Forget about Legion for a second. That interaction would have been amazing on literally anyone! And it would further encourage not tunneling and camping!
you can't forget about Legion, they exist - and as I said I'd rather prefer have a perk (Nemesis) that can work with an underwhelming killer instead of forcing Devs to nerf even more Legion, for example by forcing mending timer to stop in close proximity of them, no matter the TR.
Also the name of the topic is Forcing Legion Power to work, it's a bit too late to forget about it :P.
-
Actually I think that's for the best. A different interaction would make Legion just too strong to face, and promote proxy camping.
Instead like this Nemesis doesn't need to change and can open very interesting plays, which can be countered as well.

The proc is whenever the Obsession changes.
Nemesis also changes the Obsession if you are stunned or blinded.
FYI it has been tested out and it doesn't work.
Nemesis only procs with stuns/blinds
-
It would make Legion simply unbeatable.
- hook someone (best if it's obsession)
- proxy camp
- deep wound the unhooker
- ???
- profit
I prefer this to not become a thing but have the possibility to run Nemesis by itself (and have survivor waste pallets here and there in exchange to not proc it) instead of a Nemesis nerf.
-
I think it's almost certain at this point BoP change won't go through.
Nemesis instead is fine as it is, it's 100% counterable and has very interesting interactions, not only with Legion (Rancor and Play With Your Food for example)
-
I completely disagree with OP.
Oni is probably the most inspired and multi faced killer they have ever introduced: completely new mechanics (blood droplets to fill the power gauge AND for tracking), new sound system, new dash mechanics..
ghostface introduced the leaning system and was one of the reasons behind the Undetectable introduction.
Demo has very unique trap interactions and mechanics (plus a gorgeous looking map :P..)
If anything, I’m impressed on how they are still keeping things fresh.
-
well let's not forget killers coming from the comics universe.
Imagine... Carnage
...and considering that the next Venom movie will actually star Carnage, who knows?

They wont. They have their heads to far up their asssses. It's a ######### joke at this point.
nah man, be respectful, they are people that do this for a living, and to follow a community is hard work, you can't expect them to reply to everything, and especially not as directly as we wish.
Also sometimes they would like to answer, but they are not able to because they can't just say what they themselves think. If a Dev speaks here, it's basically speaking for BHVR, you must be careful in what you say, they need special green lights.
That's why I'm asking @Almo to read the thread, not necessarily to reply to it :).

@Almo said:
The goal was not to nerf Legion. We decided the overall benefits were worth it, and the Legion effect was small. This game is large and complex; it's hard to change anything without affecting something else. So it's always a cost/benefit analysis.
No one was implying that you thought Legion needed a nerf.
The question (my question, at least) is:
if Legion doesn't need a nerf, BT doesn't need a buff, and two Legion add-on make mending unbearable, why not simply change the add-on?
Also you are exactly right: DbD is a game large and complex, that's why I don't see why a small change (add-on change) is not the first choice instead of a big one (status effect change), especially if you consider that you are affecting one of the most controversial killer right now.
P.S. I hope you understand I'm asking this with very good intentions. I'm sure you have your reasons for making one choice instead of another, it's simply that me, as a player, don't get the reason for it. Also I still hope you can find the time to read the topic I linked in my past reply :P.

I don't understand why Nemesis should proc with Furtive Chase, don't you still need to be stunned somehow?

The top mend time with Legion's two addons was ridiculous. So we considered, "What happens if we reduce mend time across the board?" Borrowed Time gets a buff, Legion gets a bit of a nerf, and some other things showed up on the list. We decided it was worthwhile to hit it across the board.
As always, we'll monitor the effect that has on the game, and act accordingly in the future.
I don't really understand the line of thought:
- Did BT need a timer buff?
- Did Legion need a nerf?
I think everyone would agree that the answer is no.
If some add-on combined were ridiculous, then why not change the add-ons (duh!)?
Also, what about the basic attack change? Can you please read here?
-
oh, I didn't see the new perk Nemesis.
...then tell me consistency is not dangerous :P.

No only the Demogorgon, with the Pig you just hold M1 while crouched.
Anyway I think what separate special and basic attacks is when the attack is the actual power. In the case of the Wraith, for example, the power is the cloaking. It might let getting hits easier, but the hit itself is not part of the power. Same with all the others mentioned.
In the case of Legion instead, FF changes the nature of the attack, allowing it to apply a status effect to waste survivors' time, so it can't be counted as a basic attack. If that is a good thing or not is questionable.
Again, you are trying to follow a consistency different from mine (in my case it's inputs, in yours is behaviour).
You are not wrong, and I'm not either, it's just different interpretations - your being the ones Devs are choosing to follow. But at what cost?
That's where my suggestion stems from.

