Not really sexism, just a generic stereotype.
How do we tell you that 'generic stereotypes based on one's gender' is very much the definition of sexism?

I find it funny that if we went by the actual years to determine his age, he'd be over 160 years old.
I do agree with what you said though, his leg was probably shot out by a guy he underestimated. At first I assumed that his leg was like that because in his story it says that he KICKED down a door to go beat his boss's ass and the wardens. After reading everyone else's claims, I don't know what to think but so far I'm sticking with what you said because it makes the most sense to me so far.
I wouldn't put it beyond Caleb to have kicked down the door with his bad leg in his rage, resulting in the hoppling and pain

I suppose a quick answer to that would be each killer is being dealt with in different ways. Those who are tortured would fear being tortured more for saying anything. Those who just enjoy it such as Legion or Jed Olsen wouldn't want to spoil their cushy role. Adiris sees The Entity as a God, so fear would work with her and Leatherface.
Even those who are so powerful they can break The Entities rules such as Michael or Pyramid Head probably don't speak anyway! Michael just kills, and Pyramid Head's ties to Silent Hill probably means it could leave any time it wants to.
I just feel that having the killers able to converse is a troublesome situation regardless. However, if this is indeed a thing The Entity I'd imagine uses multiple tactics tailored for each Killer.
So we might reach the moment when the Entity bites off more than it can chew?
edit: is that a genuine lore-reason we don't get 2:8? cause can you imagine in-universe killers trying to organize who goes after whom and ending up confusing each other because Wraith would be all 'Who is Bayshore?'
edit 2: You know what's most bitter here? Once again Caleb is getting exploited...
-
@Vox_Nocturne said:
If The Entity feeds off any emotion, it perhaps has the ability to know what tactic will draw the most emotion out of the killers. With Philip, Max, Rin and Caleb, the powerful emotions they feel at the injustices they've been witness to has a greater strength than if they were to be tortured. Maybe The Entity realises this through experimenting with different ways for different killers!
This all leads to another question:
if we do assume that killers can interact after trials, how would the entity get around anyone (legion e.g.) who sees the actual survivors spilling the beans?
-
Nice one :3
It'd be cool if the devs would add a slight optic effect to the killers in question so that we can get glimpses (hah!) of what they are seeing in-universe.
Also.... with the Entity having to spent more and more and more energy on ... holding (?) killers like PH or Myers and their worlds, could the day come the vision etc slips?

Can those who are in Spectate, maybe get control of the camera and simply rotate view while we watch Team mates? That sound good to anyone?
101 ways to make swf more broken.
But in all seriousness, swf on discord etc already is a bit of a legal, but annoying exploit, giving someone the chance to look somewhere else than the player when in spectate would be inexcusable unfair

I looked it up and all we know is that he's older than forty. He doesn't look THAT old but I'd say he's probably 45-50, he ages very well ๐
hehhe. Yeah, I mean, from Zari's bio we know he was incarcerated in 1860, so he made that deal with the warden in 1875. I think there's another timeframe given after that, but I forgot where and how much it was. but i think it was ~10 years, bringing us to 1885 or such.
If we assume the 'with age' means around 16 or 18 when Bayshore hired and exploited him, that'd set him at being.... 41-43 or such.
Also, coming back to the 'pallet to the knee' joke someone made: given how the leg brace looks in some of his outfits, I can imagine someone DID leave him for death after emptying a shotgun's cartridge into his knee...
Like, that maybe he overestimated himself and underestimated the guy he was after on his own, and the guy escaped after shooting Caleb's legs to pieces.

Because these SWF #########'s keep bumrushing the hook without healing to rescue their pals, leading to them and me getting downed and hooked far more times than necessary against a Leatherface (I would've just left, but I finally got the chance to unhook someone during EGC, and I've been trying for so long), because I was trying to crawl out the gate to get away from their nonsense and I wasn't recovering because of that. So I get called an "Ungreatfull #########" (great spelling btw, top notch guys) by the boosted af Rank 3 of the group.
BTW I died to EGC, two of them escaped. Gotta love the SWF's that share one braincell between them, they give the rest of the lot a bad name.
Just ranting I guess, but like, why are people so goddamn stupid?
You give them too much credit assuming they have a whole braincell...
But snark aside, I agree with you.
I love my own SWFs, because we usually get each other lost on the map or make up song parodies.

