maybe give all killers a small ability to deal with vault spots. the only one to really have one is plague (maybe trapper, but he's slower and more limited at that than plague), while it doesn't prevent it, it still is something to make survivors think twice...

I don't think there's many at the top level though. Objectively speaking with good skill Nurse is still probably the strongest killer in the game. There would be no better ego inflating than playing what's considered one of the hardest killers to master and 4k every game, but they don't do that. A lot of the best killers straight up avoid playing nurse because it's boring. You master her and even after her nerfs you're still the god of DBD. That or maybe streamers don't want to show a string of fail blinks to their audience. Probably the former over the latter though.
However billy is that perfect level. Pulling over consistent curve hits requires a lot of experience, knowledge, and skill with the sensitivity to pull off. Even with 1 hit downs he can still lose, and even with a good billy good survivors can still beat him.
Limiting that just seems dumb.
That's the funny thing: People don't want a challenge to boost their ego. they want easy wins and pretend they are good. Just look at the real world, how many don't even try to do well, but instead do so much to 'change the rules to say they never lose'...
Because, you are absolutely right, there's a lot of satisfaction playing well with a hard killer, but people only want to show of how 'ez' it is... just look at how often killers and survivors will actually go 'ez' or similar if there's a massive rankgap.
It's exactly that kind of people that are the problem.
Unfortunately you find them EVERYWHERE. My personal other main game fandom is one for digital adventure books, and even there you have a TON of people complaining how they can't 'master' the story at first try.
People are weird.
Peaceoffering: Let's agree to see how it plays out on the live servers and see what can be finetuned

Automatically assuming it's about inflating their ego is bad mistake. If we're walking into that territory then we could easily start talking about SWF and whether or not what they're doing is "playing for fun with friends" or them bullying the killers for kicks and laughs then playing the "fun" victim card when they get countered by a try hard killer.
It's a subjective matter. In this scenario I think the point is that is drastically restricts his mind gaming and position play that was central to a skill billy pulling off well made flicks, curves, ect. If the goal was to really only punish unskilled players and misuse of the chainsaw then we could've easily added an increased recovery time mechanic and not just a straight limiting factor to him. I actually made a suggestion post about that, though of course those small posts are a dime a dozen so it didn't make any impact. The idea was simply have billy's recovery from missed swings and bumps increase with his heat instead of being a straight cooldown that stops the saw.
Oh, I'm absolutely against survivors measuring the level of 'fun' by how frustrating and obnoxious they are. swf is fine, but if you do it to be a douchecanoe to feel powerful, it's not.
and as stated: balancing a game as this is extremely hard, BECAUSE you have a lot of people who play for their ego and who are usually the loudest.

At least your attempting to keep Billy's power intact..however..his addons are also very very very bad...and at base Billy was still struggling at the higher tiers of play..his powers base stats arnt like freddys where addons dont have to make a difference ..so I ask..are the addons getting overhauled as well?
Maybe/probably, once it can be assessed how things play out on live servers.
It's always a crux with changes: ptb have usually a small number of players, oftentimes (as with this) BNFs who already have massive experience in the game, which skews the input.

You'd be correct, and it's exactly as I said. His exact quote is "Billy will not be bad, but it will remove the fun from playing him."
which brings us to EXACTLY the core problem:
How do we define 'fun' in this situation.
Because often people in cases like this seem to mean fun = how quickly they can win and pet their ego

most nurse players are bad, being a red rank killer doesn't mean youre good at every killer. if she could perfect blink every blink then you all would have died and lost.
Honestly?
I thnk the thing IS that a lot of people play certain killers cause they saw BNFs play those, and then they get upset when they are not an iwin button.
It's a curse of developing any game: you'll ALWAYS have people that are upset at not being 100% catered to. Said it elsewhere, it's a sociopsychological problem.

Funny now questions is where was BHVR when we complained about nurse "rework"
have you considered they learned from THAT and are trying to get better?
you know, the whole 'learning from mistakes and improving' thing humans do? they things society seems to hate so much, always expecting everyone to do flawlessly from the start?

