  • Dude, you seem to whine about almost everything. Learn the game instead of calling for nerfs to everything that's mildly inconvenient. You don't see me whining about pallet stuns or window vaults.

  • People DC against the Doctor because he's annoying to them, or because they don't know how to beat him. I've played the Doctor extensively; he's far from broken.

Yes, he can find survivors by making them scream, but finding a survivor is only the first step; you have to down them if you want to win, and the Doctor really isn't that good at it.

You can't regress to tier 1 once you've reached tier 2, but most of the effects from tier 2 can be safely ignored by experienced survivors.

Shock Therapy slows the Doctor when he uses it (Meaning he often won't be able to close the distance in time to land a hit), and there are a number of ways to avoid the shock entirely in a chase.

Skill checks are easily nullified if you're an experienced survivor, regardless of where they appear on the screen. If you really hate skill checks that much, just play Killer.

If you really want to beat the Doctor, don't bother trying to hide against him. Just pressure the generators, waste his time with long chases, and don't panic when you hit Madness 2 or 3.

  • @Almo Personally, I have two gripes with the Legion. I hate that if you miss a swing while in FF, you immediately lose the whole duration and go on cooldown.

It feels way too punishing to me; missing a single swing at the wrong time can mean the difference between injuring 2-3 survivors and inflicting Deep Wounds on all of them, or injuring zero survivors while losing a lot of ground against the survivor you were just chasing.

Also, I have to ask: Why do add-ons like Smiley Face Pin exist? They encourage you to play Legion badly. You have to chase down the survivor you just hit (Even though their Deep Wounds timer won't tick down unless you break off the chase), AND you have to waste the entire duration of your FF to get a second hit on the injured survivor. All that, just to apply the Blindness effect for 1 minute.

Please rework add-ons like Smiley Face Pin to be useful, and please make it so missing an attack doesn't cost you the entire duration of FF.

  • Here, OP, this video should help you:

    https://youtu.be/TiQakFszpXA

  • Well, I don't know for certain. It's possible that the survivors spawned further away from you, but inadvertently moved closer to you while they were looking for a generator.

  • @Yamaoka said:

This reminds me of a poll I posted ages ago. I asked as much as:

"who is supposed to win if ALL clients (all survivors AND the killer) played perfectly with 100% perfect decisions and 100% same skills?"

Can't remember the result of the poll, though.

Well, ideally, it should be a 2k most of the time, with the survivors sometimes getting 3-4 escapes if the RNG favors them, and killer sometimes getting 3-4 kills if the RNG favors them.

  • Who would win?

A veteran with years of military training and combat experience

    Or

A teenager with a hunting knife

  • Yeah, it's funny how Ghostface's stealth mode essentially makes him a stronger version of the Wraith, even if you never use his Stalk. Just goes to show how bad Wraith's base kit really is.

I'd be cool with that. I did say the killer's skill check should be even harder than the one survivor made. Maybe they could make it appear between 1 o'clock and 3 o'clock on the check circle. That would be brutal!

I like this idea in theory, but in practice, one of the primary reasons I play killer is because there are no quick time events. So I can't support the idea of adding a QTE to Killer in any way, shape or form.

Im not planning to start arguement here. Did i say something false?

Well, you didn't say anything false, but I think the recharge time is fine as it is.

I have a problem with the fact that you lose the entire duration of the Frenzy if you miss a single swing, and the fact that a lot of his add-ons are completely useless.

  • Eh. You could justify the recharge time as a way to balance the power of Feral Frenzy, but I take issue with the fact that if you miss a single swing, you lose the entire duration of the power.

There doesn't seem to be any real reason why this has to happen. If BHVR is worried that Legions would just spam lunges when they're in a chase, they can always just increase the missed attack cooldown a little bit while in FF.

  • Chainsaw is quite difficult for both the Hillbilly and Leatherface to land. If you take away their insta-down, their powers would be next to worthless. When Hillbilly or Leatherface is charging his chainsaw, all you have to do is put a wall between you and them. There's a lot of situations where a Hillbilly/Leatherface could land a hit on you with an M1, but not with their chainsaw.

