I agree with the sentiment, but unless people stop playing killer in large numbers, BHVR will think everything is fine and keep moving along with these kinds of changes.
-
We’ll see. The stagnant/declining player numbers over the past few chapters don’t seem to indicate overwhelmingly positive feelings about the current state of the game

It's official. The Skull Merchant sucks, nobody can use the excuse that it's clickbait from influencers or that we haven't gotten our hands on her yet. She's stronger than she was on PTB and she's still bad, downright atrocious. Some of the most boring gameplay we've gotten on DBD, even more snoozer than Knight.
Eruption got easily one of the worst nerfs I've seen in any game. The perk got nerfed so hard I think Blizzard would say you guys went to far, and they're the kings of killing strong strategies. They literally made a whole sequel to Overwatch just because they couldn't balance 6v6 gameplay and I don't think they would've went this far with Eruption. The entire screaming mechanic got changed, just to further nerf Eruption.
Tome 14 is sleeper. Could be controversial, but I've seen a lot of threads of people that just don't care about the cosmetics on offer this tome. IMO it's pretty lazy and stars a killer that not a lot of people like.
Wanna see what other people think, but as someone who's taken a step away from DBD in the past few months, I don't like the quality of content that's been coming out and I hope BHVR is willing to slow down production to make sure everything that is coming out is actually ready to be released.
All the negative feedback in the forums is great, but if you really want to see any change, just stop spending money on the game. That’s the only thing that will get their attention

So in the middle of the patchnotes there is just casually thrown in that on several perks and addons (INCLUDING MAKE YOUR CHOICE) you can now no longer hear the scream of a survivor outside of 19m range (you need to be 24m for make your choice), You only get a sound notification now instead of the survivor screaming.
WHY BHVR; LITERALLY NOONE ASKED FOR THIS.
I’ve seen it discussed a lot on forums and YouTube already. It’s getting attention. Almost universal negative feedback and exactly what you said. A stupid change that nobody was asking for
-
This kind of feels like a “jump the shark” moment for DbD. It sucks because I really do enjoy the game - I play it far more than any other game I own. But it’s becoming increasingly difficult to love the game when it’s just the same pattern from the BHVR team. Occasionally release a great update that most players love (like the solo queue improvements), but overwhelmingly spend time and resources on changes that are neutral to just downright terrible. Often completely disconnected from community feedback (like seriously, who was asking for survivor screams to be changed??)
I wish they would step back and see that they have a great product that doesn’t need major changes to succeed, just small improvements to make something already great even better. There’s no other game like this, and I honestly believe that they would continue to get new players and keep most of their player base for a long time by improving the existing constant and fixing some long-time issues that the community have been asking to be addressed. The constant addition of new content is more of a detriment to adding new players, IMO. I have friends who I game with that have no interest in playing this game because of how overwhelming it is for new players. Learning how to play as all these killers or how to counter all the killers they have to go up against requires a massive time commitment that turns off causal players.
I really hope that the response from the community for this chapter is a wake-up call for the BHVR team to consider a totally new approach for how they develop and make money from the game. I really believe that the current approach is taking it down a path to where devoted, long-time players will quit the game in increasing numbers, meanwhile making it more and more unattractive for new players.
-
I thought the game was in a decent place after the solo queue improvements, minus the fact that Dead Hard is still a scourge that the devs refuse to address (the last “nerf” did nothing to make it less powerful).
Then we get a new chapter with a very lackluster lineup of new content, combined with mind-boggling changes like this that make the game objectively worse to play.
This kind of stuff makes it really hard to believe that anyone at BHVR plays this game at all, at least enough to understand how their changes affect certain killers/survivors/perks.
-
This was classic BHVR. Spending time and resources ruining something that was totally fine and nobody was complaining about or asking to be changed.
-
@Emoba said:
Awful perk becomes even more awful. Thanks BHVR for your wondrous balance design decisions, once again.
It is pretty amazing that the questionable decisions seem to get worse and more frequent over time, meanwhile changes that the community are screaming for take years to implement or they just get ignored. BHVR have every right to manage the game the way they want, but stuff like this is just head-scratching. The stagnation/decline of player count in recent months I think is a signal that players are getting fed up with the repeated questionable changes/ignoring of community feedback.
-

