It's why Deathslinger is such a blessing. There's a sweet sweet feeling when pulling a tbagging surv back from safety juuuuuuuust when the countdown runs out <3

No, he makes torture devices for the warden. There is nothing innocent about them. When his father is around, he makes wholesome inventions, but by himself... he was already on a dark path.
He also has a problem of being taken advantage of. It is a theme throughout his story, and it is even more ironic that he is being taken advantage of here. He is paid (in iridescent coins), sure, but what can he buy? Not much, I imagine.
when i say 'innocence' i don't mean it in the literal sense. Don't confuse that. It's... are you familiar with the 'nightmare fuel station attendant' trope?
and yeah, it's bitter. and i worry for the entity should caleb ever realize
-
Ormond has the same trouble as many maps:
They seem to be there mostly to showcase their related killer's powers:
Ormond is optimized for legion, haddon for mike, glenvale for caleb etc.
but balancing this is neigh impossible, as the killers are so varied in their strengths.

I think it makes more sense for those with glowing eyes (besides Doc) to just have hatred as their primary motivator, more than anything else.
Billy, I don't think, is smart enough to know why he was hurt, and have a reason to actually hurt them. He just hurts others because he knows nothing else.
Wraith: He hated himself.
Spirit: she cursed vengeance, but she was just more furious of everything in general, and, on top of that, it seems to have been an ancestral thing, at least based off her archive lore... and the Awakened Origin set also seems to indicate that as well.
Caleb: He was a bounty hunter/engineer with a penchant for causing pain.
Until there are details to back up that theory, such as some lore from Rins perspective, we will never know what they see.
the 'funny' thing about caleb here is that there's a bizarre innocence to his contraptions when they are meant to cause pain. Like, sure, with the torture device for the boys who bullied him, it was on purpose, but there's an odd tone with the stuff he made for the warden. it's a bit like there's a disconnect between the why and what. I'm not saying he completely lacks empathy or compassion, but there's a... detachment... and not even in a negative sense O_ó
-
Cause these people have no skills irl so they 'got to get their fix' online.
It's a joy to behold them pop a vein when they go 'ez' or start insulting the other side and you can throw lines like
'you died' at them. Or 'well we didn't see you try to do anything but look for the hatch' or in general be able to remind the whole chat of their shortcomings :D
-
one way to make things 'fairer' at leats to soloQ would maybe be more emotes to use instead of just Pointing and Follow. Maybe add nodding and headshake (or thumbs up and crossed arms) for yes and no.
-
Deathslinger. Aesthetics and backstory. Also sometimes you want to just shoot things, so better do that digitally.
Plague. She's a mood.
-
out of about 50 days today as surv I had... 1 decent killer. One.
-
I'm talking about games where the survivors hold it hostage for (nope) and giggles. A second killer would be a 'punishment' for being obnoxious, and the blocked hatch would deprive them of a way to weasel out.
aka 'you made this bed, now die in it'
-
The matchmaking needs some time to evaluate how good you are with one killer or another.
-
boops
I play both sides rather evenly, and yeah, a good killer brings more joy to the game than good teammates tbh. (best scenario is good killer + good teammates)

While doing some things related to Deathslinger's bio (writing it down on paper because... yeah I really don't have a reason), I got curious about something.
"Next, he made a steam-powered tunneling drill."
In DBD's world (or one of its worlds), Caleb "the Deathslinger" Quinn was the inventor of the Steam Drill. From what I can tell, over 100 different patents for steam drills were created between 1850 and 1875. Assuming Caleb's world's history closely mirrors ours, and knowing he invented the first steam drill, we know he created it before this time, possibly late 1849-early 1850. If we use your metric for his age when Bayshore hired him (16-18, which could work based on his time period), and he created the steam drill in the same year, he would be 26-28 when he finally confronted Bayshore.
After that, he spent fifteen years in Hellshire Penitentiary before the warden worked out a deal with him. By this time, he would be 41-43. He hunts down outlaws with the Hellshire Gang for the next six years before learning he had been sold out and taking his revenge around the age of 47-49 (again, based on your age metric, possibly older).
Sounds good.
Though I would maybe go about ~5 years lower, because I don't think Bayshore would wait that long to sell off the inventions as his own, even though it'd then take a bit till there'd be functioning machines AND caleb would hear about it. but I still think 10 years till that is a bit long. (I mean, look at what people like Bayshore are doing right now IRL...)

I play on low res and personally never had trouble spotting keys in the lobby.

