Getting laughed at in the other thread has inspired me to play Devil's Advocate and make this thread. I don't really care but this should be entertaining so why not?

I am not calling for it to be nerfed, I firmly believe it will get nerfed sooner rather than later. If 6.1.0 taught me anything it's that BHVR's idea of "balance" is based on usage rates more than anything else.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/OH1I5ASB7ZLR/image.png

And currently Windows is the second-highest used survivor perk in DbD, only beaten by Dead Hard. According to one source at least.

Should it be nerfed? Not really, it's just an information perk and can be countered by blindness.

However, should it always be on all the time without any condition whatsoever? Should survivors be able to drop 5 pallets in one chase and still be shown where the next one is? Does it encourage interesting gameplay from survivors because it is always on? I think the answers to all these questions is no.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

There are a lot of issues with the game that need to be addressed. Windows of Opportunity is not one of them. If you play killer, you should be glad if a survivor is using this perk. It means they are bringing one less annoying “meta” perk like Dead Hard, CoH or Prove Thyself

I also find that, especially on Killer, evening and weekends are particularly bad when the Killer has the incentive bonus.

I can only assume that at those times there is a massive influx of survivors, particularly SWF, and as such, Killer games become almost hopeless unless you can hold your own at that high level.

Play off-peak and you face more reasonable survivors, and the odd potato who sacrifices themselves at your feet.

This is my experience as well. During peaks times (evenings in US Eastern time zone for me), there are too many survivors and not enough killers, so to make the matchmaking not take 10 minutes or more for survivors, the matchmaking code says “F### it, you just get matched with the next survivor team in line, regardless of your MMR”. This is why brand new players are getting matched with semi-pro players with thousands of hours.

Survivor-to-killer ratio seems to be more balanced during off-peak hours, so my matchmaking experience has been much better during those times. You’re also less likely to get matched against SWF teams during this times.

the most exciting thing about DBD is looping. So when it's taken away it's boring.

You don’t play killer much, do you? You think it’s fun playing killer with no anti-loop power and eating pallets while three gens get done before your first hook?

A Michael Myers with Judith’s Tombstone or the last survivor in a locker preventing themselves from being mori able?

The Myers using Tombstone isn’t holding the game hostage, but he is using the lamest and most unfun add-on in the game

Unless someone has been blisteringly BM, spent the entire match hidden or AFK or otherwise were a deliberate detriment to their team, I'll generally give the last survivor hatch or gate. If there was a quitter, I may even give more survivors gate.

However, this can often lead to either frustrating or hilarious situations like:

    • You find hatch. You try to lead that survivor to hatch, but they insist on running away. So you close hatch and let them get gate, only to realize by the end of the countdown that they went AFK in a locker.
    • Canadian standoffs (both players trying to be polite, with the survivor trying to be hooked and the killer trying to let them out).
    • You give them hatch or gate, only to be accused of 'deranking' in postgame?

So - what do you do with the last survivor, assuming they tried?

Survivors - do you prefer hatch, gate or just to die?

If there is a DC or hook suicide, I will always give last survivor hatch unless they went out of their way to BM. If it’s a normal match, depends on how the survivors played. If it’s obvious that the last survivor did nothing the whole match and was just hiding waiting for the hatch, then I definitely won’t give hatch.

If the survivors intentionally waste my time and refuse to try to work on gens, then I will intentionally slug them and let them bleed out. BHVR could easily fix this problem with a mechanic to reveal survivor who don’t touch gens, but they’ve refused to address this

As the titles states: Killers, what frustrates you about the game?

I'll go first. One thing I find really frustrating me as of late is speed hackers and the difficulty in knowing whether they are actually hacking, as it tends to be somewhat subtle. I know they are still in the game because I know for certain I ran into at least one last night and possibly one today. That's far too many.

Another thing that frustrates me is the number of vaults and pallets survivors get in a match to gain distance from a killer. I do think that maps should have pallets and vaults, but I question the number on many of the maps.

