Just in case you are wondering why the game is dying...

Behave yourself. This is absolutely ridiculous.

The game is dying? By what measure?

Anyway, it’s pretty pathetic that some people behave this way. It was probably some idiot teenager with an underdeveloped brain. Just ignore and move on to the next match.

  • Props to you for picking up poor Billy. He was my favorite killer before he got needlessly nerfed into oblivion (one of those famous BHVR changes that nobody was asking for but they did anyway). He would have been totally fine with just a nerf to his insta-saw addons. You’re right his add-ons are largely useless (turning and silent chainsaw are pretty much the only ones I use). But anyway, that’s in the past and I really don’t expect that the devs will admit their mistake and revert him back to the way he used to be. You can probably tell I’m still bitter about this 😊

I only play him when there is a daily challenge, so I can’t offer a whole lot of helpful advice. I like to run endurance and spirit fury on him because that will help you get through pallets which are one of his main weaknesses. After a pallet insta-break is the best time to go for a chainsaw down. Other than that, his power is really mostly useful for mobility around the map (unless of course you’re on an indoor map and then you might as well not play the match at all 😉)

  • Pinhead by a long shot. It’s very obvious that when BHVR designed this killer, they didn’t bother to think about how wide of a gap there would be in solo queue vs SWF with this killer. Without the benefit of communication, you might as well throw in the towel immediately when you hear the “gong” at the start of the match. Either your whole team will ignore the box and it will be permanently chainhunt or everyone will go for the box and you’ll maybe get two gens done before the (extremely long) match is over. Solo queue matches against Pinhead are by far the worst experience in this game.

Thunderstorm, rainbow, sandstorm, fog, mist, strong winds, tornado, hurricanes, hail, aurora, heavy rain and more?

This game is already horrifically optimized and even high-end PCs and consoles struggle with it. I can’t imagine how bad it would be with weather effects!

  • Given that killers often have to face SWF teams that can constantly call out killer’s location, I’d say that having all these aura reading perks on the killer side is more than fair. Killers have to go into a match assuming that they will be facing a coordinated SWF team, especially when they are playing during peak times like evenings or weekends when survivors are more likely to be playing with friends.

I don't like to use Epic/Fortnite as a example but in this chase I have to. When something is broken it get's removed and/or fixed in a matter of days or in the longest a month when there are times like Christmas inbetween. I know Epic has probably a lot more people working in there company but this not a excuse for how long we have to wait in dead by daylight for changes. Here some examples:

-The Steam Deck celebrates it's first birthday in a few days and well...we can't play dbd on it. Every other big game on the steam deck got optimized in the first few months but dbd not because they can't or don't want to optimze there anti cheat to work on it.

-The Crossprogression for switch got promised almost 2 Years ago and we didn't get it. Like always the information we get from Bhvr is almost 0

-Wasn't there like a promise multiple years ago that the last gen get's optimized? Well still all versions run like crap on the old consoles

-We get a new killer every 3 months. I kinda can understand that because it takes time to plan the killers and because of the cooperation with other horror frenchises. But why the hell does it take so long for them to fix problems with the killers. One of bubbas addons is bugged since years

-The people here, on Youtube or on the hellhole called Twitter complain about certain mechanic's in the game and openly Show how they break the game or just take the fun out. But do these things get fixed? Well yeah but for that we have to complain month's when not years that something is broken for it to get fixed

This game has no competition, so BHVR have no incentive to fix things quickly (or at all). People still play the game even when it’s a buggy mess or when it’s miserably unbalanced for one side or the other because there is no other similar game worth playing.

Can it just insta kill me please so I can move on to the next match? It's genuinely making me not want to play the game, like whatsoever. What am I supposed to do in solo queue? Great job!

I agree with this Eruption change. Whenever Eruption cause a gen to explode, it should instantly kill any survivor working on it. Devs, please make this change!

  • @Erenior said:

i dont know. i just started a killer and i get matched against survivors that are just way better then me. i dont stand a chance. i can handle the killer but they just know every map in and out and just know every tile and see every pallet and every window.

shouldnt i be matched vs relativly equally skilled players?

There is a matchmaking system, but it might as well not exist. It will match brand new players against semi-pros with thousands of hours, especially during peak times, to keep queue times down.

  • @RainehDaze said:

Normally, I'd be playing uh... late. Rather stupidly late, even (or early, kind of overlaps). Aaaaaaand on those rare occasions someone was in the lobby that wasn't crossplay, the odds of some sort of salty comment seemed absurdly high. And the bizarrely high ratio of TTV names to people not actually streaming.