IIRC the story says it's a hallucination of her dead father. She closes her eyes to get rid of the image, and when she opens them again she's in the Entity's realm.

Honestly, I could see Claudette being some sort of killer that involves plants. Like she can place down plants that when triggered cause some serious harm, whether nasty status effects or injuring, with her perks being aimed at really messing people who are healing or otherwise being altruistic (maybe one of her perks lets her coat her hooks with some rancid plants that make them broken or something?). For her appearance I imagine her basically infested with all sorts of vines and thorns coated in a black tar-like liquid, like how abandoned houses get reclaimed by nature.
it could be some mixture of plague and trapper, like that surv get poisoned when stepping on a blossomtrap.
Mori would probably evolve a venus flytrap or chestbuster-flowers.

And how would the current roster of killers be as survivors?
The Raven King - Jake Park
Weapon:
Twisted Talon
Human fingers and nails warped into a set of ferocious talons
(short lunge range, short general attack)
Power:
Murder of Crows
Press the power button to call forth crows to attack survivors nearby
Perks:
Unkindness of Ravens
Nearby crows are not startled by your presence, but are ever more vigilant towards survivors. When you are within a 20/24/28 meter radius, survivors sneaking past them will startle them all the same.
Tiding of Magpies
You can teleport to startled crows if you are within a 18/20/24 meter radius.
Parliament of Owls
When standing still for 10/5/3 seconds your field of vision increases by 45% until you move again.

Caleb/Claudette, and I have no idea where that comes from...

3) Why would killers choose weaker killers anyway? Also with the current ranking? Is there still diversity? Yes. People pick killers they want to play anyway, although other killers are stronger, I don't see your point why this would change. Not everybody thinks like you. Actually I see more people switching from their main to less played killers, because they don't need to learn their power against ultra sweat SWF like you have to currently
3) Dailys, trying out stuff?
-
I'd be much in favour of skillchecks on second hook cause of a hand injury that very much keeps me from struggling the 'regular' way
-
let's break this down by comparing her with Wraith:
Both need a moment when going invisible.
Wraith can see survivors, but has an indicator where he is and needs to uncloak which is announced and comes with a moment in which he can't attack. (wraith mains, please correct me whether or not there are add ons that do away with that interim between uncloaking and being able to attack)
Spirit can not see survivors, but can attack directly after 'uncloaking' with no waiting period. There is an accoustic cue to her being nearby, but it's IMHO not as distinguishable as Wraith's bell.
On paper these Killers are balanced, but in practice Spirit is easier exploitable.
The biggest issue with both here is 'phase camping' aka going invis near a hooked survivor. With Wraith, due to the uncloaking it's less exploitable, but with spirit there's some vile-spiritedness (hah!) throughout all ranks, that usually goes like this: spirit hooks a survivor and phases, flitting around the hook, and dipping behind an obstacle if the phasing runs out. rin-se (hah!) and repeat until they hear the unhooking sound and strike. Seen it often enough and know from higehr ranks that they experience that all too commonly.
I don't know how to address the 'can't hear her coming' part of the issue aside from 'make the sound more stand out against the regular sounds' (not to the degree of turning her into a copy of wraith in that regard), and the phase-camping could be addressed by having her not be able to use/auto-unphase when within a certain proximity of an occupied hook (iirc PH can't make trenches directly around the hook)
-
You pat them on the head, then smack them.
-
The matchmaking is currently a mess.
Am I right that you are on xbox? If yes, you lately got the new matchmaking system, which means it needs to gather some data first on how well you are playing on average with a surv or killer (yeah, I know it's bound to be a pain in the behind like this) before the better matchmaking can kick in.
IIRC ranks as such will be removed as a whole sooner or later, once the new system has been smoothed out. but for that to happen people ought to keep playing.
I hope you'll get more enjoyable matches in the future. (I'm on pc, and as of now it's a bit of a 3:2 ratio of frustration vs delight, so not that bad. I played other games where that ratio was at 7:2)

Spirit is probably the killer with the smallest counterplay, due to her powers being easily exploitable (see the aforementioned 'phase-camping')

They counterplay against all those killers is based on guessing. But chases from the killer side are solely based in guessing. A mindgame is a guess after all. A blink from nurse is a guess. A long range hatchet from huntress is a guess. A chainsaw sprint of Billy is a guess.
So why shouldn't survivors guess a bit too?
A lot of (read: basically all) threads about how there's no counterplay to X boild down to people being upset they have to change their MO depending on which killer they face.