Multiple god loops strung together and getting matched against ultra-sweaty SWF squads when I play during peak hours

It's not fair to see others playing on a locked out Character. I'm not trying to get haters, but either open the survivors as a whole or get rid of all of them. I just don't think it's fair when I'd like to get Nancy wheeler but I'm not able to.. Again, I know I'll get hate from the ones who own her, but reverse it in a newer persons shoes and having a character locked out just because you BOUGHT and payed for a game later on. Thanks tc..

Get rid of all of them? LOL OK. Yeah, I’d be super happy if they took away all my survivors because you don’t have a character that you want

  • @BillsHere101 said:

When you're incapacitated, you could always run to another gen or do something else until the timer runs out. Survivors could also improve their chasing a lot more than getting downed by the killer in 1 second.

This perk also has a cooldown of 30 seconds and the killer must kick the generator or it won't work. It's easily to deal with it not much like Dead Hard.

“Or do something else”. Like what???

  • I’m up to my eyeballs in BP now! It’s a nice gesture, but would have preferred shards instead. Oh well

  • @Emeal said:

Because its a Perk and it would be very strong for all Survivors to have such info for free all the time.

So you’re basically describing SWF on comms 😉

  • It should be base kit. BHVR has talked about buffing solo queue for a long time but it’s been only that - talk. They haven’t done anything to improve solo queue play.

But, I play both sides and I think it would be unfair to give survivors yet another basekit perk without doing the same for killers. Basekit BBQ seems a bit much, but I think it would help incentivize leaving the hook. Maybe basekit Corrupt Intervention?

  • @Pink_Ronin said:

Such a chore to have to spend BP. Just had the season end so now I'm sitting on about 2,900,000 gotta spend probably the next 20 minutes spending BP just so I can continue earning.

Would it be so hard to just add an auto-spend feature? If you wanted to go the extra mile add a filter to prioritize items\add-ons you want to earn.

TBH I usually don't play DBD when the season restarts because I'd rather just play something else than waste my time sitting in the bloodweb clicking, bored.

Fully agree - it’s horrible. BHVR have been getting this feedback from the community for a long time but they continue to ignore it and prioritize other things (often times things that nobody is asking for). It’s super frustrating, but enough people are still playing the game and spending money on it, so from their perspective no reason to make a change.

  • @LGTV said:

Shockingly i have a couple of friends who i like to play with. My steam profile is always aviable, people can see it and i am not ashamed of it. But why do people complain that 3 other survivors in my lobby are in my friends list? I mean there is nothing wrong about playing with friends.

Nobody has a problem with people playing with friends. The problem is that when the survivors are communicating on comms it provides a massive advantage that was not intended in the original design of the game and that solo queue players do not get to enjoy. Solo queue players have to use perks to get information that SWF get for free.

What people are complaining about is the fact that the game is significantly tilted in favor of survivors when they are able to communicate with each other. The devs can’t/won’t do anything to help balance the game more in favor of killers to compensate for this because if they did, they game would be even more miserable for solo queue and a lot of players would quit.

To stand a chance against good SWF teams, killers have to play in a way that survivors consider “unfun” like camping and tunneling and playing the best killers with the most OP add-ons. Since you don’t know for sure if a team is SWF, you have to assume they are and play as sweaty as possible.

  • If someone DC’s I usually try to kill two out of the three as quickly as possible and give hatch to the last survivor. When I’ve tried to be nice and let all survivors go in the past, the matches usually took way too long as survivors would take their sweet time repairing gens - so I’m not doing that anymore.

I realize that killers are entitled to play however they want, but I think it’s kind of a d*ck move when they go super tryhard after a DC and don’t at least let the last survivor get hatch.

  • @Someissues said:

i looped killer for 3 gens, 1 dc at start so we wiped. killer got mad and use me to farm for a good bit, give me false hope when he put me near the hatch then close the lid. then repeat farm me under the timer hits 0 and puts me on the hook.