It's a slow, highly telegraphed move, and as soon as you hear the sound of a chainsaw or see the killer for the first time, you immediately know to watch out for it. Seems like it has plenty of counterplay to me.

@Monlyth well i play League for 6 years, Hearthstone for like 5 from other mainstream games CS GO (550h), Minecraft Kappa, HOTS a little bit, and watched some APEX

or maybe my mind is fully grown and i just ignore your "toxicity" (lets be honest the younger you are the more you react to that)

well taunt is a bait and its your choice if you eat that bait but its not toxic, toxic is post game chat where killer or survs are typing you to ... ekhem yourself

Well, in all of those games, I've seen people find ways to act like a douchebag, and then see people complain about such behaviors.

There's a fair number of things that frustrate me more than teabagging, but I frown upon it nonetheless. I don't like being teabagged, it seems like most other people don't like being teabagged, and if you don't like being teabagged (Or being camped/tunneled to death), then I think you should treat others the way you'd like to be treated.

  • Well, if they're pointing instead of running from me, then it's up on the hook they go. I give the person in the locker plenty of opportunity to leave, as I carry the griefer to his rightful place.

  • @Galklife said:

@Yamaoka you can ask in whatever game, in every game there is some sort of taunt towards other side but in little % of those games (tbh DBD is only 1 i know from that) that is took like toxic xd in League of legends you have showing 7th mastery/dab emotes (and some other) and noone is crying over that. I saw many montages from BRs(i dont play it) and there was a lot of ppl Tbagging on deathcam but noone was offended by it, in CS GO ppl were knifing you in back but as well noone ever cried about it

only in dbd ppl are actively looking for toxic things just to get things to feel offended by it

tbh taunting should encourage you to play better to beat your opponent not sit in corner and cry/go on reddit and cry

1 thing is losing and getting baited by taunts other is not doing anything to be better and shut taunter "im better than you, not because i facecamped you but because i caught you in 15sec next time we met" majority of players are playing this game on autopilot and dont even try to learn how to play better xd

so mind me explaining how dabing in other games after winning 1vs1 isnt toxic but Tbag in DBD is? how dab (which was made for taunt) isnt taking like toxic but twerking is?

edit because of typo (mongates btw xDD )

Where are you getting this idea that DBD is the only game where people complain about toxic behavior? I can't think of any multiplayer games I've played where nobody complains about player toxicity, unless it's something where you can't communicate with other players in any meaningful way.

Don't @ me if you have nothing good to say to me stay silent im Annoyed at a bug I don't need people like this Pony guy saying it isn't a big deal and it's because I was being Toxic when it very much is how would you like to play a game for 20 minutes then lose all your points it's not very nice. "If you have such a high dc rate compared to me, there must be a difference in how we behave." this is clearly an indirect insult first so step off buddy.

Why are you getting so defensive just because someone questioned your story?

If you have nothing to hide, why get your panties in a bunch over this? Why escalate the argument with insults and thinly-veiled threats? Just explain your perspective and leave it at that.

Listen are you even on ps4 first of all instead of accusing me of playing toxic which isn't the case. I'm at rank 6 all that happens is I loop and then exit the game no tbagging etc, don't precieve that you know how I play just because you haven't had the same experience. The reason you don't get dc's is probably because you terrible at the game see its not nice is it to think you know everything. There is several posts on the ps4 bug section dating back 2-3 weeks even that this exploit has been around some I'm sure if it was 1% there would not be so many people having this problem.

The fact that you immediately resort to insults when someone questions your story, makes me think that you're not as polite as you say you are.

You can belittle actions as much as you want. Tbagging the killer serves no other purpose but to trigger said killer which makes the action by my definition toxic regardless of wether it actually triggers said killer or not. Personally I don't mind tbaggers, flashlight clickers etc because I know I will win anyways but I knew several people who quit the game because of cheeky survivors who rub it in when/if they win. As a result there's only sweaty killers left in the game who will even camp/tunnel even if someone disconnects at 5 gens with Ruin up.