While teleportation is possible, it might be easily exploitable in terms of getting the entire game to crash.
-
Haddonfield has issues for killers and survivors alike.
Hawkins likewise
Midwich has the multiple floors, and I doubt I'm alone having played matches as killer there where I failed to run into any survivor (while they failed to locate the generators)
Similar Bedham.
Meat Plant, likewise.
(I call the above 'Ragequite Roulette' if two or more players burn different offerings for them)
---
With some maps I think it shows they are focused on their respective killers:
The original bunch of maps has a lot of spots for traps and 'stealth' paths
Hag's map is ideal for her traps.
Deathslinger's map has a lot of balconies/jumping points (sniping positions?)
etc.

Why does the argument fall flat when it's a different argument altogether? Methinks you just don't want anyone to disagree with you because you really want different games with DbD characters, like a murder mystery game.
please, don't assume that everyone's like you when it comes to arguments, and kindly admit that you lost this one.

But if you hide out within striking distance to make sure no one really can get unhooked AND focus on just one player, that's tunneling/camping. Very simple difference" personally I dont just sit there watching a hooked survivor. That's the definition of camping. But instead I am (personally as said, I can't speak of others) walking away, and seconds later get the visual and sound alert that someone got unhooked. That gives me reason to go back again and go chase.
That's the teammate fault for unhooking no sooner than the friend was hooked.
What you describe is Camping.
Allow me to reword it:
If you hook a survivor, go to check the remaining gens, and get either:
- the BOOM of the survivor getting unhooked
- You circling back round on your patrol and seeing another survivor moving towards the hook
then there's nothing wrong with heading there and hitting what you can hit.
when you circle around the hook and just hit the survivor who just got unhooked to rehook them asap, that's camping/tunneling.
the other is just bad luck on the survivors' ends because they acted too quickly/ran into you.
-
I think the one change we can agree on:
give survivors a FU gesture for games with Mike, because lbr: it's what's going through all our heads when we turn around and he...just...stands...there...

So.. you're saying as soon as you or someone you unhook Spirit isn't allowed to come back to give chase or chase the unhooked again? And call that Tunneling? Why is a killer of a y type not allowed to come back to a unhook. The game gives them a sound and visual for this very reason ๐ค
The difference between tunneling/camping and not doing that is that you actually DO something else.
No one is objecting to you going around looking for other survivors/damaging gens and racing another survivor to the hook if you spot them going there, or heading back towards the hook to intercept who is running away from it.
But if you hide out within striking distance to make sure no one really can get unhooked AND focus on just one player, that's tunneling/camping. Very simple difference

Unless I understood wrong, it's locked so that you get matched with players appropriate to your skill level on a specific killer, right? It's locked to stop a level 1 Oni from switching to a P3 level 50 Freddy in the lobby while the survivors remain at a lower skill level. While there may be some unfortunate consequences, I don't see how else they could address the issue of being a high rank, but wanting to try a new killer. I'm okay with this change (if it actually works), because I want to try new killers without getting completely destroyed.

The goal was to provide a better argument than "lore" by replacing "lore" with "genre", which does indeed create a better argument. Why would I be trying to equate lore with genre? Those are just two completely different and unrelated concepts.
exactly, yet you tried, that's how I read it.
And if you were not, the argument still falls flat, because it's not what people are arguing. The argue that certain game modes don't fit with the lore. They argue that The Entity would never do a thing (like a 2 vs 8 mode) but don't state why. They argue that there cannot be roleswapped versions of the unlicensed characters, because 'the entity wouldn't do that' or 'it doesn't fit the lore'.
That is their argument. that these things can never happen because it doesn't fit with 'the lore'

Just (re)watch 1999 classic "The Mummy" on Netflix and thought how it will be a perfect idea for a DLC . I let you write the perks, guys..
i just hope that IF we'll get Mummy dlc we'll either get this version or the original one. not the 'dark verse' failure that was... by all means the mummy there was mashup of Nurse, Spirit and Trapper

