This feels like an attempt to distort the definition to what people want it to mean nowadays, the actual definition specifically references arguments made "in bad faith" AKA trolling, making arguments you don't truly stand by, etc.

You can technically make any kind of stance and if you genuinely believe in what you're saying, even if it's garbage, it's not bad faith.

I am like 99.9 % sure Smuk very much knows flower isn’t a sexuality or part of the LGBTQ+ community and they intentionally put random words there which really doesn’t help making any point other than being disrespectful.

Hello. I am happy that you found out who you are. <3 I found out when i were between 12-15 year old that i am not so called "normal" person. I've autistic (autism) and also felt that i were different and i notice that i also were into same gender as i am. (I'm gay).

However I am more fashion guy when it comes to characters outfits and it comes when i play DbD every day since i bought game and all dlc some months ago. (sadly; i missed The Stranger Things DLC because of late joining).

I play mostly with Meg, Kate and a few girl characters on survivor but i uses pride flags. best idea ever to put them in game. I play them mostly because as i mention above i love fashion and those survivors outfits suits me and my wardrobe. I wish however it existed some nice leather pants to someone. :)

OP: Thanks a lot for your post. It make me very happy and i support this to over 100 %. Wish you a happy life and find your partner one day.

very wholesome to read and I think it’s great that you as a guy can play girl characters because they resonate more with you because of similar styles!

i really think BHVR are doing a great job in representing many different kind of people - even though there might not always be one perfect fit like in the case with OP and David.

btw i thought Kate has a pair of black leather pants, doesn’t she?

I will agree it was unnecessary but I also think its a little too far to assume it was bad faith. Something being unnecessary doesn't mean it has any bigotry behind it. They made their point and we can agree or disagree with it and move on.

sorry but when someone is making an obvious bigoted comment like that I can assume bigotry behind it. If they actually didn’t mean it that way and just weren’t able to articulate themselves better because of language barrier then fair enough - they are free to state so and apologize.

this was more than unnecessary. GoodBoyKaru has told you how it was lacking basic respect in a very clear and objective way.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951478#Comment_2951478

Unnecessary? Yea. But to accuse someone of bad faith because you don't like the way they stated their opinion and view on this is also unnecessary.

Oh come on, it is crossing a line to talk about the LGBTQ+ Community like that and if it really wasn’t intentional to be in bad faith by Smuk then they can very much say so and apologize for it.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951454#Comment_2951454

They were making a point, a point that required a little discernment to understand. It wasn't a bad faith take. It was their opinion.

They could have easily made the point without making up those words. That was completely unnecessary.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951447#Comment_2951447

Yea if you see a clip of it happening on a stream its going to resonate more than say someone playing the game for over 2000 hours and never seeing it happen at all, like me. Also I don't understand what you mean when you said the cosmetic had darker skin making it black face. Which one are you referring to? Claudette's? Well she is black right? I don't see how a fictional character who wears the face of his victims is doing "black face" by wearing the face of one of his victims. This seems a bit unreasonable to me.

I am talking about Bubbas skin underneath the Claudette mask. It was darker for Claudette’s cosmetic compared to his other cosmetics, thus making it unintentionally Black Face.

as to why you don’t notice it: are you a person of color and was this always apparent for your opponents? If not then of course you won’t notice it often. We are talking about streamers that had to endure this in their streams.

  • @Brokenbones said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951447#Comment_2951447

So do you think BHVR is racist for creating the cosmetic and keeping it in the game for such a long time then? Genuine question

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951456#Comment_2951456

Bubba might be a fictional character but the actions of the people playing him aren't. That's the whole point, if all Bubbas were NPCs then I don't think people would have been impacted the way they were.

No I don’t think so. I think it was just an unintentional mistake/bug for the texture to be missing and it probably wasn’t even noticed by the devs/license holders. It got approved, added to the game and that’s it. After that they needed when it actually got reported and brought to the devs attention, I think it was not_queen who said in a stream that they need to fix this but they were not able to without approval by the license holder

  • @AMOGUS said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951447#Comment_2951447

Something I don't understand regarding this: One has to be playing Bubba in order to be wearing the Claudette face, they removed Killer switching years ago.

So... are people trying to say that racists would play Bubba with the intent to streamsnipe? Or lobbydodge until they got a black/POC streamer?