No, not bannable. Just being an #########

  • @wakwak said:

I swear getting hit through a clearly dropped pallet has gotten more and more common. It happens practically every game now. The most egregious case is wesker dashing through a pallet mid-drop, and grabbing you, and slamming you into the pallet you just dropped. Another case today that made me want to die on hook was a legion in feral frenzy, dropped the pallet on him, he wasn't even swinging through the pallet, still took a hit.

I’m constantly getting hit on the other side of pallets and 10 feet past windows after vaulting

  • @Pulsar said:

Because most people don't have time to do that.

Most players are casual. They play a couple hours a week. They want to log on and have fun, if the game requires them to put in hundreds of hours in order to have a semi-okay experience, they'll just move on.

If the game isn't fun for most of your playerbase, it will die.

    Killers, stop tunneling.

    Also also, don't camp.

Also also also, don't run Eruption.

Also also also also, don't slug.

Also also also also also, don't strat a 3-gen.

I would ask if they want me to just stand there and do nothing but they don't like that either.

It seems like the only killer play style that isn’t complained about is chasing survivors all match, never defending gens, running as far away as possible from a hooked survivor, letting all unhooked survivor heal in peace and quiet, not chasing or hooking that survivor again until all other survivors have been hooked, then making sure to go to the exit gate at the end of the match and quietly watch while all the survivors t-bag you for 3 minutes until the EGC timer runs out

Not sure if everyone's in the know yet, but the latest hotfix has actually broken the game more than it was a few days ago. So far I've seen at least three different gamebreaking bugs being introduced via the hotfix and they are likely going to stay that way throughout the entire Winter Event

The inner strength bug (I don't wanna describe it, check bug reporting if you're curious)

Kindred being broken, making solo Q even more miserable than it usually is

    BP incentives broken (AGAIN)

Stealth Killers being revealed by aura perks, effectively gutting their powers

Fat shame spots creating almost infinites STILL not being addressed on a lot of maps (Badham and Swamp are the two I've seen so far)

Has it reached worse than when Twins was added to the game yet? It's ridiculous.

So yeah, PSA If you like Stealth Killers (Like I do) - there's a high chance your power just won't help you. Good luck playing a killer who relies on their stealth.

    Hot spaghetti code

  • You’ll likely never see those perks in the shrine, ever. If they claim that the shrine is random, then they are lying. BHVR aren’t stupid - they know what will bring in money. There’s a reason the best perks are on licensed characters that can only be purchased with $$$

  • @Tsukah said:

Too many sweaty tryhard killers, event is not fun with these competitive cringelords running around

Tunneling and camping at 4-5 gens, so lame zzzz...

Every match you play you aren’t playing a SWF. I’d bet that you don’t face a SWF but every 1-10 matches if not 1-20.

Who is saying that they face SWF every match?

Also, do you have data to show that SWF is only every 1 out of 10-20 matches?

It’s going to depend on the time of day that you play. I’ve played killer during the day and during the evening. SWF are far more prevalent during the evening (makes sense - people are off work/school and have time to play with their buddies). I would bet you a lot of money than SWF are far more frequent than 10% of matches during peak evening hours.

  • @RavenBirb said:

One killer perk that blends into builds and all the survivors cry while they hold like 8 different strong perks in their back pocket. There's nothing overpowered about Eruption, it even has a cooldown, get better.

OK - you’re entitled to your opinion on this. Do you play solo q survivor? If not, then maybe put yourself in those shoes for a while and then reassess your opinion.

  • @Sally_S_gay_son said:

I would consider myself high mmr survivor based on the type of killers I face and sweaty teamates I get (sometimes of course this won't be the case and I will get your average self care Claudette and Bill who will run from the opposite side of the map to farm me) and the amount of times this perk straight up changed the outcome of the match is actually unbelievable and those were matches where everyone was doing good so the killer was not some noob and my teamates had a brain

it's basically at the most tense point of the match 1/2 gens left some people are on death hook, we have someone running the killer with limited pallets left and the rest of us are being smart by staying injured and just pushing those last 1/2 gens that are at 80-90% and then bam - the killer gets the down and 25 seconds no one can do #########

as everyone here with experience in this game knows, every second in the match is crucial, especially near the end where everyone must play perfectly if it's a close call.

