    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/322981/to-people-saying-nurse-has-the-highest-skill-ceiling

In my opinion there are killer I think have a higher skill ceiling. The main one I’ll mention here is Pinhead. His possessed chain has a similar summon to a nurse blink and also requires that you hit a precise projectile. All this and you aren’t even guaranteed the hit and have to use your basic M1 mechanics to secure it. This is already more of a skill ceiling than nurse and that’s not even taking into account box management. Skilled coenobites using Lethal pursuer can figure out where the box spawns correlating to survivors positions.

Oh dear, here we go. You're missing a number of crucial points.

    1) Pinhead is a 115% killer. Even if you never use his power, you can literally still chase survivors down as per normal. Nurse is completely dependent on her blinks... and specifically getting accurate blinks to hit the target. Therefore, Nurse requires more mastery as she has more obstacles.

    2) Pinhead's possessed chain, whilst fair enough requires you to aim and hit a target, cannot be equated to Nurse's blinks. He can literally see exactly where the chain will open, and there's a long window where he can look around and aim with it. In contrast, Nurse (by default) cannot see where her blink will land and has to commit to it anyway, with a very short window to do anything about it. And after the blink there is a punishing cooldown where she cannot see the survivors, nor can she use her power again, nor move. Therefore, Nurse has more obstacles to overcome and has a higher ceiling.

If you want to equate the chain to something, it's closer to Huntress hatchets and Deathslingers rifle where you can just aim and shoot, and carry on chasing... except they're 110% killers so Cenobite still has a movement advantage on top of them.

    3) Cenobite literally gets free slowdown during the course of the match. At least one survivor has to get off gens to find and solve the cube. When this happens, Cenobite can instantly transport to where they are (no mis-transportations, etc). If he's successful at capturing the box, or the survivors don't get the cube, the survivors literally get harassed by chains where it's very difficult (impossible, contextually) for them to complete objectives. Nurse gets none of this. Whilst she's in chase with a survivor, the other survivors are free to complete objectives without hindrance.

    4) Nurse's ability comes with a lot of restrictions... one of which is the inconsistent blinking out of basement. I can't tell you how many times this week alone I've just had my blinks swallowed and been trapped down there... forced to suffer fatigue, wait for the recharge and just float up the stairs, losing a lot of valuable time in the process. Cenobite doesn't need to go through any of this.

Exactly how balanced and fair were you being when you came up with this position of yours?? Seems to me your analysis was exceptionally shallow.

You are describing how Nurse has a higher skill floor than most killers. You are misusing the word ceiling in this context.

I’ve always thought of a skill ceiling as the highest level to which a power can be used. Sure pinhead is less powerful than nurse but to get to the highest level with him is much harder imo.

I do agree with you. I just think it’s what most people are actually meaning when they say Nurse has the highest skill ceiling.

Nurse isn’t that hard to learn not to master to begin with. It’s just her high power potential and the actual different concept of her power compared to an other killer just naturally make people think she is hard to master.. also it doesn’t help that some of the Nurse mains/streamers act like it’s oh so hard.

  • I think when people are talking about Nurses high skill ceiling they are also taking into account the actual power she is bringing with her that for example Pinhead does not. While he may be harder to master he just doesn’t have the same power potential.

Blight on the other hand is an actual contender. High skill floor (though due to being M1-able not as high as Nurse), but definitely very high skill ceiling and high power potential. Still i would say he is more map dependent compared to Nurse..

1.) We should really not care about the sexual orientation of characters in general - but especially not the likes of killers. Characters like Clown or Hag should never ever ever ever be sexualized in any way. They are not characters created for this in any manor, nor are they curtailed to be perceived in such a way as to be relevant to humanity. I understand that there are a few people who sexualize killers on a fanfiction level, but this should be relegated to community interpretation - killers are not meant to be sexual or even relational in nature.

2.) Killers make for poor 'representation'. I use quotations because I do not believe any sane individual would want to throw their lot in with someone like the Clown, nor should they ever. Killers are morally devoid and incredibly dangerous individuals and should not, in the least, be sought as a form of representation - as it is of ill conceived direction. You don't want to, for instance, make a particular killer neurodivergent - because then it has the added correlation of autism = evil killer person... which is NEVER what any developer of the game will want to portray. While such factors like ethnicity and gender are implicit in presentation - factors such as sexuality and so on do not need to be disclosed, which makes the effort of such inclusion all the more deleterious towards desired progress.