I guess many people already played Bubba regardless, especially people like this just because of the facecamp potential and to make it as unfun for their opponents as possible. Those people are probably not just racists but bigots in general and found a great opportunity to make it even worse for PoC that were streaming.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2950954#Comment_2950954

I think this is their opinion and not a "bad faith" take. We can disagree with each other but everyone has to be allowed to speak their mind and not have their comments removed because you think its a bad faith comment or simply don't like what they said.

making up words to talk the LGBTQ+ community down isn’t „their opinion“ but is actually a „bad faith“ take. And that’s what the comment directly refers to.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2951135#Comment_2951135

And the masks were also not being used as a tool to harass players also. You have to understand why a lot of people didn't like them removing these cosmetics. The masks were not intrinsically offensive. They were a cosmetic made for a killer who wears the face of his victims. I rarely if ever even saw a cannibal player use these cosmetics to begin with. I can't imagine it was happening so much that they felt the need to remove them.

Except that the cosmetic actually had darker skin (due to missing textures) under the mask, thus actually making it Black Face and therefore was problematic and at least needed fixing. BHVR and the license holder obviously decided it was best to remove the cosmetics.

and it happened often enough to be a problem. several streamers reported this and, you know, having it literally in live streams happening…

  • It’s sadly not up to BHVR but it’s very likely that the license holders don’t want their characters to get other cosmetics.

As I said before the problem isn't the representation of LGBTQ, but the fact that their priorities are clearly focused on this matter rather than the game's health, and this is A UNDENIABLE Fact... my reports never answered, the bugs not fixed (hello there giant blob in midwich for example) and the last matches that I did speak for themselves

It really isn’t that big of a focus when it’s only one tweet among hundreds. It’s clearly parts of the community that currently focuses on the representation and really nothing else.

reports and bugs werent fixed quickly before and won’t miraculously get fixed faster with or without lore having some representation.

representing LBGTQIA and pan, flower, binary, hex, dec and which ever else sexuality exists was the least important thing to implement.

With the dignity, they could have put it on the side, and introduce with the changelog that evolves around fixes that bring you a smile.

tldr; not everything that was in development branch, has to be merged into the main branch. Especially not in a such case.

    What are you talking about?

there wasn’t actual coding happening, you realize that, right? It is literally just text. Which would have been included anyway with any tome story. And the people writing these stories are never working on actual game mechanics and code… like… ???

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2950766#Comment_2950766

Exactly this, wont see any comments on "when is this happening" "why wont you address this"

It's "here's a picture of my cat" DEV,MOD,BHVR then posts.

Devs are -if at all- using the forums in their free time and are not supposed to comment on game decisions or community feedback (except for those devs that are working as community coordinator/manager or similar.. and Mandy and Peanits are actually giving many insightful comments). Also if there are important announcements, in most cases it wouldn’t make sense to announce those in a random forum thread. Those will get addressed in dev updates, and they have adressed many topics that the community wants answers to (SBMM tests and feedback in January dev update, most of the killer and perk changes, even direct community feedback like Boil Over and CoH changes).

Mods are literally here to moderate and are not even directly working for BHVR at all.. I don’t know what you are expecting from them??

  • Oh. Uhm. I wouldnt get my hopes up if I were you.

  • @fake said:

I have heard several people's opinions.

In fact, you can find out in the character descriptions and archives that characters other than David are either homosexual or heterosexual.

What I found disturbing was the loud and high-handed announcement that "this character is actually homosexual" while making a dedicated news story. Unlike the other characters.

Of course I understand that this archive will talk about David King's character background. But the difference is that the news article was purposely created solely for this character's sexual preference.

I see this as having been unnecessary.

Diversity means a society where all kinds of ideas, tastes, etc. are universally accepted without saying a word.

Yet, David King was created for a separate news article.

    “He is gay.”

It seems to me that they really wanted to make the appeal, "We at BHVR are a socially and not racially discriminatory company” that created a gay character.

That announcement was mostly a follow up to the announcement almost two years ago and the collaboration with GaymerX. For the sexuality/sexual/romantic relationship of other characters already present (which are all heterosexual), an announcement wasn’t needed because they were never excluded from the game beforehand and people don’t start to search for whatever the devs did wrong when those were added.

even if there wasn’t an announcement (which was just a tweet among hundreds and one blog entry that you can just ignore) people would still have complained about this inclusion. Eg „they tried to make it as silent as possible because they don’t actually care and just threw it in to appease the woke community“. It was a lose-lose situation really.