Wrench my sleep schedule into some normalcy and then I can actually play in a reasonable evening time, and the end game chat is actually mostly jocular. Still ran into some weirdly salty group once (why oh why would you try to go for a save against Bubba after you've completed the gens, just accept the 2E and leave), but hey! Friendly people!

And, oddly enough, way less crossplay; you'd think the PC gamers would be the ones on at 4AM, but no, almost all consoles (or Epic I guess).

Neat benefit in actually being bonus BP for playing Killer when it's a weekend evening, since so many people are playing with friends.

I hate playing during peaks times. When I play as killer it’s nothing but SWF seal teams and as survivor it’s nothing but ultra sweaty killers with thousands of hours and way above my skill level (I don’t think any mid to low MMR killers bother to play in the evenings). If I ever get the chance to play during the day, its far more enjoyable on both sides.

  • @Pulsar said:

Legion and Pinhead are more hated.

It probably stems from the fact that a lot of people disliked him being added to the game and felt it was a pretty blatant cash-grab attempt. Also that he's super weak in most scenarios but in the places where he's good, there is LITERALLY nothing you can do.

yes - Legion and Pinhead are far worse. I had a match against a Thana Legion today on Dead Dawg, about 5 minutes into the match, no generators done, no hooks, just constant chase, deep wound, mend, chase, deep wound, mend. Any time I load into a match against Legion I just want to quit playing for the rest of the day.

More so than Nurse, more so than Blight, more so than Bubba, even more so than Hag - I don't think a single killer exists that makes people cable pull on first down than Tricky Boi.

No idea why. He's...really not a great killer, at all.

I can’t remember anybody ever DCing against Trickster

  • We shouldn’t have to report these kind of situations. There is an easy in-game fix for this. Make it so survivors get revealed by crows if they collectively as a team don’t touch a generator after a certain amount of time has passed.

  • @Tsulan said:

The issue is, that most people voted "faster queues" in a poll about matchmaking. Queues were around 5-15 minutes back then.

So the devs widened the span of players getting matched to shorten said queues.

A middle ground could be a slider for players that allows for fairer matches in exchange for longer queues/shorter queues for unfairer matches.

Yep, exactly this. Unless most players are ok with 10 minute+ queue times, the matchmaking system is going to be effectively useless. There just isn’t a big enough pool of players across all skill levels for quick and fair matchmaking.

  • @Sanna said:

I recently tried getting a friend into this game and they played it for a few weeks before uninstalling. They said earning points is too slow (even though I told them the grind was worse before, but they often get tunneled out despite my best attempts to bodyblock) and they can't play killer because they get extreme motion sickness from the first person POV. I told them the game might be more enjoyable if they learned to loop a bit but they said this game isn't "casual" enough for them even though I feel like it's still pretty casual in the end aside from the pip/grades system, and regardless of how some players like to sweat like their lives depend on it.

I'm curious to hear some opinions though: do you think DBD is casual and what makes it casual or uncasual for you guys?

The game has gotten far too big/complicated for casual players. It’s completely overwhelming for anyone who wants to play occasionally and not have to learn all the maps, all the loops, all the survivor juke techniques, all the killer powers, all the counters to killer powers, etc.

Maybe it's the new Scream movie announcement but wow.

He's a fun killer, if a little janky but either someone has figured out something I haven't, or I've had weird luck.

I see a lot of Ghostface all the time, not just this week. Getting really sick of him

  • I think a good nerf to DH would be to have to deactivate at end game. It would still be a strong perk to worth using, but would make it harder for injured survivors to get out the gates.

  • A few thoughts here:

    • Let’s stop pretending that Steam charts doesn’t give us some indication of the overall direction in number of players because it doesn’t include other platforms. The sample size is more than large enough to be statistically significant. There’s no reason that the trend wouldn’t be similar on other platforms.
    • The Steam player base is pretty stable over the last few years in total. The count always goes up for new chapters and special events (definitely some more than others). The game is nowhere near dying at this point.
    • As more and more content gets added to the game, it becomes increasingly overwhelming for new players. I believe this is deterring new players from becoming regular members of the player base. I think the only way for BHVR to fix this problem is to eventually come out with a DbD2, which means they have to abandon the current game at some point.

Really wish there was some kind of trading option in DBD for offerings since you could hord up so much stuff that you may never use. Another option would be to just trade it back in for Bloodpoints. All these map offerings I more than likely will never use same with the Oaks, Coins, and Hatch and Basement locations.