3.) Survivors make for great representation because they have outstanding qualities and are comprised of fantastic moral fiber. David King is a selfless and hardy man who uses his strength and incredible fortitude to help those that are weaker than him. He is strong, selfless, and daring. He is a hero. Having him represent a minority group is a good choice, as many survivors are. He has relationships and interacts with others regularly. Survivors, in this sense, are good examples of what representation could be - not that it SHOULD be - but the novelty stays nonetheless. Killers, however, are abusive, ill willed, selfish, destructive, and horrifying abominations comprised of once-human remnants twisted into machines of evil by the Entity. While survivors may enjoy the liberty of representing community subgroups, I do not believe Killers should be perceived with the same leniency.

4.) Dude... why everything gotta be sexual? C'mon man. Lets have a normal, non-sexual game about thrillers and chases.

revealing the sexual orientation or identity doesn’t directly sexualize a character. It’s part of their identity, probably related to some experiences/struggles or meaningful relationships in peoples/characters lives.

We have several killers with heterosexual relationships and thus it actually would be just fair (in sense of equal treatment) to have others who are LGBTQ+. Of course for some killers it wouldn’t make sense and would be out of character to have them had a meaningful relationship, but most killers actually have a ‚snapping‘ point in their life, until which they lived a normal life. Hag, Nurse, Wraith, Spirit for example would actually make good representation (Nurse even has a husband she dearly loved). And we are just talking about tome story’s that are taking mostly part in their previous lives.

I agree that David is a great kind of representation especially for their first LGBTQ+ character, as this is a sensitive topic and they did kinda exclude it from their game up until this point.

People would be saying the same thing if we never knew any sexuality then they come out with "Our first official straight character!". It's about as useful as a white crayon in a game like DBD and shouldn't have time spent on should we make this character no one cares about this sexuality or this character no one cares about this sexuality. There is no need for it and it's just wasted time.

Some people would be saying the same. But… actually no. Almost no one said anything against any of the heterosexual relationships already mentioned. And confirming a character straight or only writing heterosexual relationships for that character kinda have the same result.

Its only time and resources spent that would otherwise be spent on lore anyways. Nothing gets lost here or is wasted. And if people actually have a problem with the devs spending time/effort/money/resources on lore then… don’t start complaining about it only when it’s about LGBTQ+ topics. Lore was part of the game from the very beginning and the devs didn’t hide the fact they are investing more and more into lore with background stories getting longer, tomes existing etc.

Memorial would work in context but, like,

that's an O at the start.

I pulled up a cursive alphabet and comparing side by side it looks more like Ottomariar than Ottermarial but I'm also illiterate in cursive and my actual handwriting looks awful so I can't compare

    I guess it's a family name?

Oh yeah I definitely see the O, it’s just at first glance I saw an M because that double t looks a bit off and I thought the O was just flourish (hope that’s the right word for it that google gave me)

Oh. I didn't know that. I thought her father became the oni.

Maybe I should read the lore more.

Oni is an ancestor of Rin and her father but it’s over several generations. There was speculation going on that another Yamaoka or maybe even Rins father might become a new killer at some point!

Oh right!, yes that was indeed the topic.

Honestly though what's with all these people pooping on every thread and turning it into witch hunt. Seriously, this is why we can't have nice things.

Back to topic, we already got a male homosexual character, so for representation sake, I think it would be better to have female lesbian and I wouldn't mind it being a killer.

Nurse is taken, so that leaves adiris, Rin and bunny momma.

From the trio I would prefer Rin. Lots people already ship her with half the female survivors and it could be fitted into her lore that the real reason Kazan went to town on her was because he found out she was dating another woman and that his wife had become sterile after Rin, meaning his bloodline was disgraced and nearly extant, with his work problems being merely the drop that spilled the glass.

Just my take, would love to read others

I would like a story like that about Rin and her father. Makes sense and builds on the already established lore!

(one minor nitpick: Kazan is not the father of Spirit, I don’t think her father is mentioned directly by name but Kazan is the Oni)

  • It’s part of the current tome story and can’t be fully read in-game as it’s locked partly behind future challenges.

i guess you can find YouTube videos on this topic though

Or...he can just stab people? I really don't think killers care about sexuality, they just feel anger, and will kill anyone who gets in the way

Some killers remain more human than others.

also we are mostly talking about the backstorys for characters anyway before the characters got corrupted by the Entity or being trapped in the fog..