Why would you bring the representation topic up? That has literally nothing to do with it. On the one hand you have people that write the lore and work on fitting cosmetics for tome story’s etc on the other hand game designers, programmers etc that would actually have something to do with in-game mechanics like flashlights and how they work…

i can guarantee you that NOT having representation/BHVR working on inclusion at all would have changed nothing about the state of flashlight macros or general photosensitivity issues.

  • There are also Twins challenges that only require their perks and I am pretty sure there will be challenges that require you to play David in the upcoming levels.

    "Successful"

Meg is a hothead prone to delinquency

Claudette struggles with fitting in socially and while not explicitly stated possibly could be autistic

I'm pretty sure Nea killed a guy

Feng is incapable of any function that isn't gaming

Kate, Jane, Yui are successful to different extents but have had their own struggles

Yun-Jin's success is based on promoting a serial killer that she has to pretend she's not on the verge of figuring out.

Mikaela has zero clue what she's doing with her life.

Zarina is basically smeared by the media every chance they get and gets none of the credit she deserves.

I'm not sure what people are on about with every female survivor being the same tbh.

i meant the newer survs, definitely didn’t include Claudette, Meg or Nea with successful. They were more everyday-people for sure.

Feng seems to be very successful as a pro gamer and pretty famous.

Yun-Jin was super successful before any of the murders happened. Though i do definitely like her backstory for having a different take.

Mikaela, sure, may not be conventionally successful but her stories and readings seem to mean a lot to her and are making her kinda locally famous?

Zarina seems to still be pretty successful as a reporter as far as i remember. Also in her personal life she overcame so much and made it.

also. I guess half of them (including the original ones here) have those side-cut, cool, flashy/colorful hair cosmetics (that’s what I meant with styles)

I don't really know what you mean, the majority of survivors being there own style. Mikaela is very unique, so is Yui, Jane, Zarina, Elodie. Ect.

all of them are young, attractive, successful. Almost all of them are skinny/very fit with exception of Jane.

they are doing a great Job in diversity when it comes to nationalities/ethnicities but other than that.. body types and age as well as styles (well that one is debatable)

If everybody that wanted to criticize simply left, there's just be an echo chamber, now, wouldn't there? As much as I criticize the game and the devs, I just really want it to succeed. I enjoy the premise of the game, though the execution and implementation of ideas is handled poorly.

Yes. The same devs who can't 'fix' an issue without creating another. Midwich, as the most recent example. RPD is a big one. Haddonfield. Boil Over. Twins. Heck, even Huntress can fall into that. They are prone to reflex fixes. Furthermore, you had a dev actively criticize players for broaching color blind mode. If you have one dev 'working' on it, while another denying it, doesn't that create a discord? Granted, not every dev has to know what everybody else is working on, but you'd at least expect them to be on the same page. Which falls back to the lack of communication done, both between the devs/playerbase, and apparently internally as well.

Now, if Mandy really was working, or testing, said mode well before the whole blow up, then I'll retract my claim that it was rushed. I didn't know, as I don't actively follow the devs when they stream. However, for them to make anything official, or at least public knowledge, only AFTER the problems arose, that's where my claim of them being disingenuous stems from.

Which comes back to my point about OP's topic. Even if a fix is in the works for a game component that could cause a health issue, the amount of time needed to actually bring that fix to the game just screams insincere, at least to me personally. If something IS on the drawing board, let the community know.

And for something like macros, it shouldn't be that difficult to bring a fix to it. It's not like they have to create something like the color blind mode for this.

If everybody that wanted to criticize simply left, there's just be an echo chamber, now, wouldn't there?

never said you should leave when you criticize them. Actually i said the complete opposite. You should criticize them - but only if it has some reasonable basis (as your comment actually shows you are capable of)

Mandy confirmed they were working on it way before after if was released. Almo probably wasn’t really allowed to talk about it in his private stream as nothing was officially announced.

i do agree they should have fixed flashlight macros or at least should have acknowledged the issue and assured they are working on a fix. And that years ago.

Well yes of course. But sometimes you just gotta give up on games.

Why would they give up on a game that many people still enjoy playing just because some people can’t just stop when they don’t have a great time?

