I'll take the aggro if that survivor has been somewhat useful during the match. If not then they can die, even if that means i must die too.

How do you KNOW if they have been useful in a match? Unless they stood around you all game, it is impossible to tell how many loops they may have taken the Killer on even if they haven't been working Gens, how many unhooks, how many Gens touched. Wouldn't it be better to lean to the side of caution and take that hit?

If this forum is full of killers crying like babies for nerfing all the good survivors perks, let them know we also want to nerf all their good perks. Devs please don't change the perks anymore, it changes the game to much. In my opinion the game is so broken now because of many nerfed perks. The game was just perfect before the nerfing to the perks (survivors&killers perks). Devs, don't try to please everyone, because you did broke the game doing so.

I was going to give you the rhetorical thrashing you deserve, but other people have that covered. I'm relieved really; I don't want to read anymore of your posts than I have already.

  • The entire notion of "us versus them" is a false dichotomy. Most Players take on both roles over the course of their time playing DbD. The few people who remain either a Killer or Survivor "Main" are far fewer in number. I dislike seeing conversations framed as if role anyone is playing matters whatsoever in a logical argument about mechanics.

Just had a game with four toxic survivors, all teabagging and flashlight clicking with an interesting new way of using head on to bully the killer which I'd never seen before. But, damn, is destroying teams like that the most satisfying thing. Just imagining their salty yelling over comms and everything.

    Feels good, man

Absolutely. Hunting SWF is my favorite thing. I don't throw the word "toxic" around because it is pretty subjective, but if you ran into an actual Bully Squad whose goal is to grief the Killer rather than do objectives, you hit the jackpot. Those are truly the most satisfying to destroy. I like to make the match a life lesson.

Not to mention my girlfriend was the one who got me into the game and bought me the premium rift pass for Valentine’s Day. So I’m kinda forced to do the rift.

You have sixty days or so left to complete it. It doesn't have to be binge-played like tearing through an show on Netflix. :) Take it down a few notches and play when it is fun to play and not when it becomes like work.

  • I know it will sound corny and old-fashioned but I've "won" every game where I've given 100% regardless of the outcome. The joy is in the challenge, not the result. You do your best, you learn something in every match, and you take the good with the bad. In short, I won the second I took a stand, fought the good fight, and finished the game. Like I said, it is an old-fashioned notion.

  • @Milo said:

Actually, what is the secondary action button for survivors?

Cause it could be weird with Dead Hard.

Good point, but I'm sure some button could be designated. I just think in the case of Poised, to make it viable, teh Survivor needs more control over when it activates.

The entire match all three of them were clustered together gen rushing. They weren’t planning on saving anyone I bet that wasn’t in their little threesome group.

Sadly, this is probably true. One of the reasons I'm a STRONG advocate for splitting Solo and Team into different Ques is the 3-Person SWF is the worst. They often (well most of the time in fact) treat the Solo saddled with them as a "Red Shirt" in the classic Star Trek meaning of the term. You were a useful asset to them, nothing more. And yes, as you are not really "one of them" you are considered an acceptable sacrifice. It is just one more way in which SWF is problematic when not it its own Que.

  • You do you. Run whatever Perks and Add-On(s) you desire. You did, after all, pay for them with Blood Points that you EARNED in play. There is nothing wrong with NOED in any event. The only thing you have to do to be a good sport here is:

    1. Don't cheat, either by hack or lag spike.
    2. Don't disconnect; if you start a game, finish it.
    3. Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

Everything else is on the table and entirely up to you. Ignore any quacking, faceless voice on the internet trying to tell you what is "toxic" or what the unofficial (but really official) morals and morays are hereabouts. These people are simply being bad sports and trying to blame their own failures on other people, and or manipulate/grief you to affect the game outside of matches. Ignore them.

  • @Dragonshensi said:

I know this has the potential of high ranking killers and survivors never getting matches but at the same time I’m curious if the ranking system should be shown in Lobby’s before a match. To make sure everyone is even and low ranks aren’t going up against a red rank killer or vice versa. Considering I’m Level 15 Killer and I’ve been getting red rank survivors it leads to just a miserable experience. I know though that this would be open to abuse but I’m open to hearing other opinions.

Rank is entirely irrelevant at this point; it has been so for some time. When the fabled MMR system finally appears (and hopefully is working) there will be a whole new way Players are rated and placed in opposition. If it works (and that is a BIG if) bad matches should be a bit rarer. *Of course I'm still amused and wondering how they plan on matching up SWF, i.e. are they going to use the weakest rating on the team or the strongest. I think it should be the strongest, or they will have made Smurfing base kit to the game for SWF.

I feel your pain pulling all those Red Rank, but I assure you that is sadly the norm and was the same for me. If it makes you feel any better, a lot of those Red Rank are no better than potatoes. I was in a game the other day where I was torturing the Survivors. It became clear to me that somehow I'd been matched with total newbies, or at the very least it was a "taste the rainbow" situation. I immediately took my play down MANY notches to at least let them get some points and learn something. Turns out that wasn't necessary....