This perk needs to change, it's way too powerful, it should be either just 10% off the gen or just the status effect, but both is borderline oppressive

Apparently BHVR feels like solo queue is just fine. They’ve done nothing to address the major issues that survivor players have been discussing on the forums for a long time, such as status indicators to provide teammates with additional information (which SWF have built in) or adjusting killer perks that punish solo queue but are much weaker against SWF.

When I play survivor, I play mostly solo q. I have some good matches occasionally, but there are a lot of miserable ones too. It’s really sad that BHVR could very easily implement a few fixes to improve the solo q experience, but they seem to have no interest in doing so. It has become harder and harder to motivate myself to play the game anymore.

DbD has an active season with lasts about 7 months. Usually it lasts from mid-June until the end of the year. During this period we get all of the noteworthy events, the Anniversary, Halloween, and Winter.

From the beginning of the year until the anniversary, DbD enters what I call the "dead season." In this period we only get the Lunar New Year as an event but it has been lackluster since 2019. Killers released in December and March underperform compared to their hyped up Anniversary and September counterparts. It's just a very boring time to play DbD and it happens every year.

According to Steam Charts, the dead season always sees the player base drop to its lowest low every year which happens in March or April. The only exception to this is in March of 2020 when the Slinger was released which ended the "Growth Era" of DbD and started its "High Plateau Era," where the player base in all but one month stayed above 30k average players. I call it a plateau because the average player base doesn't grow despite the largest DLC launches and highest peaks in this period.

Going to more current Steam Charts, we can see that DbD is starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for its High Plateau numbers, already falling below 33k average players over last 30 days at the time of this post. Starting at 33k in December of this year is already much lower than last year's 44k. Last year DbD lost 33% of its player base from between January and April... so this year is already looking really bad. Just a loss of 10% of the player base between now and March will put DbD at the lowest it's ever been in the last 3 years.

I predict a low of 25k average players on Steam Charts in March or April. BHVR has to come up with something truly magical for this not to happen, in my opinion.

    What do you think?

Is DbD's High Plateau over? Is this the beginning of the end?

Or do Steam Charts figures not matter at all? Am I full of it?

Are you still hyped and excited for DbD's future? Will DbD experience a renaissance?

I’m not optimistic. The game is 6 years old and is becoming more and more problematic for the devs to maintain. This last patch was a huge mess. It’s getting harder and harder to come up with creative and fun ideas for killer powers and perks for both sides. At some point they’re going to transition from “growth” mode to “milk it” mode and I think they are close to or have already hit that transition point.

Who are you to dictate that it's not warranted?

And it's been stated repeatedly, by multiple people, across like a dozen threads, that the way this sort of marketing exploits certain mental health is well studied and taught. Why, exactly, do you (and so many other people) keep dismissing this point? Do you automatically assume that anything you disagree with in a conversation has been fabricated?

Because holy #########, the regularity with which a few people jump to saying others are sounding narcissistic and entitled for explaining a well known phenomenon and how a marketing technique works and is taught is ridiculous. 'Common sense' is not a substitute for actual subject matter knowledge, which is what this keeps coming down to: "from my perspective this is minor and unimportant, so I'm going to ignore anything that involves knowledge I don't have".

Fully agree. Unfortunately, you’re probably going to get a bunch of irrational responses to this very rational opinion.

At this point, I’ve decided it’s best to move on and ignore any more posts about this topic. Let people who want to be outraged over this incredibly insignificant issue be outraged.

TL;DR: the hex mechanic is bad on most perks and needs to change. Totem locations are still terrible and should be adressed again.