My point, in short simple words, is that even a person who is ridiculously BHVR sided to the point where nothing bothers him still finds these changes bad. The guy literally has nothing else he seems to complain about, and he just casually decides to stomp on whatever killer he feels like regardless of what the community at large thinks about that killers viability. The dude is a pig main with actually 0 f***s given.
If even this person is disagreeing with the changes then you've clearly gone wrong somewhere.
question is this:
how many new and low rank players ARE on the ptb and have decided the changes are bad after testing?
I'm not advocating for any handholding and iwin buttons for new/less experienced players, but when you only listen to people, regardless whom, who sound as if they are demanding that the game may only be playable if you are on their skill level... cause that's what it sounds like to me in a lot of threads:
that people are upset because the devs are patching away their ability to show off
-
Also, judging from other MMOs we can start making bets on how long it'll take for people to call for a change to billy ramping the ptb changes up to 11...
I say 2 weeks after patch release

The best type of events for a game like this are honestly:
- seasonal events
- anniversary events (even though the Entity now gave away it likes cake)
- 'introduction' events for new modi if that ever happens, to give people a boost to try them out.
-
i think what OP is snarking about is that there's people who will complain about everything that throw them off their winning streaks and have them readjust?

i don't think they do that for one perk and if they do they shouldn't be play if they have to cheat to win.
you'd be surprised what some people do if their ego's at stake...
-

It needs a radius added to it. Like, it only works within 25m or something, and only 1 person can bring it. This is the most BS, exploited perk by SWFs. It's literally a cheat code that behavior allows...
radius or have it only activate after 5 seconds or so.

Oh my bad, I guess that should've been a more general statement rather than on just you.
but really, people saying ooo is fine as it is and defend it with 'just play the match you get' are usually the first ones to complain about 'broken' perks when they lose.

It reminds me of survivors who literally belittle the killer in chat if he didn’t give the last survivor the hatch. My reply is always the same, “oh if you had opened the gates which 1 of you was letting me have 1 kill?” Hint they answer is no one.
another classic when you play as deathslinger is people complaining you pulled them out of the gate. Alright, so why did they unhook someone a second before death? that's equally 'unfair'

You have to activate the trap for her to be able to teleport to it which can be avoided by crouching or using a flashlight, you do that and she cant use her power to protect the hook, there is not much counterplay you can do against a M&A Deathslinger at 17 meters.
The other Killers? I have not mentioned them so I dont see why are you bringing them to my argument.
nope. there's a build that let's you teleport whenever. need to check again what it was

It hasn't been that long since his release, and the hype for him died quite fast so it's entirely possible.
also, thinking about this logically:
He's a quite new killer, so the camping will rather come from killer mains that would and do camp to begin with, regardless whom they are playing. Like, when playing survivor, I haven't yet seen a PH who didn't camp. but it's not on the killer, it's on the player.
-
@Dr_Loomis said:
I think they should just take it out, personally.
that honestly would be the most favorable solution, but as some people would get extremely cranky either way, let them decide between hell or high water.
like, it IS a perk that fits the character's lore, but as it is, it is too easily exploitable.
-
@HectorBrando said:

Because she cant teleport from all the map "only" 40 meters and there is certain counterplay to their traps, you can destroy them with flashlights or crouch to avoid trigger them, especially with Urban Evasion.
A hidden Deathslinger with M&A can stay on range of shooting the unhooker while leaving his Terror Radius out of range, also there isnt much Survivors can do when the harpoon is flying towards them during the unhook animation.
there also isn't much survivors can do when hag teleports to them during the unhooking animation, or when nurse blinks through through the floor during it or... I don't see your point.
As stated, it all sounds like a different flavor of people complaining their victory isn't handed to them upon matchstart (something you get from everyone, survivors and killers alike)

In no way is Deathslinger used to camp more than Hag. The biggest campers in the game are Hag, Leatherface and Wraith. Especially on console in red ranks. I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen a Gunslinger camp but I rarely see him unless I’m the one playing as him. The example in the OP is not a good example. As he has two people hooked next to each other and an advantage point to find out where the last person is. I don’t think what he’s doing is camping. He’s actually being strategic.
reworded my post. I wasn't trying to state Caleb IS more camping than any teleport killers, but to say 'how do you get the idea he'd be'
I main Caleb, and I must agree with one of the other posts that a lot of survivors camp out near the hook. so of course I'll either look for them and hit them upon unhook, or am quick to be back at the hook when they get there because they didn't really give me the chance to get any further away.
-
@HectorBrando said:
You really have to give them kudos from devising a Killer campier than Hag.
Hag has a build that allows teleporting from all across the map without the traps triggering visually iirc... (i think such builds exist for all teleport killers) how do you get the idea Deathslinger's more camping than any 'the whole map's my campground' killers?
-
All in all, we can agree this is another instance of someone being cranky at their opposition for not handing them the victory with cream and cherry on top.