These guys were all Red Ranks. How? I don't know. Had I known they were "supposedly" Red Ranks I would have killed them all in the first five minutes rather than stretching the game to 20+. They were SERIOUSLY that bad. Long story short (too late), the color Ranks are entirely meaningless, and I would just ignore them and play the game.

It would be great if the forums were linked to our DBD accounts in some way, so we could see the rank 18 Killer accounts the people have who post these threads

Particularly when the most outrageous claims often come with a statement that says I've got 2K+ hours and I'm a Red Rank Killer and Survivor and got to them in less than a week... yadda.... yadda... yadda. Yeah, I do wish that accounts here had to be linked to a specific Dead by Daylight Steam (or whatever) account and we got to SEE their credentials; I really do.

I understand your point. I just don't like the fact that someone thinks that I'm the reason for ruining some other's lives. if I randomly disconnect in a match regardless of me not knowing there is a situation, is that my fault?

If you randomly disconnect once, that happens. If it happens twice, you know you have an issue and should at that point be taking steps to correct it. If you continue joining matches when you know it is going to keep happening, that is NO LONGER random. That is a pattern and you are choosing to continue it. Do you see the difference?

Everyone, myself included, gets dumped from time to time. As I stated at the start, I also live in an area that REGULARLY is covered with snow and has unreliable internet even when there ISN'T a crazy emergency. Whenever the problem rears its ugly head, I sigh and find other things to do. Right now, I'm talking to you. Let me be clear, nobody is going to fault you for the odd random, spread out drops. But if they start happening a lot and frequently, you are then making a choice. That is why the penalties start small and then get BIGGER.

And, why so mad? You don't have to be hostile. For all you know this could be a kid.

I'm not mad; I'm precise. I pride myself on being direct and to the point. There is no way to candy coat this issue. Insisting on playing when you have unreliable internet is rude to all the other people you inconvenience. There are literally thousands of other games which are played solo, i.e. against Bots. Play one of those until your internet improves. And for the record, I don't care if the OP is a kid or an adult, good manners and good sportsmanship should start early.

More to the point, I'm being honest and pragmatic about one key thing. The disconnect penalties aren't going anywhere. Any energy and angst spent posting about them is at best venting, and at worst a waste of your time. The sooner one comes to accept that is just how things are the sooner one can move forward with options that actually matter. I want to go back to that "mad" thing, because what I actually am is "disgusted" and "amazed" that we have so many people today who care so little about others in relation to their own immediate gratification.

For you? Or for millions that might be affected? Show me where it says to turn off DC penalty because one person don't like it. Do something else? Maybe they don't have anything else to do and is just biding time. If you don't like his or her question then why don't you find something else to do??? I bet you got upset with that huh? Exactly. If people want to play even during this time it's their choice. Try respecting that and you'll get respected.

Nothing does prevent you for insisting on playing (however rude and foolish it may be). You will simply have to accept that you can and WILL be penalized every time you disconnect and screw up a match. The choice is yours. They aren't going to turn of the penalties for you.

You don't understand either I CLEARY said It is something THAT IS NOT IN MY POSSESSION TO CONTROL and you're saying it's my fault. I wonder how you feel when that happens to you. You clearly don't understand my point. I DO NOT want to argue with someone that thinks that I'm the reason for ruining other people's lives.

It isn't a difficult concept. Let me give you an analogy. If you are extremely sick, let's say suffering from Covid-19, should you be out and about shopping and hanging out around other people? Getting sick wasn't your fault either, but CHOOSING to expose other people to Covid-19 would be YOUR choice.

Does that put it in context for you. Right now your internet is SICK. It means you will drop out of the games more frequently. Is it your fault the weather is bad? No. Is it your fault for insisting on playing WHILE your internet is bad? YES. You and I have the same problem right now; the difference is that I am choosing to do things that will not screw over four other Players if my internet drops. I understand you completely. There is no gray area here.

🤣🤣 thanks for the paragraph saying absolutely nothing. You obviously can't read or better yet interpret what we're talking about. Right now we're in a state of emergency. Ask I said about being penalised is. They should take it off right now during the winter storm. You're talking about entitlement yet in the same sentence tell people what they should play during these troubling times. Oh I GET IT NOW.... YOU'RE NOT EFFECTED BY WHAT'S GOING IN SO YOU DON'T CARE. If that's the case then continue not caring and also not commenting to me. Regardless if I'm the one being affected or not, I can sympathise with others.

Lots of people are in that same state of emergency. And if it is that big an emergency for you, WHY are you playing video games? You will forgive me if I don't have any sympathy for you. And as it happens, I am being affected by the SAME emergency. Why do you think I'm here posting and talking to an entitled person such as yourself rather than playing the game? Which do you think I would RATHER be doing? Posting doesn't inconvenience anyone if I lose internet during the process. All that will happen is I have to redo the post. I have the good manners NOT to be trying to play matches right now.