Back in the day, one hex perk was meta: Ruin. Other hex perks were used from time to time, NOED being probably the second most popular, strong but still an endgame perk. No other hex had an immediate strong effect like these two, but aways had a chance of being cleansed early and leaving you with an empty perk slot without doing anything. Even Haunted Grounds could end up being cleansed when you had no healthy survivor near you and and so not doing much. Ruin had this problem too but was used a lot due to being the best regression perk and to the lack of alternatives (for a long time, Pop was the only viable alternative to Ruin).

I've commented before on this forums how I liked the Ruin nerf, since I hated the fact the best perk for slowing down the insanely quick gens had a chance of deactivating permanently in the first 30 seconds, and now we finally have alternatives. HOWEVER, after Ruin and NOED got nerfed, Hex Perks became extremely rare, and the first reason is obvious: it's not worth to take a perk that will probably be gone in the first few minutes instead of one that lasts for the whole match. The mechanic is underwhelming by default. No wonder why the better two at the moment are Plaything and Pentimento: the way their totems are created and their effects cleansed are different. They don't use the same mechanic that makes other hexes so weak. The other hex perks need an overhaul to change the way they work too.

Of course, other things made hexes become so unpopular: with Boon Totems, survivors seem to be more aware than ever of totem locations and look for them even before knowing there is a hex in play. And then there's the downside that plagued totems for years: many totem locations are just terrible, being either extremely visible or taking place right beside survivor's main objective, the generators.

I remember devs changed a few totem locations back in 2018... but I wonder when and why they decided they were fine and needed no more improvement. I leave a few examples below of totems I've seen in my matches in 2022. Even though some are months old, I haven't seen a single patch note or dev update talking about totem spawn changes.

Clearly visible in front of a high spot where a gen is located.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/GJ6GBBES5DYR/bad-totem-spot-11.jpg

When I started playing the game, I would use hex perks a lot until I realized how useless they are. Any experienced survivor knows where the totem spawns are and when go against a SWF on comms one person will just start the match as the designated totem cleanser while everyone else does gens. And often times the spawns are out in plain view as you show in your pictures. Hex perks are usually gone within the first couple minutes of the match and will provide you with little value other than wasting a little bit of one survivor’s time.

The only hex perk I’ve found to be of some use is Plaything (maybe combined with Pentimento). It’s nice that you can get multiple uses out of it and helps to slow down the match a bit more than single-use hex perks.

Creating artificial scarcity by releasing limited-time exclusives is a way of extracting the maximum amount of money from a minority of players, and a disproportionate amount of that falls on those with various forms of mental illness.

And this is a very well known and studied topic, to the point there's lectures on how to pull it off, so it's not an accident when it happens.

i thought about your response for quite a while and I can understand your point of view. If BHVR are using this tactic to intentionally prey of people with addiction issues, then it could certainly raise ethical questions.

Yes. Keep letting BHVR get away with scummy business practices!

I’ve been trying to figure out how this is a “scummy” business practice and so far I’ve had no success. Someone is going to have to explain to me how this is “scummy”.

Is every company that has ever discontinued a product also engaging in “scummy” business practices?

  • You know, if you really wanted these limited time skins, you could just like, go ahead and buy them when they’re available

Similarly, if you don’t like the skin or you hate the practice of limited time skins, you could just like, not buy them

And wanted to try them out one day but I tried being a killer once today (as trapper with no perks) and my heart was pounding so fast I couldn't even calm down in the match 😭 But in the end, (Image shown below)

It went pretty well! its just that the anxiety/adrenaline that overwhelms me whenever I play killer :( so I'd like to know how to overcome such fear?

Yep, killer is super stressful, no doubt. Good for you for giving it go. A lot of other survivor mains are too scared to ever try. I respect the opinion of players like you who are at least willing to try both sides far more than others who solely play one role or the other.

