More of a combo. 2 killers, 10 survivors split into 2 teams, 7 gens specific to each team (untouchable by the others), no hooks. Survivor goal, beat the other team out of the gate. Killer goal, slaughter and extend the match as long as possible for max points.
- Killers slug everyone. Teammates heal them up to keep max gen progress. Can’t heal survivors on opposing team
- If everyone on a team is slugged (huge points for killers if this happens btw), they all simultaneously pop up injured after 15 seconds.
- Huge maps, like 2 current ones stitched together.
- All members of one team must leave before all members of the other to get max escape points. Oh, and team-specific gates.
- Unique perks and tools for dirty fighting / sabotage between teams.
I read that while having the 'bored' scene from Cabin Pressure running... and now I kinda image one killer nagging the survivors for just how long things take <3

Hardcore mode. No add-ons, perks, SWFs, or offerings allowed. Let's see who's really the best of the best!
Mhnn.... how about a 'rematch' mode with this? Especially for occasions where someone complains that the other side ran OoO/Noed etc.
Like, okay, you think you would have won without them running this or that perk? Meet you outside and we'll settle this.

That's what I think too. I can agree with some of them to a point, he's got very different playstyle if you want to properly counter his power. It requires you to make predictions or deny him LOS, both beiing pretty hard when vsing good DS.
Still, asking them what they don't like and make compromises will only help DBD's health in the long run, so here I am.
True.
And... I main Deathslinger. He's one of the few killers I can out-manoeuvre as survivor, cause I got a decent feeling for when I'll have to dodge to the side or stop and move a step back/do a 90° turn even without looking behind me
I'm by no means good, but I have managed to hold my ground against some green and a red rank (only to each time run straight into them the moment I think I'm safe... )
-
People, learn to adjust to playing against different killers.
All these threads on 'alter this killer cause they have no counterplay' read as if you are saying 'please make all killers the exact same so I don't have to change my M.O. when playing survivor'
(you get the same thing the other way round from killer mains too... what the bloody blazes...)

Sounds work for me on PS4. Also, killers can still hear the grass move.
sound works on PC too, and I only have my in-ear headphones and the general volume down on 40 (19 ingame). can even hear survivors/heartbeat hatch over chatting with friends.
Clicky, have you gotten your hearing checked lately (this is not snark, I've seen people discover they had trouble with their hearing due to things like this)

@Peanits said:
They do it for three reasons:
- Assuming you're not injured or have Iron Will, it forces the killer to guess which way you went, which can give you enough distance to get to the next loop in time by the time they figure out where you went.
- Points.
- Flashlight blind challenges.
Also potentially 4. They try to communicate they have a 'chase me' challenge.

...Every survivor does hex totems. This conversation isn't about dulls.
If I judge by the forum (here and steam) then apparently people don't do them but get upset they were in play

My biggest issue is looping. I cannot loop for the life of me and any time a killer senses that I am a weak link, they'll target me a lot. I thought I'd be much better at 300 hours in but I'm not. Damn this game is rough.
mood.
have you got the chance to practice with friends in custom matches?
Also, if looping doesn't work for you, practice plain evasion. I've gotten pretty good at outmaneuvering nurse and deathslinger, currently getting better at dodging spirit and billy.
-
also, lbr: How many survivors actually DO totems?
There's people in the game who wouldn't do totems even if they'd ALL spawn in the same location and be clearly labeled. and those people would STILL complain bout the killer running ruin/noed/haunted and how that's unfair and has no counter.
-
smash bros. petitioning DISNY they allow fnaf cosplays into the parks (without a trace of sarcasm). hijacking about each and every let's player demanding they play fnaf, no matter how often the person said they are not interested/no comfortable with the idea.
-
some people act as if they'd get physically punished if they say something nice/encouraging in the post-game chat... why?
-
i'm honestly fascinated whenever you, right now, get people that call for adding a 'cooldown' to e.g. Deathslinger, and then hop into the next thread about billy and say how unfair an added cooldown is...
whut?

alternative: let us throw empty items at the killer

killer needs to hook the survivor first.
personally i only use it when I have a challenge open to kill all survivors in a single match, and only then

Had that bug before with plague/deathslinger. apparently the devs are working on it. it happens when you switch killer in the lobby

The irony is that Cata onward is when Blizzard actually started putting out top end content that really kicked peoples asses.
But since the dumb grindy and broken parts were mostly fixed as well, the crowd of "MMO gamers who thought they were something special because they played for 97 hours a week" started getting cranky, and they formed their complaints as claims of things being "dumbed down".
Go figure.
never raided etc. in fact, the continued 'oh lets turn this char evil to have another raid' approach to new content is what drove me away. But enought offtopic now (least anyone wants to continue this in a thread in the OT forum?)