*Teabags low-tier killers at the exit gates*

*Proceeds to wonder why they only run into sweaty Nurse and Spirit mains*

@Peanits . Finally I gathered some footage to explain myself better. Please bare with me.

    https://youtu.be/GHL5UXnvJfI

In this one, I completely understand. I was late, he was close. Even fast vaults you can hit through windows. this is normal for me.

    https://youtu.be/bSMzyU9ZNVA

in this one, I am saying I wasn't that late for vaulting. And he hasn't even turned around yet. And because of the latency, the medium vault speed, and 0 momentum, killer has this huge hitbox before him. That feels bad.

    https://youtu.be/k3WQcH8wVFo

With this one I have general concerns about vaulting. When I started fast vaulting, he wasn't behind me, almost turned around, and he still managed to put me in the hit register cone in front of him. So it registers the hit. Even I hear the missed attack sound, and about to touch the ground, I get hit. That's why sometimes it feels like killers have 2 meters arm length, and why we experience pull backs after vault completed. If this was a window, I am sure we would see a pull back.

    https://youtu.be/euioh1hZZKM

I don't know what to say to this one. I am hoping it is a dedicated server thing for now and will be fixed later. If this is a normal hit, I have nothing more to say about the subject.

Bear in mind that lag compensation will usually favor the Killer (Because it would be unfair if you clearly hit the survivor on your screen, but the hit didn't register), and even a small amount of latency can cause a significant discrepancy.

There's often a big difference between where you are on your screen, where the server thinks you are, and where the Killer sees you on his screen. On the Killer's screen, you're usually much closer than you appear to be on your own screen, especially if there's any significant amount of latency.

Also, with knife-wielding killers like Ghostface, their hitbox is a little bigger than the animation, because the hitboxes need to be the same for every killer's basic attack, regardless of what the animations look like.

  • SWF allows survivors to have near-perfect information and coordination in a game where that's normally impossible, without having to waste any perk slots on perks like Bond or Empathy or Kindred.

SWF groups also frequently run full-meta builds, featuring insta-heals, flashlights, toolboxes, Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, Adrenaline and Dead Hard on Every. Single. Survivor.

From the Killer's perspective, a SWF group that knows what they're doing can easily turn a fun game into a frustrating chore. It's not exactly cheating, but it's not exactly playing fair, either.

Also, the Killer has little to no choice in whether they want to go up against a SWF group or not. The best they can do is dodge a lobby if they suspect the survivors are in a group, but they have no way to know for sure.

Wow 30 whole seconds because that's going to help. I do like the idea of him losing some stalk though like maybe 15% each time he hits and 100% if he marks.

Wasting 30 seconds of the killer's time is a pretty huge deal in a game where matches only last about 10 minutes, Generators take 80 seconds to complete, and you outnumber the Killer 4-to-1.

That's 30 seconds where all of your teammates are free to heal, do generators and unhook survivors, while the Killer essentially has no power for 30 seconds.

Litterally no character background or progression... shes the same character as she was when we first met her.... just more powerful and it makes 0 sense

Yeah, but I have to ask, "Why would a scavenger from some backwater planet care about the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance? Why would she willingly risk her life for a cause that has had nothing to do with her for most of her life? Why does she actively seek out Luke Skywalker for training?"

Luke can answer all of these questions: He cares about the conflict between the Rebellion and the Empire because the Empire killed his family, and all his friends had left to join the Rebels. Luke wants to become a Jedi because Luke admires his father and wants to be like him, and because someone he respects (Obi-Wan) told him to.

But Rey seems to do things for no real reason. She joins the Resistance for no apparent reason. She personally goes to find Luke for no apparent reason. She's determined to become a Jedi, for no apparent reason. She doesn't strike me as the type of character who would want to become a Jedi out of simple curiosity, and she doesn't strike me as idealistic enough to risk her life for the Resistance, especially considering that the worst thing the First Order ever did to her was imprison her and interrogate her for a brief moment before she escaped.

If every random scavenger that escaped from a First Order prison decided to join the Resistance, then the Resistance should be overflowing with recruits.