My two main pieces of advice for playing killer are: 1), if you’re a casual player (like me), find one killer you really enjoy and/or are best with, and just play a ton with them until you understand how to as a killer *in general*, then start learning other killers once you get the hang of the general strategy; and 2) don’t ever feel bad about playing the game the way you want to play. Camp, tunnel, do whatever it takes to win and enjoy the match. Always remember that a lot of survivor-only players who constantly complain about camping/tunneling will also not hesitate to do everything in their power to make the match as miserable for you as possible.

  • @leowt said:

Theory: BHVR delays improving the solo queue experience because they want to incentivize survivors to play swf which would generate more profit.

A miserable solo q player wants to swf and so introduces the game to their friends, bringing in more sales, etc.. This wouldn’t happen if they made solo queue viable and fun to play.

What do you guys think? Is this plausible?

I think that they’re at the point with this game where they are realizing that dumping a bunch of developer resource into things that don’t provide immediate financial return are just not going to get done. It’s a 6 year old game that is clearly becoming more and more difficult to maintain with the spaghetti code.

It kind of feels like they’ve decided to just spend the bare minimum $ on keeping the game (somewhat) functional and devoting all the other available $ on new stuff.

  • @ElodieSimp said:

Words don't matter. Vote with your wallet.

Exactly. All the complaining on the forums is going to nothing. I’ve spent enough time on this forum to know that it’s very clear that the BHVR do not make decisions based on forum discussions. The only time I’ve really seen them put any urgency into making changes that people have been asking for is when player counts start to drop. Remember when survivor queues were ridiculously long during peak times because there were so few players who wanted to to subject themselves to the misery of repeated matches with survivors always bringing the same meta second chance perk loadouts? BHVR were finally forced to take action for fear of the player base collapsing.

Like others have said, vote with your wallets or play something else if you really want to see change.

  • Maybe it’s because I really don’t care at all about cosmetics (I fully realize that a lot of players do care a lot about this), but I don’t understand the player anger about this. Either you’re going to buy a cosmetic or you’re not. Who cares if it’s time limited? How long does it take you to decide it you’re going to buy it? If you like it, buy it while it’s available. If you don’t feel like it’s worth the money, don’t buy it. It’s really not a stressful decision.

maybe this is simply an issue of people being upset about the fact that BHVR are not explicitly stating that they are trying to use FOMO as a way to get people to buy stuff. This seems like an even more ridiculous thing to be upset about. Every company that sells products to consumers uses all sorts of different marketing tactics to try to make more money, and FOMO is a very commonly used one. I’ve never heard mass outrage about other companies not revealing/discussing their marketing strategies or their motives for why they do things a certain way. Of course they are doing this to try to make more money. Why do they have to come out and say it?

If it really upsets you that BHVR won’t come out and make a declaration “WE ARE OFFERING THESE SKINS FOR A LIMITED TIME BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE MORE MONEY”, then just don’t buy them. There’s really a very simple solution here.

  • Yes, the last patch broke everything with maps. No idea when it’s going to be fixed.

Healing and gen speeds are out of control.

People are just using different of the same perks now. Yes we are using different builds, but its all slowdown because if we use non slowdown, the gens are nearly impossible to keep up with on most killers.

    Solo Q is trash.

All you care about is skins.

You want to make unbreakable basekit so survivors dont sit on the ground, but killers have no way to giveup with EGC at 1 hook.

What other games are you people playing? I really want a new game to play. This game just isnt fun anymore imo.

Honestly I think all they look at is the player count and the revenue coming in. As long as those things are holding stable or growing, everything is good. There will always be players complaining about the game on forums, even if everything is perfect, so it doesn’t make sense for them to take action based on what they read from random complainers on forums. The only thing that will get their attention that something is wrong is if player numbers and revenue start declining.

Why would it not be addressed? We’ve been getting so many balance changes lately to both survivors and killers, but the most unbalanced thing in the game has not been addressed. I don’t see why that should stay that way. As a killer, playing against 4 solo survivors is completely different than playing against a 4man swf

It won’t be addressed because plenty of killers are still playing the game despite the massive advantage that SWF on comms have. As long as there are enough people willing to player killer, why would BHVR risk losing a lot of players by nerfing SWF?