  • @unluckycombo said:

I personally don't think they are. I mean, if someone wants out, they're just going to kill themselves on first hook and make the game worse for everyone else anyway.

Besides that, I don't really think they're necessary since I just see this as a casual game. Sure, it sucks that someone DC's, but I just don't see it as bad as someone DC-ing in Comp matches of other games.

(Obviously though, not encouraging DC-ing. I don't think it's good for someone to DC every game or anything- but I don't think having the DC Penalty really does anything to alleviate that problem or make it better, besides forcing the people who want to DC to kill themselves on first hook and throw- which still ruins the game for everyone.)

Ok, so YOU don't see this as anything but a casual game. YOU don't feel disconnecting is as big a deal as doing it in Comp matches of other games. Why is that? Are those other games MORE important to you, and thus aren't casual? What about the people playing THIS game who DO find the matches important? What I'm pointing out is this is a rather selfish way of looking at it, i.e. because it isn't that important to you, it shouldn't matter if you disconnect; screw those other people. Or as Cartman would say, "screw you guys... I'm going home."

This does not make sense. it is not my fault I'm having internet issues. I feel attacked by the way you said it's my fault people have to suffer.

Let me make this crystal clear, since you don't understand yet.

    1. You clearly KNOW you are having internet issues, correct?
    2. You are CHOOSING to play anyway, correct?
    3. The other Players who have their games screwed over by you are being inconvenienced, correct?

Do you see where I'm going with this? If you know you are having issues, you should not be playing until said issues are corrected. YOU are making a choice which you know will cause other people grief. That IS under your control, and thus the responsibility is YOURS.

  • @Velvetcake1027 said:

No they aren't. DC penalties was created to help tunnelling camping killers out. Killers complained that survivors was DCing and messing up their camping and tunnelling fun. After all... It's all about the killers having fun right?

Ummm.... hrm. I'm not sure how to respond to this in a kind, gentle way. So I'll point out a few things to you:

    1. Killers aren't the ones seriously put out when you disconnect; it is the other Survivors you screw over.
    2. The game doesn't provide fun, only a framework. You are responsible for your own fun.
    3. If you have been getting disconnected a great deal, and getting penalties, you DESERVE them.

Where do all you entitled, spoiled people come from? I'm sure you don't behave like this in person. Is it the computer interface that makes you think everyone you are dealing with online is a Bot or simply doesn't matter? Let me put this in perspective for you. It doesn't matter WHY you are getting disconnected, whether it is intentional or some external problem. The fact is you insist on playing when you know there is an issue and you are inconveniencing other people. Then you have the audacity to complain about being penalized for doing it?

  • @Imagine_Milk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1953001#Comment_1953001

So you're saying it's my fault for inconveniencing 4 others?

Yes. If you know your internet is having problems, you should not be trying to play a game in which four other people rely on you. You aren't playing with Bots. So yes, if you INSIST on playing when you know there is an issue, that is ON YOU. Fix your issues or wait out the weather. Jump back in when all is well. That is the polite thing to do.

  • @Imagine_Milk said:

So where I live, it is snowing. And usually, when it snows I lose connection to the server and I disconnect because of something that I can't control. I understand that DC penalties were created to prevent people from DCing too much and joining and do the same thing consistently. But the one problem with this is that there is no real way to determine whether the Disconnect purpose was intentional or it was something that cant be controlled so as an internet outage. I do not want to have this happen to me a lot anymore because if it does I could end up becoming banned from this game temporarily or permanently and I do not want that to happen to me. So, are Dc penalties really necessary?

I live in Maine; it snows here a lot too. Get over it. The disconnect penalties should absolutely NOT be set aside. If you are having internet problems or reliability issues for ANY reason, it is polite not to play until they are corrected. All you are doing is inconveniencing four other people by insisting on trying to play when you know there is a good chance you will disconnect. Why on Earth do you feel it is ok to do this to other people?

BTW games can be PVP and have non-ranked modes.

Some games off the top of my head which have ranked and unranked game modes which also find players for you:

    • Halo
    • CoD
    • Hearthstone
    • Gears of War

Pretty much all of the big games in fact.

Yes, but there is a difference in those games, and I'm sure you know what it is already. DbD is asymmetrical. Again, why would Dead by Daylight profit from a Non-Ranked Que which dilutes their play base creating longer Ques for all involved. So far, they don't even want to break Team off from Solo even though that would be an obvious solution to many of their balance issues. :)

What you are hoping for isn't going to happen, at least not officially. Unofficially, what do you think you have RIGHT NOW? :) Just playing Devil's Advocate here, but what meaning do you think Rank holds currently? It clearly has no bearing on what Ranks you are fighting against. If I were to guess, right now the only Ranking system is first in, first out. Which would be what you want, right? They are just never going to admit that because this is an asymmetrical game which causes high levels of frustration based on most people's notion of fairness.