  • Well. The community already reacts angry when there is a midchapter which focuses on game health instead of new content. Also an Operation Health chapter would probably not bring more game health than your usual chapter as the resources can’t be increased for just one chapter.. it would just end up to be less work for the staff that usually does the new content. also one chapter focusing on game health wouldn’t do anything in the long run at all. And completely rewriting the code of the game would take years.

  • @Rivyn said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2948151#Comment_2948151

Actions speak louder than words, though. You can't let issues stew for years, a problem arises, and suddenly claim 'we've been working on this.' Whether or not they 'may' have been doing something, the fact that it took five years for anything to come of it, and only AFTER the community takes offense, is disingenuous.

Eh. If actions speak louder than words, why do you still criticize them on the forums when you could stop supporting them?

you don’t actually believe that they implemented a functioning colorblind mode with settings in menu, UI, different kinds of colorblindness etc just in some few weeks? We are speaking about the same devs, right?

and I have said you can criticize them for being too slow on this, not communicating more with us on these kinds of issues etc. That’s all valid feedback and criticism. It’s just really dumb to make up something in your head and then act like that’s what must have really happened (despite simple logic telling you otherwise) and spread this misinformation instead of criticizing them for what they actually did wrong/bad.

Unfortunately, the devs do not care about this, as it won't bring in revenue. Look at the whole color blind fiasco. The only reason something was done was due to backlash against a dev.

Though I could have sworn macros were against TOS a few years back. . .

The devs do care. They are just working for a company that may not care enough to make it higher priority and they are generally slow for literally anything.

the color blind settings were NOT added because of the backlash or that stream fiasco. We know first hands from Mandy - who is part of the dev team - that they worked on this already long time before this and she herself is colorblind and has tested the functionality before this whole fiasco.

The idea is that it encourages community engagement while also benefit BHVR financially with Amazon’s prime gaming deal.

There are soooooo many amazing and beautiful community submission cosmetic ideas that the possibility of using more than just TWO (1 survivor/1 killer) a year is a lot more interesting.

I do agree with you and would love to see more community outfits. I just don’t think Prime should be used for it and the devs have other options to add those if they wanted/were able to

Edit: ok so all I’m finding immediately is that they said “most” of the cosmetics would be coming to the shop within 6-12 months of the relevant rift closing. Charms would remain exclusive. However, I don’t believe any of the single pieces have ever been added and I swear there was confirmation it would stay that way. Maybe I’m just remembering wrong.

Here’s the stream where they talked about stuff coming back.

    https://youtu.be/dmFyEKu2CWc

It starts at 32:55 and end somewhere around 33:15

    Thanks for looking it up!

thats what I remembered as well, but I do think they have talked about single piece rift cosmetics somewhere as well as you said, but I don’t know where that would have been.

  • I have several killer concepts but I still do like my darkness based killer a lot. I used Charlie from don’t starve but I guess an original with such a power would do too ;)

    @Mooks said:

This is a Suggestion for a licensed killer from the survival game Don’t Starve Together by Klei:

Charlie, also known as The Darkness

She is a main antagonist of the game and is the one killing you in the darkness, its why you need some source of light, no other protection or way to fight back is given to the survivors in this game, even though they have weapons against monsters and such.

    Ability:

With her terror-radius, it‘s darker for the survivors, making it harder to see the killer (who is pretty much all black) and obstacles etc. You don’t see the darkness coming and the killer sees everything in normal lighting.

Charlie can make the whole map dark for a while (this will have a cool-down of course). During this she takes the form of Shadow-Charlie in which she is significantly faster. In this darkness she can only attack survivors that are not near a lightsource. Those are the firebarrels and a new item, a torch. The torch can be obtained only during the match at special stations (like plaques fountains or pigs jigsaw boxes). A torch stays lit for a duration of one darkness cycle and can’t be taken with you out of a game. You can’t hold another item with the torch though. (You can also stay hidden or near a barrel for protection if you don’t want to leave your item somewhere).

EDIT: The torch will function like Nemesis' vaccines and Pinheads box (both introduced after i made this concept); additionally i made a concept of a new survivor item (Lighter) which will protect the surv as well if he uses it (losing charges while using it)

In the shadow-form, Charlie can be attacked with a flashlight, similar to the burn of Wraith and Nurse you don’t need to shine into the face, but shine at her for a small duration of time. This can end the darkness-cycle sooner but is also risky because you can not have a torch equipped and Charlie is very fast in this mode.