LOL- That image pretty much sums up this latest patch. Everything is broken AF

Clearly the most underwhelming hex perk after it got nerfed. Since patch 6.1.0, I haven't seen any killer running this perk.

    Patch 6.1.0

    • Nerf: halved the Regression speeds to 50/75/100%.
    • Nerf: now deactivates after the first Survivor is killed.

There is no reason for you to use this perk besides handicapping yourself.

Most hex perks are trash and not worth running because either 1) experienced survivors know where all the totem spawns are, or 2) your hex totem will spawn 10 ft from a generator in plain view. Either way, they will cleanse your hex totem within 30 seconds you’ll immediately be down one or more perks for the rest of the match

the shi... soloq is just on fire, almost every round a bad player dies in 10 seconds and then kills himself on the hook or dct in, thanks bhvr you know what? Like all other experienced survivors, I only play swf or if I may quote a person "play another game" I also advise that, you just can't give yourself that anymore, bhvr just doesn't do anything and if they want to do something at some point , it takes a very, very long time

either the MM will finally really be measured by skill so that you don't get matched with any bad players, I mean its way better and i prefer waiting minutes in the queue for a lobby to match with real well player, than being matched with these noobs who go down in 10sec and ragquite, or finally something will be done for the soloq and it will be playable again, but until then I'm out others can annoy themselves with it

    im out

You’re doing really the only thing that can be done to force change. From BHVR’s perspective, if the player count is stable or growing, then there’s no problem and they’ll continue to work on whatever they feel like rather than what the community are asking for. There’s no incentive for them to do otherwise until they start losing a significant number of players

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/356243/stop-saying-spaghetti-code-as-an-insult-to-game-developers-please

I am a software engineer professionally and have been for nearly 10 years.

It's not that hard. They have spaghetti code.

But seriously. Programming does not work like that. Things don't have impact on other things unless they are directly tied to it. For example, this is my speculation as to why they "nerfed" blast mine by making it so it doesn't return to you if it wasn't broken by the killer, when they released wiretap.

it is obviously because wiretap and blast mine used the same logic and code to "put something" on the generator. Blast mine worked entirely by being "kicked" by the killer whereas wiretap was cancelled by a killer kicking it, but had an additionally effect. The reality is though, they basically refactored blast mine to be generic so they could make other perks like wiretap work, but then realized that wiretap would be OP if they gave it back to the survivor if the killer didn't kick the gen, so took it away. Then didn't realize they "nerfed" blast mine in the process. And because they take forever to do anything, here we are with a nerfed blast mine, even though it was already underpowered to begin with.

When, in reality, it would be really simple to add logic to the "generic" version to add a flag that is like "returnsOnCooldown" to check if the thing is still on the gen when the cooldown is up, and if it is, it returns it to the survivor. Then just have wiretap set that flag to false, and blastmine set it to true. Or, if they speculate that they wouldn't want that behavior on any other perk, they add the check specifically into blast mine's code. This should be a simple task, that should literally take an engineer maybe 20 minutes to implement and write tests for it. But they don't. Why? The only reason that they wouldn't is because either:

    A) They think it isn't that important for blast mine (which shows they know very little about their own game)

    B) It is actually extremely difficult to do this (spaghetti code)

    C) They literally don't know that this problem exists (which shows a massive problem with the company as a whole)

I would suspect it is A or B.

This is just this one problem though. The reality is there are tons of problems with this game that could easily be fixed with simple number tweaks, yet they take ages to do them. Months if not years. For example, the solo queue system for survivors to get icons that show what they are doing. Such a system is extremely simple to implement. And shouldn't take more than a few weeks for a single engineer. The logic for it is extremely simple. Check what action the survivor is doing, then set a flag, then based on that flag, an icon appears for other survivors. Why is that so hard to do and taking a year at this point? They say because they are doing other things. But like, WHAT are they doing? Rarely anything changes from patch to patch outside of a handful of perk changes every few months along with a new killer and survivor. Every 2-3 years they do a big sweeping change, and that's about it.