  • lol sorry for derailing the thread. But i just can’t stand those ‚I am not homophobic but let me make homophobic statements and don’t you dare label me‘ crowd.

Deathslinger would at least not be your stereotypical gay villain so I guess if part of his future tome story’s reveal him as gay then it wouldn’t feel harmful. But they should definitely make it the way they did for David and tell a story that makes sense without just slapping on a label

  • @Dwight_Fairfield said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2945230#Comment_2945230

I can't wrap my head around suspecting someone's sexuality based on dress sense being homophobic unless said person was doing it in a derogatory way because that's what homophobia is. A dislike of gay people.

Words and looks hurting someone I can understand if it's harsh or insensitive words or some kind of nasty or mocking look. But here I don't think anyone has used any harsh words. Unless I have missed an insensitive post somewhere.

If someone was just naturally offended by someone making a judgement based on their dress sense I can understand that too. But again nobody here is doing that. Nobody has judged Trickster as gay. We're just speculating. This whole thread is speculation. Only an ignorant person defines people based on appearance alone.

The thing is… it is already insensitive to speculate on a persons sexuality based on their clothing/fashion choice. And especially in Tricksters case who is a KPop star. Of course it seems silly if you only think about the Trickster as he is a fictional character and doesn’t have feelings. But you are kinda making assumptions/speculations on real people who dress similar as well.

instead of basing the sexuality on their choice of clothes maybe use their actual backstory/relationships or say what sexuality you would like them to have to make a good representation and not just to conform to stereotypes present.

Trickster may be gay or not. We don’t know that. We do know that he isn’t gay just because he is a flamboyant KPop star.

  • @Dwight_Fairfield said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2945193#Comment_2945193

Yes it is. But I am not assuming he's gay. I said suspect he might be. I'm not definitively labeling him in my mind as gay because of it.

I haven't seen anyone here do that.

I am not calling you out on this as you really seem to not do this with malicious intend at all.

but just suspecting someone’s sexuality based on their clothes can actually be homophobic and make it uncomfortable for the person being suspected. I think I can’t explain it very good but… just words or looks based on such a suspicion can hurt and it’s pretty much falsely generalizing even if it might be true in many cases.

  • No, since you don’t actually directly compete against other killers in a match. The difference for survivors isn’t really big and it really doesn’t matter as much if you are playing against survivors that are on M&K or controller.

this should be something that would automatically be dealt with by SBMM (you know.. if that matchmaking actually worked based on skill and not based on escapes/kills)

  • @Dwight_Fairfield said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2945150#Comment_2945150

First off I never said it was natural to assume. Second to suspect based on dress sense doesn't make it homophobic. Homophobic means you have a prejudice or dislike against gay people.

What kind of backward logic you are using to connect a suspicion based on dress sense to disliking gay people I don't know. If anything you're just projecting your own biases here.

Isn’t it a predjudice if you assume someone is gay just based on what clothes they were etc?

i mean, it obviously isn’t on the same level as direct hatred or aversion but still..

Never read the lore, never will

Its not an rpg or a stoey focused game, in which, sexual orientation can matter at some point.

It does not in dbd. If it was subtle in the lore and nobody talk about it i wouldnt care less if they were all lgbt

People talking about it non stop, thats what upset me. If people made topic lile "is feng is in love with bill?" I would have the exact same answer

The lore was there from the very beginning and the creators and part of the community clearly care about it.

so if you actually don’t care, then act accordingly. Let other people talk about what they want. It isn’t hard at all. Try it.

Read the lore. It being slapped on as a label is only really valid criticism if you view that Tweet on its own but the tome story really makes it a great form of representation (well of course subjective but it still isn’t fair to call that story being slapped on)

Oh right here we are, the homo0hobia accusation

Every time, it leads to that because straight people are evil and not wanting to know who's banging who in their free time makes us some kind of monsters

Lets make all characters in this game gay, it wont matter, but there will still be no point and be a freaking useless loss of ressources and time, as is this discussion.

I mean.. have you ever said anything against heterosexual relationships in the lore and how much you don’t care about it? Or are you just making these statements when it’s related to LGBTQ+ characters?