  • You know, after watching both The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens, it occurs to me that we still know almost nothing about MaRey Sue's motivations or goals.

Why does Rey fight for the Resistance? Why does she want to become a Jedi? The best answer I've come up with is "Because the plot needs her to".

What is Rey's goal? What does she hope to accomplish in life? As far as I can tell, the closest thing she has to a goal is "Helping the Resistance and becoming a Jedi seems cool, I guess".

Say what you will about the prequels, but at least Anakin has an actual motivation for turning to the dark side, and an actual goal to pursue in Revenge of the Sith.

Agreed. Rogue One is the only good Star Wars movie that Disney has put out. The rest just feel like a cynical cash grab with forced politics, awful plotting and terrible characterization.

Nurse’s plan is to try and blink on top of you. If you are going to attempt to turn back, she has to guess ahead of time and charge accordingly. If you break LOS her plan is to blink to the corner she last saw you. From there her options are more limited: her second blink is short ranged and in many situations, she can’t reach you if you simply move forward. From there the mindgame turns to, will you run forward or continue to turn and put objects between the two of you.

Okay. So the Nurse learns to guess ahead of time and predict where the survivors will go. So the survivors can't reliably juke her or fake her out anymore. Now they're screwed.

It's really that simple; she lacks counterplay. No matter how good you are as a survivor, the Nurse will almost always land a hit if she's good enough. And this is coming from a Killer main, mind you.

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/783207#Comment_783207

This is factually false and shows that you either don’t play Nurse or don’t understand how she works. You probably shouldn’t be giving balance opinions.

If I'm wrong, then prove me wrong. Saying "You're wrong, you know nothing, you shouldn't be giving balance opinions" is little more than a playground insult. I could say the same thing about you, and it would just be your word against mine.

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/782994#Comment_782994

This is the generic argument that people spew without any explanation. If you know anything about the Nurse, you know that base Nurse has to constantly guess and outplay the survivors, but omega blink Nurse severely reduces the survivor’s options. Base nurse was perfectly fine.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/782997#Comment_782997

I think the OP should have clarified that Nurse is not broken. She is definitely strong, but base Nurse is NOWHERE near broken.

No, base nurse was not fine. If you master her, the survivors are screwed. No two ways about it.

A lot of people seem to have the narrow-minded view that if something takes skill, then it's allowed to be overpowered. That's how we end up with metas like the current Killer meta, where Nurse and Spirit are pretty much the only killers you see at red ranks. It makes the game boring and stale for anyone who truly masters it.

The game should be more fun, more varied and have more depth as you get better at it. It should never be restricted to a meta where everyone plays exactly the same way.

  • I'll be honest, we might need to just completely overhaul the main objective. The consensus seems to be that generators are really, really boring for the survivors.

What I'd like to see is an objective along the line of Deathgarden: Bloodharvest. You collect an item at one location, then deposit it at a different location to make progress on the objective.

To encourage interaction with the killer, maybe instead of telling the Killer where you are every time you turn in your tokens, it could be a mechanic along the line of Freddy's alarm clocks, where a specific location is marked out for you (usually on the other side of the map) and you have to reach it in order to make progress on the objective?

That way, the survivor can complete the objective safely if they stay hidden, but that'll take much longer than just sprinting over to the objective (Which makes it much easier for the killer to find you). There'd be a lot more risk/reward assessment and planning that goes into completing the objectives.

But of course, overhauling the main objective is asking a lot from the devs.

  • The only time I've gone out of my way to kill a specific player was when they were running Object of Obsession and used it right at the start of the game. Which, of course, is essentially daring the killer to tunnel you all game. "You wish to die? So be it" was my thought process.

I was more referencing that the gameplay of DBD is literally "loops" as in "running in circles around an object to abuse your smaller collision box". People are going to look at that if they've ever seen it before and go "I came for a serial killer game, but this is just people running in circles!". I know that's what I thought when I first started playing. How would you even advertise it when that's the prevalent "meta" of the game? It'd make the game a laughingstock, not a spectacle.

And baseball is about people hitting a ball, running circles around a diamond painted on the ground, trying to catch the ball after it's been hit, and whoever runs the most circles wins.

