all.

I’d also like to see Candyman, Chucky, Dracula (Lugosi Version), and Sadako (Ring)

  • @Peanits said:

There's still stuff you have not seen yet. We don't keep all of our eggs in one basket. It should be a pretty interesting if not entertaining stream.

I'd be surprised if anyone mains Leatherface and doesn't use him ironically with a basement build...

I play him a lot without resorting to basement builds. It doesn't end well for me. πŸ˜₯

  • Leatherface and Trapper are the worst killers in the game. Freddy was not as bad as everyone thought. The memes got out of control. He's amazing at stalling if you play him using a hit&run strategy.

  • The devs do not comment on leaks. So you wont get an answer sadly.

  • Give us Freddy 2.0 @Peanits You can do it!

  • I was once accused of "gen camping." This was back when I first got the game.

I was playing as Pig on a swamp map and I found 2 survivors working on the generator on the big boat. I began chasing one them while the other ran off. We we're looping around the gen when I saw the other survivor had started working on the gen again. I started to chase that survivor instead. While chasing this survivor, the other survivor went off to heal only to renturn back to the same gen. I saw them and began chasing. On and on this went untill I finally downed one of them.

  • Making the gens take longer to repair would be a boring and terrible fix. Finding parts or gas cans would be much better.

  • Nice post OP, here are some of my suggestions:

They need to make gens more difficult to do. Many have suggested finding parts (BNPs) hidden across the map before you can start to (or finish a) repair. As of right now they go way to fast. This is the games BIGGEST problem and the source of all others.

As you've said maps need to encourage more juking/stealth and less looping.

Survivors should have Kindred and Buckle-Up as baseline abilities. Add a totem counter. These changes would help close the Solo-SWF gap.

Rework Nurse. Remove the possibility of Insta-saw Billy. Buff everyone who's not Nurse, Billy, Spirit, Myers, Huntress, and Hag.

Buff Diversion and Saboteur to encourage more diverse gameplay on the survivor side. Maybe add limited piles of pebbles around the map to allow survivors to use diversion without the perk.

Add a new rare type of chest that is guaranteed to have higher levels of items. All chests now can contain a small number of shards (5-50) and bloodpoints (1,000-10,000).

Allow killers to ignite a dull hex totem to replace a cleansed totem.

  • @Asssthetic said:

@Okapi I could see Pinhead coming to the game since the sound files that were datamined don't belong to the Scream chapter but to a different killer. But all those characters you added to the "could easily happen" list do not fit in with the game simply because of character model issues or because they actually do not make sense to add to this game.

All the killers under the could easily happen section are all humanoids, of normal size (5-7ft), and none of them are tied up in legal issues. How do they not fit in the game?

Sadako and Kayako are both vengeful Japanese ghosts like the Spirit. Dracula, the Monster and the Wolfman are the original classic monsters that gave birth to horror movies. The environment of the Entity's realm with its fog, moonlit forests, and desolate buildings are no different from the Universal horror films of the 1930s.

Resident Evil is the biggest horror video game series out there. A crossover with DbD would be cool. Mr X. whole shtick is he's a slow moving killer who uses brute force to kill his victims. He already acts like a DbD killer. Nemesis is more of an oddball but I'm sure the devs could balance his rocket launcher like they did with hatchets and plague vomit.

Slenderman is the oddest of the bunch. He's an entirely supernatural being but if Freddy, and Pinhead maybe, can work why not Slenderman?

  • Even after Ghostface their still are a lot of iconic horror characters left. Here's a few that I think could fit gameplay wise in DbD based on how likely they are to show up:

A Matter of When not If:

    Pinhead (Hellraiser)

    Candyman (Candyman)

    Could Easily Happen:

    Slenderman (Slenderman)

Nemesis or Mr. X (Resident Evil)

    Sadako (Ring)

    Kayako (The Grudge)

    Dracula (Dracula)

    Wolfman ( The Wolf Man)

    The Monster (Frankenstein)

    Unlikely:

    Xenomorph (Alien)

    Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th)

    Chucky (Child's Play)

    Freddy (Five Nights at Freddy)

Creature (Creature from the Black Lagoon)

    Alma (F.E.A.R.)

    Highly Unlikely:

    Predator (Predator)

    The Creeper (Jeepers Creepers)

    Pennywise (It)

    Carrie (Carrie)

    The Thing (The Thing)

Until Horror Inc. and Victor Miller come to an agreement on who owns what in the series (a district judge ruled that Victor Miller owns the rights to things created in the first film) there's no rights even to be sold at this point. Last I checked, Horror, inc withdrew their initial appeal of the verdict, with the option to refile the appeal later. I think they might be in arbitration currently? Not sure on that.

Both sides have to be in talks right now because why else wouldn't Horror Inc. not choose to appeal? They have more money than Miller and could force him into financial distress with a lengthy drawn-out appeal leaving him with no option but to enter into an one-sided deal with Horror Inc.

  • I'd love for this to be a Scream Chapter and not just a Ghostface Paragraph but considering the clear absence of any Scream stuff (the black robes, Sidney, a Woodsboro map) in the leaked dev build I'm preparing myself for the worst.