It’s not about straight people being evil (lol) it’s about people like you who act homophobic (even if it might not even be intentional)

  • There are others reporting the same behavior here, maybe there is also a thread were someone figured out a solution? Idk, but i would suggest looking there, maybe if you can provide the log file after a crash or something?

Yes. And you can pretend people like me don't exist if you want too. I certainly won't be mad at you for doing so or demand that you accept me for who I am. You say its not a monumental thing for a person to conform to support LGBT. Thats not true. It depends on what the person believes and how strong their convictions are. No one should be expected to support anything. That is always a choice. Should a Christian be expected to spit in the face of Jesus to satisfy someone who thinks or believes differently than them? This is why I keep saying there is always going to be problems when companies start doing things like "representation matters." DBD consists of more people than just the LGBT community. People of all walks of life play this game. Do they deserve to be represented?

Don’t use a religion as an excuse to be against LGBTQ+ inclusion. That is disgusting.

And? Her being lesbian or some other non-heterosexual sexuality doesn’t prevent being attracted to her. That’s not a reason. A video game character in a game that doesn’t even reference the player through character-to-player dialogue isn’t going to like the player regardless.

To be fair, it’s completely understandable to hope/want a specific character to be revealed to have a specific sexuality or stay vague. Just because LGBTQ+ representation is important and needed doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be any heterosexual representation or that every char should get their sexuality revealed.

    Hard Agree

The reason why multiples of the same survivor is allowed in game is because the canon is there's multiple versions of that same survivor.

Nothing changed about that though 🤷‍♂️

  • This was said about many chapter before already.

it may make or break the game for you but in general i don’t think a single chapter has this power and its more like the general direction of the game over several updates.

edit: wait you are talking about the stream and not the chapter. Well. Keep in mind they still won’t announce all actual changes in the anniversary stream that will actually come during next year!

  • There were spots where survivors were untouchable by the killer at all.

first they only disabled the offering but then decided it’s better to completely disable the map

  • Game devs don’t need to play their own game on high skill level/for many hours outside of their work (where it’s mostly functional playtests if at all)

they still have big data, community feedback, and especially nowadays streamers/fog whisperers to get to know problems in the game as well as common sense in game design (which should have prevented CoH and that Boil over change to even get tested like that in their PTBs…)

"With a situation like David, after all the years of the game, cosmetics, jokes in the community, headcanons people have been building over the years, it starts to feel like it was decided for the player."

It sure does. I'm glad you made this point because I do think this is how a lot of people feel about it. It really couldn't have been said clearer than that. This is why I say leaving areas like a character's sexuality alone and letting the player create their own narrative about the characters is always the best approach, and most inclusive. Of course someone will come along and call me a bigot because they think bigots don't deserve any kind of inclusiveness. Well, that is an opinion and being inclusive means including the people, ideas and beliefs of those you disagree with. We live in a diverse world. Diversities of faiths, cultures, perspectives, philosophies and so on. No 2 people think alike. The inclusiveness of one thing will always lead to the exclusion of something else and no one should have to conform their convictions to please something or someone that excludes them. So in my opinion if DBD insists on continuing with this representation approach then I hope over time there is something for everyone to relate to or be represented by added to the game. If it does happen then of course not everyone will agree or like everything but the point would be that it wasn't all just about one or two things. It would be about having something for everyone to relate to.

So in my opinion if DBD insists on continuing with this representation approach then I hope over time there is something for everyone to relate to or be represented by added to the game.

what kind of representation do you think is currently excluded and missing?

I didn’t imply it. You are making this about you right now, not me.

and I have said to plenty of people it’s okay to have negative feelings about this and express them. As long as they are not rooted in homophobia. Which in some cases wasn’t really clear as some made either indirect homophobic statements or used complete irrelevant ‚arguments‘.

I already typed not to make up my opinions on anything from my post. I have absolutely no issue with "being against these kind of additions" nor have I ever insinuated I did.

I never accused you personally at all.

My stance is not against David being gay, just not in favor of it.

Then say so instead of trying to talk the writers down. I wouldn’t have questioned your motives if you just said it like in this comment..

you really don’t have to like David being gay.

but saying it didn’t take effort or it’s bad because David was probably not created as gay is just not really working as arguments against it as there is no way of proving or disproving it.