For the scream thing, there was no feedback because it either got snuck in between the PTB and live or never got put on the PTB patch notes.
It's pretty difficult to give feedback on something you don't know is happening.
Example #1000 of devs making changes that nobody asked for

Idk man, the devs can't just do the things we ask for. There's a process for everything. U gotta think about the economic and production standpoint. This takes a long time. I'm not being a butt kisser towards the devs, but they do a pretty good job at keeping people entertained. People ask for extra game modes and such, we don't get them, and yet millions of people still play the game. Be in the devs shoes right now, on a business standpoint.
Millions of people play your game and buy your new chapters. You don't add in new game modes and people still play your game, still making $$$. So then what's the point of producing free new game modes that will surely take a lot of time and money, plus increase the size of the game, and probably break alot of mechanics, set back mmr making matchmaking horrendous, and add way more glitches and problems. Why do that when you can avoid it and still make just as much money.
Yep, this. They’re not going to invest a bunch of resources into things that don’t bring any additional financial return (or prevent the loss of revenue by maintaining the player base). So it’s understandable that the devs won’t just implement whatever the community are asking for.
I think what is less understandable is that the devs often seem to make changes that nobody asks for. Also, when they do address issues that are top issues from the community, they get options A, B and C from the community that are all really good ideas and they implement D instead which is the worst of them all.

As a survivor main something has to be done about these cheap tactics that killers love to defend. If you have to tunnel you’re bad and need to get better. If you hold a three gen from the start you are bad, if you camp at 5 gens ur bad. Tunneling and camping are stale strategies and killers do it for easy wins but god forbid a swf gen rushes for "easy wins" Killers are hypocritical and i’m over it. The tunneling and camping is genuinely draining the fun out of games for survivors. I haven’t even mentioned the slugging for the 4k all of this is not fun. Before anyone says "bring anti tunneling perks" The anti tunneling perks we have are trash. Ds is a joke. Otr is useless especially if you’re being tunneled bc of basekit bt once they hit you otr is gone.
Show us how to play killer and consistently win against coordinated SWF teams without tunneling, Mr Pro Killer

It's telling that the chapter is not exciting at all. The killer is boring and terribly weak, the perks are underwhelming (aside from Cut Loose) and the Red Forest update is purely visual while the map is still as big as before. While it's nice that they have given Shelter Woods (I'm a balanced enjoyer) a main building, it makes the map worse for many M1 killers (ironically this will hit the Skull Merchant the most) since the map is still as big as before. I jsut don't know what they wanted to achieve in this chapter but I feel like it didn't work out at all. After the Knight the Skull Merchant will be the next hated killer from both sides since the killer is weak and the main strat will be the boring hold the 3-gen from the start. The devs need to release a banger for the anniversary, otherwise it might die sooner than later. It cannot survive another bad chapter.
I feel the same way. Not going to play survivor for a while because it’s going to be match after match after match of the new killer. Lame

What do you like or hate about the twin survivors?
Is the reworked maps still too big or is the visuals enough for you?
Are you buying the chapter from the game store, with auric cells, shards or not buying it?
Will you buy the new outfits that are going to come with the update?
What are the builds you are going to run if you have the new perks?
What are your thoughts on anything and everything that is coming with the update tomorrow?
Go ahead and answer anything you want. I just want the honest truth.
Time to take a break from survivor for a couple weeks because it’s going to be the new killer in like 90% of my matches

Coal Tower and Wreckers' Yard are pretty much the only two maps that are actually balanced in the game currently.
It doesn't matter if you're playing a weak killer with no chase power/mobility, you're always going to have a great time on these maps.
Midwich is also considered a killer-sided map, but if you get a RNG that spawns 2 gens on the 1st floor and the other 5 on the 2nd floor, you're screwed.
agree - those are the two I was going to mention as feeling fair to me when I’m going against experienced survivors. For a lot of the other maps, especially when RNG is favorable to survivors, they can just chain together safe loops and run you for a couple of gens unless they make a mistake

They've kept this broken perk for 6 years and even after reworking it they made it even stronger when used near pallets and against certain killer powers. They'll never bury this perk for good, i think they read our posts about it daily and have a laugh saying "hey look, another dead hard post lol. Quality entertainment, let's keep it untouched for another 6 years"
P.S In all seriousness though, why would you want to destroy a perk that's literally a majority of your player base's favourite thing? Would be a dumb business move.
This is exactly why they won’t make it any weaker. They know if they do, a lot of players will leave. Content creators will quit playing because they won’t have their hilarious killer outplays by pressing the E button. DH is the survivor fun button - why would BHVR take the fun button away?