I don't have any of them, I thought that they would charge with M2 and attack by releasing it.
Well, then change it to attacks using M1 without having M2 pressed at the same time, is it how it work for them?
in basic pseudocode (it's not meant to be a working example, just to visualise the logic):
-
@White_Owl said:
What you want is to define Basic Attacks as attacks using M1 (or: base attack trigger).
Legion attacks with M1, not with M2, and that also applies for all the other cases above.
I don't think that would be a correct definition, since both Pig and Demogorgon use M1 to do their special attack.
I don't have any of them, I thought that they would charge with M2 and attack by releasing it.
Well, then change it to attacks using M1 without having M2 pressed at the same time, is it how it work for them?
-
note that I'm not talking about Beast of Prey - Legion interaction simply because it's implicit in the Deep Wound paragraph - but it's obviously a huge reason why it's easy to understand why consistency may be a problem.
A possible solution: rework BoP to gain bloodlust faster or add a slight speed boost for every bloodlust level - no Undetectable effect. But maybe it was already like this in the past, I don't remember...
-
We don’t talk about the PTB.
Probably they still need to balance things out, there will be a landing page when everything is ready.
I can’t wait to see how Spirit changes work out, and if there are other changes waiting ahead... something tells me they’re saving the best for last!
-
@Rydog said:
They probably thought of this, and tried it, and it didn't work out the way that you think it would.
Believe me, the answer to "why didn't the developers think of this?" is usually "they did, but either they couldn't do it, or it actually wasn't very good," and it's way, way, way more common than the average player thinks it is.
I don't know if I agree with this. The broken mechanics of old Legion were
- mending timer regressing when not in a chase
- mending timer regressing on multiple hits (with the correct add-ons one would have needed just two FF)
- no penalty for missed attacks
Those three things together meant that if a killer wanted to down a survivor there was simply no way to escape him - no juke, no stalling, nothing.
Those three things were amended, but then there were huge nerfs in vaulting speed, ff mechanics (you can't use it if not fully charged), ff speed, increased terror radius... the only serious buff he received to counter act the nerfs was his base movement speed.
Too many changes, too debilitating - I seriously doubt that in their internal playtests they are able to discern what is enough and what isn't. I mean, they didn't think about the following a deep wounded survivor without chasing him in the first place ;).
And now they remove Save The Best For Last :(

I’m a rank 6 survivor and now that rank reset has come I’m playing a lot of gf. I just can’t beat him. I honestly think he is a A tier killer. He’s basically Myers 2.0. How do you counter him!!! Whenever I legit stand in front of him and look at him he always gets the exposed off before I can actually turn off his power. Please help! I also think that when a survivor is looking at you as gf, it should not give a indication on where the survivor is. Cause no matter what your going to find them.
Spine Chills + Lithe
Spine Chills
be very ware of your surrounding, when you see that cat light up you must be able to guess with relative precision from which direction gf is coming. Once SC activates don't wait, just start to walk away for a few meters. If SC seems blinking maybe he's chasing someone else, so you can decide if to risk and continue doing your generator or go somewhere else. If the perk is still active after you have walked a bit, don't wait - run!
Run in a straight line, don't care too much of LoS - in fact it may even be better for you to maintain visibility - if you can see him chasing you can break him out (but don't stop, and do it only if you don't have to use windows/pallets in the vicinity), if you don't see him well, he's not stalking you anyway.
Stop running only if SC has stopped for a few seconds, but continue to walk in the same direction for a bit, before resuming your duties.
Lithe
If SC was not enough and gf is gaining distance, find a window that is not too much out of the way - if there's none try to find a pallet that you can use to loop around the direction you want to go. In extreme cases you can even use the same pallet as the lithe trigger, but be wary of killers mind game - once you vault you have to commit.
End Goal
You just have to waste so much of his time that he simply decides to not care for you and go for someone else. He can't catch up with you if you start running away immediately, and if he catches up only to have you sprinting away when he was so ready to taste you... either he'll tunnel you for the whole game, or he'll just leave you alone.
...this being said, if gf is smart and actually leaves you alone, you'll still lose because everyone else will die and no gens will be done :P.
-
omg noob baby survivor, just watch tru3 counter play video! You just need to go near a pallet and DC before throwing it - now the killer has to guess if you rage quitted or just crashed.
You can even hard counter its DC perk with the new survivor's one: Save DC for Last Hook.
-
This killer is trash, you can just watch its USB port blinking just before it uses its power.

after

What sound bug?.... the shards glow and that's proven here....
Ehm... I've got to ask: have you watched the video till the end?
Because what's proven is that even if those shards do glow, they are basically invisible in normal condition.
That's also the reason why I asked for a clip with a basic skin by the way, because with the custom ones shown you just can't see anything :).