Magic: the Gathering is about two people putting down little pieces of paper on a table, and whoever's the best at it wins.

Trust me, anything can become an eSport if somebody wants it enough and has the money to host a tournament.

They can't make a competitive scene because it'd be ridiculous to an outside audience. A bunch of teenagers running a serial killer around piles of junk and dropping rainbow-colored wood on their head isn't the best for E-sports viewing.

Then how did League of Legends become one of the most popular eSports in the world? How did Hearthstone become an international eSport?

Of all the things keeping this game from becoming an eSport, I can assure you that its art style and premise aren't an issue. Now, ratings might become a concern since this is an M-rated game, but even then, there's no shortage of games with realistic blood and over-the-top violence that have a sizable eSports audience.

Imagine if in CS it was 4 v 1, but the 4 didn’t have guns.

Imagine if in OW it was 5 v 1, but the 5 didn’t have any ability to attack the 1.

    Thats dead by daylight.

It’s not competitive. It won’t ever be taken seriously as competitive. It’s a party game.

Competitive games don't have to be symmetrical or involve fighting for them to be competitive. Look at baseball. It's an asymmetrical game with almost no physical contact whatsoever between players, and it's one of the oldest competitive sports leagues in the world.

  • Balancing issues don't exclude a game from tournaments; just look at League of Legends.

And even relatively simple games with heavy random elements like Hearthstone and poker can have deceptively high skill ceilings; it's all about reading your opponent and predicting what they'll do next.

If the devs really wanted to create a competitive scene with Dead by Daylight, they could. They just don't want to. Either because they want to make more balance changes or changes to their ranking system beforehand; or because they don't think it's worth it to spend all the money to organize an official tournament, invite all of the high-ranking players, and create a ruleset that everyone agrees is fair.

I don’t care about skins, but sometimes I will dodge some SWFs lobbies when I see four toolboxes, or more than a key. Not all the time, only when I’m not in the mood, like when I’m pissed in real life for something and just want to relax. Usually I won’t even look what the survivor team looks like.

I avoid SWF teams in general if I'm not in the mood for it. In my experience, games are not only less stressful for me when playing against solo players, but the solo players tend to be less toxic.

  • Killers tunnel because it's a basic principle of predators; always go after the wounded prey first. The unhooked survivor is injured and I already have a general idea of where they are, so why wouldn't I go after them if I'm not already in a chase?

Plus, since the unhooker will probably stay near the unhooked survivor to heal them, I'll have a chance to disrupt multiple survivors at once, and prevent a heal.

So, give me a good reason to stop tunneling, and I'll never tunnel again. Until then, if the situation calls for it, I'm gonna go after the unhooked survivor.

Their logic: You won as killer? You sweaty camper and tunneler!

Pretty much. Even when I don't tunnel at all, I usually get accused of tunneling if I got a 3k or 4k.

It seems like a lot of people just can't handle the idea of losing, so they assume that I had to be "cheating" somehow if I managed to win.

I admit that I sometimes get angry when I lose too, but I don't just make up nonsensical excuses for why I lost. I complain about the instaheals they brought, or SWF, or annoying perks like BT, OOS, DS, Adrenaline, and DH.

Yeah, that's what I am getting from him. I really really disapprove of this kind of attitude directed at the devs from the community. Let them do what they need too.

but you two, that kinda thought I can understand more, cause you just really wanna know what's going on.... other than the really silly thought that they would pull assets away from such a successful asset as DBD that has a ton of people hooked on playing it.

I think most of the people who want to play Dead by Daylight have already bought it. If I had to guess, I'd say that the game's revenue has been steadily declining for some time, and the release of new chapters isn't enough to make up the difference. They seem to be hoping that the Rift and Archives will provide them with a more steady source of income. But even if it works, I doubt that means they'll put more effort into improving upon the game.

"Why waste time and effort trying to create a better game in the hopes that more people will buy, when we can just milk our current playerbase with cosmetics every few months and make loads of money with minimal effort?" Is what I imagine someone would say in the middle of a board meeting.