How did this become a WoW discussion lol?
Sorry ^^;
mainly through illustrating how tricky balancing can become for devs, and that going the 'easy' way will get things go wonky-bonky fairly quickly

Well I remember the "golden ages" when I had several macros and several abilites I had to learn how to use. Then they decided all healers have slow heal, fast heal and class heal. Imo it is dumbed down.
I admittedly left during the Cataclysm beta, but friends kept playing and... man, what I heard and saw from them was not a pretty picture

Blizz was losing players and it seemed to me and many other HC players that they just wanted to dumb down the game to make it more accessible. Which they did. Nothing wrong with that when you think about it. But I and many others quit the the game because of it. Challenge was pretty much gone.
DBD has a hard task balancing the game and they have to make decision to balance the game around casuals or the veterans.
i don't think they 'dumbed it down' to make it more accessible. I thnk the term is 'breadcrumbing'? like, when you churn out a lot of mediocre content fast that will be exciting for a few, without any real quality behind it. there's a lot of people that did argue that 'oh but this other game barely has updates, while wow'... while the gameplay suffered...
Personally I've been in wow for the lore, and gave up on it when they really screwed that over (continuously having lore chars 'go crazy' to excuse yet another raiddungeon... gets old fairly quickly. and that was just the tip of the iceberg)
and bhvr is facing the issue of, as you said, balancing between these to groups. and i don't think without overhauling the ranking system and adding new modes that won't be possible.
-
Only through custom matches did I find there are maps I have NEVER seen in a public match so far,... and that there's far too many variants of springwood (i think it was springwood)

WoW was truly one of a kind. I'm glad Blizzard decided to ruin it completely so I don't have to heal people standing in fire anymore...
and here's where it gets tricky:
even before activisopn took over, blizz faced the impossible task of balancing between PvP vs PvE and then raids vs more casual playing. add to that people playing mainly for lore, and it's an impossible task.
the dbd devs face the following issue:
balancing between competitive and more casual players and then sprinkle lore over it.
Let's look at two of the most 'hated' perks:
OoO, a perk easily exploitable, but perfectly in line with its origination character's lore
or NoeD, which from an inuniverse points makes perfect sense, if you see it as the entity telling the killer where to go as last resort.
A player who wants to accumulate as many victories (not bps, not necessarily) as quickly as possible will of course call any perk and mechanic that keeps them from it overpowered, broken etc.
A player who wants to play to relax (or maybe explore maps or something. each their own) might as easily get miffed at perks that increase a matches length.
so, balancing this well is a tricky task. not as impossible as what wow tried, but extremely tricky. That's why i personally advocate that people join the ptb if they can (i can't atm) even if there is 'nothing for them' on there. the best feedback comes from people who have no M.O. for a thing yet.
-
It's the curse of MMOs. But... I've played WoW back in the day, and honestly, dbd's community is harmless compared to what i've seen there...
-
@terumisan said:
If a shapeshifting killer existed that game mode would be really fun
Alternative: all survivors get killer versions and vise versa and you 'slip' into your killer's survivor version till revealed?
-
which perks?
And did you check the whole map or only go by the gens you found?
I noticed I missed a number of gens when intervention and tremors are in play.

@bm33 said:
I don't get why survivors ignore totems. It's easy 1000 BP per dull totem. That's more than you'll get struggling on the hook after the killer downs you with NOED.
competitive thinking. people thing they achieved something if they play/win as many matches as possible in a given time.
I don't get why people do that.
-
could work.
said in another thread, they should also rework the ranking to account for where one's strengths are instead of the 'sum'... like, i'm good at breaking things as killer, but i'm bad at actually getting kills in. i'm still on rank 16 somehow.

yeah. and i mean, even if you play on a platfrom without pre-game chat, just grab a map to signal you're going on totem duty
-
and really, just get a map and cleanse totems...

no, i don't think that's possible.

the fact that some people are certain 2:8 would give an unfair advantage to either side shows how much glorious chaos it would be <3

also, tbh, a fnaf map would be... pretty dull. It'd be another indoor map, and not even be that special in design.