So, are you really going to lecture me about how this was clearly a skill issue?
It’s completely out of control and the only ones who don’t agree with this are survivor mains who never play killer and will also never play a match without DH because they would lose way more matches without it. At high levels, killers regularly have to deal with 5-10 extra health states on top of the advantage that survivors already get from communication in SWF teams.
how is this fair?

Almost 3 years ago, he got overnerfed in so many ways. If u take a look at all the character-wikis, you wont find any character spammed with Nerfs more than Freddy.
Some of you loved OG Freddy and want him back (buffed), some of you would like to see little Buffs / QoL to his current state. As always, I think both together could work.
But when will the devs finally do something for him, besides nerfs, nerfs, nerfs?
Nurse got her own chase music in january, Hag months before and so on. Currently, there are a few killers left with the Base-Music, so my hopes are high that everyone gets his own and in this moment, they receive attention from the devs for Addon-Passes, Rework etc.
What would you like to see happen to Freddy? OG "Pull into Dream"-Freddy without the 10sec nerf from 1.8.1? The current Freddy with Pallets and Snares Basekit, removing the immortality from alarm clocks for falling asleep? Something different?
If I saw it right, almost everyone here (which is a rarity) agreed that Freddy desperately need love.
I haven’t seen Freddy in months and I’ve been totally ok with that. Definitely in my top 5 most annoying killers to go against as survivor, although not as bad as Pinhead or Legion

Why can we not see our MMR? I've heard people say it's because it would lead to toxicity. People are already toxic and everyone is already convinced that they are in high MMR anyway. It would be nice to actually know where you stand.
The real reason they won’t show MMR is because it would reveal that the system doesn’t work at all, putting players together in matches that have no business being matched together for the sake of shorter queue times.

@Krazzik said:
The main issue is that there are heavily uneven maps, not neccessarily the offerings themselves. That said they certainly could change them to only increase the chance to get that map, not make it guarenteed.
Agree. The real problem is unbalanced maps. If the devs fixed broken maps, players wouldn’t be as upset about offerings
-
Because people still play the game even though it lacks basic graphics settings that are available in pretty much every other game. Unless it’s something that is going to bring in more revenue or prevent a major loss in revenue, the devs ain’t gonna work on it.

Well, as I said I'm giving up on trying to play killer.
Today I played 5 matches as survivor and only got one match with actually good teammates, then, I switched to killer, went to play ghostface an when I got a lobby... There where 4 survivors with matching names, 1 of them being a prestige 100, another one being a prestige 66 and the other two prestige 20, surprise, surprise, they were absolutely sweaty and bullied me, I mean, I'm not the best killer in the world but, I didn't stand a chance against them.
In my 5 survivor matches the highest prestige of any of my teammates was a 19...
Just dodge those lobbies. If the devs won’t make a fair matchmaking system, then you have to take things into your own hands.