So if you really want to get down and dirty, you ALREADY have a non-ranked version of the game in application, even if officially is "has" Ranks. Hell, they have even said that shortly Rank will have no bearing on the game except to calculate a free BP bonus at the end of the month. I submit it already has no bearing on your matchmaking

  • @daddywillylong said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1951970#Comment_1951970

ok , it works for you , good for you. whether theres a non-ranked mode or not, custom games will still be there. accounting for the playerbase as a whole and not just you and your friends, it isnt convenient.

Let me be direct; you aren't being realistic. There is "no such animal" as a non-ranked mode that has Ques in PvP games. I'm not sure where you got such a notion. PvP games, by their nature, have to have some kind of measure to put the right people up against one another. Thus, there will always be some kind of ranking, whether you see it or not. :) Do you follow?

Thus, the only way to have a non-ranked game is for YOU and your friends to arrange one. It is never going to be available through a Que or provide you any kind of advancement or BP. These games just aren't designed that way. Dead by Daylight wouldn't, for example, profit from having a non-ranked game because all it would do is dilute the Player base in a way which makes their main Ques LONGER.

  • I don't think popular Streamers taking a break for DbD are going to cause others to do so too. I think it is odd to suggest that people would not make their own choices. However, I do think it is telling that people who make their living streaming video games are deciding that DbD is not currently up to their standards. That is not a good sign. Will it kill DbD? No, of course not. Games don't just die, i.e. turn off like a light. They fade away like film franchises, slowing going from classic cinema in the first movies to embarrassing schlock by the last few sequels. Dead by Daylight is going to be around for a long time, but that doesn't tell us anything about the quality or how many of us will still be showing up to play it.

People who get PAID to stream playing video games are EXCELLENT canaries in the coal mine. It means they are making a professional choice which impacts their wallet. That has weight. BEhavior should take it seriously.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1951945#Comment_1951945

i hope u dont think thats a solution though. thats a nice band-aid fix but, it doesn't compare to just que'ing-up like we do now and being placed in matches at our own leisure without needing friends to be on. killer or survivor , if your friends arent on then..now what ? what if people just want to chill and not be in party chat with their friends and play random matches without the bs that comes with this flawed ranking system that affects peoples playstyles and match-making times.

I think it is "a" solution; whether or not it works for you I don't know. :) It works for me. The truth is that you can get a game together anytime you want. I find that if I want to play there are always enough people I can contact besides my "close" friends for a match. If not a quick call out on Discord will get you people too. Is it ideal? No. Does it work? Yes. My friends list on Steam is pretty extensive based just on people I've played with from the normal Que and there are almost always enough of them online for me to send a shout out.

In fact, I find custom games more fun than Que games because of the control we all have over everything, i.e. what map, what options, what we agree to put off limits, etc. There is no salt, at least none that we don't all understand is good-natured giving crap to one's friends. And there really isn't any wait time either, beyond just getting the people together in the first place. I'd say I've shifted at least 25% of my games entirely to custom matches of late, and that number may grow.

  • @daddywillylong said:

if this game was truly competitive then it would have a non-ranked mode first of all. lets give behavior that idea first before suggesting anything else ; because what you typed is about 50 years worth of progress and updates for them....lool hahaha

Technically it DOES have a non-ranked mode. It is called a "custom" game. You can play them all you want and it has no effect on your Rank. They are great for practice, casual games with friends, and trying out any Perk or Add-on that interests you.

Because as I mentioned it was 1 meter away from the escape line. Which means if I hit the healthy survivor the one on the ground will crawl out. There is no point to hit the healthy person in that scenario.

I read that but they can't move while being healed either, so kind of a catch-22 I guess. I would hope that if you hit the healer and immediately tried to pick them up you might get them. I've never had someone in the dying state make it that close to the exit with another person still in the game with them. Weird. I would have thought said person would have been able to intercept and heal someone dying a lot sooner than at the exit line. What were they doing, making that poor sap crawl all the way to them in the gate? "Sorry buddy but I'm not risking my butt; you crawl to me here at the line or you don't get healed." :)

  • @VicThor said:

Yesterday I had match as a killer. I managed to down a survivor right in front the escape line. There was about 1 meter distance, however I couldn't pick her up because her survivor mate was keep healing her, then she crawled a bit and then again, so I couldn't even initiate the pick up animations. Is this a bug? Or is this intended? If yes why killer pick up isn't prioritised over healing?

You know, I've never noticed this because I never look a gift horse in the mouth. Why wouldn't you take the free hit on the person healing the downed Survivor? If they continue healing, hit them again. :) Seriously, I've never tried to pick someone up while someone else was healing them because I've always taken the free shot.