Yes, I wish for this too. This has been a very common suggestion from the player base for years. There’s no way BHVR is not aware of this feedback. They are just choosing to ignore it. They should at least be honest with the player base and tell us that they’re never going to do it.

I understand why it was no longer usable in the endgame as it guaranteed an escape but cutting it down to 3 seconds? Come on now

Was it because it was overused? Overpowered?Did you guys even bother figuring out why it was used a lot?

I truly want to know why this perk was overly nerfed as much as it was and besides, Laurie Strode deserves to have at least one good perk.

    It was used too frequently.

But it’s totally fine for Eruption, Pain Res and Call of Brine to be brought by the killer in every single match. Not a problem at all

In the past, players using hostage strategies on doctor has been deemed bannable. Wherein players constantly shock people in madness 3 while regressing gens rapidly, usually with ruin/skill check perks. Then sitting in a 3 gen and refuse to chase anyone, only downing people who refuse to move.

    See:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/R4Y09EKQAN1P/image.png

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/114643/3-gend-survivors-vs-doctor-counts-as-holding-the-game-hostage

Recently a similar strategy has popped up with the knight. Players will equip CoB/OC/Eruption and sit in a 3 gen constantly using guard hunts to force survivors off the gens and regressing them quickly with perks, only downing people who do not run away.

Here is a video of the strategy:

    https://youtu.be/Vv3I9hHLblE

The goal of this strategy is to delay until the survivors give up and let you win or until the end of match 1 hour timer hits and the game instantly ends.

It seems clear to me based on what the developers have said about hostage doctor that this is indeed bannable, as it shares a lot of the same characteristics. Purely stalling the game using their power and perks, only downing people who refuse to leave the gens, and doing it for a very long time. However, some people disagree with this assessment.

So my question for the developers is:

I know this might go unanswered for a while because BHVR is likely off for the holiday, but I want to know. Can I be banned if I use this strategy? Should I bother reporting people who I play against who are doing this, or would I be wasting the support team's time?

    Thanks

edit: updated image of peanits post

BHVR need to fix their game rather than banning players. the fact that it’s possible for certain killers to do this and it’s possible for survivors to take the game hostage by hiding forever and refusing to work on gens is the result of poor killer/map/game design.

  • @Pulsar said:

We literally already have evidence saying that you're wrong. Refusing to chase or kill anyone while holding a 3-gen is against the rules.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/TVXLA4VH3V77/image.png

This is BHVR’s own fault for designing a killer and map/gen layouts that allow to a game hostage in certain situations. If this is possible, then BHVR need to fix their game rather than ban players.

Honest question: have BHVR ever said anything about banning survivors who refuse to work on gens? It’s the exact same type of game hostage-taking as killers who won’t try to chase survivors in a 3-gen situation and it’s not all that uncommon.

Sounds like a fundamental problem with the game, if one of the roles wants to completely avoid a style of play doesn't it?

Yes, it is a problem, but a problem that BHVR are fine with because SWF teams bring in a lot of money and a problem that enough killer players are willing to put up with. SWF is going away or even getting nerfed in the slightest unless enough killers stop playing the game to the point where queue times are unbearably long for survivors.

100% this. They’re not going to respond to complaints on forums. They will respond if revenue goes away.

Also, for all you upset about this, why didn’t you just buy the skins you wanted when they were available? 🙄

  • “Iron Will is not supposed to make survivors completely silent”.

So all the killer has to do is turn up the volume on their headphones to completely counter this perk. Iron Will is useless now and there’s a good reason that it is rarely used anymore.

  • @notclaudette said:

At least balanced landing rarely gets value, but lithe? just sprint burst without the skill, for the same value on any outdoor map. Speed perks should have some crazy drawback, which is the only reason sprint burst is fair because it triggers when you start running limiting its usage in chase to the start, then your skill determines its usage. Lithe is just free distance, balanced landing is the same just never useful. completely rework both perks to being skillful and useful

not saying their overpowered, their just the most braindead perks. the skill ceiling for lithe is literally choosing to use it or not, and it lacks any form of drawbacks.

Sprint burst triggers when you begin running, changing the function of running for the survivor. Running because a distance maker at the start of a chase, rather than something to slow the killers distance gain on you. After using it, if you want to use it in chase you need to manage walking mid chase when you have the distance, then 99 and use it at the right time. A high-skill ceiling perk, that transforms your gameplay in a meaningful way.