Let me start off with saying that I am a killer main, (Blight, Spirit) but have played a ton more survivor over the last few months. When the new hud update came out for survivor it was a welcome change to buff solo queue. Solo queue needed it. But now that it has been out a month or so I've noticed some things that have me worried. First, for my region killer queue has the incentive for most of the day nowadays. This means (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) that there are less killers playing than survivors. Second, games in general have been a lot sweatier and WAY more stressful for killer. Survivors have gotten a lot better at looping and gens are faster than they've ever been. I think the general strat now is to each solo a gen and have 2-3 pop by the time a killer has found, chased, downed and hooked 1 survivor. Most games for me in both roles get to endgame with maybe 1 person dead if that. I feel like I am a lot worse of a killer than I actually am. I have just over 2k hours in this game and I have never had to deal with sweaty matches like this consistently every game. I feel like as the killer every decision needs to be perfect. Chases need to be 30 sec or less otherwise I lose the game. I can't waste time looking for people in the beginning and I can't try out new builds or experiment with some builds on my killers cause the game will be over before I have a chance to do anything. <- This point really makes me sad. I don't want to run slowdown every game but I feel like it is necessary now with how hard it is to get downs, hooks and kills. It takes less than 10 mins to pop 5 gens now so if you don't run slowdown you need to end chases really quick. Which is hard to do with survivors been so much better than before.
I genuinely think that most of the community has quit killer and I understand why. I need survivors to screw up in matches for me to get kills cause even in games where I play really well I might only get 2 kills. I literally had a game the other day where I got 9 hooks, 9!! and only 1 kill. Killer is really frustrating right now, I would even say unplayable.
I feel like there needs to be a mechanic that passively slows the game down for killer. Like have a mini Gift of Pain effect be basekit. This won't happen though cause the player base will complain that the Nurses, Blights, and Spirits are even stronger with this kind of change. The fact that this is the reason for not buffing killers is ridiculous. If you go against these killers all day then you are a pretty good player who is at high MMR. The rest of the player base deals with the weaker, more useless killers.
What do others think? I am the only one noticing this? Am I crazy? Do I sound like a salty killer main?
I would love to know.
i think the real problem is the extreme imbalance on the high MMR end and the low MMR end. On the high end, SWF teams will usually crush the killer, and on the low end the killer will usually crush solo queue teams. It seems so rare (at least in my experience) that there is a close match. Seems like the only way to try to balance that out would be to add some sort of comeback mechanics for both sides but I don’t have any great ideas for how to do that. Maybe gen speeds could be sped up or slowed down depending on how many gens left vs how many hooks killer has, for example.

Always the same. I can understand why people like to play this Nurse/Blight-Combination of a killer, but oh boy, its enough.
I dont like to call out "nerf killer XZY", but this guy is an exception. Reduce the distance for the dashes, let a dash-hit only infect no matter if u hit a wall or open field and only when already infected you can hit. Like Nemesis.
This guy is so unbelievable annoying to face, its unreal.
I dont pick him myself because I feel bad for the survivors to face this guy once again, even if he is actually fun to play as. You can say "your fault for not picking him", but I just feel the way I feel. I have problems picking this annoying dude when playing killer because I kinda feel with the survs.
I haven’t seen much of Wesker lately, and I really don’t mind going against him. I’d certainly take him over Pinhead, Legion or Nurse any day.

If you’re playing Pinhead I don’t feel sorry for you, at all. You make life absolutely miserable for solo queue players and you deserve this punishment

Yeah, exactly. The only thing that anyone was complaining about was insta-saw, but the devs decided to change a bunch of other things (in a bad way) that nobody was complaining about
-
What I don’t understand - at all - is why the pip/scoring system isn’t a much better measure of skill than kills and escapes. Based on my experience, my score as killer or survivor is good when I play well and bad when I don’t play well, regardless of whether I got kills or escaped the match. Yes, I realize that farming could skew the skill score, but that’s already true with the current system which can be manipulated when killers farm or just go AFK. The emblem system rewards players for doing all the things in the game that correlate to skill, while the current MMR system only uses one flawed metric of kills and escapes.
At the end of the day though, it doesn’t really matter anyway. Regardless of your MMR score, the matchmaking system is so biased in favor of short queue times that we still frequently see brand new players getting matched against semi-pros.
-
I played solo queue today and it was the worst experience I can remember. Did not escape a single match, and repeatedly matched with survivors who refused to touch gens. Whatever killers I was matched against I guarantee had a way better experience than you
-
You must not be playing against any of the teams I have been on in my solo queue matches. Half the time survivors will refuse to do gens or get off a gen and go hide if they hear the terror radius even though the status indicator shows someone else being chased. If you ever face a solo queue team that I am on, I promise you can win without tunneling.