I can see your point on it but I guess I can’t see this issue as fully black and white. What if the killer or a survivor is a hacker? Should you still not DC cause of the others? I’m sure never DCing is not the only option. Just saying it’s not black and white.

Correct; you should not DC. If you aren't already recording, you need to turn it on and finish the match and do your best to get the hacker on screen doing things which are evidence. Then you report at the end of the game and submit the video through channels. That is how we get rid of hackers. We can agree to disagree whether this is a black and white issue. Me, I'm not going to disconnect on purpose. The only time you will ever see "Mr. Moundshroud" disconnect from a game is because Spectrum failed me and my internet went down. I live in Maine, the Northeast of the US, and during the winter we can lose power or internet now and then. Otherwise, I don't care how awful the game is because I take pride in myself and I'm not going to be roll over or go stand in a corner. I'm going to go down fighting; RAGE against the dying of the light!

Come to think of it I think Mr. Dylan Thomas should be quoted in full:

Do not go gentle into that good night,

    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Also need to understand that maybe they don’t have any other games to play atm. With the pandemic and most people losing their jobs maybe DBD is the only game they can afford right now.

Ok? That is a fair point, but it doesn't alter the fact that disconnecting does a disservice to everyone involved. It is bad sportsmanship and it only creates a negative feedback loop. Look, I don't enjoy every match I play; no one does. I stick them out because doing so ensures that someone else in that match who MIGHT be having fun doesn't get cheated. I do it because I hope that someone else will do the same for me sometime. This is the game. This is the state of the game right now. You have to decide if getting in the Que is worth it. If not, get the hell out of that Que. If you stay in, you need to finish your match. Play them all to the end, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

And as to something else one can do during this Pandemic, I can strongly suggest audio books on Youtube. They are free. All the wonders of great literature and none of the eye strain. You can even do housework while you listen. I'm not being snide or sarcastic here. I'm pointing out that if someone has internet to play Dead by Daylight, they have internet to access entire WORLDS of wonderful things. People forget that there are books and audio books online a'plenty. There are free games in the hundreds (if not thousands). There are more shows and movies (free) than one could watch in a lifetime at any given time. I'm not being mean, but I don't think your argument holds that much water. If you want to play Dead by Daylight, you accept the good with the bad and you finish your matches. If you don't want to play, don't play.

I can kinda see both sides of the argument. At least with how broken the game is atm. I have died on first hook a few times due to broken spawn points. Had a few matches where I didn’t even have time to move at the start of the match and the killer was already on me and hit me. With a start like that I honestly didn’t want to finish anymore.

And I'm not making a moral judgement on people feeling like they want to quit matches. I'm just saying if that is the case, said people should considering quitting the game. It sounds like it would be win/win for everyone if they did? There are people who are not that unhappy with the game and still having fun playing it. They are sabotaged by people who are NOT having fun and quitting matches and thus sabotaging everyone else.

Some things I see in black and white. If one isn't having fun, don't play the game. If one chooses to play knowing the rules (and the issues currently ongoing) they ethically should finish the match. It is bad sportsmanship to do otherwise. We cannot control problems external to ourselves, but we can take pride in our personal brand and control those things which are internal.

Thus, if I start a game, I'm going to finish it (whether I'm having fun or not). If I find I'm not having fun on a regular basis, I take a break from the game. I mean really, if people are that unhappy with Dead by Daylight currently, it makes more sense to take a break and play something else until whatever issues are bothering them are resolved.

  • I want to start by saying I think this is silly. The game isn't dying. The updates need to come with fewer problems, if for no other reasons than our sanity and their pride, but it takes more than annoying updates to kill a game. However, to lighten the mood and carve some fun out of this situation, I played with the lyrics to Bye Bye Miss American Pie:

    A long, long time ago

I can still remember how that game

    Used to make me smile

And I knew if I had my chance

That I could make those Survivors dance

And maybe the Entity would be happy for a while

    But February made me shiver

With every update the DEV delivered

Bad bugs and animations we regret

And if they’d fix them I wouldn’t bet

    I can't remember if I cried

When I experienced the update’s lack of pride

    Something touched me deep inside

The day Dead by Daylight died

So, bye-bye to Perks on which we relied

Chased Meg through Gideon; the pallets made me cry

And them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye

Singin', "This'll be the day the game dies

This'll be the day the game dies"

  • The Clown's new incarnation is absolutely an improvement, i.e. he has powerful potential. Obviously, the improved reload time doesn't take any skill to utilize and is just plain awesome. The rest, however, is more complicated. I like to compare him to Nurse, because to unlock that potential Players have a STEEP learning curve. Using the new bottle effectively takes finesse and timing.