This game is already casual mode lmao we need a ranked mode.
in all seriousness, we need a better ranking system (i think we all agree there)
The max rank difference should be 3, not 6, not go into a new color, and only be based on the killer's rank. if you ask me.
maybe split the ranks into emblem ranks. I mean, i dunno how i got to rank 16 with survivor and killer, because frankly, I'm a mess. I'd prolly have an overall gold or even iridescent emblem from damaging gens as killer or healing people as survivor, but nothing to justify being rank 16.
And I think reworking the ranking system to account more for one's strengths should work out.
-
Honestly, the higher in rank, the more toxic people seem to get. On lower ranks the most toxic ones are those that want to rise quickly, the others are fine and sometimes magnificent goofballs.
I think it's time for a casual mode (basically public custom matches without the possibility to unlock all perks as such). sure you'd still have some toxic folks, but probably not as many

We don't got it boys... yet
If we see his lore on internet, we can see him shooting someone with his weapon but most important, he isn't in prision and he's wearing that thing on his knee.
So:
- I don't believe the vigilante outfit makes any sense since he is the boss from the prision
- He is a genious and made that thing to compensate something that is missing with his leg, probably a shot or just getting old
He could made another one in the entity's realm but there isnt a workplace and if he does, it's the exactly like the one he used to use
And just awakening in the entity's realm he heard screams (i dont remember), start to see people that hated him and bayshore, so he start to look for them again (so no, he didnt start to craft his armor for his leg after being taken by the entity)
The question is, how old is he?
Like, yeah, the outfits that do give info on the leg give him very different hair (darker, and going by his drawn portrait I'd actually think he's not balding in his mainform, but that's just me), but questions is:
Going by the mainlore:
how old was caleb when he went to prison, how old was he when the hellshire gang was formed, and how old was he when the warden betrayed him?
cause there might be plenty of time that he ran afoul of some rival gang or such and WAS left for dead by them with a shattered/shot-to-pieces leg but was found in time and fashioned the brace to be able to walk after he regained strength
-
it's the curse of every multiplayer game. you will always have people like that out to pamper their ego by 'winning' by changing the rules to say 'they cannot lose'.
it's obnoxious as anything, and just watch them pop a vein if you manage to communicate to the killer what they are doing and the killer sides with you and whoops their behind.
-
I got the impression people are more adverse against fnaf in dbd not because of the potential killers, but because of the fandom. cross your heart, the fandom has (had) a very vocal part that rivalled the homestuck fandom in terms of how... invasive (?) they were towards other fandoms etc.
It seems to be more a matter of bad associations in people than actual badness in the franchise.

I mean, there are some people who jokingly dubbed the Entity 'Jolene'

i tried not to have it be that. I just know (as stated) from my own experience with betaing that you do have a lot of people working off of distorted information when they complain.
And truth be told, so far the majority of complains about balance in general struck me very much as people being upset about not getting wins handed to them.

There isn't any reason for me to go on there. If the team set up a checklist for us with even a minor reward afterwards I'd totally do it, but I'd rather just let people who can go in with an idea of what to look for, rather than pad the numbers and feel like I've done absolutely nothing to help.
Do it, seriously. If I learned one thing about betatesting then it's that every input from people not knowing what to do there is as important as that of people knowing what they want to check out.
-
@SCP_FOR_DBD said:
PC players appear to make up a little more than half the playerbase, so the majority basically. Also, the changes are very well laid out so most people can get some semblance of how drastic the changes are with just the numbers.
not what I asked:
How many of those complaining are on the ptb themselves vs how many get their info from streamers, youtubers or plain text with potential misinterpretations
(I don't mean this snarky. I just know from my own betatests for other (much smaller games) that you will always see people misreading the patchnotes)

That would be a good idea. But then you can't have just the heartbeat. You would need to have a whole new system for "visual sounds" for killers and survivors.

But I do like the idea.
it's already on... mobile? I don't know which platform it was just checked through the video. so i'd guess there will already be different indicators for killers and survivors alike?
anyone playing on the platform in question can give some input?