Lithe is not like that. A vault is something used to create distance and maintain a loop with the killer. Lithe? Makes vaults into something used to create distance with the killer, just more. And all you need to do is vault. This doesnt change your gameplay meaningfully in the slightest, as its the same gameplay just on some crack. Lithe isnt overpowered, not saying that. Just saying it provides too much value *for its required skill*.

Balanced landing is just lithe but on falls. Bad perk, rework this period.

Thanks for reading, open to opinions.

They exist because “requiring skill” is not a prerequisite for perks, nor should should it be.

Survivors hiding and refusing to work on generators is against the rules because it is refusal to participate in normal gameplay and taking the game hostage, and it can potentially lead to a ban.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's a genuine major issue. The only option is to video record evidence and report them after the game ends to hopefully get them banned, but that doesn't help while you're still stuck in said game until it ends.

There needs to be some sort of measure to prevent this kind of thing from happening. It can easily cause a match to go on for 20-40+ minutes of a useless goose hunt for survivors that could be hiding almost anywhere in the map.

It is ridiculous to expect running specific perks or add-ons or playing specific killers that are better for dealing with this kind of situation just in case the survivors decide to play in a literally game-breaking manner. It is also unreasonable to expect the killer to spend an insane amount of time to pore over literally every single part of the map part-by-part to check every single bush, locker, corner, etc to find survivors that are intentionally preventing the AFK crow from taking effect.

There’s a very easy fix for this. If the survivor team collectively doesn’t touch a generator for an extended period of time (I don’t know what would be “fair” - maybe 3 minutes?) then crows should start giving location alerts to the killer. BHVR has apparently decided this is not a big enough problem to spend time on.

  • @HugTheHag said:

Do you decide who gets it throughout the game or is it just the last one alive ?

I tend to be very friendly as killer, some would say the 5th survivor, and I come across plenty of survivors who are either really cute (and I want to give them hatch), goofy (too fun to kill), or very cool/good (and I want to reward them).

Like I'll run into a game and see :

    • A David messing with No Mither and using DH to dab around me more than to dodge hits. Maybe trying for adept, and it's a tough one ! (He actually was)
    • A Cheryl happily crouching whenever I come near because she likes the chase music (fellow Legion main doing a survivor challenge)
    • A Yui actually doing sabo saves and who's the most decent looper of the bunch (congrats to her !)
    • (And then a random survivor who's not particularly noticeable in any way and who DC'd mid-match.)

    Strong contenders all around !!

(In that particular game, we ended up just farming challenges and hiding in snowmen after the random DC'd, couldn't bring myself to kill any of them.)

    Anyway.

How do y'all choose who to kill and who to spare ? =)

I will give hatch to last survivor if 1) there was a hook suicide or DC; 2) I stomped the survivor team and they didn’t really have a chance (doesn’t happen often); or 3) last survivor played really well and I give hatch as sign of respect. One thing that overrides all of the above is if the last survivor just hides all game waiting out the hatch. I will definitely try my best to deny them hatch and hook them if they play that way.

  • @Jensen said:

I often get written after a game from survivor that they are mad because i tunneled them. I realy dont understand why they are mad.

1.) If you are on hook stage 2, and still think its a smart idea to unhook your friends even when im closeby dont blame me.

2.) If noone of the other survivors bait me, why should i go for them, when you are close by?

3.) Survivors are doing everything to win, endurace perks, exhaustion perks, pallets, flashlights.... Why should the killer not do everything to win?

Somehow, some survivors think that there is a etiquette that killer should follow. Strangly there is no etiquette for Survivors....

People like this get mad because they have zero ability of seeing things from the perspective of another person. A lot of people in this world think that everything revolves around them and their enjoyment of life and fail to consider anything or anyone else. They get upset if they don’t have fun, but they could not care less if you have fun.

You should play however you want and not feel bad about it as long as you are not intentionally going out of your way to ruin another player’s experience. As you said, survivors are going to do everything in their power to win - using the best items and add-ons, abusing broken loops, using comms to talk to other survivors and play way more efficiently - so you should never feel bad about playing the way that puts you in the best position to win. Often that means tunneling one or more players out of the match.

  • If you can down every single survivor you injure in less than 25 seconds, you don’t need Eruption to win. See how that works?

Nothing in your arguments addresses the fundamental problem with Eruption: its design only increases incredible imbalance between solo queue and SWF. Your suggested strategy for countering Eruption (staying off a gen until injured survivor goes down) still heavily penalizes solo queue simply because they don’t have the advantages of comms.

I play a lot of killer and I don’t understand why other killer players feel the need to defend a perk that is simply designed to curb stomp solo queue teams. If you need a broken perk to win against solo queue, you are just not a good killer.