Why don't they?
Is it enough to just cherry pick some stats and throw them at us?
What are the pick rates for killers at certain MMRs?
What are the hook rates per kill at various MMRs?
What about perk usage at various MMRs?
Why isn't such information readily accessible?
Can't they just make an API to access the data and have the community do the rest of the work? We already do the work with certain sites that allow you to track your games and the games of others who opt in.
Is it this foundationally difficult or expensive to do?
Because there’s no reason for them to. It’s not going to make more people play the game if they do release the stats, and there won’t be people quitting the game if they don’t release the stats. It’s only downside for them if they release the stats - it will take time and effort, and they’ll get a lot of criticism from the community when we see the real data.

why
. new chapter looks lame (another zoning killer i sleep)
. meta is boring (just kicking gens and 3 gen)
. devs are slow to update/ address problems
. maps/perks are unbalanced (5 pallets on shelter woods but 24 on the game rly devs)
. devs have no idea what they are doing anymore (wasting time/effort on uneeded changes instead of glaring issues)
. mmr exists in a game that has more RNG than mario party
. players are noticeably more sweaty (what is the cause)
. subtle cheaters and sus players (minecraft has a better anti cheat)
. most of the killers are boring to play/verse
So are you saying you don’t like the game?

As a Survivor Main, after 1,500 hours of Dead by Daylight, the only thing I find fun is looping killers.
And every time you release more anti-looping mechanics, you kill the only thing left that I find fun in DBD.
The Knight for example, his guards just ruin loops. I'd say I am facing a Knight every other game nowadays, and frankly it's boring. His guards aren't even affected by pallets or windows much, they just kinda go right through them really fast. It's so boring when a Knight just keeps spamming his ability to deny loops and down you quicker.
The game is already M1 simulator, but at least I can have fun engaged in chases with killers. At start of games, I will run into the middle of the map and do the hardest generator location on purpose, to initiate the first chase.
But anti-loop mechanics are just so boring and removes any incentive to launch this game up for me. It's gotten to the point, where I just don't even want to play against any anti-loop killer AT ALL.
Knight especially. I absolutely hate Knight's killer abilities with the Guards stuff. (don't @ me with stories of your low MMR games with crappy killers)
Have you thought about whether killers are having fun getting looped by you all game with nothing they can do about it except eat pallets and chase you to the next safe loop?

Why yes, that is two god windows right next to each other, why yes, Basement is there instead of a doorway, Why yes, I am playing Sadako without bamboozle
I had a DC at the start of the game and one of them (The Kate, who definitely earned it because they were a god in chase) still managed to escape because these windows simply exist
I repeat what I said the last time I showed off bad map RNG, how hard is it to stop two windows from spawning next to each other in a building like this?
There are still a ton of busted loops in the maps depending on the RNG. I also continue see pallets spawn about 5m from each other. Making it impossible for these god loops to spawn is something the devs continue to ignore and it’s really frustrating for killers.

Why is it on me to make sure you get your bloodpoints… No I’m not playing a game where I’m being bullied.. How is him slugging me and shaking his head at me getting him bloodpoints. How is him standing over hatch waiting for me and shaking his head giving him blood points. Then slugging me after he closed it be so serious. I didn’t do anything to deserve that. Kind of a funny thing to say considering its role not too long ago, but you guys get way too obsessed with the fact that it’s not a complete 100% without realizing how significant 75% noise reduction is. Ambient sounds exist ranging from your killer’s breathing, their own or the survivors’ footsteps, gens, or background noises like the howling winds on Lery’s. These sounds make the quiet grunts of pain very easy to miss, and even if you do hear them and acknowledge that there’s an injured survivor nearby, it’s still very difficult to determine where exactly in the environment they’re coming from. Can’t say “just turn up your volume” either, because when you turn up the volume, you’re not just increasing the volume of the pain noises, but of EVERYTHING. Every ambient noise, loud noise notification, or gen completion also becomes much louder, so unless your goal is to blow your eardrum out, that idea doesn’t help. And I haven’t even mentioned chase music. You’re basically using old Iron Will whenever you’re being chased by the killer with how loud killer music is. The only real weakness of this perk is the fact that it doesn’t function while Exhausted, which effectively limits how you can use it, although this just makes it a perfect companion for the most used perk in the game, you know, the one that you have complete control over when it triggers or not while injured that’s either gonna extend the chase or not, making IW turning off completely worth it for an additional healthstate. Honestly, the only exhaustion perks I wouldn’t run it with would be Sprint Burst and Overcome. If you want to get technical, an additional weakness would be that Stridor basically turns it off, but who tf runs that perk?
Iron Will is trash. Killer can just turn up their headphones to counter it