I never brought up lore as an argument, I brought up game genre. It'd be like adding a racing mode to DbD - it's just a completely separate game.
@Orion said:

You mean "modes"?
Moving on, you can substitute "lore" for "genre". DbD is not a murder mystery game, it's not a BR game (there are a ton of those already, so if that's what you want you can go play them), etc..
I'd say you tried to equal these things right here by stating it can be substituted.
And yeah, a racer wouldn't fit with neither lore nor genry, but a 'the thing' like murder mystery would.
-
@bm33 said:
As someone else said, using lore as excuse is just to give weight to an argument. It's similar to how people say rank doesn't matter in one argument but then make big deal about being in red rank in the next - they use whichever one fits the argument they want to make.
A reason I can see for being against multiple game modes is it increasing the wait times that people already have an issue with. Although one could argue that bringing in other modes could increase player base.
Another reason could be there's already issues with the one game mode we have that people complain they are not fixing fast enough. Adding additional game modes could make issues take longer to be fixed.
Those are good reasons. And they make me wonder why people can't just use them instead.

So GMod Murder, a completely different game, just like I said.
And how would that not fit into the world of DbD?
The main topic of the thread is that people beat these ideas down because they 'don't fit the lore' (aka the whole deal about an eldritch being feasting on humans' emotions). And so far all you say 'it's not dbd'. That isn't really for *you* to decide, you're not a dev.

I am saying that Dead by Daylight does not fall under the "murder mystery" category. That's what I wrote, is it not?
we should maybe start from scratch here again: How do you define 'murder mystery' in this regard.
I was thinking in the lines of the aforementioned the thing, that, as per dbd, it'd be kind of a regular match/new objective match where you don't know who the killer is while they try to pick survivors off one by one.
-

As far as I know, there's no such word as "modi" in English, and the Latin modus is only used for modus operandi (MO). Nobody uses modus to say "mode" in regular conversation when the word "mode" already exists.
We're not talking about "The Thing", we're talking about Dead by Daylight. Dead by Daylight is not a murder mystery game and would not benefit from having a murder mystery mode tacked on to the base game, the same way it wouldn't benefit from a battle royale mode or racing mode. Those wouldn't be different modes of play, they'd be completely different games in and of themselves.
There's a big difference between, say, a racing game adding a mode with "goofy" mechanics (think Mario Kart in NFS) and a horror survival game adding a mode where you need to solve a murder mystery. The former is still a racing game, just with different mechanics. The latter isn't a horror survival game any more, it's a detective game.
So you are saying 'the thing' does not fall under the 'survival horror' category?
-
- Remind yourself that these people pretty much 'get off' on being jerks in a videogame, aka they are quite, well, pathetic. They act as if their whole worth as a person is defined by how fast they can rush through a match/how much of a piece of [nope] they are towards other players.
- If that's your cup of tea, there's always allowing yourself to 'get into your characters head' for a moment and imagine how they might react to it. As silly as it may sound, but I found it does wonders for me when I play Deathslinger and just for a moment imagine him wandering off to the side to have a smoke when the survivors are a pack of brats.

This map is more about being stealthy than looping. When is everyone going to realize tge devs build these maps with different playstyles in mind? If every map was autohaven this game would have died long ago
It's again the old 'people thinly masking their aversion against adjusting their play to a map/killer as genuine balancing concerns'

Yes you do because pallets are our main defense. Also killers are faster. Swamp is a terrible map that promotes a stealth like gameplay which is boring for both sides but if you really insist because that's what I feel you're implying.
I hope you never complain when the killer uses pallets to their advantage

agree to disagree, hiding it out is waiting for the killer to leave before you do something, immersion is doing nothing even when the killer is on the other side of the map to you
I'd argue that 'immersion' in the word's meaning is in a way closer to 'do something to avoid the killer and then get on with things' than 'hiding it out'
-
Been thinking about this.
How about this:
Instead of hooks, you can mori survivors if 1. you find your weapon and 2. there's no other survivors around.
Throughout the game the players search chests to find tools to find the keys, while the killer can also find their weapon in those chests (which will reveal them to the other players until hidden again)
-
Could we maybe agree on calling it 'hiding it out'?
-
also that map is one big jungle gym. if you really need pallets to outrun a killer...