  • I don’t think there are many players who consider shack a problem. It becomes a problem when strong tiles spawn right next to shack, creating quasi-infinite loops. I can think of one example on Crotus Prenn where a strong jungle gym spawns right next to shack and good survivors can abuse the hell out of it.

  • Uh, check the history of posts over the past couple of weeks and you’ll find your answer :)

short answer: yes, lots of people are getting lag because the servers are broken. But BHVR are enjoying their holidays right now, so you’ll have to put up with it until they feel like getting around to fixing the issues.

Unfortunately, BHVR simply don’t care enough to fix this problem. They’ve decided that their vacation time is more important than your player experience. Apparently there are enough players willing to put up with the trash server performance because the player count on Steam really has not dropped much, if at all, during the past week.

History shows that the only thing that really gets BHVR to respond with any sense of urgency is significant drop in player count. People need to stop playing the game if they want to see any real action from the devs.

Agreed, we've all paid for this game and it's unplayable for a full week because the entire team is off. It's odd they don't have a contingency plan for stuff like this.

This is what happens when a game has no real competition. The developers can ignore bugs and player experience issues for as long as they want and people will still play. You can bet that if a bunch of players were leaving the game due to these issues that the devs would be working right now to fix them.

  • A lot of people seem to be having similar problems. Last month or so has been awful for me. It’s not my internet connection or my hardware - it’s BHVR’s crappy servers.

Same here. If killer is going to waste the 3rd survivor’s time just so they can get a 4K, then if I’m the last survivor then I’m going to waste as much of the killer’s time as possible.

  • @Blueberry said:

Just the fact that we can all agree that 90% of killers would all dodge swf lobbies if they could should in and of itself make it blatantly obvious that there’s a serious issue needing to be addressed with swf.

Yes, SWF is a serious issue that breaks the balance of the game, but if BHVR nerfed it, they would lose a ton of the player base. I don’t blame people for wanting to play with their friends. I don’t play SWF very often, but it’s definitely fun. If you have halfway competent teammates, it’s easy escapes and the killer can be bullied all game long. So while I don’t blame people for wanting to play with their friends, I also don’t blame killers for wanting to avoid being matches against SWF because of how unfun it is on the killer side. Nobody enjoys being a punching bag, which is what you are as killer against most SWF teams.

  • I just avoid playing killer during peak times when it’s constant matches against sweaty SWF teams with thousands of hours each. Playing killer during morning or afternoon (US eastern time zone) is so much more relaxing.

  • I had that happen to me a few times within the past month. It would usually last for a few hours. I assume it was an issue with BHVRs servers, as the game would always work fine for me the next day. Definitely frustrating when you want to play and can’t because of crappy server issues.

  • There really is no excuse for this game to not run well on older consoles. It’s a six year old game, for crying out loud. It’s very well known in this community that the optimization for this game is piss poor compared to most other games.

  • @TealJade said:

What's your opinion on bleeding survivors to death without hooking at all?

On EU servers there are some killers deliberately do this for 'fun'. Yesterday I played against a nurse and at the end there were only me and a Mikaela left in game. The nurse downed Mikaela, slugged them while chased and downed me, which was understandable. But 2 minutes in while i was on the floor, Mikaela was bled to death. The nurse continued to stand next to my character to bleed me out, and only picked up last second for hook points. So yes, there were hooks around me, the nurse just chose to bleed me for 3.9 minutes for 'fun'.

While slugging could be a strategy to win the game, I think in the above case is unnecessary slugging. Standing over another player's character to bleed them out is a form of toxicity, trolling, griefing, or refusing to participate in normal gameplay (whatever you want to call it).

Sadly this nurse i played against repeatedly do this to many survivors. DBD devs say they don't tolerate toxicity in the community. I'd like to see if they would do anything to prevent these trolls to ruin others' experience.

What's your thoughts and experiences? Do you think unbreakable base kit could solve this problem?

My opinion is that 95% of the time this happens due to killer players who are giant a$$hats and whose lives are so pathetic that their only means of finding any scraps of joy is making other people miserable in a video game.

The other 5% of the time, the survivor probably deserved it. I’ve had a few matches as killer where the survivors intentionally hid for the entire match and didn’t touch gens or try to unhook teammates. In those matches, after I found the survivors, I slugged them and let them bleed to death for intentionally wasting my time.

  • Played last night for the first time in a while (I’m in US eastern time zone). The stuttering and rubber banding were horrible. I assume it’s a problem with the servers.