Yeah it’s not very fun to face. Unfortunately if they don’t do it they’re asking to lose against any survivor team with a brain since he’s so slow. Split up and rush gens and he can’t do #########.
I kinda wonder why not more Deathslinger mains run what I like to call 'cranky handyman' build (intervention, tremors, switch and whispers) (granted, I'm not good at playing, but I actually got more positive comments even from high ranks than negative)
-
Gotta check the news later, but I really hope the new rating system takes into account HOW you got to a certain rank. Cause... I got to my ranks with sheer ridiculous luck and a lot of gen damaging on killer. Nothing that I could use against anyone above rank 15, but as steady drops hollow the stone...
-
Gravity falls might be a better idea for a cosmetics pack theme
-
All potential new modes (looking through the forum and other pages people wonder about a 2 vs 6/8 mode for example, and I've seen people wonder if escape room like puzzles could work, as odd as it sounds) need to be planned out and tested.
Maybe the devs should make an official poll which new game modes people really really would want if any?
-
not said after the match, but done in match:
Midwich map, I start alone and naturally get lost before I even reach the corridor. Run straight into the Killer (huntress). I do nothing, awaiting a hit and hook. instead she seemed to realize I was utterly lost, showed me the next gen, let me repair it, and guided me to the open exit once the others opened it ;_; Mama Anna

I don't see anything that says crossplay. I know what you mean, but it's not appearing for me.
it's in the main settings, not directly at the bottom. i tihnk it's one or two rows above the player ID
-
One codeable thing would be to automatically give the killer a mori for every person that runs it
-
There's hints in the cosmetics lore that he was a shaman or something (not too wellversed in african cultures and mythology) and that the entity snatched him when he was doing... something?
-
Imagine they'd implement something that gives the killer a mori mid-game... like 'okay, survivors, you've behaved so badly, you angered the entity. you're screwed.
-
Now to the question what the moris would look like...
killer!claudette would probably either use a massive venus flytrap... probably leaving the survivor's head free with flowers sprouting out of their mouth once done...
-
@Dzeikor said:
Not every killer brings a mori,or a mori perk, but every single match, survivors can escape through hatch even without a key,let that sink in.
Not if the killer closes it first. I know several people who look for the hatch as killer to BE able to close it in time (if the survivors been little brats)
And: mori's let you kill a survivor once they've been hooked once (usually) and without a key the hatch only open when there's only one survivor left.
-
it's unhealthy competitiveness. It's a sociopsychological issue you have in... basically every game where you can play with/against others. Heavens, even games like Animal Crossing have this type of player who will get absurdly vicious and vitriolic if they don't get a certain item/etc asap, if they don't get their island rating up to 5 in record time etc.
in dbd they'll blame you (unless you been a bit of a camping douche) unrightfully for not advancing up the ranks in record time.
people need to learn to chill.
-
some people are musing about a Casual Mode (would honestly be nice) or more quests/dailies. think that'd help?
-
On a related note: could it be that some killers decide to be genuinely helpful on certain maps (like midwich?) because the maps are just a pain in the behind...
-
Deathslinger (survivor): The main turning point for Caleb was accepting the warden's offer. Had he not, he might have easily used his engineering skills to break himself and some inmates out of prison and become an outlaw, some kind of more brutal robin hood in his quest to undo Bayshore.
Kate (killer): Kate could have easily shrugged off trying to reconnect with her muse, having only eyes for the money and the fame, ultimately becoming a siren like killer when the entity gets hold of her.
Plague: Her turning point might have been when she found that secret room (this always reads as if the entity cursed her there?). Maybe had she ignored it and done good for the sake of doing it instead of falling prey to basking in admiration she might have been well, becoming a capable healer
Claudette: Her thing is botany and maybe aggravation from people mistreating/belittling her for various reasons ultimately had her snap, the entity granting her control over plants she now uses to hinder and trap survivors.
-
alternatively: more emotes and one that maybe has the characters yell 'run' or 'scatter' etc audible in a certain radius?
on that note: maybe one day add emotes for the killers, for the occasions where you e.g. want someone to drop pallets on you (for a challenge)
-
What wisdom said.
Some people feel the urge to turn everything into an unhealthy competition, turn everything into a means to 'show' others they are the biggest, best, most awesome whatever, and they get cranky when someone comes along not behaving in a way beneficial to them.
As for a more in-universe approach, technically speaking killers are supposed to 'play' with their prey to get the survivors' hope up...
-