    Weapon: Shadow Hand

Can be used as a normal Weapon or as a long-range weapon. When activated as for long-range, Charlie stays in place and the hand moves forward, attacking a survivor or missing the hit will lead to going back to the killer. While using the long-range-mode, the hand moves with a smaller hitbox and thus moves faster around obstacles and through vaults. Survivors can also cancel this mode by running through the „arm“ of the shadow hand, the connection between killer and the hand.

I haven’t thought about perks yet, maybe I will add them later or you can discuss which perks you want to see for Charlie or general from Don’t starve for killers and survivors.

For a chapter, a survivor can be added as well. Easiest choice would be Wilson, enough skin potential is there from the skins in the game. Other characters wouldn’t make much sense because of the special traits and perks, maybe Winona? I would like to see Wickerbottom but the Insomnia would make no sense going against Freddy I guess!

So let me know what you think about my Charlie idea and discuss possible perks!

edit: The second power of my killer was meant to be somewhat like what shortly came after with the Deathslinger: pulling the survivor to you and other survivors are able to help, i guess its different enough though to still be possible as an ability in the future of DbD

my other concepts (Feedback and suggestions always welcome):

Killers: The Ice Queen, Hannibal, Charlie(The Darkness), The Blair Witch, The Firebreather, The Photographer

Survivors: Aria Morrison, Lukas Schmidt, Paitoon Saeli

Survivor Items: Walkie Talkies, Lighter, Water Bottle, Pocket Knife, Sling Shot, Spray Paint Cans, Salt Pouch, Smoke Bomb, Voodoo Doll, Smudge Sticks

Game mechanics: Expanded survivor objectives, Exhaustion Rework, Spiderwebs

As far as we know, the single items will never come to the shop. This was in a dev stream some time ago

Do you happen to know which stream? I have looked into the Q&A summaries and haven’t found anything on that. (Maybe i have overlooked one of the threads though..)

  • There hasn’t been an official statement about them. We only know that charms are supposed to stay exclusive and most of the cosmetics are supposed to be added to the shop at least 6 months after the rift closes (but usually it takes longer). Nothing else was said afaik

Retroactive, he wasn't gay, they made him gay recently. They also talk about how they collabed to write it retroactively to make it sound natural, but he was literallt just stamped to be gay. Nothing wrong with him being gay, I just think inclusion can be handled better than "they like this character and have ship art so let's do this asap just to push content out." Sounds like they didn't have the care in mind so it's haphazardly done. I just want the lore and love to naturally be there. People shouldn't force people who aren't straight to be straight either, not a believer in conversion therapy to appease the masses. Be free to be who you are. A character with that in mind, would be an amazing character and I'd probably main someone like that regardless of orientation.

Just to be clear: every tome story and any details in there are kinda retroactively added to the characters - including Franks and Julies sexual relationship. That doesn’t mean that those details, traits etc were not in the minds of the creators before that. i don’t get why this is something only ever criticized when it’s about LGBTQ+? I would get it if there was proof that David was created with being heterosexual in mind… but there isn’t any proof for that either?

Part of the issue with david king, is that in the q and a, they admitted it's done for speed, to make a character lgbtq as fast as possible plus the fan art. For everyone who says, wow, you don't know if they imagined him to be gay. No, they added that literally with the utmost speed to hurry in an lgbtq character onto someone who had a girlfriend before because there was a lot of shipping and fan demand. This is clearly community appeasement. They literally hit all the check boxes of that in the q&a. Nothing wrong with having and lgbtq character in here, it's just exceedingly clear that even according to them, this was something done really fast to put in an lgbtq character as soon as possible. For those who think I'm crazy, or wrong that this was thoughtfully done, can check out it out.

It’s literally stated the reveal was decided on for speed, not the decision that David was gay. And no where is there confirmed it was done because of community fan art or anything.

also, even though they said it was because of speed, it still took almost 2 years since their promise and many people already have criticized them for announcing it and then not delivering.

  • I don’t think that’s a good idea. Having the skins available in the free tracks of the rift is better so more people actually have the ability to get them. If they wanted to include more they could just add them in all rifts instead of only one time per year.