She was light post before and we saw how that turned out and we know why it was changed... you proved that the tell is there, thank god it has came from you Scott...
I don't necessarily disagree with you, but the main point for me (and I assume for @ScottJund as well) was not to say if the current situation is good or bad, but what actually is the current situation.
There was too much disinformation and ignorance.

I don't understand your answer - you're basically saying that everyone that stated you can already tell when Spirit is phasing, just watch her shards was lying?
Because that's the whole point: obvious = directly observable without aids. Shards with the school uniform skin are not directly observable in normal condition.
-
Finally someone takes the time to actually prove (or better, debunk ;)?) those alleged telltale of Spirit phasing.
It was so annoying to read those comments "I just look at her hair lol!!" - and me not noticing anything in game.
EDIT: @ScottJund, can you show us a clip of basic skin Spirit phasing at normal distance? Are her shards obvious in that case?

Sadly the way Archives are implemented is boring and promotes bad\unfun\frustrating\toxic gameplay (I don't know how this even reached the production environment). Someone can think "well, just ignore it and let's play as usual" ... I tried to do so, but I felt worse: everyone else was trying to do these damn Archives, ruining the game experience as usual, with the addition I was not doing it, wasting my time even more!
A possible solution to the problem is to match players who don't have an active Archives quest among them, and vice versa. This way everybody is happy: players who want to play normally can do so, and players who want to play Archives can have fun doing their quest with other players who find them fun too.
Sadly stopping playing for a couple of weeks, hoping that everything will pass, isn't a great solution because 1) I should play when I wanna play 2) in a few weeks there will be a new even more boring/frustrating/toxic/unfun tome. This thing isn't going to end ... 😔
It’s rank reset. Don’t tell me you don’t usually see bad/frustrating/toxic gameplay during rank reset, I wouldn’t believe you :)

Slugging would be; leaving a survivor on the ground until they bleed out and ignoring them for the rest of the match. Anyone comes for a rescue. Hunt them down, drop them and walk away.
Then go find pallets, generators and look for the hatch. While they stay there until the bleed-out timer completes. If they get up. down them again and leave them until the Skull appears.
slugging as a strategy is ok, slugging as you're explaining it (that is: basically never hook anyone even if you have the chance to) can be considered griefing, and can lead to a ban.
In other words, you tried to prove to some survivors that if you play like a troll you'll be unfun. Well, yes...?

Respectfully,
I could revise my statements a million times. But IMO I would start asking people why they rage quit and take it as feedback to the future of a game community. Overwatch just did their whole deal with Role Que and I can certainly say that I highly doubt they have 35 million players anymore.
I don't sit in the hot-seat and I am only a customer.
Since the topic of DC punishments and time-outs is posted. I am going to say that it is clear, and evident. Within the reason beyond a doubt. That this game has a DC epidemic. To me, that is the stars aligning, for what storm is to come. And, I would look at WHY people are leaving. at those key points in times. Just like we would look at "Ground zero". If I was to put my betting-chips on the "gambling table". I would say it is these reasons to the increase on rage-quits:
1 ) Killers being spawned on top of survivors.
2 ) Bad Aura-perk counterplay
3) End Game Collapse
4 ) "Safety nets" for survivors. (pallets, hatches, loops, window mechanics, Exhaustion perks).
5 ) The rank-gap reasons of why players left that match and bailed.
Im not here to troll or start an argument. But I would REALLY consider researching with player feedback. Just put a survey out and ask these questions. See where the day takes you. :-)
the answer to the question why are people leaving is simply because they can.
Probably what you really wanted to ask is why people get upset - ok, we can talk about it, but still you shouldn't be able to DC without punishment. If you (generic you) get so upset as to rage quit a pause from playing comes as a good thing both for you and your next team mates.
EDIT: just to elaborate a bit - players will always be pissed at something, there will never be a perfect balance and even if there would people would still rage quit for their mistakes. There's no reason - no reason - to DC. Even being held hostage is basically a myth - in 2 years of playing I was never being held hostage for more than a few minutes.