Killer mains sit on this forum and cry about strong SWF teams every chance they get, but when Solo Survivors are trying to adress the issues that makes them avoid Solo, they get attacked and told they should stop playing, that they are just ######### at playing or they are low rank. You go play Solo if you think it's that much fun then?
So…you get immediately camped/tunneled out of every match and somehow you’re able to get enough generators, hook rescues, heals, chases and escapes to pip up consistently to get to “red ranks” every month? Something isn’t adding up here…

I do not understand why tunneling and facecamping is not considered "taking the game hostage".. I paid for this game to actually be able to play.. Not to be tunneled out of every other match before I get to even touch a gen, or get facecamped the entire match , provide the killer with points while being beaten repeadetly on hook and get almost no BP for the "trouble".
I have very limited time to play between work and family-life and having to waste so much time on being held hostage on hook or being tunneled out of the game just to wait 5-10 mins for it to happen again is simply not acceptable. People are paying for a game they are being denied to play in way too many matches and I really don't understand this is considered a "valid strategy"? If it was only a match here and there I would be okay with it, but it's more common than not . I can't speak for the American servers, but on the EU servers, it's really really bad.
"We tunnel and camp cause we get genrushed".. No.. you tunnel and camp cause it's easy and the points makes it worth it. Almost every killer starts hardcore tunneling and facecamping at 5 gens.. before they even know what kind of team they are dealing with. I think there is a difference between camping and tunneling towards the end-game if you have a hard time keeping pressure, and I understand that it can be neccesary to keep the last gens from popping.. But if the team is down to 3 survivors after one gen the balance is no longer fair, especially in solo que.
Killers are always complaing about SWF, but it's the only option to counter the camping and tunneling.. I have been playing Solo Survivor my entire DBD career and I find myself playing killer more and more often to actually be able to play the game and for the first time I find myself searching online for SWF to play with, cause I get tired of people not doing gens while I get camped or loop the killer.. Is killing solo que entirely really the goal here DEVS? Cause it's beginning to look like it's where we are heading.

Ive been spending the time to learn her as a console player. Ive gotten pretty good at her and can go against good survivors pretty easily. But a good bit of the time im told "wow, congrats, you have good headphones" or stuff like that. Kinda makes me feel like the time spent to learn her is kinda insulted and pushed down to that. Do you think she's very easy? Like i know shes no nurse but she was fairly difficult when i started.
I don’t find her easy to play as. I always seem to lose survivors while phasing. I don’t play her a lot, so I think it’s a matter of just not having a lot of practice. In my last game with her I paid attention to moving grass along with the footstep sounds and that helped a lot. Seems to be a combination of using your senses as well as trying to predict where the survivor is going to go that is the trick to playing her well.

Why don't we have a search bar for perks? Auto-Level? Higher BP Cap? Are we getting any of these?
The big thing I’m waiting for with QoL update is a complete overhaul of the bloodweb system. What I’d like to see is a way for you to select items you want the bloodweb to prioritize and be able to let it run automatically until you tell it to stop (or do something like spend X number of bloodpoints then stop). It’s one of the most boring and soul-crushing parts of this game.

With this question, i am not asking which killers are the strongest, i am asking which killers do you think are the best in terms of strength, health and fun. Basically killers that don't really need any changes to their base kit or add-ons
This is all a bit subjective, but i am bit curious to know the opinion.
For me:
- Hag
- Huntress
- Plague
- Demogorgon
- Oni
- Pinhead
- Artist
- Dredge
- Wesker
Do you disagree? Do you think there are more killers bhvr shouldn't touch, do you think some of this killers need to be touched, being that a buff or nerf?
I like playing against all those killers except Pinhead. Absolutely broken against solo q and I don’t blame people who refuse to play against him.