  • I'm just of the view that if you aren't going to finish your games, why are you starting them in the first place? Do yourself (and the other people you are inconveniencing by being selfish) a favor and find another game. Call me old-fashioned, but if I find myself wanting to quit a game frequently, I clearly am not enjoying it. Why would I continue to do something that I do not enjoy? So, please ask yourself WHY you are getting in the Que if you don't intend to see it through. There are literally thousands of games available at your fingertips. Go play one that you are serious about.

  • I'm going to say the same thing here that I always say when people cry or whine about any tactic. When I play Killer (I play both roles), I will Herd, Slug, Camp, Tunnel, and Mori if a particular match calls for it. It isn't personal, and one cannot know ahead of time what will be called for until you are in the match. No plan survives contact with the enemy. My job, when playing Killer, is to kill as many Survivors as possible. That's it. I have no other measure of success, period.

What I will say, however, is that what I (as the Killer) do is largely a result of SURVIVOR behavior, not a strategy. If the Survivors are all clustered together or overly altruistic, of course I'm going to slug many of them down. If they give me the opportunity, why wouldn't I do this? When it comes to slugging, Survivors create the situation, not the Killer. Don't offer us a buffet, and we won't pig out. The same is true of Tunneling as a tactic. Most of the time it isn't the result of a Killer's plan (even if I'd love to take credit) but rather the poor play of Survivors who create the situation with unsafe rescues, vanishing like Ninja the second they unhook someone leaving the injured as the only viable target, and/or simply being unwilling to take protection hits and so on. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Killers are not the so-called "power role" and must react to the movements of Survivors. It is the four who call the tune for the one. While Killers can, with great effort and work, take control of the game, they spend most of the time waiting for Survivors to make mistakes. Slugging at 4-5 Generators simply is not possible unless the Survivors allow it, and I do mean "allow" it.

So I have a big problem with my anger. When one simple thing doesn't work the match is basically ruined for me and I want to improve that. Any tips to get not so easily tilted, angry or toxic?

Well, Otz did a great video on it:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6vpgy40xiQ&t=4s

By in large I don't tell people not to get mad, because that is something that is hard to control. Use Otz's advice, and if you are still angry, channel it into something productive. I call it the difference between "hot" angry and "cold" angry. In short, let that fury go cold and patient, and channel it into resolve to achieve some end and payback your DbD tormentors as your Skills improve.

  • I like Iron Will but I think it should also cover up one's regular breathing, as well as moans of pain in the dying state. I think it is odd that I'm utterly silent when it comes to pain, but Stridor users find me via just normal breathing easily enough (well the Spirit does anyway).

  • I've played on it enough now to comment.

    1. The Game needed an update both visually and for balance reasons.
    2. It was Killer-sided previously.
    3. The correct fix was not to make it crazy Survivor-sided. There are too many pallets, and far too many "safe" or "god" pallets.

I think the fix is simple enough, i.e. simply reduce some of these pallets from being able to spawn at the same time, particularly the safe ones. Do I think it will happen? Yes. The overcorrection is COMICALLY bad. When every Fog Whisperer is making fun of you, it pays to take note. The rest of us are sure to find our voices as well.

Visually, I love the new map. Balance needs an adjustment back towards the center. The bad thing about a map like this is that it pretty much encourages camping in some form or another. When looping literally takes forever, Killers are better served by hooking whomever they get down in a relatively cleared our area and then proxy camping so they can dictate where the rest of the match is going to take place. The 3-Gen strategy is going to be the "go to" option on The Game. I'm just being pragmatic here. I found myself doing this unconsciously without even thinking about it. When I reviewed the videos of the matches I played, I saw a clear pattern emerge wherein once I got the first person down, usually after an extended bit of looping and dropping of pallets, I planted my flag in that area and simply didn't patrol the entire map. I found I rather give up those other Generators and fight for the three in long, drawn out matches in the areas I'd already cleared of pallets.

I don't think this is a healthy way to go, but Killers are going to do what they MUST do to win. Not all Killers have the anti-looping options. I play Myers, for example, and I don't have the tech to fight forever in those pallets. A lot of Killers don't have the right tools. If Blood Favor was more viable, I would use it, but let's be honest, it is a joke. :)

I certainly agree that killers have been driven to tunneling. And perhaps, code, is too strong of a word. It's more a decision to play a certain way aware that your win definition may need to change.

I also enjoy your posts. You are one of those forum mates that make me evaluate my positions and consider other perspectives.

I am trying to redefine what a win is to me. And attempt to play this game with a little less ego and more empathy. It took a long journey through every aspect of this game to reach this point.

Maybe I'm an idealist, maybe I'll return to my former cutthroat playstyle, or maybe I'll truly learn to just have fun with this game.

In either case, the recent influx of positive messages has been nice.

Ditto. And I hold myself to a high ethical standard. If I find that you are right, and tunneling has become the new META, I'll be the first to admit it and eat crow. I just don't feel that yet. Either way, I think the solution will be in another Meta shift. People just do what they gotta do.