Well the MvC infinite issue is an altogether different story. The game came out before the X-men license returned to Marvel and Disney's ownership. It was in a legal holding pattern during and after the game's development. So they couldn't put them in and then the game itself lost support from both Capcom and Marvel. So putting them in after the license issues were settled just became a non starter. If they were to make another game now they could very likely sort out X-men characters being in said game.

Fox only owned the film license for X-men, nothing else. Marvel/Disney could've allowed Capcom to use the mutants in their game but Disney was being petty. When Disney bought Marvel they disallowed X-men games from being made in an effort to lower the value of the X-men brand for Fox. Disney wanted to see the X-men films fail so it'd make it easier and cheaper to buy the film rights back.

Of course they ended up buying the entirety of Fox. Now we see X-men characters appearing in that Nintendo Avengers game.

Where were you when I was posting a thread saying how amazing an Alien chapter would be? πŸ˜„

I think an Aliens Chapter is a matter of when not if. It's a major horror franchise and would be hype. I know the devs have said no animal killers but they also said such things like no Clowns, no Switch port, and no dedicated servers. The devs can change their mind.

  • A Predator would work easier than an Xenomporph for DbDs gameplay. Give them two powers: a cloaking-tracking ability and a lazer wrist blaster. He'd be a cross between Wraith and Huntress. Though I'd still prefer an Xenomorph because the Aliens franchise does delve into horror whereas the Predator films have always been cheesy (and mediocre outside of the first one) action films.

  • Sure I could see DbD on the PS4 loosing a few players when this game comes out. Just like when any other game releases. But unless Predator is the same game play wise as DbD and does it better DbD has little to worry about it.

Another serious gritty FPS restricted to one IP is not going to threaten a crazy crossover horror game that appeals to casuals and is not a FPS.

  • @AshleyWB said:

If Predator HG is decent and it does stay on ps4. That isn't bad news. Sure you will lose some dbd players to Predator HG but you would attract more and if you are more able to retain new players then that is a success.

Retention is vital and Predator HG may be an opportunity to attract new players.

Also no-one knows what dlc/base game content will be in Predator HG. They could have the terminator, Alien, originally made stuff and others. They will develop too if they start right.

They aren't going to add Terminator in a game called Predator: Hunting Grounds. It's like expecting Micheal Myers to show up in the Friday the 13th Game. It's not happening.

Disney owns Fox and the Predator license now. They are very picky when it comes to how their IP is portrayed. If this game is meant to be an authentic Predator experience adding other IP will destroy that and Disney won't like that.

Disney wouldn't even let EA add extra costumes for heroes in Battlefront II for god's sake! Or let Capcom use X-men mutants in MvC: Infinite. I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything too crazy in this game.

To add on to your point, even a game that does well is unlikely to leave Sony's cold deathgrip. Bloodborne, The Last of Us and Horizon Zero Dawn are all solid examples of that.

To be fair those 3 games were published by Sony, and their IP is the property of Sony. Sony doesn't have to release these games on another platform. But they could, like Xbox does, and they could also release Sony-funded third party games too.

They won't, as Sony wants people to buy a PS to play their exclusive games. Unlike Microsoft who has profits coming from Windows 10, Xbox, Microsoft Office, Game Pass, Azure servers, and soon XCloud. Sony is solely financially dependent on PlayStation.

  • @Okapi said:

If Sony is funding the game it's never coming to another platform. Do you expect Insomniac's Spider-Man game to come to Steam or Xbox any time soon? Sony does not play nice like Microsoft does with their 'exclusive' third party games. You'll never have a Cuphead on Switch moment with Sony.

Hell just take a look at Street Fighter V, a multiplayer game of an iconic franchise developed by a major AAA publisher. It had a poor launch as a Sony console exclusive 3 years ago. Even though it would be a huge benefit for Capcom for the game to launch on Xbox One (a platform of 40 million consoles) that hasn't happened. Why? Because Sony helped fund the game.

If Capcom of all developers can't even get out of a Sony contract I doubt an indie studio like Illfonic could.

  • @AshleyWB said:

Predator HG seems like a big budget deathgarden with the capacity to deliver more The asymmetric nature of Predator HG will surely attract a lot of dbd players.

This could be dbd biggest rival in the future, Dbd has until 2020 to get this game right in terms of variety and player retention. They can do it but only if they recognise this may become a problem if not addressed.

Predator HG could be a decent game, it could eventually come to all platforms. It would give the asymmetric genre more traction which would benefit dbd, but dbd players will stop playing dbd and play Predator HG instead if nothing changes.

  • The Preadator game will be a FPS and is only releasing on the PS4. DbD is not a FPS and is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and soon Nintendo Switch. DbD will be fine. By 2020 I'm sure the game will see even more improvements from its current state.

  • The game is now playable when using my GPD Win 2. Survivor runs great, though killer still needs some work. But the fact I'm able to play DbD on the go is insane. Mabye the Switch port won't be a disaster after all?

  • I'd rather see the devs break their "no doll or child killers" rule so we can get Chucky. He'd take a bit of work but man oh man would he be amazing.

  • They would have no trouble having crossplay and cross-saves between Steam-Switch-Xbox players. They'd have to disable Bill on Xbox and Switch is all. Sony is the real problem.

Considering Sony has only allowed 3 games into their crossplay 'beta' I'm not sure if DbD has the clout to get it from Sony.