The only explanation for this is that it is far more difficult for them to do these things than it should be.

If i were them, i would be tweaking things constantly, either switch their patches from being every what, 2 months? to every 2 weeks, and change a few things every time, or during these 2 month patches, they should be making changes to dozens of perks at time. I mean, really think about it, how many VIABLE perks are there for both sides? Maybe a dozen? Out of what, hundreds?

My point is, what on earth are they doing with all of this time they have?

What are they doing with their time? They’re messing with (and breaking) maps and making all kinds of other changes that nobody asked for, like changing the textures for pallets and breakable walls to make them harder to see

it's not an insult it's just fact. The devs have so many issues with tangled code every patch it's actually insane. It's pretty clear that dbd simply wasn't made with the intention of it surviving for anywhere close to this long, so first devs probably didn't spend that much effort into making the the "basement" of the code that stable to build off of.

Yes, exactly. There’s a reason that a ton of things break with every patch, and it seems to be getting worse with each new update. Even the devs have stated that they never expected the game to last this long and get this big, so it’s pretty clear that this is a monster that has become difficult to tame. The devs really should start from scratch at some point, but obviously that takes time and lots of money. I don’t blame them for just milking the old code at this point. Plenty of people are still playing the game and they are still spending $ despite the constant bugs.

  • It will be months before the devs even look at Eruption, if ever. It took years for them to finally nerf Dead Hard. As long as player number stay stable, they’ll just work on whatever they feel like rather than what the community are asking for. Solo queue misery will continue to be ignored

I’m mean come on, I get 1 4k against survivors that aren’t that good and a killer I never play, and the next match I get a 6k hour, never stepped foot out of their home, Meg squad. Are you ######### kidding me? I mean don’t get me wrong I have a good thousand hours on me give or take, but that’s one hell of a ######### jump.

The SBMM system is only going to work if there is a large enough pool of available survivors and killers at the same skill level at the same time. This is pretty much never true, so the system is going to match you with whoever is waiting next regardless of MMR level. The only way this system will work “fairly” with the current number of players is if you’re willing to wait an extremely long time for a match.

  • Everyone needs to realize that the only way to force BHVR’s hand here is to stop playing the game. From the devs’ perspective right now, all they see is “‘most people are still playing the game and there are a few complainers on the forums, so we don’t really have an urgent problem here.” As long as the player count is acceptable, they’re going to take their sweet time fixing it.

  • The devs know that the map is bugged but they are refusing to kill switch it. Their “solution” was to reduce its frequency. So if you want to play killer then I guess it’s tough **** for you.

I just hit P100 with Leon today 🥳! Also play as Carlos and Chris so you can say I play as 3 different survivors ;)

A strong indication that you might be spending too much time playing video games

Didn't take long for this perk to reappear in the meta.

Almost every game I play the survivors are using it. Starting to get pretty good at faking (t-bag with Ghostface always gets them), but still annoying to go against.

It’s being used a lot, yes, but it’s still way less problematic than the “press E to outplay” version when it was guaranteed safe passage to a window or pallet

The devs made a post asking people to vote them for the labor of love award and obviously got clowned on.

What are you guys thoughts on this?

I don’t think it’s great to keep crapping on the BHVR team, but it often seems like they are out of touch with the community and focus more on changes that they think are great rather than what the community are asking for. Sometimes they do and make positive changes that most players seem to be happy with, but they also do a lot of really frustrating things like 1) rarely admitting and fixing mistakes/bugs quickly; 2) spending lots of time and resources on making (often bad) changes that nobody was asking for; and 3) not prioritizing, changes that are being frequently requested by the community (e.g. solo queue improvements, reworking the bloodweb/item/offering system, buffing very weak killers, etc)