Look, I get what you are saying. But to pretend this code doesn't exist is nonsense. If it didn't, then why do so many streamers attempt to adhere to it?

And killer has definitely improved, and is the easiest it has ever been. I have played since 2017 and have used every tactic in the book. I am not judging, just stating an observation based off of 4 years playing this game.

Sorry but the SWF issue is not going away. People want to play with their friends and most are not even that good. I know you slaughter plenty of half assed SWFs. The optimal ones are maybe 1 or 2 in ten. And I'd counter that 4 optimal solos are just as formidable.

And tunneling as the new meta is not an insult. I support everyone's right to play how they want. And I agree it is in response to no heal gen rush meta that is now.

But if we could all remove a bit of ego from our gameplay, perhaps we could make this game a bit more fun. Admittedly it took me over 3 years to reach this mindset.

In fairness, I do kill plenty of SWF; I pride myself on it. But I would be lying if I said it was all my personal skill. I have adapted to a SWF Meta. I don't just play Spooky Myers (Cracked Mirror + Boyfriend's Memo) because it is my favorite (although it is). I play him because he is the most effective build I have against a SWF. They thrive on information and coordination. Any Killer which denies them info (while providing me lots) allows me to turn what is normally their strength against them. The current (broken) version of OoO is largely pointless against a Spooky Myers. In fact, it tends to just help me. Keys loaded up with the ability to track the Killer's aura are rendered useless. No Terror radius makes it harder for them to triangulate my position on the map by passing info back and forth to each other. Borrowed Time doesn't activate against a Spooky Myers, and on and on. You get the idea.

My point is I do like Myers; I really like the Spooky Myers. I continue to play him most because he is my best answer to SWF. You and I don't disagree on all that much. I like most of your posts too. We just disagree on this notion of a code. Even Otz (just the other day in a video I watched) kind of laughed to himself as he found he tunneled. He said, "I guess it is just in my DNA." Most of the big Streamers will CHALLENGE themselves because they are THAT good. But even they have a hard time adhering to that ridiculous standard (and often fail). Remember, I watch them all too trying to get THAT good myself. :) Expecting non-Superstars to abide by a losing strategy is unrealistic. Killers adapt to Survivors, and vice versa. If (and remember I don't agree that tunneling is any more common now than before) the new Meta is tunneling, it is because the Killers are being driven to it. There aren't suddenly more "jerks" than there were "back in the day."

as it stands this perk has no counterplay besides simply avoiding ALL lockers.

solo head-on is not an issue. Coordinated SWF head-ons IS the issue that needs to be addressed.

The survivor I chase baits me into a locker where their friend is at and then he ######### head-ons me and stuns me. ######### up my chase in the process.

They can keep doing this over, and over while the other 2 do gens. I can't get a single down because of head on.

there is ZERO counterplay besides being completely paranoid of every locker. How am I suppose to chase anyone?

It can be countered. Here is a video of me taking over a game from my gal who ran into a Bully Squad using Head On (and flashlights) for the purposing of trying to get the Killer to disconnect. They had no plans to play the game and even went out of their way to make noise and bait her to the shack. She didn't know how to deal with it either, but she eventually handed me the controls. It has counter play. Watch the ENTIRE video and you will see quite a bit:

  • It depends on what I'm looking for on a given day. For sheer ENTERTAINMENT value, it is Monto hands down. He is a showman. You can learn a lot from him, but he isn't there to teach you. He is there to make you laugh at his antics and comments. Stalky Boi is likewise a hoot to watch. Otz is pretty entertaining too, but he falls in the next grouping for me.

For educational value Otz wins hands down. Jung and TrU3Ta1ent fall among these as well, but they are both kind of dry compared to Otz. Don't get me wrong, I like their shows, but I can't watch them consistently like I do Otz.

  • @Clevite said:

Tunneling is the new Meta. People have learned it is an effective strategy for winning. And, there was a code in the early days that it was kinda a BS move.

But, everyone calls this the survivor rulebook and argues it should be completely ignored. But people forget many old school killers enjoyed the challenge of playing within a certain respect to the sportsmanship of it.

But, the reality is, it is an ego driven tactic. The fear of losing, the desire to feed their ego another 4k supercedes any empathy towards their opponents.

And many survivor players breed this mindset in killers by tbagging at the gates and sending ######### messages when they are learning as killer or just losing.

I simply have not experienced anything to convince me that it is any more common now than it was last year. It feels exactly the SAME to me. I play almost all Solo when I'm a Survivor so I have a pretty good feel for all the ups and downs. However, for the sake of fairness, I will play Devil's Advocate and address tunneling as if it is the new Meta. I would argue, if that was the case, that it is more directly related to the ever increasing regularity (and potency) of the SWF and their 5th Perk (Comms). That nonsense about a "code" is just that, nonsense. I've listened to (and know personally) several "old school" Players, and they tell me that things used to be worse for Killers (far worse) and they played a LOT dirtier to compensate.