Moving on, you can substitute "lore" for "genre". DbD is not a murder mystery game, it's not a BR game (there are a ton of those already, so if that's what you want you can go play them), etc..
both can work in language
And... it's only because there's no modus for it. People argue that these modi don't fit with the lore . The genre is actually irrelevant. DbD is a horror genre game. There's horror genre puzzle games. Horror Genre Rpgs. Horror genre shooters. Lore isn't genre. If you can make a modus fit within the franchises lore, you can have it fit. and that is what people say is impossible because 'no other modus can work with the lore'
When you say to swap lore for genre, and then say 'it's not a murder mystery game'... then tell me, what is 'The Thing' other than a quite bloody murder mystery?
-
A 'you gotta be kidding me' gesture for all those moments when you roll your eyes irl at whatever the survivors are even trying.
maybe separate nodding and head-shaking gestures
-
In short you encountered someone who is making excuses for not knowing how to play killer.
As for ingame chats: I think it's alright that there isn't one as such, my personal vote would be on more gestures for both, survivors and killers to communicate (i mean, after all, there are a lot of good players out there who'd like to tell a killer they need to drop some pallets etc it's one thing to be unfair and give the killer an advantage, and another to 'work' with them to get a challenge in)
-
Being one of the people having a poll up about new modi, I agree.
What bothers me how many people have said that certain ideas for new modi 'do not fit with dbd' because... they are not like the current mode while being perfectly within the lore-boundaries.
Example? Someone tinkered out a 'Murder Mystery' mode, which has a lot of potential, but people say 'it wouldn't fit'.
People also say a '2 vs 8' mode would be unfair because it'd be clearly in favor of [insert side they probably don't main here]...
I've seen ideas for a 'race a labyrinth against another team' mode (either survivors vs survivors or survs vs killers)
sure some modi would 'technically' call for something akin to a whole new game, but so far i haven't seen an idea that would not have been within in the lore (unless the poster was being sarcastic towards any and all new ideas)
-
Other:
I'd honestly, honestly love for a roleswap thing for killers and survivors. granted that'd give us how many new killer/surv at once?
-

Do you mean is there some form of benevolent being that is sneakily trying to aid survivors in escaping the killers and the realm of the Entity? Would it be a person, or another form of being like the entity?
question would be: if it exists, is it benevolent. It has to have power to create things that are beneficial to the survivors (hatch etc), but that won't mean it's on the side of the survivors
-
We need a 'You gotta be kidding' emote for the killers.

Something simple... How about a mode with more than 4 perks? 5, 6, 8, 10, whatever. I'm curious how interesting and full sweaty a game could be if the survivors and killer could have more than 4 perks. Might not play out well in real life, but I'm curious none the less.
Speaking of it (sorta) there's an interesting psychological effect (forgot what it's called) that (as per dbd) would likely introduce a bit more variety in the perks used if the player could 'save' perk builds to switch through quickly.
-
I made a rule out of it:
Playing Killer:
If one (or more) person dcs on their first hit/hook if not earlier, I'm going 'bloody shepherd' mode and help the other survivors win.
Likewise if the survivors are just toxic, I'll just stand to the side and have a smoke. You're not getting any chase/blind/pallet BPs out of me, darlings.
Playing Survivor:
I'll see what the killer is doing, but usually stay around till the match is finished to throw shade as the dcers
-
Also:
glhf = Good Luck Have Fun, usually used as a 'good bye' when leaving the aftermath lobby
can be used as a more dbd appropriate 'gfhl' Good Fun, Have Luck, too
-
The whole autowreckers haven needs to have that big mountain of cars broken up... it's a pain to survivors and killers lbr
-
Lately started to wonder if on DbD it should be 'gfhl' instead of 'glhf'
-
Maybe make them flames in either form?