I was under the impression that Vigo created the hatch, once he found out how to utilise the auric cells the world was made of. However, the gens and gates could hold on to the idea of another creature asserting itself. Is this other "thing" something of a protector?
It could be a protector, it could be something that wants to destroy the Entity that way to take over.

Looking behind you is piss easy but I can respect your opinion but you havent provided me counterplay to none.
you say that's easy, I say countering PH and Deathslinger is easy. I wonder how it can be that I perceive one thing as easy while you don't... mhnnn
-
Lery's, Game, Haddonfield, Midwich, Hawkins, Bedham. Having a full swf with these is known as 'ragequit roulette'
-
Most of what you describe is semi-balanced counterplay. Everything more would make it skew it very much in favor of the survivors.
With Spirit, though, the main issue I noticed (personally) is that a lot of people 'phase-camp'. And yes, Spirit on paper has a harder time locating survivors than wraith, but in practice it's just as easy (I mean, even I can get my hits in and I'm usually horrible at that) as for other killers.
I think in general one thing to change would be making looking behind you easier, maybe through a keybind.
Spirit needs some tweaking to disable phase-camping, which I dare say would make her unattractive to a lot of high ranks for a start
-
Is it just me or do I very very rarely see threads about what 'broken' that are constructive?
Like, it's always 'boycott it so they fix x' but never 'here's why x is objectively broken and should be fixed'
-

That's an odd one. Also, especially since The Entity chose to create generators for the survivors, it could go further back, but even then there would be a point when survivors may not know how to use it. Why The Entity chooses light - a source that weakens it - as part of the game.
There are so many questions, should we explore deep enough!
I'm standing with the theory that while the entity gets the survivors, things like gens, hatch etc are coming from a different eldritch being, that Ben and Vigo are hitherto unaware off, and thus we don't know. and maybe there was a 'victory' on the other beings side that limits the timeframe from which the entity can plug survivors?
also on the maintopic here: Here's a nice song for the killers then:
https://youtu.be/5azy3vW85kE -
It's a socio-psychological thing. (this is a serious answer, as much as it doesn't look like it)
-
@Vox_Nocturne said:

I think the only trouble with this idea of killers becoming harder to control chronologically in Michael Myers. He came in early on in the game's life and he kills regardless of The Entity's will. I also believe there's a Huntress perk that blocks out the red hue where she looks, hence "blinding" The Entity.
This Entity is a powerful being, but in no way is this creature currently a godlike thing. It's almost as if it's in an infantile stage, maturing as it envelopes more killers and survivors. However, as with any living thing, it makes mistakes. It struggles. I'd say, despite its strength, it's actually a weak organism in comparison to what it could be.
So, drifting off-topic slightly, if this is a youngster, where is/are its parent/parents?
another question:
Why are there no survivor in the 'current' roster from before the 1950s?
-
@Justalittlepeeck said:

Pennywise is far, far weaker than the Entity. Their abilities could seem similar, but they are certainly on different levels.
pennywise's true form was described as 'akin to a spider'.... we might very well argue pennywise is a direct avatar of the entity, from a timeframe when it had not roster of killers and survivors, and thus had to go out hunting by itself, and being significantly weaker.

Well, we don't entirely know that. The devs have stated that there are killers in the trials that we haven't seen before but others have. Meaning the same for survivors. Let's take a moment to look at the timeline. Plague is the oldest from Babylon, and then Huntress confirmed WW1, so approximately 1917 (when Germany invaded Russia during that war, it was 1914, we don't know for sure where she's taken from. Safe bet is 1914-1917). This is where we can't really confirm many years of being taken. Clown has a set year, Doc does as well, with the newest being either Spirit or Legion in 1996 (i think that's the date on the photo for the graduating class, that or '98).
So while interesting offer on killers being added into the trials as we're seeing, while entirely possible, I do not think that is the case. But it does bring in killers that it either has trouble controlling or let it do whatever it wants. Examples are Michael, Pyramid Head, maybe even Demo.
yes. what I meant was that they are added 'chronologically' within the entity's realm, so not necessarily in the way we perceive it.
also: if we assume the number of 'slots' for tomes in the archives is any indicator for how much lore framework exists (meaning a framework licensed killers and their dbd-lore can be woven into) it's too many slots for a story in which there's never a moment when the entity's control falters/slips.
though what that might mean for killers and survivors is something for its own thread.
-
He's worked a lot of office jobs, right? Carpal Tunnel Syndrom. I feel his pain.
-
If we do assume for a moment the order Killers 'appear' is chronological for the Entity's realm. Which means it only recently brought in the killers and arenas it has trouble controlling.
-
Normally it should be