The simple truth is that Killers and Survivors adapt to one another. There are more SWF now and they benefit from a huge information advantage and coordination. The Mori no longer exists in its previous form. The only way to take the game rapidly from a 4v1 to a 3v1 is to tunnel someone out early if possible. Against a coordinated SWF, the loss of one person early is 75% MORE effective as it is against Solo. So, do I think there are Killers who will take a game for a 4v1 to a 3v1 as rapidly as they can? Yes. Do I think it is any more common than it was before? Possibly but I am not privy to the stats nor have I felt that myself. *But again, I'm playing Solo.

I don't want to hear any nonsense about a "code" back in the day. Things were HARDER (way harder) on Killers way back in the day. It wasn't a code that kept them in check, it was that the game was stacked against them. The DEV have slowly but surely tried to balance it so that they maintain ENOUGH Killers to keep the game going. It is always a tightrope they have to walk, i.e. a "rough" balance because DbD doesn't work without both Killers AND Survivors. There are no Bots. If you want Killers to not feel like they need to "go for the throat" as early in the game as possible, deal with the SWF issue. There is NO HONOR in playing in a SWF, and it is the height of hypocrisy to complain about Killers adapting their tactics to deal with them.

I feel like you both assume that I'm at rank 15 and don't actually know how to play the game, but I've been playing for a little over a year now, watch streams and videos almost every day and very much know how the game works. All I'm saying is that, yes, I can agree with the OP that as of the event, killers in my matches are relentlessly tunneling the first person they find out of the game and it isn't very enjoyable, especially with these horribles hitboxes as of late. I played four games tonight and the tunnelling happened in all four. Twice to me, twice to my teammates.

And I really don't agree with the 'you're doing something wrong' theory. Because how can it be my fault if the killer decides to tunnel my teammate? Or is it my teammate's fault then? :^)

Than neither I, nor anyone else can help you. The first step in solving a problem is admitting that YOU have one. If you feel there is nothing you could do better (nor your teammates) and are convinced this is entirely external and not linked to you in any way, you might as well find another game. I'm not saying that to be snide; I'm just being pragmatic. Consider:

    1. If you are right, then you are screwed. There is nothing that can be done about it. They aren't changing the game for you.
    2. If you are wrong, then you are still screwed because you refuse to own it and thus can never do anything to change things.

In short, there are no other options; you have made SURE of that. I wish you the best, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Well until someone does actual measurements, we can't know for sure. It felt about the same to me.

True. Perhaps I've just gotten more efficient on the map, but it feels a LOT smaller to me. I used to dread pulling Crotus maps when I play Spooky Myers. I'm just too slow for it, but now I'm hell on wheels on that map.

I'm not saying this always happens to me, it's just a trend I've been noticing since the event started. I do watch those people on Youtube on a daily basis, but I'm not sure what that has to do with anything? I'm actually not really sure what you're trying to tell me... I know for a fact they're not tunneling me because of something I do wrong, I'm just a standard-looking Felix without items (because I hate relying on them) and regular perks...

And what I'm saying is yes, you (or your teammates) are doing something wrong. I do something wrong every match. I watch the videos to record what I did with a less biased eye, and what I could do better. If you like more positive language, there are things you could do BETTER, if you prefer that to saying "I did something wrong." It amounts to the same thing.

What I'm pointing out, which is the same thing the superstars of this game say, is that most tunneling is the result of Survivor behavior, NOT Killer behavior.

Which maps ? Barely any maps got shrunked, from what I remember, only like Thompson house and maybe Temple of Purgation was made smaller (which was ages ago) other then that, it was all layout changes, not the actual size. Not even gen positions were tampered with almost at all distance wise, map reworks were focued mainly on removing/weakening of god loops + graphically updating them.

Besides that, all the meta killers have strong enough mobility so even before the map reworks, none of them struggled with long distances.

I haven't looked at the new, updated dimensions of Crotus but I can now cross it much quicker than before. It certainly feels smaller. :)

Just played another game, my teammate got tunneled out at four gens remaining while I saved him with BT and tried everything I could to take aggro. But sure, I'm the problem.

Again, I don't know what to tell you buddy beyond the fact that we all have been where you are now. We all face the same Killers and the same Meta. For some reason we do not all have the same problem you do. At some point, you have to own up to the fact that the issue is starting with you and your fellow Survivors. If you don't believe me, watch some of the videos from the superstars like Otz, Jund, etc. They will tell you the same thing, but perhaps you will give their words more weight because they have some minor celebrity. :)

I play red ranks and also experience heavy tunnelling, even at five gens. And for some reason it's always me. :^)

And I'm sorry; it is time for a moment of TOUGH LOVE. The only thing ALL those Killers playing against you have in common is.... YOU. That means you are the common denominator of the issue. :) It means, sadly, that statistically YOU are the cause of the issue, not the Killers.