Basically Legacy 2.0, original Legacy owners still have their exclusive cosmetics, event/exclusive cosmetic owners now get a taste. Everyone wins!
to compensate people which have these cosmetics will go against the point of fighting the black market - the market will just be there not for the original cosmetic but for the compensation.
-
It's a pity we won't have anymore interesting events, but understandable.
If you think about it, the harder tome challenges get, the more of an event they become. The big caveat is that they will just exacerbate certain sides of the gameplay that are already in place (e.g. rush gens, search chests, blind the killer...).
Considering all the critics bhvr received due to the past Blight Event being something unrelated to doing gens / surviving I can understand why they picked this road, even if I don't like it :(

I don't know why everyone thinks I'm talking about buying a code. I actually traveled to get a Science Fair Claudette, and I earned the event exclusives through gameplay. Arguable the events are more gameplay based than charms, as you can just pay $70 and earn everything.
I'm not saying that you are talking about buying codes. I'm just stating the facts: devs want to fight the black market of those codes. That's not up to debate, it's exactly what they wrote in their dev update :).
-
@Mr_Digi said:
When it comes to the exclusives.. Give all for free, or none. its that simple...
Legacy is also exclusives. So if brazil claudette and gold feng min and event cosmetics are going to be free. so should legacy.. All or nothing...
please rething this decision devs. its just really stupid
Just cancel all the made codes... thats the fix you need
canceling the coded wouldn't help at all - unaware players could still be tricked into buying codes which won't work anyway.
Now you could say that it is there problem if they get tricked - that's your opinion, devs apparently think otherwise: you should always take the side of the weakest, in this case the ones being exploited. Be empathetic.

Can you make a statement as to whether charms earned in the rift will remain exclusive?
I think some of you don't really get why those items are now given away: to contrast the black market - that can even lead to exploitation.
Charms are earned through playing, not from codes, there won't be a market for that.
This being said, Devs already answered that they still haven't decided what will happen to charms, but (and this is my opinion now) they will probably be available to buy - but even if that happens it will be a long time after they are available through the Rift.
In other words, just enjoy your time exclusive cosmetics - when they will be available for anyone you'll be able to earn new ones :)

Basically for the reason you've said. You go to a window (like shack)- which can easily be dealt with through mindgames and knowing how to run the tile- and the survivor has literally no way to tell if you're actually vaulting or if you're just standing there. If they stick around to wait and see, it's too late. If they start running around and find out that you were really just standing there, it's too late. It's a blind gamble and something we'd like to avoid.
We'd like for the mindgames to be something you actually do, not something that just happens for you.
I completely agree with you - that's also why I'm a bit surprised you didn't add an animation for when just starts phasing (like nurse charging her blink) - is it still coming eventually?

The only challenge where you have to take questionable decisions is the self care one, but it is bugged and you just need to heal yourself once, even with a medkit, so that’s fine.

Using the chainsaw instead of mallet robs you of half your chaser points. The game also ended with 4 slugs at 3 gens to go, so I didn't get into as many chases as I could have, but got a large bonus to gatekeeper for gens remaining. Just wanna add... This was without ruin. Ruin isn't as required as many make it out to be, lol.
regarding Ruin: I suppose it depends very much on the killer. I usually play as Hag and even if Ruin lasts 30 seconds more often than not, it still is paramount to enable me to setup a good amount of traps without having 2 to 3 gens already ready to pop. Once the setup is complete Ruin is not that important.
When I play as Doctor instead I don't use Ruin at all, I just rely on difficult skill checks and Surveillance with a massive terror radius. And I'll go to hell for this, but that's another story.

slightly OT - how in the world did you manage to get iridescent gatekeeper but just silver chaser :O?

Yes I said the full name of the challenge in my title so I'm aware of what it is. You very much can waste pallets in a chase, especially safe ones.
My whole point is I hope they don't include this type of challenge in future tomes and future rifts. It might be a couple days of madness and then it's mostly back to normal but that doesn't mean they shouldn't even consider tweaking the challenge.
Also looting chests is not the same as wasting pallets.
again, if you are in a chase and you drop a pallet, you are not wasting it. At worst you are not very efficient, but if you care so much about efficiency you are probably high rank, and if you are high rank, you'll be fine :).
There's nothing to tweak here, dropping a pallet in a chase is an essential mechanic in DbD that players need to learn ASAP, making a challenge for it is a good way to encourage new players into trying it out.
